Nancy Kay Tucker, 72, of Burlington, passed away peacefully on Nov. 28, 2024. Born Nov. 27, 1952, she was the daughter of Donn Dennis and Doris Naomi Cox Myers.

Nancy was known for her vibrant spirit and her deep commitment to her family.&nbsp; She was married to Jimmie Lee Tucker on July 25, 1972, and was a devoted mother to her four children; Eric (Trina) Tucker, Chris (Shari) Tucker, Jennifer Tucker and Brian (Wendy) Tucker; grandmother to Nathaniel Tucker, Chandler Tucker, Allison Tucker, Isaiah Tucker, Madison Tucker, Katherine Tucker, Jadaka Porter, Angeleena Porter, Klayton Tucker, Trevor Davis and Tori Davis and was a proud foster parent to many children.

Nancy took immense pride in her role as a mother and grandmother, finding joy in the lives of her family.&nbsp; Nancy’s warmth and kindness were felt by all who knew her.&nbsp; Her laughter and positivity brightened the lives of those around her.

In addition to her children, Nancy is survived by her brothers Herb Bindel and Dennis Myers and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will miss her dearly.&nbsp;

She is preceded in death by her parents Herb and Doris Bindel, Donn and Lora Myers, her husband Jimmie and her brother David Myers.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7 at the UAW Local 807 Hall, 9313 Koestner St., Burlington.&nbsp; A memorial has been established for the Christmore Family Treatment Center.

According to her wishes, cremation has been entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.

Andrew Joseph Stout, 38, died Thursday, Nov. 21, 2024. Born on May 14, 1986, in Burlington he was the son of William Joseph and Connie Elaine Stout. 

Andrew was a mechanic. He enjoyed working on cars, mudding in his truck, loved his sound system and life.

Survivors include: his fiancé, Jessica Lipper and her daughter Shelby Lipper of Burlington; brother, Troy Phillips of Burlington; Aunts, Uncles including Kathy Murphy and Larry Stout of Burlington; cousins including special cousin Brandi Boyle of Burlington; and lifelong friends, Chris Lamb, Gayle Palmer and Paul Marsden.

There will be no funeral services held at this time for Andrew Joseph Stout. Celebration of Andrew’s life will be held at a later date. Cremation has been accorded and in care of Lunning Chapel.

Darlene Fern Graham, 87 of Burlington, died Sunday, Nov. 24, 2024, at Klein Center in West Burlington. Born June 13, 1937, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Robert and Fern Moore Graham.

Darlene is survived by a sister Florence McMahon and brother Jerry Graham, three children Ronald Richardson, Rebecca Nelson, and Rocky (Dana) Brock. Also surviving are her grandchildren Angela (Justice) Shoemaker, RJ (Lynn) Richardson, Mike Crow, Tyler (Taylor) Nelson, Blake (Calli) Brock, Taylor (Keiten) Newberry, Kelly (Andrew) Schleisman, Stephanie (Joseph) Sbarro, Olivia Brock, and Kevin Brock. She is also survived by twelve great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

She was proceeded in death by her son Rob Brock, her parents Robert and Fern Graham, her brothers Robert Graham, and Michael Graham.

Stephaine L. Dingman, 78, of Burlington, died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2024, at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born on Sept. 15, 1946, in Moline, Ill., she was the daughter of Francis and Bernice Strahn. On Dec. 3, 1960, she married Donald D. Dingman. He preceded her in death on Sept. 1, 2016.

Stephanie enjoyed crocheting, reading and watching CSI Miami. Most of all she loved being with her cats.

She is survived by her three daughters: Becky Douglas, Michelle (Mike Wallerich) Dingman and Mindy Dingman; five grandchildren: Michael, Amber, Kris, Zach and Autumn; eight great grandchildren: Norah, Ella, Finnick, Theo, Jaxon, Jameson, Ronald and Oaklynne. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Donald and sister Sherry Wade.

Per her wishes cremation had been entrusted and accorded to the care of Lunning Chapel. No services will be held at this time.

Debbie Ann Johnson, 69, of Burlington, died unexpectedly Nov. 27, 2024, in West Burlington. Born Oct. 13, 1955, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Wayne Carroll and Patricia Ann Johnson. She married Lynn Ament on Sept. 25, 1972.

Debbie worked for Shearer’s for 17 years until her retirement.

She loved her animals which included chickens, birds, cats and dogs. Her favorite past times were shopping Amazon, drinking Mt. Dew, hanging out with her granddaughter and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her constant companion Lynn Ament; two daughters Yolanda (Jody) Hummer and Lisa Ament; five grandchildren, Anthony Burns, Brandon Ament, Angel Ament, Cameron Ament and Alysah Rodriguez and brother Frank Johnson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Robert Johnson and sister Robin Johnson in infancy.

