Dolores B. Meeker, 90, of Burlington, died Friday, November 11, 2022, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born November 25, 1931, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Frederick A. and Mary Jane Kiersey Spanhut. On April 5, 1953, she married Marvin Chester Meeker in Burlington.&nbsp; He died on February 4, 2015.

She graduated from Burlington High School in 1949. In 1952, Dolores graduated from nursing school at Mercy Hospital in Burlington. Dolores worked for Mercy for a short time as a nurse prior to working with her husband on the farm.

She was a member of Kingston United Methodist Church. Dolores taught bible study at church and volunteered with the United Methodist Women. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, and tending to her flowers. She also enjoyed reading, studying scripture, and going for hikes in the hills.&nbsp;

Survivors include three daughters, Joyce Ann (David) Acheson of Ankeny, Rhonda Kay (Bruce) Jensen of Ashville, N.C., and Diane Marie (Ricardo) Bimbela of Santa Barbara, Calif.; five grandchildren, Daniel (Anna) Acheson, Aaron (Melissa) Acheson, Rachel (Jacob) Kellog, Shonda Jensen and Eric (Cheyenne) Jensen; and one great-grandson, Ezra Acheson.

Besides her husband of 61 years, she was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Ronald Meeker, one brother, Fred Spanhut, and three sisters, Lillian Daniel, Adelia Combs, and Avalin Grothe.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, November 18, Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division St.

The funeral service for Mrs. Meeker will be 11 a.m. Friday, November 18, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division St., with Pastor Earlene Lekwa officiating. Burial will be in Kossuth Cemetery.&nbsp;

A memorial has been established for the Mediapolis Fire Department, Mediapolis Ambulance Service and the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House.

Dolores B. Meeker

Roy C. Hostetter, 53, of Burlington, died Tuesday, November 8, 2022, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Born January 21, 1967, he was the son of John Hostetter Jr. and Mary Diane Nabors Hostetter. He served in the Army and the Air Force after graduating from high school.

He married Regina Hobby. They later divorced. He then married Erin Sharer. They divorced.

Roy worked for WW Transport and Catfish Bend Casino in security.

He was a loving father, son, brother, uncle, and friend. He was very ornery and had a great sense of humor. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, RC racing, football, especially the Philadelphia Eagles, dirt track racing, late models and sprints, trains and collectibles.

Survivors include his daughter, Marisa Hostetter of New Port Richey, Fla.; his mother, Diane Hostetter of Burlington; paternal grandfather, John Hostetter Sr. of West Burlington; two brothers, John (Billie) Hostetter of Burlington and Frank (Jennifer) Hostetter of Collins, Ga.; nieces and nephews, Tania, Trevor, Travis, Mariah, Jacob, Haley; great nieces and nephews, Kadence, Weston, Kataleya, Pheonyx, Macklynn, London, Willow, and Aleah.

He was preceded in death by his father, paternal grandmother, and maternal grandparents.

According to his wishes, cremation has been accorded and entrusted to Lunning Chapel.

Peggy Ann Kirby, 82, of West Burlington, died Tuesday, November 8, 2022, at her residence.

Born August 25, 1940, in Sandwich, Ill. she was the daughter of Homer Shelton and Emma Fern Hodge Halford. She was of the Lutheran faith.

On September 17, 1960, Peggy married James G. Fruland in Somonauk, Ill. He died October 18, 1994. On September 9, 2000, Peggy married Charles B. “Chuck” Kirby in Ottawa, Ill.

Peggy was the secretary for Natural Gas in Columbus Junction. She also worked at Newark Insurance Agency and Econo Mart.

Family was very important to Peggy. She enjoyed spoiling her grandkids and great-grandkids. She also enjoyed traveling.

