Daniel L. Wasson, 94, of West Memphis, Ark., formerly of Burlington, died Sunday, February 20, 2022, at The Springs of Broadway Nursing Home, West Memphis. Born April 7, 1927, he was the son of Charles Dewey and Katherine Elizabeth Loeffers Wasson. Daniel graduated from Burlington High School. He married Eileen H. Luth on June 3, 1951, in Des Moines County. Daniel worked for 7-Up for 49 years, retiring in 1992 as production manager. Survivors include his wife, Eileen; daughter, Carol Diane Waters of Des Moines; son, Michael Walter Wasson of West Memphis, Ark.; grandson, Sean Wasson of Horn Lake, Miss.; granddaughter, Katherine Blume of Des Moines; and brother, Charles “Chuck” Wasson of Burlington. Daniel was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers. Graveside funeral service and interment for Daniel will be Friday, March 4, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Aspen Grove Cemetery.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Richard Henry Williamson, 88, of Burlington died peacefully at his home on February 24, 2022, with his family at his side. He was born on February 15, 1934, in Burlington to Arlo and Florence Williamson. He was a 1952 graduate of Burlington High School. He married Holly Tuchel on March 16, 1958, in Burlington.

He served in the U.S. Air Force for 4 years, spending the last 2 years working on high-flying Reconnaissance Aircraft, RB-57Ds, and U-2s for the Strategic Air Command, "The Bad Ass Boys." He worked at Champion Spark Plug for 32 years, retiring in January 1991. He was on the Board of Directors of Three I Credit Union serving as president for 20 plus years and the Board of Directors of River Bend Credit Union for 14 years. He served on the Iowa Credit Union League Board for 12 years. The highlight of his credit union career was being involved in the creation of the Credit Union Auditing Procedure Manual that was used by the National Credit Union Association. He was an avid race fan and enjoyed snow skiing. He played fast-pitch softball when he was young and helped design and build the current softball field at Notre Dame. He was a member of the Eagles #150 for 70 years. He was a life-long member of Bethany Lutheran Church. His family was always number one. He was an accomplished world traveler and enjoyed spending time in Mazatlan, Mexico during winter for over 40 years.

He is survived by his wife Holly; two children, Gene (Carol) Williamson of Pella and Lori (Mark) Whalen of Burlington; five grandchildren, Dan (Kaitlyn) Whalen of Clive, Rachel Whalen of Burlington, Katie (Matt) Ness of Van Meter, Rick Williamson of Des Moines, and Anne (John) Dillon of Des Moines; five great-grandchildren, Jasmine Colin of Burlington, and Emmie, Eli, Mabel, and Nathan Ness of Van Meter; three sisters, Nancy Vaughan of Burlington, Karen Underhill of Apple Valley, MN, and Kathy (Robert) Cusick of Mexico, MO. Preceding him in death were his parents and one brother, Eugene.

Cremation has been entrusted to the Prugh Crematory.

Following his wishes, there will be&nbsp;no visitation or service.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for Bethany Lutheran Church.

Richard Williamson

Russell "Rusty" William Elliott II, 66, of Burlington, died at 3:45 p.m. Sunday, February 13, 2022, at his home.

Born July 7, 1955, in Clarinda, he was the son of Russell William and Nola Leona Huffer Elliott. On May 14, 1977, he married Mary Kay McQuay at Oak Street Baptist Church in Burlington.&nbsp;

He attended Burlington High School, graduating in 1973 He graduated from Southeastern Community College in West Burlington in 1975. He then attended Phillips University in Enid, Oklahoma.

Rusty served for the United States Army from 1977 until 2000 as a Chaplin. He served four terms in Korea and continued his service with the Army Nation Guard. Most recently, he was helping with Hope Haven.

Rusty was a member of First Christian Church in Burlington. He enjoyed cooking and loved building and collecting model cars, trucks, and planes. He had a yellow Chevy Luv, then made a matching model.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Kay Elliott of Burlington; one son, Russell William "Bill" (Jessica) Elliott, III; two grandchildren, Alex Elliot and Morrigan Elliott; two sisters, Sheryl Elliott of Shawnee, Kan., and Brenda (Mark) Maine of Springfield, Mo.; two nieces, Charla&nbsp; Peaslee, and Alissa Maine; one nephew, Steven-Mark Andrew (Elaine) Maine and mother-in-law, Mary McQuay of Burlington.

