Kay Carol Messer, 75, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Tuesday, July 26, 2022, at the Southeast Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.

Kay was born January 21, 1947, in Mount Pleasant. She was the daughter of William Arthur and Anna Jane Enness McTee Sr. She graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in&nbsp; 1965. Kay earned an Associate’s degree from Southeastern Community College and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Western Illinois University. Kay furthered her studies at St. Ambrose University, working towards a master’s degree.

On February 14, 1993, at the Cottonwood United Methodist Church in rural Wayland, Kay was united in marriage to Dwight Edward Messer. Dwight preceded Kay in death on September 19, 2017.

Kay was employed at Sheaffer Pen Co. in Fort Madison and at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown. Kay had also worked for several nursing homes in the area. She worked full-time and one or more part-time jobs while going to school.

As a youth, she was a member of boys and girls 4-H, showing calves. Kay liked to sew and crochet. She loved to garden, tend to her flowers, and watch westerns. Kay was kept in constant companionship with her dachshund, Tanner.

Those thankful for sharing in Kay’s life include a daughter and her husband, Kim and Nathan Benz, and 2 grandsons – Remington and Caden Benz, all of Morning Sun; a sister, Virginia Starman of Burlington; a sister-in-law, Marilyn McTee of Mount Pleasant; a brother-in-law, Randy (Carrie Duncan) Messer of New London; a stepson, Timothy (Chris) Otterbeck-Messer of Cedar Rapids; a stepdaughter Lori Yancy of O’Fallon, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews and other members of her husband Dwight’s family.

In addition to her parents and husband, Kay is preceded in death by a brother, William McTee, Jr; a stepson, Scott Messer; and her beloved dachshund, Tanner.

Willis Reed Brown, 99, of Burlington, formerly of Middletown, died at 8:43 a.m. Saturday, August 6, 2022, at the OakView Nursing Home and Rehabilitation in Burlington.

Born July 8, 1923, in Des Moines County, Iowa, he was the son of Robert Reed and Wilma M. Mohnike Brown. On November 16, 1947, he married Beverly J. Gladman in Grace Methodist Church, Burlington.

He was a 1942 graduate of Burlington High School.

He was a U.S. Navy Veteran, serving during World War II from February 24, 1944, until May 4, 1946.

Willis had worked as a setup man at Champion Spark Plug for over 28 years and retired in 1985.

He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, fishing, playing cards, and cutting wood. He loved helping his family and friends whenever they needed him. He was a dedicated husband and father.

Survivors include wife, Beverly J. Brown of Middletown; one son, Tim (Sue) Brown of Cedar Rapids, Ia.; one daughter, Cheryl (Dennis) Clawson of Burlington; seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Todd Brown; one sister, Evelyn Laue; one grandson, Dawson Brown; and one nephew, Bob Laue.&nbsp;

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 10, 2022, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.

The memorial service for Willis will be 11 &nbsp;a.m. &nbsp;Wednesday, August 10, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home. The Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard will render full military honors. A time of food and fellowship will be held in the community room at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home following the service. Burial will be in South Walker Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for Southeast Iowa Hospice and the Wounded Warriors Project.

Jack Thomas Burroughs, 14 of Burlington died Saturday, August 6, 2022 as the result of a car accident.&nbsp;

Born July 12, 2008 he was the son of Chase Thomas and Sommer Elizabeth Moore Burroughs. He was baptized at St. Paul United Church of Christ in West Burlington.&nbsp;

Jack graduated from Edward Stone Middle School and was entering Burlington High School as a freshman.&nbsp;This summer Jack was working with his dad in construction. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time with his brothers and sisters and was like a third parent to them. He also enjoyed time spent with his friends, good buddy Claytin and especially his girlfriend, Anica. Jack enjoyed going to the Iowa State Fair every year since he was three years old. He was a very positive youth and cared for everybody. He loved being outdoors, riding 4-wheelers and riding bikes. He could even do a ‘wheely” down the driveway.&nbsp;

Survivors include his parents Chase and Sommer; siblings Jacob, Finley, Emrey, and Jace; maternal grandparents Debbie Moore of Burlington, Kelly and Sondra Moore of Lee’s Summit, Mo., paternal grandparents Thomas and Fran Burroughs of Burlington, great-grandfather Jimmy Moore of Clinton, Mo.; aunts Shelbie (James) Doty and Kelli (Joe) Sattler; cousins Whitney and Britney Doty, Brooke and Sam Sattler, Riley, Jacey, Caleb, Haley, and Brynley; great aunts, great uncles, cousins, step-aunts, step-uncles, and numerous friends.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his great grandparents Mark and Carolyn Nuss, Rosemary Moore, Jack and Helen Burroughs, and Kenneth and Mary Lou Wagner Sr.&nbsp;

The funeral service for Jack will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, August 12, at Lunning Chapel with Judy Ann Morse officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, August 11 at Lunning Chapel with the family receiving friends from 5 to 8 p.m.&nbsp;

Kelly Jean Jeffers, 58, of Burlington died Saturday, August 6, 2022 at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington,&nbsp;

Born May 29, 1964 in Burlington she was the daughter of Charles and Jean Enhorning. She attended Sunnyside Baptist church.&nbsp;

Kelly graduated from Burlington High School in 1983 and attended Bill Hill School of Cosmetology.&nbsp;

On December 21, 2001, Kelly married Billy Ray Jeffers in Burlington.&nbsp;

Kelly was a hairstylist and she was a taxi cab driver for A to Z in Burlington. She collected dolls and loved her dog, Angel. Kelly played bingo and she enjoyed going to races at 34 Raceway. She was a Dale Ernhardt Jr. fan.&nbsp;

Survivors include her husband; mother, Jean; sister, Michelle Bartels of Rushville, Ill., brother, Corey Enhorning of Burlington; two nephews Brandon Enhorning and Marty Scott; two nieces Kristina Scott and Trista Scott and aunt Beverly Felland of Burlington.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her grandparents and father; brother Michael David.&nbsp;

Per her wishes, cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.&nbsp;

There will be no services at this time. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.&nbsp;

Robert James Pratt, 25, of Burlington, died Wednesday, August 3, 2022.

