Valeria Marie Szewczyk , 52, of Burlington, died Saturday, April 29, 2023, at her home.&nbsp;

Born April 3, 1971, in Aledo, Ill., she was the daughter of Peggy Harmon. On May 4, 2013, she married Chad Szewczyk in Burlington.

She was a graduate of Aledo High School and attended Black Hawk College.

Valeria worked at Aledo Genesis Medical and then as an office manager for Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center.

She enjoyed singing and spending time with her grandchildren and fur babies.&nbsp;

Survivors include her husband; daughter, Megan (Brent) Shearer of New Boston, Ill., and their children, Alyvia, Dylan, Ayden, and Owen; son, Aaron (Jessica) Bigger of New Boston, Ill. and their child, Bentley; and daughter, Hannah Bigger of New Boston; sister, Teresa (Montie) Schell of New Boston; uncle Delmar Harmon; aunt Mary Brasmer and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother, two aunts, Donna and Marge, one uncle, Bob, and her mother-in-law, Shirley McDonald. &nbsp;&nbsp;

Susan K. Phillips, 80, of Burlington, died Friday, Nov. 11, 2022, at the Klein Center in West Burlington.

Born May 22, 1942, in Marshalltown, &nbsp;she was the daughter of Cecil Emerson and Bertha Hauder Biklen Orr. She attended Burlington Schools graduating from Burlington High School in 1960 and then went to the University of Iowa where she received her nursing certification and her business Bachelor's Degree.&nbsp; She was married to John David Killian in 1962, and they had their first son Marc David Killian in August of 1963.

The family then moved to Ann Arbor Michigan where she worked at Ypsilanti State Hospital as a psychiatric nurse.&nbsp; Susan and David had their second son Peter James in June of 1967.&nbsp; Susan and David separated amicable in 1971 and continued to coparent their two boys.&nbsp; She continued to work as a psychiatric nurse and supervisor until 1976 when she moved to Ojai California for a fresh start and to provide better education for Marc and Peter.

In California she began a career as a counselor and hypnotherapist helping people lose weight, stop smoking, and overcome traumatic past experiences.&nbsp; During this time, she was very dedicated to raising her two sons and helping people overcome their difficulties through her counseling.&nbsp; She worked as a therapist until 1988 when she moved back to Burlington briefly to help her aging parents relocate to an assisted living facility in Milwaukee Wisconsin where she continued to reside along with her sister Janet and her husband David Dahl.

Two years prior to moving to help her parents her oldest son Marc was killed in an automobile accident on October 16, 1986.&nbsp; She was of tremendous comfort to her youngest son, ex-husband David, and all of Marc’s many close friends during this time.&nbsp; She chose to view this tragic death as the unfolding of&nbsp;God’s plan and was an inspiration to her son, his father, and even to the driver who was at fault.&nbsp; She demonstrated absolute love, trust in God, and dedication for the well-being of her family during this time.&nbsp; She allowed the family to heal and make sense of this tremendous loss.

In Milwaukee she and one of her close friends opened a care facility for disabled elders and oversaw the care and management of this facility.&nbsp; They were almost immediately at full capacity and had a long waiting list given the outstanding care that was provided to the patients.&nbsp; She stepped away from the day-to-day management of this facility after 8 years and moved on to begin a new business in home rentals in Wisconsin.&nbsp; Unfortunately, this venture was not as successful given her kind and generous nature.&nbsp; She did not have the capacity to be a tough landlord when it required displacing people from their homes when they could not pay rent.&nbsp; She realized this and had the insight to step away from this business.

Over all these years she kept in touch and talked regularly to her clients from her old counseling practice because she genuinely cared for them.&nbsp; She did this free of charge and out of love and dedication to these people that she felt responsible for.

