Linda Jo Brockett Inghram, 66, of Burlington, peacefully passed in her sleep on Sept. 24, 2023, after a long fight with cancer.

She was the daughter of Charles William Sr. and Alvera Eileen Reed Brockett. She was born in Keokuk on Sept. 13, 1957.

Linda was a homemaker. She was a strong, independent, woman who was not afraid to tell you what was on her mind. She was a free spirited, loving and caring person to all her family and friends and would do what she could for them. Linda loved to spend time with her grandchildren at the local pools and always loved to lay in the sun and get a tan and try to get darker than her nephew.

To her nieces and nephews, she was the ornery one and they never knew what would be next and they truly &nbsp;loved her to the very end. She cherished her daughters and grandchildren every minute of her life and they truly will be lost without her.

If you knew Linda well, you knew she would always flash the peace sign at you and when it was time to leave it was never goodbye but see you later. So, she is saying “See you all later”.

Linda is survived by her mother, Alvera Brockett; two daughters, Heather (Shawn McChesney) Brockett and Desirae Swedenburg; grandchildren, Chanse McChesney, Caiden Swedenburg and Rayna Swedenburg; great-granddaughter, Gioia McChesney; siblings, Chuck (Sue) Brockett, Carolyn Brockett Warth and Harold “Buck” (Lori) Brockett all of Burlington and Margie (Jim) Bennoff of Rockford, Illinois and sister-in-law Denise Brockett of Roscoe, Ill. and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Linda is preceded in death by her father, Charles Brockett Sr., three brothers, Loren Brockett, Martin Brockett and Danny Brockett and paternal and maternal grandparents, great grandparents and aunts, uncles and cousins.

Per Linda’s request, cremation has been entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel. There will be no services.

Linda Jo Inghram

Larry Dale Osborn, 86, of West Burlington, died Sunday, Sept. 24, 2023, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born April 8, 1937 in Des Moines County, he was the son of Dale and Elsie Schultz Osborn. He married Patricia Welcher Oard in 1976 in Burlington. She died Oct. 22, 2018.

Larry was in the National Guard for nine years. He was a farmer and worked for the Iowa Department of Transportation as a mechanic. He retired in 2000 after 24 years of service.

Larry was a member of the West Burlington Lions. He enjoyed working on cars and performing maintenance on his farm. He was active at Peace Lutheran Church

Survivors include his two sons Rodney (Jane) Oard of West Burlington and Todd Oard of Kansas City, Mo. He has five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother Richard and son Tony.

Per his wishes, cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel. Inurnment will be in Prairie Grove Cemetery.

Paul U. Walz, 90, of Burlington, died Friday, Sept. 22, 2023, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice in West Burlington.

Born July 21, 1933, in Burlington, he was the son of Carl and Rosetta Moehn Walz. In 1954, he married Suzanne Crane in Bellville, Ill.. &nbsp;On Sept. 2, 1977, he married Doris J. McColloch Hellenthal in West Burlington.&nbsp;

Paul worked for five years for the Des Moines County Sheriff Department and four and half years for Burlington Police Department. &nbsp;Before retiring in 1991, after 26 years of service with the Burlington School District as school bus transportation director. &nbsp;

He was a 1953 graduate of Burlington High School. &nbsp;

He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran with the rank of Airman First Class, serving during the Korean War from 1953 until 1957.

He was a member of Divine Mercy Parish and the Moose Lodge #579. &nbsp;He enjoyed golfing, gardening, dancing and volunteering. &nbsp;

Survivors include his wife, Doris J. Walz of West Burlington; two sons, Brian Walz of Elburn, Ill. and David Walz of Johnsburg, Ill.; &nbsp;three daughters, Melissa Boldebuck of Van Buren, Ark., Theresa Castro of Brooksfield, Ill. and Mary Lluhi of Mount Dora, Fla.; one step-son, Nick Hellenthal of Cedar Falls; 10 grandchildren, Jonathan, Ryan Paul, Giancarlo, Brent, Ryan Matthew, Erin, Victoria, Sara, Emilie, and Adriana; six great-grandchildren, Nathan, Naomi, Delphina, Keira, Jaeden, and Arabella and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Joseph, one sister, Rosemary Freedman, one grandson, Scott David Walz and one son-in-law, Craig Boldebuck. &nbsp;

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for St. Vincent de Paul Society. &nbsp;

The family is grateful to the caring staff of Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice in West Burlington, for the compassion and comfort they gave to Paul and his family.

