George Henry Quinn, 76, of Burlington, died Thursday, July 21, 2022, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born February 23, 1946, in Illinois, he was the son of Jesse and Cora Krems Quinn. On November 5, 1990, he married Sarah Zachmeyer in Danville, Ia..

He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving during the Vietnam War from 1967 to 1969. He was a gunner operator on a Hellcat tank.

He was a truck driver for many years, and owned a bar for a few years.

He had a great sense of humor, was a gun enthusiast, and enjoyed fishing. He was a very loving and dedicated grandfather.

Survivors include wife, Sarah Quinn of Burlington, one daughter, Jennifer (Derek) Baker of Burlington; two sons, Richard (Sandy) Quinn of Mediapolis, Ia., and Jamie (Katy) Dowell of Gallatin, Tenn., 10 grandkids, and 6 great grandkids.

He is preceded in death by one daughter and his parents.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

A graveside service for George will be at Keokuk National Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for the Burlington Fire Department.

Born February 27, 1942, in Donnellson, Ia. she was the daughter of Melvin Ernest and Bonadelle Jean Fullerton Raid.&nbsp;

Connie graduated from Burlington High School in the class of 1959 and attended Parsons College in Fairfield, Ia.&nbsp;

On January 30, 1961, Connie married Robert L. Martin. She was a homemaker and secretary for Raid Quarries and the Burlington Fire Department. Connie attended Grace United Methodist Church.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Connie enjoyed her coffee groups spent with beloved friends. She liked knitting, quilting, and sewing and was a member of the First United Methodist Quilters group. She loved watching her grandchildren’s activities which were very important to her. Connie enjoyed playing bridge. She had an infectious sense of humor and loved spreading laughter and joy to everyone.&nbsp;

Survivors include her husband Bob of 61 years; children, Cherie (Hal) Reid of Burlington, Steve (Teresa) Martin of Shell Rock, Ia., and Tricia (Randy) Bolton of Osceola, Ia.; Grandchildren Stacy Martin, Christopher Martin, Emma Bolton and Karly Stoffregen; three great-grandchildren; sister Mary Raid and brother Mel (Jolene) Raid Jr all of Granbury, TX; several nieces, nephews, cousins and her many special friends that she loved like family.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters Patricia Raid-Harrison and Marlene Ann Raid; granddaughter Ally Bolton and grandson Kaleb Lehman.&nbsp;

The celebration of life for Connie will be 2 p.m. at The Loft on Wednesday, July 27 with Pastor Dennis Coon officiating. At Connie’s request, there will be a time for family and friends to share happy and humorous stories. Visitation will be from noon to 7 p.m. at Lunning Chapel on Tuesday, July 26, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m.

William "Dub" Hedgepeth Jr.,91, of Burlington, died Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at the Klein Center in West Burlington. Sally appreciated all the kindness, care, and hugs given by the staff at the Klein Center, Cobblestone Hill, and his hospice nurse, Amy.

Born March 4, 1931, in Lawrenceburg, Tenn., he was the son of William M. and Cora B. Lanning Hedgepeth. On August 11, 1956, he married Sally Ann Hanrahan at St. John's Catholic Church in Burlington.

He graduated High School in Lawrence County, Tenn. in 1951. He obtained a Bachelor's in Business Administration from Iowa Wesleyan in 1958.

Dub was a proud U.S. Air Force Veteran, serving during the Korean War from January 15, 1951, until January 14, 1955. He was proud to receive his Quilt of Valor on December 7, 2021, on the anniversary of Pearl Harbor at the Klein Center.

He worked as a Capital Budget Director for J.I. Case as well as Riverfront Realty and was the co-owner and operator of Hedgepeth Antiques with his wife Sally.&nbsp;

In high school, he played trombone in the Lawrence County High School Marching Band. He enjoyed going to casinos, buying and selling antiques, and taking day trips with his wife. Dub loved attending Midwest Old Threshers in Mount Pleasant where he and Sally had a booth for 17 years in the Antique Building on the grounds. He also enjoyed the company of his cats. Dub was a member of the American Legion, Iowa State Deputies and Sheriff Association, and a proud member of the NRA. He was an avid Iowa State Cyclone fan. He was a kind and devoted husband, father, brother, uncle &amp; friend.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Sally Ann Hedgepeth of Burlington; brother, Paul L. (Donna) Hedgepeth of Fort Madison; sisters, Margaret (Warren) Mehmken of Sperry and Esther Hedgepeth Wright of Dallas, Tex.; special friend, Mark Miller of Burlington and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, beloved daughter, Laura, and grandchild, Christy, brother, Clifford Hedgepeth, sister Kathleen Annegers, and 2 brothers-in-law, Warren Mehmken and Harold Wright.

