Sandy J. Marlette, 71, of Burlington, died Tuesday, August 16, 2022, at the University of Iowa Hospitals &amp; Clinics in Iowa City surrounded by her family.

Born May 4, 1951, in Centerville, Ia., she was the daughter of Virgil and Ethel Bartusek Plath. On May 25, 1974, she married Donald S. in Carthage, Ill. He preceded her in death on December 6, 2002.

Sandy graduated from Burlington High School in 1969.

She was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church. Sandy enjoyed word searches and puzzles. She liked going on walks and reading, especially her Bible, and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her son, Donald (Sarah) Marlette, Jr. of St. Cloud, Minn.; two daughters, Rhonda (Jon) Marlette of Nashua, Ia., and Sierra (Zach) Shaffer of Burlington; one step-daughter, Teresa (Ernie) Taylor of Burlington; three step-sons, Dennis, David, and Duane Marlette; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild on the way; brothers,&nbsp;Lester Plath of West Burlington, John Plath of West Burlington, and Randy Plath of Stronghurst, lll.; and&nbsp;sister,&nbsp;Carol Forester of Burlington.

Besides her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents and granddaughter, Lenora.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7:00 p.m. with a short service of the word at 7 p.m., Wednesday, August 24, 2022, at Concordia Lutheran Church.

The funeral service for Mrs. Marlette will be 10 a.m. Thursday, August 25, at Concordia Lutheran Church with Pastor Christopher Roepke officiating.&nbsp; Burial will be in Prairie Grove Cemetery.&nbsp;

Memorials have been established for Concordia Lutheran Church and St. Jude's Children's Hospital.

David Joseph Braun, 45, of Burlington, died Saturday, July 30, 2022, at his home.

Born July 28, 1977, in Burlington, Ia., he was the son of Joseph Lee and Gail Maria Smith Braun.&nbsp;

He was a graduate of Burlington High School.&nbsp;

David was currently running his own lawn care business in the Burlington Area.

David was very religious and attended church regularly. He enjoyed spending time outdoors fishing or having BBQs with his friends and family. He could be found playing darts or eating out with his friends. David will be remembered for always helping a friend when they were in need.&nbsp;

Survivors include his father, Joseph Lee Braun; girlfriend, Malisa Wingo; brothers, sisters, cousins, and his many friends.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his mother and brothers, Robert and John Timmerman.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

The memorial service for Mr. Braun will be 11 a.m. Saturday, September 10, at Hope Community Church.&nbsp;Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery at a later date.

Sandra (Sandy) F. Davis, 90, died quietly on August 18, 2022, in Burlington, Iowa, surrounded by her&nbsp;family. Sandra was born January 23, 1932, the first child of Arthur M. Samuelson and Lillian Diemer&nbsp;Samuelson. 

Other than a few years while her husband Marvel was working on a large construction&nbsp;project in Oregon, she lived her entire life in and around Burlington.&nbsp; Sandra met her soul mate, Marvel, through the careful planning of both of their younger sisters. If it wasn’t love at first sight, it was very close. Sandra married Marvel Davis April 20, 1948, at her parent’s home in Burlington. They were looking forward to their 60th wedding anniversary when he passed away unexpectedly in 2006.&nbsp; As a young wife and mother, Sandra centered her life around raising her four children. An excellent self-taught cook, she always creatively stretched the food budget. She taught herself to can and grow vegetables, as well as to sew; these skills she also taught her children. She loved music, and she always&nbsp; had a record playing in the house, mostly the big bands of the 1940’s. Her children grew up listening and&nbsp;singing along to those old tunes. Sandra served as President of the Grimes School PTA during the time&nbsp;her children were in attendance. She also enjoyed being her sons’ Cub Scout leader. She especially&nbsp;enjoyed being a member of King’s Daughters and served for a time as the club’s president.&nbsp; Sandra had a unique zest for life, and her personality and intellect drew people to her. She had the&nbsp;uncanny ability to recognize adults when she met them, even those whom she had not seen since&nbsp;childhood. She worked at Clark’s Drug Store for many years, and once her children were grown, she&nbsp;embarked on a successful real estate career, taking great joy in helping her clients find the perfect home.&nbsp; With her genuine care for others and her commitment to her family and the community, it is no surprise&nbsp;that she was universally loved and respected. On at least two occasions Sandy gave her entire commission to help a young family get into a home. She loved the business but loved people even more.&nbsp; Sandra is survived by her two sisters, Sue Waligora (Ed) of Bettendorf, Ia.; Sharon Sherbondy of N.C.; Son Brian (Deb) Davis of Middleton, Wis.; Daughter Kathy (Rick) Little of Burlington; Son Mark&nbsp;(Bobbie) Davis of Melbourne, Fla.; her grandchildren: Travis (Dianne) Little of New London, Ia.; Teresa Good of Burlington, Ia.; Chali Davis of Derry, N.H.; Brian A. (Alicia) Davis, JR. of Aurora, Co.; and Joel Davis; her great-grandchildren Taylor (Kaitlyn) Masotta, Jodie (Tom) Campbell, Jessica Masotta, Alyssa Little,&nbsp;Tyler Little, Baley (Jared) Sunds, Jarret Good, Maxwell Davis, and Vincent Davis.&nbsp; A celebration of life for Sandra F. James Scott Sandy, 59, of Burlington, died Tuesday, August 16, 2022, at his home.

Born November 8, 1962, in Burlington, he was the son of Larry Laverne and Sandra Kay Gibbs Sandy. He married Renee Lynn Clark on Christmas in Las Vegas, Nev. From this union two sons were born, Garrett and Grant. They later divorced.

He was a graduate of West Burlington High School. James worked for Exide for over ten years and later as a custodian for SCC for many years.

James was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, flying drones, photography, and listening to music. He loved animals, especially his dog, Meka.