Debbie Ann Johnson

On Nov. 14, 2024, Jerry Dean Eident, 71, of rural Mason, Ill., completed his baptism and received the fulfillment of God’s promise at UP Medical Center Western Maryland, Cumberland, Md., during a trip with his wife, Jeannie, to visit family.

Jerry was born on July 4, 1953, to Charles “Chuck” Eident and Velna “Peggy” Towles Eident in Effingham, Ill. He spent his childhood in Mason and Watson, Ill., and was educated at the local schools. Jerry graduated from Effingham High School in 1971. He was a lifelong member of Mason Christian Church, Mason, Ill., where he served as a deacon, an elder, and a supply preacher.

On Sept. 3, 1977, he married Wanda Jean “Jeannie” Brady at Mason Christian Church. Jerry and Jeannie’s families lived on adjacent properties in rural Watson for many years, so he did marry the girl next door! The couple soon moved to a five-acre plot of land in rural Mason to build a home and raise their family.

Jerry worked for Conrail/CSX as a signal maintainer beginning in 1975. Many years of hard work and long hours took their toll, and he retired in 1999. For the past 24 years, he worked side-by-side with Jeannie in the kitchen at Oil Belt Christian Service Camp in Flora, Ill., where he perfected his fried chicken recipe in addition to his many other culinary accomplishments.

Jerry was somewhat of a Renaissance man and enjoyed a variety of hobbies and interests. At one time, he was a dedicated ping-pong enthusiast and hosted weekly raucous tournaments in the basement of the family home that would go into the late hours of the night. He was a skilled home cook and baker and was renowned for his cinnamon rolls, thin-crust pizzas, and ice creams of all flavors.

He dabbled in woodworking, carving duck decoys, and building Shut-the-Box games. After the children left home, he converted a spare bedroom into his study/library, complete with bookshelves he built from barn wood and old church pews and stuffed with antique and first-edition books — many of them books of poetry.

Poetry was a great passion of his, and he self-published three books of original poems. He was also known for sending poems of comfort and encouragement to those in need. One of his poems, “Old Foundations,” is on display at the Effingham County Courthouse Museum. His final Christmas poem, a treasured annual tradition, was completed shortly before his death. He also authored/co-authored three books on local history. Even as a young man, he had a passion for the “old ways” and did what he could to preserve that wisdom. He was a person of deep faith and convictions and lived his life according to those principles.

Jerry is survived by Jeannie, his wife of 47 years; children, Stacey (Jeff) Abell of Burlington, Iowa, Sam (Kara) Eident of Charleston, Ill., and Susan (Jon) Stratton of Bethlehem, Pa.; grandchildren, Gus and Wanna Eident of Charleston, Ill., and Alice, Frank, and Harry Stratton of Bethlehem, Pa.; siblings, Richard (Joy) Eident of Mattoon, Ill., Helen (Dave) Weaver of Altamont, Ill., Janet (Ray) Byrd of Marion, N.C., and Barb (Virgil) Brazle of Abingdon, Md., as well as many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In death, he is reunited with his beloved parents; his infant brother, Lawrence; and countless other family members and friends who have gone on before.

Jerry was a tissue donor, and his gift will be used to help many individuals with serious and life-threatening medical conditions.

Services were held at Mason Christian Church on Saturday, Nov. 23, 2024. A graveside service followed in Mason Cemetery. Donations may be made in his memory to Mason Christian Church and Oil Belt Christian Service Camp.&nbsp;

Roger Allen Dowell, 77, of Lomax, died Friday, Nov. 22, 2024, at the Mercer Manor Rehabilitation in Aledo.

Born March 1, 1947, in La Harpe, Ill., he was the son of Cleo Benjamin and Edith Marcella Miller Dowell. &nbsp;

Roger worked as an inspector for Ross Manufacturing. He also worked as a handyman around the area.&nbsp;

He enjoyed spending time outdoors or finding great deals at auctions or sales. He had a great singing voice. Roger was a very giving, witty and personable man. He was very devoted to his family, especially his mother.&nbsp;

Survivors include four sisters, Theresa Kaye Snowden of Burlington, and her children; Bradley, Bruce and Gina, sister, Tanya Chewning of Kirkwood, Ill., and her children Antonia and Frankie, sister, Marsha A. Trout of Stronghurst, Ill., and her son Chris, sister Dawn (Darran) Dowell Reverend of Burlington, and her children, Laura, Tara and Dustin; additional nieces and nephews, Marcella, Schlena, Harley, Nicole, Axel, Levi, Marchele, Christina, Kevin and Brett. Roger is survived by his long time life companion Jan Todd and her daughter, Trina (Randy) Scull, three grandchildren, Kaleb (Krisden) Todd, Hanna Nail and Jenna Nail, four great grandchildren. He is also survived by a honorary son, Roger Dowell and many other people who looked up to him as a father figure.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers Richard Duane, Randall Lewis, Benny Leon, and Tommy Warren Dowell and one sister, Joan Elaine Gerling

Roger Allen Dowell

John Kristian "Kris" Carter, 55, of Wever, born Jan. 5, 1969, in Farmington, New Mexico; passed away Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2024.

