Jeffory Leo Waterman,&nbsp;68, of Farmington, died Friday, Feb. 7, 2025, at his home in Farmington. He was born on July 17, 1956, in Macon, Mo., the son of Ned G. and Julia Hanson Waterman.&nbsp;

He is survived by his brother: Marquette Waterman of Ottumwa, Iowa; three sisters: Prudence Wallace of Morning Sun, Iowa, Annabell King of Oklahoma, Karla Runquist of Virginia. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother: Brian Waterman. Jeff was a 1974 graduate of Fox Valley High School in Milton. He worked for Hawkeye Steel in Houghton. He enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing.

His body has been entrusted to Schmitz Funeral Home for cremation. A private family burial will be held at a later date at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Douds.

A memorial has been established in his memory and can be mailed to the family at: Schmitz Funeral Home, P.O. Box 56, Donnellson, Iowa 52625. Schmitz Funeral Home of Farmington is assisting the family with arrangements.&nbsp;

James Edward “Pooch” Rodeffer, 93, of rural Stronghurst, Ill., passed away at 3 a.m. Wednesday, Febr. 12, 2025 at his home.

Mr. Rodeffer was born Aug. 28, 1931 the son of James Russell and Era May Smith Rodeffer. On August 30, 1952 he married Betty LaVerna Wetterling in Burlington, Iowa. She preceded him in death March 15, 2009.&nbsp;

He began farming at a young age and was a graduate of LaHarpe High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and was a Korean War Veteran. After returning home from the war, he continued farming. He loved all aspects of farming, from running equipment, raising Paint Horses and antique tractors. He was a member of the American Paint Horse Association and a member and past Chairman of the Lamoine Trails Saddle Club in Macomb, Illinois.&nbsp;

Survivors include one granddaughter: Melissa Walker of Fort Madison, Iowa; three great-grandchildren and numerous extended family members.&nbsp;

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by one son: Randall Rodeffer; two sisters: Lucille Smith and Mary Rodeffer and four brothers: Bill, Bob, Charles and Dick Rodeffer.&nbsp;

The funeral service for Mr. Rodeffer will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 17, 2025 at Banks &amp; Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe. Burial will be in the Terre Haute Cemetery, Terre Haute, Illinois. No visitation is planned.

A luncheon will be held following the services.&nbsp;

Joan L. Work, 88, of Burlington, died Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2025, at the Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born Oct. 20, 1936, in Ft. Madison, she was the daughter of Harry and Dorothy Reichelt Linnenbrink. &nbsp;Joan married Robert Hill on Aug. 3, 1957 and later divorced in 1975. &nbsp;She married James Parisi on April 1981, who later passed away on Oct. 5, 1982. &nbsp;On Sept. 21, 1984, she married Robert Work in Burlington. &nbsp;Robert sadly passed away on Dec. 24, 2016.

Joan was a very independent person. &nbsp;She enjoyed spending time with her late husband Bob, whether that was traveling, boating or fishing. &nbsp;She loved the holidays, especially Christmas, and looked forward to making Christmas cookies for her family. &nbsp;She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. &nbsp;Joan loved dogs and always had animals throughout her life. &nbsp;Moreover she loved her family. &nbsp;Her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren meant the world to her. &nbsp;Joan will be missed tremendously, but her memory will continue on through all who love her.

Joan's family include her children, Robert (Linda) Hill of Burlington, Daniel (Jayne) Hill of Burlington, Jane (Matt) Schuler of New London, Christine (John) Marland of Willow Beach, Ariz.; grandchildren, Mollie, Kahlen, Jordan, Spencer, Jaclyn, Hannah, Jared, Stephanie, Jonathan, Danielle, Jaime, Justin, Julianna, JohnPaul, Terra and Dustin; 24 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

Sadly, Joan was preceded in death by her husbands, Jim and Bob; son, David Hill; and her parents and siblings.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

The Memorial Mass of the Resurrection for Joan will be Monday, March 3, 2025, 10 a.m., at Divine Mercy Parish-Ss Mary and Patrick Catholic Church with Fr. Jake Greiner as the Celebrant. &nbsp;Visitation will precede the Mass from 9 to 10 a.m. at the church. &nbsp;Joan will be laid to rest following the Mass at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Burlington, next to her late husbands, Bob and Jim.&nbsp;

Harvey Johnson, 91, of Burlington, died Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2025, at the Klein Center in West Burlington.

