Janet Rose Hockings, 87, of Burlington, died Saturday, July 2, 2022, at the Kahl Home in Davenport, Iowa.&nbsp; Born August 16, 1934, in Mediapolis, Iowa, she was the daughter of George C. and Mary D. Dunbar Alderson. She married James E. Hockings on June 25, 1955, in Burlington. He died on December 1, 2016.&nbsp;

Janet was a 1953 graduate of Mediapolis High School. She was a homemaker. She enjoyed embroidery, knitting, all kinds of puzzles (crossword, circle-a-word) and was a proud caregiver.&nbsp;

Survivors include her daughter Debbie (Gene) Lingafelter of Sherrard, Ill.; two grandchildren, Dr. Tobin (Jane) Lingafelter of Ballwin, Mo., and Nichol (Bryan) Starr of Boise, Idaho; seven great-grandchildren, Brady, Gavin, Ashby, Jonah, Boden, Annalie, and Elsahday.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband James, three brothers, Dwight Alderson, J.R. Alderson, and Vernon Alderson, and three sisters, Helen Marshall, Ruth Giffin, and Shirley Huntington.&nbsp;

The funeral service for Mrs. Hockings will be 2 p.m. Thursday, July 7 at Lunning Chapel. Interment will be in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service.&nbsp;

The family would like to give special thanks to Wapello Specialty Care and the Kahl Home for the wonderful care they gave to Janet.&nbsp;

Larry “Moose” Foster, 81, of Gladstone, Illinois, died Wednesday, June 29, 2022, at the Monmouth Care Center in Monmouth, Illinois.&nbsp;

Born December 16, 1940, in Kansas City, Missouri, he was the son of Wilbur Dell and Dorothy Mae Montgomery Foster. He married Charlotte Kay Bielser on March 16, 1963, in Biggsville, Illinois. She died on November 11, 2020.&nbsp;

Larry retired from J. I. Case after 30 years of service and then went to work for Twomey Company in Gladstone for another 15 years.&nbsp;&nbsp;

He was of the Presbyterian faith.&nbsp;Larry loved to golf and could often be found on Hend-Co Hills golf course twice a day after his “second” retirement. He was an avid reader and was one of the Henderson County Public Library’s best customers. Larry will be remembered by his family and friends as an extremely loyal and hardworking gentleman. He was smart as a whip, generous to a fault, loved animals, and cried at sad movies. 

He could be stubborn and always had an opinion to share, but he had a very soft, caring heart. He loved to debate, especially politics, always stood up for what he believed in, was a champion of the underdog, believed in equal rights for all, and was TRUE BLUE from head to toe. He was truly one of a kind. He was very proud of both of his kids and his granddaughter, but great-granddaughter Oaklee hung the moon!&nbsp;

He is survived by his daughter Stacey Foster of Burlington; granddaughter Erin Foster of New London; great-granddaughter Oaklee Foster of New London; grand dog Rocco; two sisters, Charlotte Coursey of Burlington and Mary Taylor of Banning, California; brother Richard “Pee Wee” (Diana) Foster of Oquawka, Illinois, many special nieces and nephews, and in-laws.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Charlotte, son Brian, and three sisters, Katherine, Shirley, and Loretta.&nbsp; The visitation for Larry will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 6 at Lunning Chapel. The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. There will not be a funeral service.&nbsp;

Cremation will be accorded following the visitation and has been entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.&nbsp;

Inurnment will be held at a later date in Biggsville Cemetery, Biggsville, Illinois.&nbsp;

Memorials have been established for the Henderson County Health Department and the Henderson County Public Library. &nbsp;

Charlotte “Char” Louise Manley Blodgett, 81, of Burlington, died Saturday, July 2, 2022, at the Wapello Specialty Care Center in Wapello.&nbsp;

Born October 16, 1940, in Fairfield, Iowa, she was the daughter of Dale and Margaret (Lyons) Edwards.&nbsp;

Char attended Fairfield High School. She was the former state Vice President of Iowa Jayceettes and Past President of Fort Madison Jayceettes. She organized “Boxes for Boys” for active military serving in Vietnam, was a former Welcome Wagon volunteer, and was the Iowa State Volunteer for the Family Assistance Program for the Iowa National Guard.&nbsp;

