Cherilyn Faye Brookhart went home to be with Jesus on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center.

Cherilyn was born in Williamstown, Mo. on Dec. 23, 1946, to Earl &amp; Mildred Fishback.&nbsp; In 1964 Cherilyn’s best friend introduced her to the love of her life Jerry and she knew after their first date that he was a keeper and married him on Oct. 2, 1966.&nbsp; During their 57 years of wedded bliss, they enjoyed traveling, gardening, bird watching, drinking coffee on their deck, watching every St. Louis Cardinals baseball game, loving all of their dogs and cats that they had, and of course spending time with her 3 children Jamie (Karen) Brookhart of Muscatine, Shawna (Mark) Jones of Waterloo, Ill., Jenna Lowe of Burlington, Iowa and 9 grand-children McKenna, Lucy, Grace, Parker, Lincoln, Gavin, Vaughn, Safia, and Mia. Along with immediate family, she is survived by her sisters-in-law Esther Ann Fishback, Wyneta Fishback, Elaine Fishback, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Cherilyn was also dedicated to special needs community through her years of dedicated service at Burlington Community School District and Hope Haven.&nbsp; She was also an active member of Parkside First Baptist Church.&nbsp; She always had ears to listen, arms to give a hug, words of wisdom to speak, a hand to hold, and a heart that led her to pray.

Cherilyn is preceded in death by her parents, her 3 brothers, Earl Wayne Fishback, Kenneth Fishback, and Thomas “Bud” Fishback.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.&nbsp; Memorials for St. Jude Children's Hospital &amp; PAW Animal Shelter in Ft. Madison, have been established.

Joanna Marie Jagerson Foster, 70, of Burlington, Iowa, died on April 23, 2024, at Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House.

She was born on Aug. 1, 1953, in Cedar Rapids, she was the daughter of Thomas Kehne and Betty Jo Cannon.

Joanna worked for Shearer’s for 27 years. She was a huge fan of Elvis Presley and his music. During football season she was either watching the Denver Broncos or the Iowa Hawkeyes. Her life was her family. Whenever one of the grandchildren were playing at a sporting event you could always find Joanna on the sidelines cheering them on. Most of all Joanna loved being with her family.

She is survived by her five children: Michael (Heather Guinard) Jagerson, Richard (Lindsay) Foster, Timothy Foster, Harley (Heather Hayes) Dowell and Nicole (Joe Canterbury) Foster; twelve grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and five siblings: Pam (Mark) Reinig, Mary Latuska, Harold (Sue) Jagerson, Becky (David) Blackwell Cooper and Brenda Adams. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Rebecca Smith.

Per her wishes cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel. A Celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Joanna M. Foster

Leonard William Lane, 84, of Burlington, died Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born June 30, 1939 in Mount Sterling, Ill., he was the son of Leonard and Dorothy Mauck Lane Sr.

Leonard graduated from Brown County High School in Mount Sterling, Illinois. He served in the United States Army as a Specialist 4th class.

On June 13, 1958 he married Karan Ingram in Versailles, Ill.

Leonard worked for Benner Tea Company and was the first Vice President of Farmers and Merchants Bank and Trust in Burlington, retiring after over 40 years of service. He was a member of Parkside First Baptist Church and a past member of Oak Street Baptist Church. Leonard loved to golf. He was a loving family man and a devoted husband and father.

Survivors include his wife Karan of Burlington; his children Douglas (Jane) Lane of Bonita Springs, Fla., Darryl Lane of Peoria, Arizona, Debby (Pat) O’Malley of Elmhurst, Ill., Dan (Kelly) Lane of Jefferson City, Mo., David (Mary Kay) Lane of Canton, Mo. and Diana Doetzel of Scottsdale, Ariz.; 19 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter; one brother Jerry Lane of Carlinville, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Pete Lane and Donald Lane and one sister Sharon Likes.

The memorial service for Leonard will be at 11am Tuesday, April 30, 2024 at Parkside First Baptist Church with Reverend Steven Ingram officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. A luncheon will follow the service.

