Barbara Jo Kokjohn, 84, of Pontoosuc, Ill., died Monday, Aug. 19, 2024, at the Montrose Healthcare Center in Montrose.&nbsp;

Barb was born March 21, 1940, in Carthage, Ill., the daughter of Arthur Ray and Lucy Pauline Admire Walker. She married Gary Harryman Sr. He preceded her in death. Later, she married Leonard Dennis Kokjohn. He also preceded her in death.&nbsp;

Barb was raised and educated in Dallas City. She worked numerous jobs, including Sheaffer Pen, Sylvania and retired from Methode. She enjoyed flowers, riding horses, animals, especially cats and was fan of Elvis Presley.&nbsp;

Survivors include one sister: Georgia (Dick) Pardall of Franklin, Iowa; one brother: Tom (Nancy) Walker of Pontoosuc, one daughter-in-law: Caroline Harryman; numerous nieces and nephews and a special friend: Patty Gilpin.&nbsp;

Besides her husbands, she was preceded in death by two sons: Gary Harryman Jr. and Darrin Harryman; one daughter: Valerie Benge; one grandson and a brother: Denny Walker.&nbsp;

A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 26, 2024 at Harris Cemetery, near Dallas City with Rev. Jim Luder officiating.&nbsp;

Russell Joe Harris, 62, of Burlington, died Monday, Aug. 19, 2024, at the University of Iowa Hospitals &amp; Clinics in Iowa City.

Born June 18, 1962, in Burlington, Russ was the son of Robert and Dana Alter Harris.

Russ enjoyed being outdoors, whether that was bird watching, riding his scooter or just relaxing. &nbsp;He liked woodworking and would make beautiful pieces for his family. &nbsp;He never passed up an opportunity to watch the Kansas City Chiefs play. &nbsp;He loved his family; his daughter and granddaughter meant the world to him. &nbsp;He loved spending time with Sandler and riding bikes with her around the neighborhood. &nbsp;Russ' kindness will be missed, but his memory will live on through his family and friends.

Russ' family include his daughter, Samantha Harris; siblings, Pam (Jim) Lowry, Rick Harris, Randy (Michelle) Harris, Lori (Doug) Coakley and Ryan (Misty) Harris; granddaughter, Sandler; and numerous nieces and nephews. &nbsp;Sadly, he has been preceded in death by his sister, Connie Vaughan; and parents, Robert and Dana.

A graveside service for Russ will be held at 10 am on Saturday, Aug. 31st at the Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery (10993 115th Ave., Burlington). &nbsp;A celebration of life for Russ will be held at a later date.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Des Moines County Humane Society.

Mary Ann Castle, 71, of Burlington, died Aug. 20, 2024.&nbsp;

Mary Ann Castle was born on Dec. 7, 1952, in Charles City, to Bernard "Spitz" and Susie Monroe. She grew up in Charles City but moved to Nebraska and Texas before returning to Burlington. She was a "homebody" and lived the majority of her life in Burlington.

She was a devoted nurse spending her entire career caring for those in long-term care centers.

Mary has several children and grandchildren. Her children, Danielle Castle (Wayne Green), Nathan Castle (Wendy Castle), and Michelle Castle (Joe Shaffer) ache the loss of their "Momsie" but know she is watching from above. Her grandchildren Katelyn, Cael, Breyen, Addison, Avery, Oliver and Remington will miss their "Crazy Grandma's" joyful play and silliness. Her great-grandchild Asher will miss the love and affection of his great grandmother.

She is preceded in death by her mother, father, sister Leah, brother Greg, and bonus grandchild Tyren Swank. She leaves behind her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, brother (Joe Monroe), brother-in-law (Ron Stuart), niece (Mark and Lisa Schaefer), nephews (Andy Stuart and Scot Stuart), and many friends.

Mary did not know a stranger. She was so blessed to have bonus kids and grandkids. Her love will continue to touch Heidi and Danny Swank and their children Tailor, Morgan, Raven, Jaden and Keagan.

Mary is so loved, is deeply missed, and will always be with us. And we know she is worrying about us and taking care of us as best she can, just from afar now.

Celebration of life will be Friday, Aug. 23, 2024 at Lunning Funeral Chapel from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. followed by a lunch at the 40 &amp; 8 Park to the left of the Bee's Stadium.

Linda S. Mason, 80, of Burlington, died Saturday, Aug. 17, 2024, at Addington Place in Burlington.

