Monica Ann Simmons Blanck, 89, of New London, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 19, 2025, at Park Place Elder Living in Mount Pleasant, under hospice care, surrounded by her loving family.

Monica was born on July 16, 1935, in North English, Iowa, to Frank and Margaret LaRue Rhoades Simmons. On Dec. 29, 1956, she married the love of her life, Gary L. Blanck, at the New London United Methodist Church.&nbsp;

She was a proud 1953 graduate of New London High School and the Burlington Hospital School of Nursing.&nbsp; As a lifelong registered nurse, Monica worked at the MHI in Mt. Pleasant, then for 25 years worked as an office nurse for Drs. H. M. Readinger and William Vaughan in New London, retiring in 2000.&nbsp; Monica was also deeply committed to her community having served on the board of the Dover Historical Society.&nbsp; She had a keen interest in restoration, spending much of her life remodeling homes with her husband with more than twenty of those throughout New London. She and Gary loved to travel and one of her favorite traditions was traveling to Coin-Op shows in Chicago.&nbsp; When Gary was on the fire department, Monica took classes to become part of the women’s auxiliary.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Monica is survived by her husband of New London; daughters Tammy Watts (Mark Pugh) of Danville and Julie (Kory) Lindell of New London; grandchildren Spencer (Jena) Watts, Layne (Travis) Luttenegger, Miranda (Josh) Gray, and Baylee (Spencer) Lindell Schneier; five great-grandchildren, Lilly, William, and Henry Luttenegger, and Kainen and Kooper Watts; and two nephews, William (Izzy) Simmons and Ed (Winnie) Simmons.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother William; son-in-law Steve Watts; nephew Andrew Simmons; and great-niece Valerie Simmons.

June E. Pisone&nbsp;passed away peacefully, May 14, 2025, in her home at the age of 99. She was two months shy of her 100th Birthday. June was born in Spirit Lake. She was the daughter of Lara ‘Hedges’ Baird and Walter Baird. At the age of 16, June married Robert Cocherel just before he left for WW2. At the age of 17, June was on her own and started working at Shafer Pen Company. Three years later, her husband returned home from the war, and they started a family. June had three children, Mikey, MaryLou, and Vickie. June was preceded in death by her beloved little boy, Mikey, who died at the age of 5. Later, June and her husband Bob moved their two children to Southern California. June ultimately had four grandchildren: Wendy, Jeremy, Molly and Sally.

Later, June and her husband moved to Idaho, where she worked in airport security and ultimately for the Boise Police Department. June left the police department to care for her aging mother. She was later widowed, but June married the love of her life, Bob Waldron. The two loved to jump in their camper and travel. They would also go dancing together. Once again, she was widowed. She later met and married Americo “Jack” Pisone. The two of them were married for 17 years before she was, once again, widowed. 

June was preceded in death by her parents, three husbands, all three of her children, and one grandchild. June continued to live on her own and was actively involved at the senior center, dancing, as well as feeding all the neighborhood birds (and a few squirrels). She lived a full, active life and was a joy for all who got to know her. She was very independent and extremely smart. She remained as such all the way to the end of her life. She died exactly as she wished–peacefully, in her sleep, in her own home. She will be greatly missed by her last surviving family members: Wendy Puthuff, granddaughter; Jeremy Breese, grandson; Molly Almquist, granddaughter; and her dear nephew, Tony Baird. “The master said, ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together!’

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 20, 2025, at Greenglade Cemetery in Farmington, Iowa.

Burial will be at Greenglade Cemetery, Farmington.

Vicki Lynn Johnson, 76, of Biggsville, Ill., passed away on Friday, June 13, 2025, at her home surrounded by her loving family.&nbsp;&nbsp;

She was born on May 24, 1949, in Elmhurst, Ill., the beloved daughter of Edgar T. Haswell, Jr., and Phyllis L. (Holford) Haswell. She graduated from Richmond-Burton High School in Richmond, Ill., and went on to attend the Christ Community Hospital School of Nursing in Oak Lawn, where she distinguished herself as Valedictorian of her class. Vicki later continued her education at Elmhurst College in Elmhurst, Ill., further exemplifying her dedication to academic and professional excellence.

