Ruth Elaine Timmerman, 79, of Mediapolis, died Sunday, March 3, 2024, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born Aug. 19, 1944, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Gaylord Thompson and Goldie Marie Taylor Hollenbeck. On Dec. 17, 1979, she married James Edward Timmerman in Burlington. He died on July 29, 2004.

Ruth worked in the laundry department for Great River Hosptial for 10+ years as well as many other jobs in Burlington over the years.

Ruth enjoyed working outdoors; especially mowing her lawn and landscaping. She always had a well kept house and would never let her car go below half tank. She enjoyed spending time with her sister, Carolyn Moser and cousins, Sharon Poggemiller and Burt Prier.

Survivors include her son, Kenneth (Cindy) Huffman of Mediapolis; one step-son, Patrick Timmerman of West Burlington; four grandchildren, Brayden (Cheyenne) Huffman, Drake (Courtenay) Huffman, Jamie Timmerman and Alex Timmerman; one great-grandson, Jameson Huffman and one sister, Carolyn Moser of Kingston.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, two step-sons, John and Robert Timmerman, two brothers, Bud and Jim Hollenbeck and one sister, Joyce Lillie.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

Visitation will be from noon until 7 p.m. with the family to receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 7, 2024, at Prugh's Chapel, 317 North 4th Street. Burial will be in Latty Cemetery at a later date.

Laken Deehring was carried by Jesus into Heaven on February 28, 2024. He is so very loved and missed by his parents, Tyler and Katelynn Deehring, and big sister Lindy. Laken’s great grandparents, Poppy, Grandma Jo-annie, and Grandpa Henry, along with a few other relatives welcomed him into Heaven with big open arms. Laken has the best parents and family who have been excited to meet him, and now they will just wait a little longer until united again for all eternity.&nbsp;

Missing him and remembering him here forever are his Grandpa Rob (Pa) and Grandma Mary (Lovie) Henry, Grandpa (Papa) Jeff and Grandma (Mimi) Tracy Deehring, Uncle Jacob and Aunt Kayla Henry, Auntie Kels, Aunt Karma, and cousins Wade &amp; Johanna, along with many great aunts and uncles and cousins. Edgar F. Smith, 85, of Burlington, died Thursday, Feb. 29, 2024, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born May 14, 1938, in Mc Cormick, S.C. He married Beverly Joan Starr in April 2016.&nbsp;

Edgar was very kind to everyone. He never met a stranger and he talked to everyone he came in contact with. He was a good dancer and enjoyed gardening and working in his yard.

Survivors include his wife, Beverly Joan Smith of Burlington; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by seven siblings.

A memorial service for Edgar will be held and service details will be posted when they become available.

Vera Fox, 90, of Burlington, died Friday, March 1, 2024 at her son’s home in Danville.

Born June 9, 1933 in Beardstown, Ill., she was the daughter of Lloyd and Mayme (Heitz) Alcorn.

She graduated from Beardstown High School in 1951. On Nov. 16, 1957, she married Clarence Cleatus Fox in Beardstown, Illinois. He died Jan. 6, 1999.

Vera retired from Champion Spark Club in 1991 after 33 years of service. She previously worked for Sylvania and Tommy Myers Grocery Store in Beardstown.

Vera was of the Christian faith and recently became a member of Long Creek United Methodist Church in Danville, Iowa. She was a member of UAW Local 1237. She was an outstanding high school athlete and continued playing on several semi-pro softball teams. Vera loved being outdoors in the sunshine, golfing, gardening, mowing, picking up nuts, and helping on the farm. She participated in several bowling and golf leagues with her sisters Joyce, Phyllis and friends. She enjoyed fast cars especially her Impala S/S and playing the music LOUD! She cherished her only son, Stacy. She loved bragging about her grandkids Drake, Drew and Ella who referred to her as Grandma V. She was very competitive, ornery and loved to make people laugh and smile.

