Ronald Ervin Miller, 78, of New London, died Saturday, May 3, 2025, at Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House, West Burlington.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was born January 17, 1947, in Maynard, Iowa, to Howard T. and Elsie Henrietta Fisher Miller.&nbsp;&nbsp;On June 19, 1966, he married Nancy Wanda Riepe in New London.&nbsp;&nbsp;She died August 19, 2023.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Ron was a 1965 graduate of New London High School, then graduated from Southeastern Community College and Iowa State University.&nbsp;&nbsp;He taught and coached at New London High School for ten years. Then he began farming and working with Riepe Electric alongside his father-in-law, Wally Riepe, while also doing contracting work with Kirby Moon.&nbsp;&nbsp;Ron loved his cattle; going to Canada on fishing trips; and supporting his children and grandchildren in all their sports and activities.&nbsp;&nbsp;Through the years, he served on the New London School Board, New London Utility Board, the Prairie Ag Coop Board, and was a member of the Ruritans. He was a member of the Trinity Cemetery Board and Black and Gold Backers. He especially enjoyed attending Mardi Gras in New Orleans with his brother, Evan.

Ron is survived by his daughters, Lena (Michael) Jones of New London and Rachel (Jason) Huegel of Ankeny; four grandchildren, Tate and Morgan Jones and Ev and Jayden Huegel; sisters Susan (Jerry) Prottsman and Cynde (Bob) Lemley both of New London; brother Evan (Ellen) Miller of Valdosta, Georgia; sister-in-law Carol (Don) Miller of Washington, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.

A funeral service for Mr. Miller will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, May 9, 2025, at Elliott Chapel, New London, with burial following at Trinity Cemetery, rural Mt. Union.&nbsp;&nbsp;Visitation will begin at noon on Thursday, May 8, at Elliott Chapel with the family greeting friends from 4:00 to 7:00 pm.&nbsp;&nbsp;A memorial has been established for Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Dorothy Carroll Henson, 84, of Dallas City, Illinois, died at 1:15 a.m. Monday, May 5, 2025 at her home. She was born September 28, 1940, in Burlington, the daughter of Karl Fredrick and Marjorie M. (Davey) Ruschill. Dorothy first married Edward E. Kentch. They later divorced. On May 13, 1975, she married Daniel Henson. He preceded her in death on January 21, 2009.

Dorothy was a graduate of Denmark High School. She worked for a short time at the former St. Francis Hospital in Burlington and spent 30 years employed at Sheaffer Pen in Fort Madison, Iowa. Dorothy served as secretary of Ducks Unlimited.&nbsp; She enjoyed shooting pool, bowling, going to the casino and raising flowers. She also liked to dance, shop with friends and joke around with friends and family. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and had fond memories of being on the farm with her dad.

Dorothy is survived by her longtime companion, Stan Markham, two daughters, Carla Kentch of Dallas City and Christi Kentch of Fort Madison along with Stan’s children, Mark (Elizabeth) Markham, Tammy (Brad) Johnson, Troy Markham and Tad (Carrie) Markham.

Also surviving are five grandchildren, Billy Jack Dewein, Blake Rea, Rashei (Will) Stuekerjuergen, Clark Rutledge and Curstin Rutledge, 4 great-grandchildren, Ellee Taylor, Broc Rutledge, Jaylyn Rea and Chase Lovall, one step-great-grandson, Christian Stuekerjuergen, two sisters-in-law, Delores Ruschill and Mary Ruschill both of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one son, Curtis Eugene Kentch, one daughter, Carroll J. “CJ” Kentch, husband, Daniel Henson, great-grandson, Dante Stuekerjuergen, sister, JoAnn Yaley, two brothers, Donald and Jim Ruschill and her dog, “Buddy”.

A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, May 10, 2025 at Banks &amp; Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City with Pastor Jordan Knight officiating. Burial will follow in the Harris Cemetery near Dallas City.

