Kenneth Wayne Rechkemmer, 88, of Burlington, died at 9:45 PM Sunday, February 13, 2022, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born June 18, 1933, in Des Moines County IA, he was the son of Alvin and Mabel Ruth Kramer Rechkemmer. On June 10, 1955, he married Doris Ann Riemann at Kingston Methodist Church.&nbsp;

He was a 1952 graduate of Oakville High School in Oakville.&nbsp;

He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving during the Korean War from May 15, 1953 until April 26, 1955.

Ken worked for Champion Spark Plug for 34 years before retirement.

He was of Methodist faith and a member of Mediapolis United Methodist Church. He was a member of the American Legion Post #243, Union Local No. 1237 and Ducks Unlimited. Ken enjoyed woodworking, fishing, hunting and gardening. He also enjoyed spending time with his wife, Doris Ann, at their cabin at Lake Odesa. He loved baseball, playing on slow pitch teams and cheering his grandchildren on. He was also an avid fan of the New York Yankees, Hawkeye, and Green Bay Packers fan.&nbsp;

Survivors include his wife, Doris Ann of Burlington, IA; one daughter, Janice (Dick) Burch of Wever, IA; one son, Kevin (Jane) Rechkemmer of West Burlington;&nbsp; three grandchildren, Brett (Kara) Burch, Will (Danita) Rechkemmer, and Alison Rechkemmer; two great-grandchildren, Maris Burch and Ripken Burch; one brother, James Rechkemmer of Des Moines; and one sister, Cora Ater of Burlington.

He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Melvin, Russell, Elwood and Carl "Butch".

Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM with the family to receive friends Saturday, February 19, 2022 at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.

The funeral service for Mr. Rechkemmer will be 11:00 AM Saturday, February 19, 2022, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home. Full military honors will be rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard.&nbsp; A time of food and fellowship will be held in the community room at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home following the service. A private burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.&nbsp;

Memorials have been established for Southeast Iowa Hospice House and Retinitis Pigmentosa Research in Iowa City.

Antoinette “Toni” Kerr, age 98, of Burlington, passed away on Friday, February 11, 2022 at the Klein Center in West Burlington.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, February 21, 2022 at the Snyder &amp; Hollenbaugh Funeral &amp; Cremation Services of Winfield. A visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Interment will take place at the Winfield-Scott Cemetery. Antoinette Mathilde Frenzer was born on January 12, 1924 in Werne, Germany, the &nbsp;oldest daughter of Anna Klara (Kroll) and Joseph T. Frenzer. The family came to America in 1927 with sisters, Charlotte (Peterson) and Clara (Waltrip). Later, twin sisters Rose Mary (Moss) and Ruth Mary (Smith) were born.

Toni went to school in Burlington and obtained her hairdressers license in 1942. She worked at a few different beauty shops, but ended her career at West Hill Beauty Shop. Later she did some factory work for IRC. Toni loved gardening, baking and anything that had to do with visiting family and friends. She also owned and loved dogs, including a Maltese named Muffy and three dachshunds all named “Schnitzel.”

Toni married Leamon Kerr in St. Patrick’s Rectory on October 17, 1943. Leamon worked at Riepe-Peterson’s before ending his working career at J I Case Co. Lee preceded Toni in death on October 15, 1984. All of her sisters also preceded her in death.

Lee and Toni had one daughter, Sally Anne (Herbert) Price; two adopted grandchildren, Loren Joseph (Tennille) and AnnaLea Noel (Walker); and six great-grandchildren: Blaze, Braddock, Kyha, Keizer, Harper Ann and Tod Herbert (Walker).

