Cassandra “Cassie” Allen, 79, of Yarmouth, died Thursday, Oct. 19, 2023, at St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Ill.

Cassie was born July 6, 1944, in Muscatine, the daughter of Mike and Vivian Calvert Mills. She was also raised by her step-father, Lloyd Wonderlick. Cassie was united in marriage to Wendell Allen in 1994 in Yarmouth. She will be remembered as a loving person who cared deeply for her family.&nbsp;

Survivors include her husband, Wendell Allen of Yarmouth; children: Bret (Bobbi) Holloway of McCook, Neb.; Michael (Mary) Holloway of Mt. Pleasant; Brad Holloway of Yarmouth; and ViviAnn Allen of McCook, Neb.; 10 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; siblings: Bev Freyermouth of Wilton; Chris (Daune) Schlabaugh of Parnell; Sid (Pam) Mills of North Liberty; and Van (Diane) Mills of Pahrump, Nev.; and many nieces and nephews.

	She was preceded in death by her parents and step-father; son, Calvin C. Holloway, III; and brothers: Gaylord and Darrel.

&nbsp;A visitation will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2023, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Snyder and Hollenbaugh Funeral and Cremation Services of Mediapolis.  A private burial will be held in Kossuth Cemetery.  A memorial has been established for the family in Cassie’s memory.&nbsp;

Duane Paul Moser, 72, of Burlington, died Thursday, Oct. 19, 2023, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born Jan. 11, 1951, in Burlington, he was the son of Leslie Paul and Mary Louise Little Moser.&nbsp; He was a 1969 graduate of Burlington High School.

He married Leslie Berry on Oct. 22, 1977.&nbsp; They later divorced.&nbsp; He then married Mary Paula Dameron on May 14, 1988, in Burlington.

Duane worked for US Borax/Dial Co. for 23 years.&nbsp; He then worked for I.A.A.P. for 16 years until his retirement in 2013.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing golf.&nbsp; He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Denver Broncos fan. He was very sociable, and never knew a stranger.&nbsp; He was the world's biggest flirt and was quite the ladies’ man.&nbsp; His family was very precious to him, and he cherished the time they spent together.

Duane is survived by his wife, Mary Paula Moser of Burlington; his former spouse, Leslie McCullouch of Burlington; five children, Nathan Moser of Burlington, Kristin Moser of Cedar Rapids, Matthew (Casey) Marshall and Sean (Mary) Bragg both of Burlington and Brandi (John) Flynn of Wrens, Georgia; ten grandchildren, Jade, Devon, Aleigha, Gavin, Remy, Noah, Mia, Clarise, Jay and Ramsey; great granddaughter, Emma; brother, Vince (Nancy) Moser and sister Shelly (John) Whooley both of Burlington; his best friend and brother, Jim Standard of Burlington and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Michael Moser, and sister Sandra Rice.

The Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard will conduct military rites at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28 at Lunning Chapel.&nbsp; A celebration of life will follow.

A memorial has been established for the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House.

Cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.

Marilyn “Goofy” Warren, 78, died Thursday, Oct. 19, 2023, at her home. Born Dec. 5, 1944, in Memphis, Mo., she was the daughter of Clifford and Dorothy Bechtel Warren.&nbsp;She married Lloyd Huss Jr. on Feb. 9, 1964. They later divorced.

Marilyn loved listening to music and dancing, especially Gaye and the Country Boys and Conway Twitty. She loved being outdoors and enjoyed camping, fishing, and spending time with her kids and her grandkids. Her family was her entire world.

She is survived by her four children; Carol (Eric) Huss of Marionville, Mo., Almeda “Dottie” Huss of Burlington, Lloyd (Kathy) Huss III of Carman, Ill. and Cecil Huss of Burlington; nine grandchildren, Jerry, Trevor, Jacob, Brayden, Johnathon, Rabecca, Timothy, Eric and Colton; ten great grandchildren; one sister, Betty Wheeler of Memphis, Mo.; one brother Clifford Warren of Burlington and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to send special thanks to her caregiver, Ginger Grisham, who cared for Goofy until the very end.

She was preceded in death by her parents, son Ricky Warren, two sisters, Caroline Wilburn and Darlene Johansmeier, and her special friend of 35 years, Jerry Frasier.

The funeral service for Marilyn will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 28 at Lunning Chapel. Pastor Nate Bridges will officiate. Burial will be in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery.