Leonard William Lane

Clara K. Lindstadt, 92, of Lomax, Illinois, died Monday, April 22, 2024, at Oaklane Nursing Home in Stronghurst, Ill. Born March 4, 1932, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Simeon and Pearl Fry Hunter.

Clara was not only giving, loving, and sacrificing of her time and attention to anyone who needed it, she was loyal and blind to anyone’s background. She would always say it doesn’t matter whether you were a king or homeless, when the lights are out, we are all the same. She was of the Christian faith. She was a proud member of the National Honor Society at Burlington High School where she graduated in 1950. There she met the love of her life Carl Lindstadt, and after graduation, they waited for both to turn 18 years old to marry. She became a homemaker, but quickly established her legacy through volunteerism at the Head Start program, health dept., hospital, and later at the Burlington Senior Center.

For her kids, she led Brownie and Boy Scout troops and Sunday school, hosted and cooked for everyone who stopped by. From neighborhood pickup games to school athletics and activities, Clara was there. She was the definition of a team mom. She was there for all of it.

Her husband, Carl, worked for Carl A. Nelson Company as a superintendent. As he was on the road to various parts of Iowa and beyond, she was there with him. Growing up ‘scotchy’, Clara made the most out of nothing, turning jobsite trailers into soup kitchens. All she ever asked in return was that their stomachs were full and a thank you was given.

Her heart and generosity were evident anytime you saw her. Her memory was sharp, she was quick to ask you about your family or about a game or work, she remembered highlights about your life. When you were with Clara you were the most important person in the world. You were always full, in heart and hand, when you left. Clara never believed in someone coming to see her and leaving empty handed. Day or night her phone was always on and her car was always gassed with snacks ready. All she would need is for you to, “Give me a minute and let me put my shoes on and I’ll be right there”.

As grandchildren and great grandchildren were born, her world shifted as she had a new crew to help steward. After a trip with Carl, she wasted no time going to the Wehrle house to see her grandkids. She offered rides, did laundry, always helping wherever and however she could. She would support the kids in all they were in. Christmas was especially important for them to have what they wanted, but also a reason to get together to laugh and connect, but most importantly she got to cook. As they got older, she would brag about where they lived and how successful and proud she was of them.

For over 20 years she was the rock of love and support for Shylah and Stacy. They were her world, and she truly took pride in that role after her daughter and son-in-law passed. For her last 15 years she lived in rural Lomax, IL overseeing a two-man crew. Her great grandchildren Noah and Brady Lenahan were her final crescendo. As she taught them what it was like to have and be a best friend. Whether it was Noah talking about his games or Brady covering her feet every night before bed, Brady would sing or play her his trumpet. She was their first best friend and would transform her room into their personal play area where laughter was heard, and shenanigans encouraged. She taught them how to live in the moment, not to take life for granted, and to love your family.

Clara will truly be missed; she was the consummate mother/grandma to everyone. Quick with a meal, a game of bingo, or any type of card game either made up on the fly, or rummy, her jokes and stories which led to laughter were contagious, but her heart was never full enough. At least that’s the way it seemed as she was always looking to fill it with more and more people to love!

For the woman who was always giving and doing for others, her body was accepted and donated to the University of Iowa Deeded Body Program to give back to the students.

She is survived by her two children; Stephen Lindstadt and Stanley (Kate) Lindstadt; grandchildren in order; Raina, Shylah, Elly, Stacy, Calandra, Lauren, Abigayil, Hannah, Hadassah, Josiah and Jesse; ten great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Carl, daughter Carla Wehrle, son-in-law Mark Wehrle, daughter-in-law Polly Lindstadt, two grandchildren, Rebekah and Lucas and nine brothers and sisters.

A celebration of life is planned for Sunday, July 14, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at TRAX located inside Fun City.

Memorials have been established for Henderson County Hospice or The Cupboard Food Pantry.