Marjorie Elaine Gibson, 77, of Danville died Saturday, February 12, 2022 at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center West Burlington. Born February 13, 1944 in Burlington, she was the daughter of Lester Elner and Ruth Mary (Rice) Beck. Marjorie graduated from Danville High School in 1962. She attended University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, IA graduating in 1966. Marjorie also attended Dominican University in River Forest, Ill., graduating in 1970. She earned her MA in Library Science. On January 1, 1982, she married Richard L. Gibson in Glen Ellyn, Ill. Marjorie was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Danville. Marjorie served as the district librarian for all the schools in the MPCSD. She worked as a librarian/media center director in several local high schools for 13 years. Marjorie was elected clerk of district court in Des Moines County from 1981 to 1985. She and Richard headed up a U.S. office for printing/publishing mission near Brussels, Belgium. In her spare time, Marjorie volunteered at the Danville library and the Anne Frank Pen-Pal Museum. She enjoyed making books and information accessible to students and teachers. Marjorie enjoyed research in genealogy and her family history. She and her husband traveled extensively to all 50 states, 67 countries and all seven continents. Survivors include her husband, Richard; three step-children; three step-grandchildren; sister Marleen Beck and sister-in-law Virginia Beck both of Danville, and two nieces and two nephews. Marjorie is preceded in death by her parents and brother Donald Beck. Funeral service for Marjorie will be Friday, February 18, 2022, at 11:00 am at Lunning Chapel. Clara M. Rayburn, 86, of Sperry, died Friday, February 11, 2022 at Savannah Heights in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. Born February 15, 1935 in Burlington, Iowa she was the daughter of Ray and Mabel A. (Robbins) Stamper. She married Vernard L. “Bud” Rayburn. He died January 17, 2014. Clara worked in supply for Burlington Medical Center until her retirement. After retirement she worked in the kitchen at Burlington High School. She enjoyed time spent with her grandkids. Survivors include her five children; Betty M. (Mark) Thomson of Sperry, Sadie Jean Pindell of Burlington, Mary Joyce Johnson of Burlington, Roy Lee Charles (Sharon) Rayburn of LaHarpe, Illinois and Regina Kay Magnuson of Burlington; nine grandchildren; several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren and one sister Twila (Bob) Siner of Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, grandson Jason Rayburn, five brothers and four sisters. The funeral service for Mrs. Rayburn will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 15th at Lunning Chapel. The Rev. David Mixon will officiate. Interment will be in North Walker Cemetery, rural Burlington. Michael A. Lee Jr., 45, of Burlington, died Thursday, February 10, 2022 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics after battling brain cancer since May of 2021. Born October 15, 1976 in Burlington, Iowa he was the son of Michael Sr. and Rosella (Myers) Lee. He married Heather Ring in May of 2004. Together they had two children Cheyenne and Kenneth. They later divorced but continued to be friendly for the sake of their children. Once Michael was diagnosed, Heather has continued to be very supportive towards he and their children. Michael was a truck driver for 20 years and enjoyed driving party buses and limos for Executive Transportation in previous years. Michael loved the river and fishing became his passion. He enjoyed attending races at 34 Raceway and recently attended his first NASCAR race in Phoenix with his brother. Together they shared a love for racing and even raced Figure 8 Derby cars together. Michael had a huge heart! He cherished his time with his kids and loved his nieces and nephews as if they were his own. He was a “Good Ol’ Country Boy” and enjoyed listening to country music. He is survived by his step-children; Jacqueline Gronwoldt and Jason Martin Jr; children, Cheyenne Lee, Kenneth Lee and Echo Bergthold; his four legged, furry “kids” Princess and Bella; parents, Michael and Rosella Lee of Burlington; brother Paul (Renee) Lee of Buckeye, Arizona; his fur sister “Willow; nieces and nephews, Elizabeth, Jayden and Jaxson; great niece and great nephew, Broderick and Gracelynn; several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents and his best friend and cousin Micah Taylor. A celebration of life will be held at a later date at the Eagles Aerie #150. Michael Lee

Marilyn Ann Nelson, 97, of Burlington, died on Friday, February 11, 2022, at the Klein Center in West Burlington. Marilyn's family would like to express their gratitude to Azria Health Prairie Ridge and the Klein Center for the wonderful care they provided to Marilyn.

Born August 4, 1924, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Edwin and Catherine Muckensturm Miller. She married the love of her life, Dr. Milford D. Nelson in Corsicana, TX, on July 24, 1943, where he was in flight training in Eagle Pass, TX. He preceded her in death on October 8, 2005.&nbsp; They were married 63 wonderful years.

Mrs. Nelson was a 1942 graduate of Burlington High School.

She was a lifetime member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). She loved the time traveling with her husband to his fighter pilot reunions and traveling with her husband to Florida and Arizona for 20 years in the winter. She loved the time she spent with her family and their families and also enjoyed caring for her Schnauzer dogs.

She is survived by her four children, David (Pat) Nelson, Cynthia (Dr. Larry) Taylor, JoAnn (Jon) Wynn, and Mary Beth (Arlen) Shofe, all of Burlington; seven grandchildren, Jeffrey (Dianna) Taylor, Jennifer (Dr. Troy) Stafford, Eric (Jackie) Shofe, Andrea (Jon) Schmidt, Hillary (Mark) Hansen, Haley Oppenheimer, and Megan (Andrew) Spring; 14 great-grandchildren, Mia, Eli, Sophia, Joey, John, Brett, Samantha, Alyvia, Brooklyn, Owen, Silas, Grey, Alaina and Jack; one great-great-grandchild, Brooklyn; one sister, Judith Hanks of Burlington; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one grandson, Brian Shofe, and one brother, Merle Miller.

As per Marilyn's request cremation has been entrusted to the Prugh Crematory.

The Private Graveside Committal and Inurnment for Mrs. Nelson will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery at a later date.

Marilyn Nelson

Sondra Marie Astfalk, 77, of West Burlington, died at 5:30 PM Saturday, February 12, 2022, at the University of Iowa Hospitals &amp; Clinics in Iowa City.

Born June 3, 1944, in Ottumwa, IA, she was the daughter of Oris Reed and Velma Marie Randolph Dillener. On December 17, 1966, she married William Milton Astfalk in St. Paul's Catholic Church.&nbsp;

Sondra loved working with children and owned her own Preschool for eight years. She also enjoyed helping her friend at Vickie's Country Thyme for 21 years.&nbsp;

Sondra read her Bible every day. She enjoyed antiques and liked the outdoors, especially watching the birds and squirrels. Her favorite role was being a grandmother making sure they had a handwritten letter every Friday. Sondra will be remembered her friendly smile, selfless, compassionate and always putting others before herself.

