Thomas&nbsp;George&nbsp;“Tom” Koehler, 77,&nbsp;of Burlington, died Monday, April 24, 2023, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics&nbsp;after a fierce battle with stage 4 lung cancer which had metastasized to his brain in multiple places by the time it was discovered.&nbsp;Over the past 5 ½ weeks, he endured two neurosurgeries and recovery at OSF St Francis in Peoria, Ill., a week of acute rehabilitation in Coralville, and two more weeks&nbsp;oscillating between critical and stable conditions&nbsp;at UIHC.

Born April 30, 1945 in Burlington, he was the son of George and Irma Winegard Koehler. Tom graduated from Burlington High School in 1963. &nbsp;He served his country in the United States Army as a drill Sargent during Vietnam. He was of the Catholic faith.

Tom was a Manufacturing Engineer. &nbsp;He worked&nbsp;at&nbsp;Winegard&nbsp;Company&nbsp;for&nbsp;decades,&nbsp;retiring in 2001. &nbsp;During retirement he drove cars for local car dealerships&nbsp;and cultivated many friendships along the way.&nbsp;He enjoyed rebuilding old cars, refurbishing&nbsp;trailers,&nbsp;tractors and riding lawn mowers,&nbsp;and engineering whatever he could first envision in his mind.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was always building things and could fix anything. &nbsp;One of his biggest passions was 1969 Camaros. Another lifelong passion was Boy Scouts of America, helping lead multiple Eagle Scouts to BSA’s most prestigious honor. Tom always enjoyed a good cup of coffee with friends&nbsp;and family!

Tom was a fighter to the end, and his cancer and respiratory issues became the one thing he could not actually fix. &nbsp;His survivors include two daughters Michele Lewis of Iowa City and Crystal Koehler of Ankeny; grandchildren Anakin Worthington, Teddy Worthington, and Tanner Cupps; and lots of close friends who were considered family, and his dog, Maggie Mae.

He was preceded in death by his parents and son Michael Koehler.

The funeral service for Tom will be 11 a.m. Thursday, April 27 at Lunning Chapel with&nbsp;Deacon Gary Johnson&nbsp;officiating.&nbsp;Military Rites will be performed by the Des Moines County Area Veterans Honor Guard.&nbsp;Interment will&nbsp;be&nbsp;in Aspen Grove Cemetery&nbsp;at a private service at a later date. &nbsp;The family will receive friends on Thursday from 9 a.m. until the time of service.

A Memorial has been established for the Des Moines County Humane Society, from where he rescued his beloved Maggie.

According to his wishes, cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.

Gregory Alan Oriano, 53, of Burlington, died Friday, April 21, 2023, at his home.

Born July 10, 1969, in Burlington, he was the son of Richard Phillips and Martha Elaine Ammer Oriano.&nbsp;

He was a Burlington High School graduate.

Greg enjoyed working at McDonald's and made many friends until his retirement after 30 years.&nbsp;

Greg enjoyed listening to country music and had hundreds of CDs. He enjoyed watching baseball, from the Major League to the Burlington Bees. He also had a baseball card collection and was a fan of WWE Wrestling. Greg was very passionate about Boy Scouts. He received his Eagle Scout and loved going to Camp Eastman every summer. He continued his service with the Boy Scouts by helping Cub Scouts. He will be remembered for being a friend to everyone.

Survivors include his sister, Cindy (Steve) Noack of Iowa City; nephews, Michael (Brooke) Noack, and William Noack; niece, Claire Noack; great-nephew, Samuel Noack; aunts, Ann (Ken) Stutts of Grants Pass, Ore., Mary Calder of Greenville, N.C., and Wandalea Ammer; and numerous cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and uncles, Glen (Shirley) Ammer, Melvin Ammer and Hugh (Sarah) Oriano.

Charles Melvin Landstrom Jr., 95, of Burlington, died Friday, April 21, 2023, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born April 28, 1927, in Berwyn, Ill., he was the son of Charles Melvin and Caroline Schneider Landstrom. On Oct. 3, 1953, he married Martha Ann Nesius in Burlington. She died on June 18, 2019.