Thomas E. Reger, 95, of Apple Valley, Minn. died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2024. &nbsp; Born November 4, 1928, in Burlington, he was the son of Charles Wesley and Abbie Williams Reger. On Dec., 23, 1950, he married Odett Evelyn Stoermer in Burlington. She died on May 8, 2010. &nbsp; He graduated from Burlington High School. Tom continued his education at the University of Iowa, where he received his bachelor's degree. &nbsp; Tom worked for 3M as a Sales Manager for 40 years until his retirement in August of 1990. &nbsp; He was a member of King of Glory Lutheran Church in Dallas, Texas. &nbsp;Tom played trombone and piano his whole life and loved jazz music from the Big Band era. He played trombone in local Dallas, TX jazz band for 15 years after his retirement. Tom was a very active volunteer for his local Salvation Army Organization in Dallas. &nbsp; Survivors include son, Scott (Judy) Reger of Apple Valley, Minn.; two grandchildren, Jason Reger of Eden Prairie, Minn. and Molly (Ian) Sinclair of Lakeville, Minn.; and two great-grandchildren, Benjamin and Zachary Sinclair both of Lakeville, Minn.&nbsp; &nbsp; Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, and son, Michael Todd Reger. &nbsp; The Graveside Committal Service for Mr. Reger will be 2 p.m. Friday, May 3, 2024, at Aspen Grove Cemetery. &nbsp; A memorial has been established for N. Iona Louise LaVeine, 93, of West Burlington, died Monday, April 22, 2024, at the OakView Nursing Home and Rehabilitation in Burlington.

Born May 22, 1930, in Oquawka Township, Ill., she was the daughter of Elmer and Belva Ashby Tee. On December 20, 1955, she married Robert Edward LaVeine in Monmouth, Ill.. He died on Jan. 27, 2015.

Iona taught Economics for Southeastern Community College in the 70's and 80's. She was also the owner and operator of LaVeine Rentals until her death.

She enjoyed reading and traveling the world after her retirement. She enjoyed staying at her winter home in Arizona.&nbsp;

Survivors include one son, Glenn (Connie) LaVeine of St. Peters, Mo.; three daughters, Leslee (Bill) Coons of Bartlett, Ill., Cynthia (Avery Andrews) Allen of Canbera, Austrailia, and Barbara LaVeine of Burlington; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Karen (John) Perkins of Oquawka, Ill.; and two sisters-in-law, Becky Tee and Lois Tee.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, step-son, Michael LaVeine, and three brothers, Alvin, Allen and Ronald Tee.&nbsp;

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

Iona Louise LaVeine

Sharon Kay Luetger, 80, of Lomax, Illinois, passed away at 11:08 a.m. Friday, April 19, 2024, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.

Sharon was born July 16, 1943 in Burlington, the daughter of Elmer and Irvil (Hoskins) Sly. She married Gary Lee Luetger. They later divorced. She is survived by her longtime companion, Maurice Stambaugh.&nbsp;

Sharon was raised in the Burlington area. She worked for IAAP in Middletown, Iowa for many years. She later tended bar in Burlington, as well as raising hogs. She enjoyed working and providing for her family. She also enjoyed cats, gardening, watching hummingbirds and spending time with family.&nbsp;

Besides her longtime companion, Maurice Stambaugh, survivors include three children: Kent (Melissa) Luetger of Biggsville, Ill., Rodney Luetger of Lomax and Wendolen (Brad) Scott of Gibson City, Ill.; nine grandchildren: Amie Abbot, Eric Luetger, Brad Bell, James Andries, Emily Andries, Nicholas Andries, Sierra Newman, Spring Botimer and Ashlynn Botimer; 21 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews, including a special niece: Marti Trosen.

She was preceded in death by seven siblings: Erma, Albert, Glen, Betty, Marge, Gerald and Audrey and one daughter-in-law: Terri Lynn Luetger.&nbsp;

 </figure>Sharon Kay Luetger, 80, of Lomax, Illinois, passed away at 11:08 a.m. Friday, April 19, 2024, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington. Sharon was born July 16, 1943 in Burlington, the daughter of Elmer and Irvil (Hoskins) Sly. She married Gary Lee Luetger. They later divorced. She is survived by her longtime companion, Maurice Stambaugh.&nbsp;Sharon was raised in the Burlington area. She worked for IAAP in Middletown, Iowa for many years. She later tended bar in Burlington, as well as raising hogs. She enjoyed working and providing for her family. Sharon Luetger

Juanita May Boyle, 96, of Burlington, died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2024, at the OakView Nursing Home and Rehabilitation in Burlington.