Born Sept. 4, 1943, in Champagne-Urbana, IL, she was the daughter of William Franklin and Emily Nadine Wooderson Senn. On May 31, 1963, she married Ronald Wayne &nbsp;in Macomb, Ill. He preceded her in death on Dec. 28, 2017.

She was a graduate of Macomb High School in Macomb, Ill.&nbsp;

Linda loved horses, whether just seeing them or riding, even up to about a year ago, they brought her joy. She loved animals of all kind, especially cats. She enjoyed knitting when she was younger, talking politics, and was a fan of the Chicago Bears and the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Survivors include her son, William Scott (Kellie) Mason of Burlington; two grandchildren, Ian Scott Mason and Aubree Renee Emily Mason; one brother, John Christian (Carol) Senn, IV; one nephew, Brian Mason; and three nieces, Jenny Senn, Terri Burnham, and Megan Mason.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; husband's nephew, Greg John; and husband's niece, Julie Aten.

There will be no visitation or services. She, along with her husband, donated her body to the University of Iowa for medical research.

Ferneitta Viola Woodall, 95, of New London, died peacefully surrounded by family Monday, Aug.19, 2024.&nbsp;

Ferneitta was born March 19, 1929 in Danville, the daughter of Frank Ernest and Sylvia Irene Millizer McCannon.&nbsp;&nbsp;On October 1, 1948 she married Robert D. Woodall in Burlington.&nbsp;&nbsp;He preceded her in death on Aug. 31, 2020. She attended the New London Christian Church and&nbsp;&nbsp;worked for years as a cook for the New London Schools.&nbsp;&nbsp;She enjoyed reading, sitting outside, writing in her journal, Wordsearch puzzles, Hallmark movies, and anytime spent with family.

Ferneitta is survived by daughters, S. Jane (Rick) Salmon of West Burlington, Bonnie Vogeler of Mt. Pleasant, and son Rod (Pam) Woodall of Burlington; ten grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and many great-great grandchildren; brother Frank” Butch” McCannon of Lowell; nieces and nephews, and her cat, Bandit.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two sisters, Dorothy Higdon and Donna Woodall Baker,&nbsp;&nbsp;and son-in-law Steve Vogeler.

John Lane “Jack” Wilhelm,&nbsp;85, of Donnellson, died Saturday, Aug. 17, 2024, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.

He was born on Sept. 6, 1938, in New Boston, Iowa, the son of John S. and Mildred G. Smith Wilhelm. On July 12, 1959, he married Marjorie A. “Marge” Salter at New Boston Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife: Marge; sister: Bonnie Randolph of Fort Madison; brother: Barry Wilhelm of Bernice, Louisiana and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister: Donna Doyle and two brothers: Larry and Robert in infancy.

Jack was a 1956 graduate of Argyle Consolidated High School. He excelled in basketball and baseball. He served for six years in the Iowa Army National Guard Unit (Armored Division) as a tank driver and also served as a cook for his unit. Jack worked for ten years at Dryden Rubber Company/Sheller Globe as a pre-former and he worked for twenty-seven years at J.C. Hubinger Company/Heinz/Roquette America, retiring in 1992. Jack also farmed, raised cattle, hogs and Arabian horses. He was a member of the Donnellson United Methodist Church where he held various church offices over the years. He also served on the Argyle Memorial Garden Cemetery board for many years. He loved hunting as a young man and also enjoyed mushrooming, gardening, farming, traveling, reading, cooking and listening to music. Jack loved animals, especially his Arabian stallion “Bay Rafgez” and his special cat “Tiddly Winks”.

A visitation will begin at 12 noon, Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2024, at Schmitz Funeral Home in Donnellson, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 22, 2024, at Schmitz Funeral Home in Donnellson with Pastor Nancy St. Clair officiating.

Burial will be at Argyle Memorial Garden, rural Argyle, Iowa, with a flag presentation by the Donnellson American Legion Gillaspey - Moodie Post #474.

Terry Perrenoud,&nbsp;81, of Donnellson, Iowa died Saturday, June 22, 2024, at his daughter Sheri’s home in Norwalk.

He was born on May 6, 1943, the son of Keith and Martha Newby Perrenoud. On June 26, 1964, he married Linda Shoemaker in Donnellson.

Survivors include his two daughters:&nbsp; Michelle (Jennifer Blanchard) Perrenoud and Sheri (Tony) Clemenson: five grandchildren: Isabelle and Margret Clemenson, Jacqui, Katie, and Garrett Blanchard: brother Mike (Betty) Perrenoud: sister Diana (Hank) Gerveler. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.

