Chris Nichols, 68, of Burlington, died Sunday, September 4, 2022, at the Iowa City VA Medical Center in Iowa City.

Born October 24, 1953, in Oskaloosa, Ia., he was the son of Dean Nichols and Josephine Hamilton Fageol.&nbsp;

He received his bachelor of art degree from Central University, majoring in Physics and receiving minors in Chemistry and Mathematics.

He was a U.S. Marines Veteran, serving from 1977 to 1983. He was also a U.S. Navy veteran, serving from 1987 to 1996.

Chris worked in aerospace engineering and research and served a combined 16 years in the United States Navy and Marine Corps.

Chris was a member of the Naval Reserve Association, Marine Corps League- Hamilton Walters Detachment, International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE), American Institute of Physics (SPS), Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, American Chemical Society, U.S. Naval Institute, Naval Helicopter Association, Sons of the American Revolution, and CircleK; a college student affiliate of the Kiwanis. He enjoyed being outside playing tennis, going on runs, skiing, swimming, camping, hiking, bicycling, and most other outdoor activities. Chris enjoyed model building, woodworking, and refurbishing antiques. He especially loved playing guitar and flying.&nbsp;

Survivors include his mother, Josephine Fageol; daughter, Jennifer A. (Kevin) Talley of Burlington; son, Robert C. Nichols of Mt Pleasant; four siblings, Mary (Tom) Bowen of Yarmouth, Jim Fageol of Burlington, Gigi (Tony) Robertson of Burlington, and Kelly Fageol of Burlington.

He was preceded in death by his father and uncle Jim Nichols.

Visitation will be from noon to 7 p.m. with the family to receive friends from&nbsp;5 to 7 p.m. Friday, September 16, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.

The funeral service for Mr. Nichols will be 10 a.m. Saturday, September 17, at Christ Episcopal Church with Father Carl Mann officiating.&nbsp;

The graveside Service will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, September 17, in Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa.&nbsp;

Chris Devon Downs, 38, of Burlington, died Monday, September 5, 2022, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born January 1, 1984, in Burlington, Ia., he was the son of Carlos and Karen Greenup Downs.&nbsp;&nbsp;

He attended Burlington High School. While in school, he was involved in many sports. He broke a record for fastest in Track.

Chris enjoyed sports, especially basketball, and racing his friends for fun. He and his brother, David started making music together and would write songs about their childhoods and growing up in Woodlawn. He was interested in shoes and fashion and looking "super fly". Chris had many friends and enjoyed spending time with them. He loved to make people laugh and when he was with his friend Ruppert, they were like Mike and Martin from Bad Boys. The most important thing to Chris was his family and spending time with them. He was the spitting image of his grandfather and loved visiting his grandmother every day.&nbsp;

Chris Devon Downs

Alicia Naylor Goehring, 61, of San Francisco, died August 23, 2022, in the arms of her loving husband, Jerry, after a brief and courageous battle with cancer.

Alicia was born September 15, 1960, to Jack and Alice Naylor. She graduated from Burlington High School in 1978.&nbsp; She received her BA in History/Business from Coe College and her MA in Urban and Regional Planning from Ball State.

Alicia married Jerry Goehring in 1981.&nbsp; He survives her as do her three sisters, Jan (Peter) Allan and Pat (Bill) Larsen, both of DePere, Wisconsin, and Debbie (Andy) Opiekun of Burlington, brother-in-law, Duane and his family of Destin, Florida along with several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great-nephews.

Alicia had several remarkable achievements in her career starting with being the first Director of the Burlington National Main Street Program.

She went on to be Director of the Bureau of Downtown Development, Director of the Division of Historical Preservation and held various Director positions at the Wisconsin Historical Society during her 32 years in Wisconsin.&nbsp; She then took a "retirement job" in San Francisco as Executive Director/ CEO of the California Historical Society.