Born May 2, 1927, in Mount Pleasant, she was the daughter of Andrew &nbsp;and Alma R. Wilson Boyd. On May 19, 1947, she married Thomas Frederic &nbsp;in West Burlington. He died May 27, 2014.

Juanita worked for 32 years as a Nursing Assistant for Mercy Hospital, Burlington Medical Center, and the Klein Center.

Juanita was a member of Divine Mercy Parish. She was known for her love of gardening, &nbsp;and yard work. She always made sure that her yard was looking impeccable. Juanita had a love for traveling. She had been to many places including weekends in The Ozarks, Florida, Las Vegas, Hawaii, Bahamas, and five NASCAR Races. Juanita was also known to be a sports fan cheering on the Green Bay Packers, and the Cardinals. When she was not cheering on her favorite sports teams, she was always up for a good shopping trip. What she loved most of all was spending time with her family. She always looked forward to the annual family vacation and family gatherings.

Survivors include son, Philip Boyle and Paula of West Burlington, daughter, Cecilia (Darrell) Clevidence of Galesburg, Ill., granddaughter, Martha (Andy) Goodman of Galesburg, Ill., granddaughter, Margaret Strean and David of &nbsp;East Galesburg, Ill.; six great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, both parents, two sisters and two brothers. As per Juanita's wishes, cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory. No visitation will be held.

A graveside inurnment will be held Thursday, May 2, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Aspen Grove Cemetery, with Fr. Jake Greiner Officiating. A time of food and fellowship will follow at The Drake.

A memorial has been established for St. Vincent dePaul Food Pantry and the Des Moines County Humane Society.

Dana L. Weiss, 88, of West Burlington, died Saturday, April 20, 2024, at the OakView Nursing Home and Rehabilitation in Burlington.

Born Feb. 14, 1936, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Benjamin N. and Esther Deitsch Wagler. On May 7, 1955, she married James Edward Weiss in St. John's Church in Burlington. He died on Dec. 31, 2019.

Dana's most important job was being a homemaker and mother. She also worked for H&amp;R Block, Younkers and the Burlington Welcome Center.&nbsp;

She was a member of Divine Mercy Parish and was a part of the alter and rosary society. Dana enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing, mushroom hunting and gardening. She enjoyed playing cards with her ladies. Most of all, Dana loved to spend time with her family.&nbsp;

Survivors include two sons, Bradley (Juli) Weiss and Brian David Weiss; daughter, Laura (Randy) Ferguson; seven grandchildren, Melissa Weiss, Kyle Rex Boyer, Benjamin (Maegan) Weiss, Alison (Andrew) Price, Rachel Dannies Weiss, James "Blake" Cary, and Justin Weiss; several great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren; one brother, Paul Wagler; sister, Karen Schemmel and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Mark Weiss, one daughter-in-law, Earlene Weiss, one brother, William (Marjorie) Wagler, one sister, Phyllis (Ralph) White, brother-in-law, Jim Schemmel, sister-in-law, Wendy Wagler, and two great-grandchildren, Clayton Connelly and Aurianna Lloyd.

Visitation with the family to receive friends will be from 10 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 25, 2024, at Divine Mercy Parish-SS. Mary and Patrick Catholic Church, West Burlington.

Angelo Doud, 78, of Burlington, died Saturday, April 20, 2024, at Azria Health, Prairie Ridge Care Center in Mediapolis.

Born Jan. 7, 1946, in Foggia, Italy, he was the son of Charles “Ralph” and Maria Doud. He graduated from Keosauqua High School and served in the Air Force.

He married Rhonda Bartsch on Aug. 7, 1983, in Lowell.