He was a 1949 graduate of Lyons Township High School.&nbsp;

He was a U.S. Navy Veteran, serving during the World War II from March 20, 1945 until March 5, 1948.

Charles was a letter carrier for 31 years and retired in June of 1990.

He was a member of Zion United Church of Christ, Moose #579, &nbsp;N.A.L.C. #222 and was a regular blood donor. &nbsp;He loved being outdoors; from going on walks, fishing, gardening, to feeding and watching the birds. &nbsp;He was a big baseball fan and enjoyed the Burlington Bees, St. Louis Cardinals, Jay Buckley Baseball Tours. Charles was a supporter of the local animal shelter, and adopted many wonderful cats over the years.&nbsp;

Survivors include one son, Brian Charles (Sheri) Landstrom of Burlington; two daughters, Barbara Ann (Larry) Meth of Burlington, and Debra Sue (Kirk) Van Scoy of Burlington; six grandchildren, Todd, Mitch, Kelly, Karen, Courtney, and Briana; seven great-grandchildren, twins, Austin and Ethan, Isaiah, Olivia, Mason, Jase, Emma, Halley and Maren.&nbsp;

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Donald Landstrom and sister, Carol Marie Grubb.

Visitation will be from noon until 7 p.m. with the family to receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 25, 2023 at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.

Russell Eugene Schroeder, 78, of Burlington, died Tuesday, April 18, 2023, at his home.

Born on Christmas Day, Dec. 25, 1944 in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, he was the son of George Washington and Ruth Louise Huppenberger Schroeder.

He served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War.

He married Patsy Ellen Adams on Oct. 2, 1967 in Mount Pleasant. He was a revenue officer for the IRS for 29 ½ years until his retirement.

Russell enjoyed trips to neighborhood towns, dining out, maintaining and working in the yard, time with family, meeting new people and reminiscing about his military days and his job with the IRS. He always had a soft spot for animals and really enjoyed the Burlington First Assembly of God West of 50’s Activities.

He is survived by his wife, Patsy Schroeder of Burlington; son, Eric (Julie) Schroeder of Burlington and daughter, Sonya Schroeder of Greensboro, N.C. and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son Paul Schroeder, brother Roger Schroeder and sister Sandra Hart.

The memorial visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Saturday, April 22 in the Fellowship Hall at Burlington First Assembly of God with a luncheon to follow.

A private family interment will be held in Forest Home Cemetery, Mount Pleasant.

David M. Welcher, 68, of Gladstone, Ill., died Thursday, April 20, 2023 at his home.

Born Dec. 6, 1954 in Mt. Pleasant, he was the son of Eugene and ElvaLee Jones Welcher.

David served his country in the United States Army.

He was a truck driver for over 30 years, most recently working for Newcomb Trucking Company of Muscatine. David rode motorcycles with his son and he enjoyed spending time with his granddaughters.

Survivors include one son Tyler (Madeleine) Welcher of Burlington; one daughter Tasha Welcher of Port Orange, Fla.; two brothers Terry “Herman” Welcher and Danny “Boone” Welcher.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Tommy “Doc” Welcher.

Per David’s wishes, cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Funeral Chapel. There will be no services at this time.

Irma M. Vance died peacefully at her home in Sun City, Ariz. on April 12, 2023.&nbsp;

Born March 17, 1929, in Marshalltown, she was the daughter of J. Earl and Virdie B. Marken Kneeland.&nbsp; On May 7, 1950, she married Randall S. Vance of Mt. Pleasant.&nbsp; They were married in Marshalltown.&nbsp; He preceded her in death on August 12, 2008.

