Kelli Sharlene Reif, age 58, died Monday Feb. 26, 2024 in the presence of her loving family.

Kelli was born Nov. 21, 1965 in Burlington. She was the daughter of George Reif and Lorraine Johnson Reif.

Kelli grew up in Sperry and graduated from Mediapolis Community School District in 1984. On May 18, 1985, she married Bill Moehn, they later divorced in 2013. She was of the Methodist faith.

Over the years she worked at various restaurants as a server, the Quality Inn and was Assistant Manager at Long John Silvers. She owned A1 Antiques and Unique's for many years, as well as Big Momma's Gifts and Goodies.

Kelli had a curious spirit and enjoyed meeting new people. She enjoyed fishing, camping, bowling and traveling. She excelled in Art and attended SCC for art classes. She was best known for her custom Pinatas that she created and designed for parties.

Kelli loved going to flea markets and setting up at fairs and festivals. Kids enjoyed coming to her booth at the area County Fairs and everyone remembers her for her novelty gifts she sold. She was very active in her children’s athletics and other school events including being the coach of their soccer team and also serving on local PTA committees.

She was an avid patron of Steamboat Days and never missed a concert in over 20 years. She loved REO Speedwagon, having been to over 15 concerts with her sister.

Kelli started collecting monkeys as a child begining with her favorite doll being Jo-Jo the monkey. She had hundreds of different monkeys, figurines, etc. She named each one beginning with the letter J in their name.

She is survived by two sons, Marc (Deme Hamilton) Moehn and Monte Moehn; two grandsons, Braxten Moehn and Gage Cable Moehn; her sister Rhonda Reif, and her beloved dog, Traveler, as well as various aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her mother and father.

A memorial service is planned for Thursday March 7, 2024, at 11:30 a.m. at the Loft on 416 Jefferson Street Burlington. Interment will be at a later date. A memorial fund has been established.

Mr. Lonnie J. Herbert, 54, of Ft. Madison, died Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2024, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

Born June 27, 1969, in Canton, Ill., he was the son of Jerry Lee and Linda Carol Cattron Herbert.

He was a graduate of New London High School in 1987 and attended 1 year at Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge, Iowa.

On Nov. 5, 2011 he married Teresa Calvert in Crapo Park. They later divorced but remained good friends.

Lonnie worked for 10 years in the warehouse at Federal Mogul. He was the current Vice President of the UAW Local 1237. He was an avid reader and especially enjoyed Stephen King novels. Lonnie played frisbee golf and liked to cook. He was known for his cheesecakes.

Survivors include his mother, Linda (Clarence) Mitchell of West Burlington; brother Jamie (Cheryl) Herbert of Cedar Rapids; niece Arya Herbert; step-brother Mike Mitchell of Keosauqua, Iowa; step-sister Jill Holt of Georgetown, Ill.; paternal grandmother Bette Herbert of Kahoka, Mo. and aunts and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, maternal grandparents and paternal grandfather.

The celebration of life for Lonnie will be 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Thursday, March 7 at Lunning Chapel. A luncheon will follow at Machinist Hall in Middletown. Inurnment will be at Wiley Cemetery in Ellisville, Ill. at a later date

According to his wishes, cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel

Beverly Joan Anderson, 85, of Burlington, died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2024, at her home.

Born Aug. 4, 1938, in Burlington, she was the daughter of John and Dorothy Nelson Elliott.&nbsp;

Beverly was a woman of many talents and worked for many companies in the area. You may have seen her working at the following; multiple factories in the area, Family Medicine, The Salvation Army Store, Hawkeye Motors, Automatic Vending at G.E., Antennacraft, Champion, Evan's Candy Store and recently at Smokey V's Food Truck.

