Jane A. Fletcher, 77, of West Burlington died Tuesday, June 20, 2023, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

Born June 29, 1945, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Laverne and Mildred Nelson Miller.

Jane graduated from Burlington High School. On Sept. 29, 1961, she married Michael “Mick” Fletcher in Burlington. She was a member of Divine Mercy Parish, Ss Mary and Patrick Catholic Church.

Jane worked at Younkers and First National Bank. For many years she worked for the Burlington School District. Jane loved working with students diagnosed with severe and profound disabilities. She retired as a librarian for Blackhawk School.

Throughout her years, Jane participated in many state bowling tournaments in her early years. She also played in many bridge clubs, mostly three times a week. She loved playing bridge at the Senior Center. Jane was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan watching basketball and football. For many years Jane drove the family support vehicle for RAGBRAI and kept the family on track each day.

Survivors include her husband Mick of West Burlington, two daughters Beth (Greg) Goodman of Washington, and Tina Brumett of Loves Park, Ill.; one son Robert (Jan) Fletcher of Chesterfield, Mich.; eight grandchildren Christopher (Whitney), Tyler, Travis, Andelain, Aaron, Joshua (Ashlyn), Brock, Brittany (Benjamin); two great-grandchildren Finn and Richard “Ry”; two sisters Susan Wheeler of Cincinnati, Ohio and Judy Schroeder Knoll of Burlington; one brother Michael (Rhonda) Miller of West Burlington and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister Linda Miller.

The Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m., Friday, June 30, 2023, at Divine Mercy Parish, Ss Mary and Patrick Catholic Church with Reverend Michael Phillips as celebrant. Luncheon will follow at the church fellowship hall. Inurnment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery at a later date.

A memorial has been established for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

Letty L. Yocum, 88, of Burlington, died Sunday, June 25, 2023, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born Nov. 24, 1934, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Lawrence and Katherine “Pat” Harding Johnson.

Letty was a graduate of Burlington High School. On July 26, 1959, she married Dean Yocum in Burlington. He died June 16, 2017.

She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.

Letty worked at Apps Music Store and was a Switchboard Operator at IRC. She was an avid reader, enjoyed traveling to England, and loved a glass of wine. She loved all animals, especially her cat, Owen.

Survivors include her daughter Jennifer Day Yocum of Palatine, Ill., her amazing caregiver Lesa Muntz of Burlington, and her beloved cat Owen.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Dean.

According to her wishes, cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel. There will be no services at this time.

A memorial has been established for the Des Moines County Humane Society or an animal shelter of your choice.

Wanda Lee Dile Sink, 96, of Burlington, died Saturday, June 24, 2023, at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born June 10, 1927, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Everett and Anna Morrow Dile. On March 20, 1943, she married Donald Sink in New London, Mo. He died July 22, 2011.

Wanda was a member of Sunnyside Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for 22 years. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Moose Lodge and the Eagles Club. Wanda enjoyed crocheting, needlework, traveling, and camping. She was involved with the Steamboat Senior Citizen Center for over 25 years, where she was the secretary for a period of that time.

Survivors include her daughter Judy (Kenny) Davis of Port Orange, Fla.; two sons Mike (Wilma) Sink and Dennis (Debbie) Sink both of Burlington; twelve grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 20 great great-grandchildren and one great great great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister, three brothers, and grandson Matthew Sink.

According to her wishes, cremation has been accorded and entrusted to Lunning Chapel. A celebration of life for Wanda will be held at a later date. Inurnment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

James A. Geng, 83, of Largo, Fla., formerly West Burlington, died May 6, 2023, at Accent Care IHC Oak Manor in Largo, Fla.

Born Aug. 15, 1939, in Burlington, he was the son of Reuben Francis and Margaret Winters Geng. On Nov. 29, 1969, he married Sarah C. Kirkpatrick in Lomax, Ill.

He graduated in 1957 from Burlington High School and joined the U.S. National Guard Reserves.

James worked 22 years at J.I. Case Company, retiring in 1992. He enjoyed playing cards, especially Cribbage and Bridge. He loved riding his motorcycle up until the start of this year.

Survivors include wife of 53 years, Sarah C. Geng of Largo, Fla.; daughter, Kathy (Mark) Messer of New London, two sons, Mark Kirkpatrick of Burlington and John (Amy) Geng of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Barry, sister-in-law Sue, and a daughter-in-law, Teresa.