Survivors include his son, Grant Sandy; and brother, Jeffery Sandy, both of Burlington.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Garrett James Sandy, and his former wife, Renee Sandy.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Lisa Rae Spears, 55 of Roanoke, Vir. died Monday, August 15, 2022, at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville, Vir.&nbsp;

Born April 27, 1967, in Burlington, Ia., she was the daughter of Harold T. Cluney and Bonnie J. Neff Cluney. She was married to Sean Spears on June 21, 1991.&nbsp;

Lisa loved music and singing and had a song for everything. She had a great sense of humor with a touch of sarcasm, and she never met a stranger.&nbsp;

She was devoted to her children and grandchildren and was Scarlette's favorite Grammy.&nbsp;

She is survived by her husband, Sean Spears of Roanoke, Vir.; one son, Uriah Spears of Charlotte, N.C.; two daughters, Sharayah Spears of Nashville, Tenn. and Saterra (Morgan) Spears of Roanoke, Vir.; two grandchildren, Scarlette Moon of Roanoke, Vir. and Keanu Liam of Charlotte, N.C.; one brother, Tom (Denise) Cluney of Hartsville, S.C.; and one sister, Nancy (Chris) Creagan of Nashville, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, one nephew, and one granddaughter.&nbsp;

The funeral service for Lisa will be 11 a.m. Monday, August 22 at Burlington First Assembly of God. Interment will be in Long Creek Cemetery, rural Danville. Brent Wheeler, 62, of Perry, Ia., formerly of Burlington died Thursday, August 11, 2022, at home.

Born November 16, 1959, in Burlington, he was the son of Charles Wayne and Carol J. Purdum Wheeler.

He was a graduate of Burlington Community High School.&nbsp;

Brent was a man that loved his family. He respected and loved his mother, was a best friend to his sister, and was “the greatest uncle” ever according to his nieces.&nbsp; Referred to as "Be", his favorite activities included cards with his family, Marvel movies, and football. His family of 17 could each individually tell you their favorite activity and memory of time spent with Uncle Be.&nbsp;

Survivors include his mother, Carol J. Wheeler of Perry; brother, Jeff (Carol) Wheeler of Altoona; sister, Jackie McCord of Perry; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Wayne Wheeler, and brother, Lonny James Wheeler.

Frances Doreen Rector, 97, of Burlington, formerly of Mediapolis, died at 10:57 p.m. Saturday, August 13, 2022 at the Great River Klein Center in West Burlington.

Born December 23, 1924, in Melrose, Ia. she was the daughter of Tom and Annie Grogan Navin. On August 5, 1946, she married Ivan L. Rector in Des Moines Iowa. He died on November 9, 2019.

Doreen worked in different offices. The longest at A.S.C.S. office in Fairfield, Ia.

She was a member of Divine Mercy Parish SS Mary and Patrick Catholic Church in West Burlington. She enjoyed her family, music, playing cards, and crocheting.

Survivors include three sons, Dan (Cindy) Rector of Ankeny, Ia. Dean (Pat) Rector of Marion, Ia., and Joe (Kim) Rector of West Burlington; one daughter, Nancy (Jim) Davenport of Storm Lake, Ia.; nine grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she is preceded in death by three sisters, and one brother.

Visitation will begin with a Rosary Service from 9:30 a.m. until 10 a.m. and the family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 16, 2022, at Divine Mercy Parish SS Mary and Patrick Catholic Church in West Burlington.

The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection for Mrs. Rector will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 16, 2022, at Divine Mercy Parish SS Mary and Patrick Catholic Church with Very Rev. Fr. Marty Goetz as the celebrant. A Time of food and fellowship will be held in the SS Mary and Patrick Cafeteria following the service. Burial will be in Kossuth Cemetery following the luncheon.

Suzanne C. Bloomer, 67, of Burlington, died Saturday, August 13, 2022, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born September 13, 1954, in Omaha, NE, she was the daughter of Kenneth P. and Nina M. Gibbs Johnson. On August 6, 1997, she married Gerald "Jerry" Lee Bloomer in Hot Springs, SD.&nbsp;

She was a psychology, sociology, and English teacher for the state of S.D. for 17 years and a prevention specialist on a South Dakota Reservation.

Suzanne was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in Burlington and the Phi Kappa Honor Society. She enjoyed art and fishing.

Survivors include her husband of 25 years, Gerald "Jerry" Lee Bloomer; daughter, Stephanie (Frank) Garneaux of Grisham, Ore.; two grandchildren, Kain and Daniel Garneaux; father, Kenneth P. Johnson of Manhattan, Kan.; step-son, Ken (Sandra) Bloomer; step-daughter, Julie (Matt) Martineau of Mediapolis; step-grandchildren, Amanda Shafer, Logan Cooper, Colin, and Hailey Bloomer; brother, Daniel James (Linda) Johnson of Bettendorf; sister, Laurie Johnson of Manhattan, Kan.; and four nephews, Hunter Bagby, Aaron, Jeremy, and Brad Johnson.

John Charles Mickey, 60, of Burlington died Wednesday, August 10, 2022 at his residence.&nbsp;

Born October 20, 1961, in Burlington, he was the son of Donald Duane and Mavis Claudette Schleiper Mickey.&nbsp;

John was a 1979 graduate of Union High School in Illinois and earned his associate degree from Southeastern Community College. He served in the United States Navy and the Navy Reserves.&nbsp;

On October 10, 1987, John married Joyce Marie Haight at West Burlington United Methodist Church.&nbsp;

John was a construction laborer and he loved golf and spending time with his children. He would tell stories of his time overseas &amp; in the Navy. With his family, he enjoyed watching football and playing left, right, and center with the nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

Survivors include his daughter Erin Elizabeth Mickey of West Burlington and son Tory Alexander Paige Mickey of Glade Hills, Va.; brother Donald Mickey of Burlington; sisters Judy Avery of Stronghurst, Ill., Gail Cale of Donnellson, Ia, Kelly Mickey of Gulfport, Ill. and several nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his parents Donald and Mavis.&nbsp; Cremation has been accorded and entrusted to Lunning Chapel.&nbsp;

 </figure>John Charles Mickey, 60, of Burlington died Wednesday, August 10, 2022 at his residence.&nbsp; Born October 20, 1961, in Burlington, he was the son of Donald Duane and Mavis Claudette Schleiper Mickey.&nbsp; John was a 1979 graduate of Union High School in Illinois and earned his associate degree from Southeastern Community College. He served in the United States Navy and the Navy Reserves.&nbsp; On October 10, 1987, John married Joyce Marie Haight at West Burlington United Methodist Church.&nbsp; John was a construction laborer and he loved golf and spending time with his children. He would tell stories of his time overseas &amp; in the Navy. With his family, he enjoyed watching football and playing left, right, and center with the nieces and nephews.&nbsp; Survivors include his daughter Erin Elizabeth Mickey of West Burlington and son Tory Alexander Paige Mickey of Glade Hills, Va.; brother Donald Mickey of Burlington; sisters Judy Avery of Stronghurst, Ill., Gail Cale of Donnellson, Ia, Kelly Mickey of Gulfport, Ill. and several nieces and nephews.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents Donald and Mavis.&nbsp; Cremation has been accorded and entrusted to Lunning Chapel.&nbsp;

