Born on October 10, 1947, Carl lived a life defined by precision, hard work, and a deep love for the outdoors. He served his country in the Army, was President of the IOP Rifle and Pistol Club, an avid competitive shooter, and a passionate hunter. He spent countless days enjoying the sport and camaraderie of his shooting community.

Carl retired from Case Corporation, where he worked as a skilled welder and inspector. He was a member of UAW local 807. After retirement, he enjoyed collecting coins and was a member of the Burlington Coin Club. He continued his lifelong interest in firearms by working from home as a federally licensed firearms dealer, sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm with others.

In 2006, Carl married the love of his life, Bobbie, and together they built a home filled with laughter, companionship, and firearms. They were members of Parkside Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Bobbie; his former wife, Len; his children, Timothy (Sara) Brooks, Stephanie (Ryan) Barngrover, and Rebecca Brooks; his brother, Rocky Brooks; and his grandchildren, Jamie Brooks, Miya Barngrover, Mason Barngrover, Bailey Brooks, and Bridgit Brooks. He is also survived by his step-son, Robert Sturms, and step-grandson, Kamdyn Sturms. Carl was preceded in death by his sister, Genevieve Carson, and his step-son, Billy Sturms.

He will be remembered for his warm sense of humor, his steady hand, his strong sense of integrity, and his devotion to his family and friends. His legacy lives on in the lessons he taught, the laughter he shared, and the countless memories made along the way.

But never forget: “If you can’t laugh at something, you are taking it too seriously.”

Visitation will be held at Lunning Chapel Monday, October 20, from 5-7.

A celebration of Carl’s life will be held at Lunning Chapel Tuesday, October 21 at 1 p.m. with a reception to follow at the Moose Lodge.

Clear "Carl" Brooks

Jean Kathryn Spencer, 98, of Burlington, Iowa, died Thursday, October 16, 2025, at the Klein Center in West Burlington.

Born December 1, 1926, in Capac, Michigan, she was the daughter of Howard A. and Kathryn Dana Smith. She graduated from Capac High School in 1944 and attended Michigan State University earning her AA degree.

She married Lowell E. Spencer on July 17, 1948, in Capac, Michigan. He died on May 7, 2005.

Jean taught at a country school for one year and was a homemaker. She was a member of Oak Street Baptist Church for over 60 years where she served as a Deaconess, Trustee, and on the Finance Commission. She was a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Richmond Chapter, Michigan.

She loved golfing, both at Flint Hills and Spirit Hollow with the ladies’ leagues, bowling on the J.I. Case Wives bowling league, bingo, and snowmobiling in Colorado. Her greatest joy was doing for others. This includes being a Cub Scout Den Mother and a member of the PTA when her children were younger and volunteering at the hospital in Burlington for several years.

Survivors include her four children; Dean (Mary Alltop) Spencer of Chicago, Illinois, Brian (Cheryl) Spencer of Long Grove, Illinois, Lowell (Julie) Spencer of New Hope, Minnesota, and Scott (Theresa) Spencer of Elmira, Michigan; grandchildren, Justin (Angie) Spencer, Jennifer (Marco) Weil, Melissa Spencer, Amanda (Matthew Callahan) Spencer, Jerrod (Chelsea Schnabel) Spencer, Christopher (Breanna) Spencer, Thomas Spencer, Dana (Tyson) Bossow, Jeffrey Anderson, Andy (Aubrey) Anderson and Tina (Jason) Davis; great grandchildren, Olli, Dante, Layla, Zoya, Isaac, Tatum, Blaketon, Isabella, Alivia and one great-great grandson Amir.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lowell, daughter Renee, three brothers and infant sister.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 23rd at Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday with Pastor JudyAnn Morse officiating. Burial will be held at Ferguson Cemetery in Almont, Michigan.

Larry S. Sterett, 92, of Biggsville, Ill., passed away in his sleep on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at the Henderson County Retirement Center, Stronghurst, Ill.

He was born on June 10, 1933, in Galesburg, Ill. and is the son of Hazel E. Sterett.&nbsp; Larry grew up in Biggsville surrounded by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and his beloved grandmother, Elizabeth Sterett.&nbsp; Larry graduated from Biggsville High School and attended the University of Illinois for one year and then Monmouth College, where he graduated with a B.A. in chemical engineering and education in 1956.&nbsp; He was inducted into the TKE Fraternity at Monmouth College.&nbsp; On paper, he only held a bachelor’s degree, but he continued to take classes each summer as he loved to read and learn.