Born May 2, 1997, in Burlington, IA, he was the son of Eugene and Dorothy K. Pratt Beliel.

Rob was a graduate of Burlington High School. While in high school he took many shop and welding classes and learned he had an affinity for welding.&nbsp;

Rob's first job was working&nbsp;for Taco Bell and later Domino's. He had&nbsp;changed his line of work and had been working as a Security Officer at the Fertilizer Plant in Wever.

He was a country kid and enjoyed fishing. He was an avid gamer and played&nbsp;many online games including World of Warcraft, and he collected many of the swords from the games.

Survivors include his parents, Eugene and Dorothy of Burlington; his siblings, Sara&nbsp;and Zachary Beliel of Burlington; and two uncles, Chris and&nbsp;Matt Pratt both of Burlington.

Robert was preceded in death by his grandparents, and by his sister, Kaitlyn Pratt.

The memorial service for Rob will be 1 p.m. Friday, August 12, at First Church of the Nazarene.

A memorial has been established for his family.

Robert Pratt

Doyle Hoyer&nbsp;passed away peacefully on August 6, 2022, in the company of his family.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was welcomed into eternity by his beloved wife, Bert, and countless family and friends gone before.&nbsp;&nbsp;Doyle touched the lives of so many with his gracious smile, extended hand, and contagious laugh.&nbsp;&nbsp;To say he will be missed is an understatement.

Doyle was born in Fort Madison, Iowa on April 1, 1936.&nbsp;&nbsp;Throughout his 86 years he enjoyed many jokes and tricks with family and friends for being born on April Fool’s Day!&nbsp;&nbsp;It was a source of fun and games coupled with some goodhearted laughter and teasing as we celebrated Doyle’s landmark birthday every year!&nbsp;&nbsp;His parents were Willis and Viola (Grossenkemper) Hoyer who enjoyed their entire lives in Fort Madison.&nbsp;&nbsp;Willis was an only child who worked as a laborer at Crandon Paper Mill on the riverfront.&nbsp;&nbsp;Viola was a homemaker who helped with alterations at Glasgow’s in her later years.&nbsp;&nbsp;Doyle cherished his little sister and only sibling, Connie (Hoyer) Barnes, founder of Fort Madison’s Under the Sun, who predeceased him several years ago. Doyle graduated from Catholic Central High School in Fort Madison.

Ever the musician, Doyle started the Doyle Hoyer Orchestra in high school, playing dances, weddings, and parties for the next twenty years!&nbsp;&nbsp;He played tenor sax, sang lead vocal, and always knew how to get the party started!&nbsp;&nbsp;Many couples throughout Southeast Iowa remember Doyle singing the first song on their wedding night!&nbsp;&nbsp;He played as many as three or four nights each week until he retired from performing in 1970.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The fairytale story of Doyle and Bert began in 1956.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was the leader of the band, and she was the sweetheart of the dance!&nbsp;&nbsp;It was love at first sight!&nbsp;&nbsp;Their engagement followed shortly thereafter on Christmas Eve night in Riverview Park.&nbsp;&nbsp;They married on June 29, 1957, and headed for Colorado with a handful of dollars in a 1954 Olds that drank oil.&nbsp;&nbsp;He kept an extra case of oil in the trunk to add as needed along the way.&nbsp;&nbsp;It was a grand time indeed.&nbsp;

Doyle and Bert made their home in Fort Madison in a small trailer parked in his parent’s backyard.&nbsp;&nbsp;Gary arrived in 1958, the first grandchild on either side of the families.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Soon they moved across the street to their first home where they remained for over 16 years.&nbsp;&nbsp;Jeanne (Hoyer) Deery appeared on the scene in 1961.&nbsp;&nbsp;Jan (Hoyer) Randolph joined in 1969.&nbsp;&nbsp;Life was good!

Doyle worked three jobs during the early years.&nbsp;&nbsp;He started at Glasgow’s Clothing Store just after high school, giving up a job as a butcher at Greenwald’s Grocery.&nbsp;&nbsp;When he was not playing in the band, he worked door-to-door selling mutual funds most evenings.&nbsp;&nbsp;In 1965, he purchased 20% of Glasgow’s from good friend Charley Zimmerman and acquired the remaining 80% in 1968.&nbsp;&nbsp;Doyle and Bert owned Glasgow’s for the next 33 years, with Jeanne and Jan joining them after college graduation. Glasgow’s was the center of his world and a mainstay of downtown Fort Madison.&nbsp;&nbsp;He carried the coveted brands of the day, including Johnny Carson, Hart Schaffner &amp; Marx, Jack Nicholas, Levi’s, Ralph Lauren Polo, Tommy Hilfiger, and countless others.&nbsp;&nbsp;He helped create a centralized buyer’s group for men’s retailers throughout the Midwest and sought out new markets as he began a women’s and men’s retail and wholesale fur coat business.&nbsp;&nbsp;Doyle loved his customers and his customers loved him!&nbsp;&nbsp;The best part of the business was that the whole family worked together hand in hand in all aspects of the retail clothing scene.&nbsp;&nbsp;Doyle’s friendly hello and easy demeanor were legendary, and Fort Madison remained for over 50 years the source of great suits, slacks, furs, and warm welcomes.&nbsp;&nbsp;Every customer would walk away convinced that they needed at least one extra tie!&nbsp;&nbsp;Doyle’s natural sales ability was used as an example in several of his dear friend Zig Ziglar’s many best-selling books about the art of selling to achieve success in business and life.&nbsp;

In 1977 Doyle and his pal Jim Baier purchased Iowa State Bank in Fort Madison. It was a business venture that started an incredible friendship and partnership for decades to come.&nbsp;&nbsp;Doyle and Jim soon sold Iowa State Bank and purchased Fort Madison Bank &amp; Trust Co. the very next day.&nbsp;&nbsp;Now known as Connection Bank, Doyle and Jim grew their banking business beyond the borders of Fort Madison, where the business now also operates in Burlington, Keokuk, and Montrose.&nbsp;&nbsp;Doyle and Jim remained loyal not only to each other but to their many customers and employees.&nbsp;&nbsp;Even in this day of contracts and fine print, Doyle and Jim never signed a partnership agreement and they never had an argument.&nbsp;&nbsp;The banking business for both families was founded on handshakes and mutual respect.&nbsp;&nbsp;Doyle lost his best friend Jim just ten months ago, but their joint legacy and partnership will continue forever.&nbsp;