The Graveside Committal Service for Mr. Geng will be 11 a.m. Monday, July 3, 2023, at Sacred Heart Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held at the UAW #807 Union Hall at 9313 Koestner St. in Burlington following the burial.

George "Francis" Kimmel, 85, of West Burlington, died Friday, June 23, 2023, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice.

Born June 17, 1938, he was the son of Rena S. Gillis, and step-father Harry M. Gillis.&nbsp; On Oct. 8, 1961, he married Barbara Kay Kimmel at the Christian Church in Lomax, Ill.

Francis worked as a heavy equipment operator for multiple companies both locally and in the Quad Cities.&nbsp; He was a gold card lifetime member of the Local 150 International Union of Operating Engineers.&nbsp; He was also a member of the Local 537 Union.

He served in the Iowa National Guard beginning May 16, 1955, and was honorably discharged on March 6, 1963.

Francis loved his work as a heavy equipment operator.&nbsp; He took great pride in his work.&nbsp; He loved quarter horses, dogs, and his barn cats, dining out, and spending time with his family and his church family.&nbsp; Most of all Fran loved his wife, Barbara.&nbsp; He was a devoted husband to her and people often commented that they were the model of love and marriage.

Survivors include his siblings, Florence White of Coralville, Lois Swank of Washington, Joe Kimmel of Burlington, Lonnie Kimmel of Bolivar, Mo., Barbie Siefken, his nephew, Tony (Deb) Mattson of Oskaloosa, niece, Paula (Andy) Morrell of Adair, and numerous other nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Francis was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Kay Kimmel, two brothers, Donald Rinaberger and David Kimmel, and two sisters, Betty Mae Meade and Mary Lou Haynes.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m., Thursday, June 29, 2023, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.

George "Francis" Kimmel

Earleen (Chi) Helen VanNiewaal, 65 , died Friday June 23, 2023.&nbsp;She was born in the Chicago area She will greatly be missed by those who love her here on Earth. After several years of battling illnesses, family and friends are comforted knowing she is now finally pain-free and at peace. She was beautiful, hard-working, creative, compassionate, funny, and fierce.&nbsp; Mom had a zest for life. She loved music and dancing. She had a strong compassion for animals, especially horses, dogs and birds. She often reminisced about her childhood horse, Cindy, and the super close bond they shared. She loved going to the rodeo and dreamed about going on a trail ride round-up like the cowboys did back in the day. Some of our best memories with her have been made camping, pontooning, and playing in the water. She had a knack for interior design and always made where we lived or traveled feel as homey as possible.&nbsp; Dad was our rock. .. and SHE, she was everybody's net. She and Dad were together for approximately 32 years. They traveled a lot (as much as they could), they shared a love for NASCAR and went to many races. They ran the FTA Speedway together for several years with us kids and close friends (family).&nbsp; We all already miss the holidays and random cookouts they would host for the whole family. The world isn't the same without these two. Now they are back together in spirit - throwing parties in heaven or sitting side by side playing slot machines.&nbsp; She was preceded in death by her husband Randy D. VanNiewaal; her beloved parents, Ruth and Manuel Hurley; father-in-law Ron VanNiewaal; brother and sister-in-law Michael &amp; DJ Hurley; sister-in-law Michelle Hurley; uncle Charles Hock; and three nephews. Robert John Siefken

Marjorie Lucille “Marge”Allender, 85, of West Burlington died Thursday, June 22, 2023, at home surrounded by family.

Born Nov. 25, 1937, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Charles and Dorothy Heuer Crowner.

On September 14, 1957, she married Robert “Bob” Allender at Mount Pleasant United Methodist Chapel.

She was a student at West Burlington Arnold Schools and worked as a nurse’s aide at Mercy Hospital while attending Burlington Beauty Academy, graduating in 1955. Being a self-employed cosmetologist for 58 years was her favorite job, holding her license for a total of 60 years. She served her community as a Girl Scout leader and Sunday School teacher for many years and, being of Methodist faith, was a lifetime member of West Burlington United Methodist Church.

A member of “The Crafty Seven,” she had a great creative mind, with quilting being one of her favorite hobbies. She made many quilts, including Quilts of Valor and won awards for her beautiful craftsmanship. She was an excellent gardener and enjoyed the outdoors. She cherished making memories with her husband, motorcycling through most of the U.S. and attending sprint car races with her family. Mostly, she simply loved spending time with her husband and family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Terry Allender; sisters, Lois Swieter, Donna Koons and Linda Dillon.

