Sharon Kay Luetger, 80, of Lomax, Illinois, passed away at 11:08 a.m. Friday, April 19, 2024, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.

Sharon was born July 16, 1943 in Burlington, the daughter of Elmer and Irvil (Hoskins) Sly. She married Gary Lee Luetger. They later divorced. She is survived by her longtime companion, Maurice Stambaugh.&nbsp;

Sharon was raised in the Burlington area. She worked for IAAP in Middletown, Iowa for many years. She later tended bar in Burlington, as well as raising hogs. She enjoyed working and providing for her family. She also enjoyed cats, gardening, watching hummingbirds and spending time with family.&nbsp;

Besides her longtime companion, Maurice Stambaugh, survivors include three children: Kent (Melissa) Luetger of Biggsville, Ill., Rodney Luetger of Lomax and Wendolen (Brad) Scott of Gibson City, Ill.; nine grandchildren: Amie Abbot, Eric Luetger, Brad Bell, James Andries, Emily Andries, Nicholas Andries, Sierra Newman, Spring Botimer and Ashlynn Botimer; 21 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews, including a special niece: Marti Trosen.

She was preceded in death by seven siblings: Erma, Albert, Glen, Betty, Marge, Gerald and Audrey and one daughter-in-law: Terri Lynn Luetger.&nbsp;

A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 24, 2024 at Crane Cemetery, near Lomax, Ill. with Clarence Waldinger officiating.&nbsp;

Sharon Luetger

Juanita May Boyle, 96, of Burlington, died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2024, at the OakView Nursing Home and Rehabilitation in Burlington.

Born May 2, 1927, in Mount Pleasant, she was the daughter of Andrew &nbsp;and Alma R. Wilson Boyd. On May 19, 1947, she married Thomas Frederic &nbsp;in West Burlington. He died May 27, 2014.

Juanita worked for 32 years as a Nursing Assistant for Mercy Hospital, Burlington Medical Center, and the Klein Center.

Juanita was a member of Divine Mercy Parish. She was known for her love of gardening, &nbsp;and yard work. She always made sure that her yard was looking impeccable. Juanita had a love for traveling. She had been to many places including weekends in The Ozarks, Florida, Las Vegas, Hawaii, Bahamas, and five NASCAR Races. Juanita was also known to be a sports fan cheering on the Green Bay Packers, and the Cardinals. When she was not cheering on her favorite sports teams, she was always up for a good shopping trip. What she loved most of all was spending time with her family. She always looked forward to the annual family vacation and family gatherings.

Survivors include son, Philip Boyle and Paula of West Burlington, daughter, Cecilia (Darrell) Clevidence of Galesburg, Ill., granddaughter, Martha (Andy) Goodman of Galesburg, Ill., granddaughter, Margaret Strean and David of &nbsp;East Galesburg, Ill.; six great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, both parents, two sisters and two brothers. As per Juanita's wishes, cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory. No visitation will be held.

A graveside inurnment will be held Thursday, May 2, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Aspen Grove Cemetery, with Fr. Jake Greiner Officiating. A time of food and fellowship will follow at The Drake.

A memorial has been established for St. Vincent dePaul Food Pantry and the Des Moines County Humane Society.

Dana L. Weiss, 88, of West Burlington, died Saturday, April 20, 2024, at the OakView Nursing Home and Rehabilitation in Burlington.

Born Feb. 14, 1936, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Benjamin N. and Esther Deitsch Wagler. On May 7, 1955, she married James Edward Weiss in St. John's Church in Burlington. He died on Dec. 31, 2019.

Dana's most important job was being a homemaker and mother. She also worked for H&amp;R Block, Younkers and the Burlington Welcome Center.&nbsp;

She was a member of Divine Mercy Parish and was a part of the alter and rosary society. Dana enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing, mushroom hunting and gardening. She enjoyed playing cards with her ladies. Most of all, Dana loved to spend time with her family.&nbsp;

Survivors include two sons, Bradley (Juli) Weiss and Brian David Weiss; daughter, Laura (Randy) Ferguson; seven grandchildren, Melissa Weiss, Kyle Rex Boyer, Benjamin (Maegan) Weiss, Alison (Andrew) Price, Rachel Dannies Weiss, James "Blake" Cary, and Justin Weiss; several great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren; one brother, Paul Wagler; sister, Karen Schemmel and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Mark Weiss, one daughter-in-law, Earlene Weiss, one brother, William (Marjorie) Wagler, one sister, Phyllis (Ralph) White, brother-in-law, Jim Schemmel, sister-in-law, Wendy Wagler, and two great-grandchildren, Clayton Connelly and Aurianna Lloyd.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

Visitation with the family to receive friends will be from 10 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 25, 2024, at Divine Mercy Parish-SS. Mary and Patrick Catholic Church, West Burlington.