On September 25, 1953, he married Betty Ann Themanson, at the First Lutheran Church in Danville, Ill.&nbsp; They were blessed with four children—Deborah Sterett of Jacksonville, Ill., Tamee (Dan) Renwick of Monmouth, IL, SSGT Ret'd. USMC Bradley (Carolyn) Sterett, of Swansboro, NC, and Brian (Nanci) Sterett of Biggsville, Ill.

Larry started his teaching career at Biggsville High School, later becoming Union High School.&nbsp; He taught for 37 years, retiring in May 1993.&nbsp; He taught advanced math, chemistry, trigonometry/calculus and physics.&nbsp; Looking back, his chemistry students could tell some stories of their many experiences from class…most being successful, but not always!! He also coached football, basketball and track.&nbsp; During his 33-year career coaching track, he had many outstanding track athletes qualify for the State Meet each May.&nbsp;

Larry was a lifetime member of the United Presbyterian Church in Biggsville and served as a Trustee, an Elder and was a member of the Great River Presbytery Synod.&nbsp; After retirement, Larry served on the Henderson County Soil &amp; Water Conservation District Board, the RC &amp; D Board, Henderson County Assessors Board and enjoyed helping with Special Olympics, IL Region, as a starter for track meets.&nbsp; He is also a member of the Outdoor Writers Association.&nbsp; Larry has been involved with the USS STERETT Ship Association since 1997 and hosted the last reunion of WWII sailors in 2003 in Springfield.&nbsp; He also continued his hobby of writing articles and book reviews for many national magazines pertaining to firearms and trap shooting.&nbsp; He attended THE GRAND until recently and greatly enjoyed the camaraderie of the event.&nbsp;

Larry enjoyed traveling to Canada and the western U.S. states with his family each summer, always camping along the way.&nbsp; His last big travel adventure was a tour of Scotland and Ireland in 2018 at the age of 85!!

Larry is survived by three children – Deborah, Tamee and Brian as well as seven grandchildren – Dustin (Helen Hare) Renwick, Emilee Renwick (Kevin) Caba, Ben (Dakota) Sterett, Sara Sterett, Mary Sterett, Andy Sterett and Johanna Sterett and three great grandchildren – Elijah Sterett, Clover Betty Anne Caba and Iris Elsiee Caba.&nbsp; Numerous cousins also survive.

He was preceded in death by his wife Betty in 2020, son Brad in 2018, his mother, grandparents, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.&nbsp; His beloved cat, Mother Kitty, and dogs Picabo, Lady, Metro and Buster Keaton also preceded him in death.

Longevity was common in his family (his grandmother lived to 104, and two aunts were 95 and 100), and we always thought he would live to be that young.&nbsp; &nbsp;Dad will be greatly missed.&nbsp;

A celebration of life for Larry and Betty will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, October 25, 2025, at the Biggsville United Presbyterian Church.&nbsp; Visitation will be prior to the service from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.&nbsp; Interment will immediately follow at the Biggsville Cemetery with fellowship and a luncheon to be held back at the church.&nbsp; Cremation rites have been accorded.&nbsp; Memorials may be given to the Biggsville United Presbyterian Church, South Henderson Church, or Monmouth College and sent to the funeral home.&nbsp; McGuire &amp; Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, Ill. is in charge of arrangements.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Patsy Moore, 81, of Macomb, Illinois, passed away at 11:49 a.m. Sunday, October 12, 2025 at Wesley Village in Macomb.

Patsy was born October 27, 1943, in Carman, Illinois, the daughter of Doren K. and Dora McIntire Hulet. Earlier in life, she married Leon Haines. He preceded her in death in 1997. On June 17, 2005, she married Everett Moore in Macomb. He preceded her in death on September 21, 2010.

Mrs. Moore was a 1961 graduate of Media High School, Media, Illinois, and attended Western Illinois University in Macomb. She worked several jobs throughout her life, including K-Mart, Italian Village, McDonough District Hospital and Methode; where she retired from. Patsy enjoyed flowers and gardening.&nbsp;

Survivors include one daughter: Kristine Gronewold; seven grandchildren: Brandon James of Macomb, Schyler (George) Lara of Macomb, Lance Haines of Macomb, Levi (Michelle) Haines of Corpus Christi, Texas, Laci (Clay) Herron of Carthage, Landon Gronewold of Carthage and Briana Haines of New Mexico; nine great-grandchildren; six siblings: Doren (Rosemary) Hulet of Ankeny, Iowa, Bonnie (James) Taylor of Blandinsville, Illinois, Richard (Joan) Hulet of North Port, Florida, Peggy (Daniel) Clark of Kirksville, Missouri, P. Allen (Martha) Hulet of Kirksville and Michael Hulet of Wapello, Iowa and numerous nieces and nephews.