Survivors include her husband Chuck of West Burlington; daughter, Kelly Fruland (Terry) Harris of Columbus Junction; step-daughter, Tina Marie (Robert) Paige of Boone, Mich.; three grandkids, Melissa Harris (Ryan) Granaman of West Branch, Allison (Daryl) Grames of Boone, Mich., Rachel Harris of Columbus Junction; four great-grandkids, Olivia and Ethan Granaman and Wyatt and Wayland Grames; two sisters-in-law, Donna Hilt of Glen Ellyn, Ill. and Rae Halford of Somonauk, Ill.; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband James, brother Jerry Halford, and sister Sally Donahue.

Cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.

Per Peggy’s wishes, there will be no service at this time. There will be a celebration of life at a later date with burial in Millington Newark Cemetery in Millington, Ill.

Memorials have been established for the American Heart Association and the American Diabetes Association.

Alice Jean Maurer, 96, of Burlington, died Friday, November 4, 2022, at the Danville Care Center in Danville.

Born November 18, 1925, in Irving, Ill., she was the daughter of Walter J. and Lola Mae Maurer.&nbsp;

Alice worked at Burlington Medical Center as executive secretary to the administrator for 15 years and for the City of Burlington for four years.

She was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church. Alice had a beautiful singing voice and sang many solos in church.&nbsp;

Survivors include one brother, Walter Ray Maurer of Pinehurst, N.C.; one sister, Lola M. Maurer; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Robert Maurer and Milton Edward Maurer.&nbsp;

The funeral service for Ms. Maurer will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, November 8, at Our Savior Lutheran Church with Pastor Orie Thomford officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held at Our Savior Lutheran Church following the burial.

Alice Jean Maurer

Marion Edwin York, 89, of Burlington died &nbsp;November 3, at home with family by his side. &nbsp;Ed passed quickly and thankfully did not suffer; he died of complications related to his heart and lungs, and while the past few months were not easy for him, this summer he was still riding his Big Bear, driving his new riding mower, and yelling at speeding cars on Gnahn street.

Ed met Jean while she was in nursing school; they had Chinese food for their first date, and later joked that they needed help with the menu. Soon after they married in the Little Brown Church in the Vale in Nashua, Iowa in 1954 and lived in Burlington, Iowa near their families for most of their lives. He frequently mentioned how much he was looking forward to seeing Jean again, who passed in 2015. 

He was known as Pat to his family, Ed to his friends, and Mr. York to his many students. Mr. York was best known for his many years as a biology teacher at Burlington High School. He developed advanced laboratory methods for inspiring students to think independently, and the words “fetal pig” will spark mixed memories for many. He received his Master’s Degree in Education at Atlanta University. He served in the Army states-side and observed one of the first US fax transmissions in the testing of this new communication technology.&nbsp;

He was less known for his conceptual futuristic thinking, but this was important to him, and he predicted trends that came true 20 or 30 years later. In the 1980’s he developed a new type of diesel engine oil filtration system and tested it on hundreds of Iowa school buses, proving that the oil never had to be changed and engine performance improved over time. For this work, he won best paper at the 1983 Society of Automotive Engineering conference. This summer he was trying to make his case to the Iowa Secretary of Agriculture for farming ideas that he believed would be needed as global climate change progresses.

Ed was very proud of his wife Jean and his kids Dave, Denise, and Pam and their spouses Robin, Dave, and Jay.&nbsp;He has four grandchildren Cary, Grant, Miranda, and Blake, and 6 great-grandchildren Austin, Hailey, Shannan, Mayah, Jase, and Mayla who called him Big Poppa, and an extended family who he enjoyed living across Gnahn street for many years.

Ed was preceded in death by his wife, brother Dan, sister Peg, his mother Dorothy, and his father Owen.&nbsp;

Our family loved him dearly even when he was grouchy or ranting about the world today. We will especially remember him for his love of giant sunflowers and all the good times fishing, boating, gardening, and building bonfires. We love you Dad, Grandpa, and Big Poppa.