Born Dec. 1, 1933, in Fort Madison, he was the son of Leonard N. and Bernice Mansheim Johnson. On April 4, 1959, he married Carolyn Kay Cooper in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Fort Madison.

Harvey grew up attending a one room school house up to the 8th grade. He was a 1951 graduate of Saint Joseph High School in Fort Madison and then graduated from Iowa State University in 1953, where he received his Associate's Degree in Farm Operation. Harvey proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955.

Harvey worked for the United States Post Office for 38 years and retired in 1992, he also managed the Postal Credit Union for 18 years.&nbsp;

He was a member of SS. Mary and Patrick Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus council #568 and he served as a Black Knight, and Saint Vincent de Paul. He enjoyed attending his children's and grandchildren's music and sporting events when they were young, playing cards with friends and family, and spending time at the farm.

Survivors include wife, Carolyn Kay Johnson of Burlington, son, Bryan C. Harvey Johnson

Mary Kathryn Krohlow, 80, of Burlington, died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2025, at her home.

Born May 1, 1944, in Wisconsin, she was the daughter of Edgar A. and Ruth E. Zuelke Krohlow. She attended Seymour High School, where she graduated as valedictorian of her class in 1962. She continued her education and graduated from Wartburg College. Mary started her career in 1966 teaching English and serving as the staff advisor to the students who produced the newspaper, "The Purple and Gray" and the "Pathfinder" yearbook at Burlington Community High School.

Mary served on both the Burlington Public Library Board of Trustees and the Southeast Iowa Regional Library Board of Trustees. She was instrumental in the fundraising efforts for the present public library building. She spent many hours researching local history and published "Streets of Honor", telling many tales of Burlington's past. As a long-time board member, play producer and director of the Players' Workshop, she was currently working on preserving their history. Mary supported many other local organizations with her time and talents: the Burlington Municipal Band, Des Moines County Historical Society, Mock Trials, The Shakespeare Club, WIUM-FM (public radio) and local book clubs.

She loved watching women's athletics (Wartburg and Iowa games with Caitlyn Clark) and the Green Bay Packers. Mary had many adventures as she traveled the world for Benner Tea Company, Worldwide Chain Store Systems, Inc., Marwood Distribution Systems, Inc., and the British American Consulting Group, but she also enjoyed the time she spent with her friends and fellow volunteers in all of her varied activities. Her time, expertise, mentorship, and contributions to the Burlington-area community will be missed.

Survivors include her brother, Tom Krohlow; sister-in-law, Jan Krohlow; nephew, Todd Krohlow; niece, Tricia Hendricks; great niece, Skyelin Krohlow; great nephew, Austin Hendricks; aunt, Gloria Krohlow and many cousins, extended family members and friends.&nbsp;

Mary Krohlow

Marilyn A. Mercer, 84, of Burlington, died Saturday, February 8, 2025, at the Klein Center in West Burlington. Born Aug. 1, 1940, in Salem, she was the daughter of Allo Casper and Anna Elizabeth Fraise.

She was a 1958 graduate of Salem High School and was her class valedictorian and played basketball. She then continued on in schooling and earned her Cosmetology degree.

She married John E. Mercer, Jr., on September 16, 1961, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Houghton, Iowa. He preceded her in death on November 12, 2011.

Marilyn served as a candy striper for Sacred Heart Hospital in Fort Madison and was a homemaker. She operated Grandma’s Child Care from 1975-2002 and served as a foster parent and a teacher’s aide.

Marilyn loved her husband John with all her heart and soul for over 50 years. She also loved her kids, in-laws, grandkids and great grandkids to the fullest! Her family was her everything. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends at her cabin on the Mississippi River. She supported her kids, grandkids and great grandkids at life events, sporting events and all special moments.

She was happiest when surrounded by family. She enjoyed quiet moments with nature at the cabin and taking care of her plants in her yard, remodeling homes, taking her daily car rides to check on everyone and everything. She made the best food including family favorites such as chicken with drop biscuits and noodles, deviled eggs, and loved pecan pie! She collected glass chicken figurines and antiques. She would spoil the great grandkids and their pets with sweet secret snacks. She also enjoyed having fun with her friends at the Senior Center in Burlington.