Irene Anne DeVilbiss Martin, beloved Aunt, departed to her heavenly home on Saturday, October 11, 2025 at Klein Center with her family by her side.&nbsp; Born August 5, 1935, in Burlington, she was the daughter of John A. and Catherine Louise Koestner DeVilbiss. She attended and graduated from St. Paul's Catholic High School and graduated college at St. Xavier College in Chicago with degrees in Biology, Chemistry and Theology.&nbsp; She taught school for 14 years in both Iowa and Illinois which included Chicago, Davenport and Mt. Pleasant. Teaching grades from first grade through High School Biology. After teaching, she went to work for Arthur Andersen &amp; Co in 1973, working there for seven years and spent a year working in Switzerland.&nbsp; Irene married James Martin, a Chicago Police Officer, on February 14, 1981. Together they operated a business in Chicago. He preceded her in death. After Jim's death, she moved to Sparta, MO and operated another retail business for several years, before eventually moving back to Burlington to be with family in 2005. Survivors include her many nieces and nephews, which include; Catherine Nealey of Danville, Jean Frueh of Donnellson, Chuck Gillette of Donnellson, Teresa Abolt of West Point, Alec Rhea of Burlington, Alice Lawson of Kahoka, MO; and sister-in-law, Betty DeVilbiss of Ossian, IA. She was preceded in death by her husband, sisters, Marjory Hoff, Dorothy Rhea, Kathleen Rieke, brother, John DeVilbiss Jr and niece, Diana Thele. Norton Edward Sanderson, 92, formerly of DeKalb, Ill., died Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born February 27, 1933, in Decorah, he was the son of Carl and Selma Fadness Sanderson. On January 24, 1953, he married Norma Rose Solomon in DeKalb.&nbsp;

He was a U.S. Army Veteran, stationed in Germany during the Korean War from March 25, 1953 until April 8, 1961.

Norton retired from The King's Electric after many years working as an electrician.&nbsp;

He was a hard worker and could always be found tinkering in his garage.&nbsp;

Survivors include his wife, Norma Sanderson of Burlington; four daughters, Lily (Greg) Tayson of Burlington, &nbsp;Susan (Tom) Magnuson of Colorado Springs, CO, Michelle (Gary) Ryan of Boerne, TX, and Lisa (Chet Casey) Schwartz of Tulsa, Okla.; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Floyd "Tode" Wayne John, 102, died Oct. 8, 2025 at Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House, West Burlington. He was a man of unwavering honor, pride, and dignity.

&nbsp;Born on Nov. 28, 1922, in Centerville, to William and Claudine Tracey John, Tode lived a life defined by service, kindness, and deep connection to family and community.

Tode was one of nine siblings: Wanda (Frederick) Richter, William "Bill"/"Bus" (Elaine) John, Harold John, Claude "Babe" (Edna) John, Louise “Sis” (Jack) Jones, Paul (Kay) John, Leonard John, and Donald (Una) John.

On Jan.&nbsp; 17, 1948, Tode married Dorothy Cumpton Davis. Together they built a blended family filled with love, laughter, and hardship—weathering life’s storms with grace and gratitude. Their children include Richard (Marjorie) Davis, Gary (Jacquita) Davis, Janice (Charles) Davis Friedel, Carol Anne John, and Daryl John.

A proud veteran of the United States Navy, Tode served from December 1942 to November 1945 in both the Pacific and Atlantic Fleets during World War II. His commitment to his country was matched only by his devotion to those around him. Known for treating everyone with respect, love and friendship, Tode never met a stranger. His sharp wit, incredible memory, and independent spirit remained intact as he continued to live on his own and drive, right up until two short weeks ago when he entered the hospital.