The family will meet with friends Saturday at the funeral home from 2:00 p.m. until time of services. &nbsp;

Barbara Marlene Warth, 80, of Burlington, died Monday, April 28, 2025, at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center. Born Feb. 11, 1945, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Winton and Frances Maxine Poggemiller Metzger. On November 22, 1997, she married Gary Alan Warth in Mediapolis. He passed on April 4, 2011. She attended Yarmouth High School and later graduated with a GED. She worked for Winegard in Burlington for 35 years. She was a faithful member of the Mediapolis Methodist Church.&nbsp; She enjoyed Bible study &amp; Daily Devotionals (Our Daily Bread, The Upper Room), watching TV &amp; online shows (nature, Christian, drama, game, online preaching), driving into town, trips to Amana, and mowing the lawn on the riding lawn mower. Barbara loved spending time with friends and family. She will be remembered for her sweet, kind, caring, giving, loving heart and for her joyful laugh.&nbsp;

Survivors include three sons, Monte (Shelley) Dill, Steven (Abigail) Dill, and Gregory Dill; three stepsons, Kevin (Sarah) Warth, Shawn Warth, and Mark (Karin) Warth; two stepdaughters, Amy Rieckens, and Natalie (Jonathan) Whisler; three grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; one brother, Donnie (Sherri) Metzger; and sister-in-law, Pauline Metzger. Jerry Lee Carlson, 85, of Dallas City, Ill., died Sunday, May 4, 2025, at his home. Jerry was born Oct. 6, 1939, in Dallas City, the son of Lee and Treo Admire Carlson. On Dec. 21, 1962, he married Edna Walker in Carthage, Ill. She survives.

Jerry attended school in Dallas City before enlisting in U.S. Marine Corps. Following his discharge, he worked construction in the Dallas City area. He also built and refinished cabinets and furniture with his brother, Bob. He enjoyed watching Westerns.&nbsp;

Besides his wife, Edna, survivors include two children: Nikki (Richie) Eaves of Nauvoo and Jerry Carlson Jr. of Dallas City and three grandchildren: Reagan Eaves, Kennedy Eaves and Sven Carlson.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by one son: Jason Carlson, one brother: Bob Graham and one sister: Bonnie Webb.&nbsp;

LeRoy Baker, 80, of Burlington, died Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at New London Specialty Care in New London. Born August 10, 1944, in Bethany, Mo., he was the son of Malcolm and Thelma Orfield Baker.

He was a U.S. Navy Veteran, serving from March 24, 1964 until March 21, 1966.

LeRoy worked for Winegard for over 50 years.

LeRoy was a happy man. He was always laughing and joking around. He enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and watching sports, especially Iowa Hawkeye women's basketball and the Chicago Bears. He was a huge Caitlin Clark and Walter Payton fan.&nbsp;

Survivors include his long time partner of 40 years, Joyce Wagner of Burlington; daughter, Angela Wilkerson of Donnellson; step-daughter, Christine Sherrill; step-son, Stephen Wagner both of Burlington; grandchildren, Jerry Stout of Burlington, Samantha (Dustin) Walljasper of Donnellson, Daniel Parrish of Iowa City, Jacob Mincks of Davenport, Jessica Sherrill of Burlington, Christopher Wagner of Burlington, Drew Wilkerson of Texas, Alex Wilkerson of Texas, Caleb Wilkerson of West Burlington, and Lily Wilkerson of Wapello; 11 great grandchildren, Axton, Meika, Brantley, Ryker, Nevaeh, Kastella, Draven, Talion, Thrain, Saffire, and Zay; half sisters, Ruth, Iris, and Eva; two half brothers, Calvin and his wife, Jean West and Charlie West; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Melvin "Mel" Schwartz, 87, of Burlington, died Friday, May 2, 2025, at the University of Iowa Hospitals &amp; Clinics in Iowa City.

He was born in Pittsburgh, Pa. and was the son of Jess Schwartz and Edith Lurie Schwartz. On October 7, 1966, he married Franciene Soltys in Cumberland, MD. She preceded him in death on September 14, 2005, after 39 years of marriage.

He attended high school in Pittsburgh, PA and graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a degree in mechanical engineering. Upon graduation from Pitt, he went on to work for PPG Industries in Pittsburgh, PA and was subsequently employed by PPG for 45 years. During this time, he had permanent assignments in Pittsburgh, Maryland, Texas, Illinois, and Burlington, Iowa. He also had construction, research, and troubleshooting assignments in several Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Ohio, Missouri, Oklahoma, California and Washington plants. While employed by PPG in Pittsburgh, he also served in the Marine Corps Reserves.