Through the years, family has been the key to life in the Hoyer home.&nbsp;&nbsp;Strong family values have been the very fiber of day-to-day life.&nbsp;&nbsp;How rare it is to be able to have your parents as your best friends?&nbsp;&nbsp;Bert and Doyle enjoyed cheering on the Fighting Irish with Gary at Notre Dame and beamed with pride as Jeanne and Jan were both crowned Miss Iowa USA.&nbsp;&nbsp;The entire family traveled together to root for them at both national Miss USA pageants! Those bonds of strength through family drew all three of Doyle’s children back home to Fort Madison so that their children could experience the warmth, strength, and encouragement of a truly close and loving family. The example was set by Doyle and Bert and continues uninterrupted.&nbsp;

The highlight of Doyle’s life can be found in the smiles of his ten grandgirls!&nbsp;&nbsp;They have been his life and inspiration.&nbsp;&nbsp;He cherished every minute with each of them, always asking about their plans, their ambitions, and their boyfriends!&nbsp;&nbsp;He was so proud, so interested, and so very engaged in their many triumphs.&nbsp;&nbsp;The grandgirls were indescribably special to the very depth of his soul.&nbsp;&nbsp;Lynn and the two Brads were never in-laws, they were always family to Doyle.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

&nbsp;Doyle loved family vacation trips to the Ozarks, his Nauvoo cabin, and his boats that zipped around the mighty Mississippi.&nbsp;&nbsp;Those great adventures were the foundation of the countless stories of fun times.&nbsp;&nbsp;It did not matter where we found ourselves, as long as the family was together.&nbsp;

Doyle lost Bert to cancer in 2001 after a monumental battle.&nbsp;&nbsp;It was the end of a great love affair, a true partnership in business and life.&nbsp;&nbsp;While cancer can often destroy families, it became a source of strength for the Hoyer’s. Family bonds grew stronger guided by examples of love, faith in God, and deep caring for one another.&nbsp;&nbsp;So much of Bert’s life continued through Doyle and has been passed on to the grandgirls and their families.

Another great highlight of a life well-lived occurred when Doyle’s longtime friend Fr. Bob Spiegel arranged a visit to the Vatican.&nbsp;&nbsp;Doyle found himself and his great friend Joe Simmons holding the hand of Pope John Paul II in his private chapel. This moment was followed by an overnight stay in the Vatican’s Cardinal College residence that is typically reserved for traveling Cardinals and Bishops.&nbsp;&nbsp;Doyle was truly moved by the Holy Spirit as he felt the warmth and tranquility of Pope Saint John Paul the Great&nbsp;who was canonized&nbsp;to sainthood in 2014.&nbsp;&nbsp;His papal visit gave new hope and vitality in Doyle’s life shortly following the death of his beloved Bert.&nbsp;&nbsp;Throughout his life Doyle enjoyed the loyal friendship of numerous priests, particularly lifelong friends Fr. Bob Spiegel, Fr. Tom Spiegel, and Fr. John Spiegel.&nbsp;

Doyle was blessed with another great love in his life.&nbsp;&nbsp;Kay McGushin was welcomed into the family nearly twenty years ago.&nbsp;&nbsp;With many great travels and fun times together, she has been Doyle’s strength and steadfast companion.&nbsp;&nbsp;Our truly wonderful, caring, and loving Kay will always be part of the family. Kay has loved each of the grandgirls as her own and she has been a tremendous example of kindness, patience, and love for almost two decades.&nbsp;&nbsp;Doyle’s biggest and best smiles were watching Kay cut a rug on the dance floor even if he was just watching from the sidelines!&nbsp;

&nbsp;Doyle was ever-generous to his community, always eager to share his time, talents, and treasure.&nbsp;&nbsp;He has been a major benefactor to countless causes, either as a leader or anonymously from the sidelines.&nbsp;&nbsp;He served on countless boards and organizations, usually in a leadership position.&nbsp;&nbsp;For years he was involved with the Chamber, Community Club, Downtown Merchants, Fort Madison Economic Development, the local Catholic schools, Knights of Columbus, Jaycees, YMCA, RecPlex, and more recently the Marina and Pickleball court projects in Fort Madison.&nbsp;

&nbsp;In 1993, Doyle, his son Gary, and Randy Winegard started conversations about bringing a riverboat back to Fort Madison.&nbsp;&nbsp;Soon the Catfish Bend organization was seeking investors, with its grand opening in November 1994.&nbsp;&nbsp;Doyle became one of the founding members of Catfish Bend and has served on the Boards of Directors of Catfish Bend Casino, Great River Entertainment, Grand River Jackpot, Washington County Casino Resort, Elite Casino Resorts, and Riverside Casino &amp; Golf Resort.&nbsp;

Doyle also served as a board member, holding various officer positions over the years, for Iowa State Bank, Lee County Bank, Fort Madison Bank &amp; Trust Co., Connection Bank, Connection Insurance, and Fort Madison Financial Co.&nbsp;&nbsp;

&nbsp;Doyle is survived by his special friend and partner, Kay McGushin, together with his three children, Gary (Lynn) Hoyer, Jeanne (Brad) Hoyer Deery, Jan (Brad) Hoyer Randolph, grandgirls Dominique (Brad) Deery Jones, Bridget Deery (&amp; fiancé Matt DiVerde), Katherine Colby Hoyer,&nbsp;Hannah Grace Deery, Caroline&nbsp;“Carly” Hoyer (&amp; fiancé Michael Vaiarella), Alyse “Ali” Randolph, Eve Elyse Hoyer Deery, Kassidy Randolph, Gabriella Deery, and Natalie Randolph, and several nieces, nephews, and their families.&nbsp;&nbsp;Also surviving are honorary children and grandchildren Kelli (Ray) McGushin Civello, Kevin McGushin, Floria Tosca Kerekes, Tatum McGushin, Corrado McGushin Civello.&nbsp;&nbsp;Doyle is also survived by brother-in-law Ron Barnes and sisters-in-law Bernadette (Bud) Bremhorst Flesher, Janice Bremhorst, and Linda Bremhorst.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife, Bertha “Bert” Bremhorst Hoyer, sister Connie Hoyer Barnes, brothers-in-law Bernard Bremhorst and David Bremhorst, sister-in-law Sandra Bremhorst, and his honorary brothers Jim Baier and Leo Perry, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