Tode was a jack of all trades and interests and his years on this earth provided some amazing stories. From chopping &amp; hauling ice from the Mississippi River as a young boy, Bartending at “The Casino” for the Diewold’s in the 1940’s, Golden Glove Boxing Champion at 126 lbs, racecar driver, motorcycle enthusiast, butcher, line worker at JI Case / UAW 807 and eventually settling in at Champion (Federal Mogul), retiring Nov. 30, 1984 after 30 years of service.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, his wife, his children and three grandchildren, Dicky Davis of Galesburg, Ill., Timothy Davis of Burlington, and Pam Davis of Burlington.

Floyd Wayne "Tode" John

Francis C. “Ted” Cockrell, Jr., 77, of Burlington, died October 10, 2025, at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington, surrounded by the love of his family. A devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Ted’s warmth, strength, and unwavering dedication to his family left an indelible mark on all who knew him.

Born on June 18, 1948, in Washington, D.C., Ted was the cherished son of the late Francis “Ted” Cockrell, Sr., and Annabelle B. (Thompson) Cockrell. On March 7, 1970, he married Mary E. Orton. She preceded him in death on October 1, 2020.

Ted graduated from Burlington Community High School in 1966, where he forged lifelong friendships and a deep connection to his hometown. A patriot at heart, he proudly served in the U.S. Navy, embodying a commitment to duty and service that defined much of his life. For many years, Ted was a dedicated employee at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant, where his strong work ethic and camaraderie earned him the respect of colleagues and friends alike. In 2013 Ted decided it was time to retire after 28 years at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant. In Ted’s younger years he enjoyed bowling on leagues and served for many years as a Boy Scout troop leader in the 90’s. He and Mary loved to attend the Burlington Bee’s baseball games together. Every day Ted enjoyed sitting down and watching the television show Emergency and westerns, especially a good John Wayne western.

Above all, Ted was a devoted father whose love for his children was the cornerstone of his life. His gentle humor, boundless patience, and knack for storytelling made him a hero to his children and a beloved figure to his grandchildren. His legacy of love and resilience will live on through the countless memories he created with those he held dear.

Ted is survived by his five children: son Sean (Lynn) Cockrell of Southport, NC, identical twin sons Johnathan (Carrie) Cockrell of Ely, Iowa, and Joseph Cockrell of Laguna Beach, Calif., daughter Kerry (Mike) Robertson of Burlington, and daughter Sarah (Mike) Palmer of Middletown. He was a proud and loving grandfather to fourteen grandchildren: Caleb Cockrell, Alicia Cockrell, Mauren Cockrell, Molly Cockrell, Lucy Cockrell, Kylie Palmer, Dillon Palmer, Dawson Palmer, Samantha Robertson, Kaylah Robertson, Donald Robertson, Jemma Robertson, Anthony Robertson, and Mason Robertson, and a doting great-grandfather to Tyler Cockrell and Damarion Wright. He is also survived by his sister, Teresa Cockrell of West Des Moines, and numerous other extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents, beloved wife Mary, and sister Marion Bachtell.

Gerald "Jerry" DeHague, age 77, died at his home in Denver, Colo. on October 4, 2025.&nbsp;

Originally from Burlington, he was a proud graduate of Burlington High School, class of 1966. He continued his education at Western Illinois University in Macomb, Ill., where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Geography in 1970 and a master’s degree in Geography in 1972. He moved to Seattle, Washington, in 1973 to accept a job at the Southland Corporation (7-Eleven). He soon met Deby Reichman, and the couple married on December 27, 1975. They would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary later this year.

Jerry worked for three companies over four decades in the gasoline and convenience store business. In addition to the Southland Corporation, Jerry held positions at Total Petroleum and the Kroger Company, where he started the Kroger’s Super Market Petroleum Division. Jerry retired as a Vice President of Kroger in 2015. Jerry and Deby lived in Washington, California, Alaska, Colorado and France during Jerry’s career.

Jerry was an avid fly fisherman, experienced outdoorsman, and red wine connoisseur. He is survived by his wife, Deby, their daughter Julie A. Bellamy, son-in-law John T. Bellamy and two grandchildren: John P. (10) and Charlotte G. (7), who reside in Northern Virginia. He is also survived by three sisters, Vicki Starr (Steve), Karen Swank, Marla Crane, and several extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edith and Jack DeHague, and siblings, Judy Taylor, Jack DeHague, Steve DeHague, Carol Anderson, and twin infant boys, David and Dennis DeHague.

A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, October 20 at Lunning Chapel. The Rev. Father Jake Greinger will officiate. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m.

Richard P. Baker, 79, of Wever, died Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at his home surrounded by family.

