Carol Jeanne Hippe, 90, died Saturday, Jan. 21, 2023. She was born in Richmond, Ind., on May 5, 1932, to Raymond Elbert and Lenora Ione Watkins Belcher.

Carol is survived by her brother, Wayne Watkins; her daughters, Dale Nelson, Dana Johnston, and Emily Alberta; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren; stepchildren, James Paxton, JoAn Boman, Patty Jo McCrea, Sandy Beasley, and Margaret Ferrera; 13 step-grandchildren, 11 step-great-grandchildren, and 1 step-great-great grandchild.

She is preceded in death by her husbands, Donald Frederick Pfafflin, Jack Riley, William Clark Paxton, and Robert William Hippe.

A celebration of life will be in Burlington at V.O.’s on Jefferson Street on Saturday, March 11 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. An additional celebration of life will be held in Santa Fe, N.M. on Saturday, April 8 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. (location to be announced). A private service will be held at the Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe, N.M.

Thomas Alan Carr, 46 Years, of Phelan, Calif. died Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2023.

Born Feb. 2, 1977, in West Covina, Calif., he was the son of Danny Edward and Shirley Ann Gillette Carr.&nbsp;

Thomas was a member of Set Free Ministries in Phelan, Calif. He enjoyed collecting DVDs, watching movies, and loved animals, mostly dogs. He was very social and enjoyed hanging out with his friends.&nbsp;

Survivors include his mother, Shirley Ann Carr of Wapello; three siblings, Danny Carr of Burlington, Stephanie Carr of Sacramento, Calif., and Bobby Carr of West Burlington, and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his father, he was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.&nbsp;

&nbsp;Theresa K. Hass, 94, of Burlington died Friday, Feb. 24, 2023, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Klein Center in West Burlington.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Theresa was born on April 22, 1928, in Stanwood, the daughter of Matthew Robert &amp; May Belle Lerch Aldrich. At the age of 3 years old, she and her family moved to a farm in Clarence.&nbsp; While in the eighth grade, she moved to Cedar Rapids.&nbsp; She graduated from Immaculate Conception High School and graduated from Mt. Mercy College in 1948, with a degree in nursing.&nbsp; Theresa was united in marriage to Burnell G. Hass on July 12, 1948, at Immaculate Conception Church in Cedar Rapids. Theresa and Burnell moved to Carroll, and later to St Louis, while Burnell was in Mortuary Science College.  He preceded her in death on Nov. 8, 2003.&nbsp;

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;In 1984, they founded the Hass Funeral Home in Burlington. She worked there until Burnell died in 2003. She was a member of the Divine Mercy Parish-SS. John &amp; Paul Catholic Church, of Burlington, the American Business Women’s Association, Women of the Moose, VFW Auxiliary, Legion of Mary, and the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary. Theresa enjoyed music, especially country western, most especially spending time with her family and church friends.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;She is survived by her children, Kathy A. Hass of Burlington, Michael B. (Peg) Hass of Ankeny, Kevin M. (Joyce) Hass of Runnells and Maleia M. Thielen, four grandchildren, Adam Thielen, Lori Haigh, Amanda Hass, and Matthew Hass, seven great-grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews.

Stanley P. Wolkenhauer, 85, of Burlington, died Saturday, Feb. 25, 2023, at his home.

Born Oct. 26, 1937, in Burlington, Iowa, he was the son of Paul M. and Mary E. Stewart Wolkenhauer. He was a 1955 graduate of Burlington High School.

He married Ida Mae Johnson on Aug. 8, 1969, in Biggsville, Ill. They later divorced. He then married Sally Schwerin in 1980. They later divorced.

Stanley worked as a welder for J.I. Case for 34 years until his retirement in 1992. He farmed for 20 years South of Burlington. After his retirement, he worked for Blackhawk Freight for 10 years.

He served with the Army Reserves and was called into active service during the Bay of Pigs. He was baptized at Spring Grove Methodist Church and was a past member of the Eagles, Moose, AARP, American Legion, VFW, and Farm Bureau and was a member of UAW #807.