The Graveside Committal Service for Mr. York will be 1 p.m. Monday, November 7, at Edwards Cemetery. Please join his family afterward at the Drake Restaurant in Burlington from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. for a time of food and fellowship.&nbsp;

Born March 4, 1949, in Burlington, Iowa, she was the daughter of Carroll Manley and Marjorie Samuelson Manley Breuer. She was a 1967 graduate of Burlington High School.

She married David Mumm on May 8, 1976, in Burlington. Sandy was self-employed for over 25 years.

She attended Harmony Bible Church and was a member of the Des Moines County Historical Society. She loved researching genealogy and was very active in coordinating and attending her class reunions. She enjoyed visiting with her dear friends Bonnie, Connie, Barb, Linda, Becky, Joyce, and her classmates.

She is survived by her husband, David Mumm of Burlington; two sons, Brian (Sarah) Mumm of Burlington and Derek Mumm of Cedar Falls; one daughter, Shawna Mumm of Loveland, Colo.; six granddaughters, Carissa, Hayle, Whitney, Alyssa, Emily, and Abbigail; three great-granddaughters, Gracelynn, Ava and Paislee; one sister, Theresa “Tami” Dirth of Austin, Tex.; two nieces, Miranda and Carol Ann and two nephews, Adam and Ryan.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother Randy Manley.

Betty D. McLaughlin, 94, of Mediapolis, died Thursday, November 3, 2022, at her home.

Born August 21, 1928, in Burlington, Iowa, she was the daughter of Cletus and Margaret Ruff Beckman. She married John McLaughlin on June 3, 1950. He died February 1, 1989.

Betty was a homemaker. She was of the Christian faith. She loved helping and spending time with her grandchildren. She was dedicated to learning God’s Word daily.

She is survived by her children; Rick (Sandra) McLaughlin of Mediapolis, Dave McLaughlin of Mount Pleasant, Brent (Nancy) McLaughlin of Mediapolis, Annette (Vince) Mahan of Greenville, Tex., Luann (Fred) Nelson, and Denise (Doug) Roelfs both of Mediapolis; 15 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Donald (Mary Lee) Beckman and Clifford Beckman; sister-in-law Betty Beckman all of Burlington and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, and two sisters.

&nbsp;The memorial funeral service for Mrs. McLaughlin will be 3 p.m. Friday, November 11 at Lunning Chapel. The Rev. Father Gary Beckman will officiate. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the time of services. A private family inurnment will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Dodgeville.

Joanne Elizabeth Oetken, 90, of Burlington, died Thursday, November 3, 2022, at the Bickford Cottage in Burlington, surrounded by her family and loving caregivers.

Born April 2, 1932, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Charles B. and Marie Hauber Doebele. On February 13, 1955, she married Alfred Ralph Oetken in Burlington. They remained happily together until his passing on April 19, 2013.

She graduated Burlington High School in 1949.&nbsp;

Joanne held a variety of jobs over the years, including a telephone operator, travel agent, and medical assistant.&nbsp;

She was a member of the Zion United Church of Christ, The Red Hat Ladies, and a former president of the Central Council and Girl Scouts leader. She enjoyed cooking and canning the harvest from her husband's garden. Joanne was an expert pie maker, especially grape pie. She loved to sew and made hundreds of quilts for babies in the hospital as well as her daughters' wedding dresses and the neighbor girls' dresses.&nbsp;

Survivors include her daughters, Diana "Dee Dee" (Dennis) Glancy and Nancy (Ted) Gutman both of Burlington; four grandchildren, Ashlee (Luke) Barnes, Holly (Ryan) Luttenegger, Teddy (Justina) Gutman, and Ben (Kelsey) Glancy; seven great-grandchildren, Lydia, Shea, and Cole Barnes, Jackson and Brock Luttenegger, Theo Gutman, and Charli Glancy; many loved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, infant brother, James, and brother Charles Doebele.&nbsp;

Belva grew up in Hobbs, New Mexico, until fourth grade when her family moved to Sulfer City, Ark., following her dad’s work.&nbsp; She attended a one-room school there.&nbsp; The family later moved to Kosh Konong, Mo. where she graduated from high school in 1955.&nbsp; She worked at Champion, then at Automated Vending Service for 22 years.&nbsp; She was a sandwich maker and prepared sandwiches to fill vending machines.