Born November 7, 1945, in Knox County, Mo., he was the son of Lorraine H. and Naomi L. Luke Baker. On November 30, 1964, he married Jeanne S. Boyle in Danville.&nbsp;

He graduated from Burlington High School in 1963.&nbsp;

Richard retired after 50 years working for the Millwright Local Union 2158.

He was a hard worker who loved the outdoors. The year he retired he and Jeanne went fishing every day that year. But most of all, he loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Jeanne of Wever; son, Richard (Tammy) Baker of Ft. Madison; two daughters, Dawn (Ted) Greene of Phoenix, AZ, and Lori (Bill) Hetrick of Carman, IL; six grandchildren, Amanda, Brittany, Raquel, Brad, Katee, and Bailey; seven great-grandchildren, Kaleb, Dylan, Sophia, Mason, Naomi, Barrett and Bennett; one brother; two sisters; one sister-in-law; and one brother-in-law.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and one sister.

Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. with the family to receive friends on Monday, Oct. 13, 2025 at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.

The graveside service for Mr. Baker will be 3 p.m., Monday, Oct. 13, 2025 at Aspen Grove Cemetery. &nbsp;A time of food and fellowship will be held in the community room at Prugh Funeral Service following the burial.

Margaret Ann Parker, 89, of West Burlington, died Friday, Oct. 10, 2025, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born July 3, 1936, in New London, she was the daughter of Fredrick Donald and Minnie Rebecca Ruby Dietsch. On July 10, 1954, she married Louie Burdette Parker. He died Dec. 31, 2008.

She graduated from Harmony High School in Bonaparte.&nbsp;

Margaret worked for Fruehauf Inc. in Montrose for many years until her retirement.

She attended Bethany Lutheran Church. Margaret enjoyed sewing, tending to her flower gardens, feeding the birds and loved animals, caring for many strays. She loved spending time with her family.&nbsp;

Survivors include her children, Tim (Sue) Parker of Fort Madison, Trudy (Larry Jr.) Wright of Fort Madison, and Twila (Larry) Nall of Bolingbrook, IL; six grandchildren, David, Jeannie, Lawrence, Trinity, Ken, and Nikki; nine great-grandchildren, Jade, Jinta, Declan, Eli, Noah, Ava. Finnley, Odin and Ember and significant other, Larry Olsen of West Burlington.&nbsp;

Terry Eldon Garmoe, 49, of Burlington, died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2025, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.

Genevieve R. Brown, 91, of Wever, died Friday, Oct. 10, 2025, at the Birkwood Village of Fort Madison in Fort Madison.

Born March 11, 1976, in Monmouth, Ill., he was the son of Mark Eugene and Deborah Lynn Remick Bowman. On Aug. 21, 1994, he married Alicia Dawn Byers at Crapo Park in Burlington.&nbsp;

He graduated from Burlington High School in 1994.&nbsp;

Terry worked as a cable and broadband installer for 13 years. He also worked as a mechanic with his father at Bowman's Automotive.

Terry enjoyed playing golf, riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, and boating. He was a fan of the Dallas Cowboys and NASCAR and was a member of Abate 18 club. He was an excellent cook and had mastered the art of BBQ. He was a standup guy with a huge heart. He had a wonderful, deep voice that could soothe even the fussiest of babies. He was an excellent storyteller and enjoyed talking to everyone. The most important thing to him was family. He was a wonderful husband. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews and he held a special place in his heart for his dog, Thor.

Survivors include his father, Mark Eugene (Kelly) Bowman, Sr. of Burlington; wife, Alicia Dawn Garmoe of Burlington; four daughters, Samantha (Deonte) Thompson of Davenport, Winter Garmoe of Las Vegas, Nev., Sierra Garmoe and Kylie Garmoe both of Burlington; son-in-law, Will Hill of Fort Madison; eight grandchildren, Michael, Selena, Hunter, Isabella, Jaxon, Logan, Luke, and Everly; &nbsp;three brothers, Mark (Jo) Bowman, Jr. of Burlington, Clyde Farmer of Tipton, and Phillip Cox of Burlington; four step-brothers, Alan "Mikey" (Krystal) Stevenson, Jessie Stevenson both of Burlington, Jamie Stevenson of Carman, Ill., and Drayton Stevenson Bowman of Burlington; many loved nieces and nephews.