On July 5, 1970, Vicki married Richard Johnson in Richmond, Ill.; he survives.

Vicki dedicated many years of her life to a fulfilling career as a Registered Nurse, serving with compassion and professionalism at several esteemed healthcare institutions. Her work included positions at Community Hospital in Eldora, Silver Cross Hospital in Joliet, Ill., school nurse for the Elwood School District in Elwood, Ill., and Great River Medical Center in Burlington. In the later years of her career, she provided comfort and care to patients and their families at the Great River Hospice House in Burlington, a role that reflected her deep empathy and unwavering commitment to others.

Vicki was a devoted member of the First Presbyterian Church in Burlington, IA, where she faithfully served in several roles included singing in the choir.&nbsp; She also taught Sunday School and served as a Ruling Elder in churches that her husband pastored in. Her dedication to her faith and her church community was evident in all that she did, reflecting a life grounded in service, leadership, and spiritual commitment.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Vicki lived a rich and fulfilling life, marked by countless accomplishments and joyful contributions to her community. She was proudly crowned the McHenry County 4-H Queen and later served as a dedicated Jackson County 4-H Leader. Always generous with her time and talents, she prepared dinners for the Joliet Township High School Football Team. A gifted craftswoman, Vicki delighted in creating Raggedy Ann &amp; Andy dolls, stuffed animals, Cabbage Patch dolls, and Beanie Babies, spreading warmth and cheer through her handmade treasures. She was an active member of both the Elwood School Boosters Club and the Biggsville PC Campfire Girls. Perhaps most memorably, Vicki brought smiles as "L’Wheezy the Clown" at the Pediatric Department of Silver Cross Hospital in Joliet, where she lovingly taught children with asthma how to properly use inhalers and manage their condition with confidence and courage.

Surviving Vicki is her husband, Richard Johnson of Biggsville, Ill.; her children, Matthew T. (Christine LaChance) Johnson of Joliet, Ill., Krista R. (Nathan) DeHaan of Brainerd, Minn.; her grandchildren, John DeHaan, Cara DeHaan, Jordan Johnson, Madison Johnson, Christopher Johnson, Kayla Bogda, and Tommy LaChance; and her great granddaughter, Lilliana Lukas.&nbsp; Also surviving is her sister, Donna (Harold) Harm of Spencer, Wis.; her brother, James Haswell of Marshfield, Wis.; and several nieces and nephews.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Linda Jones.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Linda Ann Ciska Priest, 83, of Burlington died Thursday evening June 12, 2025, at the Klein Center of West Burlington.

Born on Nov. 12, 1941, in Albia, at the home of her grandparents Mark and Ollie Dewey, she was the daughter of Leo A. and Barbara J. Dewey Ciska. When she was born, her dad was an electrical welder for the C.B.&amp;Q. Railroad, and her parents lived in a bunk car that traveled all over the railroad tracks.

Linda attended many different schools the first thirteen years of her life until she moved to Burlington and attended Horace Mann Middle School- Burlington High School where she graduated in 1959 and Burlington Junior College graduating in 1961.She went on to Northeast Missouri State Teacher’s College to receive her teaching degree in French and English. After college she spent the summer in France in a foreign exchange teaching program.

Linda taught the first three years in Dewitt, Iowa where every summer would take her French Students to Quebec, Canada. She moved to Indianapolis, Indiana where she met and married Jerry J. Priest. She later received her Master’s degree in Muncie, Indiana, and continued teaching French and English for 30 plus years in the Indiana school system.

Linda’s hobbies included needlepoint, knitting, bowling, reading and was a member of the Quilting Bee’s at her church. She would take her nieces and nephew every summer for two weeks and do fun things.