He was a hard worker as an arborist, with a vast knowledge and passion to learn and teach others as much as he could about the various species of trees. He had a deep love and appreciation for astronomy, anything of the geographical sciences and weather phenomenon. &nbsp;He enjoyed watching the night sky with the knowledge to point out the various constellations, comets, and celestial bodies. At any given time, you could catch him down by the river enjoying the peace of nature while listening to the music that soothed his soul with a beer in one hand and a cigarette in his mouth. In the evenings it wasn't uncommon to catch him watching the original Godzilla series or ways the world could end on YouTube. &nbsp;

One of Kris’ greatest pleasures was spending time with those closest to him that he considered family. He loved practicing bow target shooting with his friends and his daughter to refine his skills. His free time could be spent on the golf course with Dustin Scarf, Josh Burns, and Michael Schmitz. You almost never found Carter without Joel Thompson and Michael Thomes close by, whether it be working side by side, helping each other’s families, bickering like brothers, or creating mischief. They were always keeping each other busy and entertained.

Above all else, Kris loved his family. &nbsp;His daughter was his world, and his favorite loser. Fishing always brought out the rivalry between them in who could catch the biggest fish and who would be eating the catch that night. His mom was always his number one supporter in life. He was amused by getting her out of her comfort zone with a cold one. They also enjoyed going on scenic drives to talk about life together.

Kris' passing leaves a deep emptiness. He felt a deep fulfillment from giving to others and making their lives easier in whatever way he could. But his kindness, compassion and infectious laugher and humor will continue on through everyone who's life has been touched by him.&nbsp;

Kris's family include his daughter, Cassie (Joel Thompson) Carter; mother Kay Blind; brothers, John &nbsp;(Ginger) Carter, and John Kevin (Melinda) Carter; numerous nieces and nephews; Uncle Gary (the late Joyce) Hicks; and his tree trimming family and numerous friends.

Cremation has been entrusted to Prugh Funeral Service.

The family will receive guests for visitation on Saturday, Nov. 30 from 1-3 p.m. at Prugh Funeral Service (3940 Division Street, Burlington), concluding with a prayer at 3 p.m.

 </figure>John Kristian "Kris" Carter, 55, of Wever, born Jan. 5, 1969, in Farmington, New Mexico; passed away Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2024.He was a hard worker as an arborist, with a vast knowledge and passion to learn and teach others as much as he could about the various species of trees. He had a deep love and appreciation for astronomy, anything of the geographical sciences and weather phenomenon. &nbsp;He enjoyed watching the night sky with the knowledge to point out the various constellations, comets, and celestial bodies. At any given time, you could catch him down by the river enjoying the peace of nature while listening to the music that soothed his soul with a beer in one hand and a cigarette in his mouth. In the evenings it wasn't uncommon to catch him watching the original Godzilla series or ways the world could end on YouTube. &nbsp;One of Kris’ greatest pleasures was spending time with those closest to him that he considered family. He loved practicing bow target shooting with his friends and his daughter to refine his skills. His free time could be spent on the golf course with Dustin Scarf, Josh Burns, and Michael Schmitz. You almost never found Carter without Joel Thompson and Michael Thomes close by, whether it be working side by side, helping each other’s families, bickering like brothers, or creating mischief. They were always keeping each other busy and entertained.Above all else, Kris loved his family. &nbsp;His daughter was his world, and his favorite loser. Fishing always brought out the rivalry between them in who could catch the biggest fish and who would be eating the catch that night. His mom was always his number one supporter in life. He was amused by getting her out of her comfort zone with a cold one. They also enjoyed going on scenic drives to talk about life together.Kris' passing leaves a deep emptiness. He felt a deep fulfillment from giving to others and making their lives easier in whatever way he could. But his kindness, compassion and infectious laugher and humor will continue on through everyone who's life has been touched by him.&nbsp;Kris's family include his daughter, Cassie (Joel Thompson) Carter; mother Kay Blind; brothers, John &nbsp;(Ginger) Carter, and John Kevin (Melinda) Carter; numerous nieces and nephews; Uncle Gary (the late Joyce) Hicks; and his tree trimming family and numerous friends.Cremation has been entrusted to Prugh Funeral Service.The family will receive guests for visitation on Saturday, Nov. 30 from 1-3 p.m. at Prugh Funeral Service (3940 Division Street, Burlington), concluding with a prayer at 3 p.m.Please continue to keep Kris' family in your prayers during this difficult time.

Roert M. Fleming, Jr., 93, of Burlington, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2024, in Lone Tree, Colo. while visiting family.

