Teresa Sue Kelly, 70, of Burlington, died Thursday, May 23, 2024, at her home.

Born December 11, 1953, in Fort Madison, she was the daughter of Robert James Hamilton Jr. and Joyce Ann Fry. She was a 1972 graduate of Burlington High School.

She married Ivan Kenneth Kelly Jr. on July 5, 1997. He preceded her in death on April 7, 2023.

Teresa worked as a phlebotomist for 34 years. She worked with MHI in Mt. Pleasant and for 27 years at Great River Medical Center. She retired in 2017.

She loved irises and had them planted all throughout her yard. She enjoyed riding with her husband on their Harley, crafting, puzzles, attending plant and tag sales and antiquing. Her kids and grandkids were truly her life and she cherished time spent with them. She was known to complain about family holidays, but deep down they knew she truly loved it.

Survivors include her two sons: Michael J. (Mindy) Shelledy and Jeff (Tina) Shelledy; six grandchildren, Taylor (Christopher) Stone, Asia Shelledy, Zachary Shelledy, Zander Shelledy, Bailey Shelledy and Mason Shelledy; great grandson Camdyn Stone; three sisters, Jennifer (Matt) Morrison, Mary (Doug) Means, and Lori (Joe) Canterbury; brother Dean (Barb) Hamilton; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews and most importantly her fourth child, her fur baby Angelica.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, granddaughter Peyton, sister Anna Lopez and her aunt and uncle who helped raise her, Kenneth and Lola Juhl.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 30 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends.

Burial will be held in Montrose Cemetery, Montrose, at a later date.

According to her wishes, cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.

Richard Wayne Oldham II, 70, of Sioux Falls, S.D., formerly of Burlington died Monday, May 20, 2024, at his home in Yuma, Ariz.

Born Dec. 31, 1953, in Burlington, he was the son of Earl Oldham Sr. and Elizabeth Mae Stephens Oldham. On Jan.30, 1998, he married Denise Foutch in Burlington. They celebrated 43 years together before her passing on Oct. 24, 2020.

Richard was a sheet metal worker for Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway for 42 years.

He enjoyed traveling with his wife in their R.V. all over the United States. Richard always looked forward to happy hour and Washoes with his friends in the RV Park and always enjoyed the margaritas in Algonones, Mexico. He loved watching sports, biking, golfing and spending time with his grandchildren and family.&nbsp;

Survivors include two sons, Curtis Oldham of Kennesaw, Ga., and Sean (Michele) Oldham of Foley, Ala.; two daughters, Kelly (Andrew) Lawler of Burlington, and Kari (Aaron) Foutch of St. Peters, Mo.; 10 grandchildren: Allie Aman-Buechler, Karlie Lawler, Kassidy Lawler, Kaely Lawler, Dayton Elliot, Keeshon Oldham, Autum Wolski, Cameron Oldham, Carter Newcomb, and Gavin Briegleb; two great-grandchildren: Chloe and Kenadie Worthy; brother, Delbert Stephens of Burlington; and sister, Sharon (Jimmy) Flowers of Burlington.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Earl Oldham, one sister, Teri Oldham, and one grandson, C.J. Oldham.

The memorial service is pending arrangements and will be announced.

Duane H. Moore, 79, of Burlington, died Friday, May 24, 2024 at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born Aug. 20, 1944 in Burlington, he was the son of William and Hazel Callaway Moore. Duane grew up on the family farm south of Danville. He graduated from Danville High School in 1962. And was in the Army National Guard from 1965 to 1971. On Nov. 18, 1967, he married Mary S Brown in Burlington. He was a member of Long Creek United Methodist Church.

Duane was a heavy equipment operator and worked for M.Z. Davis, Broeker Construction and retired from J &amp; J Steel. He was a lifetime member of Union Local 150 I.O.U.E. He enjoyed watching the Iowa Hawkeyes and the western channel. Years ago he enjoyed bowling on a league in Burlington. Duane loved spending time with his family and attending his grandkids’ sporting events. He had a good sense of humor.

Survivors include his wife Mary of Burlington; one daughter Michele (Jamie) Lohmann of Burlington; one son Chad (Betty) Moore of Mount&nbsp; Pleasant; two grandchildren Zachary (Lindsey Reeves) Lohmann of Urbandale; Kylee (Trenton Gebhardt) Lohmann of Burlington; one brother Dick (Joyce) Moore and one sister Beverly Shepard both of Danville; several nieces and nephews and his beloved cat, Cody.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law James Shepard.