Angelo was a self-employed musician and upholsterer. He was inducted in the Iowa Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2017.

He is survived by his wife, Rhonda Doud of Burlington; three daughters, Megan Feenstra of Burlington, Brittany Prill of West Burlington and Natalee Doud of New London; seven grandchildren, Ali Prill, Presley Prill, Pailyn Prill, Porter Prill, Cayden Scheetz, Bennett Higdon and Holland Mangels; great-grandson Kallum Bollinger and sister Donna DeJaynes of Gladstone, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Tony and niece Samara.

Cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Sharon “Kay” Parrott, 72, of Burlington, died Sunday, April 21, 2024, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born July 11, 1951, in Burlington, she was the daughter of William “Billy” and Virginia Smelser.

She married the love of her life Richard E. “Rick” Parrott Jr. on July 12, 1969 in Burlington. Together they celebrated 54 years of marriage. He preceded her in death on Nov. 9, 2023.

In her younger years, Sharon worked at Van’s Lunch Box. After her marriage she became a stay-at-home mom. She enjoyed going to the casino, playing bingo and anything ladybugs and cardinals. Her priority and joy in life was always her family and she loved spending time with her grandkids and great grandkids.

She is survived by her three children; Kim Parrott, Richard E. “Rick” Parrott III and William “Bill” Parrott; six grandchildren, Tyler Parrott, Haley (Austin) Latcham, Trace Parrott, Lexi (Brandon) Crawley, Blake Reusch and Savannah Parrott; two great grandchildren, Ellie Latcham and Kye Crawley; siblings; Ronnie Smelser, Dwane (Pat) Savage and Julie Peterson and her aunt Sandra (Marvin) Messler.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

According to her wishes, cremation has been entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel. There will be no services at this time.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in her memory for the Special Needs Foundation.

Sandra Lorraine "Sandie" Bannier, 76, of West Burlington, died Monday, April 15, 2024, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born Sept. 22, 1947, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Jack and Lois Melvin Ramey. She met William Elliot Bannier square dancing and they married a few years later on Dec. 5, 1980 in Pleasant Grove Church.&nbsp;

She was graduate of West Burlington High School and later became a Registered Nurse.&nbsp;

Sandie knew from a young age that she wanted to be a nurse. She pursued her passion and became a nurse working in Georgia, St. Francis, and later at Wapello Care Center.

She was a member of Faith Christian Outreach Church in Mount Pleasant. She was a part of the prayer warriors and her faith was very important to her. She enjoyed reading and watching shows like; Little House on the Prairie, Waltons, Touched by an Angel, and any kind of mystery show. She will be remembered as being caring and compassionate as well as her distinctive laugh.

Survivors include her husband, William Bannier of West Burlington; daughter, Rachel (Brant) Wells of Georgia; step-son, William (Marla) Bannier of Mount Pleasant; grandson, Ethan; step-granddaughter Amanda; three brothers, Ray (Karen) Ramey of East Providence, R.I., Roy (Billie) Ramey of Clinton, Utah, and Randy (Hilda) Ramey of Plainfield, Ill.

She was preceded in death by her parents and step-son, Matthew Elliot Bannier.

Visitation will be from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Monday, April 22, 2024, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.

Patricia Ann King, 62, of New London, died Tuesday, April 16, 2024 at her home.

Born Sept. 10, 1961 in Los Angeles, Calif., she was the daughter of James King and Alice Ruth Haugejord.

Patricia was a member of New London Christian Church. She married Patrick Chancellor. They later divorced.

She was a Certified Nurse Assistant and enjoyed caring for others and bringing joy to everyone. She loved spending time with her family.

Patricia Ann King

Trish Ditsworth, 83, of West Burlington, died Thursday, April 11, 2024 at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center.

Born Feb. 21, 1941 in Burlington, she was the daughter of John Everett and Alta Beatrice Walker Erickson.

She attended middle school in Burlington and graduated from Humbolt High School in Iowa. She married Thomas Alvin Ditsworth in 1962.