Barbara S. Middelton, 83, of West Burlington, died Friday, August 12, 2022, at Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation in Burlington.&nbsp;

Born November 7, 1938, in Iowa City, Iowa, she was the daughter of Melvin Hugh and Eileen Ball Swink. She married Donald Middleton. He died December 31, 1996.&nbsp;

She worked for I.A.A.P., Campbell Chain, St. Francis Nursing Home, and finally for Schaffer Pen until her retirement in 2000.&nbsp;

Barb was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Iowa Hawkeyes fan. She was the BEST COOK EVER! She enjoyed card nights with her siblings and nieces and nephews, sewing; and cherished her time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.&nbsp;

She is survived by her five children; Cindy (Greg) Krogmeier of Mt. Pleasant, Laurie Benhart (Jeff Skow) and Lisa Buehner both of Burlington, Jim (Anne) Middleton of Leroy, Minnesota and Brenda (Moises) Rivera of Tenn.; her grandson Bryton Cross, whom she raised; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; her siblings, Kay Swink and Donnie (Donna) Swink both of Burlington, Paula (Cliff) Kilpatrick of Round Rock, Tex. and Luana (Tim) Nelson of Dallas, Tex.; special niece and nephew Mike and Jackie Swink and several nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers, John Swink and Charles Swink, one sister Diana Flactiff and son-in-law Gary Buehner.&nbsp;

A Celebration of Life will be held October 29th from 2-6 p.m. at the Burlington Gym. According to her wishes, cremation has been entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.&nbsp;

Born November 23, 1954, in Fort Madison, Iowa, he was the son of Cloud H. “Jupe” and Joanne Florang Thompson.&nbsp;

He graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Business Administration on May 10, 2014, from Baker University, Overland Park, Kansas.&nbsp;He married Kathleen Malloy on June 5, 1976, in Burlington, Iowa.&nbsp;

Rick was the Vice President of Sales for the Burlington Basket Company from 1976-2000. From 2000-2012 He was the CEO of the company.&nbsp;

He was a member of the First Congregational Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and working out with weights. But most of all, he loved talking and laughing with family and friends.&nbsp;

He is survived by his wife Kathleen Thompson of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; three children, Erin (Jud) Fawcett of Burlington, Iowa, Sarah (Shelby) Temps of Marysville, Kansas, and Christopher (Natasha) Thompson of Tucson, Arizona; six grandsons Ross Fawcett, Noah Thompson, Liam Fawcett, Owen Fawcett, Sean Thompson, and Levi Temps and two brothers, David Thompson of Phoenix, Arizona and Jason Thompson of Marshall, Wisconsin.&nbsp;

Ronald Lee Casey, 80, of Oquawka, died Wednesday, August 10, 2022, at his home.

Born November 15, 1941, in Aurora, Ill., he was the son of Levi Thomas and June Eileen Meyer Casey. On February 6, 1963, he married Bonnie M. Lyerla in Aurora. Bonnie passed on September 26, 2013.

Ronald worked for Maytag for over 30 years until his retirement.&nbsp; He later owned and operated "Little Brother's Place" in Oquawka with his wife.

Ronnie was a member of the First Christian Church in Keithsburg, Ill. He volunteered for the Oquawka Fire Department driving the Ambulance. He loved to travel, fish, camp, and his pets. He was the kind of man that knew no strangers and would give the shirt off of his back to help anyone. He especially loved visiting with family and spending time with them. The yearly family reunion was very important to him and he would always volunteer to help in any way.

Survivors include two sons, Billy (Marie) Casey of Roscoe, Ill., and Matthew (Michelle) Casey of Dexter, Ia.; two daughters, Tammy (Mike) Knapp of Joy, Ill., and Shawna (Abe) Weeks of Keithsburg, Ill.; 10 grandchildren, Andy (Ashley), Bethany, Tim (Beth), Danielle (Nathaniel), Adam (Morgan), Nick (Kris), Kerstin, Alexandria, Jessica, and Kristine: 14 great-grandchildren; brother, Bud (Carol) Casey of Oquawka, Ill.; and sister-in-law, Wanda Casey of Oquawka, Ill.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Mary Lee Casey; three brothers Joseph, Larry, and Terry; two sisters Ramona (Richard) Wilson, and Gwen (Bill) Forrester.

Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. with the family to receive friends on Saturday, August 20 at First Christian Church in Keithsburg, Ill.

Sharon Kay (Eckrich) Skerik, 83, of Coralville, Iowa, died on August 7th at the Bird House in Iowa City after a long illness. The beloved mother of Sarah and Joe, Sharon was predeceased by her parents, William and Lucille Eckrich of Iowa City, and her husband of 38 years, Joseph F. Skerik III of Burlington.&nbsp;

Born December 10, 1938, Sharon attended the old Coralville school, St. Mary’s school in Iowa City, and graduated from Iowa City City High School in 1956. In 1960, she graduated with a bachelor’s of science degree from the University of Iowa and practiced occupational therapy.&nbsp;

On March 16, 1968, Sharon married J. Skerik at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Iowa City. The couple moved to Burlington, Iowa, and raised two children. Sharon enjoyed a variety of interests, including history, family genealogy, playing bridge, gardening and homemaking. She was a member of SS John and Paul Catholic Church in Burlington, and St. Mary’s in Iowa City.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Sharon is survived by her brother, Dick Eckrich of Wichita, Kan., her children, Sarah Skerik Reschly (Blake) of Libertyville, Ill., and Joseph F. Skerik IV (Michelle), and two grandchildren, Joseph and Genevieve Skerik, of Tucson, Ariz.

The family will&nbsp;receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, August 16, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.