&nbsp;Doyle made his mark on his family, his friends, and his community!&nbsp;&nbsp;It was a life well-lived filled with joy and love.&nbsp;&nbsp;Doyle contributed in countless ways.&nbsp;&nbsp;He paid attention to people and was a friend with an easy smile that made everyone feel important and valued.&nbsp;&nbsp;Life was always celebrated with laughter and fun.&nbsp;&nbsp;Hard work came naturally, and devotion to his faith was a constant ingredient in his daily life. Doyle always made time to show every employee, friend, relative, child, and grandchild that he loved them. He will forever be remembered for his kindness, empathy, and caring soul.&nbsp;&nbsp;If everyone whose life he touched joined together with a candle in hand, the brightness of his impact would rival the sun.

A visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 11, 2022, at Ss. Mary &amp; Joseph Church in Fort Madison. The funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 12, 2022, at Ss. Mary &amp; Joseph Church with Revs. Robert, Thomas &amp; John Spiegel officiating.  </figure>Doyle Hoyer&nbsp;passed away peacefully on August 6, 2022, in the company of his family.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was welcomed into eternity by his beloved wife, Bert, and countless family and friends gone before.&nbsp;&nbsp;Doyle touched the lives of so many with his gracious smile, extended hand, and contagious laugh.&nbsp;&nbsp;To say he will be missed is an understatement.Doyle was born in Fort Madison, Iowa on April 1, 1936.&nbsp;&nbsp;Throughout his 86 years he enjoyed many jokes and tricks with family and friends for being born on April Fool’s Day!&nbsp;&nbsp;It was a source of fun and games coupled with some goodhearted laughter and teasing as we celebrated Doyle’s landmark birthday every year!&nbsp;&nbsp;His parents were Willis and Viola (Grossenkemper) Hoyer who enjoyed their entire lives in Fort Madison.&nbsp;&nbsp;Willis was an only child who worked as a laborer at Crandon Paper Mill on the riverfront.&nbsp;&nbsp;Viola was a homemaker who helped with alterations at Glasgow’s in her later years.&nbsp;&nbsp;Doyle cherished his little sister and only sibling, Connie (Hoyer) Barnes, founder of Fort Madison’s Under the Sun, who predeceased him several years ago. Doyle graduated from Catholic Central High School in Fort Madison.Ever the musician, Doyle started the Doyle Hoyer Orchestra in high school, playing dances, weddings, and parties for the next twenty years!&nbsp;&nbsp;He played tenor sax, sang lead vocal, and always knew how to get the party started!&nbsp;&nbsp;Many couples throughout Southeast Iowa remember Doyle singing the first song on their wedding night!&nbsp;&nbsp;He played as many as three or four nights each week until he retired from performing in 1970.&nbsp;&nbsp;The fairytale story of Doyle and Bert began in 1956.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was the leader of the band, and she was the sweetheart of the dance!&nbsp;&nbsp;It was love at first sight!&nbsp;&nbsp;Their engagement followed shortly thereafter on Christmas Eve night in Riverview Park.&nbsp;&nbsp;They married on June 29, 1957, and headed for Colorado with a handful of dollars in a 1954 Olds that drank oil.&nbsp;&nbsp;He kept an extra case of oil in the trunk to add as needed along the way.&nbsp;&nbsp;It was a grand time indeed.&nbsp;Doyle and Bert made their home in Fort Madison in a small trailer parked in his parent’s backyard.&nbsp;&nbsp;Gary arrived in 1958, the first grandchild on either side of the families.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Soon they moved across the street to their first home where they remained for over 16 years.&nbsp;&nbsp;Jeanne (Hoyer) Deery appeared on the scene in 1961.&nbsp;&nbsp;Jan (Hoyer) Randolph joined in 1969.&nbsp;&nbsp;Life was good!Doyle worked three jobs during the early years.&nbsp;&nbsp;He started at Glasgow’s Clothing Store just after high school, giving up a job as a butcher at Greenwald’s Grocery.&nbsp;&nbsp;When he was not playing in the band, he worked door-to-door selling mutual funds most evenings.&nbsp;&nbsp;In 1965, he purchased 20% of Glasgow’s from good friend Charley Zimmerman and acquired the remaining 80% in 1968.&nbsp;&nbsp;Doyle and Bert owned Glasgow’s for the next 33 years, with Jeanne and Jan joining them after college graduation. Glasgow’s was the center of his world and a mainstay of downtown Fort Madison.&nbsp;&nbsp;He carried the coveted brands of the day, including Johnny Carson, Hart Schaffner &amp; Marx, Jack Nicholas, Levi’s, Ralph Lauren Polo, Tommy Hilfiger, and countless others.&nbsp;&nbsp;He helped create a centralized buyer’s group for men’s retailers throughout the Midwest and sought out new markets as he began a women’s and men’s retail and wholesale fur coat business.&nbsp;&nbsp;Doyle loved his customers and his customers loved him!&nbsp;&nbsp;The best part of the business was that the whole family worked together hand in hand in all aspects of the retail clothing scene.&nbsp;&nbsp;Doyle’s friendly hello and easy demeanor were legendary, and Fort Madison remained for over 50 years the source of great suits, slacks, furs, and warm welcomes.&nbsp;&nbsp;Every customer would walk away convinced that they needed at least one extra tie!&nbsp;&nbsp;Doyle’s natural sales ability was used as an example in several of his dear friend Zig Ziglar’s many best-selling books about the art of selling to achieve success in business and life.&nbsp;In 1977 Doyle and his pal Jim Baier purchased Iowa State Bank in Fort Madison. It was a business venture that started an incredible friendship and partnership for decades to come.&nbsp;&nbsp;Doyle and Jim soon sold Iowa State Bank and purchased Fort Madison Bank &amp; Trust Co. the very next day.&nbsp;&nbsp;Now known as Connection Bank, Doyle and Jim grew their banking business beyond the borders of Fort Madison, where the business now also operates in Burlington, Keokuk, and Montrose.&nbsp;&nbsp;Doyle and Jim remained loyal not only to each other but to their many customers and employees.&nbsp;&nbsp;Even in this day of contracts and fine print, Doyle and Jim never signed a partnership agreement and they never had an argument.&nbsp;&nbsp;The banking business for both families was founded on handshakes and mutual respect.&nbsp;&nbsp;Doyle lost his best friend Jim just ten months ago, but their joint legacy and partnership will continue forever.&nbsp;Through the years, family has been the key to life in the Hoyer home.&nbsp;&nbsp;Strong family values have been the very fiber of day-to-day life.&nbsp;&nbsp;How rare it is to be able to have your parents as your best friends?&nbsp;&nbsp;Bert and Doyle enjoyed cheering on the Fighting Irish with Gary at Notre Dame and beamed with pride as Jeanne and Jan were both crowned Miss Iowa USA.&nbsp;&nbsp;The entire family traveled together to root for them at both national Miss USA pageants! Those bonds of strength through family drew all three of Doyle’s children back home to Fort Madison so that their children could experience the warmth, strength, and encouragement of a truly close and loving family. Leonard Dale Shipley, 80, of Burlington, died Tuesday, August 2, 2022, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born July 18, 1942, in Keokuk County, Ia., he was the son of Joe "Bub" and Wilma Leathers Shipley.&nbsp;