Survivors include one son Stacy (Cindy) Fox of Danville and three grandchildren Drake, Drew and Ella Fox.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Clarence, three brothers Harold, Kenny and Jerry Alcorn and two sisters Phyllis Conn and Joyce Johnson.

The memorial service for Vera will be 11 a.m., Saturday, March 16, 2024, at Lunning Chapel with Reverend David Mixon officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

A private Inurnment will be in Blakeway Cemetery in Danville.

Cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.

Linda Kay John, 68, of Burlington, died Sunday, March 3, 2024 at her home.

Born July 13, 1955 in Lansing, Michigan, she was the daughter of Nancy Riggs Black.

Linda graduated from Grand Ledge High School in Grand Ledge, Michigan. She married Randy John on Nov. 22, 1983, in Beaufort, South Carolina. They recently celebrated their 40th anniversary.

Linda had a strong Christian Faith. She was a vet assistant and loved all animals. She was a people person with a kind heart. She loved working with flowers and the outdoors.

Survivors include her husband Randy of Burlington and two sisters Leslie Bird of Rolla, Mo. and Beverly Jones of Vicksburg, Mich.

She was preceded in death by her mother Nancy; infant son; brother Keith and sister Kathy.

Kenneth “Kenny” Hootman, 49, of Burlington, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died March 1, 2024, after a vigilant battle with cancer.

Born April 4, 1974, in Burlington, he was the son of Mark and Susan Patton Hootman.

He was a 1992 graduate of Burlington High School and a 1997 graduate of Upper Iowa University.

Kenny worked as a counselor in a residential treatment center for MHI for the last 4 years. He was a lifelong member of Troop #3, Boy Scouts of America, earning his Eagle Scout and Medicine Man merit badge and the Tribe of the Silver Tomahawk. He was recently named as the 2023 Shoquoquon District Mississippi Valley Council Scouter of the Year.

Kenny was a beautiful soul who touched numerous lives throughout his time here on earth. He was a one-of-a-kind man who didn’t know a stranger, and wore his heart on his sleeve, all the while holding nothing back! Always looking for the best place in any given city for tattoos, Kenny was known for his love of good art and live music. He didn’t ask for much from anyone, just for respect (which was easy with Kenny) and to be treated like you, yourself wished to be treated. The last four years of his life were the worst, but best, because he lived for him and was able to check some pretty awesome things off of his bucket list (thanks to amazing friends, and now family). Kenny was a true warrior and he fought until the very end!

He leaves behind his father, Mark Hootman; devoted sister Melissa Hootman-Paige; niece and nephew, Cheyenne Paige and Trenton Paige; great nieces and nephews Katherine Bilskey, Ella Bilskey, Grace Perry and Kaden Stolworthy; aunts, uncles and cousins and special friends Ben and Doris Geren, Rob and Tina Sellers and Blitz Creek!

He was preceded in death by his mother and paternal and maternal grandparents.

A visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 16 at Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends. A celebration of life will be held beginning at noon, Saturday, April 6 at the Burlington Eagles #150.

Nancy Jane Simpson, 90, a longtime resident of Burlington, died in her home on Thursday, Feb. 29, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on Nov. 22, 1933, in Tulsa, Okla., Nancy was the cherished daughter of Ed and Elizabeth Mae Roglitz. On Nov. 1, 1978, she entered into marriage with Frederick Byrd Simpson in Reno, Nev.

Nancy was affectionately known as an "Okie" with a fiery spirit. She was renowned for her candid nature, always speaking her mind with honesty and integrity. Despite her occasional orneriness and unfiltered opinions, she possessed a heart of gold and exhibited boundless generosity, touching the lives of many through her random acts of kindness.&nbsp;

Nancy found great joy in gathering with loved ones for spirited card and board games, her favorites including spite &amp; malice, hand &amp; foot, cribbage, backgammon, and zilch. She cherished moments spent poring over family photographs and relished in the company of her children and grandchildren.

Music was her constant companion, a symphony that colored her days with joy. Country songs, in particular, held a special place in her heart, and she could often be found lost in the rhythm as her favorite tunes echoed through the house. For Nancy, these simple pleasures were the essence of happiness.