On Thursday, August 4, 2022, Daniel Dean Graham, loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away at home in Deland, Fla., at the age of 62.&nbsp; 

Daniel was born on February 6, 1960, in Burlington to Charles Nathan and Peggy Ilaine Astfalk Graham.&nbsp; 

He was a graduate of Burlington High School in 1979 and served in the United States Army and Iowa National Guard.&nbsp; On Sept., 5, 1987, he married Lisa Marie Fraise in Burlington.&nbsp; They raised their two children, Ashlie and Chase, in West Burlington.&nbsp; 

He loved to vacation in Florida with his family, which prompted a move in the last few years to Deland with his wife. He enjoyed spending time on the beach relaxing in the sun.&nbsp; He was known for being a helpful neighbor and willing volunteer. &nbsp;He was of Christian faith.&nbsp; 

Dan was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Michael Graham, and brother-in-law, Larry Blutt.&nbsp; 

He is survived by his wife of almost 35 years, Lisa; his two children, Ashlie (Matthew) Aaron of Sulphur, La., and Chase (Alexia) Graham of Coble, Tenn.; grandson, Maverick Graham; sister, Nancy Blutt; brother Scott Graham; nieces and nephews, and many extended family members.&nbsp; 

A memorial service will be held at a later date in Burlington.&nbsp; Interment will be at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery in Mims, Fla.

Kay Carol Messer, 75, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Tuesday, July 26, 2022, at the Southeast Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.

Kay was born January 21, 1947, in Mount Pleasant. She was the daughter of William Arthur and Anna Jane Enness McTee Sr. She graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in&nbsp; 1965. Kay earned an Associate’s degree from Southeastern Community College and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Western Illinois University. Kay furthered her studies at St. Ambrose University, working towards a master’s degree.

On February 14, 1993, at the Cottonwood United Methodist Church in rural Wayland, Kay was united in marriage to Dwight Edward Messer. Dwight preceded Kay in death on September 19, 2017.

Kay was employed at Sheaffer Pen Co. in Fort Madison and at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown. Kay had also worked for several nursing homes in the area. She worked full-time and one or more part-time jobs while going to school.

As a youth, she was a member of boys and girls 4-H, showing calves. Kay liked to sew and crochet. She loved to garden, tend to her flowers, and watch westerns. Kay was kept in constant companionship with her dachshund, Tanner.

Those thankful for sharing in Kay’s life include a daughter and her husband, Kim and Nathan Benz, and 2 grandsons – Remington and Caden Benz, all of Morning Sun; a sister, Virginia Starman of Burlington; a sister-in-law, Marilyn McTee of Mount Pleasant; a brother-in-law, Randy (Carrie Duncan) Messer of New London; a stepson, Timothy (Chris) Otterbeck-Messer of Cedar Rapids; a stepdaughter Lori Yancy of O’Fallon, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews and other members of her husband Dwight’s family.

In addition to her parents and husband, Kay is preceded in death by a brother, William McTee, Jr; a stepson, Scott Messer; and her beloved dachshund, Tanner.

Kay C. Messer

Willis Reed Brown, 99, of Burlington, formerly of Middletown, died at 8:43 a.m. Saturday, August 6, 2022, at the OakView Nursing Home and Rehabilitation in Burlington.

Born July 8, 1923, in Des Moines County, Iowa, he was the son of Robert Reed and Wilma M. Mohnike Brown. On November 16, 1947, he married Beverly J. Gladman in Grace Methodist Church, Burlington.

He was a 1942 graduate of Burlington High School.

He was a U.S. Navy Veteran, serving during World War II from February 24, 1944, until May 4, 1946.

Willis had worked as a setup man at Champion Spark Plug for over 28 years and retired in 1985.

He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, fishing, playing cards, and cutting wood. He loved helping his family and friends whenever they needed him. He was a dedicated husband and father.

Survivors include wife, Beverly J. Brown of Middletown; one son, Tim (Sue) Brown of Cedar Rapids, Ia.; one daughter, Cheryl (Dennis) Clawson of Burlington; seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Todd Brown; one sister, Evelyn Laue; one grandson, Dawson Brown; and one nephew, Bob Laue.&nbsp;

Visitation will be from 10 to 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 10, 2022, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.

The memorial service for Willis will be 11 &nbsp;a.m. &nbsp;Wednesday, August 10, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home. The Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard will render full military honors. A time of food and fellowship will be held in the community room at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home following the service. Burial will be in South Walker Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for Southeast Iowa Hospice and the Wounded Warriors Project.

Jack Thomas Burroughs, 14 of Burlington died Saturday, August 6, 2022 as the result of a car accident.&nbsp;

Born July 12, 2008 he was the son of Chase Thomas and Sommer Elizabeth Moore Burroughs. He was baptized at St. Paul United Church of Christ in West Burlington.&nbsp;

Jack graduated from Edward Stone Middle School and was entering Burlington High School as a freshman.&nbsp;This summer Jack was working with his dad in construction. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time with his brothers and sisters and was like a third parent to them. He also enjoyed time spent with his friends, good buddy Claytin and especially his girlfriend, Anica. Jack enjoyed going to the Iowa State Fair every year since he was three years old. He was a very positive youth and cared for everybody. He loved being outdoors, riding 4-wheelers and riding bikes. He could even do a ‘wheely” down the driveway.&nbsp;

Survivors include his parents Chase and Sommer; siblings Jacob, Finley, Emrey, and Jace; maternal grandparents Debbie Moore of Burlington, Kelly and Sondra Moore of Lee’s Summit, Mo., paternal grandparents Thomas and Fran Burroughs of Burlington, great-grandfather Jimmy Moore of Clinton, Mo.; aunts Shelbie (James) Doty and Kelli (Joe) Sattler; cousins Whitney and Britney Doty, Brooke and Sam Sattler, Riley, Jacey, Caleb, Haley, and Brynley; great aunts, great uncles, cousins, step-aunts, step-uncles, and numerous friends.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his great grandparents Mark and Carolyn Nuss, Rosemary Moore, Jack and Helen Burroughs, and Kenneth and Mary Lou Wagner Sr.&nbsp;

The funeral service for Jack will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, August 12, at Lunning Chapel with Judy Ann Morse officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, August 11 at Lunning Chapel with the family receiving friends from 5 to 8 p.m.&nbsp;

Kelly Jean Jeffers, 58, of Burlington died Saturday, August 6, 2022 at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington,&nbsp;