She is survived by her three children; Cherylyn (Andy) Holdefer of Elizabeth, Colorado, John E. (Lori) Mercer III of Burlington and Becky (Tim) Snyder of Danville; grandchildren, Amber (fiancé Jake Davis) Holdefer of Roswell, Georgia, Aimee (Brandon) Wellman of Keota, Oklahoma, Drew (Tiffani) Holdefer of Hindsville, Arkansas, John (Sadie) Mercer IV, Max (Madison) Mercer and Timmy (fiancé Taylor) Snyder all of Burlington and Jessica Snyder of Jacksonville, Florida; great grandchildren, Briar Rose Mercer, Dawson Thomas Mercer, Maeve Florence Mercer, Waylon Coy Holdefer and one on the way and brother Harold (Roberta) Fraise of Danville.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother and three sisters.

The Mass of Christian Burial for Mrs. Mercer will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, February 14th at St. John Catholic Church of Divine Mercy Parish. The Rev. Father Jake Greiner will officiate. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

The Rosary will be recited at 5:00 p.m. Thursday, February 13th at Lunning Chapel with family to receive friends following the Rosary until 7 p.m.

Flowers are welcome, however a donation to St Jude Children’s Hospital is preferred.

Born Aug. 1, 1940, in Salem, she was the daughter of Allo Casper and Anna Elizabeth Fraise.She was a 1958 graduate of Salem High School and was her class valedictorian and played basketball. She then continued on in schooling and earned her Cosmetology degree.She married John E. Mercer, Jr., on September 16, 1961, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Houghton, Iowa. He preceded her in death on November 12, 2011.Marilyn served as a candy striper for Sacred Heart Hospital in Fort Madison and was a homemaker. She operated Grandma’s Child Care from 1975-2002 and served as a foster parent and a teacher’s aide.She was a member of Divine Mercy Parish.Marilyn loved her husband John with all her heart and soul for over 50 years. She also loved her kids, in-laws, grandkids and great grandkids to the fullest! Her family was her everything. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends at her cabin on the Mississippi River. She supported her kids, grandkids and great grandkids at life events, sporting events and all special moments.She was happiest when surrounded by family. She enjoyed quiet moments with nature at the cabin and taking care of her plants in her yard, remodeling homes, taking her daily car rides to check on everyone and everything. She made the best food including family favorites such as chicken with drop biscuits and noodles, deviled eggs, and loved pecan pie! She collected glass chicken figurines and antiques. She would spoil the great grandkids and their pets with sweet secret snacks. She also enjoyed having fun with her friends at the Senior Center in Burlington.She is survived by her three children; Cherylyn (Andy) Holdefer of Elizabeth, Colorado, John E. (Lori) Mercer III of Burlington and Becky (Tim) Snyder of Danville; grandchildren, Amber (fiancé Jake Davis) Holdefer of Roswell, Georgia, Aimee (Brandon) Wellman of Keota, Oklahoma, Drew (Tiffani) Holdefer of Hindsville, Arkansas, John (Sadie) Mercer IV, Max (Madison) Mercer and Timmy (fiancé Taylor) Snyder all of Burlington and Jessica Snyder of Jacksonville, Florida; great grandchildren, Briar Rose Mercer, Dawson Thomas Mercer, Maeve Florence Mercer, Waylon Coy Holdefer and one on the way and brother Harold (Roberta) Fraise of Danville.She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother and three sisters.The Mass of Christian Burial for Mrs. Mercer will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, February 14th at St. John Catholic Church of Divine Mercy Parish. Paul Flactiff, 83, of Keota, formerly of Burlington, died Monday, Feb. 10, 2025, at the Keota Health Center in Keota. Born Aug. 27, 1941, in Ottumwa, he was the son of Harry and Mary Flactiff. He was an Air Force veteran. He married Diana Swink on March 14, 1969. She preceded him in death April 9, 2021.

Paul worked for J.I. Case until his retirement.

He is survived by his two daughters, DawnDe A. Irwin and Reneea Dealcruz; son Mark Flactiff of Milan, Illinois; three step-children Linda Jones, Raymond Clute and Brent Clute; 15 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

Sister Eunice Graham of Ottumwa and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Diana, step-son Larry Clute, two brothers Harry Flactiff and Eddie Flactiff and four sisters, Doris Weltch, Eva Paris, Rosalie Osborn and Lottie Steinbach.

Ronald W. Johnson, 78, of Burlington, died Saturday, February 8, 2025 at his home.