Char served as the Executive Director for the Burlington Homeless Shelter and was Director of the Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Center in Burlington for 11 years. She was active in family programs for the Iowa National Guard in Des Moines at Camp Dodge, and was instrumental in starting the Engineer Ball for the Iowa National Guard in Burlington.&nbsp;

She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Heritage Trust, a former member of the US Bank Board of Directors, Eagles Aerie #150, and Burlington Kiwanis.&nbsp;

Char loved her children and adored her grandchildren. They brought her much joy in life all the way to the end.&nbsp;

She is survived by her daughters; Patricia (Alan) Peck, Robyn (Marty) Abolt, Mickie Blodgett (Ed) Hollenbeck, Rhonda (Frank) Pieper, and Bambi (Randy) Helm; granddaughters, Samantha (Eric) Scott, Dakota Blodgett Hollenbeck and Cassidy (Cody) Minton; grandsons, Kyle Hollenbeck and T. J. Beebe and great-grandchildren, Grace Scott, Gunner Scott, Grady Scott and many close friends.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister Patricia Logan and great-granddaughter Lily Scott.&nbsp;

The funeral service for Char will be 11 a.m. Friday, July 8 at Lunning Chapel. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Friday.&nbsp;

John Floyd Hester, 80, of Burlington died Friday, July 1, 2022 at his sister’s home.&nbsp;

Born May 16, 1942 in Burlington, he was the son of John Earl and Charlotte Sodergren Hester.&nbsp;

John was a Truck Driver for Winegard Company for many years.&nbsp; John loved to travel. He was a history and movie buff. He loved his cats, Bridgit, Chloe, Tommy, Andre, and Ginger. He enjoyed landscaping and yard work.&nbsp;

Survivors include his children Robin (Roger) Nevling of Monmouth, Lisa (Dave) Patrick of Wapello, Michele (Kenny) Powell of Wapello, and John Hester of Burlington; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; one sister Carolyn Fullenkamp of Burlington.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son Mark Rice and one grandson Andrew Palmer.

&nbsp;A graveside service and inurnment for John will be 3 p.m., Thursday, July 7 at Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery. Pastor Ryan Cosgrove will officiate.&nbsp;

Per his wishes, cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.&nbsp;

John Floyd Hester

Stephen Matthew Crane, 55, of Burlington, died at 8:30 a.m. Monday, July 4, 2022, at his home surrounded by his family. It was an honor and a blessing for all of us to be with and to care for Steve in his final days.&nbsp;

Born July 7, 1966, he was the son of Frederick Crane and Gloria Ann Beardsworth.&nbsp;

Steve was a heavy equipment operator for Merschman Fertilizer. He loaded barges on the Mississippi and often enjoyed celebrating the end of the week with his co-workers.&nbsp;

An outdoorsman, Steve enjoyed fishing, shooting, hunting mushrooms, and gardening. He loved attending concerts and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye and NASCAR fan. He also enjoyed relaxing with his good friends at Hallers. Family and friends, who knew him best, loved him for his caring heart and generous spirit. He was always the first to step up and help a friend or neighbor with anything they might need.

Survivors include his mother, Gloria DeVilbiss (Dan) of Burlington; his loving girlfriend and companion, Margaret Neff of Burlington; two sisters, Portia (Dave) Bisgard of Libertyville, Ia. and Melinda (Dennis) Hendrickson of Urbandale; two brothers, Conrad Crane (Derick) of La Salette Ontario, Canada and Mike (Julie) Crane of Winterset; much loved nieces and nephews; and his beloved, faithful little dog, Tazmo, who never left his side.&nbsp;

Visitation will be from 12 to 7 p.m. with the family to receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, July 7, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.

The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection for Steve will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 8, 2022, at Divine Mercy Parish-St. Paul's Catholic Church with Rev. James Flattery as the Celebrant. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. A time of food and fellowship will be held in the Prugh~Thielen Community Room following the burial.

Stephen Matthew Crane

Judy Griffith, 73, of Milwaukee, Wis. passed away on June 24, 2022, in Milwaukee.

Born August 25, 1948, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Dorsey R. and Lola F. Unglesbee Heldt.  Judy attended school in Burlington and graduated from Burlington High School in 1966.

