Nick Brown, 46, of Burlington, died Friday, Aug. 22, 2025, at his home. Born Sept. 1, 1978, in Burlington, he was the son of Tim Edward and Gayle Allene Oldham Brown.&nbsp; Following his graduation from high school, Nick earned his Associates Degree from SCC. Nick worked as a machinist for a variety of different companies during his career. He thoroughly enjoyed his profession and was very passionate about it. Nick enjoyed target shooting, riding 4-wheelers and tinkering on his vehicles. He always seemed to be working on something. Nick’s greatest joy and proudest accomplishment in life were his three children, who were the center of his world. He cherished every moment with them-whether it was sharing laughter, offering guidance, or simply hanging out. He loved them with a depth that could be felt in everything he did. Survivors include two daughters, Morgan Brown of Taylor Ridge, and Gracy Brown of Marion; son, Michael Brown of Burlington, siblings, Lisa (Rob) Perrenoud of Mount Pleasant, twin brother, Mike (Carrie) Brown of Danville, Tim (Shawna) Brown of Burlington, Terry (Lisa) Saldeen, Bill (Sally) Saldeen, Bob Saldeen and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, and brother, Trent Brown. Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory. Prugh Funeral Service is in care of the arrangements.

Carl Leslie Turner, 70, of Danville, died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2025, at his home. Born July 11, 1955, in Mount Pleasant, he was the son of &nbsp;Leonard Frank and Kathryn Adele Hemmings Turner.&nbsp;

Carl graduated from Danville High School in 1974. He later attended trade school, Colorado Community College for gunsmithing in 1976. &nbsp;

He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving during Operation Desert Storm.&nbsp;

Prior to his service he worked as a mechanist at Heatilator. Once Carl returned to Southeast Iowa, he worked for Innovaire until his retirement.&nbsp;

He was a former member of Long Creek Methodist Church. Carl enjoyed fishing and growing hot peppers. He had a soft spot for cats, and took in many strays over the years.&nbsp;

Survivors include his siblings, Nancy (Dale) Knezevich of Duluth, MN, Dale Turner of Danville, Patrick Turner of Mt Pleasant, and Paul Turner of Las Vegas, NV; eight nieces and nephews; and numerous great nieces, great nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one niece.&nbsp;

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

Burial will be held at Long Creek Cemetery outside of Danville at a later date.

Marston “Marty” Wilmeth, 88, passed away on Thursday,&nbsp;August 14, 2025, in Arlington, Texas. Celebration Of Life will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at Trinity United&nbsp; Methodist Church, 1200 W. Green Oaks Blvd, Arlington, TX 76013. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trinity United&nbsp; Methodist Church or the Genesis Sunday School Class. Marty was born on February 3, 1937, the last born of the first set of&nbsp; triplets in Henry County, Iowa to Chauncey and Marie Wilmeth. He grew up&nbsp; in Henry County and attended Salem High School, where he met the love of&nbsp; his life, Louann Clark. The two were married on February 6, 1955,&nbsp; beginning a partnership of 70 years filled with love, laughter, and&nbsp; devotion. Marty and his family later relocated to West Burlington, Iowa, where he&nbsp; held numerous jobs, including his role at Service Master, where he&nbsp; became Director of Environmental Services. In this position, he served&nbsp; hospitals across Iowa and Illinois before moving to Texas in 1977. He&nbsp; worked at St. Paul Hospital in Dallas, where he received an Achievement&nbsp; in Excellence Award, helped launch Children’s Hospital in Houston and&nbsp; retired from Arlington Memorial Hospital in 2001. Outside of work, Marty had a deep passion for sports. He was an avid&nbsp; bowler, inducted into the Burlington Bowling Hall of Fame in 1976, and&nbsp; competed in tournaments across several states. He also loved golf,&nbsp; proudly scoring a hole-in-one at Squaw Creek Golf Course. Though he&nbsp; played in many locations, he always said that golfing in Fairbanks,&nbsp; Alaska, was his favorite. Louann eventually took up golf at age 70,&nbsp; joking, “It was the only way I would ever see him.” Marty was also a&nbsp; lifelong and devoted Green Bay Packers fan, cheering on his team through&nbsp; every season. Marty was a longtime member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where he&nbsp;served as an usher for 30 years and was active in the Genesis Sunday&nbsp; School Class. He will be remembered for his dedication to his family,&nbsp; his warm and welcoming nature, and his joyful spirit that touched&nbsp; everyone he met. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marie and Chauncey Wilmeth; and&nbsp; his triplet sisters, Marilyn Ladely and Marlene Reid. Deborah Alter, 73, of Burlington, died Sunday, Aug. 24, 2025, at the Arbor Court in Mount Pleasant. On May 17, 2003, she married William "Bill" Alter in Burlington.&nbsp; She graduated from Cedar Rapids Kennedy in 1971, where she channeled her love of swimming by competing in the school’s swim team. Deborah held various jobs throughout her career, including positions at Springhouse in Cedar Rapids, La Mont, Antennacraft, and most recently as a CNA at Prairie Ridge in Mediapolis. She had recently started attending First Baptist Church in Mediapolis. Deborah enjoyed camping, fishing, and crocheting doilies and washcloths. Deborah liked to cheer on the Iowa Hawkeyes, and her favorite holiday was Christmas. Above all, her greatest joy came from spending time with her family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Survivors include her husband, Bill Alter of Burlington; two daughters, Wendy Sims and Kelly (Gilbert) Noble both of Burlington; four grandchildren, Justin, Jeremy, Makinze, and Joseph; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Pam (David) Mehring of Cedar Rapids; and brother, Steven Dodge of Wyoming, IA. Deborah Alter