Paul U. Walz

Marvin "Lee" Parks, 75, of Burlington, died Monday, Sept. 11, 2023, at his home with his family by his side.

Born April 17, 1948, in Maryville, Mo., he was the son of Beldon and Audrey Ballard Parks.

Lee graduated from Albany High School in Albany, Mo. and attended Regis University. He served in the United States Navy at NAS Cecil Field during the Vietnam Era from 1969 to 1973 as an electronics mechanic. During his time in the Navy Lee received glowing reviews from his seniors regarding his aptness, cleanliness, and leadership skills. He was recommended for advancement in nearly every one of his reviews.

On Sept. 24, 1976, he married Judith Cook at her grandparents’ residence in Burlington. After living in various states, they retired in 2005 and returned to Judy’s family homestead where Lee enjoyed his time tinkering in his shop, working on his tractors and building furniture for the people whom he loved the most. Lee was a member of the New Hope Evangelical Free Church. He inspired those closest to him to seek patience, always give their best effort, and love without bias. He truly was one of a kind, rarely had an unkind word for anyone, and will be deeply missed.

Lee retired as the regional manager for Pizza Hut after 36 years. He began his career at Pizza Hut while in the Navy and worked his way up from being a cook into the Pizza Hut corporation where his work ethic and quality of his work were held in high regard. So much so that when Lee decided to leave the corporate life, he had his pick of where he wanted to work, and for whom he wanted to work as he transitioned back into the franchise side of this business. 

He grew up on a farm and had a variety of jobs when younger. He was never afraid of work and spent his youth on the farm honing his mechanical abilities. Lee was an artist, a refined woodworker, furniture builder, he finished houses and restored old cars and tractors. He especially liked restoring tractor and car engines. Lee had a remarkable knack for fixing anything that ever broke without ever having prior knowledge of how to service what he was working on. He often fabricated new parts for things that were broken. There were few things that Lee didn’t know how to do and fewer that he couldn’t figure out when he put his mind to it. He enjoyed fishing, boating, going to the kids’ and grandkids’ sporting events, and their family vacations to the beach in South Carolina. Most of all, he enjoyed the company of the people he called family, blood or not.

Survivors include his wife, Judy of Burlington; son Kristopher (Jessica) Parks of Chaska, Minn.; daughter Kendra Parks of Burlington; adopted sons Cole Parks and Asher Parks of Burlington; four grandchildren Tyler, Peyton, Kinley and Greyson; three brothers Lloyd Parks of Iowa, Larry (Cheri) Parks of Florida and Robert (Tammy) Parks of Georgia; Sister Jerilyn (Randy) Plathe of Iowa; Sisters-in-law Christine Coates of Florida, Marsha Pruisner of Minnesota, Margaret (Henry) Newell of Kentucky, Jeannine (Stephen) Delpit of Florida (fondly called the sister wives) and many nieces and nephews. While in Minnesota Lee and Judy welcomed into their home Antoine Gbonu from Togo West Africa teaching him all about the American way of life and then helping his family immigrate to the United States. Antoine still calls them Mom and Dad.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law Dianne Parks.

Per Lee’s wishes, cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel. A celebration of life will be held in April 2024. Inurnment will be at a later date in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

Memorials have been established for the Parkinson’s Foundation and Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice.

Marvin “Lee” Parks

Born Feb. 16, 1945, in Plymouth, Ind., he was the son of Clarence and Maxine Harris Hill.&nbsp;

He graduated from Bourbon High School and began a career at UPS. After he retired from UPS, he started his own construction company. Through the years he became everyone’s handyman, never telling anyone no, no matter how much he had to work. Lloyd was kind, fair, and always made sure he left you with the knowledge to do it yourself. He loved his family, friends, and animals. Lloyd was also a member of the Moose.

Lloyd is loved and missed by his wife of 50 years, Jacque, and children Lyna, Sherry, Jill, Michelle, and Julia. His siblings Ron, Patricia, Linda, and Mary, along with several in-laws, cousins, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and friends.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Oct. 7, 2023.