She married Art Drinkell they later divorced.  She married Joe Griffith in California who preceded her in death.

Survivors include daughters Dawn Gilbert of Burlington and Crystal Ayala of Wisconsin; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; three sisters, Linda Johnson of Burlington, Karen Killoren of Hamilton, Ill., and Nancy Aldrich of Washington, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe; her parents; grandparents; two sisters, Barb and Peggy; and aunts and uncles.

Per her wishes, she has been cremated and there will be no formal service at this time.  There will be a celebration of life at a later date.

Ronald Lester Rice, 70, of Mount Pleasant, passed away at Henry County Health Center on June 27, 2022.

Born February 6, 1952, in Burlington, he was the son of Lester and Mildred Harris Rice. He was a graduate of Burlington High School and the culinary school in Des Moines. On May 21, 1970, in Burlington, Ron married Peggy Combs. He managed the homeless shelter in Burlington for a time and worked at Townhouse Pizza in Burlington. Ron found enjoyment in cooking, fishing, and playing cards.

Ron is survived by his wife, Peggy of Mount Pleasant; one daughter, Veronica&nbsp; (Charles) Gonzalez of Burlington; one son, Matthew (Melody) Rice of Antioch, California; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and four siblings, Robert (Patty), David, Barbara, and Judy.

Ronald Lester Rice

Jennifer S. Howell, 48, of Burlington died Saturday, June 25, 2022 at Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born April 18, 1974, in Iowa, she was the daughter of Roberta Waddell-Howell and James Howell.&nbsp; Jennifer graduated from Burlington High School.&nbsp; Jennifer lived in Burlington from 1974 until 2015 when she moved to San Antonio Tex. She lived there until her return to Burlington in February 2022.&nbsp;She was a cashier for Walmart.&nbsp; Survivors include her mother and father, Roberta (Tim) and James (Tammy) Howell; children Tabitha Stocker, Tyler Gendron, Tobias Hines and Austin (Karyn Mehaffy) Howell- Ryan, Braiden Howell-Ryan; grandsons Gadriel, Jackson, Liam and Troy; sisters Jamie Howell and Katie (Bret) Howell Royer; grandmother Mary Waddell, and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by one brother; one grandson and one granddaughter.&nbsp;

A memorial service for Jennifer will be held at Bethany Lutheran Church at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 2. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. A luncheon will follow the service at the church.&nbsp;

Howell, 48, of Burlington died Saturday, June 25, 2022 at Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.Born April 18, 1974, in Iowa, she was the daughter of Roberta Waddell-Howell and James Howell.&nbsp; Jennifer graduated from Burlington High School.&nbsp; Jennifer lived in Burlington from 1974 until 2015 when she moved to San Antonio Tex. She lived there until her return to Burlington in February 2022.&nbsp;She was a cashier for Walmart.&nbsp; Survivors include her mother and father, Roberta (Tim) and James (Tammy) Howell; children Tabitha Stocker, Tyler Gendron, Tobias Hines and Austin (Karyn Mehaffy) Howell- Ryan, Braiden Howell-Ryan; grandsons Gadriel, Jackson, Liam and Troy; sisters Jamie Howell and Katie (Bret) Howell Royer; grandmother Mary Waddell, and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.&nbsp; She was preceded in death by one brother; one grandson and one granddaughter.&nbsp; A memorial service for Jennifer will be held at Bethany Lutheran Church at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 2. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. A luncheon will follow the service at the church.&nbsp; Per her wishes, cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.&nbsp;

