Simone Davidson-Brumfield, 28, of Burlington, died Monday, Oct. 18, 2021, at her home.

Born December 2, 1992, in Saint Louis, Mo., she was the daughter of Denise Wilkins and Greg Davidson, and raised by Denise and Paul Wilkins. She was married to Louis Brumfield, Jr. in 2017.

Simone attended Burlington High School until her senior year and then graduated from Hazelwood West High School in Hazelwood, Mo. She worked at Hy-Vee at the age of 14. She also worked at Kohl's in St. Louis prior to working as a med-tech for a pharmacy there.

She was of the Christian faith and attended various churches in Burlington.

Survivors include her parents, Denise and Paul Wilkins; husband of Troy, Mo.; one daughter, Kehlani Blue Brumfield; one son, Greyson Presley Prince Prutsman; four siblings, Persaphone Tai Grant of LaHarpe, and Paul Wilkins, Jr., Ciera Wilkins, and Alena Wilkins all of Burlington; grandparents, Sidney Gaines and Flora Wilkins of Burlington and Charlie and Evelyn Davidson of Florissant, Mo; and father, Greg Davidson.

The funeral service for Simone was Friday, Oct. 29 at Prugh-Thielen Funeral Home with Pastor Nathan Williams officiating.  Burial will be in in Keokuk National Cemetery, Monday, Nov. 1 at 2 p.m.

Tobias King Junior Lee Haynes, two months old, died Thursday, Oct. 21, 2021.

Born August 13, 2021, in Burlington, he was the son of Marsha Haynes.&nbsp;

Tobias was a very sweet and playful little boy. He loved to hold his mommy's hand and listen to her heart beat. He was always full of giggles and always had his favorite blankets with him.&nbsp;

Thomas Arthur Hull, 70, of Burlington, died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2021, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born June 15, 1951, in Fort Madison, Tom was the son of Thomas E. and Evelyn Queisner Hull.&nbsp; He married Char Swisher in 1971; they later divorced. On June 21, 1985, he married Vickie Johnson Orth in Burlington.&nbsp;

Allen W. Schillie, 65, of Danville, died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2021, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born March 13, 1956, in Kirksville, Mo., he was the son of Hurley "Sparky" and Lula Harrison Schillie. On July 27, 1985, he married Connie Jo Downs in Danville.&nbsp;

Allen was the city supervisor for the city of Danville for over 40 years. He was the assistant fire chief from 2016 to present and a captain for 20 years with over 40 years of service to the Danville Fire Department.

Survivors include his wife; mother; three sons, Jason Fisher and Joseph Schillie, both of Danville, and Joshua Schillie of Des Moines; one daughter, Amanda Schillie of Danville; seven grandchildren; two brothers, Bob Schillie of Waverly and Les Schillie of Danville; and one sister, Angie McCannon of Burlington.

Family will receive friends Friday, Oct. 29 from 4 until 7 p.m., at the Danville Fire Station.

The funeral service for Allen will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 30 at Danville Fire Station with the Reverend Jack Edmisson officiating.&nbsp;

Due to limited parking, there will be a shuttle available Saturday, Oct. 30 from the ball fields behind the Danville school, starting at 9 a.m. to drop off at the service. Carl J. "Jim" Blackburn, 64, of Niota died Sunday, Oct. 24, 2021.

Born Jan. 2, 1957, in Rockford, Ill., he was the son of Carl Jennings and Velma Lee Lewis Blackburn. On Dec. 18, 2004, he married Shayla M. Amenell in Kahoka, Mo.&nbsp;

Betty J. Williams Donovan, 80, of Burlington died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2021, at 1:47 a.m. at Azria Health Prairie Ridge in Mediapolis.&nbsp;

Born Sept. 22, 1941, in El Reno, Okla., she was the daughter of Curran Newton and Hazel Bell Klohn Williams. Betty graduated in 1960 from Springville High School in Springville, Iowa.

Betty married Leroy Bird in 1965, and they divorced November 1967. She married Russell George Grawet Dec. 19, 1967; he died Aug. 20, 1984. Betty married Michael J. Donovan; he died Feb. 14, 1992.

Survivors include three daughters, Robin Stivers of Burlington, Rayline Householder of Toledo, Ohio, and Rose Grawet of Kentucky; stepchildren, Henry Grawet of Oquawka, Raymond Grawet of Keithsburg, Becky Davis of Illinois, Valerie Grawet and George Grawet of Belle Plaine, Iowa; one sister, Evelyn Ferguson of Texas; and one brother, Newton Curran Williams of Tennessee.

Rosa Darlene Parsons, 87, of Burlington, died Monday, Oct. 25, 2021, at her home.

Born May 28, 1934, in Kirksville, Mo., she was the daughter of Arthur Roy and Edna Opal Norman Mahurin. On June 16, 1957, she married Everett Eugene Parsons in Kirksville. He died April 16, 1997.