Terry was a 1961 graduate of Central Lee High School. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, woodworking, grilling, traveling, playing cards and camping. He loved old cars, renovating and restoring homes, and landscaping beautiful gardens. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and so much fun to be with.&nbsp;

A celebration of life will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25, 2024, at the Lee County Fair Learning Center in Donnellson.&nbsp; Please dress casually.&nbsp;

Mark Louis Fedler, 73, of Danville, died Saturday, Aug. 10, 2024, at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born in Ft. Madison on Oct. 26, 1950, to Edmund G. and Delores Elizabeth Spiekermeier Fedler.&nbsp;&nbsp;On Aug. 2, 1986, he married Barbara Kay Crouch at First Baptist Church in Danville.

He attended St. Mary Catholic Schools and graduated in 1968 from Marquette High School in West Point.&nbsp;&nbsp;He attended Indian Hills Community College in the culinary arts program following his Navy service.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Mark joined the Navy Feb. 3, 1970 in Des Moines, Iowa where he was sent to boot camp in San Diego.&nbsp;&nbsp;He went to Steward School, served two years at Guantanamo Bay, then two years aboard an aircraft carrier where he was the Steward’s Cook.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was discharged Feb. 3, 1974.&nbsp;&nbsp;After high school, he worked at Freuhauf in Fort Madison for six months before enlisting in the service, then returned to Freuhauf after serving his country, then quit to go into law enforcement.&nbsp;&nbsp;He served the towns of Centerville, Columbus Junction, and Middletown, and retired as the police chief of Danville after twenty-seven years and nine months of service.&nbsp;&nbsp;During this time, he was also a cook at Jack Hamilton’s Supper Club.&nbsp;&nbsp;After retiring he drove a bus for the Danville school district and also worked in their kitchen, then drove a bus for the New London school district for four years.&nbsp;&nbsp;

He enjoyed fishing and mushroom hunting with Luke, Natalie and Hailey; in his earlier years spending time with his nieces and nephews; driving school busses; running the time clock for basketball games; and playing with his grand puppies Connor and Huxley.

He was a member of the Lion’s Club, Southeast Iowa Gas Engine Club, Casebine Credit Union Board of Directors and Danville City Council.&nbsp;&nbsp;He and his wife, Barb were inducted onto the Honor Wall at the Danville Hall of Fame in 2022.

Besides his wife Barb of Danville, he is survived by his daughter Jennifer (Luke) Parrott of Middletown; granddaughters Hailey Nicole and Natalie Corrine; siblings, Connie (Glenn) Ferrell of Fairfield, Pat Becker of Blue Grass, Kathy Hedger of Ft. Madison, Steve Fedler of Des Moines, John (Gina) Fedler of Mantua, Ohio, Mary (Kirk) Shannon of Stockport, Susie Gelsthorpe of Donnellson, Chuck (Kim) Fedler of New Haven, Indiana, Aggie (Bob) Anderson of Donnellson, and Tim (Shari) Fedler of Nokomis, Florida; brothers-in-law George Olsen of Sherman, Texas and Brian Humphrey of South Sioux City, Nebraska; aunt Lorene Fedler of West Point;&nbsp;&nbsp;mother-in-law Doris Crouch of Danville; sister-in-law Peggy (Doug) Fraise of Danville; brother-in-law John (Kerry) Crouch of Yarmouth; many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews; and his fur-daughter “Miss Bailey”.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Christine Olsen and Lori Humphrey; two brothers, Ted Fedler and Ed, Jr. Fedler; father-in-law Lester Crouch; brother-in-law Jerry Becker; sister-in-law Pam Fedler; and nephew Mike Hedger.&nbsp;

According to his wishes, his body has been cremated and a celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, 2024 at Elliott Chapel, New London.&nbsp;&nbsp;Pastor Monte Knudson will officiate.&nbsp;&nbsp;The family will receive friends from 10:00 am until the time of the service.

Mark Louis Fedler, 73, of Danville, died Saturday, Aug. 10, 2024, at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born in Ft. Mark Louis Fedler

Theodore Charles “Ted” Mazur, 78, of Burlington, died Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2024, at Addington Place in Burlington.

Born on July 1, 1946, in Detroit, Michigan, he was the son of Dr. Theodore T. and Jean E. Banks Mazur.