She was a 50-plus-year member of the First Baptist Church in Burlington. In Belva’s spare time, she liked to crochet, embroider and paint fuzzy posters.&nbsp; Belva liked mysteries on TV and good “love stories” to read. She was a St. Louis Cardinal fan and spent hours with Walter rooting them on.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Survivors include her son David Birch of New London; daughter Katherine Taylor Birch of Burlington; eleven grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Joan Hilber Foley, 95, of Burlington, died Tuesday, August 30, 2022, at the Bickford Cottage in Burlington.

Born June 28, 1927, in Shelbyville, Mo., she was the daughter of William Milford and Maude Howerton Hilber. On September 14, 1947, she married Milton Keith Foley in Quincy, Ill. He died on June 6, 2019.

Joan was a homemaker and did secretarial work at Benner Tea Co. and Yetter Oil Co.

She was a very active member of Parkside Baptist Church.&nbsp; She was a member of P.E.O. Chapter HU, Des Moines County Historical Society, Friends of the Library, Civic Music, Kings Daughters, Burlington Hospital Auxiliary, Iowa Study Club, Prospect Hill PTA, Room Mother, and a Sunday School Teacher.&nbsp; She was always proud to be a farm girl.

Survivors include two daughters, Sue (Dwight) Foley Mulch of Burlington, Kate (Christian) Foley-Beining of Healdsburg, Calif.; one son, Mark (Michelle) Foley of Grimes; nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband of 72 years, she was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Jerry Hilber.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

The celebration of life for Joan will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, November 14, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home with a memorial service to follow. A time of food and fellowship will be held in the community room at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home following the service.

Mary Jane Levins, 89, of West Burlington, died Tuesday, October 25, 2022 at Klein Center.

Born, December 5, 1932, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Zachary Taylor and Jeanette Jean Trump Kuster.

Mary was a graduate of Burlington High School class of 1950. She married A. Patrick “Pat” Levins, Jr. on November 29, 1952 in Burlington. He died June 13, 2004.

Mary was the manager of Younker’s children’s clothing department. She worked there for 30 years, retiring in 1999.

She was a member of Divine Mercy Parish. She adored her family and loved working at Younker’s children’s department. “I’m Mary Jane, the oldest of ten” was a favorite saying.

Survivors include one daughter Rebecca Jane Norris of The Woodlands, Tex.; two sons, Timothy Patrick (Tamara) Levins of Nebraska City, Neb., and David Thomas (Carol) Levins of West Burlington; seven grandchildren Nathan, Jacob, and Seth (Roxy) Norris, Benjamin Levins, Bethany (Todd) Perry, Ryan (Luci) Levins, and Emily (Mark) Levins-Rhomberg; Three great grandchildren Maxwell Perry, Norah Perry and Harrison Levins; siblings Dennis Kuster of Burlington, Dwight Kuster of Cedar Rapids, Jeannette Hennenfent of Smithshire, Ill., Deborah Eastburn of Bettendorf, Thomas Kuster of West Burlington and Karen Eickmann of Cedar Rapids.

Bonnie Jean Murphy, 86, of Mediapolis, died Wednesday, October 26, 2022, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington surrounded by her family.

