John Karl Sandell, 73, of Burlington, died Thursday, August 25, 2022, at his home in Burlington.

Born August 28, 1948, in Burlington, Ia., he was the son of Karl Donald and Justine Walz Sandell. On August 16, 1969, he married Judy Radtke in Summit, Ill.&nbsp;

John graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1966. In 1970, he graduated from Creighton University in Omaha, Neb.

He was the President and CEO of Wholesale Distributors and Newsland.

John was a longtime member of Elks and Knights of Columbus and President of the Burlington Steam Boat Days in 1984. He was elected in 1990 to the Burlington City Council and from 1996 to 1998, he was the Burlington Mayor. He was a member of the Des Moines County Historical Society and was a history buff, once hosting a show on KBUR about the history of Burlington. John was a frequent caller to the KCPS Morning Show. He enjoyed his family's 38 summer trips to Door County, Wisconsin.

Survivors include his wife, Judy Sandell of Burlington; two sons, David John (Verity) Sandell of Skokie, Ill., and Stephen Thomas Sandell of Burlington; three grandchildren, Jeremiah, Joshua, Esme Sandell; sister, Marcia (Butch) Bright of Rock Falls, Ill; nephew, Timothy Hurd; and niece, Justina George.

He was preceded in death by his parents and infant sister.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. with the family to receive friends September 9, 2022, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.

The memorial service for Mr. Sandell will be 2 p.m. Friday, September 9, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home with Very Rev. Father Marty Goetz officiating.&nbsp; Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Tony R. Norton, 59, of Prescott Valley, Arizona, died August 16, 2022, in Wyoming. 

He was the son of Donald and Linda Norton born November 25, 1963, in Burlington, Iowa. 

Tony served in the Navy and went back to school later in life to be a trucker. 

He is survived by his wife, Sherry Thompson, one daughter, Bridget Luebbers, one son, Duston Norton; &nbsp;six grandchildren; &nbsp;and two sisters, Lin Weyrick and Tami Norton of Burlington, Iowa.

James Herbert (Jimmy) Johnson, 70, died August 22, 2022.&nbsp;&nbsp;

He was born May 16, 1952, in Burlington, Iowa, the middle child of Herbert F. Johnson and Anna Fern Gardner Johnson.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his father, Herb Johnson, mother, Fern Johnson, brother, Carl (Johnny) Johnson, ex-wife, Toni Harbin Johnson, and his beloved dog, ZigZag.&nbsp;

Jimmy lived most of his adult life in Las Vegas, where he made his living painting and remodeling homes. During that time, he developed a long list of loyal clients. He moved back to Burlington permanently in 2021 and was enjoying reconnecting with his Iowa family and life-long friends.&nbsp;

Jimmy was a competitive pool player and won numerous tournaments and awards. He enjoyed music, especially bluesy artists like BB King, Lynryd Skynyrd, Eric Clapton, and Santana, and would take in lounge shows and live music at every opportunity (of which there were many during the years he lived in Las Vegas). He was a movie buff, especially action and vampire movies, documentaries, and Antique Road Show. He loved watching NFL games and always supported the hometown team wherever he lived. He loved fishing, camping, and Keno. He had a creative side and was good at making things out of wood. His tree-root art was especially interesting.&nbsp;

Jimmy was a kind person, funny, smart, respectful, and a loyal friend. He will most definitely be missed.&nbsp;

He is survived by his three sisters; Ginger Lite, Maribeth (Ed) Taschner, Tina Johnson, and sister-in-law Rose (Johnny) Johnson; two nephews, Chris Weiler and Jeremy (Sue) Lite; two nieces, Jennifer Summers and Dawn Johnson, and numerous nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his father, Herb Johnson, mother, Fern Johnson, brother, Carl (Johnny) Johnson, ex-wife, Toni Harbin Johnson, and his beloved dog, ZigZag.&nbsp;

Mindy Judith Russell, 48, of Burlington, died August 20, 2022, at her home.&nbsp;

Born July 8, 1974, in Burlington, Iowa, she was the daughter of Robert and Betty Hart Underwood. She married Darryl John Carl Russell. They later divorced.&nbsp;

Betty worked at the Hope Haven Recycling Center. She really enjoyed her time there. She loved crafting, playing bingo, and spending time with family and friends, especially her grandson David.&nbsp;

Survivors include her son Rusty (Alexis) Russell of Burlington; grandson, David Gritton of Burlington, and one brother, Kenneth Davis.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Jennifer Hart.&nbsp;