He enjoyed baseball, most outdoor sports, hunting, and being outside in nature and on the farm. He was a Green Bay Packer, St. Louis Cardinals, and Iowa Hawkeyes fan and enjoyed being with his friends.

Survivors include his daughter, Cynthia (Steve) Wirt of Mediapolis; one granddaughter Michelle Gerst; two great-granddaughters, Maddie Gerst and Kaylie Gerst; two brothers, Carl (Mary) Wolkenhauer of Friendswood, Tex., and Jerry Wolkenhauer of Burlington; three sisters, Sharon Huston and Joyce (Jim) Gosney both of Burlington and Mary Hoke of Overland Park, Kan., and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service for Mr. Wolkenhauer will be 10 a.m. Saturday, March 4 at Lunning Chapel. The Rev. Tammy Wirt will officiate. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the funeral service. The Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard will conduct military rites.

According to his wishes, cremation will occur following the funeral service, and has been entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.

Inurnment will be held at Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date.

A memorial has been established for Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice.

MarScine Robinson Knotts Brown, 88, of Burlington, died Sunday, Feb. 26, 2023, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born March 18, 1934, in Keokuk, she was the daughter of George Leonard and Mary Agnes South Robinson. MarScine married Russell Albert Knotts on April 6, 1956, in Keokuk, Iowa. He died Nov. 11, 1962. On Oct. 23, 1976, she married Frederick Morris Brown. He died March 22, 1998.&nbsp;

MarScine worked for Winegard before working at the Social Security Office and Job Service (Workforce).

She was a member of Second Baptist Church in Fort Madison, Iowa. She was the past vice president and president of the NAACP. She enjoyed politics, watching westerns, and loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.&nbsp;

Survivors include two sons, Kevin (Julie) Knotts of Holland, Mich. and Jeffrey Knotts of Burlington; two daughters, Sherry J. (Collin) Wilson and Dauphine Thomas of Burlington; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; Bonus Son, Derrick Overstreet of Holland, Mich.; and special friend, Ray Robinson of Burlington.

Besides both of her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Margo Swift, son, Frederick Morris Brown Jr., three brothers, seven sisters, and two nephews.

She was a very loving and caring woman with a heart of gold. She welcomed anyone she knew as one of her own. Her beautiful soul will be dearly missed.&nbsp;

MarScine Robinson Knotts Brown

Elaine Jeanette Stansberry, 91, died peacefully on Feb. 25, 2023, in Hospice Care at The Klein Center in West Burlington, following a stroke.&nbsp;

Elaine was born Aug. 8, 1931, to Alma (Lawson) and Charles Amile Merringer in Ottumwa, Iowa. She was a member of "The Class of 1949" Ottumwa High Bulldogs.&nbsp;

She married Rex Stansberry on Oct. 23, 1948, in Lancaster, Mo. They had three daughters and one son, Connie Dianne, Karen Sue, Nancy Jo, and Randy Lee. They divorced in 1973.&nbsp;

Elaine entered the workforce at Younkers Dept. Store in Ottumwa, Iowa in 1963 where she continued to work until 1985. She transferred to Younkers in Burlington after the closing of the Ottumwa store. Elaine continued to work at the Younkers store until she retired at age 72.

While working and raising four children, she had a large garden and preserved the vegetables that she grew. She was an excellent seamstress and sewed most of her daughters' clothes. She also made drapes and curtains for the home. Her work ethic was passed on to her children.&nbsp;

In her "spare time," she played bridge and attended "24 Club" which was a group of ladies in the small farming community of Hedrick and Farson, Iowa who gathered monthly for coffee and conversation.&nbsp;

Elaine was a faithful and active member of Calvary Baptist Church in Burlington where she was known for her homemade pies. She attended Bible Study and helped with children's ministries. She was a member of a Christian women's chorus that performed for various nursing homes.&nbsp;

In her later years, she was a voracious reader of Beverly Lewis novels about the Amish. She said the stories reminded her of the era of her childhood. At the Klein Center, she attended and enjoyed all the activities available for the residents.&nbsp;

Elaine was blessed with 10 grandchildren and delighted in her 24 great-grandchildren. Elaine especially loved babies and delighted in holding them.