Ted graduated in 1965 from Burlington High School and went on to serve in the United States Army from 1966 to 1972. He worked and retired from General Electric. In his free time, he enjoyed gardening, loved to watch the University of Iowa Hawkeye football games and loved his cat "Cindy".&nbsp; Ted had a kind, gentle and caring heart and was very respectful. He was a care giver to his parents and became primary care giver to his mother after his father passed.

He is survived by his two brothers: Dr. Michael T. (Anna) Mazur of Asheville, N.C., and Daniel R. (Maria) Mazur of Marquette, Mich.; and sister in-law Margaret Mazur of Loveland, CO. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Philip Mazur.

Per his wishes, cremation has been entrusted and accorded to the care of Lunning Chapel. No services will be held at this time. Inurnment will be in Dudley Cemetery in Stickney, S.D. at a later date.

Jereld Dean Burbridge, 93, of Burlington, Iowa, died Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at his home.

Born on Aug. 16, 1930, in Aurora, Mo., he was the son of Marion and Lela Faye McCullah Burbridge. On June 6, 1958, in Crane, Mo., he married Joyce Evelyn King. She preceded him in death on Dec. 28, 2013.

Jereld was a United States Navy veteran and served during the Korean Conflict. He received his under graduate from University of Missouri in Agriculture and went on to obtain his masters degree in Dairy Production. Jereld was a lifelong member of Hawkeye Church serving as the lead deacon and a lifelong member of Mizzou Alumni Association. He was a high school teacher, teaching FFA. Later he became a Standard Operation Procedures Writer for the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant, where he retired from. Jereld enjoyed gardening in the summer. He also enjoyed watching the St. Louis Cardinals and was a huge fan of Mizzou football. Jereld and Joyce loved being with their family. They would often take family vacations to Branson, Missouri and Table Rock Lake where they would meet other relatives. Most of all Jereld love the Lord and being with his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his three children: Jeffrey (Young) Burbridge of Muscatine, Iowa, Jonathan (Janet) Burbridge of Robins, Iowa and Janelle (Mark) Talley of Burlington, Iowa; seven grandchildren: Joseph, Jonathan, Joshua, Austin (Gina), Rachel Burbridge and Carissa (Derek Carter), Drake Talley and one great grandchild Violet Wren Carter. Also surviving is Debra (Lawrence) Mead who was like a daughter to Jereld and close friend to the family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Joyce and all his siblings.

Per his wishes cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.&nbsp;

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 30, 2024, at Lunning Chapel with Jeff and Jon co-officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at Lunning Chapel. A private family burial will be held in Spring Grove Cemetery.

A memorial has been established in his memory for Southeast Iowa Regional Home Health and Hospice.

Carol L. Parrott, 74, of Danville, died Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at her home surrounded by family.

Born Dec. 22, 1949, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Carl Walter and Mary Elizabeth Judd Wittstock. On April 28, 1967, she married Merle "Butch" Wallace Parrott. He preceded her in death on June 2, 2007.

Carol liked to crochet blankets for all the grandkids, attend auctions and most of all, she dearly loved spending time with her family.

Survivors include four sons, Adam Eugene (Karie) Parrott of Danville, Jeremiah Merle (Michelle) Parrott of Danville, Joseph Thomas Parrott of Danville, Daniel Carl (Andrea) Parrott of Burlington; three daughters, Brenda Kay Parrott of Danville, Shawn Christina (Aaron) Parrott-Phillips of Danville, Karen Elizabeth (Jason) Parrott-Gerdes of Kahoka, Mo.: daughter-in-law, Susan&nbsp; Parrott of Danville; 21 grandchildren: 32 great-grandchildren; and her brother, Bradley Carl Wittstock of Arbela, Mo.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, son, Matthew Parrott, two brothers, Lawrence and Dennis, and three sisters, Sharon, Beverly and Tammy.

A private graveside committal service for Carol will be held at Jaggar Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held Saturday, Aug. 17, 2024 at 2 p.m. at her son Adam's house, 11735 Jimtown Rd. Danville, IA 52623. All family and friends are welcome to attend the celebration of life.

Carol Parrott

Sivert Iversen, Jr., 91, of West Burlington, died Sunday, Aug. 11, 2024.

Born Dec. 30, 1932, in Santa Barbara, Calif., he was the son of Sivert and Lucille Ann Champagne Iversen. On Sept. 20, 1958, he married Elizabeth C. Wiemann in Burlington. She preceded him in death on June 28, 2000.