Born on March 28, 1931 in Burlington, he was the son of Robert and Mary Finnegan Fleming. He married Patricia J. Trautner on April 24, 1954, and together had five children. After her passing, he found love again, marrying Anita McKaughan Jochims on July 12, 2002, because Bob always knew how to choose a winning partner.&nbsp;

Bob graduated from St. Paul’s Catholic School and then the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass. His education took a brief pause when he decided to serve his country as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force at Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne, Wyo. After his military service he returned home to the University of Iowa, graduating with a Business Administration degree in 1956. He has remained a loyal Hawkeye fan ever since and will continue to cheer them on from heaven “forevermore”.

Bob began his professional career with The Winegard Company in 1956 and served in numerous leadership roles, including Vice President of Marketing and Vice President of Sales. His hard work and dedication earned him a return in retirement as a mentor/consultant, where he earned the nickname “The Deuce” from colleagues. He proudly dedicated his entire career, 40 years, to the Winegard Company until 1995.

His love for Burlington extended far beyond his job. Bob was very dedicated to his community serving two terms as a member of the Burlington City Council. Bob spearheaded the form of government from council-mayor to council-city manager.&nbsp; He contributed his time and talents to numerous boards including BADCO, Burlington Bank &amp; Trust, Notre Dame School Board, Winegard Company, and the Burlington Golf Club. His 43 years on the Great River Health System Board of Directors-several of those as Chairman-left such an impression that the boardroom was dedicated to his service and now bears his name. His many accomplishments and awards he received include the Emmy Award (Citizen of the Year), Boy Scouts Distinguished Citizen Award, and most recently, the Eight Over 80 Award from the University of Iowa in 2024. In retirement, Bob didn’t slow down; he just changed gears. He became a substitute teacher at Notre Dame Schools, where students and staff quickly learned that his sense of humor and no-nonsense approach were as sharp as his business acumen. He treasured his role at Notre Dame where the students loved and respected him greatly.&nbsp;

He is survived by his wife, Anita, one sister, Sheila Fleming of Evanston, IL; five children, Kevin (Cindy) of Plano, Texas; Kathy (Craig) Perkins of Parker, Colo.; Sheila Fleming of Pittsboro, N.C.; Brian Fleming (his favorite) and K.C. (Beth) Fleming of Burlington; four stepsons, Jeff (Margo) Jochims, Chris Jochims, Greg (Shelley) Jochims, and Mike Jochims; 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Patricia (Trautner) on Dec. 30, 1999; his parents and three brothers John (Tampa, Fla.), Terry (Denver, Colo.) and Joseph (Burlington).

The Rosary Service is scheduled for 4 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2024 at Divine Mercy Parish-St. Paul's Catholic Church. Following the rosary, the family will receive friends until 7 p.m..

The Memorial Mass of the Resurrection for Mr. Fleming will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2024, at Divine Mercy Parish-St. Paul's Catholic Church with Rev. Father Jake Greiner as the Celebrant.&nbsp; A gathering of fellowship and luncheon will follow at the Burlington Golf Club, 2124 Sunnyside Avenue. A private family inurnment will take place at a later date in Sacred Heart Cemetery.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Lorie Lynn VanAmerongen, 61, of Winfield, died Saturday, Nov. 23, 2024 at her home surrounded by family.&nbsp; She was born July 11, 1963, in Charleston, Illinois to Robert Ray and Patsy Joan Cutright Blunk.&nbsp; She was a 1981 graduate of New London High School and earned a degree in horticulture at Southeastern Community College.&nbsp; She was of the Methodist faith.

On April 15, 1983, she married Bill VanAmerongen Jr, in New London.&nbsp; She worked at Metromail, Motorola/Celestica, and as a SMT operator at Winegard.&nbsp;

Lorie enjoyed working with her plants and gardening; antiquing and going to flea markets; motorcycle riding; camping with her husband; anything to do with the outdoors; and all animals, especially her cats. She loved being with her family and everyone else was always her first priority.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Survivors include her husband; her children Robert “Beau” of Winfield, Wilson “Wil” of New London, and Lillian “Lilly” of Winfield; three grandchildren, Hadley, Carson and Stella; sister Tena (Roy) Dixon of Burlington; brother Mike Blunk of Milton, Iowa; nieces and nephews.&nbsp; She was preceded in death by her parents Robert Blunk and Patsy Isle; her brother Tony, and sister Anna.

Gary A. Blint, 78, of rural West Point, Iowa, passed away at 9:00 p.m. Monday, Nov. 25, 2024, at his home in West Point.

He was born on Dec. 27, 1945, the son of Glenn and Dorothy Pickle Blint. He was the fourth of thirteen children in the family, the first of them to be born in a hospital at Sacred Heart in Fort Madison. On August 22, 1970, he married Victoria J. “Vicki” Menke at St. James the Less Catholic Church in St. Paul.