In 2016 she found a wonderful partner and kindred spirit in Bill Ell of Burlington. In 2017 Susan moved back to Burlington, Iowa where she spent her final years with her partner, Bill. In 2021 she went to the Klein Center in West Burlington, where she resided until her passing.&nbsp;

Susan attended Zion United Church of Christ. She enjoyed nature, gardening, flowers and reading. Susan would frequently like to collect leaves in the fall and also enjoyed collecting small realistic looking rabbits. She worked hard all her life to do what was right. Susan was always willing to look at the adversities in her life as openings for her own personal growth.

Survivors include her son, Peter (Jennifer) Killian of Eagle, Idaho; three grandchildren Roan, Cade and Niall; and her partner, Bill Ell of Burlington.

She was preceded in death by her son Marc, parents, brother, Jim Orr, and sister, Janet Dahl and her husband, David.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

The celebration of life for Susan will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 20, 2023, at Zion United Church of Christ with Reverend Carolyn Blair officiating. A reception will follow the service at Zion United Church of Christ.

Darlene Alice Wolfe, 94, of Burlington, died Saturday, April 29, 2023, at Klein Center in West Burlington.

Born, Feb. 16, 1929, in Roland, she was the daughter of Morris “Tiny” and Hazel Rasmussen Hill. On June 4, 1948, Darlene was married to John Wolfe at First United Methodist Church Parsonage by Reverend John Poole. John died Dec. 16, 2011.

Darlene attended Roland Iowa grade school and graduated from Burlington High School.

Darlene worked at Sylvania Electric, IRC and as the postmaster of the Sperry post office until her retirement. She was a previous member of Sperry United Methodist Church and most recently a member of Grace United Methodist Church.

Darlene was a member of Moose Lodge #579. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and bird watching. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and she liked to listen to country western music.

She and John lived and farmed in Winfield and Sperry before moving to Burlington.

Survivors include two sons John (Terrie) Wolfe of Ames, and Gary Wolfe of Burlington; two daughters Sue Wolfe and Patty (James) Russell both of Burlington; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren with two adopted children on the way; three sisters Delores Lee of Phoenix, Ariz.; Janet Bowman and Carol Carns of Burlington; two brothers Bob Hill of Burlington and Morris Hill Jr. of Newton, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

The funeral for Darlene will be 10 a.m. Friday, May 5 at Lunning Chapel with Reverend Tamara Wirt officiating. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. The visitation will be 9 a.m. until the time of service on Friday.

Donald Dean Nafziger, 76, of Danville, Iowa died Thursday, April 27, 2023, from cancer, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington, Iowa. &nbsp; He was born on May 18, 1946, to Menno and Anna Rich Nafziger.

Don graduated from West Burlington High School in 1964. He served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War and was stationed in Taiwan and Okinawa as a firefighter. He earned the rank of Sgt. and was honorably discharged in 1969.&nbsp; On Aug. 26, 1972, he married Wanda Johnson in West Burlington. They were married for fifty years.&nbsp; Don was employed at Security Lab, worked in construction, Burlington Trailways and Centre States.&nbsp; Some of Don's favorite pastimes were fishing, deer hunting, bowling, yard selling, flea markets, garden­ing, and talking to people - he didn't know a stranger. He is survived by his wife, Wanda; a sister, Janet (Richard) Hagemeier; a granddaughter, Leah Cupples of Newton; a grandson, Jacob Mettler of New London; two great grandsons, Rylan Cupples and Ryder Hoffman of Newton; and numerous nieces and nephews.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by a stepson, Brian Johnson, his brothers, Ed, Rex, Dwight, Arlie, Charles and Larry Nafziger, and sisters, Helen Riley, Betty Nafziger, Mildred Waterman, Joan Nafziger, Mary Wagner and Nancy Oster.&nbsp; Prugh Funeral Service is in care of arrangements. Keegan Scott Miller, 7, of New London, died Thursday, April 27, 2023, at his home.

Born Oct. 4, 2015, in Mount Pleasant, he was the son of Bradley Michael Miller and Brittany Megan Hamann Noble. He was of the Christian faith.

