Shirley Maxine Agnew, 79, of Burlington, died Monday, July 1, 2024, at her home. Born Aug. 15, 1944, in Mount Pleasant, she was the daughter of Dean and Maxine Conn Nelson. On Jan. 13, 1995, she married Rexford Lee Agnew at the Church of Christ in Burlington.&nbsp; She graduated from Burlington High School in 1963. Shirley worked for Great River Medical Center in the insurance department for over 30 years, until her retirement.&nbsp; She was a member of Church of Christ and loved to take care of her church and would even help clean. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and visiting and caring for her friends.&nbsp; Survivors include her husband, Rex Agnew of Burlington; step-son, Josh (Megan) Agnew of New London; two grandchildren, Ace and Asher Agnew both of New London; one brother, Don (Nan) Nelson of Broken Arrow, OK; two nieces, Dina Nelson and Danna (Doug) Townsdin. She was preceded in death by her parents.&nbsp; Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory. Patricia Ann Gerhardt, 88, of West Burlington, died Thursday, June 27, 2024, in Burlington.

Born Dec. 24, 1935, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Herman Herbert and Kathryn Mae Murphy Weicher. On November 13, 1954, she married Charles Henry Gerhardt in Gladstone, IL.

Patricia graduated from Burlington High School and later worked for the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant for 28 years before retiring.&nbsp;

Patricia never met a stranger and loved talking with others. &nbsp;She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. Patricia enjoyed crocheting, bowling, traveling, and going to Notre Dame high school games. She was a big fan of the Cubs. She enjoyed going to Little League with her grandsons. &nbsp;Family was very important to Patricia. She loved her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her great-great-grandchildren. &nbsp;&nbsp; Family include her children, Steven (Pamala) Gerhardt of Port Isabel, Tex.as, Cindy (A.J.) Kenney of Burlington, Kathy Hollenbeck of Burlington, and Michael Gerhardt of West Burlington, IA; twelve grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Teri; three siblings; one sister-in-law, one daughter-in-law, one son-in-law, and one brother-in-law.&nbsp;

Cremation has occurred in accordance with Patricia's wishes.

Patricia's family will receive guests for visitation on Tuesday, July 2, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Prugh Funeral Service (3940 Division Street, Burlington).

She will be laid to rest next to her husband at Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington.

Todd William Fowler, 58, of West Burlington, died Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at his home in West Burlington.

Born June 8, 1966, in Mount Pleasant, he was the son of Edward and Shirley Spurgeon Fowler.&nbsp;

Todd worked as a janitor as well at Hope Haven Client Recycling and Heartland Packaging.

He was a WWE wrestling fan and he liked the TV show "The Walking Dead". He enjoyed music, fishing, drawing, and collecting model cars. Todd had a huge sweet tooth and loved blueberry pie. Most of all, he loved his daughters and family. He will be remembered for being quiet and laid back but liked to joke around.

Survivors include his mother, Shirley Fowler of Winfield; two daughters, Renae Easton of Florence, Miss., and Tammy Weiler of Mount Pleasant; grandchildren, Cerena Easton and Willow Easton; four brothers, Rodney Fowler of Wayland, David (Susan) Fowler of Burlington, Kevin (the late Neta) Fowler of Mount Pleasant, and Ron (Dorie) Fowler of Winfield; and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, and best friend Jackie Braun.

Visitation with the family to receive friends will be from 9:00 AM until 11 a.m. Monday, July 1, 2024, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.

Timothy Lee Farrell, 68, of Corvallis, Oregon, died Thursday, June 27, 2024.

Born Sept. 29, 1955, in Burlington, he was the son of Lloyd K. and Patsy Arlene McCoy Farrell.

Timothy moved to Oregon as a baby and lived there his entire life. He was a resident of the Benco-Stone Street Program Group Home at the time of his death. Timothy was also a member of Trinity Evangelical &amp; Reformed Church of Portland, Oregon. His final resting place will be in Augusta Cemetery in Augusta, Iowa.

Survivors include his step-father, Doyle Ruble, Jr. of Burlington; brother, Michael Edward (Susan) Ruble of Bradenton, Fla.; step-sister, Sarah (Bradley) Sladek of Midlothian, Vir.; nephew, Tommy Ruble; and two nieces, Anna and Katelyn Sladek.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Aunt, Loisa Jean, and his grandparents, O.E. and Ruby McCoy.