She loved the Lord and enjoyed attending Harmony Bible Church. Beverly enjoyed crocheting, sewing and trips to the ocean. She would be found feeding the birds, tending to her plants, or sitting on the porch with her dog Manny, smoking and either working on a crossword or reading the Hawkeye. She could also be found riding on the back of a motorcycle, at the casino, or listing to Classic Rock or Elvis. But the most important thing to Beverly was her family. She would have Sunday Night Dinners, celebrate everyone's birthdays, and never missed her grandchildren's events.&nbsp;

She will be remembered for her wonderful simile, selflessness, and was always helping everyone.&nbsp;

Survivors include her daughters, Marcia Brockway of Burlington, Laura Teesdale of Mountain Rest, S.C., and Pam (V.J.) Koett of Burlington; five grandchildren, John, Drew (Elizabeth), Tommy (Joselyn), Lisa (Dennis), and Jimmy; one niece, Beth Elliott; one nephew, Tim Elliott; beloved dog, Mannny, and all of her extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and one sister.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

Visitation will be from 1:30 to 3:30 P.M., Saturday, March 2, 2024 at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.

Irma Wilson, 90, of Charles City, formerly of Burlington, passed away Sunday, Feb. 25, 2024 at the 11th&nbsp;Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

A funeral service for Irma Wilson will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 29, 2024 at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home with Beth Hurt from Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church officiating.&nbsp; Burial will be at Sunnyside Memory Garden in rural Charles City.

Visitation will be one hour before the service at the funeral home on Thursday.

Irma Lou Borchardt Wilson was born Oct. 8, 1933 at Nashua, Iowa, the daughter of Richard and Loretta Conley Borchardt. She married Bob Wilson on May 27, 1967 and he died on Oct. 8, 1988.&nbsp;

Irma graduated from Charles City High School in 1952 and Burlington Hospital School of Nursing in 1957. She worked as a staff nurse there for years and a nursing instructor for three years before teaching at Southeastern Community College in the LPN and RN programs for 25 years. She was the DON at the Stronghurst, Ill. Nursing Home when it opened. She retired from Klein Nursing Home in Burlington.&nbsp;

Irma loved to travel and had visited 46 states. In 2017, she took a trip to Alaska (land and cruise), a long-time desire to do so. She loved visiting Peggy's Cove in Nova Scotia and did so several times. She collected lighthouses, Santa Clauses, and clowns. She did embroidery, jigsaw puzzles, crossword puzzles, and loved visiting with family and friends. She was of the Lutheran faith. She was a member of Jane Delano Retired Nurses Association, the Burlington Gym Auxiliary, and Eagle's Auxiliary.&nbsp;

Irma's survivors include niece, Vicky Semelhack and husband Don of Mora, Minnesota; great-nephew, Dan (Kate) Semelhack with great-great-nephews, Ollie and Teddy and great-great-niece, Audrey of Golden Valley, Minn.; great-niece, Amy (Bryant) Johnson with great-great-nephews, Wesley and Will of St Louis Park, Minesota; step-daughters: Connie (Gerald) Herman and Marcia (Brian) Luers of Burlington; step-son, Mike Wilson of West Burlington; sister-in-law, Lyneen Brunsting of Charles City; and several great-grandchildren.&nbsp;

Irma Wilson

Terry Heckenberg, 80, of Burlington, died Feb. 20, 2024, at his home. Terry's journey on earth has come to a close, but his spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.

Born to Karl and Dorothy Heckenberg at Burlington Hospital on Oct. 23, 1943, Terry grew up on his family’s farm in Danville, where he touched the lives of many with his warm heart and genuine personality. &nbsp;He graduated from Danville High School in 1961. He later moved to Denver where he served a shortened term for his country in the United States Army National Guard. &nbsp;Terry spent most of his life in Sales and loved doing that. When Terry wasn’t visiting with friends, you could find him watching old movies or sports, working on a crossword puzzle and most notably spending time with his wife Beverly at home.

Terry was a man of many talents and passions, but perhaps most notably known for his gift of gab and his ability to connect with others. Terry was a great conversationalist who enjoyed spending time with friends. He loved nothing more than engaging in lively discussions with friends and acquaintances, sharing stories, and making meaningful connections. His charismatic personality and genuine interest in others endeared him to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Throughout his life, Terry touched the lives of countless individuals with his warm personality, generosity, and natural charm.