James Edward Carpenter, 68, of West Point, Iowa, passed away 7:36 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, 2025, unexpectedly due to cancer complications at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.

He was born on Dec. 8, 1956, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Edward D. and Louise Kaufman Carpenter.&nbsp;

Survivors include his mother: Louise Pieper of Fort Madison; daughter: Doris Kempker of Donnellson; son: Wade Carpenter of Olds and sister: Kelly (Carl) Bergman of West Point. Also surviving are several aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father: Edward; step-father: Harry Pieper and nephew: Eric Bergman.

Jim attended Fort Madison High School until the age of seventeen when he enlisted in the United States Army. He enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, fishing, mushroom hunting, music and riding his motorcycle. Jim especially enjoyed spending time with his mother.

His body has been entrusted to the crematory of Schmitz Funeral Home for cremation.

A private family graveside service with full military rites will be held at Oakland Cemetery in Fort Madison.

Rosie was an incredibly patient, thoughtful and kind woman. &nbsp;A long time member of St. John Catholic Church, her faith was very important to her. &nbsp;She had a deep love for her family and loved being a grandmother. &nbsp;Rosie enjoyed shopping, both for herself and finding gifts for her children and grandchildren. &nbsp;She always looked forward to babysitting her grandkids and making sure that everyone in the house was well fed - she was known for her cheesy potatoes. &nbsp;Rosie made sure that she was always in attendance of her grandkids sporting events and activities and was their biggest cheerleader. &nbsp;Her kindness and warm hearted nature will be missed tremendously, but her memory will continue on through all who loved her.

Valerie Robertson, 63, of Burlington, died Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at her home. Born Sept. 10, 1961, she was the daughter of Richard Sr. and Lela Robertson.

She was a graduate of Wapello High School and worked as a Primary Care Giver for Hope Haven (Imagine the Possibilities).

Valerie enjoyed camping and fishing and watching Sci-fi and Westerns.

Valerie Robertson

Linda Kay Cale, 73, of Burlington, died Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at her home. Born Oct. 19, 1951, she was the daughter of Richard and Mary Snowden.

She was a 1969 graduate of Burlington Notre Dame High School.

She married Robert Cale on Jan. 6, 1989, in Minneapolis, Minn. He preceded her in death on April 4, 2005.

Linda was the Owner and Operator of Old Stone Mill Antiques for several years. She previously worked for the Johnson County Environmental Department in Kansas and AmEx where she met her husband.

She was a member of the Downtown Partners (a division of the Greater Burlington Partnership) and loved listening to music. She was very devoted to her mother and her care.

She is survived by her mother, Mary Snowden; three children Kathryn Cale of Keokuk, Michele Cale (Jeff) Bullins of Kansas and Michael (Denise) Cale of Illinois; 10 grandchildren; two great grandchildren and several cousins.