The graveside memorial service and inurnment for Mindy will be 12 p.m. Friday, August 26 at Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery.&nbsp;

Austin Michael Steward, 25, of Burlington, died Wednesday, August 17, 2022, at his home.&nbsp;

Born October 23, 1996, in Burlington, he was the son of Katrina Steward and Aaron Lefler.&nbsp;

Austin worked as a bartender at Catfish Bend Casino for the past 4 years.&nbsp;&nbsp;

He was a loving, kindhearted person who loved his family and was a great friend. Austin was known for his love of animals and always had pets throughout his life. He truly had the biggest heart and was proud of all the obstacles he overcame in his short life.&nbsp;

He is survived by his mother Katrina Steward and his father Aaron Lefler both of Burlington; ten brothers and sisters; his maternal grandmother Tammy Steward and maternal grandfather Larry Knotts both of Burlington; maternal grandfather Jerry Sacora of Mt. Pleasant and paternal grandmother Patricia Guzman of Burlington; aunts, Randi Sacora and Michele Beard and numerous other nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.&nbsp;

He is preceded in death by his maternal great-grandmother Janet Scott, uncle Jeremy Lefler, and cousins.&nbsp;

Melvin “Mel” F. Bray, 67, of Burlington, died Monday, August 22, 2022, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House.&nbsp;

Born October 29, 1954 in La Harpe, Illinois, he was the son of Donald E. and Lillian G. (Brokaw) Bray. He graduated from La Harpe High School in 1973. He went to work for F. S. in Stronghurst, Illinois.&nbsp;

In 1978, he went to work for Schrader Trucking, running all 48 states and Eastern Canada. In 1987, he went to work for Raider Precast (IPC) where he had the proud honor of delivering the first beams for the Great River Bridge. He was currently driving for Ideal Ready Mix.&nbsp;

On June 10, 2000 he married Suzie Deuitch.&nbsp;

He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, a past member of Skiiowans, Aldo Leopold Chapter of Pheasants Forever and A.B.A.T.E. District 18.&nbsp;

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and riding his Harley, but most importantly loved his time spent with his grandkids.&nbsp; Survivors include his wife Suzie Bray of Burlington; three children, Emilee Deuitch (Arthur Snipes), Shayla Deuitch, and Andrew (Crystal) Deuitch all of Burlington; nine grandchildren, Kole Schwenker, Tanton Welborn, Kaleb Deuitch, Konstance Deuitch, Austyn Deuitch, Khloie Long, Kalin Long, Braylee Deuitch, Elias Deuitch; siblings, Phil Bray of Burlington, Nadine Allen of Donnellson, Iowa, Cheryl (Mike) Hopwood of Peoria, Illinois, Darrell (Sharon) Bray and Wayne (Susan) Bray both of La Harpe, Illinois and Marlene (Brad) Eskridge of Industry, Illinois; several nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

Born September 9, 1947, in Burlington, Iowa, she was the daughter of Edward and Helen Moehle. She married Robert Siefken January 26, 1968.&nbsp;

Survivors include her husband Robert; son Darrin (Janeen) Siefken of Tripoli, Ia.; two daughters Kimberly (Larry) Miller and Traci (Rick Dittmann) Siefken both of Burlington; three grandchildren Brett (Hannah) Miller of Stuart, Ia., Bailey Elizabeth Miller of Cedar Rapids, Ia. and Kylee (JT) Beal of Wellsville, Mo.; two great-grandsons Dean Lawrence Miller and Jameson Archer Beal; four brothers Robert (Ellen) Moehle, William Moehle, Raymond Moehle, Ed (Mollie) Moehle all of Mediapolis, Ia.; cousins, nieces, and nephews.&nbsp;

Sue Ann Moehle Siefken

Shirley L. Stevenson, 89, of Burlington died Saturday, August 20, 2022, at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center.&nbsp;

Born February 25, 1933, in Hopkins, Mo., she was the daughter of Dale and Doris Wilson Owens. She married Robert M. Stevenson on December 13, 1953, in Hopkins, Mo. He died June 24, 1978.&nbsp;

Over the years Shirley worked for Gray’s Insurance in Missouri, the Auditors office at the Des Moines County Courthouse and Martha Brown Clothing, Ltd.&nbsp;

Shirley attended Asbury United Methodist Church in Burlington and was a past president of the Ruth Circle. She was involved with the VFW in the 1970s and she enjoyed spending time with her family in Northwest Missouri every 4th of July.&nbsp;