Born on April 30, 1946 in Burlington, he was the son of Delbert H. Johnson and Mary Linn Kennedy. On December 18, 1976, in Birmingham, Ala., he married Wanda Dean Olvey. She survives.

Ron graduated from Sidney Lanier High School, class of 1964, and continued his education at the University of Alabama for his undergraduate studies and then on to University of Alabama School of Law, where he obtained his law degree in 1971. His keen interest in contract law led him into a successful career in the construction industry. As a general contractor and the founder of Maxus Construction Company in Birmingham, he was responsible for overseeing many sizable builds, including the first super Walmart, a Home Depot, and several residential complexes. He was very proud of developing Maxus into one of the fastest growing companies in the US, landing the business at #153 on the Inc. 500 in 1996.

Anyone who knew Ron was often regaled with tales of his youthful misadventures. He played pranks on everyone including his fraternity brothers in Theta Chi at the University of Alabama, his childhood friends in Montgomery, and members of his immediate family. His children and friends would often ask him to recall the details of his antics, listening in disbelief to a myriad of daring escapades by him and his good friends and family. Ron was known as being an excellent cook, and especially relished cooking (and eating) steaks with his family. He was generous to a fault and was often found to be simultaneously intimating and loveable due to his very direct nature. He enjoyed raising Brangus cattle in Alabama for many years, while his wife gardened and his father tended the pastures. His Christian faith, which was always a prominent part of his life, culminated in his and Dean’s ministry and missionary service in Macas, Ecuador, where their work continues to this day. Recent years led to the indulgence of his hobby with model trains, spending time with his family, and caring for his wife.

He is survived by his wife Dean; two daughters: Stephanie (Chip/George) Davis Casey of Birmingham, AL, Amanda (Doug Glader) Johnson Winters formerly of Birmingham, AL; six grandchildren: Jake, Amy and Jamie Casey, Owen, Gwen and Lucy Winters; siblings: Robert Johnson and Shirley Brown, both of Prattville, AL.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter Amy Lane Davis.

Per his wishes cremation has been entrusted and accorded to the care of Lunning Chapel. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in Alabama.

Lester Carter, 86, of Burlington, died Thursday, Feb. 6, 2025, at the Klein Center in West Burlington. Born July 1, 1938, in Burlington, he was the son of Lester Guy and Marie Louise Wunderlich Carter. On Aug. 18, 2000, he married Karen Ruble in Burlington.

Lester graduated from Burlington High School class of 1957. He served his country in the Army National Guard.

Lester worked as a welder for J.I. Case for 34 years. He also taught night welding classes at SCC in West Burlington.

Lester was a member of the Eagles Club and was a proud UAW member. He enjoyed snow skiing, going to morning coffee with his friends, collecting coins, and welding. He loved his red Corvette, drag racing, working out at the YMCA, and going to dinner at the Hotel Nauvoo. His most enjoyable times were those spent with family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Karen Carter of Burlington; one son, Bret (Angie) Carter of Arvada, CO; and three grandchildren, Shaelyn, Jake, and Trey Carter.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, James and Warren Carter; and one sister who died in infancy, Mary Carter.

Visitation will be Saturday, Feb. 15, 2025, with the family to receive friends from 9 to 10 a.m. at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.

Robinette Sue Shanklin, 72, of Burlington, died Feb. 3, 2025, with her son and granddaughter by her side. She was born Nov. 11, 1952, in Burlington. She lived, loved, and created an amazing legacy.&nbsp;

Robin was very artistic and giving and loved hanging out with her kids and grandkids and attending their events. She was the true Matriarch of her family. She loved listening to Christmas music all year long as well as 50’s and 60’s music. She enjoyed all things Sci-Fi and fantasy.

Her survivors include two children, Jaymee Apolinario and Jaycob McCampbell (fiancé Audrey Gerst); eight grandchildren, Krystal Altemus, Victoria Altemus, Jayde Apolinario and her fiancé Kiandra Baylark., Judith Altemus, Cynthia (Punk) Altemus, Liam Gerst, Ronan and Avi McCampbell. Robin was preceded in death by her parents Shirley and Carl Bailey; and Eleven great-grandchildren: Kaydyn, Aydrian, Jonathan, Benton, Emori, Rinoa, Lawrence, Danycia, Xavier, Sophia, and Auriauna. Other survivors include two nieces, Wayann and Carie; one nephew and one great niece; and two brothers. She also leaves behind one sister/best friend: Anna Boughton, and lifelong friend Mario Fiori.