There will be a private family graveside service at Long Creek Cemetery on Wednesday, May 29 with Reverend David Mixon officiating.

A memorial has been established for Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House.

Duane H. Moore

Duane Arthur Sourwine, 78, of Burlington, died Thursday, May 23, 2024 in Burlington.

Born Oct. 12, 1945, in Burlington, he was the son of Melvin Lee and Dorothy Mary Wolf Sourwine. On April 1, 1967, he married Teresa Trautner at St. Paul's Catholic Church and together they had two daughters, Sandra Anne and Tamara Mary.

On May 6, 1984, he married Janice Louise Humphries in Lomax, Ill., at the Lomax Christian Church. She preceded him in death on June 15, 2019.

He proudly served his country in the National Guard. Duane was the co-owner of Leyda, Burrus and Metz Monuments from 1976 to 2014 alongside his brother Ron.

He was a member of Divine Mercy Parish-St. Paul's Catholic Church. Duane was always an incredibly hard worker but when he wasn't working he enjoyed his cats, boating, snowmobiles, working on cars and attending car shows and thoroughly enjoyed traveling.

Survivors include two daughters, Sandra Shipley of Burlington, Tamara (Brent) Levinson of Burlington; step-daughter, Heidi Brown of Fort Madison; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother, Ronald (Reta) Sourwine of Florida; sister, Victoria (Ron) Sourwine of Burlington; several nieces and nephews and his beloved cat, Baxter.

Besides his wife of 34 years, he was preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Nathan Michael Lerud.

Visitation will be from 12 to 6 p.m. with the family to receive friends following a 4 p.m. Rosary Service until 6 p.m. Thursday, May 30, 2024, at&nbsp; Prugh's Chapel downtown, 317 N. 4th St. Burlington.

The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection for Mr. Sourwine will be 10 a.m. Friday, May 31, 2024, at Divine Mercy Parish-St. Paul's Catholic Church with Fr. Dominic Nguyen as the Celebrant. Full military honors will be rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard.&nbsp; Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.&nbsp;

Susan Ronanne Diamond, 70, of Burlington, Iowa, died Monday, May 20, 2024, at her home.

Born on May 22, 1953, in Cheyenne, Wyo., she was the daughter of Mason R. and Edith J. Krusee Diamond.

Susan was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church and directed choir there for many years. She attended the University of Hawaii and later received her bachelor’s degree from Iowa Wesleyan College in Music Education. For many years she was an elementary music teacher for Burlington Public School District. In her free time, she loved to play the piano and various instruments, loved singing, watching movies, traveling and attending concerts in the park. Susan grew up traveling the world with her mother and father while he served in the United States Air Force. While her father was on assignment in Hawaii she met her husband Rick Mehaffy, they later divorced.

She is survived by her three loving daughters and ten loving grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Per her wishes, cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel. No services will be held.

Burial will be held in Wheatland Cemetery, in Wheatland, Wyo.

David Walsh, 76, of Burlington, died Sunday, March 10, 2024, at his home, surrounded by family.

Born June 21, 1947, in Burlington, he was the son of Robert Edward and Alice Bethel Mehaffy Walsh. On Aug. 19, 1968, he married Jean Marie Geren in St. Pat's Church in Burlington.&nbsp;

He graduated from Burlington High School. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving with the infantry in the Vietnam War.

David worked as a firefighter for Burlington for 29 years.

In the 80's he enjoyed working out and competing in bodybuilding competitions. David was a very talented artist and enjoyed drawing and painting. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife in their motor home and loved spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Jean Marie Walsh; two daughters, Trina Renee (Chad) Woods of Burlington and Heather Nicole (Mike) Bush of Chapin, SC; five grandchildren, Anna Marie Walsh (George) Coursey, Tia Nicole Walsh (Shane) Cavanaugh, Michael David Bush, Alexander Adam Bush and Logan Bruce Woods; two great-grandchildren, Emilia Grace Coursey and Kylan John Cavanaugh; and brother, Robert Edward (Elizabeth) Walsh Jr. of St. George, Utah.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Joseph Walsh, and two sisters, Mary Hopewell and Joann Beine.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

Delores was a school teacher and she was the office manager of Flint Hills Golf Course for over 20 years. She enjoyed gardening.

Survivors include her husband Brent Porter of Iowa City, one niece and one nephew.