The funeral service for Mr. Farrell will be Friday, July 5, 10 a.m. at Prugh Funeral Service (3940 Division Stree, Burlington). &nbsp;Family will receive guests from 9:30 a.m. until 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Augusta Cemetery, August, Iowa.

Herbert L. “Herb” Davison&nbsp;91, of Donnellson, died at 11:42 a.m. Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at Arbor Court in Mt. Pleasant.

He was born on March 30, 1933, in Liberty, Iowa, the son of Jesse O. and Pansy M. Huss Davison. On Sept. 4, 1955, he married Alice Mae Anna Windom in Malvern, Iowa. She preceded him in death on Oct. 11, 1922.

Survivors include his three daughters: Pamela Jo (Steven) Hennefent, Julie (Larry) Mohr, Amy (Rod Stone) Reid; seven grandchildren: Lucas (Kelly) Bennett, Nathan (Shawna) Bennett, John Larson, Mary Larson, Kelli Larson, Alice (Joe Cook) Reid, Cora Reid; ten great grandchildren; sister: Alice Woods. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife: Alice; brothers: Vern, Glen, Keith; sisters: Lucille Beasley, Donna Davison; sisters-in-law: Phyllis Davison, Darlene Davison; brothers-in-law: Everette Woods, John Beasley; nephews: Leland and Roger Beasley and Lester Davison.

Herb was a 1951 graduate of Osceola High School and a 1960 graduate of Iowa State University. He worked for the Department of U.S.D.A. Soil Conservation Service. He was a member of Embury United Methodist Church, George Washington Masonic Lodge A.F. &amp; A.M. #618 and Gillaspey-Moodie Donnellson American Legion Post #474.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, June 29, 2024, at Schmitz Funeral Home in Donnellson.&nbsp;

A Masonic service will be held at 11 a.m. by the George Washington Masonic Lodge A.F. &amp; A.M. #618. A memorial service will follow the Masonic service with Mark Philp officiating. the services will conclude with a flag presentation by the Gillaspey-Moodie Donnellson American Legion Post #474.

Burial will be held Monday, July 1, 2024, at Keokuk National Cemetery in Keokuk.

Herbert L. “Herb” Davison

Lyle Martin Christen, died June 24, 2024. He was born August 16, 1944, in Postville, to Elmer and Gertrude Christen. He was raised in Clayton County, IA, with siblings Linda Sharp, Mark and Edwin Christen and graduated from Garnavillo High School in 1963. As a child he helped his father and brothers with farming, and building various homes in Clayton County that are still in fine condition.

After graduation Lyle worked in different jobs including construction, for a mink farm, and for a cattle farmer, before he ended up working for various lumber/construction companies such as Meuser Lumber in Garnavillo, and Wickes which became UBC in Dubuque. In the 1980s, Lyle obtained a bachelor’s degree in accounting, at the University of Dubuque, and became an assistant manager, then manager for Wickes Lumber and UBC.

In 1966, Lyle met his wife Kyong, (aka Songhe), when was drafted by the Army during the Vietnam War, but stationed at the US camp by the DMZ in South Korea. While stationed there, he went to Seoul, Korea to sight-see. Lyle came upon a Tae Kwon Do demonstration and there he saw a five foot tall, 90 lb. woman breaking bricks with her bare hands and went to meet her. Songhe was a 2nd-degree black belt Tae Kwon Do instructor. Lyle dated Songhe (accompanied by a chaperon) while he served out his term of service and returned to the USA. Lyle then wrote back to Songhe and proposed marriage (Songhe had the letter translated). He returned to Seoul Korea, and they were married at the American Consulate on 8 September 1967. The marriage started in Colesburg, IA where Lyle was farming on rented land before getting a job at Meuser’s Lumber. Their marriage of almost 57 years started with Songhe not speaking a lot of English. They passed back and forth, an English-Korean phrase book to conduct arguments by pointing to, (probably stabbing at), the appropriate phrases for their own point of view. Lyle arranged for the Seminary in Epworth, IA to teach Songhe English (his daughter sometimes wonders if he regrets that).