Survivors include her husband, William Astfalk of West Burlington; two daughters, Christina (Chad) Hardy of Richfield, MN, and Suzanne Reed Todd of West Burlington; five grandchildren, Taylor (Jack Barta) Hardy, Emma Todd, Maggie Hardy, Rylie Todd, and Ethan Todd.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Lance Dillener.

Visitation will be from noon until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Thursday, February 17, 2022, at Prugh-Thielen Funeral Home.

The funeral service for Mrs. Astfalk will be 2:00 PM Friday, February 18, 2022, at Prugh-Thielen Funeral Home with Rev. James Flattery officiating.&nbsp;

 </figure>Sondra Marie Astfalk, 77, of West Burlington, died at 5:30 PM Saturday, February 12, 2022, at the University of Iowa Hospitals &amp; Clinics in Iowa City.Born June 3, 1944, in Ottumwa, IA, she was the daughter of Oris Reed and Velma Marie Randolph Dillener. On December 17, 1966, she married William Milton Astfalk in St. Paul's Catholic Church.&nbsp;Sondra loved working with children and owned her own Preschool for eight years. She also enjoyed helping her friend at Vickie's Country Thyme for 21 years.&nbsp;Sondra read her Bible every day. She enjoyed antiques and liked the outdoors, especially watching the birds and squirrels. Her favorite role was being a grandmother making sure they had a handwritten letter every Friday. Sondra will be remembered her friendly smile, selfless, compassionate and always putting others before herself.Survivors include her husband, William Astfalk of West Burlington; two daughters, Christina (Chad) Hardy of Richfield, MN, and Suzanne Reed Todd of West Burlington; five grandchildren, Taylor (Jack Barta) Hardy, Emma Todd, Maggie Hardy, Rylie Todd, and Ethan Todd.She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Lance Dillener.Visitation will be from noon until 7:00 PM with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Thursday, February 17, 2022, at Prugh-Thielen Funeral Home.The funeral service for Mrs. Astfalk will be 2:00 PM Friday, February 18, 2022, at Prugh-Thielen Funeral Home with Rev. Murray L. Ricketts, age 70, of Burlington, Iowa passed away at 12:45 a.m. on January 7, 2022, at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington. Murray was born on April 10, 1951, in Burlington and is the son of Charles and Charmian Randall Ricketts. He was raised in Oquawka for his early life and moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan at the age of 12 in 1963. Murray played football and ran track while in High School and graduated from Central High School in Grand Rapids, Mich. in 1969.&nbsp; He then attended Grand Rapids Junior College where he received an associate degree, and then went on to Michigan State for a time and later graduated from Western Illinois University where he received his bachelor's degree in education.&nbsp; Murray began teaching at Koblerville Elementary School in Saipan where he taught school and coached track for ten years. While teaching he met and married Olivia Ouhe Qian Ricketts. &nbsp; Murray was a huge car guy, and his first car was 1960s Chevrolet Biscayne.&nbsp; He is survived by his son and daughter, Aaron Ricketts of Burlington and Jessica Ricketts also of Burlington; his brother Brian Ricketts and Adelaida of Houston, Texas. Also surviving him is his niece Jennifer Monge of Houston, Texas. A number of other relatives also are surviving. He is preceded in his death by his parents. Zephaniah was preceded in death by her uncle Bryan Benally. Zephaniah was born on Tuesday, April 3, 2007, at Fort Madison Community Hospital to Shawn and Eugina Johnson. She was a ninth grader at Burlington Community School. She was in the marching band where she played the Trumpet. She was a club M Mentor. Zephaniah passed her driving exam and filled out applications for Fareway and Panera. She adopted a cat, she named Sosa on December 7th, 2021. Zephaniah was a beacon of joy and laughter; she had the gift of Joyfulness. Wherever she went her spirit could light up a room. She never failed to bring a smile to your face. Her personality radiated compassion and the perfect balance of sincerity and humor. Zephy enjoyed hanging out with her friends, Cameron, Carlecia, Tony, Caroline, Anabelle, Audrey, Marley, and her girlfriend Lanee, who she said made her life 10 x better. Zephy’s ultimate best friends for life were her sisters Paxtyn and Phoebe. Her grandmother Margaret was her secret keeper and advice giver. Zephy always liked to be organized and clean which was inherited by her daddy; she loved the smell of teakwood and Downy. She enjoyed her momma's cooking and hated cooked tomatoes. She was not religious but very spiritual. Her favorite color was baby pink, and she liked the St. Louis Cardinals, Iowa, and adopted a fondness for her momma’s team, Notre Dame. She used her imagination to create worlds in Minecraft; she loved her videogames. She was new to skateboarding and loved Vans. She listened to K-pop all her life. Her laugh and jokes were the best in the whole world. Her last gift to the world was the donations of her organs to others. She will forever and always be missed, deeply by those who knew her. Delbert J. Walker, 98, of Burlington, died Saturday, February 5, 2022, at Azria Health Prairie Ridge in Mediapolis. Born July 12, 1923, in Burlington, he was the son of Chester Lyle and Lora Clara (Loper) Walker. He married Wanda Schmicker on June 21, 1949, in Burlington. She died April 13, 2018. Delbert served in the Army during WWII, stationed in India, as a draftsman drawing maps. He worked for many years as a salesman and repairman for Burlington Typewriter Exchange. He was a member of St. Luke United Church of Christ where he was a custodian, an usher, and did lawn care. Delbert enjoyed working with stained glass, dancing, raising roses and he loved his dogs. Survivors include a nephew, Kevin (Diane) Vollmer; a niece, Donna Danielson; and several other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and sister, Winona Vollmer. The memorial service for Delbert will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 16th at Lunning Chapel. Pastor Peggy Stott will officiate. A private family inurnment will be held in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Delbert Walker