Being a self-employed cosmetologist for 58 years was her favorite job, holding her license for a total of 60 years. She served her community as a Girl Scout leader and Sunday School teacher for many years and, being of Methodist faith, was a lifetime member of West Burlington United Methodist Church.A member of “The Crafty Seven,” she had a great creative mind, with quilting being one of her favorite hobbies. She made many quilts, including Quilts of Valor and won awards for her beautiful craftsmanship. She was an excellent gardener and enjoyed the outdoors. She cherished making memories with her husband, motorcycling through most of the U.S. and attending sprint car races with her family. Gina, Marie Hester, 64, of Keokuk, &nbsp;formerly of Winfield, died Friday, June 16, 2023, at her home in rural Keokuk. Gina was born on Jan. 19, 1959, in El Centro, Calif., the daughter of James Jerome Ulshoeffer and Betty Lou McLaughlin. She married Karl Gregory Hester on Aug. 14, 1982, in San Diego, Calif. She had three children, Troy Ulshoeffer and Jessie, and Karla Hester.

Gina loved everyone deeply, but the sun rose and set on her love for her children. She was a magnet for those who were hurting, and had a unique way to seek out and communicate with those who were suffering as she was. Gina's family was her life, and she always looked forward to the next event that she could encourage her children and grandchildren in their next endeavor, being sports, band, or otherwise. She was wildly creative, being experienced in cross stitch, puzzles, or anything relating to needlepoint. She loved tattoos, and always supported everyone around her to indulge in the art of self expression. Gina was blunt, straightforward and truthful, even when you didn't want her to be. She was the embodiment of a 'momma bear' and loved her children fiercely. If anyone crossed her three children, they would feel the wrath of Gina Hester. She had an extraordinary ability to create a safe place for her kids and their friends to have fun, and many parties and get together's were held under her roof. Gina was a devoted wife and always assured that the people around her were loved, and that they knew it. She was a mother to all, and was known for her cooking, especially her lumpias, meatloaf, taco dip, and definitely her pickle wraps. Gina Marie Hester

Larry Dean Aden, 86, of Burlington, died Sunday, May 28, 2023, at his home at Bickford Cottage.

Born Aug. 14, 1936 in Burlington, he was the son of John and Sini DeBuhr Aden.

He was a 1953 graduate of Burlington High School and graduated Burlington Junior College. He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict from 1955-1957. He worked for the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant for 38 years in the Engineering and Quality Departments.

He married Geri Blythe. They later divorced.

Larry loved listening to all music, especially with steel guitars. In his younger years, he owned and flew his own airplane and loved riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle. He enjoyed playing golf and reading and spent a lot of time at the Burlington Public Library.

He is survived by his two children; Karen (Jeff) Elliott and Sandy Elmore both of Burlington; grandchildren, Derek (Jaden) Elmore and Kayla Elmore; several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren and two nephews and one niece.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother John Aden and sister Delores Fleming.

A celebration of life will be held during the Bees baseball game on Saturday, July 1 at the First Base Pavilion. There will be a special tent at the gate with tickets for friends and family. The gates open at 5:30 p.m. and game time is 6:30 p.m. The Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard will conduct military honors at 5:45 p.m. at the pavilion.

Inurnment will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, July 1 at Aspen Grove Cemetery. Mr. Andy Avery will provide music and prayer.

Memorials have been established for Kings Daughters Retirement Home and Quilts of Valor.

Gail Ann Snowden Vogelgesang, 65, of Burlington, died Thursday, June 22, 2023, at the Danville Care Center.

Gail was born Aug. 31, 1957, in Canton, Ill., and grew up in Burlington. She was the oldest child of Jim Snowden and Janice Horner Snowden’s four kids, and never let any of her siblings forget it.

She graduated from Morning Sun High School in 1975 and eventually made her home in California during her twenties and thirties, studying at the University of California, Davis. When she returned to Burlington she ran into her high school friend, James P. “Vogie” Vogelgesang, and the two eventually married on their houseboat while cruising the Mississippi on June 1, 2002.

Gail was a lover of the blues, dogs, the Chicago Cubs, and reading. She always had a book (or 15) she was reading at any given time and had an insatiable appetite for the written word.