Marilyn Martha Beik, 78,&nbsp;died peacefully on Oct. 20, 2023 She was born on Dec. 22, 1944, in Burlington,&nbsp;&nbsp;the daughter of Wesley and Madeline Beavers Cooper. She married Lewis Allen Beik on March 25, 1965, and together they had two sons, Mark and David. They later divorced.&nbsp;

Marilyn worked as a hairdresser at several beauty salons in the Burlington area and also at Burlington Care Center until she retired in 2015.

She enjoyed playing games and cards with her friends back in the day. She liked doing crossword puzzles and absolutely loved watching TV, mostly sports and especially the Chicago Bears (against both her sons wishes) and of course, the Iowa Hawkeyes and the TV show Survivor.

More than anything else, she enjoyed being with her grandchildren. She was an excellent cook and thoroughly enjoyed having her family over for Sunday dinners.

Marilyn is survived by her two sons, Mark (Mary) Beik of Burlington and David Beik (fiancé Kasey Paris) of Churchill, Maryland; grandchildren, Jacob (Emily) Schwind of Iowa City, Wyatt Beik of Italy, Zoey (Destin) Mayo and Wyatt Beik both of Elkridge, Mo.; great-grandchildren, Kinsley, Kyler and Baby Girl due in March; brothers, Larry (Karla) Cooper of Slidell, Louisiana, Terry Cooper and Randy (Gina) Cooper both of Burlington and sister Melodee Kennedy of Mediapolis and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Gary Cooper, and sisters Delores Wright, Marla Starman, Cheryl Clouse, Judy Gabriel, and Melissa Hoambrecker.

The funeral service for Mrs. Beik will be 11 a.m. Thursday, October 26 at Lunning Chapel. Pastor Dean Graber will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the funeral service.

Melanie Bradley, 56, died Thursday, Oct. 19, 2023, at home with her daughter and husband by her side.

She was born on Jan., 2, 1967, in Burlington to parents Alan Neil and Heidi Bruner.

She married Mark Beverlin Sr. on Aug., 24, 2002. He unexpectedly died in Nov. 2002. She married Marty Bradley &nbsp;Nov. 2014.

Melanie graduated from Burlington High School in 1985. She went on to become certified pharmacy technician by the Iowa Board of Pharmacy.

She was working as a pharmacy technician at Walmart in West Burlington at the time of her death.

She enjoyed camping, kayaking, taking cruises, and attending football games for the Kansas City Chiefs. Her ultimate enjoyment in life was spending time with those she loved. She was always laughing and creating everlasting memories.

She is survived by, her daughter Cassie Robinson and granddaughter Brynn Robinson of Bondurant, husband, Marty, and children, Erin (Jason) Stratton, Nichole Bradley, grandsons; Xander (Emma) Chalupa, Jaxon Stratton, Patrick and Liam Bradley all of Burlington. Other survivors include; one brother, Pete (Norma) Hodgerson of Tucson, Ariz.

She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, and son-in-law Scott Robinson.

The family will be holding a visitation Monday, Oct. 23, 2023 at Lunning Chapel from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral service will be held the following day, Oct. 24 at 10 a.m. also at Lunning Chapel. The family welcomes all to celebrate her life following her service with a luncheon at LOFT on Jefferson.

Marilyn Kay Holmes, 70, of Fort Madison, died Saturday, Oct. 21, 2023, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born Aug. 18, 1953, in Macomb, Ill., she was the daughter of James and Goldie Benzinger Mixer. On June 10, 1978, she married Warren Dee Holmes Jr. at the First Christian Church in Fort Madison.&nbsp;

Marilyn worked as a cook for Head Start. Prior to that, she had worked for River City Counseling and long before that at Cassano's Pizza in Fort Madison.

She enjoyed canning and gardening, bird watching, especially Hummingbirds, as well as feeding them. Marilyn also enjoyed genealogy, and ancestry and was always telling her grandchildren stories.

Survivors include her mother, Goldie Pruett of Montrose; her husband of 45 years, Warren Dee Holmes Jr. of Fort Madison; three children, Brian (Diane) Moeller of Keokuk, Christina St. Clair of Montrose, and Andrew Holmes of Fort Madison; five grandchildren, Amanda Gilpin, Olivia, Orion and Christopher St. Clair, and Charlianne (Jesse) Blaise; three great-grandchildren, Theron Blaise, Alexis VanTiger and Dean Blaise; brother, Larry Mixer of Montrose; and long time friend, Kay Merten of Donnellson.