Keegan was in the first grade at Clark Elementary School in New London. He loved to play Minecraft, watch Pokemon and Bluey. Keegan enjoyed music and really loved to sing. He even learned the planets of the solar system by singing. Keegan was very interested in the Solar System and Space.

Survivors include his mother and step-father Brittany and Jake Noble of New London; father Bradley M. Miller of Mediapolis; brother Rex Noble of New London; grandparents Sharon and Dennis Detrick of Mount Pleasant, Brenda and Steve Strothoff of Mediapolis, Dan Noble of New London and Coty Parker of Mount Pleasant; great grandmother Ann Edwards of Washington, Iowa. and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Keegan was preceded in death by his grandfather Bryan Miller and Aunt Jennifer Box.

Victor Rudolph Clegg Sr., 88, of Burlington, Iowa died April 26, 2023 in Kansas City, Mo.

Born Sept. 10, 1934 in Poplar Bluff, Mo., he was the son of Vernon Giles and Lillie Mae Rankin. Victor was raised by his step-father Curtis Clegg.

He attended Burlington High School, but received his diploma while serving in the U.S. Air Force. He enlisted in August of 1952 and was honorably discharged as Airman 1st Class in May of 1963. Following service to his country, he became a machine shop setup and repairman at JI Case Company.

He was a member of U.A.W Local 807 Union, V.F.W Post 10102 and Union Baptist Full Gospel Fellowship Church. Victor enjoyed life and family. He was an artist who expressed his talent in paintings, drawings and photography. In his later years he volunteered at a Senior Center where he was loved by all.

Survivors include his daughters, Helene Clegg of Clarksville Tenn., Yolanda Brown of Aubrey Texas, Brigitte (Jason)&nbsp;Thomas of Kansas City Mo., Davota Clegg of Detroit Mich., and Vernet Bright (Scott) Diehl of Burlington; sons, Victor Clegg Jr of Cedar Rapids and Louis (Vivan) Clegg of Phoenix Ariz.; 16 grandchildren; 18 (soon to be 19) great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Sandra Sands of Miami, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by both his parents, his sister and one son.

Visitation will be from noon until 7 p.m. with the family to receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 3, 2023 at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.

John Wayne Ibbotson, 80, of Burlington, died Thursday, April 27, 2023, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington. John Wayne Ibbotson

Eugene William Krogmeier, 77, of Danville, died Thursday, April 13, 2023, at his home.

Gene was born in Burlington on February 5, 1946, the son of Albert Joseph and Darlene Hester Krogmeier.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was a 1965 graduate of Burlington High School.&nbsp;&nbsp;On August 14, 1965, he married Nancy Sue Gray in Burlington and he was very proud that they had been married for 57 years.&nbsp;&nbsp;He had worked at the Danville Elevator for 35 years, through numerous owners, and also had been farming for 55 years.

Gene was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Burlington and a member of the Geode Houndsman Club.&nbsp;&nbsp;He enjoyed baling hay, coon and coyote hunting, his Danville morning coffee club, and most of all, his family.

Gene is survived by his wife of Danville; daughters, Julie (John) Robinson of Chicago, and Shelly (Chris) Mortensen of Dwight, Ill.; sons, Richard (Amy) Krogmeier of Burlington, Ryan (Ami) Krogmeier of Webster City; brothers, Gary (Dale) Krogmeier of New London, Ed Krogmeier of Burlington; sisters, Sharon (Terry) Wiley and Cindy (Wayne) Bowen, both of Burlington; grandchildren, Blake (Lindsey) Clark, Bryce (Jenna) Mortensen, Reece Mortensen, Gabe, Mason and Avery Krogmeier; many great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Betty Jean Larsen, 87, of Burlington, died Saturday, April 22, 2023, at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center, West Burlington.

Born May 19, 1935 in Mount Pleasant, she was the daughter of Ralph and Juanita Booton Lane.

She married Pastor John Larsen on July 1, 1995.

Throughout her life, Betty worked as a legal secretary for many attorneys until her retirement in September of 1994. After her retirement, she joined her husband in full time ministry.