Leonard was an avid businessman. He founded Shipley Construction in 1976. He owned and operated several different companies for over 40 years. He was a mentor to many young men who worked for him. He received many awards throughout the years for his hard work and dedication to his business. Everyone who knew him could say he has the golden touch.

Leonard was a hard-working man and took great pride in his children's and grandchildren's accomplishments. Some of his favorite past times were cooking and making a mess in the kitchen. he also enjoyed tending his vegetable garden, riding motorcycles, golfing, hunting on the farm, and spending time with his great-granddaughter, Peyton.&nbsp;

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Barbara of Burlington; three sons, Barry (Barbara) Shipley, Lyle Rosson, and Bryan (Gloria) Shipley of Burlington; step-son, Mark (Jenny) Jacobs of Bonita Springs, Fl.; three step-daughters, Kelly Stevenson of Ft. Madison, Chris (Dennis) Meller of Ft. Madison and Marley (James) Woodley of Manito, Ill.; 19 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister, Loretta Mewes of Burlington; and several nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Kenny Shipley and Richard Shipley, sister Shirley Davis, and son, Bradley Shipley.&nbsp;

Visitation will be from 12 to 8 p.m. with the family to receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, August 10, 2022, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.

The memorial service for Mr. Shipley will be 11 a.m. Thursday, August 11, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home with Pastor Dean Graber officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.&nbsp;

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House.&nbsp;

Marilyn M. Boecker, 84, of Burlington, died Thursday, August 3, 2022, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House.&nbsp;

Born on May 31, 1938, in Ft. Madison, she was the daughter of Albert and Mary Moeller. She married Roger M. Boecker on November 19, 1966, in Burlington. He died April 27, 2018.&nbsp;

Marilyn spent a number of years as a beautician before joining Case Company. She worked there for years on the production line before retiring.&nbsp;

She was of the Catholic faith and was a member of UAW #807. Marilyn loved flowers, gardening, shopping, going to auctions, and the Cubs.&nbsp;

Survivors include two sons, Lance (Mary) Boecker of Kansas City, Mo. and Travis (Jody) Boecker of Mediapolis; two grandchildren, Clare and Maggie Boecker of Kansas City, Mo.; three step-grandchildren, Brody Broders of Muscatine, Ia, Madyson Broders of New London, Ia. and Brady Broders of Wapello, Ia.; one step-great granddaughter, Emylia Broders; four brothers, Greg Moeller of Mt. Chad Davis Stamper, 42, of Burlington, died July 24, 2022, at his home.&nbsp;

Born June 3, 1980, in Galesburg, Illinois, he was the son of David Stamper and Brenda Hayburn Stamper.&nbsp;

He married Sara Powell on March 17, 2017. He worked for Federal-Mogul in production. &nbsp;Chad loved fishing, target shooting, and being outdoors.&nbsp;

Survivors include his wife Sara Stamper of Burlington; two children, Aaron Stamper and Astara Stamper both of Burlington; his parents, Brenda Stamper of Kirkwood, Illinois, and David and Jean Stamper of Burlington; one brother Greg Hayburn of Kirkwood, Illinois; one sister Hillary Hayes of Burlington; two step-sisters, Jenny Easton of Burlington and Lori (Jim) Parcel of Davenport and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Howard and Jean Stamper, and his maternal grandparents Lester and Marie Hayburn.&nbsp;

Mark "Squeek" Randolph Ewinger, 74, of Middletown, died Wednesday, August 3, 2022, at his home.

Born October 5, 1947, in Burlington, he was the son of Wes John Ewinger and Reva Irene Loofburrow. On February 3, 1968, he married Darlene at St. Joseph's Church in Fort Madison, Iowa.&nbsp;

Mark was a Burlington High School graduate, then attended SCC for a year.&nbsp;

Mark worked as a welder and fabricator for many companies including GE, Case, and Fruehauf in Fort Madison. He worked at HawkeyePedershaab in Mediapolis until his retirement.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Mark loved nature. He spent time outside working in the yard and camping. Mark loved trees and planting trees. He enjoyed bird watching, especially Baltimore Orioles, and had many feeders in his yard. Mark was a big fan of the Minnesota Vikings, Cubs Baseball, and Hawkeye sports. He liked taking spontaneous trips around the United States with his wife and his favorite place to visit, was the Great Lakes.

Survivors include wife, Darlene Ewinger of Middletown; two brothers, Craig (Evonne) Ewinger of West Burlington, and Kim (Jeanne) Ewinger of Bullhead City, Ariz.; sister, Renae (Karl "Lyle") Coleman of Sperry, Ia.;&nbsp; five nephews, Kyle, Kevin, Scott, Randy, and Terry; and six nieces, Kara, Stacey, Shelly, Stephany, Tammy, and Janeen.

Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his infant brother, Jody Michael Ewinger, and half-brother, Clif Ayers.&nbsp;

Steven Allen Lebeck, 75, of Burlington, died Wednesday, August 3, 2022, at his home.

Born April 28, 1947, in Burlington, he was the son of Francis Eugene "Corky" and Ellen May Ehret Lebeck.&nbsp;

He graduated from Burlington High School in 1965 and then attended Southeastern Community College.&nbsp;

He was a U.S. Navy Veteran, serving from August 1966 until March 1971 aboard the USS Terrell County (LST 1157). He spent three tours of duty in Vietnam in the Naval Advisory Group.&nbsp;

Steven retired from Champion Spark Plug Company in Burlington after over 40 years of employment.

He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, Moose, Eagles, Corvette Club, and Terrell County Association. Steven enjoyed reunions and get-togethers with his classmates and his Navy brothers. He was a long-time season ticket holder for the SCC Athletics.&nbsp;

Survivors include his sister, Nancy (Vern) Morrow of Burlington; brother, Francis&nbsp; "Gene" (Kathy) Lebeck, Jr. of Le Claire, Ia.; nephew, John Hunter of Burlington; two nieces, Diana Orwick of Independence, Mo. and Sara Gameon of Boise, Idaho; five great nieces and nephews; and one great-great niece.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, and one great nephew.

A Private Graveside Committal Service will be held in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.&nbsp;

Henry "Hank" Damien Kivlahan, 84, of Burlington, died Tuesday, August 2, 2022, at his home.

Born November 13, 1937, in Detroit, Mich., he was the son of Henry Damien and Margaret Helena Foley Kivlahan. On September 23, 1972, he married Patricia "Pat" Neff at St. John's in Burlington, Iowa. She has been by his side for 50 years.&nbsp;&nbsp;

He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving from November 28, 1961, until September 3, 1963.

He was a 1955 graduate of St. Joseph's High School, Farley Ia. He then received his Bachelor's in Chemistry from Loras College in Dubuque.

Henry worked for IAAP for five years. He owned and managed rental properties in Burlington.&nbsp;

Henry was a member of Divine Mercy Parish. He kept in contact with his classmates from Farley. No matter the weather, he loved taking hour-long walks with his wife. Henry was a people person. He loved to get others to tell their stories and talk about their family. He was a licensed pilot and often flew family members to destinations around the Midwest. Most of all, Henry treasured and adored everyone in his family.

Survivors include his wife, Pat of Burlington; daughter, Joanne Elizabeth (Matthew) Rhoden of Nashville, Tenn.; three sisters, Sr. Mary Kivlahan, O.S.F. of Dubuque, Joanne (Richard) Boudreau of La Crosse, Wis., and Alice (Robert) Stenander of Galesburg, Ill. and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, John Francis Kivlahan and Dr. James Jerome Kivlahan.&nbsp;

Matthew (Matt) O’Keefe, 54, of Chicago, Illinois, died unexpectedly April 22, 2022, due to an auto accident near Bonaparte, Iowa.&nbsp; 

Born August 6, 1967, he was the son of Thomas and Judy (nee Ittershagen) O’Keefe. &nbsp;Originally from Monroeville, New Jersey, the family moved to Burlington, Iowa in 1979.&nbsp; Matt graduated from Burlington Community High School in 1985 as valedictorian and went on to earn his B.S. in Computer Science at the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1997, graduating #1 in the College of Engineering.&nbsp; 

After graduating, he had a very successful career as a technologist, beginning his career at the start of the Internet boom.&nbsp; His first position was Senior Software Engineer for ZEFER/Neoglyphic.&nbsp; He went on to become Chief Technology Officer at Hyatt. &nbsp;He was most proud of his work on ERMA and Graphite, two open-source projects that were pioneers in real-time intelligence and complex event processing. &nbsp;In his last position, he worked as Senior Director of Architecture at Aetna (a CVS Health Company) where he led successful innovative teams using the latest cutting-edge technologies. 

Matt subsequently pursued his dream of opening a French Restaurant in Fairfield, Iowa, and owning/operating an organic farm.&nbsp; Matt shared his extensive knowledge, expertise, and insights by giving presentations to large audiences at tech and industry conferences and authored articles in industry publications.&nbsp; He brought the same boundless drive and enthusiasm to the restaurant project he had started in Fairfield.&nbsp;

While in high school Matt became competitive in cycling.&nbsp; As a teen he rose quickly to category two, winning numerous races including the challenging Snake Alley Criterium. He spent time at the Olympic Training&nbsp;Center in Colorado Springs where he narrowly missed making the Junior Worlds Team.&nbsp;

He maintained friendships throughout his life with his Burlington team The Cyclery and became involved in racing again as an adult in Chicago on the XXX/Athletico team which became Burnham racing. He won quite a few Cat 4 and 5 races including Downers Grove&nbsp;IL (2004) CAT 4 winner in the National Criterium Championship and won the Quad Cities (2004) Criterium CAT 4.&nbsp; He was once able to do his warmup ride for a cycling race while taking a work-related outage call on his phone, coding, and riding as he went!&nbsp; Matt was also proud to be a bike marshal for numerous Chicago marathons.&nbsp;

While in school, Matt taught himself bass guitar and joined a Burlington-based band called Nu World Mutants and later Barking Spiders, making several recordings and videos with the bands.&nbsp; Music has always been one of his main interests and he stayed in touch with his bandmates.&nbsp; 

He continued this interest while attending the University of Iowa where he met his wife, Lisa O’Keefe (nee Dowd).&nbsp; They moved to Chicago, married, and both shared a love for travel, fine dining, reading, and enjoying their cats and dogs.

Traveling for business and pleasure took Matt all over the world from Finland to Sardinia, from India to China, and many places in between.&nbsp; In the last year of his life, he was able to revisit some of his most beloved places: Paris (where he saw the Tour de France finale), San Miguel de Allende Mexico,&nbsp;and New Orleans. He loved taking photos on those trips, exploring other cultures, and trying local foods.&nbsp;&nbsp;He visited Ireland, the birthplace of his grandparents, several times, and was proud to honor them by obtaining Irish (dual) Citizenship in 2017.&nbsp; He kept in touch with family and his many friends on social media, often sharing photos of favorite dining experiences from his travels and some very unique photos of architecture in Chicago.&nbsp; In the past year, combining several of his interests, he was beginning to record drone videos set to his own experimental music.