Survivors include his wife of fifty-four years: Vicki; daughter: Tammi Blint of West Point; two sons: Dustin (Terra) Blint of Bettendorf, Roland (Tisha) Blint of West Point; grandson: Tyler Brown; six granddaughters: Emmersyn, Zoey and Peyton Blint, Elliott, Hailey and Harper Blint; step-grandson: Ryan Brown; three brothers: Roger Blint, Sam (Barb) Blint, Ike (Peggy) Blint; three sisters: Jennie Morris, Jane Blint, Janette (Todd) Wolfe; sisters-in-law: Janet Blint, Joyce Blint, Kathy Jay. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by son-in-law: Harold Brown; five brothers: Harvey, Richard, Denny, Greg and Steven Blint; sister: Judy Chapman; two brothers-in-law: Cliff Chapman, Richard Menke; three sisters-in-law: Glenda Blint, Rena Blint, Judy Menke; nephew: Eric Blint and niece Cindy Shelnutt.

Gary attended Denmark Academy and graduated from Fort Madison High School. Following high school, he served in the United States Army from 1965 to 1967, in Germany, attaining the rank of Sergeant. He retired after forty-two and a half years of working as a mechanic at E.I DuPont. He also farmed all of his life and had much satisfaction driving and tinkering on his tractors. Gary was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in West Point. He loved the outdoors, gardening, playing cards (favorites: Euchre and Rook) and being a carpenter. He was a jack of all trades. Most of all, Gary enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

His body has been entrusted to the crematory of Schmitz Funeral Home for cremation.

A visitation will be held from 12 noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 1, 2024, at Schmitz Funeral Home in West Point, where the family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 2, 2024, at Schmitz Funeral Home in West Point, with Father Dan Dorau officiating.

Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in West Point with military rites by the West Point American Legion.

Shirley A. Blunt, 89, of Fort Myers, Fla. died Nov. 16 at the age of 89.&nbsp;

Shirley was born Aug. 7, 1935 to Alvin and Mabel Meyer in Burlington, Iowa. She attended schools there through high school. She was a good student and particularly enjoyed her participation in music classes. She started piano lessons at age 7 and organ lessons at age 15. From that time on she served as church organist for many of the churches she attended. In junior high and high school she accompanied groups on the piano. She also taught seven piano students during her high school years.

After high school graduation in 1953, she married Kenneth L. Blunt. She held positions in insurance offices during the time he was studying at the seminary in Chicago. He was the pastor of Sunnyside Avenue Baptist Church, Burlington, Iowa, and following that, he became an Army Chaplain, being assigned to various posts in Viet Nam, Germany and the US. Shirley and their children, Joel and Shawn, accompanied him whenever possible. She earned her AA degree from Drury College in Springfield, MO in 1979. At two of the Army posts she served as President of the Officers’ Wives’ Club, utilizing her love of organization and bringing people together. She served as Music Contractor at Chanute Air Force Base from 1982-1987, lining up musicians for all the church services.

Upon his Army retirement, they settled in Urbana, Ill., later moving to Fort Myers, FL. She thrived in her involvement in churches - at First Baptist Church, Burlington; Sunnyside Avenue Baptist Church, Burlington; University Baptist Church, Champaign, Ill.; Fort Myers Congregational United Church of Christ, Fort Myers, Fla., serving there as secretary, then office manager, as well as co-organist for 27 years. She was a member of the handbell and chancel choirs there for many of those years.

Among her other talents, Shirley composed six songs: Committed To Care, 1977; Make Today Count, 1978; Words of Faith, 1991; and Come to the Table of the Lord, 1992; Living Water, 1993; A Woman of Wisdom, 1994.

Survivors include &nbsp;her children, Joel (Debra) Blunt of Conroe, Texas and Shawn Parr of Licking, Mo.; two grandchildren, Elizabeth Parr of Urbana, Ill. and Erin (Andrew) Blunt Styron of Nashville, Tenn.; four great-grandchildren: Alexis Parr, Aalyvia and Myles Wilson, all of Urbana, Ill. and Callie Styron of Nashville, Tenn.; one great-great-grandson, Damari Brown of Urbana, Ill.; one sister, Joyce Alexander of Fort Myers, Fla.; and one former daughter-in-law, Susan Blunt of Franklin, Ten.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by parents and one grandson, Michael Parr.

A memorial service for Shirley will be held at Fort Myers United Church of Christ in Fort Myers at 2 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 16, 2024. Her ashes will be taken to Burlington, in the spring, where they will be buried next to her husband.

Emily Renae Landrum, 40, of Danville, gained her angels wings and preformed her “best jump ever” on Thursday, Nov. 21, 2024.

Born July 10, 1984, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Jerry and Jeannine Landrum.