Paula F. Mehaffy, 66, of Burlington, died at 11:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 28, 2022, at her home.&nbsp; Born July 3, 1955, in Centerville, Iowa, she was the daughter of Phillip Grant and Dortha Beatrice Sweeden Wood. On February 15, 2022, she married the love of her life since the 7th grade, Dennis C. Mehaffy at Oak Street Baptist Church in Burlington.&nbsp; She was a 1973 graduate of Burlington High School. She worked for Two Rivers Insurance for several years, doing clerical work for Employee Benefit Systems.&nbsp; Paula was a devoted mother and grandmother. Her grandkids were her everything, and at times you would've thought she was magical with the way she could almost be in two places at once, and never missed an event that her grandkids had going on. Paula loved celebrating the accomplishments of her family. She loved her husband and her family unconditionally. She enjoyed reading, camping, planting flowers, and being down by the river. She loved her church, and spent several years as the church secretary and treasurer. She was utterly selfless, and always put others before herself, and dedicated a lot of her time volunteering and helping at the Hospice House.&nbsp; Survivors include her husband, Dennis Mehaffy of Burlington; one daughter, Stacey (Tommy) Seibert of Middletown, Ia.; one son, Bryan (Jenny) Mehaffy of Burlington; five grandchildren, Bryanna and Caleb Mehaffy, Ethan and Emery Kerr, and Landon Seibert; one brother, Craig (Candy) Wood of Cedar Rapids, Ia.; one sister, Peggy (Mike) Barkhaus of Fort Dodge, Ia.; and several nieces and nephews.&nbsp; She is preceded in death by her parents and her one brother Steve Wood.&nbsp; The funeral service for Mrs. Mehaffy will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 1 at Lunning Chapel. Jerry Siverly, 90, of Burlington, died at 3:52 p.m. Sunday, June 26, 2022, at his home.

Born May 27, 1932, in Iowa, he was the son of Francis T. and Viola R. Hunger Siverly. On July 22, 1951, he married Doris Nelson in Burlington. They have celebrated 71 wonderful years with each other.

Jerry worked for Montgomery Ward in retail for 21 years, IAAAP, West Hill Mobile Station for 17 years, Burlington School District as a bus driver for 11 years and a YMCA Bus driver for 7 years. He was great with kids and always enjoyed their company on the bus rides.

He was a 1952 graduate of Burlington High School.

Jerry liked cars, motorcycles, RV camping, yard work, group suppers and gatherings and attending 1952 school reunion meetings. He was always entertaining, and always had a joke to make people laugh. Most of all, he loved spending time with his grandchildren, family and friends.

Survivors include wife, Doris Siverly; one daughter, Yvonne (T. Scott) Minton; four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, seven nephews, and four nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Thomas Siverly; one brother, and three sisters.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory. The memorial service for Mr. Siverly will be 2 p.m. Friday, July 1 at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for the American Cancer Association.

Kay J. Criner, 85, of Burlington, died Thursday, June 23, 2022, at MercyOne Hospice Care in Johnston. Born February 13, 1937, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Harvey and Virginia Hugg Criner.&nbsp;&nbsp;Kay graduated from Burlington High School and went on to attend college at Parsons in Fairfield and the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley.&nbsp; After college, she moved to Sarasota, Florida and was employed by Riverview High School where she directed the Highland Dancers for many years and was proud of their accomplishments and performances. Under her direction they performed at the Rose Bowl parade and traveled to Scotland and Europe. In her free time, she enjoyed golf, tennis, and dancing.&nbsp; Upon her retirement she returned to her hometown of Burlington. Survivors include her brother, Richard "Dick" Criner (Evelyn) of Des Moines; four nieces and nephews, Terri (Dale) Bunting, Linda Ream, Kay Knott, and Tim Criner; eight great-nieces and nephews and five great-great-nieces and nephews.&nbsp;She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Judy Knott, and friend, Sally Box.&nbsp;Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory. Kay will be inurned in Ash Gardens Columbarium in Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington.&nbsp;