Nancy leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion. She is survived by her devoted husband of 45 years, Fred Simpson; her daughter, Michelle Sandoval and husband, Rick; four sons, Vernon Baker and wife Daleyn, Stephen Baker, Phillip Baker and wife Candy, Keevin Simpson and wife Jaena; son-in-law, Mike Narez; as well as 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. She now joins her departed daughter, ReDanna Jean Narez, who eagerly awaited her in the afterlife.

Nancy Jane Simpson

Betty A. McPherson, 100, of Burlington, died Thursday, Feb. 29, 2024, at the Klein Center in West Burlington.

Born April 24, 1923, in Burlington, she was the daughter of William and Hattie Trobee Lippert. She married Hartley Allen McPherson on May 1, 1943 in Kahoka, Mo. He died Sept. 30, 2011.

She was a 1941 graduate of Burlington High School.&nbsp;

Her last employment was with James Madison School as the head cook.&nbsp;

Jesus was most important to Betty, along with her family. She was a member of Oak Street Baptist. She was a Sunday School Teacher for 50 Years, a member of Mariam Circle and a Deaconess. Betty read her Bible daily, memorized and quoted many Scriptures. She was a Girl Scout Leader. She loved being a mother and enjoyed supporting her husband, children and grandchildren at their sporting events.&nbsp;

Survivors include three children, Gary McPherson of Burlington Cynthia (Lynn) Decious of Anamosa and Mike (Alla) McPherson of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren; Jason, Kristen, Dane, and Joshua; four great-grandchildren; Devon, Cole, Keigan, and Jaxtin; three great great-grandchildren; Ya'Zier, Isabella, and Cameron and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers, Clarence, Glenn, Oscar, Ralph, Walter and Donald, four sisters, Melva, Gladys, Ruth and Genevieve.&nbsp;

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at Oak Street Baptist Church, 1303 Oak Street, Burlington.

She married Hartley Allen McPherson on May 1, 1943 in Kahoka, Mo. He died Sept. 30, 2011.She was a 1941 graduate of Burlington High School.&nbsp;Her last employment was with James Madison School as the head cook.&nbsp;Jesus was most important to Betty, along with her family. She was a member of Oak Street Baptist. She was a Sunday School Teacher for 50 Years, a member of Mariam Circle and a Deaconess. Betty read her Bible daily, memorized and quoted many Scriptures. She was a Girl Scout Leader. Randy Joe Drish of Burlington, died Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2024, after checking out of the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.&nbsp; He was surrounded by his family.&nbsp;&nbsp;

On Aug. 31, 1949, in Chariton, Ralph and Wynona L. Brown Drish welcomed Randy into the world with open arms.&nbsp; He grew up enjoying the outdoors and with a fondness for animals. Whether he was hunting them, catching them or raising them, Randy always had an animal in the box and an alligator in the bathtub.&nbsp; Throughout high school, he worked 40 hours per week between two part time jobs at S&amp;R Mobile and Hotel Burlington. He graduated from Burlington Community High School in 1968.&nbsp;&nbsp;

A year later, on Aug. 16, 1969, Randy married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Sue Phillips at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Burlington.&nbsp; The couple had been dating since they were both 14 years old.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Randy served his country faithfully as a medic in the US Army from March 20, 1970, until Dec. 20, 1975.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Randy retired as a supervisor from JI Case Company in 2003 after 36 years of service.&nbsp; Upon retirement, Randy worked as a self employed contractor, building whatever was needed for whoever needed it.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Randy was an outgoing people person who loved to have fun.&nbsp; He loved to hunt deer and catch catfish.&nbsp; Randy spent the majority of his free time boating, skiing ,and camping with his family and friends on the Mississippi River.&nbsp; He loved to play cards, especially a game called “31”, and if you had $3 he would be more than happy to teach you.&nbsp; Randy loved to show people how to do new things and he had an unmatched drive to get tasks completed.&nbsp; Randy was a big fan of the St Louis Cardinals and made a ton of memories at Busch Stadium.&nbsp; He loved everything to do with trains, guns and 60’s music.&nbsp; Randy especially loved his family, most notably his grandkids and great grandkids.&nbsp; He will be remembered for his welcoming nature and his ability to build anything.&nbsp; Whether it was a hot tub, cabin, the waterfall in the Hospice House or an entire house, his talents knew no boundaries.&nbsp; Randy was loved by all who knew him and he will be forever missed.