Rosemary Diane Luchner, age 89, passed away peacefully at home on October 5, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Visitation will be held at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division St., Burlington, Iowa, on Saturday, November 8, 2025, beginning at 10 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m.. Burial at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Burlington, Iowa, will follow the service.

Rosemary was born Oct. 10, 1935, in Burlington, Iowa, to Frederick Emmert Rowe and Nellie Florence Purcell Rowe. She married Henry Stephen Luchner on December 27, 1954, at St. Paul Catholic Church in Burlington, Iowa. Throughout her marriage, she lived in many places to include Maryland, New Mexico, Germany, Massachusetts, Alabama, Iowa, Virginia, and Illinois.

Rosemary was a devoted wife and mother. She cherished her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was always involved in her children’s lives and was often ferrying them to scouting, sporting matches, and church events.

She worked as an office administrator for Dr. Rollin Perkins in Davenport, Iowa, and was a business partner in Green Care/Turf Tenders Lawn Care Services in Enterprise, Alabama.

Rosemary had many interests. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, she was an active member of the Army Officers Wives Club, she loved to play bridge and canasta, and to do puzzles. She and Henry loved to spend time traveling in their motor home, especially to follow genealogy leads all around the country, and she passed the time by knitting and crocheting.

Rosemary is survived by her children Rebecca (Mark) Dawson, Stephen (Janice) Luchner, Michael (Daynee) Luchner, Timothy (Lori) Luchner, Thomas (Suzy) Luchner, Mary (Blaine) Wagner, Matt (Annette) Luchner; her sister Sharon Green; twenty grandchildren and thirty-six great-grandchildren.&nbsp;

Preceding her in death was her husband Henry, her brother Keith Rowe, and her sister Glenna Mehaffy. May they Rest in Peace.&nbsp;

Memorials have been established for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and Tunnel to Towers Foundation.

Pleasant, to Roy and Edna Scarff&nbsp; Garrels. On June 2, 1943, she married Glenn Edward Dockendorff at the&nbsp; Mt. Union Methodist Church; he died February 22, 2018. Mrs. Dockendorff was a 1941 graduate of Yarmouth High School and then&nbsp; worked at the New London Creamery. Initially, when Glenn joined the&nbsp; Army, Alta joined him in Paris, Texas, where he trained, and she worked&nbsp; in the laundry on the base. Once Glenn was shipped overseas, Alta worked&nbsp; for the Glove Factory in New London. Later, she worked as a homemaker;&nbsp; worked as a drug picker at McKesson Robbins; was employed at the Farm&nbsp; Service Elevator in Danville, and kept the books for Glenn’s Stanley&nbsp; Steemer business. She was a member of the Danville Methodist Church.&nbsp; After her husband’s death, she moved to assisted living in Omaha, Nebraska. She is survived by two daughters, Peggy (Charles) Overley of Omaha,&nbsp; Nebraska, and Kay (David) Wulf of Tulsa, Oklahoma; six grandchildren and&nbsp; nine great-grandchildren. Besides her husband and parents, she was&nbsp; preceded in death by one daughter, Mary Ellen Runnells; two brothers,&nbsp; Roger and Ronald Garrels; and two sisters, Erma Mertens and Blanche Allen. Robert Kracht, 79, of Danville, took his last angel flight on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at Allure of Lake Storey Care Facility in Galesburg. Born July 19, 1946, in Burlington, he was the son of George Wendell and Ellen Elizabeth Bliss Kracht. On April 25, 1969 he was married to Laura McNeill and they later divorced. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran, serving as an aviation fuel specialist during the Vietnam War from June 9, 1964 until June 7, 1968. Robert was a janitor for Danville Schools. Robert loved being outdoors and always enjoyed hunting and fishing. His most cherished memories though. were any time he was able to spend with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include two sons, Wayne Kracht of Fort Madison and Billy (Carrie) Kracht of Cassville, Mo.; 9 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and brother, Ken (Dianne) Kracht of New London. He was preceded in death by his parents and his ex-wife, Laura. Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory. There will be no visitation or services. Charlene Clark, 90, of Burlington, died Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born November 9, 1934, at home in Henderson County, Ill., she was the daughter of Rex and Esther Lachmann Mynatt. On February 21, 1953, she married Orren William Clark at Ft. Sill in Lawton, Okla. He preceded her in death on February 2, 2020.

She graduated from Stronghurst High School with the class of 1952. Charlene worked in inspection at Champion Spark Plug for 30 years.