He was preceded in death by his parents.&nbsp;

Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. with the family to receive friends Thursday, March 3, 2022, at Prugh-Thielen Funeral Home.

Glenna M. Jacobs, 96, of Burlington, died at 8:58 p.m. Thursday, February 10, 2022, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born February 11, 1925, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Jason and Lillian Long Busch. On December 17, 1942, she married Merle E. Jacobs in Burlington. They were able to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary.&nbsp; He preceded her in death on December 12, 1993.

She graduated from Burlington High School in 1942.&nbsp;

After she graduated high school, she started working at McKesson &amp; Robbins in Burlington. When her husband was deployed in WWII, she did her part in the war by working for Rosie the Riveter in Van Nuys, CA. After the war was over, she became a stay-at-home mother and homemaker.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she sang in the church choir, taught Sunday school for 25 years and was a member of the Ruth Zartman Circle. Glenna enjoyed baking, cooking, sewing, fishing, working on puzzles, and reading.

Survivors include her daughter, Cheryl (Dale) Vickstrom of Burlington, three grandsons, Dr. Craig (Dr. Rebecca Schultz) Vickstrom of L'Anse, Mich., Trent Vickstrom of Burlington and Tyler Vickstrom of Hiawatha.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.

The family requests masks and social distancing&nbsp;during the services.&nbsp;

Family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m., Friday, February 25, 2022, at Prugh-Thielen Funeral Home.

Diane Kay Hobby Puente, 70, of Burlington, died Saturday, February 19, 2022, at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in Fort Madison. Born June 4, 1951, she was the daughter of Kenneth Ray and Hazel Lorene (Aldridge) Hobby. Diane was a correctional officer at Iowa State Penitentiary in Fort Madison for 26 years. She was a member of Flint Hills Church of the Nazarene. Diane was a collector of tea sets. She loved her church and her cats, Eli and Sammy, and spending time with her family. Survivors include sons Joe (Patricia) Puente of Norwalk, IA, Fred (Amanda) Puente of Stronghurst, Ill.; granddaughters Selena Puente of Austin, Texas; Mara Puente of Cedar Falls; Makayla Franklin of Norwalk; grandsons Joseph and Jacob Puente and Gavin Franklin of Norwalk; and Nick Schurbon of Maquoketa; sister Judy (Ron) Durbin of Muscatine; brothers Mike (Honey) Hobby of Burlington; Ronnie (Chrissy) Aldridge of Mayfield, Ky.; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Betty Louise Cook, 84, of Burlington died Tuesday, February 15, 2022, at her residence. Born August 16, 1937, in Rogers, Texas she was the daughter of Thomas Lee and Vera (Moss) Newsom. Betty graduated from Buckholt High School in Buckholt, Texas On November 8, 1953, she married Merlin “Mick” K. Wirt and they later divorced. On February 4, 1978, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa, she married Charles G. “Chuck” Cook. He preceded her in death on December 29, 2007. She was a member of Sperry United Methodist Church. Betty worked and retired from AGRI Grain Marketing after 40 years, then worked part time for the FSA office and Hope Haven where she helped the clients. She enjoyed gardening, dancing, playing cards including pitch, Phase 10 and Skip-Bo, craft shopping, the casino especially the penny slots, trips to Texas but Most of all spending time with her family and friends. Survivors include her son Michael (Deb) Wirt of Burlington, Iowa; three grandchildren, Nichole (Andrew) Mark of Argyle, Texas, Collin (Amanda) Wirt of Des Moines, Iowa, and Aaron (Mallory) Wirt of Burlington, Apryl (Chris) Johnson of Middletown; nine great grandchildren, Hudson, Easton, Presley, Charley, Graydon, Holden, Henna, Conor, and Scarlett; one sister-in-law, Alta Newsom of Dallas, Texas. Jeanette Marion Fisher, 98, of Burlington, died peacefully after a month battle with COVID at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House on Sunday, February 20, 2022. She was born January 16, 1924, in Burlington, Iowa the daughter of George Edwin and Stella Anna (Wagner) Sleater. She married Ray Fisher on February 15, 1947, at her parents’ home in Burlington. He died April 6, 2006. Jeanette worked as a secretary at the Iowa Soap Company for six years from 1941-1947. She then worked for 28 years as secretary for the Burlington Community School District, until her retirement in 1988. She was a lifelong member of Zion United Church of Christ and was a member of the Zion Quilters and the Christian Service Circle. She served six years on Consistory and was a member of the Archives and Memorial Committees. She was past president of Corse School PTA, past president of What-So-Ever and served on the board for King’s Daughters for over 23 years. She was a volunteer for R.S.V.P. and the Welcome Center and recently received the mayor’s award for her lifetime achievement with volunteer work. She was a Charter Member of P.E.O. Chapter OW. Jeanette enjoyed quilting, crocheting and needlepoint. She played in numerous bridge clubs and loved growing flowers in her yard. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ray, her daughter Gretchen Reilly and one sister Marjorie Ralston. She is survived by her three children; Nancy (David) Wenstrand of Columbia, Maryland, Robert (Donna) Fisher of Johnston, Iowa and Timothy (Jaclyn) Fisher of Denton, Texas; seven grandchildren, Patricia “Trish”, Douglas, Julie, Kyle, Kera, Brian and Kelly; great grandchildren, Caroline, Andrew, Rae, Levon, Kinley, Laiklyn, Landrick and Max; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ray, her daughter Gretchen Reilly and one sister Marjorie Ralston. The funeral service for Mrs. Fisher will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 26th at Lunning Chapel. The Rev. Brice Hughes will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Jeanette Fisher