The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection for Mr. Drish will be 11 a.m.&nbsp; Monday, March 4, 2024, at Divine Mercy Parish-St. Paul's Catholic Church with Rev. Father Michael T. Phillips as the Celebrant. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held at the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie # 150 (2727 Mt. Pleasant Street) following the burial.&nbsp;

Kelli Sharlene Reif, age 58, died Monday Feb. 26, 2024 in the presence of her loving family.

Kelli was born Nov. 21, 1965 in Burlington. She was the daughter of George Reif and Lorraine Johnson Reif.

Kelli grew up in Sperry and graduated from Mediapolis Community School District in 1984. On May 18, 1985, she married Bill Moehn, they later divorced in 2013. She was of the Methodist faith.

Over the years she worked at various restaurants as a server, the Quality Inn and was Assistant Manager at Long John Silvers. She owned A1 Antiques and Unique's for many years, as well as Big Momma's Gifts and Goodies.

Kelli had a curious spirit and enjoyed meeting new people. She enjoyed fishing, camping, bowling and traveling. She excelled in Art and attended SCC for art classes. She was best known for her custom Pinatas that she created and designed for parties.

Kelli loved going to flea markets and setting up at fairs and festivals. Kids enjoyed coming to her booth at the area County Fairs and everyone remembers her for her novelty gifts she sold. She was very active in her children’s athletics and other school events including being the coach of their soccer team and also serving on local PTA committees.

She was an avid patron of Steamboat Days and never missed a concert in over 20 years. She loved REO Speedwagon, having been to over 15 concerts with her sister.

Kelli started collecting monkeys as a child begining with her favorite doll being Jo-Jo the monkey. She had hundreds of different monkeys, figurines, etc. She named each one beginning with the letter J in their name.

She is survived by two sons, Marc (Deme Hamilton) Moehn and Monte Moehn; two grandsons, Braxten Moehn and Gage Cable Moehn; her sister Rhonda Reif, and her beloved dog, Traveler, as well as various aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her mother and father.

A memorial service is planned for Thursday March 7, 2024, at 11:30 a.m. at the Loft on 416 Jefferson Street Burlington. Interment will be at a later date. A memorial fund has been established.

Mr. Lonnie J. Herbert, 54, of Ft. Madison, died Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2024, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

Born June 27, 1969, in Canton, Ill., he was the son of Jerry Lee and Linda Carol Cattron Herbert.

He was a graduate of New London High School in 1987 and attended 1 year at Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge, Iowa.

On Nov. 5, 2011 he married Teresa Calvert in Crapo Park. They later divorced but remained good friends.

Lonnie worked for 10 years in the warehouse at Federal Mogul. He was the current Vice President of the UAW Local 1237. He was an avid reader and especially enjoyed Stephen King novels. Lonnie played frisbee golf and liked to cook. He was known for his cheesecakes.

Survivors include his mother, Linda (Clarence) Mitchell of West Burlington; brother Jamie (Cheryl) Herbert of Cedar Rapids; niece Arya Herbert; step-brother Mike Mitchell of Keosauqua, Iowa; step-sister Jill Holt of Georgetown, Ill.; paternal grandmother Bette Herbert of Kahoka, Mo. and aunts and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, maternal grandparents and paternal grandfather.