Lloyd Eugene Hill

Travis Brown, 42, of Fort Madison, died Friday, Sept. 15, 2023, in Burlington.

Born May 9, 1981, at Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, N.C. to Shelia Brown. He was the adopted son of Steven and Vicky Robertson Brown. He married the love of his life Heidi Humphries twice; once on March 17, 2011 and again on Feb. 2, 2023.&nbsp;

Travis was always a hard worker. He was a carpenter for New Vision Contracting.

Travis was a member of Joy Baptist Church in Fort Madison and loved reading his Bible. He especially enjoyed taking walks or watching movies with his wife. He was a lover of music and his favorite band was Blink 182. Travis had a thirst for knowledge and was always learning new things. He had a very strong passion for cooking. Every day after work he enjoyed caring for his many plants. He was very funny and ornery. He had a very big heart, was a good listener, and was very willing to help anyone who needed help. Most of all, he loved his friends and family.

Survivors include his wife of Fort Madison; parents, Steven and Vicky Brown of Wever; mother, Shelia Brown of Fairfield; three sons, Bailey Schwerin of Traer, Tykel Brown and Tayvias Brown of Burlington; two grandchildren, Zaiden and Vera, plus another on the way; two brothers, Brian (Nikki Clements) Brown of Burlington, and Christopher (Kayla Hills) Brown of Hudson, one niece, Starla Clements and grandparents, Richard Robertson of Wapello and Lela Robertson of West Burlington.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents and one infant child.

Visitation will be from noon until 7 p.m. with the family to receive friends from 5 to &nbsp;7 p.m., Monday, Oct. 2, 2023 at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street, Burlington.

The funeral service for Mr. Brown will be 1 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2023 at Prugh Funeral Service, with Pastor Earl Beal officiating. &nbsp;Burial will be in Claypoole Cemetery, Wever following the service. &nbsp;A time of food and fellowship will be held at the Burlington Eagles Club following the burial.

Travis Brown

Elizabeth Sumner Dickman, 74, formerly of Tell City, Ind., died Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2023, in Burlington.

Born Jan. 6, 1949, in Rockport, Ind., she was the daughter of Albert and Esther Little Sumner. On April 4, 1970, she married Gene Dickman. He preceded her in death on Aug. 28, 2013.

Liz worked at GE and Tell City High School as the kitchen manager for many years.

She enjoyed a good cup of coffee, shopping, gardening, working on interior design projects, and reading. She also liked to spend time with her friends and attend her grandchildren's sporting events and activities. She was affectionately known as Nana, not only to her grandchildren but many others who knew her.

Survivors include her daughter, Misty (Ryan) Harris of Burlington; grandchildren: Brooke Elizabeth, Emma Jean and Noah Ryan Harris; siblings: Richard (Priscilla) Sumner, Carolyn Sumner, Peggy (Larry) Cardin, Connie (Mike) Kahler, Judy (Jim Roehn) Sumner, Brenda (Richard) Simpson, Henry Sumner, and Nickii (Danny) Freeman; several nieces and nephews; honorary grandchildren, Laney and Everley Davis and dear friend, Mary Jo Sabelhaus.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Doris Davis and Debbie Sumner.

Services will be held in Tell City Indiana by Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Troy Indiana.&nbsp;

On April 4, 1970, she married Gene Dickman. He preceded her in death on Aug. 28, 2013.Liz worked at GE and Tell City High School as the kitchen manager for many years.She enjoyed a good cup of coffee, shopping, gardening, working on interior design projects, and reading. She also liked to spend time with her friends and attend her grandchildren's sporting events and activities. She was affectionately known as Nana, not only to her grandchildren but many others who knew her.Survivors include her daughter, Misty (Ryan) Harris of Burlington; grandchildren: Brooke Elizabeth, Emma Jean and Noah Ryan Harris; siblings: Richard (Priscilla) Sumner, Carolyn Sumner, Peggy (Larry) Cardin, Connie (Mike) Kahler, Judy (Jim Roehn) Sumner, Brenda (Richard) Simpson, Henry Sumner, and Nickii (Danny) Freeman; several nieces and nephews; honorary grandchildren, Laney and Everley Davis and dear friend, Mary Jo Sabelhaus.Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Doris Davis and Debbie Sumner.Services will be held in Tell City Indiana by Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home. Marlene Jackson, 90, of Burlington, died Thursday, Sept. 21, 2023, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born Sept. 10, 1933, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Alvin William and Gertrude Caroline Schmitt Mumm. On July 28, 1951, she married Clarence Robert in Dillon, S.C. He died on Sept. 22, 2010.