Twyla F. Royer, 90, of West Burlington, died at 5:00 PM Tuesday, February 8, 2022, at the Klein Center in West Burlington. Twyla's family appreciates the kind and compassionate care she received there.&nbsp;

Born February 6, 1932, in Mount Pleasant, she was the daughter of William "Ralph" F. and Madia (Widmer) Hilbrant. On February 15, 1958, she married Rev. John A. Royer at Green Mound Church of God in Trenton, Iowa. He passed away on September 9, 2010.

She graduated from Mount Pleasant High School and later Findlay College.

Twyla taught elementary school until she had children and was very proud to be a pastor's wife.

She loved helping her husband, John, with his many church responsibilities over the course of his career. They led many Open Bible Churches, mostly in southeast Iowa and later at the Rome Baptist Church in Rome, Iowa. Twyla was a huge prayer warrior, always praying for anyone who needed it and avidly read her bible. She enjoyed bird watching and feeding the birds. She will be fondly remembered for her peanut clusters.

Survivors include her three sons, Jeff (Kim) Royer of Danville, Rev. Dr. Marc (Dr. Marceil) Royer of Granger, IN, John L. (Julie) Royer of Durham, NC; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; brother, Richard (Helen) Hilbrant of Muscatine; brother in law, Joe (Carol) Royer of Burlington; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Robert Hillbrant and sister-in-law Jean Hilbrant.

Family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM Sunday, February 14,&nbsp;2022 at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.

Barbara A. Taylor, 83, of West Burlington, died at 11:55 PM Wednesday, February 9, 2022, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born February 15, 1938, in Schuyler county, IL, she was the daughter of Clarence and Gladys Morris Billingsley . On November 22, 1976, she married Richard L. Taylor in West Burlington. He died on March 30, 2021.

Barbara graduated in 1956 from Rushville High School.&nbsp;

In her younger years, Barbara worked in accounting services for 20 years. She also worked as a real estate broker associate for 17 years. She owned a few companies including, Tiffany's Bakery for seven years, and Moms and Babes at the mall for five years.&nbsp;

Barbara was a member of the West Burlington Christian Church and West Burlington United Methodist. She enjoyed camping, travel, singing gospel and country music, spending time with her friends and especially spending time with her family.

Survivors include her son, Damon Butler of Burlington; two step-daughters, Denise Morse of Burlington, and Diane (Randy) Jordan of West Burlington; and step-son, Doug (Amy) Taylor of Milliken, CO; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one brother and one sister.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Darrick Butler, three sisters and seven brothers.&nbsp;

On Jan. 24, 1991, Sandra married Jeffery H. Blanchard in Ft. Madison. Sandra earned her two-year nursing degree at SCC. She was a homemaker. She enjoyed following figure skaters Ekaterina Gordeeva and Sergei Grinkov on Facebook. She liked antique jewelry and she was a fan of Billy Idol. Sandra was a loving mother and wife. She loved her family and friends very much and was there to help anyone in need with her big heart. Survivors include her husband; daughter Eryn L. Blanchard-Wells and grandcat, Lastat of Waterloo; sister Kim (David) Goble of Burlington; and brother Michael (Renee) Rutter of Burlington. Sandra was preceded in death by her parents. Sandra Rutter-Wells