She was preceded in death by her father, step-father, Richard Pruett, two grandchildren, and step-sister, Roxanne Pruett.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Marilyn Kay Holmes

Roxanne Burkett Argyros, 69, died in Eldora, on Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2023, from complications of ALS. Roxanne was born on Aug. 6, 1954, in Chicago Heights, Ill. to Louis and Wanda Burkett. The family relocated to Burlington in 1964. Roxanne attended Sunnyside Elementary and Oak Street Middle School, before graduating from Burlington High School in 1972. While attending high school, she worked at the Steak-O-Rama restaurant and met a co-worker, Jerry Argyros, who became her husband the following year. They were married in Cedar Falls on May 28, 1973. In May of this year, they observed their 50th wedding anniversary. Roxanne and Jerry worked in the restaurant business for 36 years. They were owners of Jerry's Pizza &amp; Steakhouse in Belle Plaine (1977-1986) and Eldora (1986-2006). Jerry's Pizza &amp; Steakhouse restaurants were always a local favorite! They took great pride in providing good food and good service in a family-friendly environment. During these busy years, they proudly welcomed two sons, Nick in 1978 and Jim in 1980. While Jerry managed the family restaurant business, Roxanne devoted most of her time to raising their two sons and supporting their many activities. In 2006, Roxanne began a second career working at the State Training School for Boys in Eldora as a receptionist. She remained there for 14 years before retiring in Sept. 2020. What brought her the most joy was spending time with her grandchildren, Maxx and Mia, and watching them grow and learn.

Roxanne leaves behind a family who loved her dearly and will miss her always. Husband Jerry and their two sons, Nick Argyros (Angie Hullinger) of Olathe, Kan.; and Jim Argyros (Maagen) and their two children, Maxx and Mia of West Des Moines. She is also survived by her brother, Mike Burkett of Sunrise Beach, Mo., and sisters Brenda Rodgers (Keith) of Lee's Summit, Mo. and Cindy Boothe (Steve Klein) of West Burlington, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Wanda Burkett and nephew Tanner Boothe. Although living three hours away from her parents, Roxanne was very involved in their care during their aging years. She also adored her nephew Tanner Boothe who passed as a toddler. It's our hope and prayer that these three faces were the first to greet her in Heaven with open arms.

There will be a visitation to greet family and friends from 4 to 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 20, 2023, at Creps Chapel, Abels Funeral and Cremation Service, 905 Edgington Ave., Eldora, IA 50627.

While attending high school, she worked at the Steak-O-Rama restaurant and met a co-worker, Jerry Argyros, who became her husband the following year. They were married in Cedar Falls on May 28, 1973. In May of this year, they observed their 50th wedding anniversary. Roxanne and Jerry worked in the restaurant business for 36 years. They were owners of Jerry's Pizza &amp; Steakhouse in Belle Plaine (1977-1986) and Eldora (1986-2006). Jerry's Pizza &amp; Steakhouse restaurants were always a local favorite! They took great pride in providing good food and good service in a family-friendly environment. During these busy years, they proudly welcomed two sons, Nick in 1978 and Jim in 1980. While Jerry managed the family restaurant business, Roxanne devoted most of her time to raising their two sons and supporting their many activities. In 2006, Roxanne began a second career working at the State Training School for Boys in Eldora as a receptionist. She remained there for 14 years before retiring in Sept. 2020. What brought her the most joy was spending time with her grandchildren, Maxx and Mia, and watching them grow and learn.Roxanne leaves behind a family who loved her dearly and will miss her always. Husband Jerry and their two sons, Nick Argyros (Angie Hullinger) of Olathe, Kan.; and Jim Argyros (Maagen) and their two children, Maxx and Mia of West Des Moines. She is also survived by her brother, Mike Burkett of Sunrise Beach, Mo., and sisters Brenda Rodgers (Keith) of Lee's Summit, Mo. and Cindy Boothe (Steve Klein) of West Burlington, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Wanda Burkett and nephew Tanner Boothe. Although living three hours away from her parents, Roxanne was very involved in their care during their aging years. She also adored her nephew Tanner Boothe who passed as a toddler. Dena R. Willard, 87, of Burlington, Iowa, died Monday, October 16, 2023, at the Wapello Specialty Care Center in Wapello.