Robinette loved all those she met and all those she met loved her. She will never be forgotten, and she lives on in us!

A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 5, 2025, at the Local #807 Union Hall, 9313 Koestner Street, Burlington. We will be having food pictures and music that represents her loves and time for the kids to play because above all else she loved to hear them laugh and have fun.

Brent H. Maxwell, 67, of Burlington, died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2025, at Azria Prairie Ridge Care and Rehabilitation Center in Mediapolis. Born April 9, 1957, in Frankenthal, Blumenstrasse, Germany, he was the son of Gerald L. and Ruth K. Maxwell. He married Sarah M. Mellinger on March 31, 1984, in West Burlington.

Brent was an Engineer and a member of Union Baptist Church. His proudest accomplishment was writing the book "Muscatine Burlington Southern Railroad".

He is survived by his wife Sarah Maxwell of Burlington; son Brendan Maxwell of Mount Pleasant; daughter Michaela (Zack) Hull of Ankeny and his mother Ruth Hoffman of Burlington.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 28t at Union Baptist Church in Burlington where the family will receive friends. A memorial service will follow the visitation at 11 a.m. at Union Baptist Church. Pastor Marcus Timmons will officiate. Burial will follow in Keokuk National Cemetery.

Brent H. Maxwell

Audrey Anne Sirovy, age 70, passed away on Jan. 30, 2025, in Iowa City, Iowa. Born on Jan. 2, 1955, in Muscatine, Audrey was the beloved daughter of Charles and Vivian Beeding Foster. In July of 1973, Audrey married Calvin Sirovy. Together they built a life filled with love and cherished memories until Calvin’s passing in 2005. Their union brought two children into the world: Melissa (Tim) Keen and Timothy (Hannah) Sirovy. Audrey took great pride in her role as a mother and later as a grandmother to Shannon (Joshua) Patrick, Kristen Keen, and Calvin Keen. Her joy only grew with the arrival of her four great-grandchildren: Braxton Lewman and Teagan, Hadley, and Archer Patrick.

Audrey grew up in a large and loving family alongside her siblings. She is survived by her brother Allen and sisters Phylis (Dan) Kauffman, Dorothy Morrow, Sally Malcom, Ethel (Steve Bishop) Foster, Edith (Marlin) Spitznogle, and Ina Foster.

She was preceded in death by her brothers Kenny, Roger, Ross, and her sister Mary.

A graveside service to honor Audrey’s life will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 7, 2025, at Wapello Cemetery in Wapello, Iowa (100th St. Wapello, IA).

Audrey Anne Sirovy

Bill Denly,&nbsp;81, of Farmington, died at 4:25 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love for the outdoors, the thrill of the hunt and the deep bonds of family and friendship. Bill was a true sportsman, a man who felt most at home in the woods, gun in hand, with the crisp morning air and the quiet rustle of the trees as his only companions.

He was born on Feb. 27, 1943, the son of Gerald and Dorothy Schau Denly. Bill grew up learning the ways of the land. Hunting wasn’t just a hobby for him - it was a way of life. He believed in the value of patience, respect for nature and the deep satisfaction of providing for his family the same way generations before him had done. Whether tracking a whitetail at sunrise or calling in a gobbler at dawn, Bill knew that the best part of hunting wasn’t just the harvest - it was the time spent in the great outdoors, sharing stories with friends and passing down traditions.

Bill was preceded in death by his first wife: Margie Denly, with whom he shared many cherished years. Later in life, he found love again and is survived by his devoted wife: Emma Denly.

He also leaves behind his children: Amie (Tom) Bradley, Billy Jo (Brian) Alderton, Roger (Rachael) Denly; his beloved grandchildren: Kristin Bradley (Thomas Brechler), Drew Bradley, Zach (Kayla) Alderton, Briana (Lawson) Wideman, Maggie (Willie) Moore, Alizah and Brooklynn Denly and great grandchildren: Quinn and Jade Brechler, Keaton, Sage and Baker Alderton, Aiden, Liam, and Evelyn Wideman, Fayth and Hayvn Moore, who will always remember his lessons on hunting, life and the importance of a steady hand and a patient heart.