A Celebration of Life will be held in San Francisco.&nbsp;

A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 17, following at 9:30 a.m. visitation at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home. A time of food and fellowship will be held in the community room at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home after the service. Burial will be held at a later date in Burlington.&nbsp;

Her husband wrote: "She was largely accepting and unemotional throughout her treatment, which in turn inspired her doctors and surgeons to see how strong she was.&nbsp; In addition, given the fact that she worked hard to preserve history and promote the unfettered access to history education that influenced millions of people over time, I like to think that her unfinished work and comments should, in fact, be left to the imagination."&nbsp;

Donna Norma Hobbs, 91, of Burlington, died Monday, September 5, 2022, at the Klein Center in West Burlington.

Born November 5, 1930, in Yellow Springs Township, Ia., she was the daughter of John Henry and Evelyn Deloris Lyons Mehaffy. On February 5, 1950, she married Richard William Hobbs in Burlington. He died on August 18, 1992.

She was a 1948 graduate of Burlington High School.&nbsp;

Donna worked at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant for 37 years.&nbsp; She retired as an administrative assistant in 1987.

She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church.&nbsp; She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and enjoyed knitting and reading. She loved animals, especially dogs. Donna liked to do crosswords, play cards, and enjoyed looking up her family genealogy and creating books based on what she found.

Survivors include her brother, Kenneth Mehaffy of Cedar Rapids; sister, Joyce Davis of&nbsp;Burlington, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Ramona Byerly, brothers-in-law, Dale Byerly, Marvin Davis, and Bernard (Bub) Wagner; sister-in-law, Jeannette Mehaffy; two nephews, Marvin Mehaffy and Keith Byerly.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. with the family to receive friends Monday, September 12, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.

Donna Norma Hobbs

Wayne Weissenbuehler, 87, died from complications of Alzheimer’s on September 2, 2022, at Klein Center in West Burlington, Iowa.

Born August 19, 1935, in Charles City, Iowa, to his parents Henry and Anna Fredrick Weissenbuehler, Wayne was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church. He graduated from Charles City High School in 1953, and from Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa in 1957, majoring in New Testament Greek. 

He married Karen Dettmer in 1957. Wayne graduated from Wartburg Seminary in Dubuque, Iowa in 1961 with a Bachelor of Divinity degree, then stayed to complete a Master of Sacred Theology degree and teach in the seminary’s New Testament department.

Ordained into the American Lutheran Church in 1963, Wayne served St. John’s Lutheran Church in Pittsburg, Kansas, and Christ the King Lutheran Church in Denver, Colorado, before becoming assistant to the bishop of the Central District of the American Lutheran Church. He was elected bishop of the Central District in 1981, and in 1987 was elected the first bishop of Rocky Mountain Synod ELCA.

As bishop, Wayne helped create the Lutheran-Episcopal Concordat, served as a human shield to Lutheran bishop Medardo Gomez of El Salvador, encouraged congregations and church leaders in Madagascar and Estonia, and flew below the radar during the civil war in Namibia. He advocated for the ordination of women, served on college boards, and never, ever turned down an invitation to get in a pulpit. He loved his pastors and their congregations.

In 1993, Wayne became the senior pastor of Bethany Lutheran Church in Cherry Hills Village, Colo. There he traveled to Papua New Guinea to teach pastors, wrote a column for The Lutheran magazine, and taught New Testament Greek in the congregation. He played his ukulele for Bethany’s preschool and told stories about Nippy Nip the snake and Lo, the apostolic train.

Retiring from Bethany in 2006, Wayne returned to Iowa to work and teach at Wartburg Seminary in Dubuque, Iowa, and to be interim pastor at Zion Lutheran Church in Clinton, Iowa. He was associate pastor at Pilgrim Lutheran Church in St. Paul, Minn., and from 2009-2014, pastor of Faith Lutheran Church in Burlington, Iowa, taking a month off each summer to be chaplain at Lutheran Summer Music Academy at Luther College.