Born July 22, 1936, in Toledo, Ohio, she was the daughter of Otis and Myrtle L . Bratt Bridges. She married Alvin Willard on June 20, 1964. He died Aug. 2, 1991.

Dena worked for Champion Spark Plug for almost 30 years, until her retirement in 1999.

She was very accomplished and gifted in crocheting, knitting, sewing and enjoyed sharing her talents with all those she loved. She enjoyed going dancing with her husband, bowling, playing volleyball, playing cards, going to the casino, going out to eat with family, movies, and seeing shows at Players Workshop. She took much pride in attending her granddaughters’ musical concerts.

Dena is survived by her four children; Rick (Anne) Waite of Hanover, Pennsylvania, Susan (John) Van Ness of Genoa, Ohio, Kent Stage of Hagerstown, Ind. and Geraldine (David) Taylor of Burlington; ten grandchildren, Kristina. Eddie, Shannon, Shelby, Remi, Zachary, Katherine. Penelope, Cassandra, and Thorin; 9 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; one sister JoAnn Winterfeld of Swanton, Ohio and many nieces and nephews.

Richard James Heston, a true Renaissance man of art, died Nov. 14, 2022, in Burlington. Born in Mason City on March 31, 1955, Richard was the son of Robert and Marcella Heston.

He was a 1974 graduate of Burlington Community High School. Throughout his lifetime he worked at&nbsp;different establishments in the Burlington area and retired from Laura’s restaurant. Richard was a Harley man and rode and owned motorcycles his entire adult life, but art was his life’s passion. He created in all mediums and was commissioned by many individuals and businesses for their&nbsp;logos. Throughout his lifetime he had many creative accomplishments. He was a featured guest on the PBS show “Living in Iowa”. He was credited with inventing the strawberry Twinkie and he was a walk-on&nbsp;extra in the 2018 movie “Sugar” which was partially filmed at Pzazz. His artwork was published in many&nbsp;books and magazines across the United States. He was a member of the Burlington Art Guild and his&nbsp;work was exhibited at the Art Center of Burlington. He also sold art pieces at local downtown shops.

Richard was preceded in death by his entire family. At age 67 he was the last of his line. He is survived by his companion of 23 years Laura Myers of Burlington and many lifelong friends. Richard will be remembered as a kind and generous person who would give a total stranger his last&nbsp;dollar. He was a champion of all animals and gave shelter and love to many that were abandoned. He was fond of saying that he would leave this world knowing that even when his life was hard, he&nbsp;always had love from his parents, family, friends, and animals.

According to his wishes, cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel. A graveside service and inurnment will be held in Aspen Grove Cemetery Friday, Oct. 20, 2023, at&nbsp; 2:30 p.m. Please meet at the Sunnyside entrance.

Joseph Pierre Roche, 61, of Burlington, died Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2023, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born Sept. 25, 1961, in Burlington, he was the son of Pierre and Betty Roche. He married Nancy Gilbertson; they later divorced but remained close friends.

He is survived by his two stepchildren, David Gilbertson and Jessica Dalton; and three sisters, Diane Poisel, DeLaine Duke, and Dana Malloy.

A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Oct. 21 at the Burlington Gym. A memorial has been established for P.A.W.S. of Fort Madison.

Joan Arlene Carr, 90, of Burlington, died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2023 at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center.

Born Jan. 6, 1933, in Washington, Iowa, she was the daughter of Clarence and Dorothy Gilbert Patterson.

On Oct. 23, 2015, she married Francis Carr in Burlington.

She worked at Spurgeon’s Department Store for many years. Joan enjoyed reading, drawing, painting, and playing cards.

Survivors include her husband, Francis of Burlington; two daughters Lisa Martinez of Fort Madison, and Lori Wilband of Pensacola, Fla.; three grandchildren Chantel Martinez Chamberlin of Fort Madison, Iowa, and Cory Martinez of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Mark Moritz; three great-grandchildren Arius, Braelynn and Chayde.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and two sisters Clarice and Rita.

Robert “Bob” Hand, 68, of Oquawka, Ill., died Monday, Oct. 16, 2023, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born Oct. 11, 1955, in Burlington, he was the son of Edward and Maxine Zippe Hand. He married Fay Adams on Sept. 17, 1977. They later divorced.