Elaine is survived by her sister, Beverly Teasdale; daughters, Connie (Bob) Ehlers and Nancy (Bob) Huppenbauer; son, Randy (Becky) Stansberry, and all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her father, mother, sister, Marguerite Merringer, brother-in-law, Dick Teasdale, brother and sister-in-law, Irvin (Buzz) and Ruby Merringer, and daughter, Karen Haxton.

Family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, July 1, 2023, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.

Katherine Marie "Kathy" Wilbert, 76, of Burlington, died Monday, Feb. 27, 2023, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born Jan. 7, 1947, in Moline, Ill., she was the daughter of Kenneth and Genevieve Griffith Ross. On May 19, 1979, she married James Wilbert in Mt Pleasant.&nbsp;

She graduated from Rock Island High School in 1965.&nbsp;

Kathy was a homemaker and loved teaching Sunday School for 25 years.

She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Kathy loved going out to eat and enjoyed cooking, but she enjoyed other people's cooking more. She loved to read, and travel and had a special talent with kids. Kathy always watched the neighborhood kids and helped them out. Family was the most important to her and she always made them feel so loved. Kathy loved her grandchildren and was the best grandma in the world.&nbsp;

Survivors include her husband of 43 years, James Wilbert of Burlington; five children, Mark (Shelly) Masterson of Mt. Pleasant, Matt (Melissa) Masterson of Burlington, Ben (Beth) Wilbert of Hawthorn Woods, Ill., Doug (Cami) Wilbert of Winthrop, Maine, Mindy (Cliff) Donald of Phoenix, Ariz; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brother, David Ross of Moline, Ill.; sister, Karen Overcash of Milan, Ill.; several nieces and nephews.

Kathy loved going out to eat and enjoyed cooking, but she enjoyed other people's cooking more. She loved to read, and travel and had a special talent with kids. Kathy always watched the neighborhood kids and helped them out. Family was the most important to her and she always made them feel so loved. Kathy loved her grandchildren and was the best grandma in the world.&nbsp;Survivors include her husband of 43 years, James Wilbert of Burlington; five children, Mark (Shelly) Masterson of Mt. Katherine Marie "Kathy" Wilbert

Stephen Dwight Morrison, 58, of Danville, died Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2023, at his home.

Born Nov. 6, 1964, in Burlington, he was the son of Gerald Dwight Morrison and Sharon Kay Bell Phillips.&nbsp;

Stephen graduated from Burlington Community High School in 1983.&nbsp;

He owned and worked for Steve Morrison Trucking for 40 years. He hauled sand, gravel and anything else that was needed.&nbsp;

Stephen loved NASCAR and sprint car racing. His favorite was World of Outlaws and 34 Raceway. He loved riding his Harley and taking racing photography. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially his niece Kayli.

Survivors include his step-dad, Bill (Marlyce Allison) Phillips; sister, Lisa (Bob Boyle) Morrison; niece, Kayli (Jacob) Brooks and their daughter, Noah Brooks.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sharon Phillips and Gerry Morrison.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Douglas Eugene Smith, 79, of Burlington, died Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2023, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born April 13, 1943, in Illinois, he was the son of Kenneth and Julia R. Thompson Smith. He married Linda Randall and had three children together then later divorced. In 1973, Douglas married Joann Bell in Burlington.&nbsp;

Douglas graduated from Union High School in 1961.&nbsp;

He worked at JI Case in shipping and receiving for 30 years until his retirement. He was a proud member of UAW Local 807 and was part of the executive board.&nbsp;

He was a member of the Meyer Marina, Moose Lodge, VFW, Eagles Club, and the Burlington Gym. He was in the pool league for the Burlington Gym as well. Douglas was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed watching Illinois basketball and football and SCC basketball. He loved the New York Yankees. His favorite activity was going out on the river, with his wife, on the pontoon.&nbsp;

Survivors include his wife, Joann Smith of Burlington; two daughters, Debi O'Malley and Patricia Pedon; son Jeff Smith; three step-daughters, Dawn Howerton, Dede Samul, and Darsi Hodgkin; 14 grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Cheryl Beilser; one niece and one nephew.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Danny Smith, mother and father-in-law, two brothers-in-law, and one sister-in-law.&nbsp;

Mary Virginia “Ginny” Moss Burrus, 93, died Feb. 21, 2023, at RidgeView Assisted Living in Burlington, with her daughters by her side.