She was a 1951 graduate of Burlington High School.&nbsp;

Marlene worked at Sylvania for 9 years, Mendenhall Oil for 13 years, and had various office jobs throughout her life.

She was a member of First United Church of Christ, Red Hats Society, YMCA, and the Burlington Gym. Marlene was a Hawkeye fan and liked soap operas. She enjoyed traveling, going to the YMCA, being involved in many social activities and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include four daughters, Brenda Kay (John) Dahl, Karen Sue (Bud) Carkhuff, Rhonda Renee (David) Hauswirth, and Barbie Ann (Brandy Hamlin) Jackson all of Burlington; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; brother, David Mumm of Burlington and sister, Joyce (Leo) Timberlake of Burlington.

Marlene was preceded in death by her beloved husband, parents, one brother, and one granddaughter.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory. Celebration of Live will be at the Burlington Gym, 129 S. 4th, October 8 at 4 p.m.&nbsp;

In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for First United Church of Christ or Burlington Gym.

Joan Hogberg, age 90, of Burlington, died Tuesday, September 19, 2023.

Born Jan. 30, 1933, in Moline, Ill., she was the daughter of John and Gladys Lamb Holst. On May 6, 1951, she married Wayne Hogberg in Burlington.

&nbsp;Joan is preceded in death by her husband, Wayne; daughter, Susan; sisters, Barbara Lant, Delores Kester, and Ruth Ann Eastland; and parents, John and Gladys.

Joan's family will receive guests for visitation at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)&nbsp; Saturday, Sept. 23, from 10 to 11 a.m.

The funeral service for Mrs. Hogberg will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, 2023, at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) with Reverend David J. Yonker and Reverend Anika McVay officiating. Joan will be laid to rest beside her husband at Aspen Grove Cemetery.

Joan Hogberg

Joseph Pierre Roche, 61, of Burlington, died Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2023, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born Sept. 25, 1961, in Burlington, he was the son of Pierre and Betty Roche. He was a 1981 graduate of Burlington High School.

He married Nancy Gilbertson, they later divorced but remained close friends.

Joe worked for Pepsi, Aldi Warehouse, and more recently co-managed Taco Johns along with Nancy.

He attended the Salvation Army and was very close to Ali and Nathan Welch and their son. He loved attending services, and lunches and spending time with his friends there.

He was a kind, loving soul who had very little but had the world. He was deeply and greatly loved by all who knew him. He was a true dog lover, enjoyed the river, and was known to be quite a bargain hunter. Along with his “thrifting”, he was also very generous and donated items to many area drop-off locations. Joe was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan and loved watching football.

He is survived by his dog, Buddy; two stepchildren, David Gilbertson of Burlington and Jessica Dalton of Mediapolis; three sisters, Diane (Joe) Poisel, DeLaine (Jay) Duke, and Dana (Mike) Malloy, all of Burlington; and six nieces and nephews, Emily Underwood, Natalie Vahle, Austin Duke, Trevor Duke, Brandon Malloy and Bryanna Hulett. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Oct. 21 at the Burlington Gym. A memorial has been established for P.A.W.S. of Fort Madison.

According to his wishes, cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.

Romona Christeen Gonzalez, 65, of Burlington, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Sept. 19, 2023, at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born April 30, 1958, in Omaha, Neb., she was the daughter of Virgil Kerschner and Peggy Weir Whalen. She married Esteban Gonzalez, and they later divorced.

She worked as a factory worker and a bartender and more recently for General Mills until her retirement in 2015.

Romona loved spending time with her grandkids and her pets. She was an avid reader and was known to be a bargain hunter and a thrift shopper. She had a great sense of humor. Romona was always limited in what she could provide but her wishes and thoughts were always for the best for her family. She always wanted to visit family more than she was able to and they were always on her mind and close to her heart.

She is survived by her two children; Mona (Mark) Farren of Burlington and Coolidge Durham of North Carolina; six grandchildren; one sister Lanny Crowner of Coralville; her special friend Nikki Moore of Cedar Rapids; nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Virgil Kerschner, and nephew John Crowner Jr.