Terry will be deeply missed by his beloved wife of 24 years Beverly (Miller) Burlington, who was his rock and source of unwavering happiness and support. In addition to his devoted wife, Terry is survived by three sons Marc (Cyndy), Jared (Stephanie), &amp; Ryan (Brittany) Heckenberg of Arvada, Colo., his sister Linda Craven of Burlington, seven grandchildren (Terra, Haley, Gage, Hayden, Ally, Henry, Austyn), four great-grandchildren (Taylynn, Ridley, Ryker, Raven) and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. He took immense pride in his family and found immeasurable joy in spending time with them.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Terry, his parents Karl &amp; Dorothy, and his niece Audra.

As we mourn Terry's passing, let us also celebrate the remarkable life he lived and the profound impact he had on those around him. May his soul rest in eternal peace, knowing that he was dearly loved, will never be forgotten and that his legacy continue to shine in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Terry Heckenberg

Darsi Lynn Hodgkin, 59, of Burlington, died Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2024, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born Feb. 19, 1965, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Joann Lee Bell Smith.&nbsp;

She was a graduate of Burlington High School and obtained her Associate's degree from Southeastern Community College.&nbsp;

She worked for a time at Stackers and Green Lantern bars, did professional cleaning for rental apartments and worked at Addison Mechanical.

Darsi loved to be outside, mushroom hunting, spending time on the river and at her family's cabin. She liked to garden and would can vegetables she grew each year. She was very social and loved spending time with friends, going to parties, playing BINGO, and attending blues concerts at The Washington with her mom. Darsi also loved cooking homemade chicken and noodles and enjoying a good piece of cake with extra frosting.&nbsp;

Survivors include her mother, Joann Lee Smith of Burlington; daughter, Madisyn Weyls of Burlington; sisters, Dawn Howerton and Dede Samul; step-sisters, Debi O'Malley and Patricia Pedon; step-brother, Jeff Smith; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Douglas Smith, grandparents, Lawrence and Vera Bell, uncles, Robert and Terry Bell, aunt, Sharon Phillips and cousin, Steve Morrison.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.&nbsp;

 </figure>Darsi Lynn Hodgkin, 59, of Burlington, died Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2024, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.Born Feb. 19, 1965, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Joann Lee Bell Smith.&nbsp;She was a graduate of Burlington High School and obtained her Associate's degree from Southeastern Community College.&nbsp;She worked for a time at Stackers and Green Lantern bars, did professional cleaning for rental apartments and worked at Addison Mechanical.Darsi loved to be outside, mushroom hunting, spending time on the river and at her family's cabin. She liked to garden and would can vegetables she grew each year. She was very social and loved spending time with friends, going to parties, playing BINGO, and attending blues concerts at The Washington with her mom. Darsi also loved cooking homemade chicken and noodles and enjoying a good piece of cake with extra frosting.&nbsp;Survivors include her mother, Joann Lee Smith of Burlington; daughter, Madisyn Weyls of Burlington; sisters, Dawn Howerton and Dede Samul; step-sisters, Debi O'Malley and Patricia Pedon; step-brother, Jeff Smith; and several nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her father, Douglas Smith, grandparents, Lawrence and Vera Bell, uncles, Robert and Terry Bell, aunt, Sharon Phillips and cousin, Steve Morrison.A celebration of life will be held at a later date.&nbsp;

Carolyn J. Warren, 73, of Burlington, died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2024, at her home surrounded by family.

Born June 9, 1950, in Des Moines County, she was the daughter of Howard R.and Imogene Parrott Sink. On July 14, 1973, she married Danny L. Warren in Iowa. 

Carolyn's main job was being a mother. She also worked for the Burlington School's Lunch Programs. 

Carolyn loved quilting and sewing, she even attended quilting shows. She enjoyed her flowers and would can vegetables from her garden. She has a sweet tooth for chocolate, especially chocolate fudge. The most important thing to Carolyn was her family and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband Danny Warren of Burlington; son, Jay (Stephanie) Warren of Burlington; daughter, Roxane (Ben) Nichols of Burlington; three grandchildren, Brittany, Taylor, and Karlie; six great grandchildren; sister, Ramona Heiniger of Burlington; one nephew and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Kathy Banks, and great grandchild, Karter.

Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday, March 1, 2024 at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.