Born May 29, 1964 in Burlington she was the daughter of Charles and Jean Enhorning. She attended Sunnyside Baptist church.&nbsp;

Kelly graduated from Burlington High School in 1983 and attended Bill Hill School of Cosmetology.&nbsp;

On December 21, 2001, Kelly married Billy Ray Jeffers in Burlington.&nbsp;

Kelly was a hairstylist and she was a taxi cab driver for A to Z in Burlington. She collected dolls and loved her dog, Angel. Kelly played bingo and she enjoyed going to races at 34 Raceway. She was a Dale Ernhardt Jr. fan.&nbsp;

Survivors include her husband; mother, Jean; sister, Michelle Bartels of Rushville, Ill., brother, Corey Enhorning of Burlington; two nephews Brandon Enhorning and Marty Scott; two nieces Kristina Scott and Trista Scott and aunt Beverly Felland of Burlington.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her grandparents and father; brother Michael David.&nbsp;

Per her wishes, cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.&nbsp;

There will be no services at this time. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.&nbsp;

Robert James Pratt, 25, of Burlington, died Wednesday, August 3, 2022.

Born May 2, 1997, in Burlington, IA, he was the son of Eugene and Dorothy K. Pratt Beliel.

Rob was a graduate of Burlington High School. While in high school he took many shop and welding classes and learned he had an affinity for welding.&nbsp;

Rob's first job was working&nbsp;for Taco Bell and later Domino's. He had&nbsp;changed his line of work and had been working as a Security Officer at the Fertilizer Plant in Wever.

He was a country kid and enjoyed fishing. He was an avid gamer and played&nbsp;many online games including World of Warcraft, and he collected many of the swords from the games.

Survivors include his parents, Eugene and Dorothy of Burlington; his siblings, Sara&nbsp;and Zachary Beliel of Burlington; and two uncles, Chris and&nbsp;Matt Pratt both of Burlington.

Robert was preceded in death by his grandparents, and by his sister, Kaitlyn Pratt.

The memorial service for Rob will be 1 p.m. Friday, August 12, at First Church of the Nazarene.

A memorial has been established for his family.

Robert Pratt

Doyle Hoyer&nbsp;passed away peacefully on August 6, 2022, in the company of his family.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was welcomed into eternity by his beloved wife, Bert, and countless family and friends gone before.&nbsp;&nbsp;Doyle touched the lives of so many with his gracious smile, extended hand, and contagious laugh.&nbsp;&nbsp;To say he will be missed is an understatement.

Doyle was born in Fort Madison, Iowa on April 1, 1936.&nbsp;&nbsp;Throughout his 86 years he enjoyed many jokes and tricks with family and friends for being born on April Fool’s Day!&nbsp;&nbsp;It was a source of fun and games coupled with some goodhearted laughter and teasing as we celebrated Doyle’s landmark birthday every year!&nbsp;&nbsp;His parents were Willis and Viola (Grossenkemper) Hoyer who enjoyed their entire lives in Fort Madison.&nbsp;&nbsp;Willis was an only child who worked as a laborer at Crandon Paper Mill on the riverfront.&nbsp;&nbsp;Viola was a homemaker who helped with alterations at Glasgow’s in her later years.&nbsp;&nbsp;Doyle cherished his little sister and only sibling, Connie (Hoyer) Barnes, founder of Fort Madison’s Under the Sun, who predeceased him several years ago. Doyle graduated from Catholic Central High School in Fort Madison.

Ever the musician, Doyle started the Doyle Hoyer Orchestra in high school, playing dances, weddings, and parties for the next twenty years!&nbsp;&nbsp;He played tenor sax, sang lead vocal, and always knew how to get the party started!&nbsp;&nbsp;Many couples throughout Southeast Iowa remember Doyle singing the first song on their wedding night!&nbsp;&nbsp;He played as many as three or four nights each week until he retired from performing in 1970.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The fairytale story of Doyle and Bert began in 1956.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was the leader of the band, and she was the sweetheart of the dance!&nbsp;&nbsp;It was love at first sight!&nbsp;&nbsp;Their engagement followed shortly thereafter on Christmas Eve night in Riverview Park.&nbsp;&nbsp;They married on June 29, 1957, and headed for Colorado with a handful of dollars in a 1954 Olds that drank oil.&nbsp;&nbsp;He kept an extra case of oil in the trunk to add as needed along the way.&nbsp;&nbsp;It was a grand time indeed.&nbsp;

Doyle and Bert made their home in Fort Madison in a small trailer parked in his parent’s backyard.&nbsp;&nbsp;Gary arrived in 1958, the first grandchild on either side of the families.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Soon they moved across the street to their first home where they remained for over 16 years.&nbsp;&nbsp;Jeanne (Hoyer) Deery appeared on the scene in 1961.&nbsp;&nbsp;Jan (Hoyer) Randolph joined in 1969.&nbsp;&nbsp;Life was good!

Doyle worked three jobs during the early years.&nbsp;&nbsp;He started at Glasgow’s Clothing Store just after high school, giving up a job as a butcher at Greenwald’s Grocery.&nbsp;&nbsp;When he was not playing in the band, he worked door-to-door selling mutual funds most evenings.&nbsp;&nbsp;In 1965, he purchased 20% of Glasgow’s from good friend Charley Zimmerman and acquired the remaining 80% in 1968.&nbsp;&nbsp;Doyle and Bert owned Glasgow’s for the next 33 years, with Jeanne and Jan joining them after college graduation. Glasgow’s was the center of his world and a mainstay of downtown Fort Madison.&nbsp;&nbsp;He carried the coveted brands of the day, including Johnny Carson, Hart Schaffner &amp; Marx, Jack Nicholas, Levi’s, Ralph Lauren Polo, Tommy Hilfiger, and countless others.&nbsp;&nbsp;He helped create a centralized buyer’s group for men’s retailers throughout the Midwest and sought out new markets as he began a women’s and men’s retail and wholesale fur coat business.&nbsp;&nbsp;Doyle loved his customers and his customers loved him!&nbsp;&nbsp;The best part of the business was that the whole family worked together hand in hand in all aspects of the retail clothing scene.&nbsp;&nbsp;Doyle’s friendly hello and easy demeanor were legendary, and Fort Madison remained for over 50 years the source of great suits, slacks, furs, and warm welcomes.&nbsp;&nbsp;Every customer would walk away convinced that they needed at least one extra tie!&nbsp;&nbsp;Doyle’s natural sales ability was used as an example in several of his dear friend Zig Ziglar’s many best-selling books about the art of selling to achieve success in business and life.&nbsp;