The graveside funeral service and interment for Romona will be 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 25 at Aspen Grove Cemetery. Pastor Don Crawford will officiate.

Billy Lee "Pops" Johansmeier, 80, of Burlington, died Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2023 at the Southeast Iowa Hospice House surrounded by his loving family.

Born, Sept. 9, 1943, in Burlington, he was the son of Elmer and Ella Scheihing Johansmeier. He graduated from Wapello High School. On Oct. 28, 1983, he married Darlene Brookhart in Burlington. She preceded him in death on May 7, 2022.

In his early years, Bill worked at HON Industries in Muscatine, and retired after 20 years. After retirement, he worked several years at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown.

Bill spent hours of enjoyment walking the West Burlington Mall, hospital pond, and local neighborhoods with his father, until his passing, then on his own.

Bill’s greatest joy, was spending time with his grandchildren. He was devoted to watching their sporting events, like baseball games, football games, and soccer. He loved when they visited from out of town and always had the best snacks waiting.

His love of animals is known by all. Over the years he has had too many dogs and cats to count but any stray that showed up suddenly found their fur-ever home.

Bill’s last few years were spent next to his devoted wife, Darlene, at the Aspire Nursing Home in Donnellson enjoying their time together until her passing.

He made many friends along his life journey but his family always gave him his greatest joy, all his smiles and laughs and all his love.

Bill is survived by one brother Ray Johansmeier and his wife Kristy Christen of Pass Christian, Miss.; six children Dana Dubyak (Jerry) of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Jay Johansmeier (Debbie) of St. Charles, Ill., Libby Goben (Scott) of Kahoka, Mo., Teresa Gartner (Chuck) of Auburn, Wash., Dennis Wayne Brookhart of Burlington, and Billy Brookhart (Shannon) of Maple Valley, Wash.; 14 grandchildren Derek and Sean Dubyak, Jake, Luke and Kyle Johansmeier, Christina Brooks, Jennifer Jackson, Shelby Goben, Roni Harkey, Scott Goben, Jr, Adrian Hill, Natalie Guest, Amiee Tucker, Clinton Brookhart; 27 Great Grandchildren; two sisters-in-law Betty Wheeler and Marilyn Warren; one brother-in-law Clifford Warren; lots of extended family, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, twin brothers Ronald and Donald Johansmeier in infancy, and sister-in-law Carolyn Wellborn.

Per his wishes, cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.

The service for Mr. Johansmeier will be Saturday, September 30, 2023, at 11 a.m. at Lunning Chapel with Pastor Andrew Oldfield officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be in Wapello Cemetery.

Larry Don Moore, 86 died Sunday Sept. 17, 2023. Born in Johnson County, Iowa to Donald and Helen Gordon Moore. 

He is survived by his brother Jimmy, wife Sharon, 5 children, 13 grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, a daughter-in-law, and a grandchild.

Larry Don Moore, 86 died Sunday Sept. 17, 2023. Born in Johnson County, Iowa to Donald and Helen Gordon Moore. Larry Don Moore

Edward “Ed” Schrock, 93, formerly of Mediapolis, died Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2023, at Great River Klein Center in West Burlington.

Born Jan. 10, 1930, in Oakville, Ed was the son of Noah and Hattie Lanz Schrock and attended Huron High School, graduating in 1947. On Nov. 14, 1959 he married Sara “Sally” Gerst in Burlington.

From 1951-1955, he served with the U.S. Air Force, stationed at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas for one year, followed by assignments at Keesler AFB in Mississippi, and Turkey Hill Air Force Base in Belleville, Ill., for three years, where he would meet lifelong friends Dave Creamer and Ed “Skeeter” Wright.&nbsp; After being discharged from the Air Force, Ed thenfarmed in rural Oakville for a number of years. In 1962, he and brother Bob purchased the Mediapolis Lumber Co. from Clifford Rieke and went into the lumber business. Schrock Lumber Company has since been in continuous operation, serving Mediapolis and surrounding communities for more than 60 years.