Charlene enjoyed gardening, reading, fishing and playing cards. She was a frequent shopper at garage sales and resale shops. She loved spending time with her grandkids and great-grandkids.

Survivors include her son, William "Bill" Clark of Burlington; daughter, Vicki (Robert) Dunlap of Woodhaven, Mich. three brothers, Richard "Sonny" (Betty) Mynatt of Denmark, Iowa, Keith Mynatt of Laguna Vista, Texas, and Larry (Karen) Mynatt of La Harpe, Ill.; one sister, Carolyn "Babe" Bez of Fort Myers, Fla.; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; one daughter, Renee Sandy; one brother, Rex A. Mynatt; and one grandson, Garrett Sandy.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM Thursday, October 22, 2025 at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.

Dolores Loretta Bishop Markey, 86, passed away peacefully in the company of family and listening to her favorite music on October 2, 2025. Born on a farm near West Point, Iowa, on March 23, 1939, raised in Franklin, Iowa, to George Leslie and Barbara Denning Bishop, the eighth of eleven children.&nbsp;

She attended Franklin Independent School K-8, then Donnellson High School, where she graduated 1956. She went for one year of college at Keokuk Community College. &nbsp;

Survived by seven children: &nbsp;John Matthew (Pam), Maureen (Eric Higdon), Lydia, Michelle (Brian Butler), Mia (Eric Stuckey), Molly (Michael Shamashkin), Margie (Zack Snyder); eighteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Bette Thompson (Jim); and one brother Dale Bishop (Beverly).

Preceded in death by her parents, three brothers (George, Wesley, and Steve), five sisters (Rosalie Bishop, Ruth Farrell, Arleta Bishop, Marge Gunn, and Flo Bishop) and husband John (March 31, 2014).&nbsp;

Dolores was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dallas City, Ill. She served as Religious Education coordinator and CCD teacher for 21 years and was president of the Altar and Rosary Society twice. She was secretary of the PTO for 5 years, volunteered at the library for several years, was a member of the site committee for the new grade school in 1975, served as Girl Scout troop leader three different times, co-chaired the parade committee for the 125th celebration of Dallas City, was co-chairman of the Sacred Heart Church Centennial Celebration 2008, and served as Election Judge for Durham Township for many years. She worked outside the home a few times at the Lomax Canning Factory, Mobile Health, and at Casey’s as the donut lady. But her main job was wife, mom, and grandma. She was her husband John’s chore girl, both for hogs and cattle. After John retired in 1992, Dolores considered them very blessed in that they enjoyed almost 21 years more in a second honeymoon. They chored together, built fence together, cut wood together, and did housework together. She loved going on the 4-wheeler with John all over their farm and their son’s farm, taking care of the cattle. Her hobbies included reading, sewing, playing cards, and visiting children and siblings. She enjoyed making quilts for their children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. She made wedding and first baby quilts for all of her ‘Markey’ nieces and nephews—all 41! She embroidered sets of dish towels for her children and grandchildren as well. &nbsp;

A time for sharing memories will be held at 9:00 a.m. Friday, October 10, 2025 at Banks &amp; Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City; followed by visitation with the family until 11:00 a.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, October 10, 2025 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Carthage, Illinois, with Fr. Tony Trosley as Celebrant. A luncheon will be held after Mass in the Fellowship Hall. Burial will be at 3:00 p.m. in Gittings Mound Cemetery, rural Dallas City.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Delores Markey

Raymond Paul DeRosear,&nbsp;77, formerly of Primrose, Iowa, succumbed to rapid onset dementia at 7:38 a.m. Friday, Oct. 3, 2025, at Living Center West in Cedar Rapids. He was born on June 30, 1948, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the eldest of three sons born to Verle Vincent and Edith “Jane” DeRosear. As a toddler, he and his parents relocated to the Farmington, Iowa area. He attended school in Farmington and graduated in 1966 from Harmony High School.

While still in high school, Raymond enlisted in the United States Army Reserves and was discharged in 1975. In 1968, he began studies at Iowa State University in Ames. It was there that he met his soulmate, Paula Joyce Davis on a blind date. They were married on May 30, 1970, in Ames and remained married for over fifty-five years. In 1971, the couple moved to Primrose, Iowa, in order for Ray to join his father in his electrical contracting business. He became a master electrician eventually taking over the business upon Verle’s retirement. A serious fall in 1987 forced him to close this chapter of his life. Not one to sit idle, Ray returned to college, eventually establishing a building construction business which he operated until the late 1990s. At that time he was hired by Southeastern Community College in Burlington, Iowa to develop and teach a building trades program. Ray loved working with his students and became friends with several over the years. In 2010 he retired from teaching to devote more time to hobbies and family.&nbsp;

He and Paula traveled extensively for many years with their campers. In 2019, they sold their acreage and became full time RVers for nearly six years until his health intervened.