Richard Edwin Oetken, 97, of Burlington, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2022, at the Klein Center in West Burlington. Born Oct. 29, 1924, in Burlington, he was the son of Edward D. and Mary A. Bartusch Oetken. Richard was raised on the family farm on Irish Ridge Road five miles north of Burlington. He attended Hunter School, north of Burlington and graduated at the age of 13. Richard’s strong work ethic began at an early age on the family farm. At 15, he decided to leave home and seek employment. He worked on various farms, construction jobs, and assisted in building the Flint Hills Golf Course where he laid the water main and the first nine greens. Richard was employed husking corn and logging during winter months. Other work experiences included: Gustafson Dairy I.O.A. Foods Manufacturing Company in Cedar Rapids, McGraw Electric in West Chicago, Star Kimble Electric in Burlington, Army Ammunition Plant, construction in Marshalltown, and J.I. Case Co. in Burlington where he worked for 28 years, retiring in 1985. Over the years, he often worked two jobs. Between times he purchased, remodeled and sold six homes. In 1978, Richard decided to end working two jobs, working only one so he could begin volunteering, helping older individuals. In December 2004, he had to quit this volunteerism due to health reasons. Richard E. Oetken served in the Iowa State Guard, Co. A, First Regiment. In 1945, he was drafted into the United States Army serving in the 77th Infantry Division, Co. B. In 1946, he was transferred to the Army Air Force and served in the 136th AACS, Iceland Base Command. Corporal Oetken was discharged in 1947 at Army Air Force Base, Westover Field, Massachusetts. Richard was of the Baptist faith, a member of the Eagles Lodge Aerie 150, Moose Lodge #579, American Legion, a life member of V.F.W. Post #9162 and a Union member of UAW Local 807. Richard loved music and dancing. He attended many bluegrass, country western and gospel music events. Over the years, he attended four of the Gaither Gospel Music Shows and two Lawrence Welk shows. He loved to attend the Midwest Old Threshers in Mt. Pleasant and in 2001 was the Grand Marshal in the parade. He also enjoyed the shows and visiting all the friendly people. He gave generously to most area churches, mission fields in Romania, Notre Dame Schools, Great River Hospice House in West Burlington, Community Foundation of Greater Muscatine, and the Morning Sun Development Corporation. Richard, being a strong supporter of the military, donated to veteran memorials including: the WWII Memorial site on Division St. in Burlington, Des Moines County Freedom Rock in Mediapolis, American Legion #112 in Morning Sun, VFW Post #10102 in Burlington, and recently the Veterans Memorial Amphitheatre and WWI Soldiers Lot restoration projects in Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington, and many other national memorials and veterans' organizations. He gave to other area projects like Burlington Friends of the Depot, R.F.D. Postal Museum in Morning Sun, Danville Station Museum &amp; Library, Dover Historical Society in New London, grain rescue equipment for Danville, Yarmouth and West Point Fire Departments.  </figure>Richard Edwin Oetken, 97, of Burlington, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2022, at the Klein Center in West Burlington. Born Oct. 29, 1924, in Burlington, he was the son of Edward D. and Mary A. Bartusch Oetken. Richard was raised on the family farm on Irish Ridge Road five miles north of Burlington. He attended Hunter School, north of Burlington and graduated at the age of 13. Richard’s strong work ethic began at an early age on the family farm. At 15, he decided to leave home and seek employment. He worked on various farms, construction jobs, and assisted in building the Flint Hills Golf Course where he laid the water main and the first nine greens. Richard was employed husking corn and logging during winter months. Other work experiences included: Gustafson Dairy I.O.A. Foods Manufacturing Company in Cedar Rapids, McGraw Electric in West Chicago, Star Kimble Electric in Burlington, Army Ammunition Plant, construction in Marshalltown, and J.I. Case Co. in Burlington where he worked for 28 years, retiring in 1985. Over the years, he often worked two jobs. Between times he purchased, remodeled and sold six homes. In 1978, Richard decided to end working two jobs, working only one so he could begin volunteering, helping older individuals. In December 2004, he had to quit this volunteerism due to health reasons. Richard E. Oetken served in the Iowa State Guard, Co. A, First Regiment. In 1945, he was drafted into the United States Army serving in the 77th Infantry Division, Co. B. In 1946, he was transferred to the Army Air Force and served in the 136th AACS, Iceland Base Command. Corporal Oetken was discharged in 1947 at Army Air Force Base, Westover Field, Massachusetts. Richard was of the Baptist faith, a member of the Eagles Lodge Aerie 150, Moose Lodge #579, American Legion, a life member of V.F.W. Post #9162 and a Union member of UAW Local 807. Richard loved music and dancing. He attended many bluegrass, country western and gospel music events. Over the years, he attended four of the Gaither Gospel Music Shows and two Lawrence Welk shows. He loved to attend the Midwest Old Threshers in Mt. Pleasant and in 2001 was the Grand Marshal in the parade. He also enjoyed the shows and visiting all the friendly people. Richard Oetken

George Edward Williamson, 59, of Burlington, died at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center, on Feb. 2, 2022. George was born Dec. 31, 1962, in Burlington, to the late Katherine Mary Williamson. He was raised by his foster parents, the late Nathaniel and Margaret Kinnard.

George graduated from Burlington High School in 1981. George worked various jobs at Hope Haven, Goodwill, and McDonalds. He was a lifelong member of the oldest Iowa Boy Scout of America troop, Troop 3, of Burlington. He loved attending Boy Scout events held by his troop such as teaching Indian Lore and Tribe and Tribe protocols. He dedicated his time to the Tribe of the Silver Tomahawk and proudly received the Eagle Scout award. His commitment to the troop includes his participation in the National Jamboree, summer camp at Camp Eastman, Mississippi Valley Council outings, as well as other monthly camp outings.

He was very active in the community. Every Christmas season, he worked with the Burlington Marine’s Toys for Tots to help share the joy of Christmas, through gift giving for a young child. He was a lifelong Pittsburg Steelers fan and enjoyed watching the St. Louis Blues hockey games. George accepted the Lord, our savior, and was baptized at a very young age, when he was a member of St. John AME Episcopal Church, in Burlington.&nbsp;

He is survived by his brother Terry Williamson of Wright City, Mo.; three sisters, Leslie Williamson, and Susan (Lance) Traylor of Wright City, Mo., Camille Williamson of Las Vegas, N.V., Donna (Nicholas) Gray of McDonough, Ga., foster sister Sherry Williamson of Wright City, Mo., and foster sister Lorretta Morris of Clarksville, Tenn. He also leaves to mourn several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He also leaves his lifelong best friends Paul Newman and Leon Wilson.&nbsp;

George preceded in death by his mother, Katherine; foster parents, Nathaniel and Margaret Kinnard; two uncles, Robert Williamson and George Williamson; and two aunts, Anna Williamson and Ella Sharp.&nbsp;

George will be greatly missed by those that loved him most. Although he is no longer with us, he will NEVER be forgotten.