Bob was a pipefitter for Local #25 of Rock Island, Illinois for 40 years.

He enjoyed his birds and dogs and loved taking motorcycle rides and nature walks. He was a true outdoorsman. He was an amateur Ham Radio enthusiast who was fluent in Morse code.

Bob is survived by his two children; David (Rhonna) Hand and Jennifer (Evan) Hand both of Oquawka; three grandchildren, Ethan (Anahi) Hand, Alicen Hand, and Riley Hand; great-granddaughter Maya Hand; his two American Bulldogs, Jax, and Brody; his stepmother, Barbara Hand of Burlington; his siblings, Steve Hand, Susan Carper, and Becky Heiniger; step-siblings, Linda Ellis, Jim Howard, Sandy Steele and Sally Miller; half-siblings. John Hand and Julie Conrad and special friend Kathy Monshower of Thompson, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Ed Hand, and special friend Eve Cochran.

The funeral service for Mr. Hand will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 21 at Lunning Chapel. The Rev. Father Jacob Greiner will officiate. Burial will be held in Edwards Cemetery, rural Oakville, Iowa. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service on Saturday.

James Lee Royer, 69, of Burlington died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2023, at his home.

Born Aug. 3, 1954, in Fairfield, he was the son of James and Julia Landes Royer.

James graduated from Burlington High School and completed his degree at Southeastern Community College in Heating/AC.

He married Christine Wills in April of 1972. They later divorced. He married Kim Gerst and they later divorced.

James was a self-employed Heating/AC specialist. He also managed restaurants and bars in Burlington and Gulfport. He loved to watch Nascar.

Survivors include one son Shane Royer of Burlington; his mother Julia Royer of Burlington; one brother Rick Royer of Richardson, Texas and one sister Connie Knotts of Burlington.

He was preceded in death by his father and brother Ronald Royer.

Per his wishes, cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel. Inurnment will be at a later date in Long Creek Cemetery.

Dale F. Green, 91, of Mount Pleasant, died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2023, at Park Place Manor in Mount Pleasant.

Born March 10, 1932, in Burnside, Ill., he was the son of Frank and Corinne Bisteadue Green. On May 9, 1953, he married Mable Thacker in LaHarpe, Ill, she died May 5, 1992. On Nov. 1, 1996, he married Idell Foster, in Fargo, N.D., she died Nov. 23, 1998. 

Dale served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. Dale was a truck driver for BN transport for 30 years. He was of Methodist faith. He enjoyed camping, going to the casino, and enjoyed playing checkers, and putting puzzles together with his family. 

Survivors include one daughter Joan (David) Goldapp of Milwaukee Wis.; one son John (Vickie) Green, of Norfolk, Neb.; five granddaughters; numerous great-grandchildren; two sisters, Phyillis Stout, and Wilma Williams, and one brother, Harry Green. He was preceded in death by his parents, Junior, Bob, Arlene, Carmilla, and Frances.

Christina Lynn Judd-Carlson

Billy D. Baxter, age 70, of Winfield, died unexpectedly Friday, Oct. 13, 2023, at Henry County Health Center.

Billy was born Aug. 4, 1953, in Garden City, Kan., the son of William Kemp and Izetta Pearl Caudill Baxter. 

Billy worked for McWhirter Chevrolet Buick and most recently Mount Pleasant Glass for more than 25 years. He enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs, Green Bay Packers, and Iowa Hawkeye Football. Billy could often be found near water, spending time doing what he loved, fishing. &nbsp;

Billy is survived by his significant other, Jo Ellen Wood of Winfield; two children, William Baxter of Mount Pleasant, and Gayle Baxter of Washington; two brothers Jim Baxter of Medicine Lodge, Kansas, Carl (Kay) Baxter of Keosauqua; three sisters Mona (David) Gates of New London, Anna (Carl) Lloyd of New London, June (Curt) Moeller of Brownsville, Texas; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, George, Leeroy, David; one sister Margarette; and a grandson.&nbsp;

According to his wishes, his body will be cremated and a celebration of life will be held at a later date. A memorial fund has been established to assist the family with funeral expenses. The Olson-Powell Chapel &amp; Crematory is caring for Billy and his family.