She was preceded in death by her father, husband Robert and son Marcus Cale.

According to her wishes a private family graveside service and committal will be held at Aspen Grove Cemetery.

A Celebration of Life is scheduled for Sunday, October 19th from 4 to 6 p.m.&nbsp; at Wake N Bake located in downtown Burlington.

Memorials in her memory are suggested to P.A.W. Animal Shelter or Every Step Hospice.

Born Oct. 19, 1951, she was the daughter of Richard and Mary Snowden.She was a 1969 graduate of Burlington Notre Dame High School.She married Robert Cale on Jan. 6, 1989, in Minneapolis, Minn. He preceded her in death on April 4, 2005.Linda was the Owner and Operator of Old Stone Mill Antiques for several years. She previously worked for the Johnson County Environmental Department in Kansas and AmEx where she met her husband.She was a member of the Downtown Partners (a division of the Greater Burlington Partnership) and loved listening to music. She was very devoted to her mother and her care.She is survived by her mother, Mary Snowden; three children Kathryn Cale of Keokuk, Michele Cale (Jeff) Bullins of Kansas and Michael (Denise) Cale of Illinois; 10 grandchildren; two great grandchildren and several cousins.She was preceded in death by her father, husband Robert and son Marcus Cale.According to her wishes a private family graveside service and committal will be held at Aspen Grove Cemetery.A Celebration of Life is scheduled for Sunday, October 19th from 4 to 6 p.m.&nbsp; at Wake N Bake located in downtown Burlington.Memorials in her memory are suggested to P.A.W. Anthony Kastantin, 57, of Burlington, died Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington. He was born March 16, 1968, in Ottumwa.

Tony was a gentle soul with a great love of family, food, and music.&nbsp; His passion was food and he cultivated that passion throughout his life working as a Chef for over 34 years.&nbsp; He enjoyed music, wrote poetry, and played the guitar often.&nbsp; He liked having deep conversations to understand people and the world on a more spiritual level.&nbsp; Tony had a great sense of humor and enjoyed making others laugh.&nbsp; He looked forward to watching the Hawkeyes play throughout their seasons.&nbsp; More than anything, Tony loved his family and was a wonderful father.&nbsp; He liked being a family man and took pride in his role as a father, husband, son, and brother.&nbsp; Tony's loving and honest personality and his bright blue eyes will be missed deeply; but his memory and legacy will be carried by all who love him.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 25 years, Edith Kastantin; children, Brad Kastantin and Stephen Kastantin; mother, Jane&nbsp;Mondanaro Munn; siblings, Lani (Kevin) McDonald, Jason (Andrea) Munn, Andrew (Sara) Kastantin; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Rebecca Anne McCullough, 79, died Monday, Aug. 18, 2025, at her home in Burlington. Born Dec. 30, 1945, in Oskaloosa, she was the daughter of Alvin and Margaret McCaulley Adolphs.&nbsp; On Aug. 9, 1969, she married Michael McCullough in Oskaloosa.&nbsp;

Rebecca devoted her life to music.&nbsp; She obtained her bachelor’s degree in music from Drake University in 1968.&nbsp; She then worked as the orchestra director with the Burlington School District for over 30 years before retiring.&nbsp; During that time, she also worked as the choir director of the First Congregational Church in Burlington.

Music and family were Rebecca’s two loves in her life.&nbsp; She appreciated the profound beauty of music and used her skills to share her love with future generations.&nbsp; Her artistry also extended to homemade greeting cards, which she enjoyed making and giving out to those special people in her life.&nbsp; She enjoyed traveling and visiting family in other states or even going to important genealogical sights to learn more of her family’s history and heritage.&nbsp; She loved her family dearly and loved the time she spent with them.&nbsp;

Rebecca is survived by her husband Michael McCullough of Burlington; her daughter Heather (Troy) Smith of Burlington; grandchildren, Taylor and Shania Smith; great-grandchildren, Bentley and Mateo Smith; and sister, C. Jeanne (David) Patterson of Dubuque. She is also survived by many cousins and nieces, and nephews.