Survivors include two daughters Karen Stevenson and Linda Hanger of Burlington; one son Kirby Stevenson of Moline, Ill.; three grandchildren Ashley Johnson of Sioux City, S.D., Carlee Swanson of Blandinsville, Ill. and Bryce Hanger of Raritan, Ill.; six great-grandchildren Carson, Kinsley, Kendall Julissa, Daniel and Jenna; sister Betty (Weldon) Dowden of Bartlesville, Okla.; and brother Terry (Melodee) Owens of Hopkins, Mo..&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and three brothers Donald Owens, Wayne Owens, and Larry Dale Owens.&nbsp; Per her wishes, cremation has been accorded and entrusted to Lunning Chapel.&nbsp;

Kelli Lea Lundgren, 44, of Burlington, died Monday, August 15, 2022, at her home.

Born March 16, 1978, in Burlington, she was the daughter of David Donald and Nancy Belle Taylor Nuebel.

She was an esthetician at her business Belle Aesthetics.

She was an incredibly caring, vibrant, and outgoing person. She had a love for everybody, never knew a stranger, and always knew how to make people smile. She was a true adventurer who loved to travel. She enjoyed gardening and watching for the hummingbirds. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family, especially her children.

Survivors include her father, David Nuebel; the father of her children, Tim Lundgren; three children, Dade Lundgren of Burlington, Emmalea (Gage) McElhinney of Morning Sun, Ia., and Taylor Lundgren of Burlington; one sister, Lynn Hardy of Burlington; one brother, Scott (Tina) Buxton of New London, Ia.; one half-brother, Donald Nuebel of Burlington; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, August 24, 2022, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.

Cremation will be entrusted to the Prugh Crematory following the visitation.

Sandy J. Marlette, 71, of Burlington, died Tuesday, August 16, 2022, at the University of Iowa Hospitals &amp; Clinics in Iowa City surrounded by her family.

Born May 4, 1951, in Centerville, Ia., she was the daughter of Virgil and Ethel Bartusek Plath. On May 25, 1974, she married Donald S. in Carthage, Ill. He preceded her in death on December 6, 2002.

Sandy graduated from Burlington High School in 1969.

She was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church. Sandy enjoyed word searches and puzzles. She liked going on walks and reading, especially her Bible, and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her son, Donald (Sarah) Marlette, Jr. of St. Cloud, Minn.; two daughters, Rhonda (Jon) Marlette of Nashua, Ia., and Sierra (Zach) Shaffer of Burlington; one step-daughter, Teresa (Ernie) Taylor of Burlington; three step-sons, Dennis, David, and Duane Marlette; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild on the way; brothers,&nbsp;Lester Plath of West Burlington, John Plath of West Burlington, and Randy Plath of Stronghurst, lll.; and&nbsp;sister,&nbsp;Carol Forester of Burlington.

Besides her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents and granddaughter, Lenora.

David Joseph Braun, 45, of Burlington, died Saturday, July 30, 2022, at his home.

Born July 28, 1977, in Burlington, Ia., he was the son of Joseph Lee and Gail Maria Smith Braun.&nbsp;

He was a graduate of Burlington High School.&nbsp;

David was currently running his own lawn care business in the Burlington Area.

David was very religious and attended church regularly. He enjoyed spending time outdoors fishing or having BBQs with his friends and family. He could be found playing darts or eating out with his friends. David will be remembered for always helping a friend when they were in need.&nbsp;

Survivors include his father, Joseph Lee Braun; girlfriend, Malisa Wingo; brothers, sisters, cousins, and his many friends.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his mother and brothers, Robert and John Timmerman.

The memorial service for Mr. Braun will be 11 a.m. Saturday, September 10, at Hope Community Church.&nbsp;Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery at a later date.

Sandra (Sandy) F. Davis, 90, died quietly on August 18, 2022, in Burlington, Iowa, surrounded by her&nbsp;family. Sandra was born January 23, 1932, the first child of Arthur M. Samuelson and Lillian Diemer&nbsp;Samuelson. 