In retirement, Wayne joined Messiah Lutheran Church in Burlington, Iowa, and in his last years, resided at Klein Center nursing home in West Burlington, Iowa.&nbsp;

He is survived by his wife, the Rev. Susanne Smith, by children Mary Giles, Sarah Weissenbuehler and husband Rev. Jeff Corson, and Matthew Weissenbuehler and wife Annell Weissenbuehler, by stepchildren Luke Armstrong and partner Sara Lovelace, and Johanna Mees and husband Eric Mees, by grandchildren Daniel Giles, Anna Wright, Adam, Rachel, Rebekah, and Sophia Corson, Elizabeth Obenchain, Nickie McKeever, and Brennan Weissenbuehler, Isaac and Sophia Armstrong, Roman and Sawyer Mees, and by many great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, by brother David, by first wife, Karen, and by an infant daughter, Ann. His memorial service will be held at Bethany Lutheran Church, Cherry Hills Village, Colo., with ELCA Rocky Mountain Synod bishop Jim Gonia and Bethany senior pastor Gary Sandburg presiding. Wayne will be buried in the columbarium at Bethany Lutheran Church, Cherry Hills Village, Colorado. He asked that memorial gifts be given to Wartburg Theological Seminary, 333 Wartburg Place, Dubuque, Iowa, 52003.

Matthew Kevin Sink, 40, formerly of Burlington, died Sunday, September 4, 2022, in Clinton, Ia.

Born June 22, 1982, in Burlington, he was the son of Dennis Lee and Debra Kay (Lindblad) Sink.

Matt was an Ironworker and worked for A-Lert for ADM in Clinton.

He helped coach Clinton Junior Baseball and Impact traveling baseball. Matt enjoyed fishing, kayaking, hiking, and watching football. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye and Green Bay Packers fan. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his boys.

Survivors include his parents Dennis and Debra; his two sons, Hunter Matthew Sink and Colton Lee Sink of Clinton; significant other, Amber Lynne Smith of Clinton; bonus kids, Brody Aaron Charles Smith-Myers and Brooks Zachary Smith-Eversoll of Clinton; two brothers, Scott Allen Sink and Christopher Lee (Deanna) Sink of Burlington; two sisters, Kayley Lynn Smith and Ashley Kay (Travis) Griffin of North Port, Fla.; grandmother Wanda Lee Sink of Burlington and several nieces and nephews.

Matthew Kevin Sink

Jeffery Allen Snyder, 59, of Burlington, died Thursday, September 1, 2022, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born August 12, 1963, in Burlington, he was the son of Elmer George and Marcia Jean Whaley Snyder.

He was a graduate of Burlington High School.&nbsp;

Jeff worked many years as a CNC Operator for GE and later retired from Federal-Mogul.

Jeff was a Scout in his youth and grew up loving the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting for Deer and Turkey, riding his motorcycle, and loved attending music concerts. He especially loved his three dogs, Luke, Zoey, and Charlie.

Survivors include his brother, David Scott Snyder of Burlington; sister, Teresa (Tim) Ruberg of Burlington; nephew &amp; niece, Tyler and Marcy; and two great-nieces, Layla and Savannah.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Richard Snyder.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday, September 10, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.

Lois Darlene Polson, 90, of Burlington, died Wednesday, August 31, 2022, at the Danville Care Center.

Born November 20, 1931, in Lonetree, Ill., she was the daughter of Ovid Floren and Helen Anna Larkins Polson.

Lois worked for 28 years at Champion Spark Plug.

She was a member of Divine Mercy Parish.&nbsp; She enjoyed gardening, walking, reading, and bell collecting.

Survivors include her son, Steven (Kim) Polson of Burlington; granddaughter, Jamie (Tony) Lambert of Kansa City, Kan.; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; two brothers, Jack (Linda) Polson of Gladstone, Ill. and Paul Polson of Burlington; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers Frankie, Jerry, and Richard Polson, and two sisters, Doris Rowland and Mary Lukens.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 6, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.

Joan Hilber Foley, 95, of Burlington, died Tuesday, August 30, 2022, at the Bickford Cottage in Burlington.

Born June 28, 1927, in Shelbyville, Mo., she was the daughter of William Milford and Maude Howerton Hilber. On September 14, 1947, she married Milton Keith Foley in Quincy, Ill. He died on June 6, 2019.

Joan was a homemaker and did secretarial work at Benner Tea Co. and Yetter Oil Co.

She was a very active member of Parkside Baptist Church.&nbsp; She was a member of P.E.O. Chapter HU, Des Moines County Historical Society, Friends of the Library, Civic Music, Kings Daughters, Burlington Hospital Auxiliary, Iowa Study Club, Prospect Hill PTA, Room Mother, and a Sunday School Teacher.&nbsp; She was always proud to be a farm girl.