Visitation will be from 12 to 7 p.m. with the family to receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. &nbsp;Wednesday, August 3, 2022, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home. Cremation will be entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory following the service. Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Cemetery at a later date.

Monica "Mouse" Mesler, 85, of West Burlington, died at 3:20 p.m. Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at the Danville Care Center in Danville.

Born May 3, 1937, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Louis B. and Charlotte Hagerty Meyer. On August 9, 1958, she married James P. Mesler in Burlington.

She was a 1955 graduate of Burlington Catholic High School.&nbsp;

Monica worked as a Des Moines County Court Reporter and at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in the Security office. With her husband, she was the co-owner of Mesler Supply Inc. for over 40 years. They also owned and operated the Carhartt Store.

She was a member of SS. Mary and Patrick Catholic Church and a member of St. Mary's Altar and Rosary. She was on the West Burlington Planning and Zoning Board for over 26 years. She assisted her husband in the founding of the Iowa Trappers Association. She enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles, playing cards, and helping others. She loved wintering in Las Vegas.

Survivors include husband, James P. Mesler of West Burlington; four children, Ann Marie Kirk of Burlington, Jean Elizabeth (Leon) Helling of Ankeny, Thomas James (Deborah) Mesler of Rome, Pa., and Patrick Joseph (Anna) Mesler of Burlington; nine grandchildren, Janette Kirk-Yenchko, Eric (Natasha Knutson) Rahn, Jana (Timothy) Rahn-Kilfoy, Nathaniel (Kristina) Poli, Brooke Poli, Summer Mesler, Lily Mesler, Breana (Michael) Williams-Hawkins, and Gage Mesler; and eight great-grandchildren Evelyn, Claire and Logan Yenchko, Luca Rahn, Kaden Kilfoy, and Avery, Sydney and James DeWayne "J.D." Eugene Wilson “Buster” “Buzz” Smothers Jr., 67, of Burlington died Tuesday, July 19, 2022, at his home.&nbsp;

Born, September 3, 1954, in Burlington, he was the son of Eugene Wilson Smothers Sr. and Marion Louise Bridgeman Smothers Sargent.&nbsp;

Eugene graduated from Burlington High School and took welding classes at Southeastern Community College. He served with the Iowa National Guard. He married Kenna Ryner and they later divorced.&nbsp;

Eugene was a welder at Coppes-Murray, Grain Belt Equipment, Ceco Building Systems, and Nunnikhoven Mold Company. He had a green thumb and enjoyed growing Cactus and houseplants. He also liked cars.&nbsp;

Survivors include his children Quinton Smothers of Burlington and Deanne (Matt) Saddoris of New Windsor, Ill.; grandchildren Aleecia Saddoris, Conner Corman, Illiana Saddoris, Oden Hill, and Bryson Saddoris; siblings Wenona Lightner of Kansas City, Mo., Alva (Dennis) Anderson of Burlington, Allyn Smothers of Burlington, Roy (Kris) Smothers of Burlington; several nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Roberta Dochterman, and Brother Daniel Smothers.&nbsp;

David Charles Shaw, 65, of Fort Madison, died at 5:29 PM Tuesday, July 19, 2022, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born July 8, 1957, in California, he was the son of Robert and Judith Irwin Shaw. He was married to Gloria Shaw with whom he had one daughter. They later divorced. In 2007, he married Theresa Bougher in Las Vegas.&nbsp;

He worked in construction for several years, and also worked as a drill press operator for Bagcraft Paper Company in Ft. Madison, Ia..

He was of Christian faith. He was a very hard worker and always punctual. Family meant a lot to him. Dave was an all-around good husband, who enjoyed antique shopping, collecting model cars and memorabilia, watching NASCAR, and going fishing at Mirror Lake in Arkansas. He had many tools and loved to tinker and work on whatever he could get his hands on.