Born February 4, 1936, she was the daughter of Gerald Winder and Alberta Meda Gerling Courtney. On June 3, 1954, she married Jimmie Ray Murphy in Grandview.&nbsp;

Bonnie graduated from Wapello High School in 1954.&nbsp;

In her lifetime, Bonnie worked for Iowa Industries, Murphy's Service in Kingston, and the Mount Pleasant Walmart Distribution Center.&nbsp;

Bonnie was a member of Eastern Star and Daughters of the American Revolution. She loved to quilt and made over 115 quilts. She enjoyed threading necklaces, sewing, the piano, and music. Bonnie especially loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include husband of 68 years, Jimmie Ray Murphy of Mediapolis; two sons, Daniel Ray (Jill) of Kingston, and John Raymond (Molly) of Lakewood, Colo.; two daughters, Cynthia Kay (Chris) Swann of Oklahoma City, Okla. and Patricia Jayne (Bob) Lehnherr of Mediapolis; nine grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Jerry Courtney and Tom Courtney, both of Burlington, and Larry Courtney of Las Vegas, Nev.; two sisters, Joyce Stych of Muscatine and Judy Morgan of Tuscon, Ariz.; 37 nieces and nephews.

James Rande Goodwin, 76, of Denmark, died on Tuesday, October 25, 2022, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House.

Born, October 20, 1946, in Burlington, Iowa, he was the son of Virgel and Bernice Long Goodwin, and the big brother of Jana Rande Goodwin.

He attended Burlington area schools and graduated from Burlington High School in 1964.

Jim worked for Southeastern Community College as a welding instructor for over 30 years.

He was baptized at Lincoln Street Baptist Church in Mount Pleasant and recently attended Bethany Baptist Church in Keokuk.

He enjoyed horses from a young age. After his retirement, he loved driving for the Amish and traveling all over looking at this beautiful country.

Survivors include two daughters; Tammy Dingman of Burlington; three granddaughters, Kellie (Dan) Aney, Kourtney Hartman, and grandson Tim (Lauryn) Dingman.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, and granddaughter Nichole “Nikki” Hartman.

James Rande Goodwin

Maynard E. Hanel, 69, of Burlington, died peacefully in his home on Tuesday, October 18, 2022.

Born February 2, 1953, in Dickenson, North Dakota, he was the son of Jerry and Margaret Kovash Hanel. As a child, he moved to Livingston, Montana, graduated Park High School (class of ’71) with Beverly “Boopie” Craig (class of ’72), and the two married on June 8, 1974. Maynard worked for BNSF Railroad for 40+ years, until his retirement in February 2013.

Maynard was a simple man that always sported a white t-shirt with a soft pack of Marlboro Red cigarettes in the pocket, slicked-back hair, and a pair of Levi Jeans… A true “James Dean type” of the era. Even when donning a full-leg cast, you could either find him riding around on his motorcycle or driving around in his 1975 Oldsmobile 442.

Maynard was a steadfast son, a loyal brother, an occasionally reckless teenager, a devoted husband, an unconditionally loving father, an adoring grandfather, a true and loyal friend, and a relentless self-proclaimed life lesson prophet.

“You can’t win if you don’t play.”, “If you don’t eat, starve!”, “Money doesn’t grow on trees.”, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”, and “The way you make your bed is the way you sleep in it.” … If anyone that knew him turned the repetition of these life lessons into a drinking game, you too might be composing your own obituary.

He loved to fish and camp at Yellowstone River with his sons and brother during the family’s annual pilgrimage to Montana, have beers with friends, play Left, Right, Center with his sister, and farm the best “Hanel Spuds”. &nbsp;Even when providing was tough, he always provided.

He lived his life authentically and unapologetically. He instilled the valuable wisdom that people won’t always, and don’t need to, agree with you… If you disagreed with his gambling habits, chiminea usage, late-night enjoyment of fireworks with the kids, absurdly loud music (typically The Doors), or any other of his questionable life decisions, you likely found yourself on the receiving end of a middle finger. He taught his sons resilience and to always live the most authentic versions of themselves.

Survivors include his wife, Beverly Hanel of Burlington, Iowa, and four sons: Clinton Hanel of Burlington, Trevor Hanel (Surria) of Cedar Rapids, Ryan Hanel of Burlington, and Jared Hanel of Seattle, Wash.; one granddaughter: Skylie Hanel of Burlington, Iowa; two brothers: Alvin Hanel (Mickey) of Perkins, Okla. and Arne Hanel of Burlington; sister-in-law Kathie Hanel of Alamosa, Colo.; brother-in-law Gary Tecca of Burlington; and his many nieces and nephews.