In his younger days, he liked to travel and went island hopping through the Bahamas with friends where they did their own navigating.&nbsp; He also toured through Europe and spent time in Hawaii.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Mel was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan. He followed and rooted for the Steelers, Pirates, Penguins and Pitt football and basketball.teams.

He was most proud of his service to the Burlington/West Burlington community and his support of the local United Way, where he served as Campaign Vice Chairman of Manufacturing and Chairman for an Allocation Committee in addition to being a member of the Board of Directors. He also served on the Board of Directors of Junior Achievement and was a member of the Burlington Rotary Club.&nbsp;&nbsp;

He is survived by sons, Jason (Oramai) Schwartz of Chicago, Ill., and Adam (Melanie) Schwartz of Spring, Texas. He is also survived by grandsons, Aidan, Devlan, Gavin, and Dylan Schwartz as well as his brother, Howard (Marce) Schwartz of Pittsburgh, Pa.

The Graveside Committal Service for Mr. Schwartz will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at Aspen Grove Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for the American Cancer Society.

Evelyn Dornberg, 93, of Burlington, Iowa, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2025. &nbsp;

Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, she was the daughter of Arthur and Tess Appleman.&nbsp;

She married Joe Dornberg on November 26, 1955 and celebrated 56 years of marriage until his passing in April of 2012.

Survivors include her daughters, Barb (Ed) Overhake and Judy Leitch; grandchildren, Dana (Tim) Anderson, Erin (Cole) Roberts and Joanna Leitch; great granddaughter Alexis Roberts; great grandson Elliot Anderson and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Sara Schatz and Sylvia Fine Heller and great grandson Mason Roberts.

Frances Jean Lucas, 92, of West Burlington, died Sunday, May 4, 2025, at Oakview Care and Rehabilitation Center in Burlington.

Born April 11, 1933, in Henry County, Iowa, she was the daughter of Archie and Mildred Buck.&nbsp; She married Russell H. Lucas on April 17, 1954 at St. John’s Church of Flint River Township.&nbsp; He preceded her in death November 27, 2009.

Jean worked for Sylvania, Neisner’s Five and Dime and later for several years for K-Mart until her retirement in 1996.

She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church.&nbsp; She loved to travel, with her favorite destination being Las Vegas, taking cruises, playing cards and loved cooking for church functions and her family.&nbsp; She enjoyed her lunch dates with her dear friend Tammy Kuster and adored her grandchildren and loved spending time with them.&nbsp;

She is survived by her two children; Connie Smith of Bonaparte, Iowa and Randy Lucas of West Burlington; grandchildren, Clint (Angela) Smith, Mindy Smith, Melissa (Brad) Selby, J. R. (Lucy) Baughman and Shannon (Brian) Whittaker; great grandchildren, Koy, Brody (Olivia), Conner, Afton, Courtney (Cody), Payton, Jarid (Leah), Jayden, Alex (Megan), Arin (Trey), Cody and great-great grandchildren, Koa, Saige, Adalynn, Brooklyn, Ryin, Rylan, Alissa, Ada and Kingston.

Francis Jean Lucas

Myrna Lougee Vaughan Zabloudil, 87, passed away on Thursday, May 1, 2025 at her home. She was born on Sept. 12, 1937, to Roy Lougee Vaughan and Geneva Ethel Murphy Vaughan. She lived in Burlington her entire life.&nbsp;

She taught music at Horace Mann Junior High for 32 years.

Myrna attended school in Burlington when it was located on the top story of the old High School on Valley Street. She then went to the University of Iowa to major in music; graduating in 1959. While in college, she played violin in the orchestra for two years under director, James Dixon. She taught one year in Chariton, Iowa and then became a teacher in the same school she attended as a child.&nbsp;

Along with teaching, she began writing music. She wrote and produced a ninth grade operetta entitled "Rapunzel, Rapunzel, Let Down Your Hair". She was the choir director for First United Methodist Church for over 20 years. When the church purchased seven octaves of English Hand-bells, she became the director, and wrote and arranged many hymns. Myrna composed "Jubilation" which was chosen to be played at the Hand-bell National Convention in Oklahoma. Myrna also wrote a selection for the Delta Queen and the Mississippi Queen, and got to play the calliope when it entered Burlington. She composed an additional hand-bell piece entitled "Ring of Peace", a selection which is played by two, three-octave hand-bell choirs who play antiphonally (answering each other) on different sides of the First United Methodist Church balcony.&nbsp;

Myrna loved the outdoors and all of nature. She was a 10 year member of the Master Gardeners and also belonged to the Great River Garden Club.&nbsp;

On April 16, 1990, she married Dr. Warren Charles Zabloudil. He preceded her in death on Nov. 30, 2012.&nbsp;

She is survived by her second cousin, David Vaughan.