Emily worked as a CNA for several years and traveled with her work all over the United States. She was honored to extend her talents during the COVID-19 pandemic and effortlessly worked to care for her patients, even when she was dealing with her own health issues.

Emily LOVED to skydive. She took many “dives” and even mastered the “halo dive”. She was even certified to go on her own, without an instructor, and did so in may states. She enjoyed photography and making jewelry. She was a very caring, compassionate and dedicated person and was dedicated to her patients and their care.

She will be greatly missed by her parents, Jerry and Jeannine Landrum; brother Eric (Nicole) Landrum; niece and nephew Garrett Landrum and Aislinn Landrum; paternal grandmother Dortha Landrum; aunts, Mary (Ron) Lair and Lynn Kartel and cousins.

She was preceded in death by a son in infancy, maternal grandparents Glen and Ramona Ramsdell, paternal grandfather Virgil Landrum and uncles Ron Ramsdell and Larry Landrum.

The memorial funeral service for Emily will be held at 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6 at Lunning Chapel. Pastor Monte Knudsen will officiate.

A memorial has been established for the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in memory of Emily.

According to her wishes, cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.

Edward Wesley Huss Jr., age 95, died peacefully at his home per his wishes, on Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2024. Born Nov. 22, 1928, he was the son of Edward Wesley and Helen Verne Hunter Huss.&nbsp;

Edward was a very independent man.&nbsp; He took great pride in being self sufficient and doing things his own way.&nbsp; He enjoyed working and worked a variety of jobs; working on the railroad, repairing televisions and even growing and selling produce from the roadside.&nbsp; He also enjoyed gambling in his free time.&nbsp;&nbsp;

His family include his children, Wesley Huss, Barbara Jean Peck, Cathy (Michael) Stogdill, and Rose Marie Garner; eighteen grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.

Sadly, he was preceded in death by his parents and six brothers, Glen Gorshe, James Huss, Lyle Huss Sr. Gerald Huss, Nathan Huss and Clayton Huss, and four sisters, Gail Fernald, Gladys Huss, Geneva Stewart and Georgia Kenney.

Genevieve Aileen Simmens,&nbsp;99, of Nauvoo, Ill., died at 9:23 p.m., Monday, Nov.19, 2024, at Birkwood Village in Fort Madison.

She was born on July 31, 1925, in Nauvoo, Ill., the daughter of Mark and Rose Mary (Moffitt) Bollin. On June 13, 1949, she married Howard Simmens at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Nauvoo. He preceded her in death on March 25, 1998.

Survivors include her children: Pamela (Roger) Fogle of Belle Isle, Florida, Frederic (Lori) Simmens of Jamestown, Missouri, Jennifer (David) Roberts of Fort Payne, Alabama, David Simmens of Flemington, Victoria, AU, Theresa (Kerry) Furlong of Albany, New York; fourteen grandchildren: Stephanie, Lori, Jeffrey, Matthew, Mallory, Sean, Sara, Jameson, Aimee, Mark, James, Erin, Stephen, Jessica; twenty-six great grandchildren; four great - great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Howard; son: Stephen Lane; brothers: Maximillian and David; brother in infancy: Richard.

Genevieve was a one room schoolhouse teacher and, for many years, owned and operated The Ancient Pines Bed and Breakfast where her homemade breads were legendary.&nbsp; She was a lifelong member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. She belonged to the Catholic Women’s Club and had a particular devotion to laundering and pressing the altar linens. In addition she was a Benedictine Oblate.&nbsp; Genevieve devoted years of service to the Nauvoo Historical Society, achieving honors at the local and state level. She was an avid organic gardener, took joy in her far-reaching family and particularly cherished visits from her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A visitation with family receiving friends will be held from 12 to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2024, at Schmitz - Banks and Beals Funeral Home in Nauvoo, where a parish rosary will be recited at 1:00 p.m.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2024, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church with Father Tony Trosley as celebrant.&nbsp;

Burial will be at Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Nauvoo.

She was born February 28, 1928, in the Donnellson vicinity. She was the daughter of Lester and Iola Bonn Lang. On April 11, 1948, she married Forrest Schau at the Zion United Church of Christ in Primrose. He preceded her in death on June 3, 2012.

Survivors include her daughter: Nancy (Bob) McCleary of New London; son: Leon (Barb) Schau of Primrose Iowa, and daughter: Rebecca (Stephen) Hassman of Primrose Iowa; six grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren: Julie (Josh) Shimken-Hassman and great-grandson: Luca; Christa (Jeff) Pietrzyk and great-grandsons: Tate, Rhet and Chase; Ben (April) Hassman and great-grandchildren: Payton, Bryer and Madison; Brian McCleary and great-grandchildren: Brice and Chloe; Hannah (Jared) Lupkes and great-grandchildren: Nora and Beau; Emma (Josh) Wade and great-grandchildren: Ben, Eleanor, and Wren.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her husband and parents. &nbsp;

Wilma was a member of the Sharon Presbyterian Church and the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 474 of Donnellson. Wilma enjoyed playing bridge, sewing, taking care of her family, and traveling. She most recently enjoyed spending time with her great-grandchildren. &nbsp;

As per her wishes her body has been entrusted to the crematory of Schmitz Funeral Home.