He is also survived by his step-children: Jane (Bill) Trammell, Doug (Lisa) Gatton, Wilma (Jeremy) Moore, Jason (Angie) Gatton; step-grandchildren: Tara Gatton, Wyatt Gatton, Jessica Moore and Becca Moore; his brother: Robert Denly and many nieces, nephews and friends.

His absence will be deeply felt by his family, his hunting buddies and the many friends he made around the campfire and at deer camp. His stories will live on and his legacy will continue in every sunrise over the woods and every whispering wind through the trees.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 9, 2025, at Schmitz Funeral Home in Farmington.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 10, 2025, at Schmitz Funeral Home in Farmington with Pastor Chad Welch officiating.

Burial will be at Greenglade Cemetery in Farmington.

Though Bill has taken his final hunt, we know he now walks fields that never end, where the game is plentiful, the forests are peaceful and the hunt is eternal.

Bill was a true sportsman, a man who felt most at home in the woods, gun in hand, with the crisp morning air and the quiet rustle of the trees as his only companions.He was born on Feb. 27, 1943, the son of Gerald and Dorothy Schau Denly. Bill grew up learning the ways of the land. Hunting wasn’t just a hobby for him - it was a way of life. He believed in the value of patience, respect for nature and the deep satisfaction of providing for his family the same way generations before him had done. Whether tracking a whitetail at sunrise or calling in a gobbler at dawn, Bill knew that the best part of hunting wasn’t just the harvest - it was the time spent in the great outdoors, sharing stories with friends and passing down traditions.Bill was preceded in death by his first wife: Margie Denly, with whom he shared many cherished years. Later in life, he found love again and is survived by his devoted wife: Emma Denly.He also leaves behind his children: Amie (Tom) Bradley, Billy Jo (Brian) Alderton, Roger (Rachael) Denly; his beloved grandchildren: Kristin Bradley (Thomas Brechler), Drew Bradley, Zach (Kayla) Alderton, Briana (Lawson) Wideman, Maggie (Willie) Moore, Alizah and Brooklynn Denly and great grandchildren: Quinn and Jade Brechler, Keaton, Sage and Baker Alderton, Aiden, Liam, and Evelyn Wideman, Fayth and Hayvn Moore, who will always remember his lessons on hunting, life and the importance of a steady hand and a patient heart.He is also survived by his step-children: Jane (Bill) Trammell, Doug (Lisa) Gatton, Wilma (Jeremy) Moore, Jason (Angie) Gatton; step-grandchildren: Tara Gatton, Wyatt Gatton, Jessica Moore and Becca Moore; his brother: Robert Denly and many nieces, nephews and friends.His absence will be deeply felt by his family, his hunting buddies and the many friends he made around the campfire and at deer camp. Bill Denly

Janette Louise Wunderlich, 91, of Burlington, died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2025, at Bickford Cottage in Burlington.

Born Nov. 22, 1933, in Burlington, she was the daughter of William and Effie Stephenson. She married Dale Edward Wunderlich on June 6, 1954 in Burlington. He preceded her in death on May 25, 2012.

Janette worked as a secretary/ banker and receptionist for many years for Riley Bros., Farmers and Merchants Bank and Trust, First Congregational Church and Drs. McMurray and Zabloudil.

She was a girl scout leader and served on the church Diaconate Board and Mission Board along with being active with the Women’s Fellowship. She absolute loved animals and was a super proud grandma and great grandma!

She is survived by her two grandchildren; Stephanie (Jared) Heckart of Danville and Jacob (Alyssa) Orth of Burlington and four great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Cindy Orth, son-in-law Steve Orth and two brothers and two sisters.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11 at Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends. The funeral service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12 at Lunning Chapel. Pastor Jim Francisco will officiate.

Memorials have been established for the Des Moines County Humane Society or to First Congregational Church.

According to her wishes, cremation will be accorded following the funeral service. Burial will be held at a later date in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

He married Jill Ruschill and they were later divorced.&nbsp; Rickie worked at the U.S. Gypsum Plant in Mediapolis for 19 years and then had a few other Supervisor jobs over the years. Rickie loved watching any University of Iowa athletics, especially wrestling, and also followed Mediapolis High School Wrestling. He was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time with his family. Survivors include his brother, Randie Moler of Burlington; two nephews, Scottie Moler of Springfield, Ill. and Nathan Moler of Mount Pleasant, two nieces, Ashley Ruiz of Tucson, Ariz. and Lindsey Howe of Dallas City, Ill. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Ronnie Moler, and nephew, Brandon Moler. Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory. There will be no visitation or services. Prugh Funeral Service is in care of the arrangements.