Visitation will be from noon until 7 p.m. with the family to receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 11 at Prugh-Thielen Funeral Home.

The funeral service for Mr. Williamson will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 12 at Prugh-Thielen Funeral Home with Pastor Nathan Bridges officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery following the service.

George Williamson

Dolores Elaine Shoemaker, 101, of Burlington, died at 4:48 p.m. Friday, Feb. 4, 2022, at Savannah Heights in Mount Pleasant.

Born Nov. 28, 1920, in Green Bay Township, Iowa, she was the daughter of Rolland and Georgia May Peel Yaley.&nbsp; On Nov. 22, 1941, she married Joseph Charles Shoemaker in Kahoka, Mo.&nbsp; He passed on July 12, 2016.

She was a graduate of Burlington High School.

Prior to being a homemaker, mother, and grandmother, Dolores worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company and Campbell Chain.

Dolores was a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). She enjoyed playing bridge, going camping, golfing, and being involved with the King's Daughters. She also loved spending time with her grandsons.

Survivors include son, Joseph "Jody" (Susan) Shoemaker of West Burlington, and two grandsons, Matthew Shoemaker of Burlington and David Shoemaker of West Burlington.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Dorene Patrick.

Cremation has been entrusted to the Prugh Crematory.

A graveside service will be held for Dolores at Aspen Grove Cemetery at a later date.

Randy Wagner, Sr., 67, of Burlington, died at 9:15 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, 2022, at the University of Iowa Hospitals &amp; Clinics in Iowa City.

Born Oct. 4, 1954, in Burlington, he was the son of Harold L. and Bonnie J. Schmitz Wagner.

He worked as a meter reader for Iowa Southern Utilities, prior to working in construction.

In his youth, he attended Messiah Lutheran Church, and later attended the First Assembly of God Church.

He loved motorcycles, old cars, and enjoyed playing cards, bowling, and playing pool. He liked watching football on TV and later became a Cowboys fan. He loved his dog, Joker, and his cat, Crackers.

Survivors include his two sons, Chad (Jennifer) Wagner of Byron, Ill. and Randy Ray Wagner, Jr. of Burlington; three grandsons, Jace, Brock, and Andrew; four granddaughters, Ausslin, BreAnna, Cortney, and Randi; two great-grandchildren, Beau and Axle; one brother, Harold "Buzz" (Gayle) Wagner of Burlington; and one half-brother, Marvin (Mary) Merritt of Washington.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Connie Daniel.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

The celebration of life for Mr. Wagner will be Wednesday, Feb. 9 from 2 to 5 p.m., at Doris' Tavern.&nbsp;Inurnment will be held at a later date in Keokuk National Cemetery.

She was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Bettendorf, former member of the Burlington Golf Club, volunteered her time at Birthright of Burlington, Hospital Auxiliary, and TTT Society. She enjoyed playing bridge and being an Iowa Hawkeye fan. She enjoyed working/socializing at Brinks in downtown Burlington for her 20% clothing discount and all the time she was able to spend chatting with friends. She was an avid reader and always enjoyed being the life of the party.

Survivors include her two sons, John Dobroski of Roswell, Ga., and Paul (Cindy) Dobroski of Port Byron, Ill.; two daughters, Judy (Tom) Tiemeier of Bettendorf, and Debbie (Danny) Bessine of Burlington; eleven grandchildren, Katie, Laura, Mark, Joanna, Stephanie, Aaron, Jack, Dylan, Morgan, Hannah, and Michael; thirteen Great-Grandchildren, Addison, Carter, Serenity, Chloe, Gus, Isla, Tierney, Colin, Jake, Nora, Brea, Oliver, Bodhi; one sister, Pat Urling of Florida, sister-in-law Natalie Roush of North Carolina; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jacquelin Stewart Nelson, 70, of West Burlington, was called home to be with the Lord at 1:50 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2022, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born Sept. 9, 1951, in Birmingham, Ala., she was the daughter of Walter and Pearl Stewart. On Dec. 14, 1999, she married John Nelson in Saginaw, Mich.&nbsp;

Jacquelin graduated from Tarrant High School then continued her education at the Booker T. Washington Business College in Birmingham.

While living in Birmingham, she worked for Blue Cross Blue Shield Insurance and later the University of Alabama. Following that, she worked for Genesee Packing Corp and then Rotor Coater in Saginaw, Mich.&nbsp;

Jacquelin was a member of the Union Baptist Church. She enjoyed reading her Bible, attending Bible study, watching TV, traveling, sewing, and singing. Jacquelin enjoyed playing games on her phone as well as BINGO and solitaire. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a strong, loving and caring woman who was dedicated to her Christian faith. Her smart, nurturing, and encouraging vibe will be truly missed.