Despite often telling her siblings she had always wished she was an only child, her love for her brother and sisters was fierce, if hard for her to express. We will miss her challenging intellect, her biting wit, and her raucous laughter.

She is survived by her mom, Janice Snowden of Burlington; her sister, Kelly Wilson of Wichita, Kan.; and her sister Lisa Snowden of Kansas City, Mo.

Gail is preceded in death by her husband, Jim Vogelgesang, her dad, Jim Snowden, and her brother, Jeff Snowden.&nbsp;

The Graveside Committal Service for Gail will be 2 p.m., Monday, June 26, 2023, at Sacred Heart Cemetery.&nbsp;

Rosemary "Rose" Ervine, 76, of Burlington, died Thursday, June 22, 2023, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born April 2, 1947, in Quincy, Ill., she was the daughter of Henry and Mary Tanner Hierstein. On Jan. 20, 1968, she married James Michael Ervine in Burlington. He died Dec. 23, 2010.

She was a front desk clerk at the Best Western and Pzazz! hotels for over 20 years.&nbsp;

Rose enjoyed working in her yard and gardening. She also liked to spend time with her granddaughter.&nbsp;

Survivors include her son, Douglas Ervine of Burlington; granddaughter, Alexandria Rose Ervine of Linn Grove;&nbsp; sister, Ramona (Mark) Hummelsheim of Quincy, Ill.; brother, Paul Hierstein of Lumberton, Miss.; and niece and nephews, Sara and Matt Hummelsheim both of Quincy, Ill.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, James Hierstein.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

There will be no visitation or services. She will be laid to rest with her husband at a later date in West Virginia.

Arthur Eugene "Art" Hill, 79, of Burlington, died Thursday, June 22, 2023, at his home.

Art graduated from Wayland High School and Barber College in Cedar Rapids. On Oct. 12, 1963, he married Sandra Gene Luse.

Art started his Barber career in 1963 working for Jones’ Barber Shop. He then opened Art Hill’s Barber Shop which he owned and operated for the next 55 years, retiring in 2018.

Art was a member of Sperry United Methodist Church and United Methodist Men. He was a past member of the Eagles Club and Burlington Golf Club. He was a gentlemen farmer and he enjoyed golfing. Art was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather and he lived for his family.

Survivors include his wife, Sandra of Burlington, his children Angela (Kevin) Pforts of Burlington, and Nicole Hill of Oquawka, Ill.; grandsons Justin Hill-Pforts, Mitchell Pforts, Micheal Hill-Vandergrift, Coleton Sutton, and Quentin Hill Jr; 15 great-grandchildren; one great great grandchild; sisters Mildred Rich of Wayland, Violet McGuire of Mount Pleasant, Thelma Bush of Burlington; brothers Johnny Hill of Palm Desert, Calif., Gary Hill of Washington, Iowa.

Art was preceded in death by his parents, two sons Quentin Hill and Mathew Hill, two sisters Beulah Manning and Linda Hill, and three brothers Dennis Hill, Marvin Hill, and Dwight Hill.

Arthur Eugene "Art" Hill

Reverend Charles E. Corns, 82, of Burlington, died June 21, 2023.

He was born Aug. 8, 1940, to Calvin and Jenny June Henry Corns in Ft. Madison.

On Aug. 18, 1961, he married Nancy Carolyn Miller in Denmark. He graduated from Denmark High School. Right after graduation he joined the Navy and served his country for 20 years in the Navy and Marine Corps as a Corpsman “Doc”! A Vietnam vet, he served two tours of duty in Vietnam.

He graduated from Palomar College in San Marcos, Calif. He worked on the Santa Fe Railroad as a brakeman and conductor.

After retiring from the railroad he worked as a Pinkerton guard at the Dupont and Climax plants.

His greatest joy came at the age of 57 when he met Jesus and gave his life to him. He was called into the ministry and was ordained as a pastor in the Nazarene Church at age 65. He pastored in Waverly for ten years then retired because of health. He was associate pastor at Burlington First Nazarene Church where he taught Sunday school and led men’s Bible study for many years. He and Nancy were also small group leaders for many years. Eleven years ago, Charlie and Nancy started the shared blessings ministry that gives away free clothes to those in need in the community.

He had been active in the VFW and Marine Corps League. He was a chaplain for many service organizations and chaplain of the Nazarene Church and also a police chaplain.