Living to cherish his memory are his wife: Paula of Urbana, Iowa; daughters: Jennifer (Ricky) Clay,&nbsp; of Pottstown, Pennsylvania, Anne (Scott) Selberg of Urbana, Iowa; granddaughter: Olivia Limas; grandsons: Spenser Limas (Lyndsey Payden) Vincent Clay and Liam Clay; great granddaughter: Charlie Ray Limas. Also surviving are his brothers: Ronald (Linda) of Farmington, Jeff of Colfax, Wisconsin and several cousins and nieces.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents; son: Pyter James at birth and beloved granddaughter: Alyssa Delaney Limas.

His body has been entrusted to the crematory of Schmitz Funeral Home for cremation.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Living Center West for the loving care given to Raymond in the few months he was there.

A celebration of life will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, October 17, 2025, at the Pilot Grove Savings Bank Community Room in Donnellson, Iowa.

Jacqueline Ann "Jackie" Johnson, 93, of Burlington, Iowa, passed away Sunday, September 21, 2025, at the Klein Center.&nbsp;

Born October 16, 1931, in Burlington, Jackie was the daughter of John A. and Dorothy Mary Detthof Dailey. On August 10, 1957, she married Hugh Rush Johnson, who preceded her in death in 2008.

A graduate of St. Paul's High School, Jackie attended Clarke College and the University of Iowa, where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in arts in 1953. Professionally, Jackie served as a speech therapist, substitute teacher, and survey researcher for Per Mar.

Jackie’s family was her highest priority and greatest joy. From celebrating 51 years of marriage with her beloved husband, to supporting her children’s activities (and their menagerie of pets, including Ranger the Raccoon and Jackie’s favorite dog Teddy), to enjoying time with her grandchildren, Jackie embraced family life with enthusiasm. Known throughout the neighborhood for her boisterous calls to dinner, Jackie’s abundant laughter likewise knew no bounds, particularly when she got to laughing with her beloved sisters.

Jackie actively participated in several organizations, including Divine Mercy Parish, Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary, Gamma Phi Beta Sorority, Legion of Mary, Des Moines County Historical Society, Questers, Shakespeare Club, and Friends of the Southeast Iowa Symphony Orchestra, where she previously served as a member of the board.&nbsp;&nbsp;

She also enjoyed reading and traveling in the United States and abroad. Notably, Jackie traveled to Europe as a young adult, visited her daughter in Paris and London as well voyaged to Ireland, Fatima, and, at the age of 89, completed a pilgrimage to Lourdes.

Throughout her life, Jackie maintained relationships with her childhood friends, sorority sisters, and friends from Davenport and Burlington, many of whom spanned the generations.

Jackie’s strong faith offered her comfort and refuge. She prayed not only for herself and her family but for all those who needed prayers.&nbsp; Her unwavering faith and, no doubt, continued prayers for her loved ones are a great source of comfort for her family.&nbsp;

Jackie is survived by her daughter, Maureen Ann Johnson of Sutton, NH; daughter-in-law, Cheryl Johnson Morrissey of Marion, IA; granddaughter, Courtney (Keoni) Johnson Koch of Springville, IA; grandson, Dailey (Taylor) Johnson of Madison, WI; four great-grandchildren, Leon and Loni Johnson and Peyton and Ronin Koch; sister, Joanne Bauer of Burlington, IA; sister-in-law, Eileen Johnson Prochelo of Sioux City, IA; and many beloved nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and son, Hugh D. Johnson; brother, Jim Dailey; sister, Mary Dorothy Knott; and several aunts and uncles.

Visitation will be Friday, October 24th from 12:00 (noon) until 5:00 p.m.. &nbsp; Following a rosary at 5:00 p.m., the family will receive friends until 7:00 p.m., at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.

The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection will be on Saturday, October 25th at 10:00 a.m., at St. Paul's Catholic Church with Rev. Father Michael T. Phillips as the Celebrant.