She is preceded in death by her parents, one sister and two brothers.

Dustin was a mechanical genius, always building, rebuilding and tinkering with everything.&nbsp; He loved working on cars and trucks and enjoyed attending Old Threshers and time with his family.

He is survived by his daughter Teagan Cropp; father, Robert (Jennifer) Jern Jr.; mother, Traci Morris; step-mother, Kelley Jern; step-father, Scott Morris; maternal grandmother Dianne (Tom) Bonar; siblings; Devin (Amanda) Jern, Joseph Morris, Dylan Jern, Alli Jern, Abbi Jern, Alyssa Sly, Lyndzey (Cody) Schlueter, Jordan Sly, Ethan Sly, Owen Sly and Casady Sly; aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews and special Aunt Lisa Reid and “Nana” Cheryl Stewart.

Born April 20, 1961, in Grundy Center, Iowa, he was the son of Cecil Wrage and JoAnn Wrage. &nbsp;

He married Rebecca Heiniger on Feb. 22, 1989, in Grundy Center.&nbsp; She preceded him in death April 1, 2013.

Jeff worked for Lowe’s and Walmart, in addition to farming and construction.&nbsp; Jeff loved to connect with people on Facebook.&nbsp; He enjoyed tinkering on lawn mowers and fixing things.&nbsp; He was always willing to offer a helping hand to anyone that needed it.

He is survived by his father, Cecil Wrage; his mother JoAnn Wrage; step-daughter Aimee (Matt) Wagenbach, whom he thought of as his own; grandchildren, Lydia, Elise, Lucas, Hanna and Ellah; two brothers, Nathan (Jennifer) Wrage and Randy (Amy) Wrage and his very loved nieces and nephews, Tyler, Angela, Jake and Luke.

He was preceded in death by his wife Rebecca.

Per his wishes, cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel. A private graveside service will be held at a later date.

Robert Kenneth Lyons, age 87, died May 19, 2024, in New London.

Robert was born Nov. 7, 1936 in Burlington, the son of Kenneth and Rose Steiniger Lyons. &nbsp;Robert went on to serve his country through the United States Air Force. &nbsp;After which he worked as a maintenance manager within the Burlington Medical Center and Great River Medical Center for 27 years. &nbsp;Robert was an avid Chicago Bears and Cubs fan. &nbsp;In his younger years he loved playing drums and enjoyed the solitude of fishing.

He married Betty Jean Calhoun and later divorced.

Robert’s family include his son, Kenneth A. Lyons (Rhonda); four grandchildren, six great grandchildren; and his sister Wanda Phillips. Robert was preceded in death by his parents.

A simple cremation has been arranged in accordance with Robert’s wishes. &nbsp;No services are scheduled. &nbsp;He will be laid to rest at Aspen Grove Cemetery.

Lori Mae Ruby Steffensmeier,&nbsp;37, of rural Fort Madison, died at 8:33 a.m. Saturday, May 18, 2024.&nbsp;

She was born on Sept. 18, 1986, in Oskaloosa, the daughter of Randy and Merilee Peterson Ruby. On June 13, 2009, she married Dan Steffensmeier at the First Christian Reformed Church in Oskaloosa.&nbsp;

She is survived by her husband: Dan; three daughters: Ruby, Kathleen and Carlee Steffensmeier; parents: Randy and Merilee; brother: John Ruby and sister: Lacey Ruby; father and mother-in-law: Tom and Carla Steffensmeier; grandmother: Sandra Petersen. Also surviving are several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents and maternal grandfather.

Lori graduated from Central College with a Bachelors Degree in Biology and Secondary Education. She worked as a quality systems manager at Roquette. She was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in West Point. She served on St. Mary’s Parish Council and the Altar and Rosary Committee. Lori enjoyed gardening, golfing, reading, spending time with family and friends and most of all, she loved her children.

A visitation will be held from 12 noon to 6 p.m. Thursday, May 23, 2024, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in West Point, where the family will receive friends from 3 to 6 p.m. A Christian wake service will be held at 6 p.m. at the church.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 24, 2024, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in West Point, with Father Dan Dorau as celebrant. 

Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in West Point.

Bonnie Rae Darrah, 96, of Burlington, died Monday, May 20, 2024, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born May 20, 1928, in Keithsburg, Ill., she was the daughter of Fredrick C. and Jessie M. Beckman Breuer. On May 2, 1948, she married Harry Eugene Darrah in Burlington. He passed on March 2, 1996.