Ginny was born on July 6, 1929, in Hunnewell, Mo. to Ruth and Everett Moss, the second of six children. She attended Monroe City High School, Class of 1947, where she excelled in music, basketball and cheerleading. After graduation, she moved to Burlington where she worked as a telephone operator at Northwestern Bell. She met David Burrus while on a blind date in 1948, and they married on Aug. 5, 1951. He preceded her in death on Dec. 16, 1994.

Ginny served as head of the Communication Department with the regional office of the American Red Cross from 1952 to 1954, then as hostess for Welcome Wagon from 1955 to 1957. The 50s were an eventful time for Ginny as she gave birth to her three daughters, Alicia Ruth, Alexandra, and Anita Christina. She loved to say to anyone who would listen that raising her children was her greatest accomplishment.&nbsp;&nbsp;

In 1967, she became a salesperson for Sun Life Insurance of Canada, one of Iowa’s few female life insurance sales representatives. In 1970, she moved on to Allied Van Lines, where she became one of three certified female moving consultants within the company at that time. She continued in this position until 1980, when she joined her husband David at the Burrus Company.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Politics were&nbsp;very important to Ginny, and she was a staunch Republican. She made an unsuccessful bid for Iowa State Senate in 1984. However, she did catch the attention of U.S. Representative Jim Leach and was hired to work in his First District office in Burlington. When the districts were redrawn, she moved to Iowa City and continued to work for Congressman Leach until she retired in 2001. Jim Leach stood before the U.S. Congress commending Ginny and her work for the people of the First District of Iowa.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Ginny loved to sing and had a beautiful voice. She sang in Bel Canto Chorale and the choir of First Congregational Church, where she was a member. As a greeter on the Delta Queen, she would sing “In Dear Old Burlington” for the riverboat tourists. She also once had a solo performance at Hancher Auditorium in Iowa City.

Ginny belonged to many organizations, including Burlington Area Arts Council, where she was a founding member, Civic Music, Burlington Fine Arts League, and Burlington Golf Club. She loved cooking, golfing, playing bridge, and entertaining. Among the many parties she and David hosted, their annual Christmas Eve open house became a great tradition.

She is survived by her daughters, Alicia Burrus (James Holschuh) of Englewood, Co. and Alexandra Burrus (Douglas Abel) of Burlington; grandchildren, Kehr (Mallory) Schulz of Houston, Texas and Hannah (Jacob) Weaver of Austin, Texas; great-grandchildren, Calla Weaver, Samuel Weaver, and Milo Schulz; son-in-law, Christopher Schulz of Corpus Christi, Texas; brothers, William Moss and Porter Moss of Hunnewell, Mo.; and seven nieces and nephews.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Besides her husband, Ginny was preceded in death by her daughter Anita Schulz, her parents, a brother, Philip Moss, two sisters, Ruth Anne Corwin and Melissa McEwen, and nephew, Jason Corwin.

Visitation will be from 9 to 10:00 a.m. Monday, Feb. 27, 2023, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.

Mary Virginia “Ginny” Moss Burrus

Letitia &nbsp;Ann "Toots" Webber, 84, of Stockport, died on Monday, Feb. 20, 2023, at the Jefferson County Hospital.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Letitia &nbsp;Ann "Toots" Webber was born on Dec. 26, 1938, in Burlington, to Wayne and Huba Cohagan Hunt. She attended school and graduated from Stockport High School in the class of 1956. 