Survivors include wife, Theresa Shaw; one daughter, Rachel Lara, four grandchildren, Isaiah, Alyssa, Gabby, and Sammy Lara; two step-daughters, Angelina Hernandez, and Christa (Josh) Dennison; two step-sons, Wayne Gann and Randolph Meacham; eight step-grandchildren, Donovan and Lexis Hernandez, Braelynn Rokey, Drake and Alana Taylor, and Claire, Sierra and Blade Gann; one step-great-granddaughter, Willow Hernandez; five brothers, Rick McDougall, Robbie Campbell, Mark Campbell, John Campbell, and Glen Shaw; two sisters, Desirea Robinson and April Corral; and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his stepmother, Nancy Shaw.

David Charles Shaw

Rita Marie Miller, 93, of Burlington, died at 12:35 am Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at the New London Nursing and Rehab in New London.

Born November 11, 1928, in Burlington, she was the daughter of William and Genevieve Kramer Watznauer. On January 30, 1946, she married Clarence "Babe" Gerald Miller in Fort Madison. He died on January 3, 1994.

She did many jobs throughout her life, working at BB's Greenhouse, tending to a fruit farm and a dairy farm, and Spring Sand and Gravel.

She was of the Catholic faith. She was very strong, both physically and strong-willed. She loved cardinals, gardening, and hanging baskets of flowers. She was a great cook and baked almost every day. She is preceded in death by three sons-in-law, and ten brothers and sisters.

Visitation will be from 11:30 to 1:00 p.m. with the family to receive friends following an 11:30 a.m. Rosary Service on Saturday, July 23, at Divine Mercy Parish-St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.

The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection for Rita will be 1 p.m. Saturday, July 23, at Divine Mercy Parish-St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Very Rev. Father Marty Goetz as the Celebrant. Burial will be in South Walker Cemetery following the service.&nbsp;

On January 30, 1946, she married Clarence "Babe" Gerald Miller in Fort Madison. He died on January 3, 1994.She did many jobs throughout her life, working at BB's Greenhouse, tending to a fruit farm and a dairy farm, and Spring Sand and Gravel.She was of the Catholic faith. She was very strong, both physically and strong-willed. She loved cardinals, gardening, and hanging baskets of flowers. She was a great cook and baked almost every day. Mary Kay Elliott, 68, of Burlington, died at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, July 17, 2022, at the OakView Nursing Home and Rehabilitation in Burlington.

Born June 4, 1954, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Laurence L. and Phyllis Catherine McIntire McQuay. On May 14, 1977, she married Russell William "Rusty" Elliott II in Oak Street Baptist Church, Burlington, Iowa. He later died on February 13, 2022.

Mary Kay was a Burlington High School graduate.&nbsp;&nbsp;

She worked at HyVee in the bakery as a cake decorator before she was married, then became a homemaker.&nbsp;

Mary Kay was a member of the First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, playing the organ, and decorating cakes. Mary loved animals and had a soft spot for cats.

Survivors include her mother, Phyllis McQuay of Burlington; son, Russell "Bill" William (Jessica) Elliott, III of Burlington; grandson, Alex Elliott; granddaughter, Morrigan Elliott and sister, Debra (Dan) Schwenker of Burlington.&nbsp;

Besides her husband, she is preceded in death by her father.

Mary Kay Elliott

Thelma Marie Scarff Crow, 84, of Burlington, died Monday, July 18, 2022, at the Klein Center in West Burlington.

Born October 28, 1937, in Oakland Mills, Iowa, she was the daughter of Jesse Emil and Inez Bishop Scarff. On May 26, 1969, she married Oren "Red" Crow at the Sunnyside Baptist Church in Burlington. He preceded her in death on October 17, 2001.

She attended the one-room country school at Oakland Mills through the eighth grade and then graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1956.&nbsp;

As a youngster, besides the chores and working on the farm, she did ironings for the country school teachers, and her sisters, and detassled corn as a teenager. After her marriage, she worked at Sheaffer Pen Company (then based in Mt. Pleasant), was a housekeeper, and then a kitchen aide at the then Henry County Memorial Hospital in Mt. Pleasant. She worked at Sylvania for several years, and then for IRC/TrW for over 19 years. She then went to work for Wal-Mart where she worked in the domestic department, fabric department, stocking shelves, and then in the grocery department, until she retired after almost 15 years.