Survivors include her husband of 22 years, John Nelson of West Burlington; son, Shavontae "Tae" Nelson of West Burlington; three stepsons, Devarius "Dee" Nelson, Tyranius "Ty" Nelson, Rayshan Carter, two stepdaughters, Latasha Carter and Lashonda (Jawhan) Nelson-Sanders; sister, Ann (James) Eatmon; and many nieces and nephews.

Robert Steven “Hoss” Sutty, 89, of West Burlington, died Friday, Feb. 4, 2022, at Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born Oct. 8, 1932, in Springdale, Penn., he was the son of Stephen Lawrence and Mary Sutty. He married Patricia Ann Howell on Sept. 14, 1984, in Burlington. She died March 15, 2017. Hoss proudly served in the Marines during the Korean Conflict. He worked all over the United States in construction for 40 years. He was a member of the VFW and Carthage Lake Club. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, landscaping, his cats and loved his time spent with his grandkids. Survivors include his two children, Brenda Jeanne VaLeu, Debra Ann (Tony) Leuschen both of Burlington; two grandchildren, Zachary Leuschen and Rachel Leuschen, both of Burlington; and godchild, Kelly Benz. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and ten brothers and sisters. The funeral service for Hoss will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9 at Lunning Chapel. The Hamilton-Walters Marine Corps League will conduct military rites. Interment will be held in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8 at Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends. Robert Sutty

Larry Albert Harshbarger, 80, of rural Burlington passed away on Wednesday, February 2, 2022, at his home.

He was born on January 11, 1942, to Harold and Ruth Bell Harshbarger in Mt. Pleasant.&nbsp; He grew up in Salem, Iowa.&nbsp; He graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1960.&nbsp; On July 22, 1966, he married Karen S. Wahl in Middletown.

He began working for Iowa Southern Utilities in 1968 and retired from Alliant Energy after 35 years of service.&nbsp; He was a member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.

Larry developed a lifetime love of horses as a young man working with his father and grandfather on their farms in rural Salem.&nbsp; He was an avid horseman his entire life, training both pleasure and reining horses, attending horse shows, and horse sales, whenever and wherever.&nbsp; He volunteered as a board member for numerous saddle clubs in the southeast Iowa area.&nbsp; Larry was instrumental in developing the Des Moines County 4H Horse club and served as a youth leader for many years.&nbsp; He was free with his time to any young person who shared his love of horses.

He was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather.

Survivors include his wife of over 55 years, Karen S. Harshbarger of Burlington, two sons, Shane (Pamela) of Altoona, and Monte (Rebecca) of Novelty, Mo.; one granddaughter, Brooke Harshbarger of Macomb, Ill.; two grandsons, Alexander and Andrew Harshbarger of Altoona; two brothers Kent (Karen) Harshbarger of Mediapolis and Bill (Ruth) Harshbarger of Ft. Madison; sister-in-law, Vera (Charles) Anderson of Middletown, and several nieces and nephews.

He was proceeded in death by his parents and twin infant brothers.

A private family burial will take place at Salem South Cemetery prior to services.

Visitation will be from 2 until 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 6 at Prugh-Thielen Funeral Home.

The memorial service for Larry will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 7 at Simple Gatherings Church (225 Main Street, Middletown, IA 52638) with Pastor Tracey Burgus officiating.&nbsp;

Larry Harshbarger

Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Baker, 94, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, Jan. 31, 2022, at Great River Medical Center.

She was born on Jan. 14, 1928, in Burlington.&nbsp; She was the daughter of Joseph and Edith Mitchell Morgan and was one of five children.

On Sept. 3, 1949, she was united in marriage to Vernon H. Baker, who passed away on Jan. 15, 1997.&nbsp; From this union two daughters were born: Janice (Michael) Clarke of Camden, N.J., and Lora (Mack) Turner of Burlington.&nbsp; Mrs. Baker was also very proud to welcome stepdaughter Darleen Baker to the family, who sadly passed away on June 11, 2017.

Mary graduated from Burlington High School in the class of 1945.&nbsp; She then decided to attend beauty school, so she left home for the first time, and headed to Crescent School of Beauty Culture in Des Moines, graduating in December of 1947.&nbsp; Also, in her younger years she worked at JS Schramm Co. where she worked at the gift-wrapping counter and ran the elevator.&nbsp; She next worked at Sylvania for many years until they closed; and started working at Champion Spark Plug three weeks later in 1969, where she was an active union member and retired in 1992.&nbsp; After retirement, she volunteered with the Burlington ambassadors who welcomed visitors to town and took them on tours of the city when riverboats docked or a tour bus was in town.&nbsp; She also volunteered in the Burlington school system.&nbsp;&nbsp;

She was so proud when she was elected to a four-year term on the Burlington City Council.&nbsp; She was the oldest person, at 73, to ever win a seat, and was the first Black woman to ever sit on the council.&nbsp; She was very interested in community issues &amp; helping wherever she could.