Sadly, she was preceded in death by her son Nathan Wade McCullough; siblings Constance Van Loon and Arlo W. Adolphs; and her parents Alvin and Margaret.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory. Visitation will be from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm, Friday, Sept. 12, 2025, at First Congregational Church (313 N 4th St., Burlington).

The memorial service for Rebecca will be 3:00 pm Friday, September 12, 2025, at First Congregational Church with Pastor Jim Francisco officiating.&nbsp; A time of food and fellowship will be held at the church following the memorial service.

Marjorie Louise "Marge" Classen, 84, of Burlington, died Friday, Aug. 15, 2025, at her residence at Addington Place.

Born Feb. 23, 1941, in Aledo, Ill., she was the daughter of Ronald E. and Louise M. Seiver. She was a 1959 graduate of Winona High School in Viola, Ill,&nbsp; and a 1962 graduate of Iowa Wesleyan, earning her Bachelor’s Degree.

She married Alvin A. Classen on June 18, 1966, in West Liberty, Iowa. He preceded her in death on Dec. 13, 2012.

Marge was a Science teacher for Burlington Notre Dame Catholic Schools for 18 years until her retirement in 2001.

She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church where she served as a council member, Sunday school teacher, and with Parish Life Communication. She earned the 1975 Outstanding Young Woman in Trenton, Mo., the District Award of Merit from the Boy Scouts of America, and served as the PTA President for Washington School. In 1985, she was selected for the NASA workshop at Huntsville, Ala. Marge was a water instructor at the YMCA for many years. She was a past director for the Burlington Women’s Bowling Association and earned the Secretary of the Year twice and the Merit Award. She was a member of the Burlington Bowling Hall of Fame and involved in the local chapters of Al-Anon and Alloteen.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary (Phil) Bisenius; two sons, Douglas (Lisa) Classen and Nathan (Dyneah) Classen; grandchildren, Travis Bisenius, Bryce Bisenius, Elsa Classen, Freya Classen, Willa Classen, Noah Classen; step- granddaughter Amanda Beeding; sister, Pauline (Fred) Lundeed; sisters-in-law, Mary Classen, Marjorie Seiver, Carolyn (John) Yeater, Viola (Chuck) Kemmerer; brother-in-law Charles (Carolyn) Gertz; special friends Lori Easterla, Angela Wolf, Mike and Diane Rouse and their children Devin and Sara and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Alvin, son Christopher Classen, step-father Loren Bates, brothers James Seiver, Harold Seiver and Richard Seiver, brothers-in-law Chuck Classen and Marion Classen, sister-in-law Wilma Classen, and special friend Carol Kreider.

He is survived by his daughter: Chenoa Spears; mother and step-father: Amy (Jeff) Krebill; father: James “Jimmy” Spears; brothers: Jacob (Addison) Spears, Elijah Spears, Joseph Krebill; grandmother: Vicki McDavid; grandparents: Mark and Ellen Meek. Thomas was an iron worker, concrete laborer and landscaper. He had a big heart and did not know a stranger. He loved his daughter fiercely. She was his world! Thomas loved ice cream dates with Chenoa, hunting, fishing, trapshooting with his brothers, enjoying adventures in nature and a good Sunday on the river. Most of all, he enjoyed time with family and friends. He was a master negotiator with anyone he met and a hard worker - full speed at everything.

Thomas  Andrew Spears

James Michael Livengood, age 84, a man of great integrity and kindness, passed peacefully while holding his wife's hand on August 12, 2025. Jim was lucky to live a full and wonderful life with his best friend, Mary June (McDonough) Livengood, whom he married in 1963.

Jim grew up in Burlington, Iowa, where his gift for conversation meant he never met a stranger. His word was his bond, and to those who knew him, a handshake from Jim was as solid as a signed contract. He was a master storyteller—whether in print, on the airwaves, or in telling long, laughter-filled jokes.

Jim was a proud graduate of Burlington High School (1959) and Iowa State University (1963), where he earned a degree in technical journalism and enjoyed camaraderie as a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity.

His career in communications began in 1958 at KBUR radio in Burlington. He recalled in a 1987 Hawk Eye interview, “I was hired Nov. 29, 1958, and was paid $1 per hour… It was the best thing that could’ve ever happened to me.”