Besides her husband, Myrna was preceded in death by her parents, and sister, Beverly Jane.&nbsp;

The memorial service for Mrs. Zabloudil will be 10 a.m. Friday, May 9, 2025, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street, with Pastor DaMisha McFarland-Pollock officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow at Aspen Grove Cemetery.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Lucille was a very caring, loving and strong woman. &nbsp;She was very hardworking and owned her own hair salon, Hairstyles by Lucille in Wever, for many years. &nbsp;She loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren deeply and was always willing to help them in what ways she could.&nbsp; Her kindness and compassion will be missed, but her legacy will continue on through all who loved her.

Survivors include three sons, Jeff Hogberg, Jim (Tamyra) Hogberg, and Jerry (Alma) Hogberg; two daughters, Jody (Paul) Lyon, and Judee (Robert) Hogberg; eighteen grandchildren, three great grandchildren, four step grandchildren, sister-in-law, Maxine Conn, and brother-in-law, Dean Wehrle.

Besides her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Ernest and Wilson Conn, and three sisters, Bonnie Sout, Virginia (Earl) Clingingsmith and Janet Wehrle.

Frankie enjoyed reading and watching shows about WWII and history. He was a collector of military memorabilia and always enjoyed shopping for items which he collected. He loved his cats and dogs. Most of all Frankie loved sitting outside and being with his family.

He is survived by his two nieces: Yolanda (Jody) Hummer and Lisa Ament; one great niece; three great nephews and one brother in-law Lynn Ament.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robin Johnson in infancy, brother Robert Johnson and sister Debbie Johnson.

Per his wishes cremation has been entrusted and accorded to the care of Lunning Chapel. Burial will be held at a later date.

Frank "Frankie" Johnson

Jerry Thayne Fenton Sr., of Burlington, died Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at home. Jerry was born in Plano, Iowa, the son of Doris Fenton and Ruth Fenton Stigge. On Jan. 9, 1965, he married Linda Kay Shepherd in Burlington.

Jerry was raised in the Centerville, Iowa, area. He was a proud union laborer at American Ordinance for 45 years.

Jerry was everyone’s favorite! Favorite brother, favorite uncle, favorite cousin, favorite friend, and the BEST dad! His kid’s longtime friends always called him dad. Until his brother Verle’s passing, Jerry could always be found by his side. Jerry loved his family and attended all his grandchildren’s events. One of his favorite things to do was pick up his granddaughter Lily every day from school, until she was old enough to drive.

Jerry enjoyed watching NASCAR to the annoyance of his wife, whom he adored and was a wonderful caretaker to. They enjoyed watching old westerns together. He and Linda celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary in January. He loved his home and liked working in his yard, where he planted many beautiful trees. He could also be found in one of his garages watching his buddy Jeff work on his many vehicles.

Those who are left to share his legacy include his wife; his children: Jerry Fenton Jr., Jennifer Schuster (Ed Pence), and Julie “Birdy” Fenton (Rebecca), all of Burlington. Two grandchildren: Samantha (John) Butts of Salem, Iowa, and Lily Schuster of Waterloo, Iowa. Three great grandchildren: Roselea, Wyatt, and Lane Butts. Brother: Gary Fenton (Janice) of Burlington. Brothers-in-law Marion Main of Moravia, Iowa and Tim Shepherd of Keithsburg, Illinois. Sisters-in-law Dana Shepherd of Colo, Iowa and Margie Shepherd Reed of Parkersburg, WV. Ex-son-in-law Joe Schuster. Close cousin, David Fenton (Jean) of Moravia, Iowa and honorary son Jeff Brewer of Burlington, Iowa. Several loved nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather Harry Stigge; brother Verle Fenton, sisters Marjorie McVey and Bonnie Main; brothers-in-law Bobby Shepherd and Dr. Donald Shepherd; and sisters-in-law Frances Fenton and Vicki Shepherd.