Phillip Harold Schwartz, 89, of Burlington, died at 8:04 p.m. Friday, February 18, 2022, at the Klein Center in West Burlington.

Born March 27, 1932, in Burlington, he was the son of Carl Phillip and Myrtle Vera Atkinson Schwartz. On July 29, 1956, he married Dottie Lea Johnson in Salina, Kansas. She died October 11, 1985.

He was a 1951 graduate of Burlington High School.

Phil was a U.S. Air Force Veteran, serving during the Korean War as an Airman First Class. He received both a National Defense Service Medal and a Good Conduct Medal during his service.

He worked for Scheaffer Pen Company as a tool and die maker, and then as a Manufacturing Engineer for J.I. Case Company for twenty years.

Phil was a familiar face at Country Friends, with his dear friend Judy. He enjoyed woodworking, crafting, antiques, flower gardening, and spending time at the Auction Barn and at his cabin on the Mississippi River.

Survivors include three daughters, Debora Lea (David) Dixon of Burlington, Diana Lynn (Brett) Mayhugh of Burlington, and Donna Louise (Eric) Renteria of Burlington; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides his wife, Dottie, he was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Pearl Evelyn Butherus.

Visitation will be from noon until 7:00 p.m. with the family to receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 23, 2022, at Prugh's Chapel, 317 N. 4th St. in Burlington.

Full military honors will be rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 24, 2022 at Prugh's Chapel, 317 N. 4th St. in Burlington. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

Glenn Irvin Butlin, 66, of Burlington, died Wednesday, February 16, 2022, at his home.

Born May 8, 1955, in Highland Park, Ill., he was the son of Richard Butlin and Lucille Barns.&nbsp;

Glenn was a truck driver for many years.&nbsp; He later helped install heating and air units with his friend Rick.&nbsp;

He enjoyed motorcycles and collecting coins, guns and knives. He loved the river.&nbsp;

Survivors include his mother, Lucille Barns of Joplin, MO; uncle, Eugene Henson; special friends, Rick and Jammie Crawford of Burlington and his friends in Burlington. He was known as Uncle Glenn to Aimee, Rhian and Jed.

He was preceded in death by his father, grandfather, Clarence Striegel and a sister.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

A Celebration of his Life will be held at a later date.

Ronald H. Kahl, 90, of Burlington passed away on Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at his home.

Ron was born 1931 in Brooklyn, New York He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1949. During his 20 years of service, more than half of his stations were overseas, including Korea, Vietnam, Germany, Yugoslavia and Austria. He served 10 years in the Retired Reserves and received his 30 year retirement from President Nixon.

Ron was a Master Mason for over 50 years. He worked after the service as a prison guard and later as a D.O.D. policeman in New Jersey.

He was one of the founding fathers of the Society of Great River Poets. He edited thousands of poems and anthologies, plus hundreds of personal poems, pamphlets and works for other poets. Ron was also a past president of the Iowa Poetry Association. Ron wrote and helped produce a play in the 100 year old opera house in Raritan, IL. Two of his books are in President Clinton's Library collection.