Baxter, age 70, of Winfield, died unexpectedly Friday, Oct. 13, 2023, at Henry County Health Center.Billy was born Aug. 4, 1953, in Garden City, Kan., the son of William Kemp and Izetta Pearl Caudill Baxter. Billy worked for McWhirter Chevrolet Buick and most recently Mount Pleasant Glass for more than 25 years. He enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs, Green Bay Packers, and Iowa Hawkeye Football. Billy could often be found near water, spending time doing what he loved, fishing. &nbsp;Billy is survived by his significant other, Jo Ellen Wood of Winfield; two children, William Baxter of Mount Pleasant, and Gayle Baxter of Washington; two brothers Jim Baxter of Medicine Lodge, Kansas, Carl (Kay) Baxter of Keosauqua; three sisters Mona (David) Gates of New London, Anna (Carl) Lloyd of New London, June (Curt) Moeller of Brownsville, Texas; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.&nbsp;He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, George, Leeroy, David; one sister Margarette; and a grandson.&nbsp;According to his wishes, his body will be cremated and a celebration of life will be held at a later date. A memorial fund has been established to assist the family with funeral expenses. The Olson-Powell Chapel &amp; Crematory is caring for Billy and his family.

Janet F. Buford,&nbsp;85, of Donnellson, died 10:05 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, 2023, at the Clark County Nursing Home in Kahoka, Mo.

She was born on Nov. 12, 1937, the daughter of Albert A. and Faye Halferty Schreiber. On Jan. 25, 1959, she married Charles Warren Buford in Revere, Mo. He preceded her in death on June 8, 2016.

Survivors include her two sons Jeff (Wendy) Buford of Donnellson, and David (Lori) Buford of Bonaparte, one daughter; Mary (Bill) Allaman of Oquawka, Ill., eight grandchildren; Travis (Kara) Buford, Jill (Troy) DeRoos, Tyler (Megan) Buford, Justin (Bobby) Allaman, Rachael Allaman, Nick (Amanda) Buford, Danielle (Ian) Homich and Holly Bevier, ten great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Charlie; one daughter: Carol Buford; one grandson: Zachary Bevier; three brothers and their spouses.

Janet was a graduate of Revere High School. She enjoyed gardening, working on the farm, going on four-wheeler rides with her husband Charlie, being a caregiver to her family, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 19, 2023, at Schmitz Funeral Home in Donnellson.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 19, 2023, at Schmitz Funeral Home in Donnellson with Pastor Dan Deatrick officiating.

Burial will be at Embury Cemetery, rural Donnellson.

Bart L. Orth, 71, of Burlington, died after an almost two-year battle with cancer and a longtime survivor of heart disease on Oct. 10, 2023. He was always keeping the faith. Bart was born on Jan. 1, 1952, to Albert and Marion Hamilton Orth. Bart married Ellen on Oct. 13, 1973. He was a devoted husband and father, always proud of his three sons, Wesley, Logan, and Skyler. Bart was known to drop everything and come to the aid of his children whether it be day or night. He loved fixing things and had patience and determination while even fixing the smallest of objects that could have been bought, but instead, he found value in all items and rarely threw anything away. Bart loved trees and he had planted many over the years. He retired from J.I. Case Company after 30 years. He was a good friend, and could always be counted on for a helping hand to do anything needed. He was a wonderful carpenter, even building a beautiful new kitchen several years ago with all the special “Bart” designs. He never said, “I can’t do that.”; he just got the right tools and learned. Always, the consummate perfectionist – and if it wasn’t right, he’d tear it up and start over without complaining. Bart loved his cat Ellie Mae, who lived to be 19 years old, and our dog, Meisha.

 Bart was a devoted member of Asbury United Methodist Church. He was especially proud of the cross he lovingly made so that while the older children were lighting the candles, the smaller ones had a chance to go ahead of them and carry the cross to the sanctuary and not feel left out. He loved to sing and play his guitar and often took it with him for family events. He sang in the church choir for many years and played his guitar and sang solos and duets for his Savior. He is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers Henry, Pete, and Albert Jr. in infancy, and sister, Sharon Carspecken.