Peggy Lou Nichols, 94, of Burlington, died Monday, April 29, 2025, at the Wapello Specialty Care Center in Wapello.

Born April 4, 1931, in Hopkins, Mo., she was the daughter of Irvin Albert and Louise Agnes Lawler. She married Fred Charles Nichols on June 28, 1947, in Burlington. He died July 24, 2009.

Peggy worked as an inspector for Lamont Limited for 17 years until her retirement in 1993. Prior to that she worked as a waitress for many years.

She was attended First Christian Church – Disciples of Christ for many years before her decline in health. She loved to read, play bingo, work puzzles, flowers and watching cardinals. Most importantly she loved her time spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is survived by her four children; Teresa Ann Nichols (Doug) Brockway of Scottsdale, Arizona, Kevin Allen Nichols of Ventura, California, Steven Charles Nichols and Jeffrey Scott Nichols both of Burlington; six grandchildren, eight great&nbsp; grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers and one sister.

Peggy Lou Nichols

Rick L. Philpott, 74, of Burlington, died Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at OakView Nursing and Rehab in Burlington.

Born on July 15, 1950, in Burlington, Iowa, he was the son of Everett and Virginia Kindig Philpott. On June 2, 1968, in Burlington, Iowa, he married Susan Gallagher.

Rick worked for J.I. Case for forty-two years before he retired. He was of Christian faith and was dedicated to always serving the Lord. In his early years he enjoyed taking motorcycle rides with his wife and friends. He and Susan still enjoyed taking day trips or just going for a drive. In his free time, he enjoyed working in his yard and planting shrubs and trees. He had a special gift to be able to fix anything and was quite the handyman. He loved nothing more than being with his family and would never pass up an opportunity to spend time together.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years Susan; three children: Christy (Fran) Torri of Grove City, Ohio, Jason (Jessie) Philpott of Burlington, Iowa and Kendra (Eric) Crawford of West Burlington, Iowa; four grandchildren: Patrick and Alexandria Smith and Jacob and Joshua Philpott; one great grandson Caleb Smith and brother Randy Philpott of Burlington, Iowa. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters and a brother.

The funeral for Rick will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 5, 2025, at Lunning Chapel with Jeremy Bonnesen and Dan Dingus officiating. A one-hour visitation will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 5, 2025, at Lunning Chapel, where the family will meet with friends. Interment will be held in Aspen Grove Cemetery following the service.

On June 2, 1968, in Burlington, Iowa, he married Susan Gallagher.Rick worked for J.I. Case for forty-two years before he retired. He was of Christian faith and was dedicated to always serving the Lord. In his early years he enjoyed taking motorcycle rides with his wife and friends. He and Susan still enjoyed taking day trips or just going for a drive. In his free time, he enjoyed working in his yard and planting shrubs and trees. He had a special gift to be able to fix anything and was quite the handyman. Doris Marie Johnson, 94, of Burlington, Iowa, peacefully passed away at home on Monday, April 28, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

Doris was born on Nov. 20, 1930 in Burlington. She attended Burlington Schools through 8th grade. She worked at the “Burlington Glove Factory,” where she met her husband-to-be, to- be Kyle “Dude” Johnson. Doris and Dude raised their family in Burlington.

In the early 80’s, after raising their children, they moved to the farm Dude grew up on in Drakesville, only later returning to Burlington in 2015 due to Dudes health issues.

She was a homemaker. She loved vacationing, playing cards, and family gatherings were a favorite pastime. Her favorite holiday was Christmas. Giving brought her such joy. During those times you never saw Doris without her camera. She and Dude rarely missed attending their children and grandchildren’s activities.

She had a big heart and loved all unconditionally. She welcomed all into the family. She was generous beyond measure. She came from humble beginnings, but was willing to help anyone in need. She loved to cook for family and all who stopped by. Fried foods, macaroni and cheese, and hamburger gravy were her specialties. Everyone was welcome at their farm.

She is survived by daughters, Vickie Hull, Jane Eslami both of Burlington, Iowa and sons Keith (Elaine) Johnson of Burlington Iowa, and Kenny (Barb) Johnson of Drakesville, Iowa; 19 grandchildren; 41 great grandchildren and 24 great-great grandchildren with 3 more on the way; many nieces and nephews and one brother-in-law Frank Johnson of Burlington.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband; parents; 2 brothers; and 2 infant children.