He is survived by his brother Robert, of Florida; two sons, Rudy Kahl of South Carolina and Ron Kahl Jr. of Georgia; three daughters, Alice Kahl and Ann Taylor both of Georgia and Rebecca Stanlick of New Jersey; one granddaughter, Christine; and a tank load of nieces and nephews, grand and great nieces and nephews

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Alice; second wife, Corinne; parents, older sister and one infant son.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Ron will be laid to rest at Union Cemetery in Hackettstown, New Jersey.

Kenneth Wayne Rechkemmer, 88, of Burlington, died at 9:45 PM Sunday, February 13, 2022, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born June 18, 1933, in Des Moines County IA, he was the son of Alvin and Mabel Ruth Kramer Rechkemmer. On June 10, 1955, he married Doris Ann Riemann at Kingston Methodist Church.&nbsp;

He was a 1952 graduate of Oakville High School in Oakville.&nbsp;

He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving during the Korean War from May 15, 1953 until April 26, 1955.

Ken worked for Champion Spark Plug for 34 years before retirement.

He was of Methodist faith and a member of Mediapolis United Methodist Church. He was a member of the American Legion Post #243, Union Local No. 1237 and Ducks Unlimited. Ken enjoyed woodworking, fishing, hunting and gardening. He also enjoyed spending time with his wife, Doris Ann, at their cabin at Lake Odesa. He loved baseball, playing on slow pitch teams and cheering his grandchildren on. He was also an avid fan of the New York Yankees, Hawkeye, and Green Bay Packers fan.&nbsp;

Survivors include his wife, Doris Ann of Burlington, IA; one daughter, Janice (Dick) Burch of Wever, IA; one son, Kevin (Jane) Rechkemmer of West Burlington;&nbsp; three grandchildren, Brett (Kara) Burch, Will (Danita) Rechkemmer, and Alison Rechkemmer; two great-grandchildren, Maris Burch and Ripken Burch; one brother, James Rechkemmer of Des Moines; and one sister, Cora Ater of Burlington.

He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Melvin, Russell, Elwood and Carl "Butch".

Antoinette “Toni” Kerr, age 98, of Burlington, passed away on Friday, February 11, 2022 at the Klein Center in West Burlington.

Antoinette Mathilde Frenzer was born on January 12, 1924 in Werne, Germany, the &nbsp;oldest daughter of Anna Klara (Kroll) and Joseph T. Frenzer. The family came to America in 1927 with sisters, Charlotte (Peterson) and Clara (Waltrip). Later, twin sisters Rose Mary (Moss) and Ruth Mary (Smith) were born.

Toni went to school in Burlington and obtained her hairdressers license in 1942. She worked at a few different beauty shops, but ended her career at West Hill Beauty Shop. Later she did some factory work for IRC. Toni loved gardening, baking and anything that had to do with visiting family and friends. She also owned and loved dogs, including a Maltese named Muffy and three dachshunds all named “Schnitzel.”

Toni married Leamon Kerr in St. Patrick’s Rectory on October 17, 1943. Leamon worked at Riepe-Peterson’s before ending his working career at J I Case Co. Lee preceded Toni in death on October 15, 1984. All of her sisters also preceded her in death.

Lee and Toni had one daughter, Sally Anne (Herbert) Price; two adopted grandchildren, Loren Joseph (Tennille) and AnnaLea Noel (Walker); and six great-grandchildren: Blaze, Braddock, Kyha, Keizer, Harper Ann and Tod Herbert (Walker).

She attended University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, IA graduating in 1966. Marjorie also attended Dominican University in River Forest, Ill., graduating in 1970. She earned her MA in Library Science. On January 1, 1982, she married Richard L. Gibson in Glen Ellyn, Ill. Marjorie was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Danville. Marjorie served as the district librarian for all the schools in the MPCSD. She worked as a librarian/media center director in several local high schools for 13 years. Marjorie was elected clerk of district court in Des Moines County from 1981 to 1985. She and Richard headed up a U.S. office for printing/publishing mission near Brussels, Belgium. In her spare time, Marjorie volunteered at the Danville library and the Anne Frank Pen-Pal Museum. She enjoyed making books and information accessible to students and teachers. Marjorie enjoyed research in genealogy and her family history. She and her husband traveled extensively to all 50 states, 67 countries and all seven continents. Survivors include her husband, Richard; three step-children; three step-grandchildren; sister Marleen Beck and sister-in-law Virginia Beck both of Danville, and two nieces and two nephews. Marjorie Gibson