Ed was known for his sense of humor, always at its best with friend Chuck Fedoris, his passions for hunting pheasant and quail with his dogs Pete, Luke, and Babe, fishing at Kentucky Lake in Tennessee with many local friends and relatives, cheering for the Iowa Hawkeyes, and spending time with family at Lake Okoboji and Lake Odessa. He was a member of the Iowa I-Club, Pheasants Forever, and Ducks Unlimited. Ed coached Little League in Mediapolis for many years, and he and Sally were lifelong supporters of youth sports in Mediapolis.

Survivors include his wife, Sally, two daughters, Carolyn (Dennis) Breder of Mediapolis and Kris (John) Koch of Charlotte, NC; one son, David (Kim) Schrock of Mount Vernon, Iowa; grandchildren Derek and Alex Breder, Molly Kasper, Courtney Page, Kaitlyn McMurray, Kourtney Dochterman, and Lauren and Lukas Schrock; five great-grandchildren; and five sisters, Ada Banwart, Lois Wiegand, Dorothy Schrock, Eleanor Knobloch, and Janet Beik.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Anna Schrock and Alma Langland, three brothers, John, Robert, and James, and one great grandson, Huxton McMurray.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 4 at 9 a.m. at Lunning Chapel in Burlington, followed by funeral services at 10:30 a.m. at Lunning. Burial will follow funeral

services at Kossuth Cemetery in Mediapolis. Following the burial service, a luncheon will be held at the Clover Creek Event Venue in Mediapolis.

In 1962, he and brother Bob purchased the Mediapolis Lumber Co. from Clifford Rieke and went into the lumber business. Schrock Lumber Company has since been in continuous operation, serving Mediapolis and surrounding communities for more than 60 years.Ed was known for his sense of humor, always at its best with friend Chuck Fedoris, his passions for hunting pheasant and quail with his dogs Pete, Luke, and Babe, fishing at Kentucky Lake in Tennessee with many local friends and relatives, cheering for the Iowa Hawkeyes, and spending time with family at Lake Okoboji and Lake Odessa. He was a member of the Iowa I-Club, Pheasants Forever, and Ducks Unlimited. Ed coached Little League in Mediapolis for many years, and he and Sally were lifelong supporters of youth sports in Mediapolis.Survivors include his wife, Sally, two daughters, Carolyn (Dennis) Breder of Mediapolis and Kris (John) Koch of Charlotte, NC; one son, David (Kim) Schrock of Mount Vernon, Iowa; grandchildren Derek and Alex Breder, Molly Kasper, Courtney Page, Kaitlyn McMurray, Kourtney Dochterman, and Lauren and Lukas Schrock; five great-grandchildren; and five sisters, Ada Banwart, Lois Wiegand, Dorothy Schrock, Eleanor Knobloch, and Janet Beik.He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Anna Schrock and Alma Langland, three brothers, John, Robert, and James, and one great grandson, Huxton McMurray.Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 4 at 9 a.m. at Lunning Chapel in Burlington, followed by funeral services at 10:30 a.m. at Lunning. Elizabeth Ann “Libby” Egley, 78, of Burlington, died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2023 at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born March 15, 1945 in Macomb, Ill., she was the daughter of Robert and Nora Callahan Melvin. She graduated from Northwestern High School and on July 5, 1980 she married Byron Egley in Burlington.

Libby worked for IRC, Sylvania and she retired from Exide Battery for 25 years until their closing.

She enjoyed gardening and fishing. She spent lots of time on the river and loved playing “Ship, Captain and Crew” Dice game.

Survivors include her husband, Byron of Burlington; three daughters Cheryl Appleget of Oskaloosa, Jackie Beall of Mount Sterling, Iowa, and Jolene Howe of Gilbert, Ariz.; grandchildren Sarah Appleget, Jenna Appleget, Andrew Appleget, Stephanie Munson, Brently Beall, Lacey Kircher, Madison Howell, Tyler Howell; 10 great grandchildren; two sisters Janet Melvin of St. Louis, Mo., and Kay Self of Macomb, Ill..

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother Roger and son-in-law Mike Appleget.

Per her wishes, cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel. There will be no services at this time. Inurnment will be in Burlington Memorial Park Mausoleum at a later date.

Marion M. Bachtell, 73, of West Burlington, died Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2023, at her home.

Born March 16, 1950, in Muscatine, she was the daughter of Francis C. "Ted" Sr. and Anna B. Cockrell. On Aug. 12, 1969, she married David Eugene Bachtell, they divorced in 1996.&nbsp;

She graduated from Burlington High School in 1968.