Her legacy will live on “All because two people fell in love”.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 2, at Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends. The funeral service for Doris will be 10 a.m. Saturday, May 3 at Lunning Chapel. Burial will follow at Burington Memorial Park Cemetery.

James enjoyed flying radio controlled airplanes, fishing, deep sea fishing when he lived in Florida, and going to 34 Raceways. He loved all things racing, especially NASCAR and was an avid Kyle Larson fan.&nbsp; Survivors include his son, Quentin Adam Rogers; two grandchildren, Catarina and Garrett Rogers; brother, Jerry Wayne Rogers of Burlington; and two nephews. Thomas Joseph “Tom” Harvey,&nbsp;65, of West Point passed away at 4:06 p.m. Monday, April 28, 2025, at his home.

He was born on November 19, 1959 in Fort Madison, Iowa, the son of Francis M. “Frank” and Elizabeth L. “Betty” (Buckert) Harvey.

Survivors include four brothers: Jim (Margie) Harvey of Neenah, Wisconsin, Don (Patty) Harvey of Montrose, Iowa, Jerry Harvey of West Point, Iowa, Pat Harvey of West Point, Iowa; one sister: Pam (Chad) Kesselring of Montrose, Iowa; uncle and aunt: Larry and Cheryl Buckert and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters-in-law: Karla and Kara Harvey; several aunts and uncles.

Tom was a 1978 graduate of Marquette High School. He enjoyed sports and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Iowa State Cyclone fan. Tom especially enjoyed playing softball, reading books and history. He looked forward to holidays.

A visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Friday, May 2, 2025, at Schmitz Funeral Home in West Point.

Miles "Butch" Lamont Carter, 75, of Burlington, died Thursday, April 24, 2025, at his home in Burlington. Born June 21, 1949, in Saint Louis, Mo., he was the son of Bernard and Doretha Rankin Carter. On Oct. 6, 2000, he married Linda Strickland in Des Moines.&nbsp;

He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving from August 9, 1968 until April 9, 1971.

Butch worked various positions in production, his last employment was Antenna Craft.

He was a member of Apostolic Holiness Temple and was just baptized on April 6, 2025. He was very artistic and enjoyed painting and photography. He loved watching movies and listening to music. Butch also liked cars and was a great cook.&nbsp;

Survivors include his wife, Linda Carter; his children, Alisha Carter, Semenya Carter, Myles Bernard Carter, and Nick Charles Carter; a host of grandchildren; two sisters, Josephine Gipson and Neregin (Marvin) Cummings; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Shannon Lamont Carter, two brothers, Bernard "Chuck" Carter Jr. and John Jeffery, and sister Ann Mae Pickens.

Visitation will be from 11 p.m. until noon, Friday, May 2, 2025, at Apostolic Holiness Temple.

George Joseph Weingart, 90, of Burlington, died Monday, April 28, 2025, at the Klein Center.

Born May 3, 1934, in Burlington, he was the son of George "Socky" Rudolph and Gertrude Emma Popp Weingart. On May 14, 1960, he married Marilyn Frances Levins in St. Mary's Catholic Church in West Burlington. She passed on January 27, 2018.

He was a graduate of Burlington High School, where he participated in many actives including the hurdles in track and basketball. He was proud to serve as the vice president of his senior class. Following high school he served in the United States Navy.

George worked as a lineman for Northwestern Bell for many years.

George was a member of Divine Mercy Parish- St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Cascade Boating Association and a past member of the Sportsman Club. He enjoyed nature and the outdoors; fishing, duck hunting, eagle watching, and car rides through the parks and by the river. He was very active in sports in his youth and liked to cheer on many sports teams on TV. Most of all, George loved visiting with friends and family. He always had a story to share.&nbsp;

Survivors include three daughters, Katherine Ann (John) Ita of Mt Pleasant, Ann Marie (Chris) Smith of Burlington and Diane Marie (Rick) John of Burlington; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents.&nbsp;

James Michael Sleister, 74, of West Burlington, passed away peacefully on April 28, 2025, at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center Hospice House.