Clara M. Rayburn, 86, of Sperry, died Friday, February 11, 2022 at Savannah Heights in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. Born February 15, 1935 in Burlington, Iowa she was the daughter of Ray and Mabel A. (Robbins) Stamper. She married Vernard L. “Bud” Rayburn. He died January 17, 2014. Clara worked in supply for Burlington Medical Center until her retirement. After retirement she worked in the kitchen at Burlington High School. She enjoyed time spent with her grandkids. Survivors include her five children; Betty M. (Mark) Thomson of Sperry, Sadie Jean Pindell of Burlington, Mary Joyce Johnson of Burlington, Roy Lee Charles (Sharon) Rayburn of LaHarpe, Illinois and Regina Kay Magnuson of Burlington; nine grandchildren; several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren and one sister Twila (Bob) Siner of Florida. Born February 15, 1935 in Burlington, Iowa she was the daughter of Ray and Mabel A. (Robbins) Stamper. She married Vernard L. “Bud” Rayburn. He died January 17, 2014. Clara worked in supply for Burlington Medical Center until her retirement. After retirement she worked in the kitchen at Burlington High School. She enjoyed time spent with her grandkids. Survivors include her five children; Betty M. (Mark) Thomson of Sperry, Sadie Jean Pindell of Burlington, Mary Joyce Johnson of Burlington, Roy Lee Charles (Sharon) Rayburn of LaHarpe, Illinois and Regina Kay Magnuson of Burlington; nine grandchildren; several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren and one sister Twila (Bob) Siner of Florida. Michael A. Lee Jr., 45, of Burlington, died Thursday, February 10, 2022 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics after battling brain cancer since May of 2021. Born October 15, 1976 in Burlington, Iowa he was the son of Michael Sr. and Rosella (Myers) Lee. He married Heather Ring in May of 2004. Together they had two children Cheyenne and Kenneth. They later divorced but continued to be friendly for the sake of their children. Once Michael was diagnosed, Heather has continued to be very supportive towards he and their children. Michael was a truck driver for 20 years and enjoyed driving party buses and limos for Executive Transportation in previous years. Michael loved the river and fishing became his passion. He enjoyed attending races at 34 Raceway and recently attended his first NASCAR race in Phoenix with his brother. Together they shared a love for racing and even raced Figure 8 Derby cars together. Michael had a huge heart! He cherished his time with his kids and loved his nieces and nephews as if they were his own. He was a “Good Ol’ Country Boy” and enjoyed listening to country music. Marilyn Ann Nelson, 97, of Burlington, died on Friday, February 11, 2022, at the Klein Center in West Burlington. Marilyn's family would like to express their gratitude to Azria Health Prairie Ridge and the Klein Center for the wonderful care they provided to Marilyn.

Born August 4, 1924, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Edwin and Catherine Muckensturm Miller. She married the love of her life, Dr. Milford D. Nelson in Corsicana, TX, on July 24, 1943, where he was in flight training in Eagle Pass, TX. He preceded her in death on October 8, 2005.&nbsp; They were married 63 wonderful years.

Mrs. Nelson was a 1942 graduate of Burlington High School.

She was a lifetime member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). She loved the time traveling with her husband to his fighter pilot reunions and traveling with her husband to Florida and Arizona for 20 years in the winter. She loved the time she spent with her family and their families and also enjoyed caring for her Schnauzer dogs.

She is survived by her four children, David (Pat) Nelson, Cynthia (Dr. Larry) Taylor, JoAnn (Jon) Wynn, and Mary Beth (Arlen) Shofe, all of Burlington; seven grandchildren, Jeffrey (Dianna) Taylor, Jennifer (Dr. Troy) Stafford, Eric (Jackie) Shofe, Andrea (Jon) Schmidt, Hillary (Mark) Hansen, Haley Oppenheimer, and Megan (Andrew) Spring; 14 great-grandchildren, Mia, Eli, Sophia, Joey, John, Brett, Samantha, Alyvia, Brooklyn, Owen, Silas, Grey, Alaina and Jack; one great-great-grandchild, Brooklyn; one sister, Judith Hanks of Burlington; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one grandson, Brian Shofe, and one brother, Merle Miller.