They lived in Marshalltown until March of 1966, when they moved to Burlington.&nbsp;

Mrs. Vance graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1947.&nbsp;

While in Marshalltown, she worked at Fidelity Savings Bank and at Younkers. After moving to Burlington, she worked as clerk in the Des Moines County Treasurer’s Office for several years, and then was elected to serve as a member of the Des Moines County Board of Supervisors in 1980.&nbsp; She served until 1985 and is the only female member to serve on that Board to this date.&nbsp; She was a member of First United Methodist Church Ruth Circle.&nbsp; She served on the Administrative Board of that Church and was a member of the choir and UMW.&nbsp; She was a member and past president of Stars and Stripes Chapter NSDAR and PEO Chapter P.&nbsp; She enjoyed reading, playing bridge and other card games, and traveling.&nbsp; She and her husband wintered in Florida, and then in Arizona for many years.&nbsp; She was interested in family history and genealogy.&nbsp;

Survivors include two sons, Michael C. Vance (Bonnie) of Mt. Pleasant, and Russell W. Vance (Kim) of Glendale, Ariz., and one daughter, Karen J. Ratterman (Dale) of Epworth, six grandchildren, Thomas (Morgan) Vance, Joseph Ratterman, Patrick (Karen) Vance, Derek Vance, Elizabeth Ratterman,&nbsp; Danielle (Eric) Gagnier two step grandchildren Marc (Jessica) Steinberg and Amy (Adam) Early&nbsp; and five great-grandchildren, Nathaniel, Kieran, Adrian, Asher, and Sailor and one step great granddaughter Marlow, and many nieces and nephews.

Irma M. Vance

Gary Gene Baker, 66 of Burlington, died Thursday, April 13, 2023, at his home.

Born Aug. 15, 1956, in Burlington, he was the son of Calvin “Jack” and Doris Smith Baker.

Gary graduated from Burlington High School. He worked for the City of Burlington Sanitation Department. Gary enjoyed fishing and camping. He loved to be outdoors.

Survivors include one son Gary Gene (Baker Jr.) Rayburn of Burlington; one daughter Patricia Baker (Arnold) of West Burlington; one brother Jim Baker of Burlington.

Margaleen Ann “Marge” Marshall died Friday, April 14, 2023.

She was born on Nov. 23, 1927, to Earl and Juanita Redlinger in Washington, Iowa. She was the oldest of five siblings. Dean was smitten with her at the State Theatre in Washington where she worked. Romance ensued followed by their marriage on July 29, 1950. They raised three children together in Burlington where they lived until 2013.

Marge worked as a legal secretary for the Dailey Law Firm for many years. In retirement, she and Dean were avid followers of their grandchildren’s athletic and scholastic endeavors. Despite being a collector of anything cardinal, Marge was a big Cubs and Hawkeye fan. In 2013 they moved to the Iowa City area.

Marge is survived by her son, Gregory Marshall, daughters Susan (Randy) Pflum and Julie (David) Lee, five grandchildren, Tyler, Devin and Brian Pflum, Anna Lee (Jarod) Morrissette, and Trevor Lee, and two great-grandchildren, Callahan and Palmer Morrissette. She is also survived by her sister Mary Louise Ramseyer and many nephews and nieces.

The Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in West Burlington at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 20, with visitation to precede, commencing at 9:30 a.m. Father James Flattery will be the Celebrant. Internment will be at Columbus City Cemetery.

Memorials have been established for St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Hope Haven.

Carl M. Foster, 97, of West Point, died Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at Prairie Ridge Care Center in Mediapolis.  He was born on the family farm in Lee County on March 1, 1926, to Clyde Newton and Elbertine Maude Hampton Foster.

He was a graduate of New London High School.  He farmed the family farm where he lived all but three years of his life and was a Union Electrician for fifty-seven years. Carl was a member of Masonic Lodge AF &amp; AM #28 and IBEW Local 13.  He enjoyed woodworking, owned and operated Skeetland, and loved trapshooting since childhood.

Survivors include two sons Clinton Daniel (Julie) and Lisle Scott both of Burlington; daughter Laura (David) Bawidamann of Burnsville, MN; two grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.  Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Clifford, sister Ruby Neuweg, grandson J.D. Foster, and granddaughter Jessica Wiegard.