She was a member of New Life Family Church and spent many years devoted to and serving God. She was a woman with strong faith, joy and love. Always the legal secretary, she journaled intensely about anything and everything.

Survivors include her husband and faithful companion John Larsen of Burlington; three daughters; Cheryl Ann Catanzaro of Cape Coral, Fla., Janice Marie (Jeff) Hemminger of Goldbar, Wash., and Kimberly Jean Deam of Machias, Wash. and her HERO, caregiver and son, Eric Larsen of Burlington; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert (Sunny) Lane of rural Burlington and Richard (Thelma) Lane of New London.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

A private family graveside service and interment will be held in White Oak Cemetery, rural Mount Pleasant. Pastor Richard Dutzer will officiate. A glorious celebration of Betty’s life will be held at a later date.

Robert L. York, 66, of Burlington died April 25, 2023 at his home.

Born June 20, 1956 in Davenport, he was the son of John and Rosie Southerland York.

Robert graduated from Mediapolis High School. He married Dawn Kriel and they later divorced.

He was a production worker at Vista Bakery until his retirement. He previously did construction work. Robert enjoyed motorcycle riding, fishing and hunting, race car driving and camping.

Survivors include one daughter, Holly (Terrence) Hill of Burlington; three grandsons Keaton Dacy, Kane Hill and Korbyn Hill; two brothers John (Pam) York and Timothy (Sonia) York, all of Burlington.

He was preceded in death by his parents and nephew Dustin.

Per his wishes, cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel. There will be no services at this time.

Lloyd Hughes Wolf, 85, died April 22, 2023. He was born on Aug. 3, 1937 in Keosauqua, to Donald Erskine and Emma Louise Hughes Wolf. He claimed until the day he died that his mother gave birth to him while on the couch watching TV.

Lloyd spent his formative years in Keosauqua and Moravia. The stories to be told here are overwhelmingly numerous and possibly a bit embellished. Lloyd graduated from Ft Madison High School in 1955 and went to school at Iowa Wesleyan College in Mt Pleasant. He finished his teaching degree at Missouri Teacher’s College in Kirksville, Mo.&nbsp;

On Jan. 15, 1960, Lloyd married Diana DeLuca in Ft. Madison. He served in the Army Reserves and spent the next eight years teaching Government at Knoxville High School (Ill.) and Bettendorf High School. It was during this time that he and Diana became parents to their three children Laura, Don, and Lee. Lloyd returned to school and received his Juris Doctor Degree from the University of Iowa. He joined his lifelong friend, Bill Napier, in Ft Madison practicing law for the next 44 years, retiring in 2014 at age 76.

Lloyd had many interests.&nbsp; Among them was the Great Iowa State Fair. He was a lifelong attender and loved to spend his days with a sweet roll purchased under the Sky Glider (he often referred to them as “Sky Buns”), hanging out in the 4H building or Pioneer Hall, and having a Chop on a Stick. Many great memories were made there.&nbsp;

Lloyd was a lover of music. His vast appreciation ranged from Jazz to Country to Classical and made him a true connoisseur. He passed this love of music on to his kids and others who were around him. He was a brass player and sang bass. He loved singing in choir. Lloyd also loved going to Drum and Bugle Corps events. His son Don marched with his favorite corps, The Colts - Iowa’s Ambassadors of Music.&nbsp;

Lloyd loved spending time with his family and especially his granddaughters. Trips to Chicago, Colorado, and Hawaii with the grandkids stood as some of his fondest memories. Lloyd and Diana were also world travelers, visiting amazing places like Hawaii, Israel, Rome, London, and about 40 State Capitols. They also loved to make stops in towns like Pella, Dubuque, Sioux City, and Spillville in their beloved state of Iowa.