As per Marilyn's request cremation has been entrusted to the Prugh Crematory.

The Private Graveside Committal and Inurnment for Mrs. Nelson will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery at a later date.

Sondra Marie Astfalk, 77, of West Burlington, died at 5:30 PM Saturday, February 12, 2022, at the University of Iowa Hospitals &amp; Clinics in Iowa City.

Born June 3, 1944, in Ottumwa, IA, she was the daughter of Oris Reed and Velma Marie Randolph Dillener. On December 17, 1966, she married William Milton Astfalk in St. Paul's Catholic Church.&nbsp;

Sondra loved working with children and owned her own Preschool for eight years. She also enjoyed helping her friend at Vickie's Country Thyme for 21 years.&nbsp;

Sondra read her Bible every day. She enjoyed antiques and liked the outdoors, especially watching the birds and squirrels. Her favorite role was being a grandmother making sure they had a handwritten letter every Friday. Sondra will be remembered her friendly smile, selfless, compassionate and always putting others before herself.

Survivors include her husband, William Astfalk of West Burlington; two daughters, Christina (Chad) Hardy of Richfield, MN, and Suzanne Reed Todd of West Burlington; five grandchildren, Taylor (Jack Barta) Hardy, Emma Todd, Maggie Hardy, Rylie Todd, and Ethan Todd.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Lance Dillener.

Murray L. Ricketts, age 70, of Burlington, Iowa passed away at 12:45 a.m. on January 7, 2022, at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington. Murray was born on April 10, 1951, in Burlington and is the son of Charles and Charmian Randall Ricketts. He was raised in Oquawka for his early life and moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan at the age of 12 in 1963. Murray played football and ran track while in High School and graduated from Central High School in Grand Rapids, Mich. in 1969.&nbsp; He then attended Grand Rapids Junior College where he received an associate degree, and then went on to Michigan State for a time and later graduated from Western Illinois University where he received his bachelor's degree in education.&nbsp; Murray began teaching at Koblerville Elementary School in Saipan where he taught school and coached track for ten years. While teaching he met and married Olivia Ouhe Qian Ricketts. &nbsp; Murray was a huge car guy, and his first car was 1960s Chevrolet Biscayne.&nbsp; He is survived by his son and daughter, Aaron Ricketts of Burlington and Jessica Ricketts also of Burlington; his brother Brian Ricketts and Adelaida of Houston, Texas. Also surviving him is his niece Jennifer Monge of Houston, Texas. A number of other relatives also are surviving. He is preceded in his death by his parents. Zephaniah Johnson was called home to heaven on February 2, 2022, at the age of 14 at the University of Iowa Stead Family Child Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa. Zephaniah is survived by her parents, Shawn and Eugina Johnson, Her Sisters, Paxtyn Johnson, Phoebe Johnson, Cora Johnson, Rosalind Johnson, and brothers Jaydin Johnson and Quinn Johnson. Her Grandparents David and Margaret Selmon, John and Victoria Dixon, and Gene and Paula Benally. Zephaniah has many uncles and aunts. cousins, a cat named Sosa, and a dog named Winston. Zephaniah was preceded in death by her uncle Bryan Benally. Zephaniah was born on Tuesday, April 3, 2007, at Fort Madison Community Hospital to Shawn and Eugina Johnson. She was a ninth grader at Burlington Community School. She was in the marching band where she played the Trumpet. She was a club M Mentor. Zephaniah passed her driving exam and filled out applications for Fareway and Panera. She adopted a cat, she named Sosa on December 7th, 2021. Zephaniah was a beacon of joy and laughter; she had the gift of Joyfulness. Wherever she went her spirit could light up a room. She never failed to bring a smile to your face. Her personality radiated compassion and the perfect balance of sincerity and humor. Zephy enjoyed hanging out with her friends, Cameron, Carlecia, Tony, Caroline, Anabelle, Audrey, Marley, and her girlfriend Lanee, who she said made her life 10 x better. Zephy’s ultimate best friends for life were her sisters Paxtyn and Phoebe. Her grandmother Margaret was her secret keeper and advice giver. Zephy always liked to be organized and clean which was inherited by her daddy; she loved the smell of teakwood and Downy. She enjoyed her momma's cooking and hated cooked tomatoes. She was not religious but very spiritual. Her favorite color was baby pink, and she liked the St. Louis Cardinals, Iowa, and adopted a fondness for her momma’s team, Notre Dame. She used her imagination to create worlds in Minecraft; she loved her videogames. She was new to skateboarding and loved Vans. She listened to K-pop all her life. Her laugh and jokes were the best in the whole world. Her last gift to the world was the donations of her organs to others. She will forever and always be missed, deeply by those who knew her. Delbert Walker