Other than a few years while her husband Marvel was working on a large construction&nbsp;project in Oregon, she lived her entire life in and around Burlington.&nbsp; Sandra met her soul mate, Marvel, through the careful planning of both of their younger sisters. If it wasn’t love at first sight, it was very close. Sandra married Marvel Davis April 20, 1948, at her parent’s home in Burlington. They were looking forward to their 60th wedding anniversary when he passed away unexpectedly in 2006.&nbsp; As a young wife and mother, Sandra centered her life around raising her four children. An excellent self-taught cook, she always creatively stretched the food budget. She taught herself to can and grow vegetables, as well as to sew; these skills she also taught her children. She loved music, and she always&nbsp; had a record playing in the house, mostly the big bands of the 1940’s. Her children grew up listening and&nbsp;singing along to those old tunes. Sandra served as President of the Grimes School PTA during the time&nbsp;her children were in attendance. She also enjoyed being her sons’ Cub Scout leader. She especially&nbsp;enjoyed being a member of King’s Daughters and served for a time as the club’s president.&nbsp; Sandra had a unique zest for life, and her personality and intellect drew people to her. She had the&nbsp;uncanny ability to recognize adults when she met them, even those whom she had not seen since&nbsp;childhood. She worked at Clark’s Drug Store for many years, and once her children were grown, she&nbsp;embarked on a successful real estate career, taking great joy in helping her clients find the perfect home.&nbsp; With her genuine care for others and her commitment to her family and the community, it is no surprise&nbsp;that she was universally loved and respected. On at least two occasions Sandy gave her entire commission to help a young family get into a home. She loved the business but loved people even more.&nbsp; Sandra is survived by her two sisters, Sue Waligora (Ed) of Bettendorf, Ia.; Sharon Sherbondy of N.C.; Son Brian (Deb) Davis of Middleton, Wis.; Daughter Kathy (Rick) Little of Burlington; Son Mark&nbsp;(Bobbie) Davis of Melbourne, Fla.; her grandchildren: Travis (Dianne) Little of New London, Ia.; Teresa Good of Burlington, Ia.; Chali Davis of Derry, N.H.; Brian A. Born November 8, 1962, in Burlington, he was the son of Larry Laverne and Sandra Kay Gibbs Sandy. He married Renee Lynn Clark on Christmas in Las Vegas, Nev. From this union two sons were born, Garrett and Grant. They later divorced.

He was a graduate of West Burlington High School. James worked for Exide for over ten years and later as a custodian for SCC for many years.

James was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, flying drones, photography, and listening to music. He loved animals, especially his dog, Meka.

Survivors include his son, Grant Sandy; and brother, Jeffery Sandy, both of Burlington.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Garrett James Sandy, and his former wife, Renee Sandy.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Lisa loved music and singing and had a song for everything. She had a great sense of humor with a touch of sarcasm, and she never met a stranger.&nbsp;

She was devoted to her children and grandchildren and was Scarlette's favorite Grammy.&nbsp;

She is survived by her husband, Sean Spears of Roanoke, Vir.; one son, Uriah Spears of Charlotte, N.C.; two daughters, Sharayah Spears of Nashville, Tenn. and Saterra (Morgan) Spears of Roanoke, Vir.; two grandchildren, Scarlette Moon of Roanoke, Vir. and Keanu Liam of Charlotte, N.C.; one brother, Tom (Denise) Cluney of Hartsville, S.C.; and one sister, Nancy (Chris) Creagan of Nashville, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

Brent Wheeler, 62, of Perry, Ia., formerly of Burlington died Thursday, August 11, 2022, at home.

Born November 16, 1959, in Burlington, he was the son of Charles Wayne and Carol J. Purdum Wheeler.

He was a graduate of Burlington Community High School.&nbsp;

Brent was a man that loved his family. He respected and loved his mother, was a best friend to his sister, and was “the greatest uncle” ever according to his nieces.&nbsp; Referred to as "Be", his favorite activities included cards with his family, Marvel movies, and football. His family of 17 could each individually tell you their favorite activity and memory of time spent with Uncle Be.&nbsp;

Survivors include his mother, Carol J. Wheeler of Perry; brother, Jeff (Carol) Wheeler of Altoona; sister, Jackie McCord of Perry; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Wayne Wheeler, and brother, Lonny James Wheeler.

Frances Doreen Rector, 97, of Burlington, formerly of Mediapolis, died at 10:57 p.m. Saturday, August 13, 2022 at the Great River Klein Center in West Burlington.

Born December 23, 1924, in Melrose, Ia. she was the daughter of Tom and Annie Grogan Navin. On August 5, 1946, she married Ivan L. Rector in Des Moines Iowa. He died on November 9, 2019.

Doreen worked in different offices. The longest at A.S.C.S. office in Fairfield, Ia.