She attended Burlington Schools and graduated from Burlington High School in 1946.&nbsp;

Mrs. Darrah worked for Burlington Instrument Company, Sears, Spurgeons, and Sylvania. She also owned and operated Darrah's Confectionary along side her husband from 1953 through 1958. Bonnie was a matron at the Des Moines County Jail where she and her husband resided for four years when he was a deputy sheriff. She also worked for the City of Burlington for 26 years for the Parking Enforcement Department and the Finance Department until her retirement in 1992.

She volunteered for Great River Medical Center for 9 years. Bonnie enjoyed traveling, reading, attending craft shows, boating, camping and spending time with her family. She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church. She was known for her cooking, especially her pasta salad, apple bread, pumpkin bread and homemade noodles. &nbsp;

Survivors include two daughters, Nancy (Ron) Mower of Burlington and Sally (Allan) Bailey of Danville; three grandchildren, Tyler Mower of Fairfax, Amy (Grant) Shriver of Mooresville, NC, and Brogan Bailey of Coralville; two great-grandchildren, Kylan Mower and Avery Shriver; and several nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one brothers, Glen Breuer, three sisters, Velma Meyer, Verna Hollinrake, and Leona Weaver and two infant sisters.

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. with the family to receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 23, 2024, at Prugh's Chapel, 317 North 4th.

Janice E. Kilbride, 85, of Omaha, Neb., died April 14, 2024, at Village Crossing Retirement Center in Louisville, Ky.

Jan was born Aug. 29, 1938, in Sioux City, the daughter of Alfred and Johanna Schaefer. She was raised in Burlington and was homecoming queen and graduate of Burlington Catholic High School in 1956.

She is survived by her brother, John Schaefer; four children; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son: Patrick; her brother: Willard Jr.; and her sister: Evelyn Calvert.

Debra worked at Conagra Foods for thirty-three years. She was a member of UFCW Local 617. She enjoyed quilt shows, spending time with her family, being outdoors, reading, bowling, and traveling with her family.

Her body has been entrusted to the crematory of Schmitz Funeral Home for cremation.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 1, 2024, at the Church of New Beginnings in Keokuk, with Pastor Don Skinner officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.&nbsp;

Burial will be at a later date in the Montrose Cemetery.

Mary Elizabeth Johnson Saathoff, 92, of West Burlington, died Thursday, May 16, 2024, at the Klein Center in West Burlington.

Born Sept. 17, 1931, in Mount Pleasant, she was the daughter of Royal Frank and Chrystal Helen Gauss Bonar. On Nov. 25, 1948, she married Leroy L. Johnson. He preceded her in death on Feb. 25, 1967. On Aug. 3, 1975, she married Gilbert Allen Saathoff in Burlington. He also preceded her in death on April 6, 1991.

Mary worked in the drafting department of General Electric from 1967 until she retired in 1993.

Mary had a love for painting, especially painting with oils. When she was not busy with her paintings, she could be found watching television or spending time with her friends and family. Friends and family were a large part of Mary's life. Mary was very nurturing with her family, and this carried over into her role as a Sunday school teacher. It was not uncommon to witness Mary breaking out in song randomly in her retirement home. These are all qualities her family will dearly miss.

Survivors include daughter, Karen Jo (Larry) Johnson of Burlington, son, Kevin (Cathy) Johnson of Ankeny, grandchildren; Kevin Blake Johnson, Colin Keith Johnson, Paige Cathryn (Liv) Billings, great-grandchildren; Conner Johnson, Pyper Timmerman, Cora Johnson, Jaxon Billings, Lukas Billings, Ella Billings, step-daughter, Karen Walter, step-daughter, Gretchen Saathoff, step-daughter, Marilyn &nbsp;Saathoff, step-daughter, Marlene Saathoff, step-son, Dan Saathoff, and several nieces and nephews.

Dale Eugene Dobson, 72, of Burlington, died Thursday, May 9, 2024, at Genesis Select Specialty Hospital, Davenport.

Born Sept. 10, 1951, in Burlington, he was the son of Ivan Dale and Dottie Ilene Dobson. He was a 1970 graduate of Danville High School and served in the Navy.

Dale managed several restaurants and hotels and was a computer programmer. He loved just spending time at home and cherished his time with his family.

He is survived by his siblings; Leroy Dean (Becky) Dobson of Winfield and Denise Ann (Mike) Shaffer of Burlington, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a great nephew.