Jim worked for The Hawk Eye newspaper in the summer of 1961. Following college graduation he worked for the Columbia Basin Herald in Moses Lake, Washington. In 1964, he returned to KBUR as an advertising representative, later becoming advertising manager in 1978 and, in 1987, general manager of KBUR and its sister station KGRS-FM. In 1988, Jim and his wife Mary, along with a partner, purchased the radio stations, returning them to local ownership for the first time since 1961. Jim and Mary retired after selling the stations in 1996 and were lucky to share nearly 30 additional years together with family, friends and exploring the world.

Among Jim’s many civic and volunteer endeavors were: Burlington Area Chamber of Commerce, Burlington Area Development Corporation, Burlington Medical Center Institutional Review Committee, Burlington Noon Lions Club, Des Moines County March of Dimes, GRADE A+, Great River Health Systems, Iowa Area #16 Adult Education Committee, Iowa Broadcasters Association (past president), Knights of Columbus, National Association of Broadcasters, Southeast Iowa Council Boy Scout Advisory Board, St. Francis Hospital Board of Directors and the Burlington Area United Way. He was also a 40-year member of Carthage Lake Hunting and Fishing Lodge.

Jim enjoyed camping, fishing, and duck hunting, and later developed a passion for snorkeling and scuba diving. He also earned his pilot’s license as a young adult and enjoyed flying his family. Jim also sailed competitively and leisurely, with the Virgin Islands and the islands of the Lesser Antilles among his favorite destinations.

Jim loved to explore and connect with the world through travel as well as amateur radio. He secured his first amateur radio license at age 14 and remained active for another 70 years. He proudly participated in a plethora of radio contests and some DX-peditions in remote parts of the world. He even carried a portable HAM radio in his travels to be able to transmit from other countries. His primary call sign was W0NB, which now becomes a silent key.

Always up for an adventure, Jim immersed himself in learning a new language in his 70s and hiked the entirety of the Camino de Santiago with Mary.

He utilized his time at home during the early days of the COVID pandemic to write a collection of stories. A family favorite passage in the book reflects upon the moment he first met Mary while he was crafting milkshakes at the Dairy Sweet when he was only 16. He said, "I think my heart did a flip-flop right then." They became fast friends and, well, the rest is a spectacular love story that spanned well over six decades.

Jim is survived by the love of his life, Mary Livengood; daughters Susan (Robb) Junker, Shivaun (Chris) McCann, and Jennifer (Seth) Baruch; grandchildren Alex and Nick (Grace) Junker, Keely and James Michael McCann, and Benjamin, Maya, and Olivia Baruch. He is also survived by his brother Tom Livengood and sister Kathy Livengood.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Mary Rita (Kelly) Livengood.

Jim will be remembered for his boundless curiosity, devotion to family and the way he made friends everywhere he went.

Respecting Jim’s wishes, his body has been cremated, and a private celebration of life will be held at a later date with “his girls” and their families.

James Michael Livengood

Terry Lee Gletty, 71, of Sperry, died Thursday, August 14, 2025, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born March 4, 1954, in Davenport, Iowa, she was the daughter of Raymond and Wilma Anderson. She married Rick Gletty on November 1, 1975.

She worked for Jack’s, Shopko and Walmart.

Terry had a very soft side that she hid very well. She was an avid reader of most any kind of book and especially liked science fiction and paranormal and jigsaw puzzles. She loved wolves, dragons and gnomes and truly loved all things Halloween and enjoyed sipping on Squirt, Busch Light, margaritas and most of all snacking on M &amp; M’s.

She was content living a simple life tending to her chickens and watching the hummingbirds. She helped host many family gatherings and was known to scare the little ones with a spooky story.

She is survived by her husband Rick Gletty; two daughters, Ammie (Nick) Shafer and Lisa Kreft (Charlie); nine grandchildren; three step children bringing six more bonus grandchildren and many great grandchildren; brother Scott Anderson and sister Barb Turner.

She was preceded in death by her parents, step son Daniel Reese and sister Deb Woolison.

The funeral service for Terry will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 18th at Lunning Chapel. Pastor Bill Ullom will officiate. The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. A luncheon will be held at the Drake following the service.

Memorials are suggested to the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House, ALS Research Foundation and P.A.W. Animal Shelter.