Born and raised on a farm just outside Manilla, Iowa, James carried the values of hard work, humility and deep-rooted family pride with him throughout his life. James spent his career in education, ultimately serving as a school superintendent for the West Burlington Independent School District. He believed deeply in the power of learning and worked hard to support students, teachers, and families throughout his district. His leadership was steady, thoughtful and always guided by heart.

Beyond his professional life, James gave generously of his time and talents to causes that mattered to him. He was an active member of Friends of the Hospital, the United Way, and the Kiwanis Club.

At home, James was happiest surrounded by his family. He lit up whenever he heard about his grandchildren’s latest adventures, accomplishments, or even everyday stories. He could build just about anything—from garage shelves to backyard playsets. He had a talent for cooking and an even bigger love for sharing meals, often seasoned with his signature corny jokes that never failed to make someone groan—and then laugh.

Genealogy was a quiet passion of his, and he took great pride in tracing the family’s roots and sharing its stories. But above all else, James cherished Sheila, his wife of 48 years and his two daughters, Tasha and Mary. His love was unwavering, his support constant and his presence a true gift to everyone who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, service, humor and love. He will be deeply missed, fondly remembered and forever in our hearts.

James is survived by his wife, Sheila; two daughters: Tasha (Matt) Troha and Mary (Patrick) Manshiem; six grandchildren: Caleb, Keegan, Addison, Hadley, Reese and Eliana. Other survivors include brothers David (Pricilla) Sleister and Dennis Sleister, sisters Paulette (Ray) Hammer, Kathy Oliver and many special cousins.

James Sleister

Raymond D. Wynn, age 94, was called home to Heaven on April 27, 2025. Ray was born July 28, 1930, to Sam and Margaret (Penn) Wynn in the town of Prescott, Iowa.&nbsp; He graduated from Burlington High School. He was an expert rock climber and gunner in the Army, serving in the Korean War as a Sergeant.&nbsp; He returned to Burlington and married Doris Rosa (Close) Wynn in 1951. They were married for 63 years. Doris went to be with the Lord in 2014. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, one sister and two brothers. Ray was a gifted salesman. He retired as District Sales Manager of MoorMans Feed Company. He was an avid commercial fisherman. He wove his own fish nets, incorporating his name into them. His nets are still being used in the Mississippi River to this day. Ray was a member, deacon and elder at Harmony Bible Church, Danville, Iowa for approximately 40 years. He attended Burlington Baptist Church for the last 20 years. His greatest passion was sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ by having a conversation or handing out a tract that explained the importance of being saved.&nbsp; Ray and Doris were self-taught gardeners and enjoyed planting huge gardens. They found joy in sharing food with others.&nbsp; Affectionately known as "The Candy Man", he loved passing out wrapped candy to everyone he met.&nbsp; Ray &amp; Doris were blessed with 7 children. He always thought that the number “7” was the “perfect” number since that number was mentioned so many times in the Bible. Ray loved the Lord, his wife, his children and family. Ray is survived by his 7 children, Melinda (Dick) Averbeck, Gary (Dosh) Wynn, Marcia (Frank) Bishop, Sarah Wynn, Jonathan (JoAnn) Wynn, Rachel Zaliwski and Samuel Wynn; 14 grandchildren, Nathan (Christina) Averbeck, Micah (Jenna) Averbeck, Allison (Matt) Williams, Hillary (Mike) Hayes, Abigail (Robert) McCracken, Tyler Bishop, Jenee (Matt) Marchetti, Garrett (Erin) Bishop, Wynn (Lauren) Bishop, Garrison Luke Wynn, Andrea (Jon) Schmitz, Megan (Andrew) Spring, Lori Chase, &nbsp;Amanda (Steven) Norris and Jessica (Nick) Giorgione; 33 great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Margaret Curry and Patsy Bessine. Prugh Funeral Service is in care of the arrangements. A memorial service will be held for Ray at Burlington Baptist Church on Saturday, May 3. The time to visit his children and families will be from 10-11 a.m. with the service beginning at 11 a.m. Full military honors will be rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard. Interment will be immediately following the service at Aspen Grove Cemetery.