She was a member of Divine Mercy Parish SS Mary and Patrick Catholic Church in West Burlington. She enjoyed her family, music, playing cards, and crocheting.

Survivors include three sons, Dan (Cindy) Rector of Ankeny, Ia. Dean (Pat) Rector of Marion, Ia., and Joe (Kim) Rector of West Burlington; one daughter, Nancy (Jim) Davenport of Storm Lake, Ia.; nine grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she is preceded in death by three sisters, and one brother.

Suzanne C. Bloomer, 67, of Burlington, died Saturday, August 13, 2022, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born September 13, 1954, in Omaha, NE, she was the daughter of Kenneth P. and Nina M. Gibbs Johnson. On August 6, 1997, she married Gerald "Jerry" Lee Bloomer in Hot Springs, SD.&nbsp;

She was a psychology, sociology, and English teacher for the state of S.D. for 17 years and a prevention specialist on a South Dakota Reservation.

Suzanne was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in Burlington and the Phi Kappa Honor Society. She enjoyed art and fishing.

Survivors include her husband of 25 years, Gerald "Jerry" Lee Bloomer; daughter, Stephanie (Frank) Garneaux of Grisham, Ore.; two grandchildren, Kain and Daniel Garneaux; father, Kenneth P. On August 6, 1997, she married Gerald "Jerry" Lee Bloomer in Hot Springs, SD.&nbsp;She was a psychology, sociology, and English teacher for the state of S.D. for 17 years and a prevention specialist on a South Dakota Reservation.Suzanne was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in Burlington and the Phi Kappa Honor Society. She enjoyed art and fishing.Survivors include her husband of 25 years, Gerald "Jerry" Lee Bloomer; daughter, Stephanie (Frank) Garneaux of Grisham, Ore.; two grandchildren, Kain and Daniel Garneaux; father, Kenneth P. John Charles Mickey, 60, of Burlington died Wednesday, August 10, 2022 at his residence.&nbsp;

Born October 20, 1961, in Burlington, he was the son of Donald Duane and Mavis Claudette Schleiper Mickey.&nbsp;

John was a 1979 graduate of Union High School in Illinois and earned his associate degree from Southeastern Community College. He served in the United States Navy and the Navy Reserves.&nbsp;

On October 10, 1987, John married Joyce Marie Haight at West Burlington United Methodist Church.&nbsp;

John was a construction laborer and he loved golf and spending time with his children. He would tell stories of his time overseas &amp; in the Navy. With his family, he enjoyed watching football and playing left, right, and center with the nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

Survivors include his daughter Erin Elizabeth Mickey of West Burlington and son Tory Alexander Paige Mickey of Glade Hills, Va.; brother Donald Mickey of Burlington; sisters Judy Avery of Stronghurst, Ill., Gail Cale of Donnellson, Ia, Kelly Mickey of Gulfport, Ill. and several nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his parents Donald and Mavis.&nbsp; Cremation has been accorded and entrusted to Lunning Chapel.&nbsp;

Barbara S. Middelton, 83, of West Burlington, died Friday, August 12, 2022, at Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation in Burlington.&nbsp;

Born November 7, 1938, in Iowa City, Iowa, she was the daughter of Melvin Hugh and Eileen Ball Swink. She married Donald Middleton. He died December 31, 1996.&nbsp;

She worked for I.A.A.P., Campbell Chain, St. Francis Nursing Home, and finally for Schaffer Pen until her retirement in 2000.&nbsp;

Barb was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Iowa Hawkeyes fan. She was the BEST COOK EVER! She enjoyed card nights with her siblings and nieces and nephews, sewing; and cherished her time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.&nbsp;

She is survived by her five children; Cindy (Greg) Krogmeier of Mt. Pleasant, Laurie Benhart (Jeff Skow) and Lisa Buehner both of Burlington, Jim (Anne) Middleton of Leroy, Minnesota and Brenda (Moises) Rivera of Tenn.; her grandson Bryton Cross, whom she raised; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; her siblings, Kay Swink and Donnie (Donna) Swink both of Burlington, Paula (Cliff) Kilpatrick of Round Rock, Tex. and Luana (Tim) Nelson of Dallas, Tex.; special niece and nephew Mike and Jackie Swink and several nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers, John Swink and Charles Swink, one sister Diana Flactiff and son-in-law Gary Buehner.&nbsp;

A Celebration of Life will be held October 29th from 2-6 p.m. at the Burlington Gym. According to her wishes, cremation has been entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.&nbsp;