Cremation will be accorded following the funeral service and has been entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.

Sonja Kay Shipman, 80, of Dallas City, Ill., died at 1:40 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 10, 2025, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.

Sonja was born on Oct. 31, 1944, at home in Pontoosuc, Ill., to parents Floyd “Tuffy” and Elizabeth Nichols Maynard. She grew up in Pontoosuc and graduated from Dallas City High School. On Nov. 18, 1962, she married Henry G. Shipman in Pontoosuc. He preceded her in death on July 11, 2022.

Sonja had been employed by the Burlington Basket Company, and she retired from the Sheaffer Pen Company after more than twenty-five years of service. An active member of Grace Bible Church in Dallas City, Ill., she routinely helped with Vacation Bible School and church and community dinners. She also volunteered with the Dallas City Food Pantry and assisted with the Boy and Girl Scouts during her children’s youth.

Sonja started her days with a cup of coffee and reading devotionals. She loved hosting and cooking for her family and friends, and she also loved cheating them at Fast Track and card games. She enjoyed going for car and boat rides and camping. In previous years, Sonja loved shifting trot lines with her dad, Tuffy, and her sons, and enjoyed decorating wedding and birthday cakes. Most of all, she loved spending time with her large family.

Survivors include one daughter: Rhonda (Tony) Francis of Clarksville, Mo.; one daughter-in-law: Mary Shipman of Basco, Ill.; nine grandchildren: Jeremy, Jennifer, Josh, Ethan, Colten, Amanda, Steven, Lexis, and Arianna; a host of loving great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and one brother: Tom Maynard of Pontoosuc.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by two sons: Rodney and Steve Shipman; two brothers: Butch Maynard and one in infancy; four sisters: Dorothy Gilpin, Daisy Bundy, Marrietta Hnat, and Peggy Rockhold.

Sonja’s funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 16, 2025, at the Banks and Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City, Ill., with Rev. Larry Menschel officiating. Burial will follow at the Webster Cemetery in Webster, Illinois.

The family will receive friends from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday at Banks and Beals, prior to the service.

A memorial fund has been established for Grace Bible Church.

He enjoyed fishing, spending time outdoors, watching wrestling, and attending flea markets. Lynnette Suzanne Smith, 68, of Burlington, died Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at her home.

Born February 9, 1957, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Bernard and Betty Mary Kirkpatrick Smith. She graduated from Burlington High School and attended SCC.&nbsp;

Lynette retired from Champion Spark Plug after working there for about 20 years.

She loved gardening, taking care of her flowers, baking, taking care of her dogs Onyx and Dia. When she retired in 2002 she decided to head out west to Arizona and enjoy winters without snow. Lynette loved to go walking and hiking in the desert and lived there until she moved back home in 2014. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and playing with them.&nbsp;

Survivors include her son, Ruppert Spinks of West Burlington; grandson, Brodrick Spinks of Iowa City; granddaughter, Sephora Spinks of West Burlington; one brother and two sisters.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Dorothy N. Campbell, 97, of West Burlington, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 11, 2025, at her home surrounded by her family.

Born on January 25, 1928, in Fairfield, Iowa. She was the daughter of David and Goldie Anderson Tedrow. On July 14, 1956, in Fairfield, she married Victor J. Campbell Jr. He preceded her in death on April 19, 2000.

Dorothy was a graduate of Libertyville High School. For several years she worked for C &amp; E where she retired from in 1990. In her free time, she enjoyed crocheting, sewing, crossword puzzles and yard work. She was always looking for a good deal and enjoyed bargain shopping. Dorothy was always up for an adventure and loved to go on trips. She especially loved her stays in Florida. Most of all Dorothy loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by her two daughters: Linda (John) Latty of Burlington and Sharon Boley of Burlington; daughter in-law Lori Campbell of West Burlington; six grandchildren: Johnna (Darrin) Knapp, Emma (Justin) Latty, Janelle (Dan) Strait, Jordan Boley, Colton (Paige) Campbell. Jamie (Mandy) Zang and ten great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Victor; son Ronald Campbell; son in-law Kirby Boley; sister and brother in-law Mildred and Duane Cary; brother and sister in-law Vernon and Maxine Tedrow and her beloved dog Nila.