Twyla F. Royer, 90, of West Burlington, died at 5:00 PM Tuesday, February 8, 2022, at the Klein Center in West Burlington. Twyla's family appreciates the kind and compassionate care she received there.&nbsp;

Born February 6, 1932, in Mount Pleasant, she was the daughter of William "Ralph" F. and Madia (Widmer) Hilbrant. On February 15, 1958, she married Rev. John A. Royer at Green Mound Church of God in Trenton, Iowa. He passed away on September 9, 2010.

She graduated from Mount Pleasant High School and later Findlay College.

Twyla taught elementary school until she had children and was very proud to be a pastor's wife.

She loved helping her husband, John, with his many church responsibilities over the course of his career. They led many Open Bible Churches, mostly in southeast Iowa and later at the Rome Baptist Church in Rome, Iowa. Twyla was a huge prayer warrior, always praying for anyone who needed it and avidly read her bible. She enjoyed bird watching and feeding the birds. Survivors include her three sons, Jeff (Kim) Royer of Danville, Rev. Dr. Marc (Dr. Marceil) Royer of Granger, IN, John L. (Julie) Royer of Durham, NC; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; brother, Richard (Helen) Hilbrant of Muscatine; brother in law, Joe (Carol) Royer of Burlington; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Robert Hillbrant and sister-in-law Jean Hilbrant.

Family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM Sunday, February 14,&nbsp;2022 at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.

The funeral service for Mrs. Royer will be 2:00 PM Sunday, February 13, 2022, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home with Pastors Marc and Mitch Royer officiating. Burial will be 10:00 AM Monday, February 13, 2022 at Aspen Grove Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established for the Christian Resource Group for the John and Twyla Royer Memorial Fund.

Twyla's family appreciates the kind and compassionate care she received there.&nbsp;Born February 6, 1932, in Mount Pleasant, she was the daughter of William "Ralph" F. and Madia (Widmer) Hilbrant. On February 15, 1958, she married Rev. John A. Royer at Green Mound Church of God in Trenton, Iowa. He passed away on September 9, 2010.She graduated from Mount Pleasant High School and later Findlay College.Twyla taught elementary school until she had children and was very proud to be a pastor's wife.She loved helping her husband, John, with his many church responsibilities over the course of his career. They led many Open Bible Churches, mostly in southeast Iowa and later at the Rome Baptist Church in Rome, Iowa. Barbara A. Taylor, 83, of West Burlington, died at 11:55 PM Wednesday, February 9, 2022, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born February 15, 1938, in Schuyler county, IL, she was the daughter of Clarence and Gladys Morris Billingsley . On November 22, 1976, she married Richard L. Taylor in West Burlington. He died on March 30, 2021.

Barbara graduated in 1956 from Rushville High School.&nbsp;

In her younger years, Barbara worked in accounting services for 20 years. She also worked as a real estate broker associate for 17 years. She owned a few companies including, Tiffany's Bakery for seven years, and Moms and Babes at the mall for five years.&nbsp;

Barbara was a member of the West Burlington Christian Church and West Burlington United Methodist. She enjoyed camping, travel, singing gospel and country music, spending time with her friends and especially spending time with her family.

Survivors include her son, Damon Butler of Burlington; two step-daughters, Denise Morse of Burlington, and Diane (Randy) Jordan of West Burlington; and step-son, Doug (Amy) Taylor of Milliken, CO; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one brother and one sister.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Darrick Butler, three sisters and seven brothers.&nbsp;

Family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM, Tuesday, February 15, 2022, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.