At the age of 28, she was a stage four cancer survivor. For many years she and her husband bought and remodeled older houses. They even built one from the ground up in Sperry, Iowa. Illness sent them back to live in Burlington.&nbsp; After the death of her 93-year-old aunt, Ethel Cash in 2009, she started volunteering at the Great River Medical Center until 2017. She enjoyed all kinds of crafts, but sewing was her preference for many years and she loved sewing for her grandchildren. When the grandchildren grew up enough that they didn't want homemade clothes, she turned to crochet and cross stitching and many friends and family received crocheted names, and cross-stitched gifts from her. She also got great pleasure out of her computer and delved into the genealogy of her family and others, plus the e-mailing of friends and family.

Survivors include her son, Randy Lee (Roberta) Ford of Niota, IL formerly of Burlington; two grandchildren, Brandon (Cory Mellinger) Ford &amp; Sara (JP Korf) Ford; six great-grandchildren, Allison, Gavin, Isabella, and Traesin Ford, Sayje Spindlow, Nikolai Ware; two step-great-grandchildren, Carson Gutierrez and Miles Korf; two sisters, Jean (Ed) Leichty and Karole (Stan) Miller; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband of 32 years, she was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Cynthia, and a baby sister, Emily Sue.

The Graveside Committal Service for Mrs. Crow will be 11 a.m., Saturday, July 23, 2022, at Aspen Grove Cemetery.

Ray Stewart Morris, 92 of Mt Pleasant, formerly of Burlington, died Sunday, July 17, 2022 at Savannah Heights in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa.&nbsp;

Born December 18, 1929, in Powersville, Mo. He was the son of Ona B. Morris. Ray attended school in Missouri.&nbsp;

Ray worked at the C &amp; E Mattress Factory for 39 years. He never missed a day of work and retired at the age of 62. He was a member of the United Steelworkers of American Union Local 1860.&nbsp;

Ray was a charter member of Flint Hill Church of the Nazarene where he ushered for over 50 years. He also was a helper on the church van when picking up kids for church.&nbsp;

Ray never owned a car but walked thousands of miles throughout the city of Burlington during his lifetime. He was an inspiration to many and will be missed.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandma Ora L. Morris in 1964.&nbsp;

The funeral service for Ray will be 10 a.m. Thursday, July 21st at Lunning Chapel with Reverend Ron Jewett officiating. 

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow services in Lucerne Cemetery in Lucerne, Mo.&nbsp;

Born July 29, 1973, in St Croix, Virgin Islands he was the son of Armando and Irma Garcia Felix.&nbsp;

Jorge was of the Catholic faith. He formerly worked for Scott’s Manufacturing in Ft. Madison. He loved baseball and softball and most of all he loved taking care of his children.&nbsp;

Survivors include his wife of 23 years, Frances Cancel Felix; daughter Jessica Flint of Ames, Ia.; sons Jorge (Emily) Felix of Burlington, Jay Felix of Ames, Ia., and Cenio Felix of West Burlington; two grandchildren; brother Armando Felix of St. Croix, Virgin Islands; sisters Elba Felix of Chicago, Ill. and Joana Felix of Madison, Wis.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his parents.&nbsp;

Richard Fredrick Siegle, 87, of Oakville, died at 10:20 PM Friday, July 15, 2022, at the Sunrise Terrace Care Center in Winfield.

Born September 3, 1934, in Burlington, he was the son of Fred and Lena Frank Siegle. On September 2, 1956, he married Thelma Irene Schulz in Burlington. She passed on January 9, 2012.

He was a graduate of Huron High School.&nbsp;

Farming was Richard's life. He took great pride in his family's farm and passed along his love&nbsp;for the land to his children and grandchildren. He was a former 4H Leader and served on many&nbsp;boards, including Pork Producers, Big River Ethanol Board, Iowa Corn Growers Board, and the&nbsp;Local Levee and Drainage Board. He enjoyed being outdoors and driving in the local antique&nbsp;tractor ride. The most important thing to Richard was his family. He enjoyed supporting his&nbsp;grandchildren and great-grandchildren in their activities and watching his family grow.