On July 26, 1948, he married Gladys Murphy in Monmouth. Together they raised two children. He later married his high school sweetheart, Pauline E. Siens in California. Jimmy joined the U.S. Air Force when he was 18 years old. He was deployed to Vietnam and served for over two years before returning to California. He continued his service with the Air Force and retired at the rank of Master Sergeant after 20 years of service.&nbsp; He was a member of the Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed deer hunting, traveling, and working outdoors, especially cutting wood, because he loved the sound of a chainsaw. Jimmy's family was the most important thing to him, especially doting on his beloved wife. Jimmy leaves behind his beloved family; his wife, Pauline E. Myers of Burlington; son, Danny (Deb) Myers, Jr.; daughter, Robin Bowman; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; several step-children, step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Evelyn Link of Oquawka, Mary Lou (Delbert) Dillon of Jacksonville, Ark., and Jeannie (Bill) Leonard of Biggsville; as well as, several nieces and nephews.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, and four brothers, Ora, Roy, Allen Lee, and Donald. Troy Jay Jackson, 50 of Danville, died June 25, 2022, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington. Troy was born August 28, 1971, in Grundy Center.&nbsp; He was the son of Richard and Deloris Jackson.&nbsp;Troy graduated from Danville High School in 1990.&nbsp; He married Wendy Doyle and they had three beautiful children together: Baylee, Macy, and Wyatt.&nbsp; Troy and Wendy later divorced, and he married Christy Drummer.&nbsp; In his earlier years, you would find him working at the Wal-Mart Distribution Center. He then obtained his CDL and drove a truck for Black Horse until he had to give that up due to fighting lung cancer.&nbsp; Troy loved life to the fullest. He had many hobbies and he loved them all. In the winters you would find him snowmobiling. In the summers he would spend his days on the river and nights at the racetrack. Most of all, Troy loved his family dearly. He cherished all the time he spent with them. It didn’t matter what they did together as long as it was together. When Troy was diagnosed with lung cancer three years ago, he wasn’t scared. He was determined to beat it. He was so courageous through it all. Troy had so many supporters throughout his battle. His family supported him through it all. His four-legged companion, Mylee was by his side the whole time. His wife Christy was there for every single moment, the good times and the bad. Troy was one heck of a fighter. He fought until his last breath.&nbsp;Troy you will be missed, always and forever. James worked in transportation for CB&amp;Q RR Freight Agent, he was a Traffic Manager for United Facilities, Junior Traffic Manager for Grain Processing in Muscatine, and Gail Products in Galesburg. Survivors include his friends, Caleb &nbsp;Larson of Mediapolis, and their children, Walker and Kase Larson. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Barbara.&nbsp;Visitation will be July 5 from 12 to 7 p.m. with the Larson family to receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home. There will be a private funeral service for Mr. Barr at a later date. Casady, 97, of Burlington died Thursday, June 23, 2022 at his home.&nbsp; Born September 23, 1924 in Cantril, IA, he was the son of Beryl B. and Florence Christine (Thieme) Casady.&nbsp; Harold served in the United States Navy during World War II. On March 3, 1950 he married Dorothy A. Stodgell of Yarmouth, Iowa.&nbsp; Harold was an electrician for the CB &amp; Q and Burlington Northern railroads in Burlington for 18 years. He then worked for the Burlington Community School District for 20 years, retiring in 1987.&nbsp; Harold was a past member of the Eagles Club, RES, RSES, American Legion, Skiowans ski club, and he taught a couple of college courses at Southeastern Community College.&nbsp; Survivors include his wife of 72 years, Dorothy of Burlington, children David (Ann) Casady of Harriman, Ten., Carolyn (Mark) Prevo of O’Fallon, Mo., Gena (David) Leone of Blue Ridge, Ga.; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; brother Bruce Casady of Burlington; several nieces and nephews; extended family Danny (Karen) Wick and family; Lois Akey and family and the Su family.&nbsp; Harold was preceded in death by his parents, twin brothers Carol and Carl.&nbsp; Per his wishes, cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Funeral Chapel.&nbsp; There will be no formal services for Mr. Casady at this time. He then worked for the Burlington Community School District for 20 years, retiring in 1987.&nbsp; Harold was a past member of the Eagles Club, RES, RSES, American Legion, Skiowans ski club, and he taught a couple of college courses at Southeastern Community College.&nbsp; Survivors include his wife of 72 years, Dorothy of Burlington, children David (Ann) Casady of Harriman, Ten., Carolyn (Mark) Prevo of O’Fallon, Mo., Gena (David) Leone of Blue Ridge, Ga.; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; brother Bruce Casady of Burlington; several nieces and nephews; extended family Danny (Karen) Wick and family; Lois Akey and family and the Su family.&nbsp; Harold was preceded in death by his parents, twin brothers Carol and Carl.&nbsp; Per his wishes, cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Funeral Chapel.&nbsp; There will be no formal services for Mr. Casady at this time. Douglas Lynn DeVilbiss, age 51, passed away on June 8, 2022, at UW Hospital in Madison, WI.