She is survived by her sisters: Barbara Ciska McCollum and Sandra Ciska Klesner, also three nieces, Bobbie Cobb, Kimberly Taeger, and Kelli MacGregor and one nephew, Chad McCollum; eight great and five great-great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Barbara Ciska, her husband Jerry J. Priest, and brother-in-law Jerry McCollum.

According to Linda’s wishes she has been cremated and inurnment with a graveside service will be held at a later date in Washington Park East Cemetery in Indianapolis, Indiana beside her husband.

Nyla Kae French, 70, of Dallas City, Ill., passed away Tuesday, June 17, 2025 peacefully at her home.&nbsp;

Nyla was born April 6, 1955 in LaHarpe, Ill., the daughter of D. Nyal and Jacquelyn M. Strong Thomas. Nyla and her brother Bill spent their childhood growing up in their family's home on the Mississippi River in Dallas County. She was a 1973 graduate of Dallas City High School, attended Southeastern Community College in West Burlington, Iowa, and received her bachelor's degree from Iowa Wesleyan University in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. Nyla began her 35-year art teaching career at her alma mater in Dallas City. Following the school’s consolidation with Nauvoo-Colusa, she continued as an art teacher there until her retirement in 2024. Nyla influenced many lives throughout her career. Her passion for art inspired many students to pursue their own creative endeavors in the art field. Early in her career, she taught summer art classes at the Burlington Arts for Living Center. She volunteered her talents to design the set of many school plays and musicals. She also donated her art for many worthy causes. One of Nyla's favorite things other than art was traveling. Over the years, many special trips were made out east to see her brother Bill. Besides art and teaching, Nyla also loved the river, boating, cooking and enjoying meals with her family, and most importantly, spending time with her grandchildren who were the light of her life.&nbsp;

Survivors include her brother Bill (Janie) Thomas of Newton, New Jersey. Two children: Katie (Luke Heckenberg) French of Tennessee, Ill., and Tyler (Mary Zippe) French of Burlington; five grandchildren: Denver and Max French, Rhys Heckenberg, and Ezra and Indigo French; numerous cousins; and her beloved dog, Jasper, and cat, Chester.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her parents.&nbsp;

Cremation has been entrusted to Banks &amp; Beals Funeral Home.&nbsp;

Friends may call after 2 p.m. Friday, June 20, 2025 at Banks &amp; Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 21, 2025, at Banks &amp; Beals in Dallas City, with Ruth Higgins officiating. A Celebration of Life will follow the services at The Landing in Dallas City.

&nbsp;Laura Ann Becker, 75, of West Point, Iowa, passed away at 3:09 p.m. Thursday, June 12, 2025, at Birkwood Village in Fort Madison.

She was born on January 29, 1950, in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, the daughter of Leonard and Margaret (Jacobsmeier) Lampe. On May 16, 1970, she married Gary Francis Becker at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in West Point.

She is survived by her husband: Gary; three sons: Chad (Angie) Becker of Wichita, Kansas, Brian (Amy) Becker of Earlham, Iowa, Aaron (Amy) Becker of Monroe, Iowa; six grandchildren: Lyndsey, Cade, Grant, Jenna, Hannah, Kole; one great grandchild: Scottie; three sisters: Lou Ann Leveling, Lenny Kneedy, Jane Woodsmall and five brothers: Ron Lampe, Michael Lampe, Bud Lampe, Mark Lampe, Tony Lampe. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters: RoseMary Cary, Colette Moeller and Carol Wiseman.

Laura was a graduate of Marquette High School. She enjoyed being outdoors, watching birds, working with flowers, cooking, baking and laughing with family and friends. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family, watching her kids and grandkids play sports or perform on stage. Laura was a caring person that always put others before herself.

Her body has been entrusted to the crematory of Schmitz Funeral Homes for cremation.

A visitation will begin at 12:00 noon, Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at Schmitz Funeral Home in West Point, where the family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. that evening. A Christian wake service will be held at 5:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 19, 2025, at St. Mary’s of the Assumption Catholic Church in West Point with Father Dan Dorau as celebrant.