Angelo Doud, 78, of Burlington, died Saturday, April 20, 2024, at Azria Health, Prairie Ridge Care Center in Mediapolis.

Born Jan. 7, 1946, in Foggia, Italy, he was the son of Charles “Ralph” and Maria Doud. He graduated from Keosauqua High School and served in the Air Force.

He married Rhonda Bartsch on Aug. 7, 1983, in Lowell.

Angelo was a self-employed musician and upholsterer. He was inducted in the Iowa Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2017.

He is survived by his wife, Rhonda Doud of Burlington; three daughters, Megan Feenstra of Burlington, Brittany Prill of West Burlington and Natalee Doud of New London; seven grandchildren, Ali Prill, Presley Prill, Pailyn Prill, Porter Prill, Cayden Scheetz, Bennett Higdon and Holland Mangels; great-grandson Kallum Bollinger and sister Donna DeJaynes of Gladstone, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Tony and niece Samara.

Cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Sharon “Kay” Parrott, 72, of Burlington, died Sunday, April 21, 2024, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born July 11, 1951, in Burlington, she was the daughter of William “Billy” and Virginia Smelser.

She married the love of her life Richard E. “Rick” Parrott Jr. on July 12, 1969 in Burlington. Together they celebrated 54 years of marriage. He preceded her in death on Nov. 9, 2023.

In her younger years, Sharon worked at Van’s Lunch Box. After her marriage she became a stay-at-home mom. She enjoyed going to the casino, playing bingo and anything ladybugs and cardinals. Her priority and joy in life was always her family and she loved spending time with her grandkids and great grandkids.

She is survived by her three children; Kim Parrott, Richard E. “Rick” Parrott III and William “Bill” Parrott; six grandchildren, Tyler Parrott, Haley (Austin) Latcham, Trace Parrott, Lexi (Brandon) Crawley, Blake Reusch and Savannah Parrott; two great grandchildren, Ellie Latcham and Kye Crawley; siblings; Ronnie Smelser, Dwane (Pat) Savage and Julie Peterson and her aunt Sandra (Marvin) Messler.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

According to her wishes, cremation has been entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel. There will be no services at this time.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in her memory for the Special Needs Foundation.

Sandra Lorraine "Sandie" Bannier, 76, of West Burlington, died Monday, April 15, 2024, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born Sept. 22, 1947, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Jack and Lois Melvin Ramey. She met William Elliot Bannier square dancing and they married a few years later on Dec. 5, 1980 in Pleasant Grove Church.&nbsp;

She was graduate of West Burlington High School and later became a Registered Nurse.&nbsp;

Sandie knew from a young age that she wanted to be a nurse. She pursued her passion and became a nurse working in Georgia, St. Francis, and later at Wapello Care Center.

She was a member of Faith Christian Outreach Church in Mount Pleasant. She was a part of the prayer warriors and her faith was very important to her. She enjoyed reading and watching shows like; Little House on the Prairie, Waltons, Touched by an Angel, and any kind of mystery show. She will be remembered as being caring and compassionate as well as her distinctive laugh.

Survivors include her husband, William Bannier of West Burlington; daughter, Rachel (Brant) Wells of Georgia; step-son, William (Marla) Bannier of Mount Pleasant; grandson, Ethan; step-granddaughter Amanda; three brothers, Ray (Karen) Ramey of East Providence, R.I., Roy (Billie) Ramey of Clinton, Utah, and Randy (Hilda) Ramey of Plainfield, Ill.

She was preceded in death by her parents and step-son, Matthew Elliot Bannier.

Visitation will be from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Monday, April 22, 2024, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.

Patricia Ann King, 62, of New London, died Tuesday, April 16, 2024 at her home.