Trish was a homemaker. She also drove cars for auto auctions. She retired after 10 years as a trucking dispatcher.

Trish was a member of Parkside First Baptist Church for 14 years. She enjoyed photography and was a member of the shutterbug camera club. She enjoyed birding, playing cards and games with friends and was a farmgirl at heart.

Survivors include her husband of Burlington; one son Darrin Ditsworth of Burlington; one grandson Jacob Ditsworth of Burlington and best friend Sarah Bissell of West Burlington.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

The memorial service for Trish will be 11 a.m., Saturday, April 20 at Parkside First Baptist Church with the Reverend Joe Terranella officiating. Family will receive friends an hour before the service. Inurnment will be at 2 p.m. in Burge Cemetery, New London.

Per her wishes cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.

Megan Lee Lamb Reynolds, 36, of Burlington, died Thursday, April 11, 2024 at the University of Iowa Hospital.

Born February 21, 1988 in Monmouth, Ill., she was the daughter of Larry Lee Lamb and Lyla Joann Huss. She was of the Baptist faith.

Megan graduated from Burlington High School and earned her associates degree in Criminal Justice from Southeastern Community College.

On June 18, 2016, Megan married Eric Shane Reynolds. They later divorced.

Megan lately had worked in the service center and bakery of HyVee and managed the Family Dollar store. She enjoyed her flower garden, bike riding, walking her dog, music, mushroom hunting, taking care of other people and making sure they were fed. She had a big heart and she loved spending time with her family and her kids.

Survivors include her children Dylan Reynolds, Andrea Reynolds and Rayna Reynolds all of Burlington; her mother, Lyla (Tim Schaefer) Huss of Burlington, nieces and nephews Kaydence Reynolds, Daulton Reynolds, Bentley Garrels, Owen Reynolds, Sausha Lamb and Reygun Reynolds; sister Mickie Huss of Burlington; brothers Daniel (Courtney) Reynolds of Burlington and Steven Lamb of Mediapolis; friend, Charles W. Stevens, Jr.

She was preceded in death by her father and grandparents.

Betty E. Swafford, 78, of Burlington, died Saturday, April 6, 2024, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born May 7, 1945, in Atascadero, Calif., she was the daughter of John Everett and Ines Velma McKelvey Brown.&nbsp;

Betty worked for Champion Spark Plug and retired after 31 years of service.

Betty was a very active member and officer of the UAW, Local 1237. She enjoyed traveling, especially to Naples, Fla. to visit her daughter. She was her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren's biggest cheerleader, never missing their sporting or school events. Betty loved gardening and watching her hummingbirds, going to the movies and theater, reading, going out to eat, and visiting with her friends whom she called family.

Survivors include son, Jeff (Lisa) Sisco of Mediapolis, daughter, Jeanette Sisco of Naples, Fla., daughter, Denice (David) Ertz of Burlington, grandchildren, Melissa (Justin) Kramer, Bryan (Audra) Spears, Sarah Roed, Lydia (Zach) Gatton, Samantha (Davis) Lowenberg, Jesse Ertz, Shannon (Jordan) Mohr and Kelli (Jacob) Scheitlin, 13 great-grandchildren, brother, Terry (Eileen) Brown of Calif., sister, Carol (Ron Jacobs) Brown of Denver, Colo., sister, Norma Jean Bonifay of Kalona, and several nieces and nephews.

Dal was an aircraft engine mechanic and flight crew member in the Navy during the Korean War, serving from 1951 until 1955. He was the founder of Atlas Warehouse Co., Pak-A-Way Container Service, and Atlas Intermodal Trucking Service. Dal moved to Sun City West, Ariz. in 1999, and later moved back to Burlington in 2018. He enjoyed golfing and was a member and former President of the Burlington Golf Club, member of the First Presbyterian Church, Burlington Rotary Club and a member of the Elks. Survivors include his wife, Shirley J.. Thompson of Burlington; two sons, David D. (Donna) Thompson of Scottsdale, Ariz. and Michael J. (Teresa) Thompson of Galesburg, lll.; four grandchildren, David C. (Jess), Taylor (Vince), Coby, and Jaclyn (Jason); and three great-grandchildren. Kevin L. Brewer, 62, of Dallas City, Ill., died at 9:54 p.m. Friday, April 5, 2024, at OSF St. Mary’s Medical Center in Galesburg, Ill.