They welcomed their son Kent, in 1970 and daughter Amy in 1975 and lived in Garnavillo, IA in a two-bedroom home. In 1977, his mother-in-law, Chong Kim, immigrated to the US with his sister-in-law, her husband and their four children. They all lived together until the sister-in-law’s family relocated to Dubuque, but his mother-in-law became part of his household (think Walton’s with a little bit of Archie Bunker). Until Chong passed away in 2011, she told all of her other granddaughters to find a husband like Lyle. Chong never learned English.

Kent became a commissioned officer in the US Air Force in1992. After 20 years, he retired from US Air Force as a twice decorated officer, Bronze Star, with oak leaf cluster. Kent now works for the Cedar Rapids Police Department to catch really bad guys. Kent married Amy Louis (nee Porod), and they gave Lyle and Songhe two grandsons, Phelan (23) and Gabriel (20).

His daughter Amy became an attorney in 2007. Lyle would tell inquiring people, “his daughter went to law school to be a “persecutor”, but now she is a “public Offender.” Amy works as a State public defender to free the wrongfully accused, first in Mason City office, then Davenport, and now in Burlington since 2018. (Imagine what Lyle had to deal with when his children were kids).

When Lyle retired from UBC in 2007 he, Songhe, and Chong moved in with his daughter, Amy when she transferred to Davenport in 2010. In his retirement, Lyle enjoyed time with his visiting grandchildren, improving his daughter’s home, and even stepped in as an investigator and testifying witness for his daughter during a criminal trial when she got ‘last second evidence’. (He was the only witness NOT cross-examined, and the jury acquitted his daughter’s client).

Most people think Lyle is a quiet, mild-mannered man, but he did have a steel under core of strength that would not put up with bad behavior to the point that he was not afraid to kick a prized bull that was trying to headbutt or bite him (he was fired for that) or put a literal, and righteous, foot/boot to the rear of his two children and one of his grandsons (the other denies getting one). Lyle also had a sense of humor and appreciation for facetiousness. He gave his daughter his sense of humor.

On 24 June 2024, Lyle passed away from Cancer, at home, with his wife and two children present. Dad-- Thank you for all you have done for us, and I hope we made you feel loved and proud. We will miss you always.

(He was the only witness NOT cross-examined, and the jury acquitted his daughter’s client).Most people think Lyle is a quiet, mild-mannered man, but he did have a steel under core of strength that would not put up with bad behavior to the point that he was not afraid to kick a prized bull that was trying to headbutt or bite him (he was fired for that) or put a literal, and righteous, foot/boot to the rear of his two children and one of his grandsons (the other denies getting one). Lyle also had a sense of humor and appreciation for facetiousness. He gave his daughter his sense of humor.On 24 June 2024, Lyle passed away from Cancer, at home, with his wife and two children present. Dad-- Thank you for all you have done for us, and I hope we made you feel loved and proud. We will miss you always.

Henry “Joe” Kimmel, 88, of Burlington, died Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Burlington.

Born Oct. 26, 1935, in Van Buren County, Iowa, he was the son of Henry L. and Rena S. Kimmel. He was a 1954 graduate of Burlington High School.

He married Sandra “Sandy” Russell on May 18, 1958, in Burlington.

Joe worked for Coca-Cola for over 30 years until the warehouse left Burlington. He then began working for the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant for another 12 years.

He was a member of Spring Grove United Methodist Church. His greatest love was his family and his wife. He was a “computer geek” and loved everything about computers, taking care of his yard and was always willing to lend a hand to help people.

Survivors include his wife Sandra “Sandy” Kimmel; two children, Jeff (Sandy) Kimmel and Tammy (Ron) Wunderlich; one grandson Bobby (Kate) Kimmel; three sisters, Florence White, Lois Swank and Barbie Siefken; one brother Lonnie Kimmel and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Don Rinaberger, George Kimmel and David Kimmel and two sisters, Betty Mae Meade and Mary Lou Haynes.

The graveside service and inurnment for Mr. Kimmel will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 3 at Aspen Grove Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for Spring Grove United Methodist Church or the Alzheimer’s Association.

According to his wishes, cremation has been entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.