Cremation has been entrusted and accorded to the care of Lunning Chapel.

Margaret Ann "Margy" Poggemiller, 91, of Burlington, died at Klein Center on Tuesday afternoon, August 12, 2025.

Born on July 25, 1934, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Owen and Madelyn Stevens. On July 26, 1958, she married DeWayne Poggemiller.

Margy was a 1953 graduate of Burlington Catholic School. She danced for Hazel-Mack studios and worked at Sylvania before her marriage to DeWayne. Margy was a lifelong member of Divine Mercy Parish and a member of Divine Mercy Parish St. Theresa Circle. She was an accomplished seamstress and sewed several doll outfits. Margy also designed and created sweatshirts for her business, Margy’s Shirts and More. She served as a 4-H leader and always was consistent in donating blood. DeWayne and her loved to dance. She enjoyed reading and taking vacations, especially camping trips with her family and their close friends. Spending time with her family brought her the most joy but she loved nothing more than to make beautiful, fond memories with her grandchildren, whom she loved dearly.

She is survived by her husband of 67 years, DeWayne; four children: Steve (Tara) Poggemiller of Burlington, Deanna (Bill McCarl) Wiberg of Burlington, Kathy (David) Baker of Morning Sun and Mike (Christa) Poggemiller of Burlington; ten grandchildren: Brandon Bedenbender of New York, Ashley (Bill) Manning of Mattoon, Illinois, Emily Baker of Tiffin, Iowa, Danielle (Lewis) Lasauskas of Silverdale, Washington, Kyle (Alix McPherson) Baker of Mt Pleasant, Iowa, Jake (Paige) Poggemiller of Burlington, Clayton Poggemiller of Burlington, Andrew Poggemiller of Madison, Wisconsin, Michael (Elisa) Poggemiller of Cedar Falls, Iowa and Taylor Poggemiller of Waukee, Iowa; five great grandchildren: Tauren Poggemiller, Charlie, Jack and Patrick Manning and Florence Poggemiller; two step great grandchildren: Liam and Lilah McPherson; sister Pat (Doug) Reed of North Liberty, Iowa and brother Joe (Barb) Stevens of Burlington. Also surviving is one sister in-law Esther (Jim) Witte of Lake Havasu, Arizona and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters: Alice Corso and Mary Kelly and three brothers: Tom Stevens, Ownie Stevens and Stanley Stevens.

The Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 16, 2025, at St. John Catholic Church in Burlington with Father Jake Greiner as celebrant. A rosary will be recited at 4:30 p.m. Friday, August 15, 2025, at St. John Catholic Church, followed by the visitation till 7:00 p.m. where the family will meet with friends.

Interment will be held in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Spending time with her family brought her the most joy but she loved nothing more than to make beautiful, fond memories with her grandchildren, whom she loved dearly.She is survived by her husband of 67 years, DeWayne; four children: Steve (Tara) Poggemiller of Burlington, Deanna (Bill McCarl) Wiberg of Burlington, Kathy (David) Baker of Morning Sun and Mike (Christa) Poggemiller of Burlington; ten grandchildren: Brandon Bedenbender of New York, Ashley (Bill) Manning of Mattoon, Illinois, Emily Baker of Tiffin, Iowa, Danielle (Lewis) Lasauskas of Silverdale, Washington, Kyle (Alix McPherson) Baker of Mt Pleasant, Iowa, Jake (Paige) Poggemiller of Burlington, Clayton Poggemiller of Burlington, Andrew Poggemiller of Madison, Wisconsin, Michael (Elisa) Poggemiller of Cedar Falls, Iowa and Taylor Poggemiller of Waukee, Iowa; five great grandchildren: Tauren Poggemiller, Charlie, Jack and Patrick Manning and Florence Poggemiller; two step great grandchildren: Liam and Lilah McPherson; sister Pat (Doug) Reed of North Liberty, Iowa and brother Joe (Barb) Stevens of Burlington. Also surviving is one sister in-law Esther (Jim) Witte of Lake Havasu, Arizona and many nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters: Alice Corso and Mary Kelly and three brothers: Tom Stevens, Ownie Stevens and Stanley Stevens.The Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 16, 2025, at St. John Catholic Church in Burlington with Father Jake Greiner as celebrant. A rosary will be recited at 4:30 p.m. Friday, August 15, 2025, at St. John Catholic Church, followed by the visitation till 7:00 p.m. where the family will meet with friends.Interment will be held in Sacred Heart Cemetery.A memorial has been established in her memory for Sacred Heart Cemetery or Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center Home Hospice.