He was born on July 26, 1970, in Burlington, IA to parents Daniel J. and Nancy J. (Elgin) DeVilbiss. Douglas moved to the Madison area with his mom at the age of twelve. He graduated from Middleton High School in 1988 and went on to receive an associate degree in police science and an associate degree in accounting. Douglas married Kristine M. Larson on May 13, 1995, at Christ Lutheran Church in DeForest, WI. He worked in purchasing for Madison Property Management. Outside of work, he enjoyed

bowling, playing video games, playing cards, and most recently he loved to sit on the deck and watch birds and enjoy nature. He was an energetic person who liked to keep busy and was always willing to help others. Douglas is survived by his wife Kristine DeVilbiss; children Samantha and Matthew DeVilbiss; father, Daniel (Gloria) DeVilbiss, brother, Danny DeVilbiss; and step-father James DeForest. He was preceded in death by his mother Nancy (Elgin) DeForest.

Douglas DeVilbiss

Michaela "Mickey" Joan Daly, 81, of Burlington, died at 11:18 a.m. Wednesday, June 22, 2022, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born January 19, 1941, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Milburn Edward and Clara B. Hageman Lietsch. On July 12, 1958, she married Michael Joseph Daly in Burlington. He died August 8, 1987.

She was a Notre Dame High School graduate.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Mickey was a homemaker and loved taking care of her family. After they were grown she started working for the Burlington School System, where she worked for 20 years.&nbsp;

She was a member of Divine Mercy Parish. Mickey enjoyed family gatherings, reading, cooking, and chocolate. She liked going on Facebook and was described as being a people person. The most important thing to Mickey was her family and spending time with them.

Survivors include three sons, Michael "Joey"&nbsp; (Debby) Daly, of Burlington, Josh Daly of Burlington, and Ben (Beth) Daly of Downers Grove, Ill.; four daughters, Nan&nbsp;Ashby of West Burlington, Heather (Chuck) Madsen of Lakeville, Minn., Nena (Jeremy Curry) DeBard of Burlington, and Noelle (Todd) Hocking of Lake Mary, Fla.; 19 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Rosemary Harris of West Burlington, and Sheila (Wayne) Drew of Burlington; one brother, Thomas (Barbara) Lietsch of Burlington, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents, one son, Jason Daly, one brother, Milburn "Sonny" Lietsch, Jr., eleven sisters, Celine "Sally" Grothe, Therese Francine McLaughlin, Suzanne Carlson, Nancy Inghram, Rita Heckenberg, Sanchia Gahn, Mary Lucia Lietsch, Gloria (Sr. Mary Lucia, RSM) Lietsch, Patricia Darnold., Mary Rincon, and Judith Heap.&nbsp;

She married Eugene Schmidt on January 1, 1949 in Morning Sun, Iowa. He died March 30, 2008.&nbsp; Eupha was a 1948 graduate of Morning Sun High School.&nbsp;&nbsp; Eupha and her husband began their married life as farmers in Yarmouth, moving to Wapello in 1951. They also farmed in Winfield and Crawfordsville before her husband went into the ministry.&nbsp; Their first church was in Otranto, then in Douds and then Walker, all in Iowa. As a minister’s wife she taught Sunday School and worked with Awana.&nbsp; After moving to Burlington, Eupha worked at the Burlington Care Center and then got much satisfaction from volunteering near 3000 hours at the Klein Center when it was on Madison Avenue.&nbsp; She always worked hard and made a great life with very little. Eupha played an important part in the lives of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, that came to visit her, teaching them to ride bikes, taking them to swimming lessons and playing games with them.&nbsp; Survivors include her three children; Laverne (Betsy) Schmidt of Waxahachie, Texas, Dale (Nancy) Schmidt of Burlington, Iowa and Naomi (Lance) Landes of Indianapolis, Ind.; grandchildren, Amber (Heath) Waldeier, Ashley (David) Flach, Troy Schmidt, Stephanie (Trent) Smith, Krista (Luke) Mielke and Starla Landis; 13 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother, step-father, a daughter, a grandson, and a brother.&nbsp; The funeral service for Mrs. Schmidt will be Thursday, June 23 at 10 a.m. at the Morning Sun Community Center with Reverend Dean Graber officiating. Wanda M. Buchanan, 94, of Burlington, died Monday, June 13, 2022, at the OakView Nursing Home and Rehabilitation in Burlington.