Visitation with family will be Thursday, May 23 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Lunning Chapel.

A memorial has been established for St. Jude’s Childrens Hospital.

Allen Eugene "Willie" Heisel, 90, of Burlington, died Friday, May 10, 2024, in Wever.

He was born on Dec. 5, 1933, in Glasgow, Iowa, the son of LeRoy Eugene and Mary Ethel Carter Heisel. He married Nancy Jean Workman, they later divorced. She precedes him in death.

He is survived by one son Kelly (Donna) Heisel of Cantril; three daughters: Susan (Jim) Hamburg of Cantril, Mary (Chuck) Huffman of Boone, and Cindy (Chad) LaRue of Ottumwa; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; three sisters: Bettye Davis of Wichita, Kan., Beverly Mason of Burlington, and Shirley Dorothy of Fairfield. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

Allen was in the graduating class of 1954 from Stockport High School. In high school he played basketball and baseball. He acquired the nickname “Willie” after a major league baseball player Willie Mays. That nickname has followed him into adulthood and everyone knew him as Willie. He was of Methodist faith. He loved watching the Iowa Hawkeyes, gardening, caring for his chickens, Little Debbie Cakes, and the most delicious pies made by his sister Bev (who was his best friend and rock). Allen worked for the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant for a short time. He was a farmer to the core raising cattle, chickens, peacocks, horses and farming crops. Often times you would find him bottle feeding the calves which he loved. Being an avid farmer came along with his favorite tractor company, John Deere. Come every fall Allen loved to invite friends, family and the neighbors over for hayrides. He always loved seeing the little kids have fun. Most of all Allen had a great sense of humor.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 24, 2024, at Lunning Chapel, with Pastor Dean Graber officiating. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service with family receiving friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. A private burial will be in Glasgow Cemetery in Glasgow, Iowa. The family would like for everyone to come in casual jeans or their favorite pair of bib overalls in honor of Allen.

Per his wishes, cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.

A memorial has been established in his memory for Glasgow Cemetery. Per the family’s request checks may be written payable to Glasgow Cemetery and can either be brought to the service or mailed to Kelly E. Heisel, 29766 Hickory Ave., Cantril, Iowa 52542.

Andrew Jay Coen, 61, of Burlington, died May 15, 2024, from complications of lung cancer.

Andy was born Feb. 26, 1963, in Mercy Hospital, Burlington,to Robert and Goldie Woodsmall Coen, the third of six children.&nbsp;

Growing up on a farm near Salem,&nbsp; Andy was often found immersed in nature. An avid outdoorsman, he routinely hunted, trapped, and fished. Many funny stories could be told about Andy’s farm life; swimming and/or skinny dipping in the pond and Skunk River, and often and easily finding mischief with his siblings and cousins. One such story included Andy choosing a billy goat, aptly named Billy, rather than taking the money after bailing hay for a neighboring farmer. Though a great nuisance to the family, Billy made Andy a happy boy who never regretted his decision.

Andy was a Salem Volunteer 4-H Club member and a Mount Pleasant High School graduate. As an adult, he declared himself a staunch Democrat who believed in the working class and equal rights for all. Andy spent his time writing poetry and short stories, listening to rock’n roll, and was a true jokester. Above all, Andy loved spending time with his family, especially sitting around the table eating while telling childhood stories. For several years before his dad’s passing, Bob and Andy regularly attended Saturday night mass at St. John’s Catholic Church together. Andy will be greatly missed by his family.

Andy is survived by his mother, Goldie Coen of Burlington, sister Jean Coen of Burlington, and brothers Joe (Linda) Coen of Newton, Patrick (Jennifer) Coen, of Burlington, and Stephen (Vionelkis) Coen of Holland, Mich., as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.&nbsp;

His father, sister Jewell Ashraf, and grandparents preceded him in death.

Andy’s body will be cremated, and his family will receive friends and family at 6 p.m. Friday, May 31, 2024, at his brother's residence, 408 Iowa Street Burlington, to celebrate his life.