Karen C. Anderson, 73, of Mediapolis, died Monday, Feb. 3, 2025, at Prairie Ridge Nursing and Rehabilitation in Mediapolis. Born July 26, 1951, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Richard and Kathryn Neal. She married Gary Anderson.

Karen was a proud homemaker and farm wife. She was born and raised a farm girl and enjoyed cooking and fishing. She loved to chat and was not known for a short conversation, she absolutely loved to socialize! Her pride was her family, and she treasured being a mom and a grandma. She was the kindest, most loving person and treated her children’s friends as her own. Karen did not know a stranger, and to know her, was to truly love her.

She is survived by her husband Gary Anderson of Mediapolis; two children, John Anderson of Sperry and Lynne (Brandon) Marquardt of Wapello; granddaughter Alivia Marquardt and a grandchild on the way; brother Laverne Neal; sisters, Lois Wyatt and Marcia Burkey and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel. Burial will be held at a later date in North Walker Cemetery, rural Mediapolis.

Ada Marie Massner, 99 of Mediapolis, died Saturday, Feb. 1, 2025, at Great River Medical Center. Born Dec. 7, 1925, at home in Oakville, she was the daughter of John H. and Bertha Gerst Wagenbach Sr. She married Earl Adolph Massner March 26, 1950, in Oakville. He died June 23, 2009.

Ada was a member of the Burlington Apostolic Christian Church. She was baptized Oct. 6, 1940 at the age of 14. After graduating from Huron High School, Ada took Business training at Burlington Junior College and worked for Schramm &amp; Schmieg until she got married. Ada was a dedicated caregiver to Her son Dean, who, from a young age was physically impaired. She lovingly helped him through school and dutifully cared for him until his passing in 2019.

She enjoyed being with family; especially her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include Dennis (Gail) Massner of West Bend; Carol (Joe) Bonnesen of Wapello, and Lyle (Deb) Massner of Morning Sun; eight grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Bertha Massner and Dolores Anliker, of Mediapolis, and Teresa Marti of Burlington.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Earl; Son, Dean, Grandson Jon Bonnesen, and Great Granddaughter Dahlia Bonnesen, three brothers, Paul, John, and Gerald; and five sisters, Barbara Massner, Edith Wagenbach, Emma Jean Lanz, Verna Woodward, and Dorothy Schulz.

The visitation will be held Tuesday, Feb. 4 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Lunning Chapel. The funeral service for Mrs. Massner will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5 at the Burlington Apostolic Christian Church. Ministers of the Church will officiate. Interment will be in the Apostolic Christian Church Cemetery in rural Oakville. There will be a short visitation prior the service from 9 to 9:45 a.m. at the church.

Rolla “Bud” Houseal Jr., 86, of Burlington, died Monday, Feb. 4, 2025, at Prairie Ridge Care and Rehabilitation Center in Mediapolis.

Born April 27, 1938, he was the son of Rolla Sr. and Fannie Houseal. He served in the Air Force from 1955-1959. He married Dorothy Burhop. She preceded him in death June 10, 2024.

Bud managed the Singer Sewing Machine store formerly on Main St. in Burlington. He then worked for J.I. Case, Iowa State Penitentiary and JCPenney.

He enjoyed woodworking, fishing and construction work, but mostly his passion was caring for his family.

He is survived by his two sons; Brent Houseal of Burlington; Brad Johnson of West Burlington and grandchildren Nellabel Houseal and Noah Houseal. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Dorothy, one sister Margaret, and three brothers, Richard, Kenneth, and John.

The graveside funeral service and interment for Bud will be 2 p.m. Friday, Feb,&nbsp; 7 at Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery. The Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard will conduct military rites.

According to his wishes cremation has been entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.

Richard R. “Dick” Penrod, 85, of Burlington, died Saturday, Feb. 1, 2025, at the Klein Center in West Burlington. Born on Dec. 15, 1939, in Burlington, he was the son of Ray and Vanessa Kimbrough Penrod. In 1961, he married Helen Morris, she survives.