She was a big fan of the Burlington Grayhounds and spent many hours on the bleachers watching her grandsons participate.&nbsp; The SCC Blackhawks were also dear to her heart.&nbsp; She also really loved working in her yard where she planted beautiful flowers for many years.&nbsp;

She was an active member of St. John A.M.E. Church and rarely missed a Sunday. She leaves a legacy of love and warm memories to be cherished by her daughters, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

Grandchildren include Sean (Holly) Baker of O’Fallon, Mo., Brian (Ashlyn) Turner of Ballwin, Mo., Alan (Michelle) Woods of Depford, N.J., Jared Clarke, and Brandon Clarke of Camden, N.J.&nbsp; Great-grandchildren include A.J. Baker, Aliyah Baker, and JoJo (her little doggy companion who will miss her very much) of O’Fallon, Mo., Elliana, Annelise, and Elijah Turner of Ballwin, Mo., Xavier and Naomi Woods of Depford , N.J., and Caleb Clarke of Camden, N.J.

She is also loved by her grandchildren from stepdaughter, Darleen.&nbsp; Janette (Randy) Allen and family of Burlington, Jason Flowers and family of Burlington, Craig Brown and family of Middleport, Ohio, Christel Brown, and Scotty Brown of Buckeye, Ariz.

She was preceded in death by her husband, and four brothers Albert Morgan, Charles (Bunny) Hayden, Fred Hayden, and Bill Majors.

Visitation will be from 10 until 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 11, 2022, at&nbsp; Prugh-Thielen Funeral Home.

The funeral Service for Mrs. Baker will be 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 11, 2022, at Prugh-Thielen Funeral Home with the Rev. Orlando Dial as the officiant. Burial will be held at a later date as cremation has been accorded per her wishes. A time of food and fellowship will be held in the community room at Prugh-Thielen Funeral Home following the service.

Cremation will be entrusted to the Prugh Crematory.

Robert William Cohenour, 79, of Burlington, died at 11:33 p.m. Monday, Jan. 31, 2022, at the Klein Center in West Burlington.

Born Feb. 3, 1942, in Burlington, he was the son of Walden Harold and Audreen Pearl Zachmeyer Cohenour. On April 28, 1962, he married Bonnie Jean Diewold in Divine Mercy Parish-St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Burlington.

He was a U.S. Navy Veteran, serving on the USS Albany CG10 from Oct. 10, 1962, until Sept. 4, 1964. During his time in the Navy, he served at Guantanamo Bay.

Robert was a Machinist for BNSF for 30 years. He also worked as a millwright at IAAP for 10 years.

Everyone loved Bob. He was always as excited to see you as you were to see him, and always had a funny story to tell. His genuine friendly smile allowed him to make friends with anybody, and he always made you feel special. He loved rooting for Hawkeye football and enjoyed watching old western movies and shows. He was a handyman who enjoyed being outdoors and loved the water and fishing. He was a 3rd Degree Knight of Columbus, a member of the Machinists Union, and a member of NARVRE. He also played on a pool league for many years for both the Iowa Tavern and the Som.

Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Jean Cohenour of Burlington; one son, David B (Shawn) Cohenour of Richardson, Texas; two daughters, Rebecca S. (Robert "Eric") Dotseth and Lisa M. (Edward) Ortciger both of Burlington; three granddaughters, Rachel A. (Tyler) Korus of Plano, Texas, Sara E. (Austin) Ross of Dallas, Texas, and Hannah M. (Rob Sheehy) Dotseth of Huxley; one grandson, Zachary R. (Kaytlyn) Dotseth of Burlington; two great-grandchildren, Nora J. Sheehy and Kyle G. Dotseth; two half-brothers, Wayne Cohenour of Portland, Ore., and Larry Cohenour of Sedro Woolley, Wash.; and his beloved Dachshunds.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson, Chase A. Cohenour, his sister Pamela, and his brother Rick.

Visitation will be from 12 until 7 p.m. with the family to receive friends following a 4:30 p.m. Rosary service until 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 3 at Prugh-Thielen Funeral Home.

The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection for Bob will be 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 4 at Divine Mercy Parish-St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with the Rev. James Flattery as the celebrant. Full military honors will be rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard. A time of food and fellowship will be held in the community room at St. John's Cafeteria following the service. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery at a later date.

Cremation has been entrusted to&nbsp;Prugh Crematory following the funeral.

Donald A. Thie, 90, of Burlington, died at 3:00 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2022, at the Genesis Medical Center East, Davenport.

Born June 3, 1931, in Burlington, he was the son of Abner and Grace Hueholt Thie. On March 29, 1953, he married Genevieve L. Drebenstedt in Burlington.&nbsp;

He was a 1949 graduate of Sperry High School and attended farm management school in Wapello for three years.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Don was a farmer for many years. He was a U.S. Army Veteran serving as a PFC from 1959 until 1961.

He was a member of Zion United Church of Christ, where he sang in the choir.&nbsp; He was a past member of St. John's Church of Flint River Township where he served on the council and also sang in the choir.&nbsp; &nbsp;He served on the board of directors for Sperry Union Store for 56 years and was a trustee of Franklin Township for 36 years.&nbsp; He enjoyed doing stained glass and made many wonderful pieces.&nbsp;

Survivors include his wife, Genevieve L. Thie of Burlington; one daughter, Deborah (David) Stratton of Sperry; two grandchildren, Danielle (Matthew) Huddleston of Burlington, and Jason (Erin Bradley) Stratton of West Burlington; three great-grandchildren, Christian and Ian Huddleston, and Jaxon Stratton; and one brother, Robert (Judy) Thie of West Burlington.