As a child, he moved to Livingston, Montana, graduated Park High School (class of ’71) with Beverly “Boopie” Craig (class of ’72), and the two married on June 8, 1974. Maynard worked for BNSF Railroad for 40+ years, until his retirement in February 2013.Maynard was a simple man that always sported a white t-shirt with a soft pack of Marlboro Red cigarettes in the pocket, slicked-back hair, and a pair of Levi Jeans… A true “James Dean type” of the era. Maynard E. Hanel

Marjorie J. Marshall, 85, of Burlington, died Thursday, October 20, 2022, at her home.

Born March 14, 1937, in Camp Point, Illinois, she was the daughter of Lloyd F. and Hazel M. Smith.

She moved at an early age to Burlington, where she grew up and attended Burlington schools. She married Edgar L. Marshall on March 21, 1957. They divorced and remarried on February 17, 1968. He died September 8, 2007.

Marjorie worked at different jobs through the years in housekeeping with Burlington Hospital, Park Manor, Burlington Care Center and was a home health aide.

She enjoyed reading, crafting, watching TV, and enjoyed visiting with her friends and neighbors at Autumn Heights.

She is survived by three children; Carolyn Marshall, James Marshall, and Robert Marshall all of Burlington.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Edith Lyon, two sisters, and two brothers.

The memorial funeral service for Marjorie will be at 3 p.m. on Monday, October 24 at Lunning Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be at Aspen Grove Cemetery.

Cremation has been accorded and entrusted to Lunning Chapel.

Marjorie J. Marshall

Richard Dale Dameron, 92, of Burlington, died Friday, October 21, 2022, at Oak View Care and Rehabilitation Center in Burlington.

Born August 27, 1930 in Burlington, Iowa, he was the son of Lee A. and Armeda C. (Wills) Dameron. He was a graduate of Burlington High School and Burlington Business College.

He served in the Navy during the Korean conflict. He married Joan V. Granaman on November 13, 1953 in Kahoka, Mo. She died January 7, 2020.

Richard delivered The Hawk Eye newspaper when he was younger, delivered milk, and worked construction. He worked for Benner Tea Company, Farmall in Moline, Ill., Lagomarcino, Caterpillar and then worked on the docks at Exide Battery until his retirement. He was a proud Union worker his entire life.

He was a member of the UAW, was an avid Chicago Cubs fan, bowled for many years, and loved to play pranks on people. He was a great Pinochle player.

Survivors include his two sons; Marvin (Cindy) Dameron and Kevin (Linda) Dameron Sr. both of Burlington; stepson Michael Mellinger of Burlington; five grandchildren, Jeremy Dameron, Jodi Dameron, Summer Coleman, Kevin Dameron Jr. and Angela Lowary; step-grandchildren, Katie Mellinger and Christopher Augustine; numerous great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren with one on the way; two brothers, Robert Dameron of Burlington, Arthur “Bud” Dameron of Washington, Iowa; sister Betty Drain of Arkansas and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, three brothers, Gene, Clancy, and William and two sisters Marcella and Evelyn.

The funeral service for Mr. Dameron will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 25th at Lunning Chapel. Pastor Dean Graber will officiate. The Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard will conduct military rites. Interment at Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the funeral service.

A memorial has been established for the Wounded Warrior Project.

Richard Dale Dameron

Lisa Bleim, 53, of Burlington, died Friday, October 21, 2022, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington surrounded by family.

Born September 15, 1969, in Des Moines, she was the daughter of Thomas Harry and Connee Alexander Stevens. In 1993, she married Scott Dudycha, together they had one daughter. In 2008, she married Don Bleim, together they had one child. They later divorced.