Survivors include two daughters, Sue (Dwight) Foley Mulch of Burlington, and Kate (Christian) Foley-Beining of Healdsburg, Calif.; one son, Mark (Michelle) Foley of Grimes, Ia.; nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband of 72 years, she was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Jerry Hilber.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for the Capitol Theater Foundation and the Des Moines County Historical Society.&nbsp;

Carroll A. Williams, 83, of Burlington, died Friday, September 2, 2022, at his home.

Born April 10, 1939, in Oakville, Ia. he was the son of Wilber and Mary Heath Williams.

Carroll graduated from Oakville High School and earned his associate's degree at Southeastern Community College. He served in the United States Army at the beginning of the Vietnam conflict.

On December 9, 1966, Carroll married Marjorie Zippe in Burlington.

Carroll was a pilot on tugboats, he worked for Sinclair Petro Chemical (First Miss), Niehaus Motors, and he was the supervisor of the motor pool at I.A.A.P. He retired in 2004.

Carroll was a member of Wapello Masonic Lodge A.F. and A.M. and he was a 32-degree mason. He was also a Shriner. Carroll enjoyed hunting and fishing and working on cars.

Survivors include his wife, Marjorie; two sons Brian (Patty) Williams of Burlington and Jason (Julie) Williams of Las Vegas, Nev.; grandchildren Breana (Michael) Hawkins, Ben (Lindsey) Lofthus, Erika Lofthus, Ashley Williams, and Garrett Williams; great-grandchildren Sydney, Avery, J.D., Emmlyan, Liam, Adliegh; one sister Lola Yotter of Mediapolis, Ia.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and one nephew.

Catherine "Kay" Mary Budzyn, 88, of Burlington, died Tuesday, August 30, 2022, at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center, West Burlington, Ia.

Born October 27, 1933, in Burlington, Ia., she was the daughter of James Wollmer and Helen M. Muckenstrom Norton. On May 28, 1955, she married Edmund D. Budzyn in Burlington. He passed on December 9, 1994.

She was a 1951 graduate of Burlington High School.&nbsp;

Kay was a banquet waitress at the Holiday Inn and Pzazz for 20 years. She worked for IRC-TRW for 10 years and sold Avon for 55 years.

She was a member of Divine Mercy Parish-St. John's Catholic Church, AARP, NARF, and Primetime - West Burlington First Christian Church. When Kay wasn't relaxing at home, she enjoyed going to the casino, trips to Las Vegas, going on cruises, and taking bus trips with AM Vision, the Good Neighbors Club, Circa 21 Dinner Theater, and many others. Her favorite thing was to spend time with family and have get-togethers.&nbsp;

Survivors include her sons, Edmund (April) Budzyn and Joseph Budzyn, both of Burlington, and John (Jana) Budzyn of Palmyra, Mo.; daughters, Maureen (Leon) Heuvelmann, Martha (Curt) Diewold, and Mary (Todd) Larson, all of Burlington; 15 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her parents; and one sister, Janet L. Casady.

Visitation with the family to receive friends will be from 9 to 11 a.m., concluding with full military honors rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 10, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home. Following military honors, inurnment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Catherine "Kay" Mary Budzyn

Dave Charles Harris, 74, of Carman, Ill. died Friday, August 26, 2022, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born July 31, 1948, in Burlington, he was the son of Charles Henry and Mary Jane Abolt Harris.

He attended Notre Dame and later graduated from BHS.&nbsp;Dave had entered the United States Navy but was medically discharged prior to his graduation.

He was an Electronic Technician for D&amp;R Amusement for 35 years.

Dave was of the Catholic Faith. He was a member of Ed's Cascade Fishing and Hunting Club (Big Island) since 1998 and Cascade Boating Association since 2003 where he enjoyed socializing with friends. He loved hunting, trapping, and fishing all year long. Dave and his daughter would go camping and fishing every summer. He loved spending time with his daughter and grandkids. He loved the Mississippi River and bought a cabin in 2001 on Big Island where he would live&nbsp; 8-9 months out of the year. Dave would come home right before the ice would form on the shores. He shared his love for the outdoors and the Mississippi River with his grandkids and son-in-law. Later in his life, Dave really enjoyed cooking meals for his family.