Shortly after graduation, she married Keith Webber and they became the parents of five children. During this time Letitia attended school to be a Medical Technician and began working at the Hospital in Burlington. Letitia and Keith later divorced. Over the next stage of her life, Letitia married and lost two husbands, Harold Allen Garmoe and Bob Johnson. With her marriage to Harold Allen, she had another son, Kerry. Her path in life eventually brought her back to Keith and she returned to the farm in Stockport. 

Letitia retired from the Burlington Hospital in 2006 and worked for several years after retirement for the Mt. Pleasant Hospital. Letitia was a gifted cook and organized many meals for family and friends. She was a member of the Red Hats Club and the Stockport Methodist Church. She will be missed by her family and the many people who called her a friend.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Letitia was preceded in death by her parents; three daughters, Karmen Webber, Karlene McPherson, and Karla Webber Moser; one sister, Lenora McCoy, and two husbands, Harold Allen Garmoe and Bob Johnson.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Left to honor her memory are her husband, Keith Webber of Stockport; three children, Krista (Larry) Hartman of Burlington, Keith Wesley Webber of Stockport, and Kerry Wayne Garmoe of Stockport; eight grandchildren, Adam, Justina, Nick, Jordan, Cort, Kaleb, Kyle, and Kollin; four great-grandchildren with one on the way; a sister, Jeraldine, Snodgrass of Keosauqua, as well as many extended family and friends.

Geraldine Elaine "Jeri" Wilson, 83, of Burlington, died Thursday, Feb. 16, 2023, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born Jan. 13, 1940, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Dwight "Dutch" Eugene and Margaret Alice Duncan Mallonee. On June 22, 1957, she married Dean Wilson at St. Mary's Catholic Church in West Burlington. They were later divorced in 1990.

She was a 1957 graduate of Burlington High School. Once her children were in school, she attended classes for a year at Southeastern Community College to become a licensed practical nurse in 1972. Jeri worked as an LPN, coder, and abstractor for Great River Medical Center for 37 years.

Jeri was a member of Divine Mercy Parish- SS. Mary and Patrick Catholic Church. She enjoyed golfing, sewing, gardening, reading, animals, and most sports especially football and basketball.

Survivors include two daughters, Kimberly (Dave) Bailey of Sperry, and Karen Wilson of Burlington; three sons, Kevin Wilson of Burlington, Kirk (Lisa) Wilson of Burlington, and Kent Wilson of Danville; seven grandchildren, Ryan (Sally) Wilson of Mediapolis, Travis Wilson of La Harpe, Ill., Karisa Wilson of Rushville, Ill., Samantha (Ben Heckenberg) Dill of Danville, Annika (Hunter) Peebler of Danville, Collin Wilson of Danville, Conner Wilson of Sioux City; four great-grandchildren, Olivia Dill, Kai Heckenberg, Archer Peebler, Brooklyn Wilson; two step-great-grandchildren, Ben and Brynn Rice; and special friends, Julie Winter of Burlington, Grace Ripperger of Burlington.

Geraldine Elaine "Jeri" Wilson

Ralph R. Gugeler, 93, of Burlington died Saturday, Feb. 18, 2023, at his home.

Born, July 28, 1929, in Burlington, he was the son of Oscar William and Ferne Maurine Gehring Gugeler.

Ralph graduated from Burlington High School in 1947. He was a member of the National Guard. On Feb. 26, 1950, he married Margie Jane Reid in Burlington. She died Oct. 4, 2011.

Ralph worked at J.I. Case and was also a self-employed carpenter.

He was a member of West Avenue Baptist Church, member of the International Gospel League. Ralph was a previous member of the Gold Wing Club. He enjoyed motorcycles, craft shows, metal detecting, and camping.

Survivors include his children Yvonne (Tom) Trimble and Gail (Maurice) Samuel both of Burlington, Sheila (Roger) Baker of Denmark, Roger (Martie) Gugeler of Oquawka, Ill., Allen (Monica) Gugeler of Oakville; 16 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter Norma Hoelzen and three brothers.