After graduating from Burlington High School, she attended Northeast Missouri State, now known as Truman State, on a golf scholarship.&nbsp;

She worked for Hy-Vee since 1987. She was currently the Health Market Manager for Hy-Vee on Agency.

Lisa was known for her bright personality. She was the life of the party. She was always talking and making people laugh. No person left Lisa's presence a stranger. She loved to golf, go on shopping sprees, and traveling. She loved animals, especially her cats and granddog. But most of all, Lisa loved&nbsp;her family and her children were her pride and joy.

Survivors include her mom, Connee Stevens of Burlington; two children, Nicole Dudycha and Addison Bleim both of Burlington; two brothers, Bill Stevens of Farmington, Minn. and Mark Stevens of Burlington; sister, Aimee Bauer of Burlington.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her grandparents and dad.&nbsp;

The memorial service for Lisa was Thursday, October 27, at Divine Mercy Parish-St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Very Rev. Father Marty Goetz officiating. A time of food and fellowship will be held at St. John's Cafeteria following the service.&nbsp;

Memorials have been established for Hospice House and the Des Moines County Humane Society.&nbsp;

Born September 22, 1956, in Iowa City, she was the daughter of Preston and Pearl Cass Eibeck. She married Richard Bemmer and together they had one son. They later parted ways. On May 26, 1990, she married Timothy Daniel Love in Iowa City. He died December 11, 2020.

When she was able, Nancy worked at various restaurants and bars around the area.&nbsp;

Nancy enjoyed cheering for the Minnesota Vikings and the Iowa Hawkeyes. She loved socializing and made friends everywhere she went.&nbsp;

Survivors include her son, Jason Beemer of Burlington, and sister, Laura Mager of Las Vegas, NV.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.&nbsp;

Nancy will be laid to rest in Keokuk National Cemetery next to her husband Timothy.

Darrell Rector, 83, of Winona, Mo., died  October 13, 2022, in Mountain View, Missouri.&nbsp;

Born March 19, 1939, in Shannon County, Missouri, he was the son of William “Bill” Rector and Ola Bland Rector.&nbsp; 

&nbsp;Darrell grew up on the Current River and got his education in one-room schoolhouses at Roger’s Creek in Carter County and Cardareva in Shannon County. One of Darrell’s first jobs was as a fishing guide on the Current River. That was a joy for him, to earn money doing what he loved. Darrell loved to fish and hunt, and gig with Allen, with Allen frying fish on the river bank. His hunting was by choice with Vernon “Rooster” at the Wilderness. One of his favorite things to do was to drive through Peck Ranch and see the elk and deer.&nbsp;

&nbsp;In 1961, Darrell met and married June Stout of Ellington, Missouri. To this union, four children were born, two sons and two daughters, Debbie, Matt, Pam, and Roger. Shortly after he married June, they moved to Iowa and he took a job with Silas, Mason, and Hanger, an ammunition plant, where he worked for 29 years. Then he moved back to his beloved Ozarks and Current River country.&nbsp;

&nbsp;Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Ola Rector; two brothers, Glenn Rector and Allen Rector; and one sister, Gracie Fox. 

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, his children, Debbie Zimmerman of Marshfield, Mo., Matthew Rector, and Pam Rector both of Burlington, and Roger Rector of Winona, Mo.; six grandchildren, Jacob, Ashlyn, Austin, Courtny, Ian, and Dakota; and four great-grandchildren; five brothers, Charles (Cathy) Rector of Baxter Springs, Kan., Harold Rector of Ellsinore, Mo., Melvin (Naomi) Rector of Dyersburg, Tenn., Vernon of the Irish Wilderness, Mo., and Jerry (Donna) Rector of Teresita, Mo.; three sisters, Mary Manis and Margie Berry both of Winona, Mo., Lorene (Jim) Wright of Thomasville, Mo.; many nieces and nephews; and a host of cousins and friends, all of whom loved him very much.