Born Sept. 10, 1961 in Los Angeles, Calif., she was the daughter of James King and Alice Ruth Haugejord.

Patricia was a member of New London Christian Church. She married Patrick Chancellor. They later divorced.

She was a Certified Nurse Assistant and enjoyed caring for others and bringing joy to everyone. She loved spending time with her family.

Patricia Ann King

Trish Ditsworth, 83, of West Burlington, died Thursday, April 11, 2024 at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center.

Born Feb. 21, 1941 in Burlington, she was the daughter of John Everett and Alta Beatrice Walker Erickson.

She attended middle school in Burlington and graduated from Humbolt High School in Iowa. She married Thomas Alvin Ditsworth in 1962.

Trish was a homemaker. She also drove cars for auto auctions. She retired after 10 years as a trucking dispatcher.

Trish was a member of Parkside First Baptist Church for 14 years. She enjoyed photography and was a member of the shutterbug camera club. She enjoyed birding, playing cards and games with friends and was a farmgirl at heart.

Survivors include her husband of Burlington; one son Darrin Ditsworth of Burlington; one grandson Jacob Ditsworth of Burlington and best friend Sarah Bissell of West Burlington.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

The memorial service for Trish will be 11 a.m., Saturday, April 20 at Parkside First Baptist Church with the Reverend Joe Terranella officiating. Family will receive friends an hour before the service. Inurnment will be at 2 p.m. in Burge Cemetery, New London.

Per her wishes cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.

Megan Lee Lamb Reynolds, 36, of Burlington, died Thursday, April 11, 2024 at the University of Iowa Hospital.

Born February 21, 1988 in Monmouth, Ill., she was the daughter of Larry Lee Lamb and Lyla Joann Huss. She was of the Baptist faith.

Megan graduated from Burlington High School and earned her associates degree in Criminal Justice from Southeastern Community College.

On June 18, 2016, Megan married Eric Shane Reynolds. They later divorced.

Megan lately had worked in the service center and bakery of HyVee and managed the Family Dollar store. She enjoyed her flower garden, bike riding, walking her dog, music, mushroom hunting, taking care of other people and making sure they were fed. She had a big heart and she loved spending time with her family and her kids.

Survivors include her children Dylan Reynolds, Andrea Reynolds and Rayna Reynolds all of Burlington; her mother, Lyla (Tim Schaefer) Huss of Burlington, nieces and nephews Kaydence Reynolds, Daulton Reynolds, Bentley Garrels, Owen Reynolds, Sausha Lamb and Reygun Reynolds; sister Mickie Huss of Burlington; brothers Daniel (Courtney) Reynolds of Burlington and Steven Lamb of Mediapolis; friend, Charles W. Stevens, Jr.

She was preceded in death by her father and grandparents.

The memorial visitation for Megan will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 17 at Lunning Chapel, with a gathering at The Moose following the visitation.

Betty E. Swafford, 78, of Burlington, died Saturday, April 6, 2024, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born May 7, 1945, in Atascadero, Calif., she was the daughter of John Everett and Ines Velma McKelvey Brown.&nbsp;

Betty worked for Champion Spark Plug and retired after 31 years of service.

Betty was a very active member and officer of the UAW, Local 1237. She enjoyed traveling, especially to Naples, Fla. to visit her daughter. She was her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren's biggest cheerleader, never missing their sporting or school events. Betty loved gardening and watching her hummingbirds, going to the movies and theater, reading, going out to eat, and visiting with her friends whom she called family.

Survivors include son, Jeff (Lisa) Sisco of Mediapolis, daughter, Jeanette Sisco of Naples, Fla., daughter, Denice (David) Ertz of Burlington, grandchildren, Melissa (Justin) Kramer, Bryan (Audra) Spears, Sarah Roed, Lydia (Zach) Gatton, Samantha (Davis) Lowenberg, Jesse Ertz, Shannon (Jordan) Mohr and Kelli (Jacob) Scheitlin, 13 great-grandchildren, brother, Terry (Eileen) Brown of Calif., sister, Carol (Ron Jacobs) Brown of Denver, Colo., sister, Norma Jean Bonifay of Kalona, and several nieces and nephews.