A family grave side service will be held at a later date at the Primrose Cemetery.&nbsp;

Dixie Gillis , 78, of West Burlington, died Nov. 19, 2024 at her home, surrounded by family.

Born Nov. 24, 1945, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Milford Dowell and Helen Bernice Likely Dowell. On May 12, 1962, she married Robert Earl Gillis in Kahoka, Mo.

She was a childcare provider for many friends and family prior to attending college. &nbsp;She graduated in 1976 from Southeastern Community College with her associates degree as a registered nurse and became certified as a Psychiatric and Mental Health Nurse in 1991.

Her hobbies include gardening, garage sales, and cross stitching. &nbsp;She was a den mother and president of the Burlington YMCA Swim Team. &nbsp;She was a member of West Hill United Methodist Church.

Dixie and her husband enjoyed traveling abroad to Germany, down the Rhine and Danube Rivers, and several Mediterranean and Caribbean cruises.

John Robert McBride,&nbsp;70, of Nauvoo, Ill., died Monday, Nov. 18, 2024.&nbsp; He was born on Feb. 8, 1954, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Fort Madison, the son of John Stephen and Gloria Jeanne McLain McBride.

A Nauvoo-Colusa graduate, he went on to become a horticulturist. He was a fun-loving man who loved to fish and he always supported his beloved Chicago Bears, Cubbies, and Iowa Hawkeyes. John was also a phenomenal pool and card player. He will be remembered by all as the “life of the party” and he had a true good heart.

John is survived by his daughter Amy (Chris) Lewis; grandchildren: Kevin Aiello and Victoria Aiello; sisters: Rosemary (Harry) Ossont, Anita Anderson, Genny (Craig) Huls, Gerry (Steve) Weaver; brothers: Chris (Laura) McBride, David (Royal) McBride; uncle: Richard Ketcham; numerous cousins. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews, plus all the many friends he has made throughout the years. Special mention to his friend Susie.

Celebration of Life for Marilyn Saturday, Dec. 7, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Eagles Club, Burlington Marilyn Paige, 78, of Burlington, died Sunday, Aug. 25, 2024, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington. Born April 2, 1946, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Arthur G and Thelma Anderson Swanson. On June 21, 1969, she married Robert Paige in Monmouth, IL. He died on June 9, 1983.&nbsp; She started dating Jerry Downer in January of 1985 and that turned into a 7 year loving relationship until his death on August 25, 1992. She attended and graduated from Burlington High School in 1964. Marylin worked in the offices of different truck lines for 44 years and at Doran for 20 years. She played golf when she was able to and liked playing cards. She loved the river and the 35 years she lived at Lake Stevenson. She was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ but did also attend other churches through the years. Survivors include her brother Robert "Bob" (Linda) Swanson; Bob's only son, Kirk's wife Susan Swanson; 14 of the Paige and Massner nieces and nephews; brother-in-law Ron (Diane) Paige; sister-in-law Retha; and many great wonderful friends especially Sue Webb and Nancy Simms. She was preceded in death by her husband, her partner, Jerry Downer, her parents and her nephew Kirk Swanson. Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory. Survivors include her brother Robert "Bob" (Linda) Swanson; Bob's only son, Kirk's wife Susan Swanson; 14 of the Paige and Massner nieces and nephews; brother-in-law Ron (Diane) Paige; sister-in-law Retha; and many great wonderful friends especially Sue Webb and Nancy Simms. She was preceded in death by her husband, her partner, Jerry Downer, her parents and her nephew Kirk Swanson. Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory. There will be no visitation or services. If you wish to make a donation to something in her memory she asked that you make a donation to your favorite charity and/or vote against Trump in November. Gladys Lucille Eppley, 103, of LaHarpe, Ill. passed away at 4:43 a.m. Monday, Nov. 18, 2024 at the Oak Lane Nursing &amp; Rehab in Stronghurst, Ill.&nbsp; Gladys was born July 2, 1921 in Durham, Ill., the daughter of Arthur Leslie and Mary Ann Reed Shinn. She was raised by her stepmother, Bertha Shinn, after losing her parents early in life. On March 2, 1941, she married George L. Eppley at the Paul Blender home near Durham. He preceded her in death on Jan. 7, 2006.