Of all the things that shaped Lloyd’s life, nothing was more important than his relationship with Jesus Christ.&nbsp; He spent extensive time studying God’s word and becoming an ardent apologist for Christianity. He taught Sunday School for years and affected many lives for Christ at Harmony Bible Church, Burlington Evangelical Free Church, and the First Baptist Church of Ft Madison. He also spent many special Sunday nights at Joy Baptist Church in Ft Madison. If he had one last message for all it would be that you consider who Jesus Christ is and the free gift of eternal life He offers to all.

It is certain that Lloyd is sitting at a table on the back porch of his mansion having some philosophical discussions with CS Lewis and Francis Schaeffer, singing in the Heavenly Choir, Playing trumpet in God’s Brass Band, and worshiping at the feet of his savior. We can’t wait to see him again.

Lloyd Hughes Wolf 

Thomas&nbsp;George&nbsp;“Tom” Koehler, 77,&nbsp;of Burlington, died Monday, April 24, 2023, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics&nbsp;after a fierce battle with stage 4 lung cancer which had metastasized to his brain in multiple places by the time it was discovered.&nbsp;Over the past 5 ½ weeks, he endured two neurosurgeries and recovery at OSF St Francis in Peoria, Ill., a week of acute rehabilitation in Coralville, and two more weeks&nbsp;oscillating between critical and stable conditions&nbsp;at UIHC.

Born April 30, 1945 in Burlington, he was the son of George and Irma Winegard Koehler. Tom graduated from Burlington High School in 1963. &nbsp;He served his country in the United States Army as a drill Sargent during Vietnam. He was of the Catholic faith.

Tom was a Manufacturing Engineer. &nbsp;He worked&nbsp;at&nbsp;Winegard&nbsp;Company&nbsp;for&nbsp;decades,&nbsp;retiring in 2001. &nbsp;During retirement he drove cars for local car dealerships&nbsp;and cultivated many friendships along the way.&nbsp;He enjoyed rebuilding old cars, refurbishing&nbsp;trailers,&nbsp;tractors and riding lawn mowers,&nbsp;and engineering whatever he could first envision in his mind.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was always building things and could fix anything. &nbsp;One of his biggest passions was 1969 Camaros. Another lifelong passion was Boy Scouts of America, helping lead multiple Eagle Scouts to BSA’s most prestigious honor. Tom always enjoyed a good cup of coffee with friends&nbsp;and family!

Tom was a fighter to the end, and his cancer and respiratory issues became the one thing he could not actually fix. &nbsp;His survivors include two daughters Michele Lewis of Iowa City and Crystal Koehler of Ankeny; grandchildren Anakin Worthington, Teddy Worthington, and Tanner Cupps; and lots of close friends who were considered family, and his dog, Maggie Mae.

He was preceded in death by his parents and son Michael Koehler.

The funeral service for Tom will be 11 a.m. Thursday, April 27 at Lunning Chapel with&nbsp;Deacon Gary Johnson&nbsp;officiating.&nbsp;Military Rites will be performed by the Des Moines County Area Veterans Honor Guard.&nbsp;Interment will&nbsp;be&nbsp;in Aspen Grove Cemetery&nbsp;at a private service at a later date. &nbsp;The family will receive friends on Thursday from 9 a.m. until the time of service.

A Memorial has been established for the Des Moines County Humane Society, from where he rescued his beloved Maggie.

He was of the Catholic faith.Tom was a Manufacturing Engineer. &nbsp;He worked&nbsp;at&nbsp;Winegard&nbsp;Company&nbsp;for&nbsp;decades,&nbsp;retiring in 2001. &nbsp;During retirement he drove cars for local car dealerships&nbsp;and cultivated many friendships along the way.&nbsp;He enjoyed rebuilding old cars, refurbishing&nbsp;trailers,&nbsp;tractors and riding lawn mowers,&nbsp;and engineering whatever he could first envision in his mind.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was always building things and could fix anything. &nbsp;One of his biggest passions was 1969 Camaros. Another lifelong passion was Boy Scouts of America, helping lead multiple Eagle Scouts to BSA’s most prestigious honor. Gregory Alan Oriano, 53, of Burlington, died Friday, April 21, 2023, at his home.