Marion worked for several years as a janitor for and retired from SCC Southeastern Community College.&nbsp; Following her retirement, she lovingly cared for her father in his later years until he passed away in 2008

Marion was a member of Civil Air Patrol for several years.&nbsp; Many years ago she helped to found the Commodore Club in Burlington and the Southeast Iowa Astronomy Club. She was always very interested in genealogy and astronomy. Her genealogy research added many generations to the family tree along with interesting facts and stories around those.&nbsp; She had an excellent talent for sewing and ceramic crafts.&nbsp; She loved Gnomes and had a nice collection of those.&nbsp; Her favorite Gnome was the one that said "Bite Me".&nbsp; She loved reading and listening to audio books.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Survivors include her son, Anthony (Carrie Smith) Bachtell of Havre, Mont.; two grandchildren, Amber Michelle and Michael Anthony Bachtell; brother, Francis C. "Ted" Cockrell, Jr. of Burlington; sister, Teresa A. "Teri" Cockrell of West Des Moines; three nephews, Johnathan (Carrie) Cockrell, Joseph Cockrell and Sean (Lynn) Cockrell; two nieces, Sarah (Mike) Palmer and Kerry (Mike) Robertson; and her long time friend and roommate, Debi Leaming Sherwood.

She was preceded in death by her parents, six aunts: Loretta Arlene Thompson, Marjorie Conklin, Jean Holden, Bessie Wertz, Mary Riser, Peggy Miller, one uncle, Paul Donavon Thompson and sister-in-law, Mary Cockrell, and several cousins.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Kenneth Ray Klenk, 84, of Burlington, died Monday, Sept. 18, 2023, at the Bickford Cottage in Burlington.

Born Dec. &nbsp;30, 1938, in Oakville, he was the son of Russell Ray and Floreine Cornelia Cover Klenk. On Oct. 12, 1957, he married Judith "Judy" &nbsp;Smith in Burlington.

He was a graduate of Huron High School class of 1957.

Kenny was a member of the Cattlemen and Pork Producers Associations. He attended the First Baptist Church in Mediapolis, and was baptized in the Cedar River at age 14. He coached little league, collected &nbsp;arrow heads, enjoyed 4 wheeling in the mountains, camping and many trips to Colorado. Kenny loved his grandkids, tinkering around, fixing anything if somebody needed help. He would do anything for anybody. Kenny was a life long farmer, and worked for Des Moines County Drainage District #7 for 50 years.&nbsp;

Survivors include wife, Judith "Judy" Klenk of Burlington; two sons, Kory (Rhonda) Klenk and Kenton (Jill) Klenk both of Mediapolis; daughter, Kaci (Scott) Van Dalen of Ft. Collins, Co.; &nbsp;son-in-law, Bryan Cox of Moravia; eleven grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and one on the way; brother, Richard Lee (Jean) Klenk of Burlington and sister, Janice Rose (Bill) Brown of New London.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Kelli, and one brother, Gary Klenk.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 25, 2023 at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street Burlington.

Andrea Nuku Burke, 45, of Burlington, died Sept. 12, 2023, at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington. &nbsp;Andrea was born July 23, 1978, in Iowa City, to Denise Jean Burke Daniel of East Moline, Ill., and the late Willie Howard Walker of Rock Island, Ill.&nbsp;

Andrea was a 1996 graduate of West Burlington High School and attended college at Southeastern Community College in West Burlington.&nbsp; Andrea was very proud to be a part of the original "Fun City Crew" when it opened for business in Dec. 2005 in Burlington.&nbsp; As a natural leader, Andrea earned a promotion to a supervisory position and held the title of Event Coordinator for the remainder of her twelve-year tenure with Great River Entertainment.&nbsp; 

In October 2017, Andrea became the Human Resources Administrator at USG in Mediapolis, where&nbsp;she "put the human in the resources" as she always said.&nbsp;Ask anyone who has worked with Andrea over the years, and they will tell you that she is unforgettable, when in fact, it was Andrea who&nbsp;remembered everyone's name, their family's names, when they married and had their babies.&nbsp; Andrea made it a point to genuinely find a way to help people in their personal and professional lives. Many of the recruits she took under her wing at Fun City and USG are thriving in their respective careers today.&nbsp;