He is survived by his wife Nancy Carolyn of almost 62 years; three sons Charles “Chuck” Jr. (Lynn) of Waukee, David of Montrose, and Dr. Steven (Missy) of Rolla, Mo.; four grandchildren Kristen (Nathan) Hemmings of Grimes, Andrea (Brian) Bergdale of Grimes, David M. (Stephanie) Corns USN Bremerton, Wash., and Hannah (Nolan) Quade of Mt. Pleasant; seven great-grandchildren and one due in July Aneira Corns, Zara, Zia and Zayla Hemmings, Hunter and Nora Bergdale and Harrison Quade and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter-in-law Mardema Corns, brothers Henry and Stanley Corns, sisters Mary Bergmeier, Shirley Danley, and Barbara Six.

According to his wishes, cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.

The memorial service for Charles will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 28 at First Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Jeff Alexander officiating. Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 27 at the church. Military rites will be conducted by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for the First Church of the Nazarene.

 </figure>Reverend Charles E. Corns, 82, of Burlington, died June 21, 2023.He was born Aug. 8, 1940, to Calvin and Jenny June Henry Corns in Ft. Madison.On Aug. 18, 1961, he married Nancy Carolyn Miller in Denmark. He graduated from Denmark High School. Right after graduation he joined the Navy and served his country for 20 years in the Navy and Marine Corps as a Corpsman “Doc”! A Vietnam vet, he served two tours of duty in Vietnam.He graduated from Palomar College in San Marcos, Calif. He worked on the Santa Fe Railroad as a brakeman and conductor.After retiring from the railroad he worked as a Pinkerton guard at the Dupont and Climax plants.His greatest joy came at the age of 57 when he met Jesus and gave his life to him. He was called into the ministry and was ordained as a pastor in the Nazarene Church at age 65. He pastored in Waverly for ten years then retired because of health. He was associate pastor at Burlington First Nazarene Church where he taught Sunday school and led men’s Bible study for many years. He and Nancy were also small group leaders for many years. Eleven years ago, Charlie and Nancy started the shared blessings ministry that gives away free clothes to those in need in the community.He had been active in the VFW and Marine Corps League. He was a chaplain for many service organizations and chaplain of the Nazarene Church and also a police chaplain.He is survived by his wife Nancy Carolyn of almost 62 years; three sons Charles “Chuck” Jr. (Lynn) of Waukee, David of Montrose, and Dr. Steven (Missy) of Rolla, Mo.; four grandchildren Kristen (Nathan) Hemmings of Grimes, Andrea (Brian) Bergdale of Grimes, David M. (Stephanie) Corns USN Bremerton, Wash., and Hannah (Nolan) Quade of Mt. Pleasant; seven great-grandchildren and one due in July Aneira Corns, Zara, Zia and Zayla Hemmings, Hunter and Nora Bergdale and Harrison Quade and many nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter-in-law Mardema Corns, brothers Henry and Stanley Corns, sisters Mary Bergmeier, Shirley Danley, and Barbara Six.According to his wishes, cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.The memorial service for Charles will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 28 at First Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Jeff Alexander officiating. Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 27 at the church. Reverend Charles E. Corns

Elaine Jeanette Stansberry died peacefully on Feb. 25, 2023, in Hospice Care at The Klein Center in West Burlington, following a stroke.&nbsp;

Elaine was born Aug. 8, 1931, to Alma Lawson and Charles Amile Merringer in Ottumwa. She was a member of "The Class of 1949" Ottumwa High Bulldogs.&nbsp;

She married Rex Stansberry on Oct. 23, 1948, in Lancaster, Mo. They had three daughters and one son, Connie Dianne, Karen Sue, Nancy Jo, and Randy Lee. They divorced in 1973.&nbsp;

Elaine entered the workforce at Younkers Dept. Store in Ottumwa in 1963 where she continued to work until 1985. She transferred to Younkers in Burlington after the closing of the Ottumwa store. Elaine continued to work at the Younkers store until she retired at age 72.

While working and raising four children, she had a large garden and preserved the vegetables that she grew. She was an excellent seamstress and sewed most of her daughters' clothes. She also made drapes and curtains for the home. Her work ethic was passed onto her children.&nbsp;

In her "spare time" she played bridge and attended "24 Club" which was a group of ladies in the small farming community of Hedrick and Farson, Iowa who gathered monthly for coffee and conversation.&nbsp;

Elaine was a faithful and active member of Calvary Baptist Church in Burlington where she was known for her homemade pies. She attended Bible Study and helped with children's ministries. She was a member of a Christian women's chorus that performed for various nursing homes.&nbsp;

In her later years, she was a voracious reader of Beverly Lewis novels about the Amish. She said the stories reminded her of the era of her childhood. At the Klein Center, she attended and enjoyed all the activities available for the residents.&nbsp;

Elaine was blessed with 10 grandchildren and delighted in her 24 great-grandchildren. Elaine especially loved babies and delighted in holding them.