He worked at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant for 20 years and did maintenance work at SCC for 15 years.&nbsp;

He was a U.S. Navy Veteran, serving during the Korean War.&nbsp;

Sivert was a hard working person and worked multiple jobs throughout his life. He was a big people person and enjoyed talking with others. He was an avid sports fan and his favorite team was the St. Louis Cardinals. &nbsp;Sivert enjoyed reading when he had the opportunity.

Survivors include his son, Mark Iversen of Mount Pleasant; daughters, Carrie (Steve) Berry of Burlington, and &nbsp;Christine Iversen of West Burlington; granddaughter, Jenney of Burlington; brother, Raymond (Karen) Iversen of Macomb, Ill.; and sister, Dina (John) Poole of Burlington; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Marthe Piper.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, 2024, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.

The Graveside Committal Service for Mr. Iversen will be 2 p.m.&nbsp; Thursday, Aug. 15, 2024, at Sacred Heart Cemetery with Fr. Dominic Nguyen officiating.

Sivert Iversen Jr.

Carol Annette Grady, 66, died Aug., 15, 2024 at her home, after a courageous battle with melanoma.

Carol was born on Dec. 5, 1957, in Galesburg. She was the daughter of Arthur Clinton and Nancy Lou Condreay Briggs. Carol married Terry Grady on Nov. 23, 1996 in Galesburg, Ill. Together they celebrated 22 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on Feb. 9, 2020.

Carol is survived by her mother, Nancy Briggs of Burlington; five brothers, Arthur “Ed” Briggs of Galesburg, Ill., David Logsdon of Galesburg, Ill., Larry Briggs of Burleson, Tex., James Briggs of Venus, Tex., and Steven Briggs of Bono, AK; one sister, Donna (Stan) King of Williamsfield, IL; 10 children, Lorrie (Jude) Lensly of Galesburg, Ill., Dal Grady of Galesburg, IL, Monte (Kim) Grady of Monmouth, Ill., James (Airus) Briggs of Galesburg, Ill., Darren Grady of Knoxville, IL, Anna Payne of Enid, Okla., Alan Grady of Monmouth, Ill., Mary Briggs of Galesburg, Ill., Amber Grady of Monmouth, Ill. and Breanna (Chris) Grady of Burlington. She was blessed this last year with a bonus child whom she was able to give a mother to count on, Heather Zvirblis of Burlington, as well as Breanna's lifelong best friend, Sabrina (Josh) Brown of Burlington. She also leaves behind a blessing of a roommate, Cooper Miller of Burlington; 24 grandchildren; countless great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her father, her sisters Shirley and Becky, her brother, Clinton, and her life long best friend, Mary Anna Payne.&nbsp;

She had many passions and talents, working for Monmouth Pottery Company, Quality Cab, Ayerco, and Rail City before moving to Burlington and being blessed to retire with Terry. Carol was an avid Cubs fan, even going to the extent of watching the play by play on the computer when the game wasn't aired on local TV networks. She enjoyed many great friendships throughout her life. Carol enjoyed taking care of everyone, cooking large meals including cooking for the residents of Friedenheim for several years, where she was known as the taco lady, traveling when she was able, especially to Oklahoma (where she was known as Ms. Wilson), and spending time with her friends and family. She took great pride in helping to raise many children. Carol was the woman that anyone could go to and she would go to the extent of the earth to help them always putting everyone before herself.&nbsp;

Cremation has been entrusted to Prugh Crematory.

A celebration of Carol's life will be held at a later date in October.&nbsp;

She was blessed this last year with a bonus child whom she was able to give a mother to count on, Heather Zvirblis of Burlington, as well as Breanna's lifelong best friend, Sabrina (Josh) Brown of Burlington. She also leaves behind a blessing of a roommate, Cooper Miller of Burlington; 24 grandchildren; countless great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.&nbsp;She was preceded in death by her father, her sisters Shirley and Becky, her brother, Clinton, and her life long best friend, Mary Anna Payne.&nbsp;She had many passions and talents, working for Monmouth Pottery Company, Quality Cab, Ayerco, and Rail City before moving to Burlington and being blessed to retire with Terry. Carol was an avid Cubs fan, even going to the extent of watching the play by play on the computer when the game wasn't aired on local TV networks. She enjoyed many great friendships throughout her life. Carol enjoyed taking care of everyone, cooking large meals including cooking for the residents of Friedenheim for several years, where she was known as the taco lady, traveling when she was able, especially to Oklahoma (where she was known as Ms. Wilson), and spending time with her friends and family. She took great pride in helping to raise many children. Carol was the woman that anyone could go to and she would go to the extent of the earth to help them always putting everyone before herself.&nbsp;Cremation has been entrusted to Prugh Crematory.A celebration of Carol's life will be held at a later date in October.&nbsp;

Keith Lane Rich, 60, of New London, died Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2024.