Before becoming a housewife, Rosa worked for Midwest Biscuit for six years. She was a member of the Concordia Lutheran Church.&nbsp;

Survivors include her two sons, Jeff Parsons and Terry Parsons, both of Burlington; one daughter, Lori Goodwin of Burlington; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Visitation will be Friday, Oct. 29 at Prugh-Thielen Funeral Home with the family to receive friends from 9 until 10 a.m.

Richard Jerome “Dick” Japsen, 89, of Burlington, passed away Sunday, Oct. 24, 2021, at the Klein Center in West Burlington.

Born Oct. 28, 1931, in Burlington, he was the son of Hans Conrad and Esther Catherine Wales Japsen. He graduated from Sperry High School in 1949.&nbsp;

He married Rosemary Aid in November 1958; they later divorced. On April 1, 1991, he married Kathryn "Kitsie" Steer in Burlington.&nbsp;

Dick served in the Naval Reserves. He worked for Farm Service, Beckman TV and Appliance, Atlas Truck and Radiator, and for 18 years as a service company manager for Atlas Trucking.&nbsp;

He was a member of SS. John and Paul Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus and was a long time Southeastern Community College Blackhawks basketball booster.&nbsp;

On October 9, 1986, he met Bill W., and they became lifelong friends from that day forward.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Lorna Holland of Des Moines, and Molly Miller of North Liberty; three step-sons, James Steer, Joseph Steer, and Todd Steer; one step-daughter, Ann Loehrke; five grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; and one brother, Brian Japsen of Burlington.

As per Dick's request cremation has been accorded.

Visitation will be 10 until 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 28 at Divine Mercy Parish-St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.

Frank H. Niehaus, 97, of Burlington, died Oct. 24, 2021.&nbsp;

Born on Christmas Day in 1923, he was the middle son of Lawrence Henry and Lela Genieva Piper Niehaus. He graduated from Mediapolis High School with the class of 1941.

Inducted into military service for World War II, Frank spent the first year in California with the Army’s coast defense unit. Frank spent a year in the south Pacific’s Solomon Islands and a year in the Philippines. During the battle of Luzon, he was awarded a bronze star.

On Nov. 27, 1947, he married Bette A. Wilson. She died on Feb. 14, 2004.

Frank worked as a tool and die maker. Starting at Klein Manufacturing, he then moved to Sylvania. Other employers included Murray, IAAP, and General Electric from where he retired in 1988.

He was a 75-year member of the American Legion and a member of the Bass Club.

Survivors include one son, Todd A. Niehaus of San Diego, Calif. and one daughter, Lisa L. Hill of Burlington.

Karen Lynn Steinnagel, 58, of Burlington, died on Sunday, Oct. 24, 2021, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City. Born Dec. 5, 1962, in New Brunswick, N.J., she was the daughter of Earle Steinnagel and Mary Ann Solontoi.

Karen was of the Christian faith and enjoyed performing ballet. Survivors include her father and step-mother, Leila Steinnagel, of East Brunswick, N.J.&nbsp;

Carole Susanne Peet, 62, died Saturday, Oct. 23, 2021, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City.

Born Dec. 21, 1958, in Ft Belvoir, Va.,she was the daughter of Roger and Susie Stevens.&nbsp;

Carole married Steven Peet in Cedar Rapids in 1986; they later divorced.

Carole graduated from Burlington Community High School in 1977. She attended SCC in West Burlington, graduating in 1979. She then transferred to Iowa State University, graduating in 1982 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Food Technology (Microbiology).

After college, Carole worked for Cargill International at various locations and retired in 2014.&nbsp;

She attended Christ is Lord Church in Omaha, Neb., and later Faith Christian Outreach church after moving to Mount Pleasant. She played clarinet in the Omaha Metro Municipal Band.&nbsp;

Survivors include two brothers, Rex Stevens and Tom Stevens of Burlington and one sister, Sharon Detrick of Mount Pleasant.

Carole Susanne Peet, 62, died Saturday, Oct. 23, 2021, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City.Born Dec. 21, 1958, in Ft Belvoir, Va.,she was the daughter of Roger and Susie Stevens.&nbsp;Carole married Steven Peet in Cedar Rapids in 1986; they later divorced. Carole graduated from Burlington Community High School in 1977. She attended SCC in West Burlington, graduating in 1979. She then transferred to Iowa State University, graduating in 1982 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Food Technology (Microbiology). After college, Carole worked for Cargill International at various locations and retired in 2014.&nbsp;She attended Christ is Lord Church in Omaha, Neb., and later Faith Christian Outreach church after moving to Mount Pleasant. Survivors include two sons, John McCrory and Eric McCrory, and two grandsons.

Phyllis Antonette Knopp, 95, of Burlington, died Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2021, at Klein Center in West Burlington.