Dick was a 1958 graduate of Burlington High School. He worked for J.I. Case for thirty years where he retired from. In his early years Dick enjoyed roller skating where he met his wife Helen, bowling, golfing and photography. His whole life he loved to go hunting, fishing and being outdoors enjoying mother nature. Most of all Dick enjoyed being with his friends and family.

He is survived by his wife Helen; nine children: John (Veronica) Penrod, Mike Penrod, Susan (Wayne) Hartman, Lonna (Doug) Boeset, Matthew Penrod, Luke (Wendy) Penrod, Mary (Jake) Whitehead, Cherry (Brian) Penrod and Amelia (Thomas) Penrod; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; three siblings: Floyd (Patty) Penrod, Elsie Stafford and Barb (Gary) Glendening. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Jim Penrod; sisters: Florence Bolander, Viola Patton and Georgianna Vantiger and grandson Christopher.

Per his wishes cremation has been entrusted and accorded to the care of Lunning Chapel.

A visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb.&nbsp; 5, 2025, at Lunning Chapel, where the family will meet with friends.

Kimberly&nbsp; Kay “Kim” Bush, 66, of Burlington, died Friday, Jan. 31, 2025, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington. Born July 2, 1958, in Houston, Texas, she was the daughter of Dean “Red” and Marion Airhood Hartsock. On May 26, 1978, she married Michael W. Bush in Burlington.

Kim graduated from Burlington High School in 1976, S.C.C., Iowa Wesleyan College, and received her Master’s degree from Western Illinois University graduating Summa Cum Laude.&nbsp; She was an Elementary Educator for 30 years retiring from the Burlington Community School System.&nbsp;

In her earlier adult years, she was involved in PTO, PTA and was a BCSD Union Officer. She loved shopping, traveling with Mike, their trips to the Caribbean and also to Japan. Kim loved gardening and especially socializing with friends. She loved to ride the Road King with Mike.

Survivors include her husband; Michael W. Bush of Burlington, her son Michael A. (Heather) Bush and their children; Michael and Alexander of Chapin, SC; daughter, Kristen (Eric) Durbin and their children, Broden, Brantley, Brooks, and Brynilen of Havelock, NC; step grandchildren, twins Tia (Shane) Cavanaugh and Anna (George) Coursey of Indiana; sisters, Kylene (Dan) Tillotson and Kambra McAlister of Burlington; eight nieces and eleven nephews; sister and brothers-in-law, Vikki Christy of NC, Kathy (Larry) Utt of Indiana, Steve (Joy) Bush of Arizona and Cris Glasgow of Burlington.

Kim was preceded in death by her; parents, in- laws, brothers-in-law; Mike Christy, Craig Glasgow, Doug Bush; sister-in-law, Cindi Bush of New Hampshire; and nephew Zachary Tillotson.

Melissa “Missy” Chipman, 53, of Burlington, died Friday, Jan. 31, 2025, at her home. Born on April 12, 1971, in Biloxi, Miss., she was the daughter of Michael and Beverly Strickland.

Missy was a 1989 graduate of Burlington High School and attended Southeastern Community College where she received her Associates of Arts degree. In her free time, she enjoyed reading fiction and mystery books and watching movies, especially Stephen King series. Missy was out going and always loved making people laugh or smile. She loved being a mother and grandmother. Spending time with family brought her the most joy.

She is survived by her life partner Don Chipman; daughter Ashely Ringold; two grandchildren: Noel and Raven; parents: Mike and Beverly Strickland; siblings: Chris Ringold, of Burlington, Angie Helderlein, Heather Ringold and Jennifer Ringold all of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents and her daughter Kayli Rae Ringold.

Cremation has been entrusted and accorded to the care of Lunning Chapel.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Jason Michael Patrick, 49, of Burlington, died Saturday, Feb. 1, 2025 at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center. Born Jan. 2, 1976, in Burlington, he was the son of Michael Patrick and Sue Claire Miller Patrick.&nbsp;

He attended Burlington Community High School.

Jason worked for the can redemption center at Hope Haven for many years.

He was a member of Danville United Methodist Church. Jason enjoyed shooting baskets, going to Geode State Park, fishing with his dad, and going to downtown Burlington to watch the trains pass through town. He loved Kirby vacuum cleaners. Jason had an excellent memory and could recall events from childhood that his siblings had forgotten.

Survivors include his brother, Jeff Krieger of Riverside and sister, Jill Lea Patrick of Cherokee.