Sandra Sue McLaughlin, 73, of Mediapolis, was welcomed into the arms of Jesus on Thursday, May 16, 2024, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Known as Sandy, Mom, or Nana to all who knew her, she was truly the brightest light.&nbsp;

Born April 1, 1951, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Ronald W. and Wanda E. Hillyard Campbell. She married the love of her life, Rick McLaughlin, on June 5, 1971. They made a wonderful life together in Mediapolis, where three children completed their family. Rarely apart, they loved one another unconditionally. The love they shared radiated in their eyes and was unmatched. They went on to build a successful business together, McLaughlin Oil Inc., which they proudly owned and operated together for 34 years. &nbsp;

During Sandy's life, her complete focus was her friends and family. There was seldom a time when she wasn't busy cooking, cleaning, giving freely to others or just enjoying those she loved so deeply. &nbsp;She never knew a stranger, nor could you find a better cheerleader. Her grandchildren were the light of her life. Spending time with them any chance she had was pure joy. In them, she leaves behind a true legacy of love. She was also a devoted member of St. Mary's Catholic Church with an unwavering faith in God.&nbsp;

She is survived by and will be dearly missed by her adoring husband of nearly 53 years, Rick McLaughlin, her loving children; Jeremy (Amy Jo) McLaughlin of Wayland, Kari (Brian) Wright of Osage, Amy (Heath) Timmerman of Sperry, as well as six proud and precious grandchildren; Madison, Molly, John, Kelsey, Mackenzie and Blake. She also leaves behind two sisters and one brother; Connie (Wayne) Beckman of Mediapolis, Rhonda Ferrill of Burlington and Tim Campbell of Burlington, many brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law, numerous nieces and nephews, as well as special granddaughters, Addison and Bailey Kidwell.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and nephew Danny Campbell.

Visitation with the family to receive friends will be from 4 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Dodgeville.

The Memorial Mass of the Resurrection for Sandy will be 10 a.m. Thursday, May 23, 2024, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Dodgeville. &nbsp;Inurnment will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery following the service. &nbsp;A time of food and fellowship will be held at St. Mary's Parish Center in Dodgeville following the burial.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice.

Martha Ann Piper, 90, passed away on Monday, May 13, 2024, at Heritage House in Atlantic, Iowa.&nbsp; She was born on February 25, 1934, in Santa Barbara, Calif., the daughter of Mads Sivert and Lucille Mildred (Champagne) Iversen.&nbsp; She attended school in Solvang, Calif. until 1945, when the family moved to Burlington.&nbsp; She graduated from Mediapolis High School in 1951. &nbsp;

Martha was united in marriage to Walter William Piper on July 23, 1955, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Dodgeville. They made their home in Mediapolis where they raised eight children. In later years the couple enjoyed traveling the United States on bus trips. Martha moved to Heritage House in Atlantic after Walter’s passing in 2019.

Following high school, she worked as an operator at the Mediapolis Telephone Company, but spent the majority of her life caring for children. In addition to raising her own large family, she ran a home daycare for many years.&nbsp; Martha enjoyed walking, putting together jigsaw puzzles, and displaying her collections of teddy bears, music boxes and snow globes, especially those with a Christmas theme.

Martha is survived by her children, Dennis Piper of Mediapolis, IA, David Piper of Burlington, IA, Renae Smothers of Atlantic, IA, Teresa (Jeff) Godwin of Cumberland, IA, Wayne Piper of El Cajon, CA, Sharon (Tom) Duffy of Des Plaines, IL, and Dan Piper of Winfield, IA; 17 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, a great-great-grandson; and siblings, Sivert Iversen and Dina Poole both of Burlington, IA, and Ray (Karen) Iversen of Macomb, Ill.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her son, Randy.

Per Martha’s wishes cremation has taken place and a graveside service for her and Walter will be held at a later date at the Kossuth Cemetery in Mediapolis, Iowa.

The family requests memorials be directed to the Heritage House Good Samaritan Fund at 1200 Brookridge Circle, Atlantic, IA 50022.&nbsp;The Good Samaritan Fund provides financial assistance to residents who have outlived their resources. This allows them to continue living in the familiar surroundings and with the caring staff they are accustomed to. Martha was a recipient of this program.

Jewell “Julie” Bartleson, 99, of Burlington, died Monday, May 13, 2024, at her home in Bickford Cottage.

Born February 9, 1925, in Missouri, she was the daughter of Samuel Luther and Ida Mae Buchanan. She married Wesley Cross, they later divorced. She then married Philip “Farfie” Bartleson on November 18, 1967, in Oquawka, Ill. He preceded her in death on June 30, 2019.

Known as Mammy, she was a devoted grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother and made a point to attend all the activities she could.She is survived by her loving family.The funeral service for Mrs. Bartleson will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 17 at Lunning Chapel. Pastor Peggy Stott will officiate. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