Betty Lou Stukerjurgen, 82, of West Burlington, Iowa, died Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at Parkview Care Center in Fairfield. Born June 1, 1943, in Fort Madison, Iowa, she was the daughter of Harold and Ruth Boeding.

Joanne Kathryn Meth, 87, of West Burlington, died Thursday, June 12, 2025, at the OakView Nursing Home and Rehabilitation in Burlington surrounded by the love of her family.

Born April 26, 1938, in Washington, Iowa, she was the daughter of Floyd "Tony" E. and Edith E. Jarrard Kerr. On Oct. 10, 1997, she married Richard Warren Meth in Crapo Park. He preceded her in death on Feb. 28, 2019.

She spent 12 1/2 years with ADM Elevator, bringing her determination and warmth into every role she took on. Later, she found purpose in caring for others, working for over 14 years as a Certified Nursing Assistant with Mobile Nursing in Fort Madison.&nbsp;

Joanne was a former member of the West Burlington United Methodist Church and often volunteered her time with Great River Home Hospice, offering comfort to others in their final days. She was a long time member of T.O.P.S. (Take Pounds Off Sensibly) and K.O.P.S. (Keep Pounds Off Sensibly). Joanne loved her flowers, making custom cards for family and friends, and playing games on her phone.

Survivors include her son, Dale (Paula) Hayden of Burlington; two daughters, Lorri L. (Harold) Johnson of Silver Springs, Fla. and Raylene K. Garrison of Carthage, Ill.; two step-sons, Dale (Amy) Meth of Stronghurst, Ill. and Harold Meth of Burlington; step-daughter, Carol (Dan) Steagall of Moline, Ill.; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; two brothers, Floyd E. "Gene" (Bonnie) Kerr of Lake St. Louis, Mo. and James L. (Jane) Kerr of North Liberty; and sister, Judith K. (Ernest) Pilkington of Gladstone, Ill.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.

Born June 15, 1975, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Phillip D. and Georgia Lynn McNamee Wilcox. On Aug. 15, 1997, she married Clifford Duane Andrews in Burlington.&nbsp;

Traci enjoyed drawing, watching shows about the paranormal and jamming out to music. She liked to play all kinds of video games, but had a soft spot for Legend of Zelda on Nintendo 64. Traci could be found walking around town to get to anywhere she wished to go. Traci loved her friends and family and would prepare all kinds of food, to show her love.&nbsp;

Survivors include her children, Shalamar Holloway, Prince Holloway, Johnny Holloway, Shaunta Andrews, Jon Tracy, and Britney; two grandsons, Isiah Prince Scott-Holloway and Ederick Andrews; husband, Clifford Andrews; two brothers, Rick Wilcox and Charlie McNamee; step-mother, Tonda Wilcox; several step-siblings and many extended family members and friends.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, parents, two brothers, Chad McNamee and Aaron Wilcox and uncle, Greg McNamee.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Denise J. Sweet, 70, of Burlington, died Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born August 19, 1954, in Peoria, Ill., she was the daughter of Charles and Doris Rowland. She married Dean Sweet on February 1, 1991.

Denise worked as a security officer for I.A.A.P. for 25 years and served as the family support liaison for the Southeast corner region for the Iowa National Guard and received the Army Commander’s Award for Public Service in 1996 and the Governor’s Volunteer Award, presented by Governor Terry Branstad in 1998.

She was a girl scout through the Cadet years, then became a leader. Her girl scout troop in Peoria made their own badges. She played on the I.A.A.P. softball team and was a member of the union until her retirement.

She enjoyed researching ancestry, reading, trying new recipes, watching Yellowstone and playing bingo at Mesquawki Casino.

She is survived by her husband Dean Sweet; two daughters Sabrina (Ty) Buras and Spring (Trisha) Buras; three granddaughters; two grandsons; two great grandsons; one great granddaughter; sister Elaine Sue Elliott (Lou Basso); very special brother-in-law Larry Johnson and several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, brother, half brother and maternal and paternal grandparents.

Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Sunday, June 15th at Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends.

The funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 16th at Lunning Chapel. Pastor Paul Walker will officiate. Burial will be in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery. Casual attire (jeans/T-shirts) is requested.

Janice J. Heinz, 86, of Burlington, died Thursday, June 12, 2025, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Born on March 29, 1939, in Wayland, Iowa, she was the daughter of Rex Bain and Minnie (Rich) Peterson. On August 4, 1980, in Burlington, she married Russell E. Heinz. He survives.

Jan graduated in 1957 from Waco High School. She worked for Champion Spark Plug for 31 years where she retired from in 1991. Jan was a member of First Assembly of God Church in Burlington for 29 years where she served as a greeter for many years. She and Russ loved taking trips across the country, especially to Lake of the Ozarks and Branson, Missouri. In her free time, she enjoyed being outdoors, decorating and cooking large family meals and sitting down together at the table. Every year she planned a new theme for Christmas and would decorate her tree, table setting and the lady’s event at her church for their Christmas celebration. Jan had a heart to serve and she never turned away from the opportunity to help where needed and would never ever turn down a cup of vanilla ice cream from Dairy Queen. Her family was of high importance to her as was her relationship with the Lord. She lived her life to serve God and that’s what made her the amazing wife, mother and friend that she was.

She is survived by her husband Russ; four children: Mathieu (Linda) Hobbs, Christine (Mark) Dye, Brent (Jill) Heinz all of Burlington, and Amy Heinz of Des Moines; three grandchildren: Ben, Alex and Nick; brother Ricky Peterson of Wisconsin and two sisters: Linda (Steve) Metcalf of Oakville, Iowa and Cheryl Hembry of Emerson, Iowa. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; step-father Loren Peterson and grandson Patrick.

The funeral service for Jan will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday June 18, 2025, at Lunning Chapel, with Loren Whitlatch officiating. A one-hour visitation will be held prior to the service at 10 a.m. at Lunning Chapel where the family will meet with friends. Interment will be held in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

A memorial has been established in her memory for the Iowa Special Needs Foundation.

She lived her life to serve God and that’s what made her the amazing wife, mother and friend that she was.She is survived by her husband Russ; four children: Mathieu (Linda) Hobbs, Christine (Mark) Dye, Brent (Jill) Heinz all of Burlington, and Amy Heinz of Des Moines; three grandchildren: Ben, Alex and Nick; brother Ricky Peterson of Wisconsin and two sisters: Linda (Steve) Metcalf of Oakville, Iowa and Cheryl Hembry of Emerson, Iowa. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents; step-father Loren Peterson and grandson Patrick.The funeral service for Jan will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday June 18, 2025, at Lunning Chapel, with Loren Whitlatch officiating. A one-hour visitation will be held prior to the service at 10 a.m. at Lunning Chapel where the family will meet with friends. Interment will be held in Aspen Grove Cemetery.A memorial has been established in her memory for the Iowa Special Needs Foundation.

James Allen "Jim" Franklin, 79, of Burlington, died peacefully on June 12, 2025, at Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice in West Burlington.

Born on January 16, 1946, in Chapin, Ill., Jim was the son of William Claude and Mary Edith (Reynolds) Franklin. After graduating high school, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1964. He served proudly with the 1st Marine Division in Vietnam and was honorably discharged in December 1968 with the rank of sergeant—a distinction he cherished for the rest of his life.

On July 31, 1971, Jim married the love of his life, Nancy Jo Menke, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in West Point, Iowa. Jim spent 32 years with J.I. Case in Burlington, retiring in 2000. After retirement, he volunteered at Hopefully Yours in Burlington.

Jim loved sports. In his younger years, he could be found on the baseball diamond. Later, he enjoyed bowling, softball, and golf. He also found quiet joy in fishing in the summer and deer hunting each fall. His hobbies also included playing pool and cards with friends.

Jim and Nancy shared a spirit of exploration. From Alaska’s glaciers to Mediterranean ports, they crisscrossed the globe on cruise ships—sometimes for voyages as long as 50 days—collecting friends and stories along the way.