Sandra L. Rutter-Wells Blanchard, 57, of Burlington, died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2022, at her home. Born Nov. 7, 1964, in DeKalb, Ill., she was the daughter of Raymond Russell and GayLea Wells Rutter. On Jan. 24, 1991, Sandra married Jeffery H. Blanchard in Ft. Madison. Sandra earned her two-year nursing degree at SCC. She was a homemaker. She enjoyed following figure skaters Ekaterina Gordeeva and Sergei Grinkov on Facebook. She liked antique jewelry and she was a fan of Billy Idol. Sandra was a loving mother and wife. She loved her family and friends very much and was there to help anyone in need with her big heart. Survivors include her husband; daughter Eryn L. Blanchard-Wells and grandcat, Lastat of Waterloo; sister Kim (David) Goble of Burlington; and brother Michael (Renee) Rutter of Burlington. Sandra was preceded in death by her parents. A memorial visitation for Sandra will be Thursday, Feb. 10 from noon until 6 p.m. at Lunning Chapel. Inurnment will be at a later date at Claypoole cemetery. Richard Edwin Oetken, 97, of Burlington, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2022, at the Klein Center in West Burlington. Born Oct. 29, 1924, in Burlington, he was the son of Edward D. and Mary A. Bartusch Oetken. Richard was raised on the family farm on Irish Ridge Road five miles north of Burlington. He attended Hunter School, north of Burlington and graduated at the age of 13. Richard’s strong work ethic began at an early age on the family farm. At 15, he decided to leave home and seek employment. He worked on various farms, construction jobs, and assisted in building the Flint Hills Golf Course where he laid the water main and the first nine greens. Richard was employed husking corn and logging during winter months. Other work experiences included: Gustafson Dairy I.O.A. Foods Manufacturing Company in Cedar Rapids, McGraw Electric in West Chicago, Star Kimble Electric in Burlington, Army Ammunition Plant, construction in Marshalltown, and J.I. Case Co. in Burlington where he worked for 28 years, retiring in 1985. Over the years, he often worked two jobs. Between times he purchased, remodeled and sold six homes. In 1978, Richard decided to end working two jobs, working only one so he could begin volunteering, helping older individuals. In December 2004, he had to quit this volunteerism due to health reasons. Richard E. Oetken served in the Iowa State Guard, Co. A, First Regiment. In 1945, he was drafted into the United States Army serving in the 77th Infantry Division, Co. B. In 1946, he was transferred to the Army Air Force and served in the 136th AACS, Iceland Base Command. Corporal Oetken was discharged in 1947 at Army Air Force Base, Westover Field, Massachusetts. Richard was of the Baptist faith, a member of the Eagles Lodge Aerie 150, Moose Lodge #579, American Legion, a life member of V.F.W. Post #9162 and a Union member of UAW Local 807. Richard loved music and dancing. He attended many bluegrass, country western and gospel music events. Over the years, he attended four of the Gaither Gospel Music Shows and two Lawrence Welk shows. He loved to attend the Midwest Old Threshers in Mt. Pleasant and in 2001 was the Grand Marshal in the parade. He also enjoyed the shows and visiting all the friendly people. He loved to read many newspapers, farm magazines, and medical books. He enjoyed traveling in his younger years. Generosity reflects Richard’s character with major contributions to Midwest Old Threshers. He gave generously to most area churches, mission fields in Romania, Notre Dame Schools, Great River Hospice House in West Burlington, Community Foundation of Greater Muscatine, and the Morning Sun Development Corporation. Richard, being a strong supporter of the military, donated to veteran memorials including: the WWII Memorial site on Division St. in Burlington, Des Moines County Freedom Rock in Mediapolis, American Legion #112 in Morning Sun, VFW Post #10102 in Burlington, and recently the Veterans Memorial Amphitheatre and WWI Soldiers Lot restoration projects in Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington, and many other national memorials and veterans' organizations. He gave to other area projects like Burlington Friends of the Depot, R.F.D. Postal Museum in Morning Sun, Danville Station Museum &amp; Library, Dover Historical Society in New London, grain rescue equipment for Danville, Yarmouth and West Point Fire Departments. He gave to other area projects which are too many to list. Proceeding him in death are his parents and two sisters. He is survived by one niece and three nephews. The Funeral Service for Mr. Oetken will be held at Lunning Chapel on Saturday, Feb. 12 at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Larry Dodds officiating. Full military honors will be rendered by Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard. Burial will follow at Aspen Grove Cemetery.&nbsp;&nbsp;