Pamela Lee "Pam" Kempker, 63, of West Point, died Thursday, June 27, 2024, at her home.

Born April 29, 1961, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Charles “Slats” and Betty Wilson. She married Mike Kempker on June 16, 2001.

Pam worked as an office manager for Byrider in Burlington for over 20 years. She was an avid collector and enjoyed crafting, sewing, thrift shopping, fishing and traveling with her husband.

She is survived by her husband Mike Kempker Sr.; four sons, Dusty L. Roe, Michael A. Kempker Jr., Brian J. Kempker and Timothy Kempker and 19 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Tony Wilson.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. According to her wishes, cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.

Laurine A. "Rene" Skerik, 82, of Burlington, died Friday, June 21, 2024, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

Born Sept. 20, 1941, in Burlington she was the daughter of Clarence J. and Margaret L. Dunn Belger.

Rene was a graduate of the Burlington Catholic Schools and on Aug. 9, 1960, at St. Patrick Catholic Church she was united in marriage to William “Bill” D. Skerik in Burlington. Bill preceded Rene in death on April 8, 2006.

Rene was a Homemaker and a member of Divine Mercy Parish.

Rene’s passion in life was her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She loved attending all their sporting activities, cooking for Holiday dinners, and was a pizza expert.

Survivors include her children; Brian Skerik of Lombard, Ill., Debbie (Bob) Caffrey, Darren (Melissa Baker) Skerik, and Lisa (Dave) Weyls all of Burlington; grandchildren, Katie, Joe, Jenna, Josh, Jeremy, Nicholas, Logan, Tia, Brittny, Ali, Abby, Sarah, and Emily; great-grandchildren; Daeson, Koa, Rya, Andi, Mason, Noah, Addison, Isla, Silas, Sebastian, Auynx, Jordy, Hudson, Emma, Nicholas, and one more on the way. Siblings; James William “Bill” (Linda) Belger of Burlington, Phyllis Spilman of Mundelein, Ill. and Kathryn (John) Hertel of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and several nieces and nephews.

Lorraine E. Wirt, 91 rural Burlington, died&nbsp; Monday, June 24, 2024, at her home.

Born Oct. 2, 1932, in Burlington, she was the daughter of George Carl Niebuhr and Viola Louise Schwartz Niebuhr. She married James Wirt Jr. on April 8, 1956, at Zion United Church of Christ in Burlington.

Lorraine lived on her husband Jim’s family farm after they married. They retired at the end of 1992.

She graduated in 1951 from Burlington High School. After graduation she worked at the Northwestern Telephone Company and Yetter Oil Company until she married and moved to the farm near Kingston. She baked wedding cakes for thirty years, enjoyed going to Hawaii, her flowers and birds, playing Mexican train dominoes and her family. She was an active member of Kingston United Methodist Church.

Survivors include two sons Rick Allan (Sandy) Wirt of rural Burlington and Steven Wayne (Cindy) Wirt of Mediapolis; two daughters Debra Sue Wirt and Tamara Kae Wirt both of Burlington; three granddaughters, Michele (Colin) Gerst of Burlington, Jaci Wirt of St. Louis, Missouri, and Krista (Tony) Kempker of New London; four great grandchildren, Madison Paige Gerst, Kaylie Breanne Gerst, Ava Jane Kempker and Levi James Kempker; sister-in-law Donna Schrader and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Jim, brother Wayne Niebuhr, son-in-law Larry Burr, brothers-in-law Bill Schrader, Bill Foley, and Allan Wirt and sisters-in-law Betty Foley and Mary Tasker.

Debra Hensley, 71, of Burlington, died Sunday, June 23, 2024, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.

Debra was born Sept. 14, 1952 in Burlington, the daughter of George and Dorothy Brust Frey. &nbsp;Debra graduated from Burlington High School in 1971 and she later attended Patricia Stephen's Fashion Career College in Omaha, Neb. &nbsp;Debra went on to work as an auditor for 18 years at Champion Spark Plug in Burlington. &nbsp;Debra also co-founded the Shoquoquon Medical Assistant Chapter. &nbsp;

Debra was a laid back and easy going woman. &nbsp;She loved spending time with her family and going to various concerts in the Quad Cities. &nbsp;She enjoyed listening to Stevie Ray Vaughan and Aerosmith. &nbsp;Debra also loved to cook. &nbsp;Her memory and legacy will be carried by all who love her.