 </figure>Raymond D. Wynn, age 94, was called home to Heaven on April 27, 2025. Ray was born July 28, 1930, to Sam and Margaret (Penn) Wynn in the town of Prescott, Iowa.&nbsp; He graduated from Burlington High School. He was an expert rock climber and gunner in the Army, serving in the Korean War as a Sergeant.&nbsp; He returned to Burlington and married Doris Rosa (Close) Wynn in 1951. They were married for 63 years. Doris went to be with the Lord in 2014. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, one sister and two brothers. Ray was a gifted salesman. He retired as District Sales Manager of MoorMans Feed Company. He was an avid commercial fisherman. He wove his own fish nets, incorporating his name into them. His nets are still being used in the Mississippi River to this day. Ray was a member, deacon and elder at Harmony Bible Church, Danville, Iowa for approximately 40 years. He attended Burlington Baptist Church for the last 20 years. His greatest passion was sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ by having a conversation or handing out a tract that explained the importance of being saved.&nbsp; Ray and Doris were self-taught gardeners and enjoyed planting huge gardens. They found joy in sharing food with others.&nbsp; Affectionately known as "The Candy Man", he loved passing out wrapped candy to everyone he met.&nbsp; Ray &amp; Doris were blessed with 7 children. He always thought that the number “7” was the “perfect” number since that number was mentioned so many times in the Bible. Ray loved the Lord, his wife, his children and family. Larry R. Krebill,&nbsp;87, of Donnellson, Iowa, passed away at 2:10 p.m. Sunday, April 27, 2025, at the Clark County Nursing Home in Kahoka, Missouri. He was born on November 18, 1937, in rural Donnellson, Iowa, the son of Robert and Leota (Rings) Krebill. On August 16, 1959, he married Nadine J. Wilson at St. Peters United Church of Christ in Franklin, Iowa.

He is survived by his two daughters: Audrey (Linus) Krogmeier of Congerville, Illinois, Natalie (Pete) Knezevich of North Liberty, Iowa; one son: Jeffrey (Amy) Krebill of Donnellson, Iowa; eight grandsons: Paul, Brian, Daniel, Nicholas, Joseph, Thomas, Jacob and Elijah; five great grandchildren: Case and Axel Krogmeier, Chenoa Spears, Grant and Lynn Krogmeier and one brother: Vernon (Margaret) Krebill of Donnellson, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his wife: Nadine; parents; two brothers: Gary and Leron; one sister: Geraldine Stice.

Larry was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Fort Madison. He served on the church council, the Lee County Fair Board and was a Franklin Township trustee. Larry was a lifelong farmer and had a love of the land, which he started farming with his brother. He and his brother also owned and operated the Krebill Bros. Cornsheller and in later years, he continued farming with his son. Along with farming, Larry also enjoyed attending his eight grandsons sporting events and spending time with his family.

A visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 2, 2025, at Schmitz Funeral Home in Donnellson. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 2, 2025, at Schmitz Funeral Home in Donnellson with Martha Wolf officiating. Burial will be held at a later date at Evangelical Cemetery in Donnellson. A memorial has been established in his memory for Donnellson Fire and Rescue.

&nbsp;Pauline Elizabeth Myers peacefully took her final breath surrounded by loved ones on Saturday, April 26, 2025 &nbsp;in her home. Born Oct. 3, 1931, in Illinois, she was one of 13 children to the late John and Ora Hulet Seins. Later in life, she was blessed to be reconnected with her high school sweetheart Jimmy Myers, and they were married for 11 years before he passed in June of 2022.

In Pauline's younger years, she enjoyed bar tending. She was the head cook at the Mediapolis Care Facility, and she cared for the elderly for 29 years. Pauline enjoyed bowling, sewing, fishing, camping, gardening, and later in life, going down to Hamilton Missouri to her grandsons' James and Brandon McKinney's restaurant.&nbsp;

Pauline leaves behind her beloved family; her children, Paula Carnes, Paul (Debbie) Carnes, Teena (Jim) McKinney, Matt (Tina) Shafer, and Amy Shafer; granddaughters, Brigitte (Chris) Davis and Nina Covert; several other grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

She was proceeded in death by her parents, 12 siblings, her oldest son Frank Carnes, daughter-in-law Rusty Carnes, two great grandchildren, her husband Jimmy, and several nieces and nephews&nbsp;

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

The Graveside Committal Service for Mrs. Myers will be 11 a.m. Thursday, May 8, 2025, at Biggsville Cemetery. Those wishing to attend the service can meet at the Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street, prior to the service for a procession departing at 10:30 a.m. to the cemetery.