Survivors include his son, Kirk (Carole) Siegle of Oakville; two daughters, Linda (Jerry)&nbsp;Strawhacker of Johnston, Ia., and Kathy (Brett) Kelly of Waunakee, Wis.; daughter-in-law, Kim Siegle of Burlington; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Arlene Siegle and&nbsp;Phyllis Siegle both of Burlington.

Besides his wife, he is preceded in death by his parents, and two sons, Ray Siegle and Mark Siegle.

Lawrence John Vojcihoski, 71, of Yarmouth, Iowa, passed away on June 30, 2022 in Iowa City.

He was born on July 31, 1950, to Elmer and Eunice Racine Vojcihoski in Menominee, Mich.

He married Marilyn Carruthers on April 28, 1987, in Texas.

Larry grew up in Menominee, Mich., and played bugle for the Northernaires Drum and Bugle Corp. As a young adult, Larry joined the Army and served in Korea and Germany.

He is survived by his siblings Kenneth (Sally) Duquaine of Sun Lakes, Ariz.; Charles (Connie) Vojcihoski of Menominee, Mich.; Kathleen Schwarz of Waukegan, Ill.; and James (Kathryn) Vojcihoski of Peshtigo, Wis.;&nbsp;as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Marilyn, daughter Amy, parents Elmer and Eunice, brother-in-law Randolph Schwarz, nephew Christopher Charles Vojcihoski, as well as his beloved dogs.

Shirley Rhum, 84, of Mediapolis, died Wednesday, July 13, 2022, at the Azria Health Prairie Ridge Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center in Mediapolis.&nbsp;

Born April 4, 1938, in Illinois, she was the daughter of Robert and Erlene Lee. She married Richard Rhum on December 11, 1959. He died March 23, 1993.&nbsp;

Shirley was a homemaker and provided in-home daycare for many years. She was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church in Mediapolis where she taught Sunday school and sang in the church choir.&nbsp;She enjoyed doing cross stitch and loved spending time with her grandkids.&nbsp;

Survivors include her three children; Rosemary Rhum of Mt. Pleasant, Rick Rhum of Leon, Ia., and Robert Rhum of Mediapolis; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, and one brother Ron Wilkerson of Sioux City.&nbsp;

The funeral service for Mrs. Rhum was Friday, July 15th at the First United Presbyterian Church in Mediapolis. Interment is in Kossuth Cemetery, rural Mediapolis.&nbsp;

A memorial has been established for the Azria Health Prairie Ridge Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center.&nbsp;

Helen Krekel Krogmeier, 94, of Burlington, died Friday, July 8, 2022, at Accura Healthcare of Ames in Ames, Iowa.

Born July 13, 1927, in Burlington, she was the daughter of William Elmer and Lena Regina Messmer Krekel.

Helen was an exceptionally kind and giving person who was beloved by her family and her friends. She was very active and kept fit through a regimen of aerobics, walking and bicycling into her late 80’s.&nbsp; She was a wonderful mother and “Grammy". &nbsp;She played an active part in the lives of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 

When she retired after 29 years of service at Northwestern Bell, she spent years volunteering with The Telephone Pioneers, donating to and traveling with the blood bank, delivering Meals on Wheels, and serving as a “Funeral Lunch Lady” for St. John’s.

Helen married Billy Ernest Fidler in 1947 and they had three children who survive them:&nbsp; Julie (Dennis) Dixon of Cambridge Iowa; Mark (Dana) Fidler of Argyle, Texas; and Jane (Kevin) Smith of Des Moines.&nbsp; She is survived by all of her grandchildren: Josh (Carrie) of The Hamptons, New York; Jessica (Andy) Disch of Edina, Minnesota; Taylor (Jenn) Fidler of Lubbock, Texas; Jacob Fidler of Dallas, Texas; Nicole (Sean) Dixon of Port Charlotte, Florida; and Brenda (Bob) Parish of Runnells, Iowa and her great grandchildren; Jordan, Hudson, Bennett, Elayne, Jessie, Max, MarieElise, Coleman, Sophie, and Sydnie. She is also survived by her sister, Mary Coyne of Saint Joseph, Missouri;&nbsp; her sister-in-law, Mary Ann Krekel, of Burlington and many nieces and nephews.