The celebration of life for Lonnie will be 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Thursday, March 7 at Lunning Chapel. A luncheon will follow at Machinist Hall in Middletown. Inurnment will be at Wiley Cemetery in Ellisville, Ill. at a later date

Born Aug. 4, 1938, in Burlington, she was the daughter of John and Dorothy Nelson Elliott.&nbsp;

Beverly was a woman of many talents and worked for many companies in the area. You may have seen her working at the following; multiple factories in the area, Family Medicine, The Salvation Army Store, Hawkeye Motors, Automatic Vending at G.E., Antennacraft, Champion, Evan's Candy Store and recently at Smokey V's Food Truck.

She loved the Lord and enjoyed attending Harmony Bible Church. Beverly enjoyed crocheting, sewing and trips to the ocean. She would be found feeding the birds, tending to her plants, or sitting on the porch with her dog Manny, smoking and either working on a crossword or reading the Hawkeye. She could also be found riding on the back of a motorcycle, at the casino, or listing to Classic Rock or Elvis. But the most important thing to Beverly was her family. She would have Sunday Night Dinners, celebrate everyone's birthdays, and never missed her grandchildren's events.&nbsp;

She will be remembered for her wonderful simile, selflessness, and was always helping everyone.&nbsp;

Survivors include her daughters, Marcia Brockway of Burlington, Laura Teesdale of Mountain Rest, S.C., and Pam (V.J.) Koett of Burlington; five grandchildren, John, Drew (Elizabeth), Tommy (Joselyn), Lisa (Dennis), and Jimmy; one niece, Beth Elliott; one nephew, Tim Elliott; beloved dog, Mannny, and all of her extended family.

Irma Wilson, 90, of Charles City, formerly of Burlington, passed away Sunday, Feb. 25, 2024 at the 11th&nbsp;Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

A funeral service for Irma Wilson will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 29, 2024 at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home with Beth Hurt from Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church officiating.&nbsp; Burial will be at Sunnyside Memory Garden in rural Charles City.

Visitation will be one hour before the service at the funeral home on Thursday.

Irma Lou Borchardt Wilson was born Oct. 8, 1933 at Nashua, Iowa, the daughter of Richard and Loretta Conley Borchardt. She married Bob Wilson on May 27, 1967 and he died on Oct. 8, 1988.&nbsp;

Irma graduated from Charles City High School in 1952 and Burlington Hospital School of Nursing in 1957. She worked as a staff nurse there for years and a nursing instructor for three years before teaching at Southeastern Community College in the LPN and RN programs for 25 years. She was the DON at the Stronghurst, Ill. Nursing Home when it opened. She retired from Klein Nursing Home in Burlington.&nbsp;

Irma loved to travel and had visited 46 states. In 2017, she took a trip to Alaska (land and cruise), a long-time desire to do so. She loved visiting Peggy's Cove in Nova Scotia and did so several times. She collected lighthouses, Santa Clauses, and clowns. She did embroidery, jigsaw puzzles, crossword puzzles, and loved visiting with family and friends. She was of the Lutheran faith. She was a member of Jane Delano Retired Nurses Association, the Burlington Gym Auxiliary, and Eagle's Auxiliary.&nbsp;

Irma's survivors include niece, Vicky Semelhack and husband Don of Mora, Minnesota; great-nephew, Dan (Kate) Semelhack with great-great-nephews, Ollie and Teddy and great-great-niece, Audrey of Golden Valley, Minn.; great-niece, Amy (Bryant) Johnson with great-great-nephews, Wesley and Will of St Louis Park, Minesota; step-daughters: Connie (Gerald) Herman and Marcia (Brian) Luers of Burlington; step-son, Mike Wilson of West Burlington; sister-in-law, Lyneen Brunsting of Charles City; and several great-grandchildren.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bob; brother, Robert; niece, Becky and husband Jim Royal; great-nephew, Andrew Semelhack; grandparents; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She married Bob Wilson on May 27, 1967 and he died on Oct. 8, 1988.&nbsp;Irma graduated from Charles City High School in 1952 and Burlington Hospital School of Nursing in 1957. She worked as a staff nurse there for years and a nursing instructor for three years before teaching at Southeastern Community College in the LPN and RN programs for 25 years. She was the DON at the Stronghurst, Ill. Nursing Home when it opened. She retired from Klein Nursing Home in Burlington.&nbsp;Irma loved to travel and had visited 46 states. In 2017, she took a trip to Alaska (land and cruise), a long-time desire to do so. She loved visiting Peggy's Cove in Nova Scotia and did so several times. She collected lighthouses, Santa Clauses, and clowns. She did embroidery, jigsaw puzzles, crossword puzzles, and loved visiting with family and friends. She was of the Lutheran faith. Terry Heckenberg, 80, of Burlington, died Feb. 20, 2024, at his home. Terry's journey on earth has come to a close, but his spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.