Born April 4, 1932, in Burlington, he was the son of Derby D. and Dorothy M. Wilson Thompson. On Sept. 15, 1956, he married Shirley J Brown in Colesburg. He graduated from Burlington High School in 1950, and then attended the University of Iowa. Dal was an aircraft engine mechanic and flight crew member in the Navy during the Korean War, serving from 1951 until 1955. He was the founder of Atlas Warehouse Co., Pak-A-Way Container Service, and Atlas Intermodal Trucking Service. Dal moved to Sun City West, Ariz. in 1999, and later moved back to Burlington in 2018. He enjoyed golfing and was a member and former President of the Burlington Golf Club, member of the First Presbyterian Church, Burlington Rotary Club and a member of the Elks. Survivors include his wife, Shirley J.. Thompson of Burlington; two sons, David D. (Donna) Thompson of Scottsdale, Ariz. and Michael J. (Teresa) Thompson of Galesburg, lll.; four grandchildren, David C. (Jess), Taylor (Vince), Coby, and Jaclyn (Jason); and three great-grandchildren. Roy Smith

Kevin L. Brewer, 62, of Dallas City, Ill., died at 9:54 p.m. Friday, April 5, 2024, at OSF St. Mary’s Medical Center in Galesburg, Ill.

Kevin was born Aug. 10, 1961 in LaHarpe, Ill., the son of Kenneth A. and Betty Howe Brewer. On Feb.&nbsp; 27, 1982 he married Maureen Markey in Carthage, Ill. They later divorced.&nbsp;

Kevin was a 1979 graduate of Dallas City High School. He later enlisted in the U.S. Navy and proudly served on the USS O’Callahan. Following his military service he worked for Waukegan Tire, Waukegan, Ill. and Western Auto, Burlington, before a 25-year career with the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant.&nbsp;

Kevin loved the Dallas City community and took an active role volunteering. He was a past Chief of the Dallas City Fire Department, as well as a volunteer with the Lomax Ambulance Service. He was a member of the Carthage VFW Post #5117 and the Dallas City American Legion Post #297, where he was currently serving as Commander.

Survivors include three sons: Glenn (Melisa) Brewer of Wellington, Illinois, Kevin (Alanda) Brewer of Bristow, Virginia and John (Shawna) Brewer of Wauconda, Ill., six grandchildren: Madison, Bryson, Kaiden, Khloe, Ellie, and Coen; four siblings: Sarah (Ken) Foxall of Macomb, Ill., Ron Brewer of LaHarpe, Donna Brewer of Dallas City and Terry Brewer of Dallas City; one brother-in-law: Tom Maynard of Pontoosuc, Ill. and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister: Melody Maynard; grandparents: Fred and Dorothy Howe and Charles and Sarah Brewer and one sister-in-law: Penny Brewer.&nbsp;

Kevin L. Brewer

R. LaVern Prough , of Fort Madison, died Sunday, April 7, 2024 at his home.&nbsp; He was born in Bucklin, Mo. on March 15, 1940, to Opal Prough, and named for the doctor and nurse that delivered him. He faced immediate challenges as the son of an unwed mother during those difficult times, but overcame all with the love of his mother, his grandmother, Verna, and uncle, Edwin, who helped to raise him. He lived in the very rural area of Elmer, Mo. where he played in “Sand Crick” and was a basketball star in the local school. In 1958, he graduated from LaPlata, Mo. High School and took off to experience a great new world. After living in Chicago for a short time, he moved to Fort Madison to marry the love of his life, Ruth Smutzer on June 1, 1961. Together they raised two daughters, Kim and Debbie, whom he adored until his last breath.&nbsp;

He was a very hard worker and entrepreneur, owning and managing the Fort Madison Ambulance Service, multiple service stations, tow trucks and a convenience store. He proudly served as a Lee County Deputy Sheriff, worked as a lieutenant at the Iowa State Penitentiary and other miscellaneous jobs until his “retirement”. He continued to sell cars and other ite<a></a>ms on eBay and Facebook- for himself as well as his many family members and friends. He was friendly and well known, always had a few good stories to tell and loved to make people laugh. He would do anything for anyone and positively affected the lives of all who were fortunate enough to know him.&nbsp; He loved old country music, especially George Jones, Waylon Jennings and Merle Haggard, and was a great fan of Elvis, having visited Graceland and Branson several times. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Prough on Dec. 1, 2009, his mother, Opal and step-father, Roy Shumaker, and several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.