A memorial has been established for Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice.&nbsp;

Rick Lee Thompson, 67, of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, formerly of Burlington, Iowa, died May 25, 2022, at his residence.&nbsp;

Born November 23, 1954, in Fort Madison, Iowa, he was the son of Cloud H. “Jupe” and Joanne Florang Thompson.&nbsp;

He graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Business Administration on May 10, 2014, from Baker University, Overland Park, Kansas.&nbsp;He married Kathleen Malloy on June 5, 1976, in Burlington, Iowa.&nbsp;

Rick was the Vice President of Sales for the Burlington Basket Company from 1976-2000. From 2000-2012 He was the CEO of the company.&nbsp;

He was a member of the First Congregational Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and working out with weights. But most of all, he loved talking and laughing with family and friends.&nbsp;

He is survived by his wife Kathleen Thompson of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; three children, Erin (Jud) Fawcett of Burlington, Iowa, Sarah (Shelby) Temps of Marysville, Kansas, and Christopher (Natasha) Thompson of Tucson, Arizona; six grandsons Ross Fawcett, Noah Thompson, Liam Fawcett, Owen Fawcett, Sean Thompson, and Levi Temps and two brothers, David Thompson of Phoenix, Arizona and Jason Thompson of Marshall, Wisconsin.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Steven Thompson.&nbsp;

The memorial funeral service for Rick will be 10 a.m. Saturday, August 27th at First Congregational Church. Inurnment will follow in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, August 26th at Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends.&nbsp;

Rick Lee Thompson

Ronald Lee Casey, 80, of Oquawka, died Wednesday, August 10, 2022, at his home.

Born November 15, 1941, in Aurora, Ill., he was the son of Levi Thomas and June Eileen Meyer Casey. On February 6, 1963, he married Bonnie M. Lyerla in Aurora. Bonnie passed on September 26, 2013.

Ronald worked for Maytag for over 30 years until his retirement.&nbsp; He later owned and operated "Little Brother's Place" in Oquawka with his wife.

Ronnie was a member of the First Christian Church in Keithsburg, Ill. He volunteered for the Oquawka Fire Department driving the Ambulance. He loved to travel, fish, camp, and his pets. He was the kind of man that knew no strangers and would give the shirt off of his back to help anyone. He especially loved visiting with family and spending time with them. The yearly family reunion was very important to him and he would always volunteer to help in any way.

Survivors include two sons, Billy (Marie) Casey of Roscoe, Ill., and Matthew (Michelle) Casey of Dexter, Ia.; two daughters, Tammy (Mike) Knapp of Joy, Ill., and Shawna (Abe) Weeks of Keithsburg, Ill.; 10 grandchildren, Andy (Ashley), Bethany, Tim (Beth), Danielle (Nathaniel), Adam (Morgan), Nick (Kris), Kerstin, Alexandria, Jessica, and Kristine: 14 great-grandchildren; brother, Bud (Carol) Casey of Oquawka, Ill.; and sister-in-law, Wanda Casey of Oquawka, Ill.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Mary Lee Casey; three brothers Joseph, Larry, and Terry; two sisters Ramona (Richard) Wilson, and Gwen (Bill) Forrester.

Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. with the family to receive friends on Saturday, August 20 at First Christian Church in Keithsburg, Ill.

The funeral service for Mr. Casey will be 10 a.m. Saturday, August 20 at First Christian Church in Keithburg. Burial will be in Oquawka Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held at Mama's Place in Oquawka, Ill. following the burial.

Sharon Kay (Eckrich) Skerik, 83, of Coralville, Iowa, died on August 7th at the Bird House in Iowa City after a long illness. The beloved mother of Sarah and Joe, Sharon was predeceased by her parents, William and Lucille Eckrich of Iowa City, and her husband of 38 years, Joseph F. Skerik III of Burlington.&nbsp;

Born December 10, 1938, Sharon attended the old Coralville school, St. Mary’s school in Iowa City, and graduated from Iowa City City High School in 1956. In 1960, she graduated with a bachelor’s of science degree from the University of Iowa and practiced occupational therapy.&nbsp;

Skerik IV (Michelle), and two grandchildren, Joseph and Genevieve Skerik, of Tucson, Ariz.The family will&nbsp;receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, August 16, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.The Memorial Mass of the Resurrection for Mrs. Skerik will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 17, at Divine Mercy Parish-St. Paul's Catholic Church with Rev. James Flattery as the Celebrant.