Andrea was a natural nurturer - babies would just melt in her presence. "Bring me all the babies!" she'd say. Everyone, even complete strangers, were drawn to Andrea's natural ability to love and regularly found themselves pouring their heart out to her. So many of us will carry her love, kindness, and words of wisdom with us all the days of our lives.&nbsp;

She loved reading, gardening, crafting, and throwing the best parties for any occasion - because making people feel special was her specialty. She absolutely loved cheering on all of the kids at their sporting events and made it her mission to be a part of celebrating her friends and family, be it a graduation, wedding, or birthday. Whether she was cutting letters for banners, making tutus, or throwing candy from a parade - she always found a way to celebrate. Of all the things Andrea loved about life - being in the moment with her three children was undoubtedly her favorite.&nbsp;&nbsp;

One of Andrea's famous expressions is "I love you more". She made sure everyone knew she loved them, not more than they loved her but more than the toughest times they would go through, more than any argument they could ever have, more than any distance between them and any obstacle they would ever face.&nbsp; She fought to stay here with her loved ones as long as she could. We will only ever say "see you soon" instead of goodbye. May she rest peacefully in heaven until we meet again.&nbsp;&nbsp; Andrea requested that her family and friends come together to celebrate her life rather than mourn her death. We will honor her wishes with a celebration of life to be held in October (additional details will be released at a later date).

Janet Lee Wagg, 87, of Burlington, died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2023, at the Azria Health Prairie Ridge in Mediapolis.

Born May 8, 1936, in Muscatine, she was the daughter of Donald (Doc) and Virginia &nbsp;Hagens Martin. On Sept. 26, 1953, she married George Ivan Wagg in Muscatine. He passed on June 20, 2013.

She was a 1954 graduate of Muscatine High School.&nbsp;

Janet worked for 30 years in customer service for Hy-Vee #1, retiring in 1992.

She was member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed going to yard sales, baking, sewing and spending time on the river. She enjoyed hosting house parties and pinochle games. Most of all, Janet loved watching her grandkids, spending time with her family.

Survivors include her sons, Randy (Cindy) Wagg, and Ron (Kris) Wagg both of Mediapolis; four grandchildren, Ben (Amanda) Wagg, Jenny (Mark Hargrave) Wagg, Eli Wagg, and Caleb (Lynette) Wagg; eight great-grandchildren, Colton, James, Brock, Maycee, Georgie, Oggie, Abby and, Kadence; step-sister, Chris Martin of Muscatine; sister-in-law, Judy Martin of Cedar Falls and several nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

Larry Edsel Edgington, 73, of Mount Pleasant, formerly of New London, died Thursday, September 14, 2023 at The University of Iowa Hospitals, Iowa City.

He was born in Burlington on Sept. 30, 1949 to Edsel Burl and Carla Jean Kinsinger Edgington.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was a 1967 graduate of New London High School and graduated from Iowa Wesleyan College.&nbsp;&nbsp;

On Sept. 21, 2022, he married Tina June Jenkins at East Lake Park, Mount. Pleasant.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;He was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Mount Pleasant, and attended New London Christian Church.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Larry was a farmer, worked as a Transportation Dispatcher, and drove a school bus for Mount Pleasant School District.&nbsp;&nbsp;He enjoyed gardening, hunting, mushroom hunting and walking in the forest.&nbsp;&nbsp;He loved spending time with family and was an avid Chicago Bears fan.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Survivors include his wife; stepdaughter Amber Jenkins of Mount Pleasant; sons Shane of Windsor, Colorado, Christopher of Burlington, Brandon of Iowa City, Jacob (Katie) of Manchester, John of Mount Pleasant, and Jediah of Mount Pleasant; eight grandchildren, Patrick, Olivia, Madison, Miles, Jonah, Maren, Isla and Finnegan; one great-grandson Kaden; two sisters, Roma Edgington and Pam Wick, both of New London; two brothers, Wendell of Fort Madison and Ferlin of New London; aunts; and nieces and nephews.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Gary.

Visitation will begin at noon at Elliott Chapel, New London, on Sept. 29, 2023, with the family greeting friends from 5 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for Mount Pleasant High School FFA.