The memorial service for Mrs. Warren will be 10 a.m. Friday, March 1, 2024, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.  Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery at a later date.

Carolyn J. Warren

William A. Schwind, 93, of Burlington, died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2024, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Born April 15, 1930, in a log cabin to William Philip and Susie Mae Harden Schwind in Ringwood, Okla. &nbsp;

Bill attended Burlington High School and graduated in May of 1948. While in school, he was active in Boy Scouts and later, Explorer Scouts.

Bill was drafted into the army in Sept. 1951. He was a paratrooper at Ft. Benning, Ga. until he was discharged in 1953.

On Sept. 27, 1952, he married Mary Jane Ertzinger at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Burlington.

After the army, he earned his mechanical engineering degree in Feb. 1959 from the University of Iowa. He worked for Mason and Hanger - Silas Mason Co. at the Iowa Army Ammunitions Plant.

From there he owned and operated George's Lawnmower and Repair Shop for nine years. Later he worked for Hon Furniture, Klein Manufacturing, Henkel Chemical/Ecolab and V.S.L Corp as an engineering inspector for the cables on the new Mississippi River bridge at Burlington.

For 14 years he worked as the camp ranger at the YMCA Camp McBride. While there, he found improvement projects so that 31 boys could obtain their Eagle Scout awards.

He was a member of Divine Mercy Parish and the Jaycees. He was Concordia Township clerk for 24 years and a Boy Scout leader.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Mary; three daughters, Janice Boyles, Judith (Tim) Wagner, and Jacalyn Mehaffy; two sons, David (Brenda) Schwind, and Darrin Schwind; 10 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Ellis Long; five sisters and son-in-law, Greg Boyles.

Bill always claimed to have a "Full House" - three Queens and two Jacks and that's a full house!

Carole had an immense love for her friends as well as her family. She enjoyed crafting, the pool and was an avid animal lover, from rats to lizards.&nbsp;

Survivors include her husband, Rick Miles of Burlington; two children, Lauren Turner and Ben Turner both of Burlington; step-daughter, Teonna &nbsp;Dowell of Ill.; three grandchildren, Cameron Smith, Aaliyana Lewis, and Kaella Lewis; two sisters, Barbara Voss of Lake Mills, Wis. and Diane Wolfe of Olathe, Kan.; and two fur babies, Gemma and Roxy.

She was preceded in death by her parents, former husband, Rick Turner, and step-daughter, Nicole Beeding.

Eddie Lee Wright, 76, of Keokuk, formerly of Fort Madison, Iowa, died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2024, at River Hills Village in Keokuk.

Eddie served in the Army during the Vietnam war.

He was a truck driver for many years, more recently with Heartland Express.

Eddie was an avid gun and coin collector. He enjoyed going to casinos and hunting with his brother Joe and nephews and great nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, James Wright, Floyd Wright and Glen Wright and sister Joyce Lawrence.

According to his wishes, cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.

Burial will be held at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St, Louis, Missouri at a later date.

Carol M. Cluney, 93, of Danville, died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2024, at OakView Care Center in Burlington.

Born in rural Des Moines County, Iowa, on May 5, 1930, she was the youngest daughter of Charles and Eva (Anderson) Timmerman. On May 5, 1949, she married Richard Cluney Sr.

Over the years, she worked at various jobs including the Willoware, Basket Factory and eventually spent her last years at General Electric before retiring. Carol really enjoyed traveling, whether it was bus trips or overseas. She also enjoyed flea marketing with her sisters on weekends and adding to her collections of knick knacks.

She is survived by three children: Richard Cluney, Jr., Sharon (Richard) Wyett both of Danville, Iowa and Jeannette Butts of West Burlington; five grandchildren: Trisha and Erick Cluney, Sea (Danielle) Wyett, Kari Wyett, Quinton Smothers and three great grandchildren: Madisyn, Tate and Camber Wyett.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter Kathy Caldwell, grandson Chad Caldwell, daughter in-law Sharon Cluney, sisters: Wilma Stafford, Esther Warth, Frances Cline, Cecil, Neta and Winnie Timmerman and two brothers: Atwood and Arthur Timmerman.