Born Aug. 1, 1964, in Burlington, he was the son of Kenneth Lee Rich Jr. and Sandra Jean Rich Russell. In 1987, he married Jeanette Carol Whitten in Danville. They later divorced.&nbsp;

He was a graduate of New London High School.

Keith worked as a truck driver for over 30 years. He began his career with Gabeline Trucking and worked for a few other companies before retiring from McLaughlin Freight Services.

Keith was an avid Chicago Bears fan, loved riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle and working on cars, especially his '65 Plymouth Valiant. He enjoyed going mudding with his friends, fishing, and hunting.

Survivors include his father, Kenneth Lee Rich, Jr. of Mt. Union; mother, Sandra Jean (Larry) Russell of Burlington; two sons, Mark Allen Rich of New London and Matthew Lee Rich of Coyne Center, Ill.; two grandchildren, Peyton Lane Rich, and Beckham Rich; two sisters, Kendra Jean (Eric) Knottnerus of Riverside and Kori Lynn Rich of New London; partner, Patty Baas of Mount Pleasant; lifelong friend, Tom Davis; niece and nephews, Ridge Hobbs, Jade Hobbs, Bryce Smith, and Bryant Smith; and five great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his close friends, Joe Custer and Glenn Hite.

James "Jim" Sperfslage, 82, of Ames, formerly of Mediapolis, died Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2024, at the Green Hills Nursing Home after a 36 year battle with Parkinson's disease.

Born July 22, 1942, in Burlington, he was the son of Henry and Alice E. Schuler Sperfslage. On Aug. 29, 1973, he married Joanne E. Breder in Kinshasa, Zaire in Africa.&nbsp;

He graduated from Mediapolis High School in 1960. Burlington Junior College class of 1963 and University of Iowa class of 1967. Jim proudly served his country in the Army National Guard.&nbsp;

Jim worked as Production Manager at Goodyear Tire for 30 years. 28 of those 30 years were spent in factories in Germany, Zaire, Morocco, Malaysia and Thailand.

Jim loved muscle cars and listening to country western music. He was known for his big parties and loved planning them for any and all occasions. Jim had a huge heart and never forgot where he came from. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends from around the world.

Survivors include his wife, Joanne E. Sperfslage of Ames; son, Kurt (Emily) Sperfslage of Ames; daughter, Kristine (Corbin) Stone of Clive, IA; and four grandchildren, Payton and Riley Sperfslage and Eleanor and Truman Stone.

Family will receive friends from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Sunday, August 18, 2024, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.

Rosemary worked as a school cook, babysat school teacher’s kids, and worked at the grocery store, where she met Robert. Rosemary was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Wapello and a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary. Rosemary enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, sewing, gardening, and wood staining.

Rosemary will be deeply missed by her daughters, Penelope Oberly of Mediapolis, Polly (Terry) Griffin of Burlington; and Pamela Schwob of Wapello; granddaughter, Heather Bartlett of Burlington; and great-granddaughter, Savannah Bartlett of Burlington.

Rosemary was preceded in death by her parents; her stepmother, Helen Grooms; her step-father, Arthur Kuntz; brother, Cody Grooms; and son-in-law, Lloyd Oberly.

Teresa Lynn Davis, born on Jan. 28, 1969, passed away peacefully in her home on Aug. 9, 2024, surrounded by her family. She was 55 years old.

Teresa was a true beacon of light in the lives of everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. She had an extraordinary gift for connecting with people, and to her, there was never a stranger—just a friend she hadn’t met yet. Her boundless compassion and genuine love for helping others left a lasting impact on countless lives.

Teresa found her greatest joy in the simple yet profound moments of life, especially those spent with her cherished family. Whether it was sharing laughter at a family gathering or enjoying the timeless tunes of 80’s music, she knew how to make every moment memorable. Her presence was a source of comfort and happiness, and her love will continue to echo in the hearts of those she touched.