Born November 6, 1927, in Osceola, IA, she was the daughter of Claude F. and Ethel B. Ashby Clark. On October 18, 1947, she married Carl W. Buchanan in Burlington. He died on September 17, 1992.

She was a 1945 graduate of Burlington High School.&nbsp;

Wanda started work as a clerk at Neissner's, then went to work for Burlington Instrument Co and also tested tubes at Sylvania. Later, she worked as a secretary for Trinity Lutheran Church for 20 years, retiring in 1982.&nbsp;

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Wanda was also a member of the Mr. &amp; Mrs. Club, the Ruth Zartman Circle and NARFE (National Alliance of Retired Federal Employees). She enjoyed dancing and playing Bridge, which she played in several Bridge Clubs for over 60 yrs.&nbsp;

Survivors include her son, Randy A. (Muriel) Buchanan of Estes Park, Co.; 2 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; and her caretaker and friend, Cheryl (Dale) Vickstrom of Burlington.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Juanita Connell.

The Graveside Committal Service for Mrs. Buchanan will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 28, 2022, at Aspen Grove Cemetery with Reverend Ryan Cosgrove officiating.

A memorial has been established for the Des Moines County Humane Society.

Larry Dwayne Talbott, 70, of Burlington, passed away on Sunday, June 19, 2022, after suffering many years from chronic medical conditions.

Born July 18, 1951, in Burlington, IA, he was the son of Lawrence Earl and Shirley Ann Westgate Talbott.

He graduated&nbsp;from Burlington Community High School. He obtained training in auto body painting and repair and this became his hobby for a number of years.

Larry enjoyed spending time with his friends and family.

Survivors include two daughters: Ashley Talbott of Burlington, and Addison (Ethan) Neathery of Orlando, Fla.; his mother, Shirley Talbott of Burlington; two brothers, Steve Talbott Burlington and Gary Talbott of Oquawka, and several nieces and nephews.

Tom Turner, 80, of Burlington, died Tuesday, June 14, 2022, at his home.

Born April 4, 1942, on the family farm in southern Illinois, he was the son of Beaumont and Beatrice (Giddis) Turner. He spent 47 wonderful years with his wife, Reva Berrong.&nbsp;

Tom was a diesel mechanic and worked for a truck stop in Marion, Illinois.&nbsp;

He loved watching old westerns, listening to music, fishing and trap shooting. Tom loved his life and especially loved spending time with his family.&nbsp;

Survivors include his wife, Reva Turner; three nephews, Jimmy, Ronnie, and Hal; one niece, Shirley; several great nieces and nephews; two sisters-in-law, Phyllis Turner St. Louis, Mo. and Renna Hawkinson of Burlington; and brother-in-law, Dale (Jan) Berrong of Wever, Ia.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Hal, Ed, and Richard Turner and one niece, Kimberly Turner.&nbsp;

Visitation will be from 3 p.m. until 5 &nbsp;p.m Friday, June 17, 2022 at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home. A short prayer service will conclude the visitation at 5 p.m. officiated by Pastor JudyAnn Morse. Inurnment will be in Berrong Cemetery in Gipsy, Mo. at a later date.

He attended school through 11th grade and then earned his GED before joining Job Corp.&nbsp; On November 5, 2011 he married Jamie Brown in Burlington Iowa.&nbsp; James was a handyman. He loved scrapping, fishing, the color “camo” and he worked on computers.&nbsp; Survivors include his wife Jamie, his two children with other family, step-father Ray Ostermeyer Sr of Oskaloosa, IA and step-brother Ray Ostermeyer Jr of Ottumwa, IA.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.&nbsp; There will be no service at this time. Judd, 73, of Burlington, died Saturday, June 18, 2022, at his home surrounded by family and friends.&nbsp; Born March 6, 1949, in Iowa, he was the son of Earnest and Virginia (Hester) Judd.&nbsp; He previously worked for the Iowa Ammunition Plant and Yellow Cab.&nbsp; Walter loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and family. He also liked going to the casino with his son Dusty and listening to his records and CD’s going on road trips with his family.&nbsp; He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan, loved fishing, and sitting outside with family and friends. He would help anyone that needed help.&nbsp; Walter is survived by his two sons; Dusty (Anne) Judd and Andy (Becky) Judd; grandchildren Brianna (Lucky), Jesse, Austin, Jakob, Abbie, Carissa, Cody (Valerie), Tony, Jaime, David, Zach, Malibu and Josh; great grandchildren; Alli, Addi, Haley, Cathy, Izzy, Jayce, Jaichen, Ziva, Lucas, Christian, Brave, Josh, Miguel, Karter, Delanee, Alexis, Aryia and many nieces and nephews.&nbsp; He is preceded in death by his wife Vickie, daughter Sammi and his siblings.&nbsp; A celebration of life will be held on June 25th from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Walter’s residence in Burlington. The family asks that you bring a covered dish and any memories you have.&nbsp;