The funeral service for Mr. Gugeler will be 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24 at West Avenue Baptist Church with Pastor Dan Weinreich officiating. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Friends may call after noon Thursday, Feb. 23 at Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends 5 to 7 p.m.

&nbsp;Patricia "Pat" Ballard Kelley died Friday, Feb. 17, 2023.

Pat was born to Carl and Alice Jones Ballard in Dec. 1937 in Ottumwa. In 1964, Patricia met Larry Kelley, a match truly made in heaven, and they were married in 1965. They were blessed with children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She adored her family and loved spending time with them.

Patricia is survived by her husband, Larry, and her two children, Carla Maletta Kelley &amp; Julie (Benjamin) Vos; grandchildren &nbsp;Holly Walther, Daniel Maletta, Renae (Michael) Speight, Jacob (Emily) Vos, William (Elizabeth) Maletta, Roxanne (Austin) Bodine, and Mary Maletta. She is also survived by great-grandchildren: Jonathan, Devany, Abbigail, Sofia, Elouise, Bennett, and Colton. There are 2 additional great-grandchildren on the way. She is also survived by her brother, Michael Ballard. Patricia joins her parents, sister Sandra, and brother Mark in Heaven.

She graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1955. She attended the American Institute of Business (AIB) and graduated with a secretarial degree in 1956. Pat enjoyed working and held many secretarial and caregiver positions throughout her life. She worked for John Deere Credit Union in Ottumwa, SugarPlum Tree Nursery School in Mt Pleasant, First National Bank of Hudson, Hudson Community School District, Pella Christian Opportunity Center, Pella Open Bible Church, day-care provider for two grandchildren, and various contracting jobs with her husband until 1996.

Patricia's faith made her a loyal servant of God. She shared the love and warmth of our savior, Jesus Christ, with as many people as possible. She was an active member in every church she attended by providing Christian education, coordinating Christian groups and events, and supporting Christian friends. Her favorite scriptures are John 14:6 and Romans 1:16-17.

On Friday, February 24, visitation will be held from 5 p.m.-7 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, 14275 S. Black Bob Road, Olathe, KS 66062.

Rosie Fern York, 86, of Burlington, died Saturday, Feb. 18, 2023, at her home.

Born, Dec. 8, 1936, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Ray Charles and Constance Velma Marsh Southerland.

Rosie married John L. York on June 20, 1953, in Burlington. He died March 19, 1994. She was a homemaker.

Rosie was a homemaker. She enjoyed reading, cooking, and going to 34 Raceways wearing her bright orange hat! She loved being a wife, mom, and grandma. She was very family oriented. She enjoyed helping with various non-profit organizations such as Muscular Dystrophy Association, Wounded Warriors, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, and Diabetes Foundation.

Survivors include her children Robert L. York of Burlington, John (Pam) York of St. Paul, and Timothy (Sonia) York of Burlington; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, grandson Dustin York, two brothers, and five sisters.

The funeral service for Rosie will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 23 at Lunning Chapel with pastor Dean Graber officiating. Interment will be at Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until the time of service.

Theresa "Teri" Lynn Cross, 65, of Bowen, Ill. died Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2023, at Countryview Care Center in Macomb, Ill.

Born October 21, 1957, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Leslie "Buster" and Ann Roe Gaul. She began dating the love of her life, Dennis "Gunther" Cross in 1985. They remained together until her death.

Teri enjoyed riding motorcycles, camping, gardening, knitting, and crocheting. She loved music, especially the Beatles, and attending concerts with Gunther.

Survivors include Dennis "Gunther" Cross of Bowen, Ill.; one daughter, Bethany Ann Kuhling of Flora, Ill.; one son, Jacob Nathaniel Thompson of Ft. Madison; step-son, Simon Cross of Hannibal, Mo.; two grandchildren, Arabella and London Kuhlig; step-granddaughter, Cherish Winters; four sisters, Fonda Gaul of Burlington, Kara Trimble of West Burlington, Cody (Alex) Malner of Florida, and Cheryl Gibbons of Macon, MO; one brother, Robert "Bob" (Anna) Gaul of Burlington; and mother-in-law, Julie Bartleson of Burlington.