He is survived by his loving daughters and sons-in-law, Kimberly and Ray Crutcher of Davenport, and Deborah and Doug Bergquist of Fort Madison. He considered himself to be fortunate in later years to connect with another daughter, Melanie Perry of Henderson, Nev. and her family. He also enjoyed the company of his step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, his special friend, Loretta Wardlow and “Woody”, his grand dog. He had many great experiences, overcame unusual challenges, and made innumerable close friendships throughout his lifetime. He was an unforgettable man.

R. LaVern Prough , of Fort Madison, died Sunday, April 7, 2024 at his home.&nbsp; He was born in Bucklin, Mo. on March 15, 1940, to Opal Prough, and named for the doctor and nurse that delivered him. He faced immediate challenges as the son of an unwed mother during those difficult times, but overcame all with the love of his mother, his grandmother, Verna, and uncle, Edwin, who helped to raise him. He lived in the very rural area of Elmer, Mo. where he played in “Sand Crick” and was a basketball star in the local school. In 1958, he graduated from LaPlata, Mo. High School and took off to experience a great new world. After living in Chicago for a short time, he moved to Fort Madison to marry the love of his life, Ruth Smutzer on June 1, 1961. Together they raised two daughters, Kim and Debbie, whom he adored until his last breath.&nbsp;He was a very hard worker and entrepreneur, owning and managing the Fort Madison Ambulance Service, multiple service stations, tow trucks and a convenience store. He proudly served as a Lee County Deputy Sheriff, worked as a lieutenant at the Iowa State Penitentiary and other miscellaneous jobs until his “retirement”. He continued to sell cars and other ite<a></a>ms on eBay and Facebook- for himself as well as his many family members and friends. He was friendly and well known, always had a few good stories to tell and loved to make people laugh. He would do anything for anyone and positively affected the lives of all who were fortunate enough to know him.&nbsp; He loved old country music, especially George Jones, Waylon Jennings and Merle Haggard, and was a great fan of Elvis, having visited Graceland and Branson several times. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Prough on Dec. 1, 2009, his mother, Opal and step-father, Roy Shumaker, and several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.He is survived by his loving daughters and sons-in-law, Kimberly and Ray Crutcher of Davenport, and Deborah and Doug Bergquist of Fort Madison. He considered himself to be fortunate in later years to connect with another daughter, Melanie Perry of Henderson, Nev. and her family. He also enjoyed the company of his step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, his special friend, Loretta Wardlow and “Woody”, his grand dog. He had many great experiences, overcame unusual challenges, and made innumerable close friendships throughout his lifetime. David Alan “Rappy” Rappenecker, 67, of Burlington, died Thursday, April 4, 2024.

Born Jan. 29, 1957, in Burlington, he was the son of Donald and Mildred “Midge” Hallgren Rappenecker. Dave graduated from Burlington High School in 1976 and then completed the Electrical Union Apprenticeship Program. He married Diane Acord on June 9, 1979, welcoming three children before later divorcing. He then married Julie Hayes on Oct. 14, 2017, while loving her family as his.

Dave’s lifelong career as a master electrician started by working with his father at R&amp;R Electric, and later for Champion Spark Plug, and after being self-employed, most recently for Day &amp; Zimmermann for American Ordinance at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant. He loved being on the road on his Harley Davidson or in his sports car. Traveling and taking road trips was never out of the question. Dave was a member of Zion United Church of Christ, I.B.E.W. Local #13, River City Corvette Club, and Harley Owners Group. He was a longtime supporter of the Burlington Bees, he enjoyed attending games and volunteering for the ballpark. His big red truck was often seen at Napoli’s where he was enjoying a meal and greeting friends. Dave enjoyed live theater as well as live music. He was an incredible cook and grill master. Dave loved unconditionally and wholeheartedly.

He could literally fix anything and was very mechanically inclined. His helpful advice was always just a phone call away. Dave took pride in teaching his children his skills and spending time with them. He was very proud of his kids and enjoyed supporting their activities. Watching his grandchildren grow was a favorite pastime.