Born July 10, 1969, in Burlington, he was the son of Richard Phillips and Martha Elaine Ammer Oriano.&nbsp;

He was a Burlington High School graduate.

Greg enjoyed working at McDonald's and made many friends until his retirement after 30 years.&nbsp;

Greg enjoyed listening to country music and had hundreds of CDs. He enjoyed watching baseball, from the Major League to the Burlington Bees. He also had a baseball card collection and was a fan of WWE Wrestling. Greg was very passionate about Boy Scouts. He received his Eagle Scout and loved going to Camp Eastman every summer. He continued his service with the Boy Scouts by helping Cub Scouts. He will be remembered for being a friend to everyone.

Survivors include his sister, Cindy (Steve) Noack of Iowa City; nephews, Michael (Brooke) Noack, and William Noack; niece, Claire Noack; great-nephew, Samuel Noack; aunts, Ann (Ken) Stutts of Grants Pass, Ore., Mary Calder of Greenville, N.C., and Wandalea Ammer; and numerous cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and uncles, Glen (Shirley) Ammer, Melvin Ammer and Hugh (Sarah) Oriano.

Charles Melvin Landstrom Jr., 95, of Burlington, died Friday, April 21, 2023, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born April 28, 1927, in Berwyn, Ill., he was the son of Charles Melvin and Caroline Schneider Landstrom. On Oct. 3, 1953, he married Martha Ann Nesius in Burlington. She died on June 18, 2019.

He was a 1949 graduate of Lyons Township High School.&nbsp;

He was a U.S. Navy Veteran, serving during the World War II from March 20, 1945 until March 5, 1948.

Charles was a letter carrier for 31 years and retired in June of 1990.

He was a member of Zion United Church of Christ, Moose #579, &nbsp;N.A.L.C. #222 and was a regular blood donor. &nbsp;He loved being outdoors; from going on walks, fishing, gardening, to feeding and watching the birds. &nbsp;He was a big baseball fan and enjoyed the Burlington Bees, St. Louis Cardinals, Jay Buckley Baseball Tours. Charles was a supporter of the local animal shelter, and adopted many wonderful cats over the years.&nbsp;

Survivors include one son, Brian Charles (Sheri) Landstrom of Burlington; two daughters, Barbara Ann (Larry) Meth of Burlington, and Debra Sue (Kirk) Van Scoy of Burlington; six grandchildren, Todd, Mitch, Kelly, Karen, Courtney, and Briana; seven great-grandchildren, twins, Austin and Ethan, Isaiah, Olivia, Mason, Jase, Emma, Halley and Maren.&nbsp;

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Donald Landstrom and sister, Carol Marie Grubb.

Visitation will be from noon until 7 p.m. with the family to receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 25, 2023 at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.

Russell Eugene Schroeder, 78, of Burlington, died Tuesday, April 18, 2023, at his home.

Born on Christmas Day, Dec. 25, 1944 in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, he was the son of George Washington and Ruth Louise Huppenberger Schroeder.

He served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War.

He married Patsy Ellen Adams on Oct. 2, 1967 in Mount Pleasant. He was a revenue officer for the IRS for 29 ½ years until his retirement.

Russell enjoyed trips to neighborhood towns, dining out, maintaining and working in the yard, time with family, meeting new people and reminiscing about his military days and his job with the IRS. He always had a soft spot for animals and really enjoyed the Burlington First Assembly of God West of 50’s Activities.

He is survived by his wife, Patsy Schroeder of Burlington; son, Eric (Julie) Schroeder of Burlington and daughter, Sonya Schroeder of Greensboro, N.C. and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son Paul Schroeder, brother Roger Schroeder and sister Sandra Hart.

The memorial visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Saturday, April 22 in the Fellowship Hall at Burlington First Assembly of God with a luncheon to follow.

A private family interment will be held in Forest Home Cemetery, Mount Pleasant.