Margaret Mary Knight Zeran was the daughter of Mary Virginia Loring Knight and Dr. Russell Austin Knight. She was born on Feb. 6, 1939, in Rockford, Ia. at her parents' home and delivered by her father. She married Dr. Theodore Russell Zeran, Sept. 19, 1959, in Rockford, Ia.

Margaret graduated from Rockford High School where she was active in basketball, a cheerleader, glee club, and played the oboe in the concert band and drums in the marching band.

After her marriage, the couple moved to Fayette, Ia. Margaret worked for two attorneys while Ted took one more year of schooling to complete his requirements for medical school. They moved to Iowa City, Ia. in 1960. Margaret worked at the Occupational Therapy Department for four years. After that, they moved to Des Moines where Ted did his internship and were there for 2 years. Then off to Alexandria, Vir. for military service at St. Elizabeth's hospital. Then they moved to Rochester, Minn. for 3 years of ophthalmology training at the Mayo Clinic. After 15 years of Ted's training, they moved to Burlington in 1971. By this time they had three children. Mary born in Iowa City, Michael born in Virginia and Melissa born in Burlington.

Margaret's main interest and commitment was to her family, for which she cared in many ways. She had two grandchildren that she loved very much and cherished her old and new friends. She was skilled in cooking, gardening, sewing, knitting, woodworking, rosemaling painting, wood carving, and many other things which she shared with her children and friends.&nbsp;

In July 2007, her hip broke and she ventured on a marathon that consumed three years. With 11 anesthetics and seven surgeries, she was left somewhat handicapped and limited with what she could do. But she was very creative in finding ways to do the things she wanted to accomplish and keep her independence as much as possible. This attitude remained with her during her whole life.&nbsp;

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents. Surviving are three children, Mary (Jeff) Zeran Schipper, Michael (Barbara) Zeran, and Melissa Fell (Dan); her sister, Sanda Allgood (Don); two grandchildren, Emma and Tom; and numerous nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

Visitation will be from 12 to 5 p.m. with the family to receive friends from 4 to 5 p.m., Monday, Feb. 20, 2023, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.

Marie L. Weaver, 82, of Burlington, died Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2023, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born Sept. 24, 1940, in Keokuk, she was the daughter of Clarence R. and Doris Horchem Meeker. On Jan. 20, 1963, she married Warren "Bill" Weaver in Grace Methodist Church, Burlington.&nbsp;

Marie ran Marie's Needlework in downtown Burlington.

Marie was a former member of the Embroiderer's Guild. She was very passionate about needlework and created many pieces, including a stocking that hung on the Christmas Tree in the White House in 1999. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandson.

Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Warren "Bill" Weaver of Burlington; two sons, Timothy (Christina) Weaver and Andrew (Shannon) Weaver both of Burlington; one grandson, Cody Weaver; and one brother, Kenneth L. (Connie) Meeker.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation will be from 12 to 5 p.m. with the family to receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 19, 2023, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.

Barbara “Toni” Warner Spry, 82, of Granbury, Texas, died Sunday, Jan. 29, 2023.&nbsp;

She was born July 6, 1940, the daughter of Robert and Kathleen Warner Spry in Des Moines. She married Thomas White on Jan. 9, 1960. Their journey together took them to Omaha, Neb., Madison, Wis., Spencer, Burlington, back to Des Moines, then onto Bedford, Texas, and finally to Granbury, Texas.

Toni worked for the school system, then moved on to be a loan officer at the bank but spent most of her career as the Senior Property Manager at Centro Property Group.

She is survived by her husband; three children, Michael White of Des Moines, Christina McMillan of Granbury, Texas, and Eric White of Downingtown, Pa.; and four grandchildren.

Her cremation has been entrusted to Wiley Funeral Home in Granbury, Tex.

A memorial is planned for 10 a.m., Friday, March 3, 2023, at Lucas Funeral Home, 700 W. Wall Street, Grapevine TX.