Larry Bush, 81, died Feb. 24, 2024, at Azria Prairie Ridge Nursing Home in Mediapolis, Iowa.

Larry was born August 5, 1942, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Cyrus and Welcome Christner Bush. Larry attended a one room country elementary school at West Chester Iowa High School He married Thelma Hill in 1963 in Wayland.

A farm boy, he also was employed as a welder and carpenter before attending Barber College in 1962. He managed his barber business for 35 years and began a 15-year tenure at Federal Mogul, some years simultaneously.

At his father’s early death, Larry became responsible for his mother’s farm 50 miles from his home. With the help of his family, they worked the fields on nights and weekends for 30 years.

Larry was an avid gardener and loved sharing his produce – especially known for his sweet corn. His greatest pleasure was his hunting and fishing trips. He was once heard to say “I wish I didn’t have to sleep. There are so many things I want to do!”

Larry is survived by his wife Thelma Bush; son Lonny Bush; daughter-in-law Donna Bush and grandchildren Dominck Bush, Jacob Bush and Karlee Bush. He is also survived by his brother Dennis (Peggy) Bush.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, son Martin Bush, sister Leah Dell Beckley and two brothers Donald Bush and Loren Bush.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel. No services are scheduled. A private burial will be held at a later date.

Nancy Ann Zippe, 66, of Burlington, died Friday, Feb. 23, 2024, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born Jan. 6, 1958, in Burlington, Iowa, she was the daughter of Lester and Mary (Kistner) Howard Zippe.

Nancy was a graduate of Burlington High School and Dayton’s School of Hair Design.

She loved being outdoors, gardening, planting flowers, going to the river, mushroom hunting, bonfires, wildlife, puzzles and cooking, especially for the holidays.

Anyone that knew Nancy, knew that she loved her family dearly.

Survivors include her two children; Nicholas Burch and Teri (Damian) Cummins both of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren, Jayden, Abrianna, Courtney, Chase, Emma and Eli; two great grandchildren, Zariah and Zacari; three brothers, Joseph Zippe, James Howard and Clarence “Herky” Howard and several nieces nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents, her parents and three brothers, Martin Zippe, Clifford “Keith” Howard and William Howard Jr.

Nancy Ann Zippe

Ingeborg “Ing” Louise Zaiser, 98, of Burlington, died Monday, Feb. 26, 2024, at Oakview Nursing and Rehab Center.

Born June 4, 1925 in Burlington, she was the daughter of Carl A. and Auguste Mangl Kalkbrenner.

Ing graduated from Burlington High School and Burlington College of Commerce, Secretarial. On Sept. 27, 1947, she married Mark F. “Mike” Zaiser at St. Paul United Church of Christ. He died Jan. 21, 2006.

Ing worked for Northwest Bell and was a teacher’s aide at Washington School. Her primary focus was being a homemaker for her family. She enjoyed solving crossword puzzles and watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. She was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan.

Ing was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in West Burlington. She was involved with women’s fellowship and teaching Sunday School. She was a seamstress and was a member of the Happy Go Lucky Sewing Club and formerly involved with the fireman auxiliary. She was very political minded and worked many years at the polls. She was involved in boy scouts and girl scouts. She was a grandmother to all, not just her own. Ing enjoyed spending time with family, going on mystery trips and kept in touch with her family in Germany and was lucky enough to visit. She had friends of all ages! Enjoyed sending notes and cards, and making loving phone calls.

Survivors include her children Annette Vincent, Danny (Dawn) Zaiser and Victoria (Dusty) Thye all of Burlington; grandchildren Bill, Mindy, Riley, Trey, Briar, Andrew, Hannah, Brody, Bryan, Staci and Shannon; fourteen great grandchildren and two on the way and one niece and several nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Mike and brother Carl Kalkbrenner, sister Rosemary Scarff.