Margaret Ann "Margy" Poggemiller

Gary E. DeJaynes, 80, of Burlington, was welcomed into the arms of his loving savior, Jesus Christ, at his home on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, surrounded by family.

Born November 13, 1944, in Augusta, Iowa, he was the son of Glendon and Goldie DeJaynes. He married Roberta L. Dodds on December 21, 1968, in Burlington, together they celebrated 53 years of marriage before she passed away on April 29. 2022.

Gary was a 1964 graduate of Burlington High School. He was a longtime member of First Church of the Nazarene. He was the Owner and Operator of El Taco Casa along with his wife Roberta for over 50 years.

He enjoyed interacting with his customers, having conversations with them and seeing old friends. His lifelong hobby was restoring classic cars as well as motorcycles and was a constant participant in the Burlington Friday Night Cruise Nights. Most of all he cherished his time with his family and his grandchildren.

He is survived by his two sons; Jared DeJaynes of Burlington and Joel (Hadley) DeJaynes of West Des Moines, Iowa; two grandchildren, Harper DeJaynes and Callum DeJaynes; sister JoAnn (Lowell) Whisler of Altoona, Iowa and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Roberta, son Dr. Jason DeJaynes, three brothers, Chalmer DeJaynes, Arnold DeJaynes and Paul DeJaynes and one sister Glenda Steele.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Monday, August 18th at the First Church of the Nazarene in Burlington where the family will receive friends.

The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 19th at the First Church of the Nazarene. Burial will follow in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery.

Gary E. DeJaynes

Joan V. White, 94, of Burlington, died Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at the RidgeView Assisted Living in Burlington.

Born October 25, 1930, in Oakville, she was the daughter of Sherman Allison and Alberta Baxter Cook. In 1955, she married James Eldon White, but later divorced in 1972.

She was a U.S. Air Force Veteran, serving during the Korean War.

Joan graduated from Burlington High School and then earned a Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education and Music from Monmouth College.&nbsp;

She retired from the Burlington School District after many years of being a music teacher. Prior to that she ran the Macrame Mill in Burlington.

Joan’s passion for music was a central part of her life. She was an active member of Messiah Lutheran Church, where she shared her love of singing as part of the church choir. Her musical journey extended beyond the church, as she was also a member of the Bel Canto Chorale, the Southeast Iowa Symphony, and the Alumni of Monmouth College.

Survivors include three daughters, Kay (Jim) Barr of Cheyenne, Wyo., Gwen (Ron) Penton of Alamogordo, N.M., and Julia (Mike) Fox of Green Valley, A.Z., six grandchildren, Kristy, Janet, Jill, Kyle, Michael, and Robert; seven great-grandchildren, Justin, Mariah, T.J., Gregory, Lucas, Chase and Hunter.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Warren Cook and sister, Emilie Schultz.

David L. Maupin, 46, of Burlington, died Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at his home. Born October 10, 1978, in Burlington, he was the son of Bruce Edward and Joyce Marie Moeller Maupin.&nbsp;

He graduated from Burlington High School.&nbsp;

David worked for Hawkeye Group as a welder and fabricator for 27 years.&nbsp;

He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, rock hunting, riding four-wheeler and exploring the back roads, whether it was for mudding or just an adventure. Movies were another passion of his, and he had a knack for weaving movie quotes into every conversation. He cherished time spent with his boys, teaching them about the outdoors or showing them how to cook. He also collected coins, rocks and had an impressive collection of Cub Baseball Cards.&nbsp;

Survivors include his boys, Cole Maupin, Quinton Maupin, and Gavin Maupin all of Sperry; his parents, Bruce and Joyce Maupin of Burlington; sister, Gina (David) Sams of Argyle; two nieces, Addison and Kynzy; and former spouse, Gina Kennedy of Sperry.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents.&nbsp;

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