David M. Welcher, 68, of Gladstone, Ill., died Thursday, April 20, 2023 at his home.

Born Dec. 6, 1954 in Mt. Pleasant, he was the son of Eugene and ElvaLee Jones Welcher.

David served his country in the United States Army.

He was a truck driver for over 30 years, most recently working for Newcomb Trucking Company of Muscatine. David rode motorcycles with his son and he enjoyed spending time with his granddaughters.

Survivors include one son Tyler (Madeleine) Welcher of Burlington; one daughter Tasha Welcher of Port Orange, Fla.; two brothers Terry “Herman” Welcher and Danny “Boone” Welcher.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Tommy “Doc” Welcher.

Per David’s wishes, cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Funeral Chapel. There will be no services at this time.

Irma M. Vance died peacefully at her home in Sun City, Ariz. on April 12, 2023.&nbsp;

Born March 17, 1929, in Marshalltown, she was the daughter of J. Earl and Virdie B. Marken Kneeland.&nbsp; On May 7, 1950, she married Randall S. Vance of Mt. Pleasant.&nbsp; They were married in Marshalltown.&nbsp; He preceded her in death on August 12, 2008.

They lived in Marshalltown until March of 1966, when they moved to Burlington.&nbsp;

Mrs. Vance graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1947.&nbsp;

While in Marshalltown, she worked at Fidelity Savings Bank and at Younkers. After moving to Burlington, she worked as clerk in the Des Moines County Treasurer’s Office for several years, and then was elected to serve as a member of the Des Moines County Board of Supervisors in 1980.&nbsp; She served until 1985 and is the only female member to serve on that Board to this date.&nbsp; She was a member of First United Methodist Church Ruth Circle.&nbsp; She served on the Administrative Board of that Church and was a member of the choir and UMW.&nbsp; She was a member and past president of Stars and Stripes Chapter NSDAR and PEO Chapter P.&nbsp; She enjoyed reading, playing bridge and other card games, and traveling.&nbsp; She and her husband wintered in Florida, and then in Arizona for many years.&nbsp; She was interested in family history and genealogy.&nbsp;

Survivors include two sons, Michael C. Vance (Bonnie) of Mt. Pleasant, and Russell W. Vance (Kim) of Glendale, Ariz., and one daughter, Karen J. Ratterman (Dale) of Epworth, six grandchildren, Thomas (Morgan) Vance, Joseph Ratterman, Patrick (Karen) Vance, Derek Vance, Elizabeth Ratterman,&nbsp; Danielle (Eric) Gagnier two step grandchildren Marc (Jessica) Steinberg and Amy (Adam) Early&nbsp; and five great-grandchildren, Nathaniel, Kieran, Adrian, Asher, and Sailor and one step great granddaughter Marlow, and many nieces and nephews.

Born Aug. 15, 1956, in Burlington, he was the son of Calvin “Jack” and Doris Smith Baker.

Gary graduated from Burlington High School. He worked for the City of Burlington Sanitation Department. Gary enjoyed fishing and camping. He loved to be outdoors.

Margaleen Ann “Marge” Marshall died Friday, April 14, 2023.

She was born on Nov. 23, 1927, to Earl and Juanita Redlinger in Washington, Iowa. She was the oldest of five siblings. Dean was smitten with her at the State Theatre in Washington where she worked. Romance ensued followed by their marriage on July 29, 1950. They raised three children together in Burlington where they lived until 2013.

Marge worked as a legal secretary for the Dailey Law Firm for many years. In retirement, she and Dean were avid followers of their grandchildren’s athletic and scholastic endeavors. Despite being a collector of anything cardinal, Marge was a big Cubs and Hawkeye fan. In 2013 they moved to the Iowa City area.

Marge is survived by her son, Gregory Marshall, daughters Susan (Randy) Pflum and Julie (David) Lee, five grandchildren, Tyler, Devin and Brian Pflum, Anna Lee (Jarod) Morrissette, and Trevor Lee, and two great-grandchildren, Callahan and Palmer Morrissette. She is also survived by her sister Mary Louise Ramseyer and many nephews and nieces.

The Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in West Burlington at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 20, with visitation to precede, commencing at 9:30 a.m. Father James Flattery will be the Celebrant. Internment will be at Columbus City Cemetery.

Memorials have been established for St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Hope Haven.

She is also survived by her sister Mary Louise Ramseyer and many nephews and nieces.The Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in West Burlington at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 20, with visitation to precede, commencing at 9:30 a.m. Father James Flattery will be the Celebrant. Internment will be at Columbus City Cemetery.Memorials have been established for St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Hope Haven.

Margaleen Ann “Marge” Marshall 

Carl M. Foster, 97, of West Point, died Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at Prairie Ridge Care Center in Mediapolis.  He was born on the family farm in Lee County on March 1, 1926, to Clyde Newton and Elbertine Maude Hampton Foster.

He was a graduate of New London High School.  He farmed the family farm where he lived all but three years of his life and was a Union Electrician for fifty-seven years. Carl was a member of Masonic Lodge AF &amp; AM #28 and IBEW Local 13.  He enjoyed woodworking, owned and operated Skeetland, and loved trapshooting since childhood.

Survivors include two sons Clinton Daniel (Julie) and Lisle Scott both of Burlington; daughter Laura (David) Bawidamann of Burnsville, MN; two grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.  Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Clifford, sister Ruby Neuweg, grandson J.D. Foster, and granddaughter Jessica Wiegard.

Masonic services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 17, 2023, at Elliott Chapel, New London.  Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. with the family greeting friends from 1 until the time of the service.  Private burial will be held at Burge Cemetery, rural New London.  A memorial has been established for Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice. Jeff Coursey, 63, of Burlington, died Thursday, April 13, 2023, at his home in Burlington surrounded by family.

Born Feb. 17, 1960, in Burlington, he was the son of Richard and Betty Ann Burnette Coursey. On March 2, 2023, he married Jennifer Springsteen, whom he had been with for 25 years.&nbsp;

He was a graduate of Burlington Community High School 1979.

Jeff worked for Flint Cliffs Manufacturing as a production worker for 24 years.

Jeff loved going to the farm, having bonfires, and fishing with his nephews. He enjoyed making fireplaces and loved Lynyrd Skynyrd, was a Minnesota Vikings fan and a NASCAR fan until Dale Earnhardt Sr. passed away. Jeff enjoyed spending time with his friends, especially at Farney's.

Survivors include his wife, Jennifer Coursey of Burlington; daughter, Edie L. Warth of Burlington: nine grandchildren; father, Richard Coursey of Fort Madison; two brothers, Steve (Brenda) Coursey of Monmouth, Ill., and Tim Coursey of Burlington; sister, Jolinda Coursey of Fort Madison; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother and brother, Patrick Coursey, and two daughters Emily Pinkston and Melanie Warth.

A elebration of life will be held at a later date.

Lora Ann Pitts, 56, of Burlington died Monday, April 10, 2023, at her home.

 </figure> Lora Ann Pitts, 56, of Burlington died Monday, April 10, 2023, at her home.Born May 9, 1966, in Keokuk, she was the daughter of Gary Dean and Dorothy Louise Billingsley Shanstrom.Lora graduated from Ft. Madison High School. On Dec. 29, 1988, she married Michael Pitts at the Des Moines County Court House.Lora worked at Beckman’s Dry Cleaners. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles in her spare time and loved spending time with her grandchildren.Survivors include her husband, Michael of Burlington; one daughter Amber Marie Pitts and one son Aaron Michael Pitts, both of Burlington; three grandchildren Anjul, Alec, and Payton; two brothers Mark (Julie) Shanstrom of West Point, and Todd (Tanya) Shanstrom of Burlington; one sister Dawn Worley of Wapello; several nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents.The funeral service for Lora will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 19 at Lunning Chapel.