Debra's family include her husband of 15 years, Dave; daughter, Melissa (Brian) Petersen of Burlington; grandchildren, Carley and Lane Petersen of Burlington; siblings, Dennis (Tara) Frey of Burlington and Marti-Kay (Mike) Woodring of Ivine, Calif.; and sister-in-law Alice Hillyer (the late George "Footsie") of Burlington; niece Amber Almendinger and nephews Milo Benigno and Justin Frey.&nbsp;

Debra Hensley

Glenn Edward Mason, 83, of Burlington, died Friday, June 21, 2024, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born Aug. 15, 1940, in Mount Pleasant, he was the son of Glenn Eldwin and Eleanor Florine Mason. On July 28, 1962, he married Janice Mosena. She died on June 19, 1992. On Jan. 29, 2001, he married Debra Sue Jay Westlake. She died on Nov. 27, 2021.

He was a 1958 graduate of Burlington High School. &nbsp;

Immediately after High School at age 17, he joined the U.S. Marines. He was a welder and machinist on two ships. In his down time, he was a boxer for the Marines and claimed to win all his matches. He was a U.S. Marines Veteran, serving from June 10, 1958, until June 9, 1961.

Ed worked as the Quality Division Chief of the Department of Defense for the Army Ammunition Plant. He retired after 28 years.

He was a member of many area organizations, including; The Hamilton-Walters Marine Corps, American Legion, Trikers of the 3rd Wheel, Moose, Eagles, and Boy Scouts as a troop leader for many years. He was a pool shark and never missed a day. Ed loved to drive and would be the first one to volunteer to drive. He traveled with his wife Debra, all over the U.S to watch Rodeos. Ed was the original gadget man and was a collector of all things. He loved spending time with his three grandkids, Kaden, Kenna, and Kenli, and was even affectionately know as grandpa Ed to the daycare children. Ed never knew a stranger and will be missed for his jokes.&nbsp;

Survivors include step-daughter, Heidi Sue (Damon) Westlake of Burlington; three grandchildren, Kaden, Kenna, and Kenli Westlake all of Burlington; two sisters-in-law, Kathy Jay of Wever and Julie Luttenegger of Burlington; brother-in-law, John (Diana) Jay of Burlington; and cousins, nieces and nephews.

Besides his two wives, he was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Scott Mason.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m.with the family to receive friends Thursday, June 27, 2024, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.

Glenn Edward Mason

William DeWayne Obermann, 92, passed peacefully in his sleep June 25, 2024 in Mediapolis. Bill was born on March 9, 1932, to Alfred "Skinny" Obermann and Meta Hollingsworth Obermann in Yarmouth, on a farm where he worked and broke horses. He married Rosella Jane Massner on Aug. 24, 1951, and they had three children. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings Ruth Schnupper, Helen Berkshire, and Bob Obermann, his wife Rosie, a granddaughter Erin Obermann, and a great-grandson, Esco Obermann.

Bill will be remembered for his deep love of his faith and his family. He was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church. He worked a variety of jobs including school bus driver, owner of a dry-cleaning business and an insurance salesman. He was a lifelong learner, a lover of books, a singer, a handball champion, and a talker but also a listener. He had a firm handshake. He loved to have deep conversations and to ask thought-provoking questions. He loved challenging people and wanted nothing more than for people to succeed. His legacy will be the way he gave generously of his time, how he spoke to people and made them feel seen. He loved people for who they were and yet saw and encouraged the potential of who they could become. Bill saw possibility in every opportunity. He gave his loved ones a sense of belonging. He was quick to express his love and pride in his family. You need not question that you were loved by him. Bill never knew a stranger. If when you get to heaven you are met by all of the people whose lives you have touched, his line will be long.

Bill was born on March 9, 1932, to Alfred "Skinny" Obermann and Meta Hollingsworth Obermann in Yarmouth, on a farm where he worked and broke horses. He married Rosella Jane Massner on Aug. 24, 1951, and they had three children. William DeWayne Obermann

Phyllis Coryne Frick , 94, died June 25, 2024 in West Burlington.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Phyllis was born September 29, 1929 in Durant, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Selma (Kahler) Frick. &nbsp;She attended high school in Davenport, Iowa and graduated in 1947. Following high school, she attended cosmetology school.