Jim is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Nancy; three children, Brian Franklin, Amy Franklin, and Molly (Mark) Ostap; six beloved grandchildren; sisters Linda (Tom) Paul and Jane White; and many cherished nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Judy, and his granddaughter, Hannah.

Jim and Nancy have been blessed with friends and acquaintances who have been “God winks” during this difficult time. They know who they are, and Jim’s family thanks them.

Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 17 at SS Mary and Patrick Church of Divine Mercy Parish in West Burlington. The memorial mass will follow at 2:00 p.m. The Rev. Father Dominic Nguyen will be the celebrant. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery at a later date.&nbsp; The Hamilton Walters Marine Corps League will render full military honors.

She was a very gifted seamstress and loved to sew, knit, crochet and craft. Claudetta also used to make clothes, quilts, blankets and many other things that she would sell in town and online. Survivors include her son, Stanley J Tucker of Burlington; sister, Alice "Penni" Tucker-Mickens of Des Moines; two nieces and a nephew, Tracie Currie, David (Alice) Robinson Jr. both of Des Moines, Chanell Harrison of Corpus Christi, Texas. Burr, 65, of Lomax, died June 11, 2025, at home after a long and difficult battle with cancer.&nbsp; If you knew him, 65 was likely 36 years longer than you thought he would live, and for that his children are thankful. Sam was born October 4, 1959, in LaHarpe, Ill. to LaVerne and Mary Hamm Burr. He married Susan Barnes in Dallas City,, Ill.&nbsp; Susan and Sam later divorced.

Sam was raised in Disco and lived for many years in LaHarpe.&nbsp; A constant traveller of the US, he worked for the BNSF railroad, and subsequently the Boilermakers Union.&nbsp; He had a lifelong appreciation for the beauty and freedom of nature.&nbsp; A deep respect for the land drove him to become an expert arrowhead hunter, his favorite pastime.&nbsp; He had exceptional taste in classic rock, a love of fast cars, and a fascination with old Westerns.

He is survived by his son, Lucas Burr of Grandview, MO; his daughters, Kelli (Kevin) O’Hara of Portland, Ore., and Abby (Andrew) Ball, of Louisburg, Kan.; and one grandchild, Merrick Ball.&nbsp; He is also survived by three sisters, Sharon Reed and Beth Todd, both of Terre Haute, Ill., and Rose Lorenzen of Salem, Iowa; and one brother, Rodney Burr of Terre Haute, Ill.

Sam was preceded in death by one son, Ryan McPeak; one infant grandchild, Ezra Burr; both parents; two brothers; and one sister.

Delmar Lawrence McKay Jr. was born at home in What Cheer, Iowa, on January 31, 1937.&nbsp; He was the son of Delmar Sr. and Irene Beasley McKay.&nbsp; Delmar passed away at the Southeast Iowa Regional Home Health &amp; Hospice on June 1, 2024.

Connie Louise Heuvelmann, 76, of Burlington, died Saturday, June 7, 2025, at the Klein Center in West Burlington.

Born August 11, 1948, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Clifford and Marge Beckman Gittings. On August 3, 1974, she married Edward Joseph Heuvelmann at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Burlington. He preceded her in death on March 14, 2007.

She graduated from New London High School in 1966 and graduated from SCC in 1968.

Connie worked as a secretary in Nursing Administration for the Burlington Medical Center and later for Great River Medical Center for 40 years.

She was a member of the Shinar Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Connie enjoyed gardening, antiquing, reading, baking, and most of all loved spending time with her family.

Survivors include mother, Marge Gittings; son, Matthew E. (Heather) Heuvelmann of Burlington, three grandsons, Carson James Heuvelmann, Brady Matthew Heuvelmann both of Burlington, Daniel Allen Topping of Iowa City, IA; granddaughter, Megan Marie Topping of Minot, ND; sister, Ramona (John) McCarty of Austin, TX; numerous nieces and nephews including her special nephew, Brandon (Lynn) Gittings of Reed Point, MT.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her father and brother, Richard E. Gittings.