Survivors include his daughter, Tasha (Jared) Prickett of Burlington; two grandchildren, Alysa Lyn Prickett of Fort Madison and Ethan Jared Prickett of Burlington; three brothers, Harold (Kathleen) Harris of Glastonbury, Conn., John Harris of Burlington, and Tom (Michelle) Harris of Windsor, Conn.; and one sister, Carol (Tony) Orth of Burlington.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and grandson, Isaiah Charles Prickett.

Dave Charles Harris

Donald “Don” Swink, 77, of Burlington, died Saturday, August 27, 2022, at his home.&nbsp;

Born June 3, 1945, in Burlington, Iowa, he was the son of Melvin Hugh and Eileen Ball Swink.&nbsp;

He married Donna Dunn on August 21, 1970, in Burlington.&nbsp; Don worked for Lehigh Leopold, Arco, Exide until they closed and more recently for Enterprise Car Rental. He was a member of West Hill United Methodist Church where he served as chair SPRC.&nbsp;

He was Scoutmaster and assistant for Boy Scouts Troop 2, very active in the union, and served as Santa for many years at the kids union party, and served in many capacities with the Isaac Walton League.&nbsp;

Don was a family man; he enjoyed his large family gatherings. He loved camping and had a passion for playing cards and excelled at it. He had many friends throughout his life.&nbsp;

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Donna Swink of Burlington; two children, Anne (Jerry) Peitzman of Des Moines and Eric Swink of Burlington; two very special grandsons, Andrew Peitzman and Henry Peitzman, both of Des Moines; two grand dogs Zeus and Wilbur; three sisters, Kay Swink of Burlington, Paula (Cliff) Kilpatrick of Round Rock, Texas, and Luana (Tim) Nelson of Forney, Texas and several nieces and nephews and friends he considered family.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Jon Swink and Charlie Swink; and two sisters, Diana Flactiff and Barbara Middleton.&nbsp;

According to Don’s wishes, there will be no funeral services. Cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.&nbsp;

Memorials have been established for the Southeast Iowa Renal Dialysis to benefit their staff and patients and West Hill United Methodist Church.&nbsp;

 </figure>Donald “Don” Swink, 77, of Burlington, died Saturday, August 27, 2022, at his home.&nbsp; Born June 3, 1945, in Burlington, Iowa, he was the son of Melvin Hugh and Eileen Ball Swink.&nbsp; He married Donna Dunn on August 21, 1970, in Burlington.&nbsp; Don worked for Lehigh Leopold, Arco, Exide until they closed and more recently for Enterprise Car Rental. He was a member of West Hill United Methodist Church where he served as chair SPRC.&nbsp; He was Scoutmaster and assistant for Boy Scouts Troop 2, very active in the union, and served as Santa for many years at the kids union party, and served in many capacities with the Isaac Walton League.&nbsp; Don was a family man; he enjoyed his large family gatherings. He loved camping and had a passion for playing cards and excelled at it. He had many friends throughout his life.&nbsp; He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Donna Swink of Burlington; two children, Anne (Jerry) Peitzman of Des Moines and Eric Swink of Burlington; two very special grandsons, Andrew Peitzman and Henry Peitzman, both of Des Moines; two grand dogs Zeus and Wilbur; three sisters, Kay Swink of Burlington, Paula (Cliff) Kilpatrick of Round Rock, Texas, and Luana (Tim) Nelson of Forney, Texas and several nieces and nephews and friends he considered family.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Jon Swink and Charlie Swink; and two sisters, Diana Flactiff and Barbara Middleton.&nbsp; According to Don’s wishes, there will be no funeral services. Cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.&nbsp; Memorials have been established for the Southeast Iowa Renal Dialysis to benefit their staff and patients and West Hill United Methodist Church.&nbsp;

Darell D. Pentzel, 68, of Winfield died Saturday, August 20, 2022, in Des Moines.&nbsp;

Born July 3, 1954, in Burlington he was the son of James and Lillian Feehan Pentzel. Darell married Barb Carroll in 1998. They were married for 20 years. She preceded him in death in June 2018.&nbsp;