The funeral for Ing will be 1 p.m. Friday, March 1, 2024 at Lunning Chapel with Reverend Ned Fry officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

 </figure>Ingeborg “Ing” Louise Zaiser, 98, of Burlington, died Monday, Feb. 26, 2024, at Oakview Nursing and Rehab Center.Born June 4, 1925 in Burlington, she was the daughter of Carl A. and Auguste Mangl Kalkbrenner.Ing graduated from Burlington High School and Burlington College of Commerce, Secretarial. On Sept. 27, 1947, she married Mark F. “Mike” Zaiser at St. Paul United Church of Christ. He died Jan. 21, 2006.Ing worked for Northwest Bell and was a teacher’s aide at Washington School. Her primary focus was being a homemaker for her family. She enjoyed solving crossword puzzles and watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. She was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan.Ing was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in West Burlington. She was involved with women’s fellowship and teaching Sunday School. She was a seamstress and was a member of the Happy Go Lucky Sewing Club and formerly involved with the fireman auxiliary. She was very political minded and worked many years at the polls. She was involved in boy scouts and girl scouts. She was a grandmother to all, not just her own. Ing enjoyed spending time with family, going on mystery trips and kept in touch with her family in Germany and was lucky enough to visit. She had friends of all ages! Enjoyed sending notes and cards, and making loving phone calls.Survivors include her children Annette Vincent, Danny (Dawn) Zaiser and Victoria (Dusty) Thye all of Burlington; grandchildren Bill, Mindy, Riley, Trey, Briar, Andrew, Hannah, Brody, Bryan, Staci and Shannon; fourteen great grandchildren and two on the way and one niece and several nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Mike and brother Carl Kalkbrenner, sister Rosemary Scarff.The funeral for Ing will be 1 p.m. Friday, March 1, 2024 at Lunning Chapel with Reverend Ned Fry officiating. Mitchell Scott “Mitch” Lowe, 65, of Burlington, died Sunday, Feb. 2024 at the University of Iowa.

Born Feb. 28, 1958 in Hannibal, Mo., he was the son of Cecil Raymond and Jo Ann Yargus Lowe.

Mitch was a graduate of Burlington High School in 1976. He was a department manager at Lowe’s for many years. He attended Burlington First Church of the Nazarene. He enjoyed television shows, loved music, especially the oldies and The Carpenters. He was an animal lover and enjoyed dog sitting for his family members. Mitch loved his family and would do anything for them at any time and wouldn’t expect anything in return. He was truly loved by all his family and will be deeply missed.

Survivors include his mother, Jo Ann Lowe; brothers Craig Lowe and Eric (Nancy) Lowe and sister April (Ed) Budzyn and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents and father, Cecil.

Chuck Buck, 34, of Burlington, died Monday, Feb. &nbsp;19, 2024.

Born July 3, 1989, in Mount Pleasant, he was the son of Kevin Bruce Buck and Kim Heinrich Howell.

He attended West Burlington High School.&nbsp;

He worked as a Telebelt Operator at Precision Material Placement and previously at Ideal Ready Mix.

Charlie, aka "Chuck Buck" could light up a room as soon as he walked in. His infectious smile, bear hugs, and luscious locks (as he called his hair) were his trademarks. You never knew what he might be driving, but it was generally covered in mud and lucky to be running! &nbsp;He loved his friends and family BIG, especially the nieces and nephews. They all loved their Uncle Chuck. &nbsp;His "fur loaf" Bo was usually by his side chilling on the couch or in bed sharing chicken nuggies. There will never be another CMFB!

Survivors include father and step-mother, Kevin Buck and Tina Jo Buck; mother and step-father, Kim and Joe Howell; siblings Luke Dunham (Katia) of Burlington, Levi Dunham (Abby) of Burlington, Jacob Howell (Kristin) of Cuba, Ill., Dalton Howell of Burlington, Keely Douglas (Danny) of Fort Madison, and Kody Duncan (Chelsea) of Fort Madison, nieces and nephews: Bennet Duncan, Greyson, Bryson, and Kohen Duncan, Brixley Dunham and Beckett Dunham..