A private family graveside service will be held at the Shinar Cumberland Presbyterian Cemetery.

Keo Marjorie Nelson, 104, of West Burlington, died Saturday, May 31, 2025, at the Klein Center in West Burlington.

Born Aug. 18, 1920, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Harry J. and Keo C. Glantz Schnicker. She graduated from Burlington High School as class valedictorian. On June 21, 1952, she married Paul Willard Nelson in Burlington. He died on August 2, 1974.

For many years she cared for her children and parents. Later in life, Marj held secretary positions for several companies throughout the years. She ended her career in her 80's, retiring from the Southeast Iowa Area Agency on Aging.

She was a lifelong member of Messiah Lutheran Church and the Martha Niehaus King's Daughters Circle for over 45 years. Marj enjoyed spending time with her family.&nbsp;

Survivors include her daughters, Christina (Joel) Hanger of Burlington, and Margaret Nelson of Ottumwa, IA, two grandchildren, Nicholas (Casey) Hanger and Alixandria (Kaleb) Moser; and two great-grandchildren, Addison and Riley; one niece and two nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, Violet, Elizabeth and Rachel and one nephew.&nbsp;

Keo Marjorie Nelson

Kathy Ann Cagle, 75, of Burlington, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 31, 2025.

Born April 6, 1950 in Burlington, she was the daughter of Pat and Marie Langer Patterson. Kathy earned her nursing degree at SCC and worked for Burlington Medical Center before devoting her life to her home and family. She married Dr. Jon H. Gates on October 9, 1977, in Nauvoo, Ill. and together raised eight children before his passing on Dec. 12, 2002. On Dec. 30, 2006, she married Thomas J. Cagle in Burlington, and they shared 19 wonderful years as husband and wife.

Kathy loved to be physically active, especially biking and working out with friends at the Burlington YMCA several times a week. She had a soft spot for animals and rescued many cats over the years. She enjoyed reading, Cardinals’ Baseball, puzzles, all things Abraham Lincoln, summertime, barbecues and Mexican food while sipping on a Diet Coke. Her faith in the Lord was strong. But Kathy’s family brought her the most joy, the roles of Wife, Mother, Grammy, Sister, Daughter, and Friend meaning the most to her. She was beautiful, strong, loyal, hilarious, fun, loving, generous and kind and will be deeply missed.

Survivors include husband, Tom Cagle; two brothers, Bill (Julia) Patterson and Bob (Marta) Patterson; eight children, Tina (Trent) Vance, Ben Gates, J.P. (Jenna) Gates, Kelly (Gordon) Hunt, Steve Gates, Mike (Mary) Gates, Terri (Eric) McCrory, and Sandy (Damon) Wick; three step-children, Tanya (Mitch Roth) Cagle-Blum, Troy (Jenny) Cagle, and Taylor (Nicki) Cagle; 19 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and late husband, Jon.

She had a soft spot for animals and rescued many cats over the years. She enjoyed reading, Cardinals’ Baseball, puzzles, all things Abraham Lincoln, summertime, barbecues and Mexican food while sipping on a Diet Coke. Her faith in the Lord was strong. But Kathy’s family brought her the most joy, the roles of Wife, Mother, Grammy, Sister, Daughter, and Friend meaning the most to her. She was beautiful, strong, loyal, hilarious, fun, loving, generous and kind and will be deeply missed.Survivors include husband, Tom Cagle; two brothers, Bill (Julia) Patterson and Bob (Marta) Patterson; eight children, Tina (Trent) Vance, Ben Gates, J.P. Robert M. “Bob” Kobs, 72, of Burlington, died Saturday, May 31, 2025, at his home.

Born on October 29, 1952, in Washington, Iowa, he was the son of Robert J. and Marcia Fulton Kobs. In July of 1972, he married Sherry Cable, of that union they had one daughter Elke. They later divorced. On Aug. 29, 1992, he married Rusty Anne Helmick, she survives.