She is lovingly remembered by her children, Justin Davis and Sydney Davis of West Burlington, Iowa, who were the pride and joy of her life; her parents, Ellen and Alan Hardy of New London, Iowa; her sisters Staci Archibald Myers of Burlington, Iowa, and Tiffany Lutz of Houston, Texas. Teresa is also survived by her partner, Gary Hoeppner.

Betty L. Johnson, 94, of Burlington, died Monday, Aug. 12, 2024 at her home.&nbsp; Born March 30, 1930, in Ottumwa, she was the daughter of Winter Raymond and Edna Noland Lippert. On Sept. 15, 1950, she married Frank Johnson. She was a graduate of Unionville High School.&nbsp; Betty was a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service for over 20 years.&nbsp; She was a member of West Avenue Church for most of her life. Betty loved her family and spent a great deal of time caring for them, including not beginning her career until her children were raised. She especially loved attending her children's and grandchildren's activities. She and Frank had a hobby farm which she enjoyed tending as well.&nbsp; Survivors include her husband of 73 years, Frank Johnson; three sons, Pastor Ron (Cindy) Johnson of Fort Myers, Fla., Tim (Suzie) Johnson of Burlington, and John (Bethanie) Johnson of Columbia, S.C.; three daughters, Becky (Kevin) Scheid of Andover, MN, Bonnie (Bob) Muzio of Montague, Mich., and Chris (Mike) Werner of Burlington; 23 grandchildren: Jesse Scheid, Christy Scheid, Kathryn Hills, Amy Scerbo, Stephen Johnson, Ashleigh Andrade, Emily Valentine, Brooke Cudney, Bethann Muzio, Dustin Werner, TJ Werner, Kyle Werner, Brett Werner, John Werner, Abigail Goble, Michaela Fortner, Lydia Johnson, and Seth Johnson; 34 great-grandchildren; and sister, Judy Hinesley of Burlington. Ronald Lee Smelser, 66, Danville, died Monday, Aug. 12, 2024.&nbsp;Ron was born Nov. 20, 1957, son to William “Billy” &amp; Virginia Smelser. Ron was raised by Harold D &amp; his mother Virginia Savage after his father died when he was only 18 months old.&nbsp;

Ron graduated from Fairfield high school and later married Darla Carrico Aug.&nbsp; 22, 1981. She died July 25, 1994. They together had a son, William Brian, who died at birth.

Ron worked for years in Fairfield at a local car wash, later Midwest Biscuit in West Burlington, Catfish Bend Casino and then retired after 15 plus years delivering the Hawkeye newspaper in his town of Danville. In his free time, Ron enjoyed fishing.

Ron is survived by a brother Harold "Dwane" Savage his wife Pat, and a sister Julia Peterson.

Ron's mother, father, wife, son, sister, brother-in-law and niece proceeded him in death.&nbsp;

Renelda M. Pieper,&nbsp;97, of the Kensington in Fort Madison, formerly of Houghton, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2024 at the Kensington.

She was born on Sept. 25, 1926 in West Point, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Emma Kuhljuergen Holtkamp. On October 4, 1952, she married James Pieper at St. James Catholic Church in St. Paul, he preceded her in death on Dec. 18, 2000.

She is survived by four sons: David Pieper of Donnellson, Ken (Donna) Pieper of Donnellson, Frank (Rhonda) Pieper of Donnellson, and Jay (Rhonda) Pieper of Ely; two daughters: Elaine (Mark) Hammer of Baxter, and Rita (Alan) Beers of Ainsworth; nine grandchildren: Ryan (Rebecca) Pieper, Elizabeth (Bobby) Kennedy, Sarah (Regan) Lawson, Renee (Jed) Marshall, Brent (Darcey) Pieper, Scott (Erin) Pieper, Katherine Pieper, Ben Pieper, and Tyler Beers; six great grandchildren: Leelah Lawson, Isabelle and Liam Marshall, Case, Callie, and Penelope Pieper; and one sister-in-law Marcella Holtkamp. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Jim; son Donald; four brothers: Alex, Dennis, Adrian, and Francis Holtkamp; two sisters: Sr. Annina and Sr. Annelda Holtkamp; daughter-in-law Rosalie Pieper; and one grandson Matthew Pieper.

Renelda was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and St. John’s Altar and Rosary.

A visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 12, 2024, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Houghton, where the family will receive friends from 5&nbsp; to 6:30 p.m. with a Christian wake service following at 6:30 p.m.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2024, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Houghton with Father Dan Dorau as celebrant.

Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery in Houghton, Iowa. Memorials have been established in her memory for St. John’s Catholic Church.

Renelda was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and St. John’s Altar and Rosary. A visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 12, 2024, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Houghton, where the family will receive friends from 5&nbsp; to 6:30 p.m. with a Christian wake service following at 6:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2024, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Houghton with Father Dan Dorau as celebrant. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery in Houghton, Iowa. Memorials have been established in her memory for St. John’s Catholic Church. Schmitz Funeral Home of West Point is assisting the family with arrangements.&nbsp;

Atlas Michael Coey, five months, of West Burlington, died Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2024 at his home.

Born, Feb. 19, 2024 in West Burlington, he was the son of Kathleen Carol Coey and Austin Michael Fenton.

Atlas was a very happy boy and loved his toys. His favorite thing was watching people giggle at him.&nbsp; He loved his rattles and his tiger.&nbsp; Atlas loved giggling and smiling at everyone.&nbsp; He loved snuggling, especially with his mommy.

Survivors include his mother and father; grandparents Nathan and Angie Dunham (Coey) of West Burlington, Cody Coey of Morning Sun, Tara Young of Morning Sun and Jonathan Fenton of Burlington; great grandparents, great-great grandparents and many aunts and uncles including Aunt Maddison Coey.

The service for Atlas will be 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16, 2024, at Lunning Chapel with Pastor Mick Hall officiating.&nbsp; The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until the time of service.

Mark Louis Fedler, 73, of Danville, died Saturday, Aug. 10, 2024, at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born in Fort Madison on Oct. 26, 1950 to Edmund G. and Delores Elizabeth Spiekermeier Fedler.&nbsp;&nbsp;On August 2, 1986, he married Barbara Kay Crouch at First Baptist Church in Danville.

Mark joined the Navy Feb. 3, 1970 in Des Moines, where he was sent to boot camp in San Diego.&nbsp;&nbsp;He went to Steward School, served two years at Guantanamo Bay, then two years aboard an aircraft carrier where he was the Steward’s Cook.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was discharged Feb. 3, 1974.&nbsp;&nbsp;After high school, he worked at Freuhauf in Fort Madison for six months before enlisting in the service, then returned to Freuhauf after serving his country, then quit to go into law enforcement.&nbsp;&nbsp;He served the towns of Centerville, Columbus Junction, Middletown, and retired as the police chief of Danville after twenty-seven years and nine months of service.&nbsp;&nbsp;During this time, he was also a cook at Jack Hamilton’s Supper Club.&nbsp;&nbsp;After retiring he drove a bus for the Danville school district and also worked in their kitchen, then drove a bus for the New London school district for four years.&nbsp;&nbsp;

According to his wishes, his body has been cremated and a celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, 2024, at Elliott Chapel, New London.&nbsp;&nbsp;Pastor Monte Knudson will officiate.&nbsp;&nbsp;The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.&nbsp;&nbsp;A memorial has been established.&nbsp;

Born October 1, 1947, in Detroit, Mich., she was the daughter of Clyde Crowley and Josephine Lucy Crivello. She was married to Jim Bell Jr. for 17 years. They later divorced. On Nov. 20, 2015, she married Edward Charles Johnson.&nbsp;

Susan worked as an assembler for Champion Spark Plug for over 30 years.&nbsp;

She was a proud U.S. Air Force Veteran, serving from May 13, 1966 until July 19, 1968.

Susan truly cared about people. She was strong of character and had an excellent work ethic.&nbsp; She enjoyed talking to people about religion, working in her garden, going on drives in the country to observe wildlife, boating, and trips to the Dairy Queen.

Survivors include her spouse, Ed Johnson of Burlington; one son, Elliott (Jami) Bell of Orlando, Fla.; three daughters, Jennifer Bell-Shride of Burlington, Lisa DeJaynes of Carman, Ill., and Shannon (Chris) Hamilton of Missoula, Mont.;&nbsp; 11 grandchildren, Samantha (Aaron) Magee, Lacey (Cody) Thacker, Nathan DeJaynes, Tristan (Ellen) Sly, Katelyn Sly, Ashton Sly, Lane Hamilton, Cole Hamilton, Kirsten Shride, Blayne Bell, and Lexi Bell; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Fred Johnson, and Bob Johnson; and three sisters, Mary (Kurt) Wieger, Karen Johnson, and Shirley (Faron) Springer.

She was preceded in death by her parents and son-in-law, Sam DeJaynes.&nbsp;