Phyllis had a long and varied career, including work in the retail, restaurant, and hotel industries. Her eclectic list of jobs included bartending, being a switchboard operator, and working on the assembly line at the Army Ammunition plant. She was best known for her 27-year position on the executive team at the Holiday Inn in Des Moines, Iowa.

She was a member of the Christian faith and an active member of the Eagle Club, Moose Lodge, and VFW of Burlington, Iowa. &nbsp;As a person, she was extremely tidy, well-organized, and always put together. &nbsp;She enjoyed playing cards and lying in the sun by the river. &nbsp;She loved music, dancing (known as the Dancing Queen), playing bingo, and spending time with friends. Later in life, she continued these pursuits while a resident of the Klein Center. One of her favorite things to do was attend the Klein Center's weekly happy hour, during which she built relationships with other residents and staff members who became her extended family.

Phyllis was happiest when spending time with family. She was a devoted mother and caring grandmother. Her lessons, wisdom, and legacy will be carried on by her family and all who love her.

Phyllis’ family includes her six children, Dennis (Suzie) Frederick of Denver, CO; Ronald Frederick of Long Beach, MS; Wallace (Sherrie) Day of New Smyrna Beach, FL; Jay (Jill) Day of West Burlington, IA; Jinger Durbin of Gilbert, IA; and Penney (Daniel) Thurtell of Long Beach, MS; seven grandchildren, Danielle, Taylor, Jacob, Benjamin, Courtney, Conner, Drake, Jessica, and Brian; nine great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. &nbsp;Sadly, Phyllis’ is preceded in death by her parents and her siblings; Leroy “Sunny” Frick, Gloria "Bub" Ferguson and Eleanor “Jane” Moeller.

Visitation will be on Saturday, June 29 from 4 p.m. until the memorial celebration at 5 p.m. at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.

Phyllis has donated her body to the University of Iowa College of Medicine Deeded Body Program to aid in the continuing education of students.

Beverly Jane Koch, 91, died on March 24, 2024 in Phoenix, Ariz. She was born on April 22, 1933, to George and Dorothy Morrison in Burlington, in their house on South 5th Street. She graduated Burlington High School and married Richard Earl Koch on July 28, 1951. They had two children, John Koch and Elizabeth Koch. Her childhood memories of the Great Depression and World War II were laced with fond stories of her older siblings’ lives and loves, her father’s work as a train conductor, and falling in love while in high school with the man she would be married to for almost seventy years until his death on April 10, 2021. She was a bookkeeper for Mendenhall Oil Company and later, Cessford Construction Company. She had a talent for drawing and a love of the arts all her life as well as a gift for singing. Her love for family saw no boundaries, but her passion was the love of her life, her husband Dick Koch. She is survived by her son, John Richard Koch, and his wife Jeanne Koch of Phoenix, Ariz., her daughter Elizabeth Ann Koch and her husband Patrick Hansen of Alexandria, Ontario, four grandchildren, Michael Koch, Jennifer Koch, Iain Hansen, and Joseph Hansen, three step-grandchildren Christine Bosch, Jessica Decker, and Rusty Manning, six step-great-grandchildren, Carissa, Ares, Arianna, Landon, Kaylynn, and Isaac, sister-in-law Virginia Koch-Sturms, and ex-daughter-in-law Debbie Koch. Steven Lee Shipman, 57, of Basco, Ill., died at 9:10 a.m. Monday, June 24, 2024, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Ill.

Steve was born Aug. 19, 1966 in LaHarpe, Ill., the son of Henry and Sonja Maynard Shipman. On Aug. 8, 2008, he married Mary Manley in Plymouth, Ill. She survives.