Survivors include his wife Julie Rappenecker of Burlington; children, Donny (Emilie) Rappenecker of Mediapolis, David (Elizabeth) Rappenecker of Bismarck, North Dakota, Danielle Rappenecker, and Jenny (Zach) Jensen of Knoxville; five grandchildren, James and Abigail Rappenecker, Charlie and Henry Rappenecker, and Hazel Jensen; sister Donna (Harold) Badtram of West Burlington; brother Michael Rappenecker of Burlington; two nephews, Brian and Kevin Klein; and numerous cousins.

The funeral service for Dave will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 13 at Lunning Chapel. Visitation will be Friday, April 12 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends. Burial will be in Edwards Cemetery, rural Oakville.

Memorials have been established for the Players Workshop and the Burlington Bees.

Richard A. “Murph” Murphy, 70, of West Burlington, died Monday, April 8, 2024, at his home.

Born July 28, 1953, in Burlington, he was the son of Richard E. and Celia J. Murphy. He married Martha Runnells and they later divorced. He then married Lorinda Richards. They later divorced.

Murph worked as a heavy equipment operator with IUOE # 150 for many years. He was a member of A.B.A.T.E. District 18.

Murph was undoubtedly the “life of the party” and always at the center of attention, sharing his “true stories”, telling tales and offering his unfiltered best advice, “I guar on tee”. He has left a large void in this world, and will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his two dogs, Harley and Cheyanne; his mother, Celia Murphy; brother Randall Murphy, three sisters, Rhonda Murphy-Doud, Ruth Garrett and Robin Murphy; several nieces and nephews; and his numerous “baby girls”, “baby dolls” and riding brothers.

He was preceded in death by his father and two sons Joel Murphy and Jason Freeman.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, May 31 at the Burlington Eagles #150 beginning at 4 p.m. A memorial has been established.

Francis Eugene “Gene” Snowden, 85, of Burlington, died Friday, April 5, 2024, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born April 24, 1938, in McDowell County, Ill., he was the son of Leroy and Jennie Snowden. He served in the Army for 6-1/2 years.

He married Debra Riherd on May 26, 1984, at First United Church of Christ in Burlington. He was a member of West Avenue Baptist Church.

Gene worked various places throughout his life and retired from Exide Battery after 27 years in 1999. He was the founder of D &amp; G Concessions and served as Worthy President for the Burlington Eagles Aerie #150, as Vice Chairman for the Casebine Credit Union Board and bingo chairperson for the Eagles for many years.

He enjoyed time with family and his Pomeranian “Cinnamon”. He was loved by many.

Survivors include his wife, Debra Snowden; two sons, Brad (Leslie) Snowden and Bruce Snowden; daughter Gina Snowden and several sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews that were like grandchildren to him and aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters.

The funeral service for Gene will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 12 at Lunning Chapel. The Rev. Steven Parker will officiate. The Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard will conduct military rites. Interment will be in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 11 at Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends.

Francis Eugene “Gene” Snowden

Reed Ross Haeger, 78, of West Point, died Friday, April 5, 2024, at Birkwood Village in Fort Madison, surrounded by his family.

Reed was born on July 28, 1945, in Oak Park, Ill., the son of Reed “Ross” Haeger, Sr. and Mary Phelan Haeger. On Aug. 10, 1968, he married Susan Teresa Hanley in Lewistown, Mont. She preceded him in death on Jan. 15, 2024, after fifty-five years of marriage.

As a boy, Reed spent summers at his grandparents home outside of Rhinelander, Wisconsin at Haeger’s Lodge on Lake Thompson. Upon graduation from Fenwick High School in Oak Park, Reed spent a summer on the Whitetail Ranch outside of Missoula, Mont. working as a ranch hand. This experience provided a lifetime of stories and a deep personal connection to the cowboy persona. Reed attended St. Ambrose University in Davenport, Iowa receiving his Bachelor’s Degree in education. Accepting a gift from his father upon graduation, Reed spent three months traveling Europe. Through a college roommate, he learned of and accepted a teaching position at Marquette High School in West Point where he would teach English for nine years. After teaching, Reed dabbled as a restaurateur managing the West Point Knights of Columbus, Donnellson Green Acres Golf Club and as owner/proprietor of Reed’s Pizza in West Point. He finished his full-time working career at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown after twenty years. Reed and Sue purchased the Corner Tap in 1983. In August of 2023, in fine West Point Sweet Corn Festival festive fashion, they celebrated forty years in business.