Helen was preceded in death by her brothers Bill, Ray, Paul and Jim Krekel and by her husband, Bob Krogmeier, who she married in 1982.

Family will receive friends from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 13, at Divine Mercy Parish-St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.

The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection for Mrs. Krogmeier will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 13, at Divine Mercy Parish-St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Very Rev. Father Marty Goetz as the Celebrant. A time of food and fellowship will be held in the fellowship hall of St. John's Church immediately following the service. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.&nbsp;

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for Divine Mercy Parish-St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.

Larry W. "Stray Cat" Poole, 61, of Mount Sterling, died at 2:39 p.m. Tuesday, July 5, 2022, at the Henry County Health Center in Mount Pleasant.

Born May 4, 1961, in Keokuk, he was the son of Edna Virginia Smith. He was married to Pamela Sue Eley. They later divorced.

He loved listening to music, being outdoors, fishing, and spending time with his grandkids. He always looked forward to talking with friends and drinking an ice cold beer and his Wild Turkey whiskey.

Survivors include one daughter, Angel Poole of Burlington; one son, Jeremiah (Brandie) Poole of Burlington; seven grandchildren, Keaton Rollins, Leah and Cayden Geno, Aubriana Young, Kolton Lange, Aaliah Wessels, and Lillian Poole; seven brothers, John Smith, Charlie Smith, Brad Smith, Roger Smith, Bill Smith, Bob Poole, and Ronnie Poole; two sisters, Virginia Glaha, and Linda Miller; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, two&nbsp;grandchildren, Destinee Poole and Judah Wessels, and two&nbsp;brothers, Donnie Poole and Chad Smith.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Jeffrey Hall, 67 of Burlington, died Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at his home surrounded by his family.&nbsp;

Born December 6, 1954 in Burlington, he was the son of Jack L. and Evelyn B. (Prox) Hall. He attended First Christian Church. He attended Burlington High School.&nbsp;

Jeff married Sheila Barnes July 7, 1977. She preceded him in death on May 22, 1990. On June 1, 1991 he married Arleen Ann Miller. They later divorced.&nbsp;

Jeff was a machinist for Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad for 27 years, retiring January 2003.&nbsp;

He enjoyed playing guitar, martial arts (he was a 2nd degree black belt) and gardening. He loved all his family, especially his grandkids and attending their sporting events. Jeff loved being in the kitchen. He was a big fan of setting off fireworks!&nbsp;

Neal Alfred Brokaw, 81, of Burlington died peacefully Tuesday, July 5, 2022 at Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington, Iowa.&nbsp;

Neal was born May 2, 1941 in Burlington, Iowa to C. Lyle and Verena Billsten Brokaw. He was a graduate of Media High School and was active in music, FFA, track, basketball and football. A 1963 graduate from Wheaton College in Ill. with a B.A. in mathematics, he then went on to complete his Master’s Degree in 1969 from Western Illinois University. Neal taught Jr. High mathematics in Wheaton, Ill. for 15 years until he decided to return to the farm in Raritan, Ill. to continue the operation with his father, Lyle.&nbsp;

He married Carol Jeffrey on August 19, 1967 in Clinton, Iowa. He was also a Bible study teacher, Deacon and Elder of the Raritan Reformed Church and New Hope Community Church in Burlington. A strong man of faith he always looked to invest in others and displayed strong leadership in all he did. He was involved in Kiwanis, Farm Bureau, Raritan Community Remembers, Raritan Bicentennial Committee. Neal’s hobbies included bicycling, traveling, reading, watching sports (especially of his children and grandchildren) and listening to music. Above all else his priorities were his relationship with Christ and his family.&nbsp;

He leaves behind his wife of almost 55 years: brother Curtis (Cheryl) Brokaw of Medinah, Ill.; sister Janet Brokaw of Raritan, Ill.; daughter Kristin Whiteman (Bob) of Somonauk, Ill.; son Douglas (Vanessa) Brokaw of Spring Hill, KS; special friend Steven Haynes; seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren and eight nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