Matt was an extraordinary person but very understated about his many achievements.&nbsp; He lived life to the fullest and was loved by friends and family for his sense of humor, genuine caring, unique personality, and gusto.&nbsp;

He was preceded in his death by his parents.&nbsp; Survivors include three brothers, Tom (Christine) O'Keefe, Jr. of Boykins, Va., Brian (Donna) O'Keefe of Swampscott, Mass., &nbsp;Chris (Ronda) O'Keefe of West Point, Ia., and sister, Marianne Kemerling of Peoria, Ill.&nbsp; He was married to Lisa O'Keefe who he met in college. Their marriage lasted over twenty years, but their friendship endured until he died.

Cremation has been entrusted to the Prugh Crematory.

Matt subsequently pursued his dream of opening a French Restaurant in Fairfield, Iowa, and owning/operating an organic farm.&nbsp; Matt shared his extensive knowledge, expertise, and insights by giving presentations to large audiences at tech and industry conferences and authored articles in industry publications.&nbsp; He brought the same boundless drive and enthusiasm to the restaurant project he had started in Fairfield.&nbsp;While in high school Matt became competitive in cycling.&nbsp; As a teen he rose quickly to category two, winning numerous races including the challenging Snake Alley Criterium. He spent time at the Olympic Training&nbsp;Center in Colorado Springs where he narrowly missed making the Junior Worlds Team.&nbsp;He maintained friendships throughout his life with his Burlington team The Cyclery and became involved in racing again as an adult in Chicago on the XXX/Athletico team which became Burnham racing. He won quite a few Cat 4 and 5 races including Downers Grove&nbsp;IL (2004) CAT 4 winner in the National Criterium Championship and won the Quad Cities (2004) Criterium CAT 4.&nbsp; He was once able to do his warmup ride for a cycling race while taking a work-related outage call on his phone, coding, and riding as he went!&nbsp; Matt was also proud to be a bike marshal for numerous Chicago marathons.&nbsp;While in school, Matt taught himself bass guitar and joined a Burlington-based band called Nu World Mutants and later Barking Spiders, making several recordings and videos with the bands.&nbsp; Music has always been one of his main interests and he stayed in touch with his bandmates.&nbsp; He continued this interest while attending the University of Iowa where he met his wife, Lisa O’Keefe (nee Dowd).&nbsp; They moved to Chicago, married, and both shared a love for travel, fine dining, reading, and enjoying their cats and dogs.Traveling for business and pleasure took Matt all over the world from Finland to Sardinia, from India to China, and many places in between.&nbsp; In the last year of his life, he was able to revisit some of his most beloved places: Paris (where he saw the Tour de France finale), San Miguel de Allende Mexico,&nbsp;and New Orleans. He loved taking photos on those trips, exploring other cultures, and trying local foods.&nbsp;&nbsp;He visited Ireland, the birthplace of his grandparents, several times, and was proud to honor them by obtaining Irish (dual) Citizenship in 2017.&nbsp; He kept in touch with family and his many friends on social media, often sharing photos of favorite dining experiences from his travels and some very unique photos of architecture in Chicago.&nbsp; In the past year, combining several of his interests, he was beginning to record drone videos set to his own experimental music.Matt was an extraordinary person but very understated about his many achievements.&nbsp; He lived life to the fullest and was loved by friends and family for his sense of humor, genuine caring, unique personality, and gusto.&nbsp;He was preceded in his death by his parents.&nbsp; Survivors include three brothers, Tom (Christine) O'Keefe, Jr. of Boykins, Va., Brian (Donna) O'Keefe of Swampscott, Mass., &nbsp;Chris (Ronda) O'Keefe of West Point, Ia., and sister, Marianne Kemerling of Peoria, Ill.&nbsp; He was married to Lisa O'Keefe who he met in college. Lois M. Duke, 92, of Wever, died Monday, July 25, 2022, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.&nbsp;

Born October 15, 1929, in Burlington, Iowa, she was the daughter of Leo and Helen (Owen) Martin. She married Monte Duke. They later divorced. She was previously married to Bryan Lewis and Russ Rawlings.&nbsp;

Lois worked for National Research, Gibby’s, Winegard, and more recently for Wal-Mart for 23 years until her retirement. 

She was a member of Divine Mercy Parish.&nbsp; She was a very giving person and was “Mom” to everyone. She loved attending picnics, family gatherings, and spending time with her grandkids. She was an avid reader and enjoyed mushroom hunting, dancing, and roller skating in her younger years and attending the activities of her kids, grandkids, and family members. She prayed the Rosary nightly and was devoted to her faith.&nbsp;

Survivors include her four children; Michael Lewis of Burlington, Lucinda “Cindy” Garrels of Wever, Rebecca “Becky” (Rick) Buford of Sherrard, Illinois, and Deanna Thele of Burlington; grandchildren, Lisa McPherson, Danny Thele, Michelle Lewis, Darren Brown, Christopher “Critter” Mcgiff-Brown and Shawn Brown; several great-grandchildren; several “bonus” children she raised as her own and numerous “bonus” grandchildren and great-grandchildren and three sister’s-in-law, Connie Martin, Bert Martin, and Nancy Martin.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers; Bud, Teno, Jim, Donnie, Tom, and Dale; two sisters Betty and Doris and son-in-law David Garrels.&nbsp;

A Celebration of life will be held at a later date at the Eagles Club #150, Burlington. A memorial has been established.&nbsp; According to Lois’s wishes, her body has been donated to the University of Iowa Deeded Body Program for medical research.&nbsp;