In 1977 Doyle and his pal Jim Baier purchased Iowa State Bank in Fort Madison. It was a business venture that started an incredible friendship and partnership for decades to come.&nbsp;&nbsp;Doyle and Jim soon sold Iowa State Bank and purchased Fort Madison Bank &amp; Trust Co. the very next day.&nbsp;&nbsp;Now known as Connection Bank, Doyle and Jim grew their banking business beyond the borders of Fort Madison, where the business now also operates in Burlington, Keokuk, and Montrose.&nbsp;&nbsp;Doyle and Jim remained loyal not only to each other but to their many customers and employees.&nbsp;&nbsp;Even in this day of contracts and fine print, Doyle and Jim never signed a partnership agreement and they never had an argument.&nbsp;&nbsp;The banking business for both families was founded on handshakes and mutual respect.&nbsp;&nbsp;Doyle lost his best friend Jim just ten months ago, but their joint legacy and partnership will continue forever.&nbsp;

Through the years, family has been the key to life in the Hoyer home.&nbsp;&nbsp;Strong family values have been the very fiber of day-to-day life.&nbsp;&nbsp;How rare it is to be able to have your parents as your best friends?&nbsp;&nbsp;Bert and Doyle enjoyed cheering on the Fighting Irish with Gary at Notre Dame and beamed with pride as Jeanne and Jan were both crowned Miss Iowa USA.&nbsp;&nbsp;The entire family traveled together to root for them at both national Miss USA pageants! Those bonds of strength through family drew all three of Doyle’s children back home to Fort Madison so that their children could experience the warmth, strength, and encouragement of a truly close and loving family. The example was set by Doyle and Bert and continues uninterrupted.&nbsp;

The highlight of Doyle’s life can be found in the smiles of his ten grandgirls!&nbsp;&nbsp;They have been his life and inspiration.&nbsp;&nbsp;He cherished every minute with each of them, always asking about their plans, their ambitions, and their boyfriends!&nbsp;&nbsp;He was so proud, so interested, and so very engaged in their many triumphs.&nbsp;&nbsp;The grandgirls were indescribably special to the very depth of his soul.&nbsp;&nbsp;Lynn and the two Brads were never in-laws, they were always family to Doyle.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

&nbsp;Doyle loved family vacation trips to the Ozarks, his Nauvoo cabin, and his boats that zipped around the mighty Mississippi.&nbsp;&nbsp;Those great adventures were the foundation of the countless stories of fun times.&nbsp;&nbsp;It did not matter where we found ourselves, as long as the family was together.&nbsp;

Doyle lost Bert to cancer in 2001 after a monumental battle.&nbsp;&nbsp;It was the end of a great love affair, a true partnership in business and life.&nbsp;&nbsp;While cancer can often destroy families, it became a source of strength for the Hoyer’s. Family bonds grew stronger guided by examples of love, faith in God, and deep caring for one another.&nbsp;&nbsp;So much of Bert’s life continued through Doyle and has been passed on to the grandgirls and their families.

Another great highlight of a life well-lived occurred when Doyle’s longtime friend Fr. Bob Spiegel arranged a visit to the Vatican.&nbsp;&nbsp;Doyle found himself and his great friend Joe Simmons holding the hand of Pope John Paul II in his private chapel. This moment was followed by an overnight stay in the Vatican’s Cardinal College residence that is typically reserved for traveling Cardinals and Bishops.&nbsp;&nbsp;Doyle was truly moved by the Holy Spirit as he felt the warmth and tranquility of Pope Saint John Paul the Great&nbsp;who was canonized&nbsp;to sainthood in 2014.&nbsp;&nbsp;His papal visit gave new hope and vitality in Doyle’s life shortly following the death of his beloved Bert.&nbsp;&nbsp;Throughout his life Doyle enjoyed the loyal friendship of numerous priests, particularly lifelong friends Fr. Bob Spiegel, Fr. Tom Spiegel, and Fr. John Spiegel.&nbsp;

Doyle was blessed with another great love in his life.&nbsp;&nbsp;Kay McGushin was welcomed into the family nearly twenty years ago.&nbsp;&nbsp;With many great travels and fun times together, she has been Doyle’s strength and steadfast companion.&nbsp;&nbsp;Our truly wonderful, caring, and loving Kay will always be part of the family. Kay has loved each of the grandgirls as her own and she has been a tremendous example of kindness, patience, and love for almost two decades.&nbsp;&nbsp;Doyle’s biggest and best smiles were watching Kay cut a rug on the dance floor even if he was just watching from the sidelines!&nbsp;

&nbsp;Doyle was ever-generous to his community, always eager to share his time, talents, and treasure.&nbsp;&nbsp;He has been a major benefactor to countless causes, either as a leader or anonymously from the sidelines.&nbsp;&nbsp;He served on countless boards and organizations, usually in a leadership position.&nbsp;&nbsp;For years he was involved with the Chamber, Community Club, Downtown Merchants, Fort Madison Economic Development, the local Catholic schools, Knights of Columbus, Jaycees, YMCA, RecPlex, and more recently the Marina and Pickleball court projects in Fort Madison.&nbsp;

&nbsp;In 1993, Doyle, his son Gary, and Randy Winegard started conversations about bringing a riverboat back to Fort Madison.&nbsp;&nbsp;Soon the Catfish Bend organization was seeking investors, with its grand opening in November 1994.&nbsp;&nbsp;Doyle became one of the founding members of Catfish Bend and has served on the Boards of Directors of Catfish Bend Casino, Great River Entertainment, Grand River Jackpot, Washington County Casino Resort, Elite Casino Resorts, and Riverside Casino &amp; Golf Resort.&nbsp;

Doyle also served as a board member, holding various officer positions over the years, for Iowa State Bank, Lee County Bank, Fort Madison Bank &amp; Trust Co., Connection Bank, Connection Insurance, and Fort Madison Financial Co.&nbsp;&nbsp;