Steve was a 1984 graduate of Dallas City High School. Following high school he worked for few years at the Nauvoo Blue Cheese Factory, Nauvoo, Ill. He then worked for Garylord Construction in Fort Madison for 16 years. He was currently employed as a mechanic at Forklifts of Quincy, Ill.&nbsp;

In his younger years, he enjoyed stockcar racing in the #88 car at Devils Bowl Speedway, near Ft. Green, Ill. and Lee County Speedway, Donnellson, Iowa. He was an avid outdoorsman, spending a lot of his time gardening, hunting, fishing, and taking fishing trips with his friends and family.&nbsp;

Besides his wife, survivors include his mother: Sonja Shipman of Dallas City; two children: Amanda McCarthy of Augusta and Steve (Jennifer) Shipman of Viola, Ill.; two step-children: Stephanie (Heather) Roberts-Wrenn of Ft. Campbell, Tennessee, and John Eshom of Basco; eight grandchildren: Cody, Emilee, Ambrose, Emelia, Adam, Colby, Fabian, and Izlonna; one great-grandchild: Ayden; one sister: Rhonda (Tony) Francis of Clarksville, Mo.; his father-in-law: John Manley of Basco; one brother-in-law: Robert (Linda) Manley of Basco; Lois (Dan) Kissinger of Kenai, AK and several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.&nbsp;

Chester Eugene “Gene” Bowman, 80, of Carman, Ill., died 11:58 p.m. Saturday, June 22, 2024, at the Roseville Nursing &amp; Rehab Center in Roseville, Ill.&nbsp;

Gene was born Aug. 14, 1943 in Carman the son of Chester A. and Stella Marie Stimpson Bowman. On June 21, 1966, he married Cathy Staub at the Stronghurst Christian Church, Stronghurst, Ill.&nbsp;

Gene spent all of his life in the Carman area. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army. Following his military service he work at JI Case in Burlington, Iowa. He stayed active in his retirement by working part-time at Doran &amp; Ward Packaging in Burlington. He enjoyed fishing and bowling. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and a member of the NRA and Ducks Unlimited.&nbsp;

Survivors include his wife, Cathy, two sons: Shawn Eugene Bowman of Dallas City, Ill. and Douglas Dewayne (Christy) Bowman of Nekoma, Ill.; three grandchildren: Emily, Bradley, and Brandi; one great-grandchild: Kennedy; two brothers: Steven (Terri) Bowman of Carman and Phillip Bowman of Dallas City; one sister Diane Bowman of Kirkwood, Ill. and special friends: Roger and Donna Schaley.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his parents: one brother: Edwin Bowman and two sister: Linda Weaver and Kate Cartwright.&nbsp;

 </figure>Chester Eugene “Gene” Bowman, 80, of Carman, Ill., died 11:58 p.m. Saturday, June 22, 2024, at the Roseville Nursing &amp; Rehab Center in Roseville, Ill.&nbsp;Gene was born Aug. 14, 1943 in Carman the son of Chester A. and Stella Marie Stimpson Bowman. On June 21, 1966, he married Cathy Staub at the Stronghurst Christian Church, Stronghurst, Ill.&nbsp;Gene spent all of his life in the Carman area. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army. Following his military service he work at JI Case in Burlington, Iowa. He stayed active in his retirement by working part-time at Doran &amp; Ward Packaging in Burlington. He enjoyed fishing and bowling. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and a member of the NRA and Ducks Unlimited.&nbsp;Survivors include his wife, Cathy, two sons: Shawn Eugene Bowman of Dallas City, Ill. and Douglas Dewayne (Christy) Bowman of Nekoma, Ill.; three grandchildren: Emily, Bradley, and Brandi; one great-grandchild: Kennedy; two brothers: Steven (Terri) Bowman of Carman and Phillip Bowman of Dallas City; one sister Diane Bowman of Kirkwood, Ill. and special friends: Roger and Donna Schaley.&nbsp;He was preceded in death by his parents: one brother: Edwin Bowman and two sister: Linda Weaver and Kate Cartwright.&nbsp;Cremation has been entrusted to Banks &amp; Beals Funeral Home. Chester Eugene “Gene” Bowman

Neil Darwin Stanbary, 93, of West Burlington, died Thursday, June 20, 2024, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born July 26, 1930, in Burlington, he was the son of Delbert and Dorothy Webber Stanbary. On Feb. 11, 1949, he married Marianne McMonigle in Biloxi, Miss. She died on April 8, 2019.