Masonic services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 17, 2023, at Elliott Chapel, New London.  Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. with the family greeting friends from 1 until the time of the service.  Private burial will be held at Burge Cemetery, rural New London.  A memorial has been established for Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice. Jeff Coursey, 63, of Burlington, died Thursday, April 13, 2023, at his home in Burlington surrounded by family.

Born Feb. 17, 1960, in Burlington, he was the son of Richard and Betty Ann Burnette Coursey. On March 2, 2023, he married Jennifer Springsteen, whom he had been with for 25 years.&nbsp;

He was a graduate of Burlington Community High School 1979.

Jeff worked for Flint Cliffs Manufacturing as a production worker for 24 years.

Jeff loved going to the farm, having bonfires, and fishing with his nephews. He enjoyed making fireplaces and loved Lynyrd Skynyrd, was a Minnesota Vikings fan and a NASCAR fan until Dale Earnhardt Sr. passed away. Jeff enjoyed spending time with his friends, especially at Farney's.

Survivors include his wife, Jennifer Coursey of Burlington; daughter, Edie L. Warth of Burlington: nine grandchildren; father, Richard Coursey of Fort Madison; two brothers, Steve (Brenda) Coursey of Monmouth, Ill., and Tim Coursey of Burlington; sister, Jolinda Coursey of Fort Madison; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother and brother, Patrick Coursey, and two daughters Emily Pinkston and Melanie Warth.

A elebration of life will be held at a later date.

Lora Ann Pitts, 56, of Burlington died Monday, April 10, 2023, at her home.

Born May 9, 1966, in Keokuk, she was the daughter of Gary Dean and Dorothy Louise Billingsley Shanstrom.

Lora graduated from Ft. Madison High School. On Dec. 29, 1988, she married Michael Pitts at the Des Moines County Court House.

Lora worked at Beckman’s Dry Cleaners. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles in her spare time and loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Michael of Burlington; one daughter Amber Marie Pitts and one son Aaron Michael Pitts, both of Burlington; three grandchildren Anjul, Alec, and Payton; two brothers Mark (Julie) Shanstrom of West Point, and Todd (Tanya) Shanstrom of Burlington; one sister Dawn Worley of Wapello; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

The funeral service for Lora will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 19 at Lunning Chapel. Interment will be in Prairie Grove Cemetery rural West Burlington. Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service.

Michael "Mike" F. Fullenkamp Sr., 76, of Burlington, died Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at the Monmouth Nursing Home in Monmouth, Ill.

Born February 16, 1947, in Kansas City, Mo., he was the son of Francis D. and Lola D. Stewart Fullenkamp. On Sept. 10, 1969, he married Paula Annette Tomey in Biggsville, Ill. They later divorced.&nbsp;

Michael retired from the United States Navy in 1991. He then worked as a carpenter for Carl A. Nelson.

He was a U.S. Marines veteran, serving during the Vietnam War from April 4, 1967, until Feb. 4, 1971. He then enlisted with the U.S. Navy and served for 16 additional years.

Mike was a member of Divine Mercy Parish and a lifetime member of the V.F.W. He enjoyed woodworking, building furniture, fishing, and going to auctions and flea markets. He loved watching sports, especially drag racing, and watching westerns.

Survivors include his daughter, Annette Doiron of Montgomery, Ala.; granddaughter, Kayla (Johnathan) Doiron-Payne of Maplesville, Ala.; grandson, Zachary (Alyssa) Doiron of Phenix City, Ala.; 5 great-grandchildren, Glenn Payne, Kaylee Payne, Landon Hull, Bray Shores, and &nbsp;Raena Doiron; two sisters, Joan Wunnenberg of California, and Geraldine Webb of Ft. Madison.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Michael Fullenkamp Jr.; brother, James Fullenkamp; and sister, Janice Hagerla.

Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday, April 15, 2023, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.