Survivors include his wife, Ellen of 50 years; three sons, Wesley (Julie), Logan (April) of Burlington and Skyler (Kellie) of New London. He is also survived by his family, Tom (Judy) Orth, Dan (Susan) Orth, Tim (Bambi) Orth, Rick (Carrie) Orth, Tony (Carol) Orth all of Burlington; Beth (Landis) Hinesley of New Mexico; sister-in-law Kathy Orth of Burlington; and sister-in-law, Sherry Orth of Utah and several loving nieces and nephews; three step-grandchildren, Jenna Swisher (Wynston Gray), Jacob Bench (Kylie), and Jack Banks.

At this time there will be no formal service, but a celebration of life will be planned next summer as per his wishes. Cremation has been entrusted to Lunning Funeral Chapel.

Gary Lloyd Rolf, 81, died Oct. 11, 2023, due to complications from a stroke. Born Oct. 19, 1941, in Burlington, he spent his childhood in West Burlington and attended Burlington High School. He graduated from East High School of Aurora, Ill., where memorably he played the part of Curly in “Oklahoma!”. Gary went on to graduate from the University of Iowa; later, he earned all 7 Microsoft certifications. His true passion was buying and selling on eBay which he enjoyed for many years. Gary’s love for music continued throughout his life. He enjoyed karaoke, listening to and singing along with his favorite songs on YouTube and his personal collection of CDs.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Mabel Rolf; his older sister, Donna, and a son, Gary Lee. He is survived by two sisters, Deanna (Howard) Young and Georgia (Philip) Heckenberg, his nieces and nephews, and his best friend Shane, whom he considered a son.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the compassionate caregivers Gary had at Iowa City’s Mercy Hospital and UIHC, Premiere Estates in Muscatine, and St. Croix Hospice. They went above and beyond the call of duty with their exceptional care.

A private memorial service will be held in the spring at Greenwood Cemetery.

Bonnie L. Scheller, 100, of Springfield, died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2023, at Allure of Knox County in Galesburg, Ill.

Born Feb. 7, 1923, in Newton, Kan., she was the daughter of Joseph O. and Mary O. Miller Brown. On June 10, 1941, she married Irwin Carl in Newton, Kan. He died on May 30, 1978.

She had a great passion and loved her work as a beautician. She worked with many clients in Anderson, Ind., and Springfield, Ill. for years, until retiring in her 70's.

Bonnie was a member of the Church of God in Springfield and very involved for many years. She enjoyed tracking the weather and liked to do puzzle books and coloring pages. She loved baseball, especially the Chicago Cubs. Most of all, Bonnie loved her family and taking trips to Iowa and Alaska to visit them.&nbsp;

Survivors include her daughter, Dee (Robie) Levitt of Burlington; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; dear friends, Linda Canter of Springfield, Ill. and Maxine Boston of Girard, Ill. and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Susan Matteson, great-grandson, Cory Levitt, two brothers, Naaman and Jess Brown, and one sister, Mary Ruth Libhart.&nbsp;

There will be no services at this time. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Springfield at a later date.&nbsp;

Bonnie L. Scheller

Dale Robert Bartelt, 75, of Mediapolis died Thursday, Oct. 12, 2023, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.

Dale was born Dec. 12, 1947, in Algona, and was the fifth of six sons born to Harry and Marie (Brandt) Bartelt. They lived on a farm north of Titonka. He grew up learning the value of hard work alongside his father and brothers and established his lifelong love of farming.

Dale graduated from Titonka High School with the class of 1966. He attended college at Iowa State University and graduated in 1970 with a major in Ag Business. Dale was united in marriage to Julie Grove on October 9, 1971, at First Baptist Church in Corydon. They welcomed two children into their family, Shannon Leigh and Robert Boyd.

Dale's first job was as a field representative for Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance Company. He came to love the insurance business over the next 47 years of his career. He and Julie moved to Mediapolis, in 1976 where Dale managed DMC Mutual and owned and operated Eland Agency for 35 years. Dale served on the board of directors for Grinnell Mutual for 33 years, serving as board president his last 6 years. He was honored for his years of leadership by the naming of the Bartelt Conference and Education Center at Grinell Mutual in 2017.

Dale had a strong Christian faith and was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Burlington. He and Julie helped care for the grounds and gardens as part of the landscape crew. Dale never lost his love of the farm and acquired a farm property on Highway 61 which he turned into a showplace. He restored the two old barns on the property and the oldest, an 1870s bank barn, was given a barn of distinction award by the Iowa Barn Foundation and was included in their All state barn tours. He and Julie served as the Des Moines County representatives for the IBF. His final wish was to have a covered bridge built over Knotty Creek, which runs through the farm, and it was completed in May 2023.