From area bass fishing tournaments to weekend fishing getaways with Sue, Reed was an avid fisherman. He transitioned from water to land in the game of golf, a pastime passion he renewed with a vengeance. His dedication and knowledge for the game was intense, perhaps even driving a patron or two out of the Corner Tap with his incessant talk of it! His love of reading was evidenced by the many books that went through his hands, thousands and thousands of pages turned. Reed had not only the gift of word crafting, but with those page turning fingers, he would use his woodworking craft to spend hours in his basement making gifts for family and friends, especially his grandkids. Reed was most proud of his family. Four children, thirteen grandchildren, two great grandchildren and counting… Always the teacher, always the storyteller, lighting up at the opportunity to share with them is what he loved best.

Reed is survived by his three daughters: Kathleen “Katie” (Chris) Dailey of Terre Haute, Ind., Jennifer “Jenny” Steffensmeier (Randy Larson) of West Point, Megan (Bill) Kruse of West Point; son: Ross (Erin) Haeger of Burlington; thirteen grandchildren: Daniel Dailey, Jack Dailey, Claire Dailey, Isaac Steffensmeier (Courtney Abolt), Rachel Steffensmeier (Julian Holmes), Sarah (CJ) Richardson, Aaron (Taylor) Steffensmeier, Nathan Steffensmeier (Larissa Ferrill), Elton Kruse (Madelyn Swigart), Owen Kruse (Katie Beach), Emmett Kruse, Liam Haeger and Gordon Haeger; two great-grandchildren: Quincy and Calvin Richardson; three sisters: Beth (Paul) Reis of Wheaton, Illinois, Jane (Greg) Zimmerman of Downers Grove, Ill., Anne Haeger of Marion, Iowa and one brother: Mark (Julie) Haeger of Downers Grove, Ill.

Reed was preceded in death by his parents; sisters-in-law: Sister Kathleen Hanley, CHM, Laurie Voelker; brothers-in-law: Mark Hanley, Edward Hanley, Eugene Foecke and son-in-law: Ben Steffensmeier.

A visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 12, 2024,&nbsp; at Schmitz Funeral Home in West Point.

A time of remembrance will be held at 11 a.m. Friday with Father Gary Beckman officiating at Schmitz Funeral Home in West Point. A time of food and fellowship will be held at the West Point American Legion after the burial. Following the luncheon, a celebration of life will be held at the Corner Tap.

Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in West Point.

Johanna Marie “Joy” Tracy, 88, of West Burlington, died Saturday, April 6, 2024, surrounded by family at her daughter's home in Burlington.

Born April 16, 1935, in Batavia, Ill., she was the daughter of Charles Elmer and Margurette Mahara Beckman. On April 29, 1955, she married Arnold Thomas Tracy in , Batavia Ill.. He later died July 21, 2019.

Johanna was girl scout leader in West Burlington, as well as Burlington. She was a Sunday school teacher at Flint Hills Church of the Nazarene. She coached girls softball and was a member of the Athletic Boosters of West Burlington. In addition to being a loyal Cubs and Bears fan, she also bowled and golfed for the Case Wives Team. Johanna loved to cross stitch, often times making gifts for friends and family. She was an avid reader, publishing two of her own books. When she was not watching or participating in sports, Johanna enjoyed spending time at &nbsp;her property in Van Buren County with her husband.&nbsp;

Survivors include son, Allan Lee (Dora) Tracy of Plover, WI, son, Thomas Arnold Tracy of Burlington, IA, daughter, Kim Colleen (LeRoy) Hurka of Gladstone, IL, daughter, Margurette Marie Sereda of Burlington, IA, daughter, Brenda Tracy (Jerry) Maus of Lake of The Ozarks, MO, daughter, Teresa Joy (Scott) Neuweg of Fort Madison, IA ; 16 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild and one on the way; one sister, Alice Rose (Larry) Locke of Sheldon, IA; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Arnold, her parents, three brothers, Charles Elmer Beckman Jr., James Henry Beckman, Oliver David Beckman; two sisters, Mildred Esther Carter and Gene Edith Aldrich; one great grandson, Lawrence Maus; and one Son-in-law, Stephen Sereda.