Darell attended West Burlington Arnold High School. He was enlisted in the US Army from 1973 to 1979.&nbsp;

Darell worked at Tyson and Freuhoff in Fort Madison. Most recently he worked in janitorial services at the Veterans Hospital in Iowa City for 7 years.&nbsp;

Darell was liked by everybody. He would do anything for anybody, and he loved kids.&nbsp;

Survivors include two sisters; Marie of Burlington and Mary of Cedar Falls; special friend Lois of Batavia; numerous nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

A celebration of life will be held at the Veterans Administration Medical Center Chapel, 601 Highway 6 West, Iowa City, Ia. 52246.&nbsp;

The graveside service for Darell will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, August 31, at Keokuk National Cemetery. Full military rites will be rendered.&nbsp;

Robert Orval Hellenthal, 95, of Burlington, died Monday, August 29, 2022, at the New London Specialty Care Center.&nbsp;

Born February 26, 1927, in Burlington and he was the son of Orval Henry and Winona Magdelene Bruhl Hellenthal.&nbsp; Robert attended St Paul’s Catholic Schools in Burlington. He married Susan Mae McNeece on July 7, 1984, in West Burlington. She died January 13, 2017.&nbsp;

Robert retired from Industrial property assistant management. He worked for Federal Civil Service for 33 years.&nbsp;

He was a member of Divine Mercy Parish. He also was a member of the Eagles Aerie #150 and the National Rifle Association.&nbsp;

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Orval and Winona, and his wife Susan.&nbsp;

The mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Friday, September 2, &nbsp;at St. John’s Catholic Church with the Very Reverend Marty Goetz officiating. Interment will follow at Aspen Grove Cemetery. Friends may call from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday, September 1, 2022, at Lunning Chapel.&nbsp;

Robert Orval Hellenthal

Bonnie Marie White, 80, of Burlington, died unexpectedly Wednesday, August 24, 2022, at her home in Burlington, Iowa.

Born June 19, 1942, in Burlington, Iowa, she was the daughter of Arthur Coulter and Dorothy May Arpe Roxlau. On December 2, 1967, she married Franklin Thomas in Dexter, Ia. He preceded her in death on March 30, 2013.

She was a 1960 graduate of Burlington High School.

She was a machine operator for Winegard Co. for 18 years and was self-employed doing interior painting and wallpapering for over 30 years

Bonnie was a member of First Presbyterian Church where she was an Elder, a Deacon, and helped with missions. She was a past member of First United Church of Christ where she taught Sunday school for many years and served on almost every church committee. One of her favorite committee activities was volunteering to ring the Salvation Army bell during the holidays. 

She was a very loving and caring person. She was great at connecting with old and new friends and keeping those relationships strong. She was blessed with wonderful neighbors who became dear friends. She was someone who was always willing to help wherever she could. As she would say, "See a need, meet a need." 

Bonnie co-founded the "Yum Yums", a church dinner club. She was on the Women's Committee at the Elks Club. She enjoyed putting together puzzles during the winter months and gardening in the summer months. Bonnie was a master at balancing her work and home life. Although she worked full time, she always kept a clean home and delicious meals on the table. For this, she was nominated for Burlington Junior Women's League Woman of the Year. She raised her children and lived by the motto "For a happy life, want what you have." This motto brought much happiness to her life and the lives of her family.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Survivors include one daughter, Terri (Jeff) Huddleston of Burlington; one son, Jeff White of Burlington; two grandchildren, Lauren Huddleston of Mt. Pleasant and Jordan Huddleston of Burlington; one brother, Harry Joseph Hill of Carthage, Ill.; three sisters, Patricia (Dennis) Brown of Burlington, Jo Ann Bryant of Burlington, and Paula (Michael) Jakob of Virginia; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; step-father, Joseph Hill; brother, Paul Roxlau; and sister, Betty Crabill.

Visitation with the family to receive friends will be from 10 to &nbsp;11 a.m., Monday, August 29, 2022, at First Presbyterian Church.

The memorial service for Mrs. White will be 11 a.m. Monday, August 29, at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dick Johnson officiating.&nbsp; A time of food and fellowship will be held at First Presbyterian Church following the memorial service.