Dale had many interests including collecting antiques and vintage farm toys and implements. He was active in various community organizations including the Planning and Zoning Board, Mediapolis Athletic Boosters, and the Lions Club. Dale's greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his six grandchildren.

Dale and Julie traveled extensively in the U.S. and Europe. They made a goal to visit all 424 parks and monuments in the National Park System. They proudly displayed a map marked with the locations of the 220 that they were able to visit together.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Julie; daughter and son-in-law Shannon Bartelt-Hunt and George Hunt of Omaha; son and daughter-in-law Robert and Kate Bartelt of Cedar Falls; grandchildren Samuel Hunt, Olivia Bartelt, Alden Hunt, Daniel Bartelt, Audrey Bartelt, and Abigail Bartelt; brothers Wayne (Eljean) Bartelt of Cedar Falls, Lloyd (Verla) Bartelt of Woden, Glenn Bartelt of Maquoketa; brothers-in-law Lad (Patty) Grove of Ames and Ted Grove (Shanni Dimmit) of Clatskanie, Ore. as well as a host of beloved nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Merlin and Keith, a sister who died at birth, and sisters-in-law Alice, Darlene, and Peggy Bartelt.

Family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22, 2023, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division St.

The celebration of life for Mr. Bartelt will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 23, 2023, at Messiah Lutheran Church.&nbsp; Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.&nbsp; A time of food and fellowship will be held in Messiah Lutheran Church following the burial.

Starting in 1981, Dale battled five different types of cancer throughout his lifetime. He defeated them all until a final cancer diagnosis came in late 2022. Donald “Ray” Harris, 77, of Burlington, died Friday, Sept. 22, 2023, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.

He was born Aug. 20, 1946, in Tulsa, Okla., and was the son of Willie and Ida Mae Pouncil Harris. He married the love of his life, Margo Parrish, on Nov. 25, 1987, in Tulsa, Okla.

He attended Booker T. Washington High School in Tulsa, Okla.

Ray would then go on to work for Champion Spark Plug for 30 years, where he handled a multitude of responsibilities along with being a proud Union Rep and Grievance Fighter.&nbsp;

Ray attended Heritage Baptists Church and was a St. John's African Methodist Episcopal Church member. He was known for numerous acts of charity; such as starting a food pantry and working for United Way. After Margo, some of his other loves were golfing, fishing, hunting, playing dominoes, listening to music, watching Western movies, and last but not least he was an avid Minnesota Vikings fan.

Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Margo Harris of Burlington; his children, Travares (Jennifer) Harris of Minneapolis, Minn., Shayla Harris of Plymouth, Minn., Deanna Lewis of Milwaukee, WI, Harry (Trisha) Lewis of Newton, and James Lewis of Semi Valley, Calif.; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; three sisters, Odessa Burkhaulter of Tulsa, Okla., Cathy Harris of Tulsa, Okla., and Dianna Kaye Harris of Tulsa, Okla.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two children, Donald Ray Harris Jr. and Nina Harris, granddaughter DeAndrya Harris, his five brothers, Bobby, Willie Jr., Earnest, Wilbert, and Michael Harris, and sister Maybelline Harris, Alden Harris, Alire Rogene, and Marilyn Harris.&nbsp;

Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. with the family to receive friends Friday, Oct. 13, 2023, at Prugh Funeral Service.

The funeral service for Mr. Harris will be 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13, 2023, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street. A repast will be held at Bethany Lutheran Church following the service.&nbsp; Cremation will be entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory following the service.&nbsp;&nbsp;

 </figure>Donald “Ray” Harris, 77, of Burlington, died Friday, Sept. 22, 2023, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.He was born Aug. 20, 1946, in Tulsa, Okla., and was the son of Willie and Ida Mae Pouncil Harris. He married the love of his life, Margo Parrish, on Nov. 25, 1987, in Tulsa, Okla.He attended Booker T. Washington High School in Tulsa, Okla.Ray would then go on to work for Champion Spark Plug for 30 years, where he handled a multitude of responsibilities along with being a proud Union Rep and Grievance Fighter.&nbsp;Ray attended Heritage Baptists Church and was a St. John's African Methodist Episcopal Church member. He was known for numerous acts of charity; such as starting a food pantry and working for United Way.