He graduated from Burlington High School.&nbsp;

Neil worked for Burlington Northern Railroad as a Forman for 35 years, until his retirement. He also owned and operated the old Harley Davison Shop on Mt Pleasant Street with his brother-in-law, Bob. Even after he sold the shop, he still remained a part of the Harley Davidson Community by being a mentor and mechanic at the Heartland Harley.&nbsp;

He was a member of West Burlington Christian Church. He loved racing or working on Harley Davidson's. He could always be found working on a bike or lawnmower. He enjoyed coin collecting, scratch-offs, reminiscing about his travels with his brother-in-law, Bob and playing poker with his kids and grandkids, even though he only like to play the show downs because he never lost. He enjoyed going out to eat with his friends and family, especially to Perkin's or HyVee. Neil will be remembered for never knowing a stranger and his memory test.&nbsp;

Survivors include two daughters, Gail (Jon) Beckinger of Biggsville, Ill., and Debbie (Butch) Smith of New London; nine grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; four step-great grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Susie Ricketts and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his wife of 70 years, he was preceded in death by his parents, son, Bill Stanbary, two sisters, Bonnie (Bob) Jones and Janice (Nimmer) Nasser, one great granddaughter and one niece.

Teddy&nbsp; Rex "Ted" Pearsall, 82, died&nbsp; June 19, 2024, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in Burlington. Ted was born Oct. 26, 1941, in Morning Sun, to Lloyd Demar Pearsall and Verle Irene Pickerel Pearsall.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Ted started working for multiple farmers at the age of 13 and later became a shop supervisor for Churchill Truck Lines for 27 years. He was known to all as a "Jack of all trades".

He was a Vietnam Veteran of the United States Air Force, where he served as a crew chief on a T33. He was also a proud member of the Shriners, 32nd Degree Mason, and a member of the Moose for many years.

Ted Married Linda Charbonneau-Schnedler, and resided in Florida for some time. They later divorced and moved back to Iowa, where they remained close friends and loved each other very much.

Teddy enjoyed buying, fixing, and selling things on Marketplace. His fur baby Baxter was his constant companion and went everywhere with him.

As his health declined, his daughter Terri took over his care and was lovingly known by all as Daddy's Girl.

Teddy is survived by two daughters Terri (Bob Dorothy) Self of Fort Madison and Melody (John) Meyer, of Lakeland, Fla.; one son Rodney (Kandi) Pearsall of Lakeland, Fla.; a step-son Kent (Sue) Davis of Logansport, La.; one sister Charlene Robinson of Knoxville, Ill.; a special niece Diane (Sam) Cherrington of Cameron, Ill.; three very special grandchildren Kristin (Jeremy) Sullivan of Knoxville, Ill., Tyler Hillery of Galesburg, Ill., Dakota (Amelia) Hillery of Helsinki, Finland, eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Teddy was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and two sisters.

The family would like to express our sincere appreciation to his wonderful doctors and nurses, the entire staff at the Hospice House, and his friend and neighbor Jody (Karrie) Jones.

Full military honors will be rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard 1 p.m. Friday, June 28, 2024, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street . Burial will follow at Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held in the community room at Prugh Funeral Service following the burial.

Teddy  Rex "Ted" Pearsall

Douglas Alan Fenton, 65, of Burlington, died June 21, 2024, at his home in hospice care surrounded by his wife, daughters, and family.

Born June 7, 1959, he was the son of Donald William and Doris Eileen Jones Fenton. On Sept. 26, 1981, he married the love of his life, Dawn Lynn Reverend at First Christian Church in Burlington.

Doug attended Mediapolis High School. He owned and operated The Roofing Company and Fenton Sales and Pawn since 2009. Doug enjoyed fishing and hunting. Most of all he enjoyed teaching these skills to his daughters and grandchildren. He enjoyed being race car driver and loved watching racing, hunting and fishing shows.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Dawn; three daughters: Dustina Fenton, Danielle Fenton and Dakoah Fenton; three grandchildren: Dawnyel Fenton, Danica Goble and Douglas Wasson; two brothers: Donald D. Fenton and Dwayne P. (Kerri) Fenton. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, cousins, brother Dean W. Fenton and Christopher Fenton.

Per his wishes, Doug gave the gift of sight through tissue donation. Cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington.