Kevin was born Aug. 10, 1961 in LaHarpe, Ill., the son of Kenneth A. and Betty Howe Brewer. On Feb.&nbsp; 27, 1982 he married Maureen Markey in Carthage, Ill. They later divorced.&nbsp;

Kevin was a 1979 graduate of Dallas City High School. He later enlisted in the U.S. Navy and proudly served on the USS O’Callahan. Following his military service he worked for Waukegan Tire, Waukegan, Ill. and Western Auto, Burlington, before a 25-year career with the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant.&nbsp;

Kevin loved the Dallas City community and took an active role volunteering. He was a past Chief of the Dallas City Fire Department, as well as a volunteer with the Lomax Ambulance Service. He was a member of the Carthage VFW Post #5117 and the Dallas City American Legion Post #297, where he was currently serving as Commander.

Survivors include three sons: Glenn (Melisa) Brewer of Wellington, Illinois, Kevin (Alanda) Brewer of Bristow, Virginia and John (Shawna) Brewer of Wauconda, Ill., six grandchildren: Madison, Bryson, Kaiden, Khloe, Ellie, and Coen; four siblings: Sarah (Ken) Foxall of Macomb, Ill., Ron Brewer of LaHarpe, Donna Brewer of Dallas City and Terry Brewer of Dallas City; one brother-in-law: Tom Maynard of Pontoosuc, Ill. and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister: Melody Maynard; grandparents: Fred and Dorothy Howe and Charles and Sarah Brewer and one sister-in-law: Penny Brewer.&nbsp;

Kevin L. Brewer

R. LaVern Prough , of Fort Madison, died Sunday, April 7, 2024 at his home.&nbsp; He was born in Bucklin, Mo. on March 15, 1940, to Opal Prough, and named for the doctor and nurse that delivered him. He faced immediate challenges as the son of an unwed mother during those difficult times, but overcame all with the love of his mother, his grandmother, Verna, and uncle, Edwin, who helped to raise him. He lived in the very rural area of Elmer, Mo. where he played in “Sand Crick” and was a basketball star in the local school. In 1958, he graduated from LaPlata, Mo. High School and took off to experience a great new world. After living in Chicago for a short time, he moved to Fort Madison to marry the love of his life, Ruth Smutzer on June 1, 1961. Together they raised two daughters, Kim and Debbie, whom he adored until his last breath.&nbsp;

He was a very hard worker and entrepreneur, owning and managing the Fort Madison Ambulance Service, multiple service stations, tow trucks and a convenience store. He proudly served as a Lee County Deputy Sheriff, worked as a lieutenant at the Iowa State Penitentiary and other miscellaneous jobs until his “retirement”. He continued to sell cars and other ite<a></a>ms on eBay and Facebook- for himself as well as his many family members and friends. He was friendly and well known, always had a few good stories to tell and loved to make people laugh. He would do anything for anyone and positively affected the lives of all who were fortunate enough to know him.&nbsp; He loved old country music, especially George Jones, Waylon Jennings and Merle Haggard, and was a great fan of Elvis, having visited Graceland and Branson several times. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Prough on Dec. 1, 2009, his mother, Opal and step-father, Roy Shumaker, and several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.

He is survived by his loving daughters and sons-in-law, Kimberly and Ray Crutcher of Davenport, and Deborah and Doug Bergquist of Fort Madison. He considered himself to be fortunate in later years to connect with another daughter, Melanie Perry of Henderson, Nev. and her family. He also enjoyed the company of his step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, his special friend, Loretta Wardlow and “Woody”, his grand dog. He had many great experiences, overcame unusual challenges, and made innumerable close friendships throughout his lifetime. He was an unforgettable man.