Elaine is survived by her sister, Beverly Teasdale; daughters, Connie (Bob) Ehlers and Nancy (Bob) Huppenbauer; son, Randy (Becky) Stansberry, and all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her father, mother, sister, Marguerite Merringer, brother-in-law, Dick Teasdale, brother and sister-in-law, Irvin (Buzz) and Ruby Merringer, and daughter, Karen Haxton.

Family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, July 1, 2023, at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.

The Celebration of Life&nbsp;for Elaine will be 11 a.m. Saturday, July 1, 2023, at Prugh Funeral Service.&nbsp;A time of food and fellowship will be held in the community room at Prugh Funeral Service following the service. Private family burial will be in Ottumwa Cemetery.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Jane Whalen, 86, of Burlington, died June 20, 2023, on her 86th birthday, at Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Burlington.

Born June 20, 1937, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Francis and Margaret “Ruth” Lansford Willem. She married William Whalen on Aug. 17, 1957, in Burlington.

Jane was a homemaker and worked for the Notre Dame High School lunch program.

She was a member of Divine Mercy Parish. She loved bowling and was a member of the Burlington Bowlers Hall of Fame along with the Red Hat Society.

Her husband survives her; three sons, Michael Whalen of West Burlington, James Whalen of Gaylord, Mich., and Donald Whalen of Burlington; three grandchildren, Jonathan Whalen, Amanda Dean, and Breanna Whalen; one great-granddaughter Leia Whalen; four siblings, Roger Willem of Urbandale, Donald Willem of White Lake, Mich., Phillip Willem and Marcia Alter both of Burlington; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

The Mass of Christian Burial for Mrs. Whalen will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 27 at SS Mary and Patrick Catholic Church of Divine Mercy Parish in West Burlington. The Rev. Father Marty Goetz will be the celebrant. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 24 at Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends.

Patricia Ann Weld, 76, of Burlington, died June 16, 2023, with her loving family by her side at the Granite VNA Hospice House in Concord, N.H., after a courageous battle with stage four cancer.

Pat was born on Dec. 9, 1946, to John E. and Wanda I. King Weld in Burlington.&nbsp; She graduated from Burlington High School and attended Blackhawk Community College and graduated from Iowa State University with a bachelor’s degree.

Pat began her career in advertising in Denver and Dallas, then worked as a paralegal in Chicago and her favorite city of Boston. Upon retirement, she returned to Burlington to care for her aging mother.

Pat was an avid reader and loved to play tennis, bake and most importantly spend time with her high school friends and her family.

Pat is survived by her brother James (Sandy) Weld of Franklin, N.H., niece Jessica (Eric) Cole of Boscawen, N.H., nephew Brandon Weld of Loudon, N.H., great-nieces Emily and Haley Weld of Concord, N.H., and great-nephews Brady and Logan Cole of Boscawen, N.H.

The Graveside Committal Service for Ms. Weld will be 2 p.m. Friday, June 30, 2023, at Aspen Grove Cemetery with Reverend Tamara Wirt officiating.&nbsp;

Patricia Ann Weld

Maureen A. Schneider, 58, of Burlington, formerly of Muscatine, died Monday, June 19, 2023, at Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born Aug. 19, 1964, in Bad Cannstatt, Germany, she was the daughter of Larry Protsman and Mary Dahl Protsman Leonard.

Maureen graduated from Muscatine High School. On Aug. 12, 1993, she married Richard “Dick” Schneider in Muscatine. He died April 6, 2014.

Maureen was a homemaker. She was a motorcycle rider and she loved nature. She enjoyed drawing, listening to music, and she loved spending time with her grandkids.

Survivors include her children Jared (Jamie) Shilling and Amber Shilling both of Burlington; three grandchildren Zach, Ariyanna and Cordeilya Shilling; two sisters Mary Phillips and Kathryn Patton; four brothers David Protsman, Willard “Bill” Protsman, Mark Mulford and Brian Patton.