George J. Kozacik, 84, of West Burlington, Iowa, died Sunday, July 31, 2022, at his home.&nbsp; Born June 14, 1938, in East Chicago, Indiana, he was the son of Eleanor and George Kozacik. He was married to Mary Louise Farr for 27 years and had a son, Keith, and daughter, Laura. He later married Linda J. Hale in Burlington, Iowa on April 19, 1992.&nbsp; Dr. Kozacik retired from the AEA 16 in 2000 and previously held various roles as a teacher, reading consultant, and professor. He was a member of the ROTC throughout college, served in the Marines in 1956, and was stationed in Germany with the U.S. Army from 1962-1964. He graduated from Indiana University with a B.A. in English; completed an M.A. in Education from Clark College; and earned an M.A. in Teaching and a Ph.D. in Education from Indiana University.&nbsp; He was a lifetime Eagle’s Club member. He enjoyed various hobbies, including reading, gardening, fishing, beekeeping, and taxidermy. He was a patron of numerous arts and music organizations and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church choir in Burlington.&nbsp; Survivors include one son, Keith Kozacik (Penny Cahill) of Iowa City; one daughter, Laura Kozacik Graber (Aaron Couchman) of Lineville; one step-son Kevin McCarty (Paula McCarty) of Des Moines; two step-daughters, Samantha McCarty Hahn (Nate Hahn) of Louisville and Julie Pressner (John Pressner) of Dundee; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and nieces and nephews. George is also survived by his first wife, (Mother of Keith and Laura), Mary L. Kamm, of Salem, Iowa.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and sister, June K. Frazier.&nbsp; There will be no formal visitation. His body has been cremated and a memorial service will be scheduled for a future date.&nbsp; Memorial funds have been established for Iowa Food Bank and the Des Moines County Humane Society.&nbsp;

Antje Johns, 61, of West Burlington, died Friday, July 22, 2022, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House.&nbsp;

Born, February 26, 1961, I Rodheim v.d. Hohe West Germany, she was the daughter of Otto Karl and Wilfriede E. (Fromm) Trousil.&nbsp;

Antje graduated from West Burlington High School and Phoenix College. She married Michael Johns in November of 1984. They later divorced.&nbsp;

Antje was a Respiratory Care Therapist for 25 years at Phoenix General Hospital. She was of the Christian faith. You could often find her on the computer. Over the years she had lots of Bassett Hounds. She loved her dogs.&nbsp;

Survivors include her brother Hans (Deb) Trousil of West Burlington; Niece Andrea (Ronnie) Stewart of Burlington; nephews Brian (Jacki) Trousil of Chicago, Ill. and Brandon (Misty) Trousil of Memphis, Tenn.; seven great nieces and nephews Isaiah Trousil, Iliyah Moore, Elsie Trousil, Hayes Trousil, Bodhi Trousil, Leelan Trousil, and Johnathan Haines; special friends Stan and Sandy Ford of West Burlington.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.&nbsp; Per her wishes, cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.&nbsp;

Antje’s family will hold a graveside service at a later date.&nbsp; A memorial has been established for the Des Moines County Humane Society.&nbsp;

Susan Ellen Brenneman, 80, died from natural causes at 2:30 a.m. July 24, 2022.&nbsp; Born in Elkhart, Ind., April 11, 1942 to Alpheus D. and Lila Leah Hartman, she was the oldest of seven (Fern, Larry, David, Debra, with Richard and Mary preceding her in death).&nbsp; She married Curtis Brenneman in Hannibal, Mo., Nov. 12, 1960, who she met attending high school at Iowa Mennonite in Kalona. They were members of the West Burlington Christian Church.&nbsp; She enjoyed her family, spent time making treasured (and spectacular) greeting cards, and loved to talk with people.&nbsp; She was a homemaker throughout her life, selling Wheatonware and Avon successfully before starting work for Drs. Kent and McGee in 1977, then working at Family Practice, retiring in May 2014.&nbsp; She is survived by her husband, three sons (Douglas, Randall, Chad), seven grandchildren (Rivir, Cassidy, Drayke, Joel, Mycah, Marissa, Trey), and one great-granddaughter (Rayna), nieces, nephews, and cousins.&nbsp; A Celebration of Life service is Saturday, July 30 at 10:30 a.m. at the West Burlington Christian Church. A light meal and fellowship will follow.&nbsp;

Lorretta Vondean White, 90, of Burlington, died at 11:32 a.m. Friday, July 22, 2022, at the OakView Nursing Home and Rehabilitation in Burlington.

Born August 31, 1931, in Ottumwa, Ia., she was the daughter of Dean "Dion" and Anna Mae Wyott Manos. When her father died, her mother married Elmer Harnden who raised her since she was a child. On April 17, 1954, she married Donald Franklin White in Lancaster, Mo. He died on August 9, 2010.

Lorretta worked for Winegard Co. for 25 years.

She was a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). She enjoyed spending time with family and reading books about the Amish. She was also a member of the Women of the Moose, the Eagles, the VFW Auxilary, and the Red Hatters. She loved to shop and travel. Most of all, she loved her family, especially her grandkids and great-grandkids.

Survivors include one daughter, Sandra (Ed) Gerst of Burlington; one son, Alan Dean (Pam) White of Ottumwa, Ia.; one daughter-in-law, Diane Gilliland of Rock Island, Ill.; six grandchildren, Michael Gilliland of Rock Island, Ill., Gina (Dallas) Cox of Coal Valley, Ill, Brett (Leanna) White of Ottumwa, Ia., Courtney (Benoit) Igne of Mansfield, Ma., Austin (Kadi) White of Grimes, Ia., and Katie (Justin) Albright of Robins, Ia.; eight great-grandchildren, Arthur, Maurice and Leopold Igne, Gavin and Dakota Cox, Thisbe Albright, Braden Gilliland and Breelea White; and many nieces and nephews. Loretta also leaves behind many cherished friends.

Besides her husband, she is preceded in death by one son, Rick Gilliland, two brothers, and three sisters.

Visitation will be from 12 p.m. until 7 p.m. with the family to receive friends from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 26, 2022, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.

The funeral service for Lorretta will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 27, 2022, at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) with Reverend David J. Yonker and Reverend Brooke Anthony officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery following the service. A time of food and fellowship will be held in the First Christian Church Fellowship Hall following the burial.

A memorial has been established for First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).

Born March 9, 1938, in Washington, Ia., she was the daughter of Donald R. and Edna Mae Lamansky Crone.

Pauline worked as a graphic artist at Winegard for 19 years and she also worked as a copywriter.

Pauline was a member of First Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed art and was very artistic. Pauline also enjoyed gardening, reading, and volunteering at the library and hospital. She always loved taking care of the many cats she owned throughout the years.