He would do anything for anyone and positively affected the lives of all who were fortunate enough to know him.&nbsp; He loved old country music, especially George Jones, Waylon Jennings and Merle Haggard, and was a great fan of Elvis, having visited Graceland and Branson several times. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Prough on Dec. 1, 2009, his mother, Opal and step-father, Roy Shumaker, and several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.He is survived by his loving daughters and sons-in-law, Kimberly and Ray Crutcher of Davenport, and Deborah and Doug Bergquist of Fort Madison. He considered himself to be fortunate in later years to connect with another daughter, Melanie Perry of Henderson, Nev. and her family. He also enjoyed the company of his step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, his special friend, Loretta Wardlow and “Woody”, his grand dog. He had many great experiences, overcame unusual challenges, and made innumerable close friendships throughout his lifetime. David Alan “Rappy” Rappenecker, 67, of Burlington, died Thursday, April 4, 2024.

Born Jan. 29, 1957, in Burlington, he was the son of Donald and Mildred “Midge” Hallgren Rappenecker. Dave graduated from Burlington High School in 1976 and then completed the Electrical Union Apprenticeship Program. He married Diane Acord on June 9, 1979, welcoming three children before later divorcing. He then married Julie Hayes on Oct. 14, 2017, while loving her family as his.

Dave’s lifelong career as a master electrician started by working with his father at R&amp;R Electric, and later for Champion Spark Plug, and after being self-employed, most recently for Day &amp; Zimmermann for American Ordinance at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant. He loved being on the road on his Harley Davidson or in his sports car. Traveling and taking road trips was never out of the question. Dave was a member of Zion United Church of Christ, I.B.E.W. Local #13, River City Corvette Club, and Harley Owners Group. He was a longtime supporter of the Burlington Bees, he enjoyed attending games and volunteering for the ballpark. His big red truck was often seen at Napoli’s where he was enjoying a meal and greeting friends. Dave enjoyed live theater as well as live music. He was an incredible cook and grill master. Dave loved unconditionally and wholeheartedly.

He could literally fix anything and was very mechanically inclined. His helpful advice was always just a phone call away. Dave took pride in teaching his children his skills and spending time with them. He was very proud of his kids and enjoyed supporting their activities. Watching his grandchildren grow was a favorite pastime.

Survivors include his wife Julie Rappenecker of Burlington; children, Donny (Emilie) Rappenecker of Mediapolis, David (Elizabeth) Rappenecker of Bismarck, North Dakota, Danielle Rappenecker, and Jenny (Zach) Jensen of Knoxville; five grandchildren, James and Abigail Rappenecker, Charlie and Henry Rappenecker, and Hazel Jensen; sister Donna (Harold) Badtram of West Burlington; brother Michael Rappenecker of Burlington; two nephews, Brian and Kevin Klein; and numerous cousins.

The funeral service for Dave will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 13 at Lunning Chapel. Visitation will be Friday, April 12 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends. Burial will be in Edwards Cemetery, rural Oakville.

Memorials have been established for the Players Workshop and the Burlington Bees.

Richard A. “Murph” Murphy, 70, of West Burlington, died Monday, April 8, 2024, at his home.

Born July 28, 1953, in Burlington, he was the son of Richard E. and Celia J. Murphy. He married Martha Runnells and they later divorced. He then married Lorinda Richards. They later divorced.

Murph worked as a heavy equipment operator with IUOE # 150 for many years. He was a member of A.B.A.T.E. District 18.

Murph was undoubtedly the “life of the party” and always at the center of attention, sharing his “true stories”, telling tales and offering his unfiltered best advice, “I guar on tee”. He has left a large void in this world, and will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his two dogs, Harley and Cheyanne; his mother, Celia Murphy; brother Randall Murphy, three sisters, Rhonda Murphy-Doud, Ruth Garrett and Robin Murphy; several nieces and nephews; and his numerous “baby girls”, “baby dolls” and riding brothers.

He was preceded in death by his father and two sons Joel Murphy and Jason Freeman.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, May 31 at the Burlington Eagles #150 beginning at 4 p.m. A memorial has been established.