 </figure>Doyle Hoyer&nbsp;passed away peacefully on August 6, 2022, in the company of his family.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was welcomed into eternity by his beloved wife, Bert, and countless family and friends gone before.&nbsp;&nbsp;Doyle touched the lives of so many with his gracious smile, extended hand, and contagious laugh.&nbsp;&nbsp;To say he will be missed is an understatement.Doyle was born in Fort Madison, Iowa on April 1, 1936.&nbsp;&nbsp;Throughout his 86 years he enjoyed many jokes and tricks with family and friends for being born on April Fool’s Day!&nbsp;&nbsp;It was a source of fun and games coupled with some goodhearted laughter and teasing as we celebrated Doyle’s landmark birthday every year!&nbsp;&nbsp;His parents were Willis and Viola (Grossenkemper) Hoyer who enjoyed their entire lives in Fort Madison.&nbsp;&nbsp;Willis was an only child who worked as a laborer at Crandon Paper Mill on the riverfront.&nbsp;&nbsp;Viola was a homemaker who helped with alterations at Glasgow’s in her later years.&nbsp;&nbsp;Doyle cherished his little sister and only sibling, Connie (Hoyer) Barnes, founder of Fort Madison’s Under the Sun, who predeceased him several years ago. Doyle graduated from Catholic Central High School in Fort Madison.Ever the musician, Doyle started the Doyle Hoyer Orchestra in high school, playing dances, weddings, and parties for the next twenty years!&nbsp;&nbsp;He played tenor sax, sang lead vocal, and always knew how to get the party started!&nbsp;&nbsp;Many couples throughout Southeast Iowa remember Doyle singing the first song on their wedding night!&nbsp;&nbsp;He played as many as three or four nights each week until he retired from performing in 1970.&nbsp;&nbsp;The fairytale story of Doyle and Bert began in 1956.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was the leader of the band, and she was the sweetheart of the dance!&nbsp;&nbsp;It was love at first sight!&nbsp;&nbsp;Their engagement followed shortly thereafter on Christmas Eve night in Riverview Park.&nbsp;&nbsp;They married on June 29, 1957, and headed for Colorado with a handful of dollars in a 1954 Olds that drank oil.&nbsp;&nbsp;He kept an extra case of oil in the trunk to add as needed along the way.&nbsp;&nbsp;It was a grand time indeed.&nbsp;Doyle and Bert made their home in Fort Madison in a small trailer parked in his parent’s backyard.&nbsp;&nbsp;Gary arrived in 1958, the first grandchild on either side of the families.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Soon they moved across the street to their first home where they remained for over 16 years.&nbsp;&nbsp;Jeanne (Hoyer) Deery appeared on the scene in 1961.&nbsp;&nbsp;Jan (Hoyer) Randolph joined in 1969.&nbsp;&nbsp;Life was good!Doyle worked three jobs during the early years.&nbsp;&nbsp;He started at Glasgow’s Clothing Store just after high school, giving up a job as a butcher at Greenwald’s Grocery.&nbsp;&nbsp;When he was not playing in the band, he worked door-to-door selling mutual funds most evenings.&nbsp;&nbsp;In 1965, he purchased 20% of Glasgow’s from good friend Charley Zimmerman and acquired the remaining 80% in 1968.&nbsp;&nbsp;Doyle and Bert owned Glasgow’s for the next 33 years, with Jeanne and Jan joining them after college graduation. Glasgow’s was the center of his world and a mainstay of downtown Fort Madison.&nbsp;&nbsp;He carried the coveted brands of the day, including Johnny Carson, Hart Schaffner &amp; Marx, Jack Nicholas, Levi’s, Ralph Lauren Polo, Tommy Hilfiger, and countless others.&nbsp;&nbsp;He helped create a centralized buyer’s group for men’s retailers throughout the Midwest and sought out new markets as he began a women’s and men’s retail and wholesale fur coat business.&nbsp;&nbsp;Doyle loved his customers and his customers loved him!&nbsp;&nbsp;The best part of the business was that the whole family worked together hand in hand in all aspects of the retail clothing scene.&nbsp;&nbsp;Doyle’s friendly hello and easy demeanor were legendary, and Fort Madison remained for over 50 years the source of great suits, slacks, furs, and warm welcomes.&nbsp;&nbsp;Every customer would walk away convinced that they needed at least one extra tie!&nbsp;&nbsp;Doyle’s natural sales ability was used as an example in several of his dear friend Zig Ziglar’s many best-selling books about the art of selling to achieve success in business and life.&nbsp;In 1977 Doyle and his pal Jim Baier purchased Iowa State Bank in Fort Madison. It was a business venture that started an incredible friendship and partnership for decades to come.&nbsp;&nbsp;Doyle and Jim soon sold Iowa State Bank and purchased Fort Madison Bank &amp; Trust Co. the very next day.&nbsp;&nbsp;Now known as Connection Bank, Doyle and Jim grew their banking business beyond the borders of Fort Madison, where the business now also operates in Burlington, Keokuk, and Montrose.&nbsp;&nbsp;Doyle and Jim remained loyal not only to each other but to their many customers and employees.&nbsp;&nbsp;Even in this day of contracts and fine print, Doyle and Jim never signed a partnership agreement and they never had an argument.&nbsp;&nbsp;The banking business for both families was founded on handshakes and mutual respect.&nbsp;&nbsp;Doyle lost his best friend Jim just ten months ago, but their joint legacy and partnership will continue forever.&nbsp;Through the years, family has been the key to life in the Hoyer home.&nbsp;&nbsp;Strong family values have been the very fiber of day-to-day life.&nbsp;&nbsp;How rare it is to be able to have your parents as your best friends?&nbsp;&nbsp;Bert and Doyle enjoyed cheering on the Fighting Irish with Gary at Notre Dame and beamed with pride as Jeanne and Jan were both crowned Miss Iowa USA.&nbsp;&nbsp;The entire family traveled together to root for them at both national Miss USA pageants! Those bonds of strength through family drew all three of Doyle’s children back home to Fort Madison so that their children could experience the warmth, strength, and encouragement of a truly close and loving family. The example was set by Doyle and Bert and continues uninterrupted.&nbsp;The highlight of Doyle’s life can be found in the smiles of his ten grandgirls!&nbsp;&nbsp;They have been his life and inspiration.&nbsp;&nbsp;He cherished every minute with each of them, always asking about their plans, their ambitions, and their boyfriends!