Born April 2, 1954 in Quincy, Ill., she was the daughter of John Lyle and Zelma Corrine Cory Wagner.

She was married to Edward Gene Stephenson for 35 years before they divorced.

Cynthia was a homemaker. Over the years she worked for Godfather’s Pizza, for a mail order company and she hunted nightcrawlers.

Survivors include her two sons Monty Barnes of Oquawka, Ill. and Steve Barnes of Peoria, Ill.; two sisters Cheryl Seager and Cathy Dekeyrel, both of Burlington.

Cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Fritz Merritt, 79, of Burlington, died Tuesday, April 11, 2023, in Burlington.

Born June 19, 1943, in Douglas, Ga., he was the son of Clayton Merritt and Myrtice Williams. In 1968, he married Pamela K. Ives in Oquawka, Ill. They later divorced.&nbsp;

Fritz worked as a mechanic and retired after many years from Sinclair Tractor outside of Mediapolis.

Survivors include son, Jeffrey (Sarah) Merritt of Goldsboro, N.C.; friend, Pamela K. Merritt of Burlington;&nbsp; step-sons, David (Rhonda) Wynn of Burlington, and William M. Wynn of Burlington; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Glen Merritt. Connie McNeese, Phylis Burk,&nbsp; Ladonna Foshee, and Louis Brown.

He was preceded in death by his parents, step-son Jimmy Wynn, brother Earl Merritt, and sister Jean.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

Burial will be held in St. Mary's Cemetery at a later date.

Christy Lynn Anderson, 30, of Burlington, died Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born Sept. 6, 1992, in Buffalo, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Christopher Mauro and Cindy and David Anderson.&nbsp;

She worked for Wilson Rentals cleaning apartments and previously at Shokai Sushi.

She enjoyed spending time with her friends and hanging out on the river. She loved all the Buffalo, N.Y. sports teams and going to Bee's games with her father.&nbsp;

Survivors include her mother and father, Cindy and David Anderson of Burlington; maternal Grandmother, Patricia Duszynski of Burlington; paternal grandparents, Helen Anderson of West Seneca, N.Y. and Nicholas Mauro of Lancaster, N.Y.; her furbabies, Oreo and Zoey; two aunts, Shelly Duszynski of Salem, Ore. and Elizabeth (Katie Miller) Mauro of Hamburg, N.Y.; two uncles, William G. Anderson, Jr. of West Seneca, N.Y. and Mark (Debra) Duszynski of Texas; and numerous cousins.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Frederick Paul Duszynski, paternal grandmother, Donna Mauro, and paternal grandfather and step-grandmother, William G. and Myrna Anderson.&nbsp;

Christy Lynn Anderson

Eunice Faye Kemp, 78, of Sperry, died Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born July 15, 1944, in Rutherford, Tenn., she was the daughter of William and Anna Lou Fowler Johnstone. She married Don Kemp on Aug. 2, 1969 in Lomax, Ill.

Faye worked for Doran and Ward Printing for 32 years.

She enjoyed puzzles, reading, watching Iowa Hawkeyes Basketball, motorcycle rides, coffee and lunches with her girls, and trips to Tennessee. Her family and her dog “Sammy” were her life.

Survivors include her husband Don Kemp of Sperry; four children, Mark (Lori) Lippert of Ottawa, Ill., Lisa (Mike) Doty of Kahoka, Mo., Tracy Kemp of Burlington, and Katherine (Matthew) Brakeville of Burlington; ten grandchildren, Callista Lippert, Tara Inmarong, Jared Doty, Justin Doty, Taylor Hartman, Taylor Brakeville, Conner Brakeville, Christopher Fenton, Zachary Fenton, and Kirsten Fenton; five great-grandchildren, Dathan Porter, Ani Porter, Alex Garncarz, Aria Fenton and Beckett Hartman; one brother, Mike (Karen) Johnstone of Middletown and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Terry Johnstone and sister Barbara Wicker.

Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday, April 14 at Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends. Graveside funeral services will follow the visitation at Carman Cemetery, Carman, Ill.

 </figure>Eunice Faye Kemp, 78, of Sperry, died Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.Born July 15, 1944, in Rutherford, Tenn., she was the daughter of William and Anna Lou Fowler Johnstone. She married Don Kemp on Aug. 2, 1969 in Lomax, Ill.Faye worked for Doran and Ward Printing for 32 years.She enjoyed puzzles, reading, watching Iowa Hawkeyes Basketball, motorcycle rides, coffee and lunches with her girls, and trips to Tennessee. Her family and her dog “Sammy” were her life.Survivors include her husband Don Kemp of Sperry; four children, Mark (Lori) Lippert of Ottawa, Ill., Lisa (Mike) Doty of Kahoka, Mo., Tracy Kemp of Burlington, and Katherine (Matthew) Brakeville of Burlington; ten grandchildren, Callista Lippert, Tara Inmarong, Jared Doty, Justin Doty, Taylor Hartman, Taylor Brakeville, Conner Brakeville, Christopher Fenton, Zachary Fenton, and Kirsten Fenton; five great-grandchildren, Dathan Porter, Ani Porter, Alex Garncarz, Aria Fenton and Beckett Hartman; one brother, Mike (Karen) Johnstone of Middletown and nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Terry Johnstone and sister Barbara Wicker.Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday, April 14 at Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends. Marjorie &nbsp;Mae "Marj" Helt, 69, of Mt. Pleasant, died Monday, April 10, 2023, at Savannah Heights, Mt. Pleasant.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was born Dec. 22, 1953, in Burlington to George and Fern Oetken Helt.&nbsp;&nbsp;She attended school in New London for one year and at a special education program at Hillsboro, before later attending Hope Haven in Burlington.

She lived with her parents in New London until 1986 when she moved to Hope Haven where she also worked.&nbsp;&nbsp;In 1994 she moved to Mt. Pleasant and worked at Hon Industries and later at Heatilator.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was a resident of New London Specialty Care and the last four years at Savannah Heights.&nbsp;&nbsp;

She was a member of the New London United Methodist Church.&nbsp;&nbsp;She traveled extensively to Europe, Canada, and most of the fifty states.&nbsp;&nbsp;She enjoyed swimming, games, puzzles, and traveling.

Marj is survived by her brother Kenneth (Barbara) Helt of New London and niece Laura Helt of Chandler, Ariz.&nbsp;&nbsp;Her parents preceded her in death.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, April 14, 2023, at Elliott Chapel, New London, with Rev. John Helt and Pastor Kathleen Moore officiating.&nbsp;&nbsp;Burial will be held at Aspen Grove Cemetery, Burlington.&nbsp;&nbsp;Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. with the family greeting friends from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

Susan Elizabeth Swank, 58, of West Burlington, died Thursday, April 6, 2023, at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born Jan. 18, 1965, in rural Keosauqua, on the family farm, she was the daughter of James and Sharon Weller Smith. She married Randall Swank on Aug. 31, 1989.

Susan worked for J.I. Case until her disability forced her to retire. Prior to that, she worked for Lamont Ltd.

She was a strong-willed woman who spoke her mind. She was a very outgoing and loving person. She was a friend to all; a “grandma” to all and queen of the neighborhood. She enjoyed playing bingo, going to the casino, spending time with her family, and spoiling her grandkids.

She is survived by her husband Randall Swank of West Burlington; five children, Dustin (Sandra) Miller of Revere, Mo., Amanda (David) Brombaugh of Burlington, Brandon Swank of West Burlington, Marcus Miller of Wyoming, and Angie Dietrick; eleven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; siblings, Ernest (Linda) Miller of Farmington, Cheryl Hollenbeck of Burlington, Rodney (Sandra) Miller of Jacksonville, North Carolina, Donald (Billie) Miller of West Burlington, Sandra Miller of West Burlington and Amy Miller of West Burlington; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Dennis Miller, sister Pamela Kay Canty, and nephew Sgt. John Miller.