Bob was a 1972 graduate of Burlington High School. He served in the United States Navy from 1972 to 1976. He worked for Burlington Northern Santa Fe and retired after 27 years. Bob then worked for Big River Resources for several years. In his free time, he enjoyed going out on his pontoon boat and fishing. Bob also enjoyed hunting, gardening, bird watching, tinkering around and working on do-it-yourself home projects. He was known for his delicious turkey and homemade egg noodles that he would serve up every Thanksgiving and the fresh from scratch Angel Food cake and cookies. Most of all Bob loved being with his family and his grandchildren brought him the most joy.

He is survived by his wife Rusty; four children: Elke Constantine of San Diego, California, Nicole (Brandon) Jarvis of Burlington, Jessica (Isaac) Tubbs of Austin, Texas, and Kacie Burger of Burlington; eight grandchildren: Zoe, Theo, Phoebe, Cameron (Cassie), Ethan, Lucas, Nic and Jason; one great granddaughter Ivy Rose; four sisters: Joann Forquer, Linda (Konrad) Schmidt, Kae (Tom) Calfee and Chris (John) Herman; one half-sister Dawn Kobs and four step siblings: Harold Miller, Bob Miller, Sue Miller Kline and Ann Miller. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; step mother Carol Kobs; two brothers Dave and Kenny Kobs and brother in-law Gary Forquer.

Per his wishes cremation has been entrusted and accorded to the care of Lunning Chapel.

Visitation will be held at 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, June 7, 2025, at Lunning Chapel. The Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard will render full military rites at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 7, 2025, at Lunning Chapel. Interment will be held in Burlington Memorial Park at a later date.

Arlan Meloy Bangs, 79, of Burlington, died Sunday, May 25, 2025, at his home.

Born May 28, 1946, in West Hope, North Dakota, he was the son of Gilbert and Melba Bangs. He was a graduate of Newberg High School in Newberg, North Dakota and earned his A.A. degree in Retail Marketing.

He served in the Army during the Vietnam war and continued to serve with the Air Force Reserves, retiring as an EA after 23 years. He was an over the road computer programmer for several years for various businesses and worked in production at General Electric and also for Preferred Security.

He married Becky Harris on July 17, 1993.

Arlan served as the head of Civil Air Patrol and had his pilot’s license. He loved to fly. He was a member of the Masons, American Legion, VFW, Moose, Eagles, the New London Country Club, the NRA, the Big Hollow Shooting Range and the Society of the 1st Division Infantry. He served on the Steamboat Days Board of Directors, the Zoning Committee and was a team lead for J&amp;M Displays for several years.

He loved golfing, camping and the Minnesota Vikings, but most importantly he loved his time spent with his grandchildren and doting on his wife Becky who was his pride and joy.

Arlan is survived by his wife of 36 years Becky Bangs; children, Jeremy Mark Bangs, Dallas Dale Parker, Roxy Jean Myers, Robbie Lee Escher and Rusty Ola Regee’ Bangs; 11 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

The Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard will render full military honors at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 15 at Lunning Chapel. Visitation will follow with family to receive friends until 4 p.m.

A memorial has been established for the New London Country Club.

According to his wishes, cremation has been entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel. Burial will be held at a later date in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

Lawanna E. "Lanny" Crowner passed away peacefully at the age of 72 on May 28, 2025, in Coralville, Iowa, with her son Steven by her side, after bravely battling cancer.

In her later years, she found joy in volunteering at West Burlington Elementary School, where she helped children develop their reading skills. Her kindness and patience left a lasting impact on many young lives.In retirement, Lawanna continued to share her warmth and generosity, spending time at her daughter-in-law's daycare, reading books, playing, and dancing with the children. her laughter and love made every moment brighter for those around her.Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her, as she leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and unwavering kindness.She is survived by her two sons, Steven (Cayla) Crowner of Coralville and Jeremy (Ashley) Crowner of Kalona and seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John Crowner, and her son John Crowner III.According to her wishes, cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, rural West Burlington.