Born July 5, 1926, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Edward Marcus and Josephine Marie Deitering Kelso. On Aug. 5, 1950, she married Richard Laverne Knopp in Burlington. He died July 9, 2019.

Mrs. Knopp was a homemaker and worked 10 plus years in the gift shop at Mercy Hospital.

She was a 1944 graduate of St. Paul's Catholic High School, member of SS. John &amp; Paul Catholic Church and the Daughters of Isabella. She was also a member of Mercy Hospital auxiliary, St. Francis Care Center auxiliary and AARP.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Richard Wayne Tiemeyer, 86, of Fort Madison, died Monday, Oct. 18, 2021, at the Donnellson Health Care Center.

Born Sept. 16, 1935, in Burlington, he was the son of Delbert Charles and Stella Louise Kubisch Tiemeyer. In 1962, he married Elizabeth Ann Brown in St. Louis, Mo. They later divorced.

Richard was a child psychologist and family therapist for 44 years.

He was a 1953 graduate from Burlington High School. He received his associate degree from Burlington College in 1955. He graduated with honors from the University of Iowa with a bachelor's degree in 1957; and he was also elected into the Phi Beta Kappa honorary fraternity. He then went on to receive a master's degree in psychology from the University of Iowa in 1958. He did additional graduate level work at the University of Iowa and Emory University in Atlanta, Ga.&nbsp;

He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church. He was a past state president of the Iowa Mental Health Counselors Association. He was also the resident commissioner of the Low Rent Housing Authority of the city of Burlington. He was a member of RSVP and on the RSVP Advisory Board, AARP, Operation Restore Trust of Iowa and active in the Democratic Party.&nbsp;

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh-Thielen Crematory.

The graveside committal service for Mr. Tiemeyer will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23 at Aspen Grove Cemetery with Pastor Dean Graber officiating.&nbsp;

Kenny was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving during World War II, and received a Purple Heart and Bronze Star.

Kenny was a tool &amp; die design engineer. He started with JI Case then worked for Sheaffer Pen before going back to JI Case. Kenny retired from JI Case in 1984 after a 30-year career.

He was a member of Divine Mercy Parish-SS John and Paul Catholic Church. He was also a member of Burlington Golf Club, McDonald's Coffee Club, American Legion, and the YMCA, and started the first Little League baseball program in Burlington, coaching the first All Star team as well as the American Legion team.

Survivors include two daughters, Cheryl (Jim) Cushman of Omaha, Neb., and Kathy (Dave) Ford of Burlington; two sons, Steve (Patti) Sorensen of Bettendorf and Dave Sorensen of Burlington; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Don (Jean "Nettie") Sorensen of Lake Odessa, Iowa.

Robert Scott “Rob” “Robbie” Deitrick, 64, of Burlington died peacefully after a courageous battle of liver cancer, on Oct 18, 2021, surrounded by his wife and three daughters.&nbsp;

Rob was born on Jan 16, 1957, to Elaine and Franklin Deitrick.

Rob met and married his wife of 39 years, Rhonda DeReu, while serving in the U.S. Army. They married on Jan 15, 1982, in Newport News, Va.&nbsp;

Together they had three beautiful daughters: Jenny (Chuck) Reid, Angie (Brandon Swank) Deitrick, and Sammy (Lance) Jones who flourished his life with seven grandchildren: Braden, Jakson, and Bryce Reid; Brayden and Colton Jones; and Autumn and Julian Swank.&nbsp;

His siblings are Debbie (Mathew) Smithson, Dale “Dutch” (Denise) Deitrick, and Shelly (Rich) Yotter.&nbsp;

He teased and loved all his nieces and nephews as well as his great-nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

Rob was a stranger to none, he was a great storyteller, always ready to shake a hand, and make you laugh. He was a dancer and singer amongst his family. A lovable goof! He loved birds and collecting horse memorabilia and was a fan of the San Francisco Giants and Cleveland Browns. He played baseball and football while attending Mediapolis High, graduating in 1975.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Jim, and grandparents.&nbsp;

Rob marched to the beat of his own tune. God has accepted him with love, as those who knew him.&nbsp;

There will be no visitation. The funeral will be held Monday, Oct. 25 at 11 a.m. at Burlington Harmony Church, 550 Division St., Burlington. Family and close friends may meet at 10 a.m. A meal will be served after service at the church.

Jeannette L. Mehaffy, 86, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Burlington, died Sunday, Oct. 17, 2021, at her residence.&nbsp;

Born May 16, 1935, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Harry S. and Louise G. “Billie” Chapman Gahn. On Sept. 24, 1952, she married Kenneth D. Mehaffy in Burlington.

Mrs. Mehaffy worked for Kraft Heinz-Muscatine, served as head chef at Ridgewood Elementary School in East Moline, Ill., and worked for MCI as a telemarketer in Cedar Rapids.

A celebration of life will be at a later date in Cedar Rapids.A memorial has been established.