Born to Karl and Dorothy Heckenberg at Burlington Hospital on Oct. 23, 1943, Terry grew up on his family’s farm in Danville, where he touched the lives of many with his warm heart and genuine personality. &nbsp;He graduated from Danville High School in 1961. He later moved to Denver where he served a shortened term for his country in the United States Army National Guard. &nbsp;Terry spent most of his life in Sales and loved doing that. When Terry wasn’t visiting with friends, you could find him watching old movies or sports, working on a crossword puzzle and most notably spending time with his wife Beverly at home.

Terry was a man of many talents and passions, but perhaps most notably known for his gift of gab and his ability to connect with others. Terry was a great conversationalist who enjoyed spending time with friends. He loved nothing more than engaging in lively discussions with friends and acquaintances, sharing stories, and making meaningful connections. His charismatic personality and genuine interest in others endeared him to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Throughout his life, Terry touched the lives of countless individuals with his warm personality, generosity, and natural charm.

Terry will be deeply missed by his beloved wife of 24 years Beverly (Miller) Burlington, who was his rock and source of unwavering happiness and support. In addition to his devoted wife, Terry is survived by three sons Marc (Cyndy), Jared (Stephanie), &amp; Ryan (Brittany) Heckenberg of Arvada, Colo., his sister Linda Craven of Burlington, seven grandchildren (Terra, Haley, Gage, Hayden, Ally, Henry, Austyn), four great-grandchildren (Taylynn, Ridley, Ryker, Raven) and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. He took immense pride in his family and found immeasurable joy in spending time with them.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Terry, his parents Karl &amp; Dorothy, and his niece Audra.

As we mourn Terry's passing, let us also celebrate the remarkable life he lived and the profound impact he had on those around him. May his soul rest in eternal peace, knowing that he was dearly loved, will never be forgotten and that his legacy continue to shine in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Terry Heckenberg

Darsi Lynn Hodgkin, 59, of Burlington, died Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2024, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born Feb. 19, 1965, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Joann Lee Bell Smith.&nbsp;

She was a graduate of Burlington High School and obtained her Associate's degree from Southeastern Community College.&nbsp;

She worked for a time at Stackers and Green Lantern bars, did professional cleaning for rental apartments and worked at Addison Mechanical.

Darsi loved to be outside, mushroom hunting, spending time on the river and at her family's cabin. She liked to garden and would can vegetables she grew each year. She was very social and loved spending time with friends, going to parties, playing BINGO, and attending blues concerts at The Washington with her mom. Darsi also loved cooking homemade chicken and noodles and enjoying a good piece of cake with extra frosting.&nbsp;

Survivors include her mother, Joann Lee Smith of Burlington; daughter, Madisyn Weyls of Burlington; sisters, Dawn Howerton and Dede Samul; step-sisters, Debi O'Malley and Patricia Pedon; step-brother, Jeff Smith; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Douglas Smith, grandparents, Lawrence and Vera Bell, uncles, Robert and Terry Bell, aunt, Sharon Phillips and cousin, Steve Morrison.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.&nbsp;

Carolyn J. Warren, 73, of Burlington, died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2024, at her home surrounded by family.

Born June 9, 1950, in Des Moines County, she was the daughter of Howard R.and Imogene Parrott Sink. On July 14, 1973, she married Danny L. Warren in Iowa. 

Carolyn's main job was being a mother. She also worked for the Burlington School's Lunch Programs. 