Susan Elizabeth Swank

Robert L. “Bob” Martin, 83, of Burlington, died Friday, April 7, 2023, at the Klein Center in West Burlington.

Born Jan. 16, 1940, in Burlington, he was the son of Farrell and Dorothy Carlson Martin.

He graduated from Burlington High School (Class of 1958) and Parsons College, where he was an outstanding four-sport high school athlete and a standout college football player.

He married Connie E. Raid on Jan. 30, 1961. She died July 21, 2022.

After college Bob worked as a teacher and track and football coach for Wapello High School for two years. He then began his career with Proctor and Gamble where he worked for 35 years. After retirement, Bob returned to teaching at Wapello High School and was also an assistant girls' basketball coach. In addition, he coached high school volleyball and middle school softball for West Burlington.

Bob loved coaching little league baseball and softball and the Iowa Games volleyball teams. He loved all sports and especially enjoyed watching his daughter’s and granddaughters’ high school and college softball careers and his grandson’s trap shooting competitions.

He enjoyed fishing and taking annual trips to Minnesota and Canada with family, hunting, spending time on the family farms, his various coffee groups, wintering in Florida, and golfing with his friends. He loved dogs, especially golden retrievers, and was fondly known as a “dog whisperer”.

He is survived by his three children, Cherie (Hal) Reid of Burlington, Steve (Teresa) Martin of Shell Rock, and Tricia (Randy) Bolton of Osceola; four grandchildren, Stacy Martin, Karly Stoffregen, Christopher Martin, and Emma Bolton; three great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Connie, brother Leroy Martin, granddaughter Ally Bolton and grandson Kaleb Lehman.

The memorial funeral service for Mr. Martin will be 11 a.m. Saturday, April 15 at Lunning Chapel. The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. The Rev. Dean Graber will officiate. Inurnment will be held in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

Memorials have been established for Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice and The Rally for Reid Foundation.

Ivan Kenneth “Ken” Kelly Jr., 70, of Burlington, died Friday, April 7, 2023, at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born March 15, 1953, in Fort Madison, he was the son of Ivan Sr. and Sallie B. Shumaker Kelly. He married Teresa Hamilton on July 5, 1997.

Ken worked for Champion Spark Plug for over 20 years until his retirement in 2018.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, being outdoors, riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, and tinkering in his garage. His grandchildren were his life and he loved his time spent with them.

Survivors include his wife Teresa Kelly of Burlington; two sons, Michael J. (Mindy) Shelledy of Winfield, and Jeff (Tina) Shelledy of New London; six grandchildren, Taylor (Christopher) Stone of Mt. Pleasant, Asia Shelledy of Moravia, Zachary Shelledy of Winfield, Zander Shelledy of Winfield and Bailey Shelledy and Mason Shelledy both of New London; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter Peyton and sister Carolyn Johnson.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 12 at Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends. Inurnment will be held at a later date in Montrose.

According to his wishes, cremation has been entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.

Rebecca Lynn Harvey, 72, of Middletown, died Friday, April 7, 2023, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born Oct. 22, 1950, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Harry and Fern Brown Springsteen. She married Robert Harvey. He died Oct. 5, 2018.

Rebecca Lynn Harvey, 72, of Middletown, died Friday, April 7, 2023, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.Born Oct. 22, 1950, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Harry and Fern Brown Springsteen. She married Robert Harvey. He died Oct. 5, 2018.Rebecca was a homemaker and a member of Oakville Methodist Church. She loved to read and knit and enjoyed spending time outdoors.Survivors include her four sons; Travis Harvey of Middletown, Tyson Harvey of Mediapolis, Tery Bozarth of Wisconsin, and Tod Bozarth of Minnesota; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brother, Chet Springsteen; two sisters, Sherry Hartz, and Sandy Hoambrecker; nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents, husband two brothers, and one sister.According to her wishes, there will be no funeral services. Cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.