In addition to being a loyal Cubs and Bears fan, she also bowled and golfed for the Case Wives Team. Johanna loved to cross stitch, often times making gifts for friends and family. She was an avid reader, publishing two of her own books. Brady Paul Christ, 20, of Burlington, died Friday, April 5, 2024 at his home, after a lifelong battle with Adrenoleukodystrophy.

Born May 30, 2003, in West Burlington, he was the son of Brian Joseph and Kristen Michelle Chesterfield Christ.&nbsp;

He was a 2021 graduate of Burlington Notre Dame High School. Brady assisted his father with the family business, working on investments to build capital for charitable organizations.&nbsp;

He was of Catholic faith and was a member of Divine Mercy Parish. Brady enjoyed skateboarding, playing poker, gaming with his friends, trading stocks and playing with his cats. He was always making everyone laugh. Most importantly, he was very strongly devoted to a life of prayer and worship.&nbsp;

Survivors include his parents, Brian and Kristen Christ of Burlington; sister, Morgan Christ of Burlington; maternal grandmother, Diana Chesterfield of Mustang, OK; and paternal grandparents, Sue Ellen and Larry Christ of Burlington.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Burton Paul "Poppy" Chesterfield and his best friend, Garrett Brockway.

Visitation will be from 12 to 7 p.m.with a 2 p.m. rosary service Friday, April 12, 2024, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.&nbsp;

A memorial has been established for ALD Connect, located in Middleton, MA, to further research for Adrenoleukodystrophy, a rare disease about which there is still much to be learned. Brady voluntarily spent his lifetime participating in many clinical studies to advance the body of knowledge on this disease for the benefit of future generations.

Betty L. Beckman, 96, of Burlington, died Monday, April 8, 2024, at the OakView Nursing Home and Rehabilitation in Burlington.

Born July 26, 1927, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Raymond and Sarah Wilkerson Linquist. On Aug. 21, 1948, she married Robert P. Beckman at St. Patrick's Church in Burlington. He preceded her in death on Aug. 11, 2015.

She graduated from Burlington High School and worked at the telephone company as a switchboard operator until she married. She was a homemaker who raised 8 sons and 1 daughter with Robert at the same house on Agency where she remained for 67 years until her passing.&nbsp;

She was a devout Catholic member of Divine Mercy Parish and was active in the Altar and Rosary society and the Legion of Mary. Betty was a former member of the Eagles Club. As a young girl, she rode horses and spent summers on her grandparents farm. She had a competitive spirit when it came to playing board games with her children and grandchildren and guessing puzzles on Wheel of Fortune. She kept her mind sharp by playing word searches and crossword puzzles. Betty enjoyed watching sports, especially the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Boston Celtics and of course Super Bowls because of the parties. She loved music and concerts and going to the movie theater and enjoying her popcorn. She frequently shopped for clothing and had a sense of style.

Most of all Betty dearly loved spending time with her family. The luncheons with relatives, holiday gatherings, Sunday meals, and Saturday night takeout pizza were events she always looked forward to. Food, family, faith and friends were at the core of what she held important. Her resiliency and determination to battle through difficult illnesses with such grace and dignity earned the admiration of physicians and nursing staff who took care of her. She never gave up because she loved people and loved life. Betty was revered and loved by her family, friends, neighbors, and quite frankly anyone who had the privilege of knowing her. She leaves a legacy of&nbsp; generosity, selflessness, and kindness. She will be sorely missed.

Survivors include her daughter, Roxanne (Hub) Ulrich of Wellington, CO; eight sons, Greg (Karen) Beckman of Chicago, IL; Randy (Mary) Beckman of Iowa City; Kirk A. (Gertrude) Beckman; Kevin (Vicki) Beckman both of Burlington; Gary L. Beckman of Fort Madison; Jeff Beckman of Burlington; Brian (Sarah) Beckman of Iowa City; Brad (Angie) Beckman of Greenville, SC; 20 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; and 7 great great grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers in law, Clifford Beckman&nbsp; and Donald (Mary Lee) Beckman along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides her husband of 66 years, she was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Katherine Linquist.

A Chaplet of Divine Mercy will be held at 3:00 PM Friday, April 12, 2024 at Divine Mercy Parish-SS. Mary and Patrick Catholic Church, West Burlington followed by visitation where the family will receive friends from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m.with a rosary to be held at 7 p.m.