She was preceded in death by her husband Richard, her parents and grandmother, Ellen Dahl.

According to her wishes, cremation has been entrusted to Lunning Funeral Chapel. There will be no services at this time.

A tree has been planted in Danqwardt Park in Maureen’s honor.

David E. Hall, 59, of Burlington, died Friday, June 16, 2023, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born October 28, 1963, in Macomb, Ill., he was the son of Mason Dayne Hall and Cecilia Catherine "Cathy" Leighty Heckthorn. On Jan. 27, 1990, he married Tina Marie Ingersoll at First Christian Church in Burlington.&nbsp;

He attended Colchester High School through his sophomore year. He went on to graduate from Burlington High School in 1981. He then attended SCC, graduating with his Associate of Art and continued his education at the University of Iowa.&nbsp;

David was the Warehouse Manager for Baker's Pride and worked there through the many business changes for 32 years. He also worked for McDonald's for many years.

David loved his Iowa Hawkeyes, especially football, baseball and basketball. Beside watching any college sports, he also liked "The Big Bang Theory". He loved 80's Classic Rock and was well versed in music trivia. He could be found at his favorite restaurant, Napolis, cracking dad jokes. David loved to cook and everyone loved his cannalasgna.&nbsp;

Survivors include his wife, Tina Hall of Burlington; three children, Brianne (Detroit) Sly, Katie (Chris Rowland) Hall, and Julia Hall all of Burlington; seven grandchildren, Kassandra and Natalee Sly, Cameron Weyrick, Addy, Axel, Breann and Harper Rowland; one great grandchild, Atlas; brother, Thomas (Michelle) Hall of Burlington; sister-in-law, Robbin Todd of Burlington; mother-in-law, Hazel Unglesbee; sisters-in-law, Rose Anne Smalley, Evelyn Sue (Dom) Seminara, and Cindy McAllister; brother-in-law, George (Jane) Ingersoll and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Warren "Butch" Mattoon of Burlington, died Monday, June 12, 2023, at his home in Burlington.

Born Nov. 5, 1944, in Burlington, he was the son of Warren L. and Mildred L. Webb Mattoon. On Nov. 19, 1966, he married Sharon J. Haley in Burlington.&nbsp;

He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving from 1962 until 1965.

Butch was a member of the Cascade Boat Club, lifetime 40&amp;8, and American Legion. He worked for the City of Burlington as a city electrician, and then later worked for Burlington Northern as a high-voltage electrician. Butch was a proud owner and operator of the Shamrock Tap until 2004.

Butch loved spending most of his time with his many friends and family, as they were all important to him.

Survivors include his wife, Sharon J Mattoon; two sons, Steven (Susan) Mattoon and Douglas Alan Mattoon; three bonus daughters, Tara, Haley, and Lacey; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren:

Gary Lee Duckstein, 71, of Burlington, died Sunday, June 18, 2023.

On Aug. 24, 1974, he married Valentina Sereda at West Ave. Baptist Church in Burlington. She died on Sept. 28, 2022.He was a 1970 graduate of Burlington High School.&nbsp;Gary worked at Hobby Craft, Wareco Gas and worked in quality control at General Electric for 38 years.He was a member of G.W.R.R.A., Gold Wing Road Riders of Iowa City, formally Chapter E, since 1995. He loved spending time with his family, grandkids and great-grandkids. He enjoyed camping, fishing, woodworking, and Ronald McDonald Fundraisers in Iowa City. Gary was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan and he also loved going to the Burlington Bees games.Survivors include his daughter, Tammy Meyer of Burlington; two grandchildren, Zachary (Nicolle) Determan of Neb. and Grant (Alyssa) Jones of Burlington ; one great-grandchild, Brielle Determan; one brother, Robert A (Beverly) Duckstein of Ariz.; and two sisters, Sharon (Larry) Krieger of Mediapolis and Joella Magorian of Marion.Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and one great-granddaughter, Trisslyn Marie Jones.Visitation will be from 12 to 7 p.m. with the family to receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 23, 2023 at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.The funeral service for Mr. Duckstein will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 24, 2023, at Prugh Funeral Service with Reverend Shane A. McCampbell officiating.&nbsp; Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.&nbsp; A time of food and fellowship will be held in the community room at Prugh Funeral Service following the burial.A memorial has been established for the Ronald McDonald House in Iowa City and the family also invites everyone to bring in pop/beer tabs to donate in memory of Gary.