Survivors include two daughters: Suzanne Miller of Rushville, Ill. and Dianne (Greg) Blythe of LaHarpe, one daughter-in-law: Sylvia Eppley of Rushville; grandchildren, Kim (Jon) Barr of Carthage, Melissa (Tyler) Rhode of Carlock, Lance (Amanda) Blythe of LaHarpe, Chris Eppley of St. Louis, and Erin (Ryan) VanHorn of Chattanooga, Tenn.; step-grandchildren, Eric (Krisa) Miller of Burlington, Kevin (Tamara) Miller of Dallas City and Jarrod (Jenny) Miller of Cedar Rapids; great-grandchildren, Kaila (Jacob) Rowland, Hailey and Trenton Blythe, Garrett, Preston and Travis Rhode and Seth, Isaac and Abby VanHorn; step-great-grandchildren: David Miller, Ashlyn Miller and Alexis (Trevor) Meierotto and great–great-grandchildren: Aria and Briella Rowland.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by one son: Dennis Eppley; infant sister: Vivian Violet Shinn; one son-in-law: David Miller and many other extended family members.&nbsp;

Gladys attended Bross Grade School and graduated from Colusa High School in 1939. While attending school, Gladys enjoyed making many friends and cheerleading. She met her husband, George, while attending church at the Durham United Methodist Church. She was a lifelong member of the church, holding many offices within the church and participating in the church choir. She enjoyed being an active mother, playing games with her kids, cooking meals, gardening, canning food, sewing and making homecoming dresses. Later, she enjoyed keeping her grandchildren and even kept kids that weren’t hers, and loved doing it.&nbsp;

One can only imagine what all she experienced in her 103 years on this earth - what a journey! Everyone at Oak Lane loved her and she them. Gladys is a hard one to pass off to God, but you can bet she will have a great time there also. To have known her was to love her.&nbsp;

Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2024 at Banks &amp; Beals Funeral Home in LaHarpe. The family will not be present Tuesday.&nbsp;

The family will receive friends from 9:30 until 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 27 at Banks &amp; Beals. The funeral service will follow at 11 with Ryan VanHorn officiating.&nbsp;

A private family burial will be held at Durham Cemetery.&nbsp;

A memorial fund has been established for the Durham United Methodist Church, Oak Lane Nursing &amp; Rehab and Hospice Compassus.&nbsp;

Tami Gay Mace, 65 of Burlington, died on Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2024, at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born of Nov. 25, 1958, in Chico, Calif., she was the daughter of Charles and Nora Galbreth Paxton. On April 25, 1982, in Las Vegas, Nev., she married Carl Mace.

She is survived by her husband Carl; daughter Nicole Mace; granddaughter Peyton Mace; mother Nora; sisters Candy Gerling and Kim. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father Chuck.

Per her wishes cremation has been entrusted and accorded to the care of Lunning Chapel. No services will be held at this time.

Konrad Stefan Montsko, 75, died peacefully on Thursday, Oct. 3, 2024, at Great River Klein Center in West Burlington.&nbsp; He was born on March 21, 1949, to Stefan and Maria Gurka Montsko, in Hohen Schönberg, Mecklenburg, near the Baltic Sea in East Germany.&nbsp; His family was resettled after WW2 from Czechoslovakia to East Germany, fled to West Germany in 1952, and immigrated to the United States in 1956.&nbsp; He graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1965.&nbsp; He belonged to Divine Mercy Parish / SS Mary and Patrick Church in West Burlington.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Konrad worked in a variety of industries, including manufacturing of agricultural equipment, military ammunition, commercial building systems, and food products.&nbsp; He worked in construction and sold life insurance.&nbsp; He was very sociable and especially enjoyed jobs as a bartender and a casino poker dealer.&nbsp; Once he retired, he offered rides to many folks who happened to need transportation for errands or appointments, and he helped homebound friends.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Konrad loved taking photos at social gatherings, and especially of nature all around him in every season and in every kind of light.&nbsp; He enjoyed card and board games.&nbsp; He joined a bowling league and liked to play pool.&nbsp; His great adventure was skydiving.&nbsp;&nbsp;He hated shopping and did not care about accumulating or managing stuff; even as a child, he gave any unused items away.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Konrad had a kind and generous nature and deep faith, with an impulsive mischievous fun side.&nbsp; He was grateful for whatever blessings came his way and for all the friends and acquaintances who shared or touched his life, including all the interesting residents at the Friedenheim community where he lived for several years.&nbsp; He was moved by all the thoughtful folks who visited him at Klein Center.&nbsp; And he was thankful for the excellent care provided by the dedicated Klein Center staff. &nbsp;

Konrad was preceded in death by his parents.&nbsp; He is survived by his sister Anna of Park Ridge IL and a few remaining scattered cousins.&nbsp; Memorial contributions may be made to Divine Mercy Parish,&nbsp;502 West Mt. Pleasant Street, West Burlington IA 52655.&nbsp;&nbsp;