The memorial service for Neal will be Monday, July 11, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at the Raritan Reformed Church in Raritan, Ill. with the Reverend Craig Holmes officiating. Visitation will be Sunday July 10, 2022 from 3 to 5 p.m. at Lunning Chapel in Burlington. Inurnment will be at a later date in Raritan Cemetery.&nbsp;

Patricia Ann Humiston of Burlington and formerly Sperry, died on July 5, 2022, at the age of 79.&nbsp; She was the daughter of Harold and Hazel (Reed) Bradway and was born in Burlington on October 19, 1942.&nbsp; She was loved by her son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Ellen Humiston, her grandchildren, Alisha Humiston (Anthony LoCurto) and Kayla (Sam) Strawhacker, and great-grandchildren, Lucy and Bennett Strawhacker. She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law Leroy and Paula Bradway, and step children Mike and Rick Humiston and their families.&nbsp; She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Rex Humiston, and parents, Harold and Hazel Bradway.&nbsp; Patricia graduated from Burlington High School in 1960. She married Robert “Rex” Humiston on March 14, 1964, in Kahoka, Mo. He preceded her in death on July 1, 2015.&nbsp;

Patricia Ann Humiston

David F. Bremhorst, 79, &nbsp;died July 3, 2022, at his home in Middletown, Iowa after an extended illness.&nbsp;

David was born May 5, 1943, to Aloysius and Gertrude Sporkman Bremhorst in St Paul, Iowa.&nbsp;

He married Linda Dingman in 1963. He later married Janice Dameron on April 13, 2001.&nbsp;

David served in the Army Reserves. He farmed most of his life while working at Armour-Dial and IAAP. He later drove over the road for Transport America and Fed Ex Freight before retiring in 2005.&nbsp;

David’s passion was the outdoors, whether it be gardening, farming, raising animals, hunting or fishing. His heart was happiest in the fresh air between the sun and the soil.&nbsp;

He is survived by his wife Janice; daughters Brenda (Chris) Berner of Leesburg, Fla. and Barbara (John) Snyder of Valparaiso, Ind.; sons Bradley (Andria) Bremhorst of Billerica, Mass., and Barney (Laura) Bremhorst of Nixa, Mo.; by marriage Kevin (Julie) Dameron of Mt. Bremhorst, 79, &nbsp;died July 3, 2022, at his home in Middletown, Iowa after an extended illness.&nbsp; David was born May 5, 1943, to Aloysius and Gertrude Sporkman Bremhorst in St Paul, Iowa.&nbsp; He married Linda Dingman in 1963. He later married Janice Dameron on April 13, 2001.&nbsp; David served in the Army Reserves. He farmed most of his life while working at Armour-Dial and IAAP. He later drove over the road for Transport America and Fed Ex Freight before retiring in 2005.&nbsp; David’s passion was the outdoors, whether it be gardening, farming, raising animals, hunting or fishing. His heart was happiest in the fresh air between the sun and the soil.&nbsp; He is survived by his wife Janice; daughters Brenda (Chris) Berner of Leesburg, Fla. and Barbara (John) Snyder of Valparaiso, Ind.; sons Bradley (Andria) Bremhorst of Billerica, Mass., and Barney (Laura) Bremhorst of Nixa, Mo.; by marriage Kevin (Julie) Dameron of Mt. Pleasant, and Angela (Tad) Lowary of Burlington; sister Bernadette (Bud) Flesher of Bettendorf, and brother-in-law Doyle Hoyer of Ft. Madison, &nbsp;and his first wife Linda Butler. He is also survived by 24 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, close friend Effie Sapp and his cat Jenny.&nbsp; David was preceded in death by his parents, brother Bernard (Sandy) Bremhorst, and sister Bertha Hoyer.&nbsp; We will be forever grateful for his nursing staff, Judy, Mikki, Michelle, Sonya, Jen, Jackie, and all the others that cared for him. Special thanks to the hospice nurses.&nbsp; Per David’s wishes, there will be no funeral service at this time. There will be a celebration of life at a later date.&nbsp;Cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.&nbsp; In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for Southeast Iowa Regional Parkinson’s Support Group.&nbsp;