Memorials have been established for First Presbyterian Church mission fund and the Des Moines County Humane Society.

John Karl Sandell, 73, of Burlington, died Thursday, August 25, 2022, at his home in Burlington.

Born August 28, 1948, in Burlington, Ia., he was the son of Karl Donald and Justine Walz Sandell. On August 16, 1969, he married Judy Radtke in Summit, Ill.&nbsp;

John graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1966. In 1970, he graduated from Creighton University in Omaha, Neb.

He was the President and CEO of Wholesale Distributors and Newsland.

John was a longtime member of Elks and Knights of Columbus and President of the Burlington Steam Boat Days in 1984. He was elected in 1990 to the Burlington City Council and from 1996 to 1998, he was the Burlington Mayor. He was a member of the Des Moines County Historical Society and was a history buff, once hosting a show on KBUR about the history of Burlington. John was a frequent caller to the KCPS Morning Show. He enjoyed his family's 38 summer trips to Door County, Wisconsin.

Survivors include his wife, Judy Sandell of Burlington; two sons, David John (Verity) Sandell of Skokie, Ill., and Stephen Thomas Sandell of Burlington; three grandchildren, Jeremiah, Joshua, Esme Sandell; sister, Marcia (Butch) Bright of Rock Falls, Ill; nephew, Timothy Hurd; and niece, Justina George.

He was preceded in death by his parents and infant sister.

Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. with the family to receive friends September 9, 2022, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.

Tony R. Norton, 59, of Prescott Valley, Arizona, died August 16, 2022, in Wyoming. 

He was the son of Donald and Linda Norton born November 25, 1963, in Burlington, Iowa. 

Tony served in the Navy and went back to school later in life to be a trucker. 

He is survived by his wife, Sherry Thompson, one daughter, Bridget Luebbers, one son, Duston Norton; &nbsp;six grandchildren; &nbsp;and two sisters, Lin Weyrick and Tami Norton of Burlington, Iowa. 

Tony was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Cody Norton. There will be no service at this time and a planned celebration of life will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, you may send memorials to Lunning Chapel.

James Herbert (Jimmy) Johnson, 70, died August 22, 2022.&nbsp;&nbsp;

 </figure>James Herbert (Jimmy) Johnson, 70, died August 22, 2022.&nbsp;&nbsp; He was born May 16, 1952, in Burlington, Iowa, the middle child of Herbert F. Johnson and Anna Fern Gardner Johnson.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his father, Herb Johnson, mother, Fern Johnson, brother, Carl (Johnny) Johnson, ex-wife, Toni Harbin Johnson, and his beloved dog, ZigZag.&nbsp; Jimmy lived most of his adult life in Las Vegas, where he made his living painting and remodeling homes. During that time, he developed a long list of loyal clients. He moved back to Burlington permanently in 2021 and was enjoying reconnecting with his Iowa family and life-long friends.&nbsp; Jimmy was a competitive pool player and won numerous tournaments and awards. He enjoyed music, especially bluesy artists like BB King, Lynryd Skynyrd, Eric Clapton, and Santana, and would take in lounge shows and live music at every opportunity (of which there were many during the years he lived in Las Vegas). He was a movie buff, especially action and vampire movies, documentaries, and Antique Road Show. He loved watching NFL games and always supported the hometown team wherever he lived. He loved fishing, camping, and Keno. He had a creative side and was good at making things out of wood. His tree-root art was especially interesting.&nbsp; Jimmy was a kind person, funny, smart, respectful, and a loyal friend. He will most definitely be missed.&nbsp; He is survived by his three sisters; Ginger Lite, Maribeth (Ed) Taschner, Tina Johnson, and sister-in-law Rose (Johnny) Johnson; two nephews, Chris Weiler and Jeremy (Sue) Lite; two nieces, Jennifer Summers and Dawn Johnson, and numerous nieces and nephews.&nbsp;He was preceded in death by his father, Herb Johnson, mother, Fern Johnson, brother, Carl (Johnny) Johnson, ex-wife, Toni Harbin Johnson, and his beloved dog, ZigZag.&nbsp;A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