Carolyn loved quilting and sewing, she even attended quilting shows. She enjoyed her flowers and would can vegetables from her garden. She has a sweet tooth for chocolate, especially chocolate fudge. The most important thing to Carolyn was her family and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband Danny Warren of Burlington; son, Jay (Stephanie) Warren of Burlington; daughter, Roxane (Ben) Nichols of Burlington; three grandchildren, Brittany, Taylor, and Karlie; six great grandchildren; sister, Ramona Heiniger of Burlington; one nephew and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Kathy Banks, and great grandchild, Karter.

Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday, March 1, 2024 at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.

The memorial service for Mrs. Warren will be 10 a.m. Friday, March 1, 2024, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.  Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery at a later date.

Carolyn J. Warren

William A. Schwind, 93, of Burlington, died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2024, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Born April 15, 1930, in a log cabin to William Philip and Susie Mae Harden Schwind in Ringwood, Okla. &nbsp;

Bill attended Burlington High School and graduated in May of 1948. While in school, he was active in Boy Scouts and later, Explorer Scouts.

Bill was drafted into the army in Sept. 1951. He was a paratrooper at Ft. Benning, Ga. until he was discharged in 1953.

On Sept. 27, 1952, he married Mary Jane Ertzinger at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Burlington.

After the army, he earned his mechanical engineering degree in Feb. 1959 from the University of Iowa. He worked for Mason and Hanger - Silas Mason Co. at the Iowa Army Ammunitions Plant.

From there he owned and operated George's Lawnmower and Repair Shop for nine years. Later he worked for Hon Furniture, Klein Manufacturing, Henkel Chemical/Ecolab and V.S.L Corp as an engineering inspector for the cables on the new Mississippi River bridge at Burlington.

For 14 years he worked as the camp ranger at the YMCA Camp McBride. While there, he found improvement projects so that 31 boys could obtain their Eagle Scout awards.

He was a member of Divine Mercy Parish and the Jaycees. He was Concordia Township clerk for 24 years and a Boy Scout leader.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Mary; three daughters, Janice Boyles, Judith (Tim) Wagner, and Jacalyn Mehaffy; two sons, David (Brenda) Schwind, and Darrin Schwind; 10 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Ellis Long; five sisters and son-in-law, Greg Boyles.

Bill always claimed to have a "Full House" - three Queens and two Jacks and that's a full house!

Visitation will be from 12 to 7 p.m.with the family to receive friends following a 4:30 p.m. Rosary Service Monday, February 26, 2024, at &nbsp;Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.

The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection for Mr. Schwind will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2024, at Divine Mercy Parish-St. Paul's Catholic Church with Father Gary Beckman as the Celebrant. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. &nbsp;A time of food and fellowship will be held in the basement at Divine Mercy Parish-St. Paul's Catholic Church following burial.

Carole Lynn Miles, 59, of Burlington, died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2024, at the University of Iowa Hospitals &amp; Clinics.

Born Jan. 23, 1965, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Burdette Arthur "Burt" and Gloria Irene Bare Voss. On May 21, 2022, she married Rick Miles in Burlington.&nbsp;

Carole was a Paraeducator Professional for West Burlington.

Carole had an immense love for her friends as well as her family. She enjoyed crafting, the pool and was an avid animal lover, from rats to lizards.&nbsp;

Survivors include her husband, Rick Miles of Burlington; two children, Lauren Turner and Ben Turner both of Burlington; step-daughter, Teonna &nbsp;Dowell of Ill.; three grandchildren, Cameron Smith, Aaliyana Lewis, and Kaella Lewis; two sisters, Barbara Voss of Lake Mills, Wis. and Diane Wolfe of Olathe, Kan.; and two fur babies, Gemma and Roxy.

She was preceded in death by her parents, former husband, Rick Turner, and step-daughter, Nicole Beeding.

Carole's family will receive guests for visitation at Prugh Funeral Service (3940 Division Street, Burlington) on Friday, March 1, 2024, from 12. to 1:00 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 1 p.m..