&nbsp;&nbsp;He was so proud, so interested, and so very engaged in their many triumphs.&nbsp;&nbsp;The grandgirls were indescribably special to the very depth of his soul.&nbsp;&nbsp;Lynn and the two Brads were never in-laws, they were always family to Doyle.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Doyle loved family vacation trips to the Ozarks, his Nauvoo cabin, and his boats that zipped around the mighty Mississippi.&nbsp;&nbsp;Those great adventures were the foundation of the countless stories of fun times.&nbsp;&nbsp;It did not matter where we found ourselves, as long as the family was together.&nbsp;Doyle lost Bert to cancer in 2001 after a monumental battle.&nbsp;&nbsp;It was the end of a great love affair, a true partnership in business and life.&nbsp;&nbsp;While cancer can often destroy families, it became a source of strength for the Hoyer’s. Family bonds grew stronger guided by examples of love, faith in God, and deep caring for one another.&nbsp;&nbsp;So much of Bert’s life continued through Doyle and has been passed on to the grandgirls and their families.Another great highlight of a life well-lived occurred when Doyle’s longtime friend Fr. Bob Spiegel arranged a visit to the Vatican.&nbsp;&nbsp;Doyle found himself and his great friend Joe Simmons holding the hand of Pope John Paul II in his private chapel. This moment was followed by an overnight stay in the Vatican’s Cardinal College residence that is typically reserved for traveling Cardinals and Bishops.&nbsp;&nbsp;Doyle was truly moved by the Holy Spirit as he felt the warmth and tranquility of Pope Saint John Paul the Great&nbsp;who was canonized&nbsp;to sainthood in 2014.&nbsp;&nbsp;His papal visit gave new hope and vitality in Doyle’s life shortly following the death of his beloved Bert.&nbsp;&nbsp;Throughout his life Doyle enjoyed the loyal friendship of numerous priests, particularly lifelong friends Fr. Bob Spiegel, Fr. Tom Spiegel, and Fr. John Spiegel.&nbsp;Doyle was blessed with another great love in his life.&nbsp;&nbsp;Kay McGushin was welcomed into the family nearly twenty years ago.&nbsp;&nbsp;With many great travels and fun times together, she has been Doyle’s strength and steadfast companion.&nbsp;&nbsp;Our truly wonderful, caring, and loving Kay will always be part of the family. Kay has loved each of the grandgirls as her own and she has been a tremendous example of kindness, patience, and love for almost two decades.&nbsp;&nbsp;Doyle’s biggest and best smiles were watching Kay cut a rug on the dance floor even if he was just watching from the sidelines!&nbsp;&nbsp;Doyle was ever-generous to his community, always eager to share his time, talents, and treasure.&nbsp;&nbsp;He has been a major benefactor to countless causes, either as a leader or anonymously from the sidelines.&nbsp;&nbsp;He served on countless boards and organizations, usually in a leadership position.&nbsp;&nbsp;For years he was involved with the Chamber, Community Club, Downtown Merchants, Fort Madison Economic Development, the local Catholic schools, Knights of Columbus, Jaycees, YMCA, RecPlex, and more recently the Marina and Pickleball court projects in Fort Madison.&nbsp;&nbsp;In 1993, Doyle, his son Gary, and Randy Winegard started conversations about bringing a riverboat back to Fort Madison.&nbsp;&nbsp;Soon the Catfish Bend organization was seeking investors, with its grand opening in November 1994.&nbsp;&nbsp;Doyle became one of the founding members of Catfish Bend and has served on the Boards of Directors of Catfish Bend Casino, Great River Entertainment, Grand River Jackpot, Washington County Casino Resort, Elite Casino Resorts, and Riverside Casino &amp; Golf Resort.&nbsp;Doyle also served as a board member, holding various officer positions over the years, for Iowa State Bank, Lee County Bank, Fort Madison Bank &amp; Trust Co., Connection Bank, Connection Insurance, and Fort Madison Financial Co.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Doyle is survived by his special friend and partner, Kay McGushin, together with his three children, Gary (Lynn) Hoyer, Jeanne (Brad) Hoyer Deery, Jan (Brad) Hoyer Randolph, grandgirls Dominique (Brad) Deery Jones, Bridget Deery (&amp; fiancé Matt DiVerde), Katherine Colby Hoyer,&nbsp;Hannah Grace Deery, Caroline&nbsp;“Carly” Hoyer (&amp; fiancé Michael Vaiarella), Alyse “Ali” Randolph, Eve Elyse Hoyer Deery, Kassidy Randolph, Gabriella Deery, and Natalie Randolph, and several nieces, nephews, and their families.&nbsp;&nbsp;Also surviving are honorary children and grandchildren Kelli (Ray) McGushin Civello, Kevin McGushin, Floria Tosca Kerekes, Tatum McGushin, Corrado McGushin Civello.&nbsp;&nbsp;Doyle is also survived by brother-in-law Ron Barnes and sisters-in-law Bernadette (Bud) Bremhorst Flesher, Janice Bremhorst, and Linda Bremhorst.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife, Bertha “Bert” Bremhorst Hoyer, sister Connie Hoyer Barnes, brothers-in-law Bernard Bremhorst and David Bremhorst, sister-in-law Sandra Bremhorst, and his honorary brothers Jim Baier and Leo Perry, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Doyle made his mark on his family, his friends, and his community!&nbsp;&nbsp;It was a life well-lived filled with joy and love.&nbsp;&nbsp;Doyle contributed in countless ways.&nbsp;&nbsp;He paid attention to people and was a friend with an easy smile that made everyone feel important and valued.&nbsp;&nbsp;Life was always celebrated with laughter and fun.&nbsp;&nbsp;Hard work came naturally, and devotion to his faith was a constant ingredient in his daily life. Doyle always made time to show every employee, friend, relative, child, and grandchild that he loved them. He will forever be remembered for his kindness, empathy, and caring soul.&nbsp;&nbsp;If everyone whose life he touched joined together with a candle in hand, the brightness of his impact would rival the sun.A visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 11, 2022, at Ss. Mary &amp; Joseph Church in Fort Madison. The funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 12, 2022, at Ss. Mary &amp; Joseph Church with Revs. Robert, Thomas &amp; John Spiegel officiating. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery in Fort Madison. A luncheon will be provided following the funeral mass and burial at McAleer Hall, right across the street from the church. A memorial has been established in Doyle’s memory.