Louis Alexander Trumbull was born on April 29, 2006, at Great River Medical Center in Burlington Iowa to Amber Schertz; with his Aunt Sis and his Yaya present in the room for his birth.&nbsp; He was raised the majority of his life by Casandra Schertz (Sis) and Angela 'Hayburn' Schertz (Jo). He grew up at his home with his two brothers, Jacob Trumbull and Michael (Mike) Schertz, with frequent visits and family vacations with his sisters, Erica ‘Cline’ Trumbull and Claire Lafferty.

Louis flourished at so many things. He’s had many hobbies and things he enjoyed doing throughout his life, but his love for animals and his kind heart have never changed. At a young age, Louis had a grave fear of heights. After deciding to push his fears and get on a roller coaster that went upside-down at Silver Dollar City, his love for thrills grew. He enjoyed zip lining, roller coasters, rock climbing (he only had a chance to do it indoors), biking on trails, playing his XBox, hanging out with friends, building a fort with his buddies, fishing, boating, drawing (when he was little), among other things.&nbsp;

Although he didn’t like to help much with home improvement projects at home (except for the demolition part), he still had a love for construction. Construction was his career focus with the National Guard. He was set to go to basic training June 5 after he graduated High School this year. He also took shop classes at BHS, where his teacher reported at conferences that Louis had enough background knowledge that he would go around helping other students.&nbsp;

Louis was an amazing teacher, not just in class, but anywhere with anyone that he felt he could share his knowledge with and give pointers to. He also had a natural ability when it came to caring for and showing love for younger kids. The attention he gave them and the way their little faces lit up when they saw him was so heartwarming. He was looking forward to being an uncle this summer, as his brother Jacob is expecting a little boy, Kai Matthew Trumbull. Louis was also excited about his role as a Godfather to his cousin’s baby girl Zariyah Mae Hill, due to arrive this summer also. His little sister Claire adored him, and was always sad to see him leave, so he would just hold her against his chest to comfort her. He had two other younger siblings that he was amazing with also, Jace and Makayla Reynolds.&nbsp;

Louis meant so much to so many people. He enjoyed cooking with his Yaya (Grandma Darla Schertz). He found his love for Jacuzzi tubs and espresso during his time with his Opa Mike (Grandpa Michael Schertz). He had fun hunting for snakes with his Oma (Great Grandma Jenny Cline). He enjoyed working on cars with his Grandpa Kenny (Kenneth Reynolds). He found joy in sending and receiving messages from his Grandma Julie (Julie Keeler).&nbsp;

Greeting him at Heaven’s gates, I’m sure were his Great Grandparents Marilee and Clarence Eastman and Harvey Cline.&nbsp;

Louis touched a lot of lives throughout his short 17 years on Earth. He left us Monday, Feb. &nbsp;19, 2024, doing something he enjoyed; zoning out to his favorite play list while jogging to get his endurance up for basic training. Cardio was not his favorite, but he was dedicated. He meant a lot to a lot of people and we are all blessed to have been able to have had him in our lives. He will forever be missed! Til we meet again! We love you dearly Louis Alexander!

Louis would not want to participate in any of this if he had a choice. “Not particularly,” would have been his response to it. Everyone is encouraged to ditch the formal wear and just wear a hoodie or something else casual, as that’s what he preferred to wear.

Birgit Brissey, 63, of West Burlington, died Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2024, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born Sept. 13, 1960, in Frankenthal, Germany, she was the daughter of Anneliese Schmitt Weiler. She came to the United States when she was two years old.

Birgit was a Paralegal for Des Moines County for 27 years until her retirement in 2023.

She loved traveling to the beach and sea turtles. She was a sports fanatic, and loved watching all sports and most importantly her grandsons’ activities. She enjoyed playing darts, and participated in many dart leagues along with her friend Skeeter.

She is survived by her two daughters; Heather (Brandon) Rich and Danielle (Darien) Brissey; grandsons, Jason, Kai, Cohen and Oziyah; aunt Ruth Hoffman and cousin Brent (Sarah) Maxwell and their children Brenden and Michaela.

She was preceded in death by her mother Anneliese and aunt Inge Nickel.

The memorial funeral service for Birgit will be 4 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27 at Lunning Chapel. The family requests all who attend wear bright colored clothing.

A memorial has been established for the Sea Turtle Conservation Fund.

According to her wishes, cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.