Judd, 73, of Burlington, died Saturday, June 18, 2022, at his home surrounded by family and friends.&nbsp; Born March 6, 1949, in Iowa, he was the son of Earnest and Virginia (Hester) Judd.&nbsp; He previously worked for the Iowa Ammunition Plant and Yellow Cab.&nbsp; Walter loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and family. He also liked going to the casino with his son Dusty and listening to his records and CD’s going on road trips with his family.&nbsp; He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan, loved fishing, and sitting outside with family and friends. Joann E. Marshall, 86, of West Burlington, died Saturday, June 18, 2022, at Danville Care Center.&nbsp; Born June 10, 1936, in Chicago, Illinois, she was the daughter of Lewis and Mary Ethel (Baggs) Schlag.&nbsp;&nbsp; She was a 1955 graduate of Burlington High School and attended the Cook County, Illinois Nursing School from 1956-1959.&nbsp; She married Marvin Leroy Marshall on November 27, 1964 in Burlington. He died August 12, 2017.&nbsp; Joann worked as a Registered Nurse for Burlington Medical Center for over 35 years until her retirement in 1997. She continued with her nursing career from 1997-2012 helping out at various facilities.&nbsp; She was of the Methodist faith.&nbsp; Joann was an avid quilter and loved to sew. She made several bridal dresses and redid upholstery. She was a self-taught “handy-woman” and was never afraid to tackle any challenge. She started and completed many building projects on her own. Joann was a selfless person, very caring and giving and would not think twice about going without something to make sure someone else had what they needed. She loved reading a good romance novel and in her later years, came to appreciate researching the internet.&nbsp; Survivors include her four children; Tim (Carol) Marshall of West Burlington, Eric Marshall and Brenda Dickey both of Burlington and Steve (Rockzann) Marshall of Danville; two step-sons Mark (Sandy) Marshall of Des Moines and Mike (Debbie) Marshall of Stockton, Missouri; 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.&nbsp; She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Robert Marshall, daughter Jennifer Diewold and brother Fred Schlag.&nbsp; The graveside funeral service and interment for Joann will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, June 23rd at Greenwood Cemetery, West Burlington. Pastor Dean Graber will officiate. A celebration of life will follow at the Burlington Gym.&nbsp; A memorial has been established for St. Jude Children's Hospital.&nbsp;

Glenna Mehaffy, 91, of Burlington, died Friday, June 17, 2022, at her daughters’ home.&nbsp; Born June 10, 1931, in Burlington, Iowa, she was the daughter of Fred E. and Nellie F. (Purcell) Rowe. She married Lewis Mehaffy on June 24, 1950, in Burlington. He died May 14, 2008.&nbsp; Glenna was an inspector for Champion Spark Plug for over 15 years. She was a member of the UAW Retirees and served as secretary for 13 years. She was an active Democrat and worked for the Gephardt the Democratic nomination for President in 1988 and 2004.&nbsp; Glenna was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved drawing, painting, making cards, writing letters, bird watching and feeding birds, music, gardening, canning, reading books. She loved tending to her flower garden, kayaking, traveling, history, cooking, baking and her dog’s LaKoda and Pepper.&nbsp; She was known for her hospitality, HUGS, and her famous apple pies, among other desserts. She loved all holidays and decorations. To the fullest.&nbsp; Glenna was a friend to ALL she met and was remembered saying “PEACE”, while holding up “peace” signs. Most recently she would say in a loud voice I AM WOMAN! HEAR ME ROAR! with her fist in the air.&nbsp; Survivors include her four children; Debbie (Ben) Buechel of New London, Dennis (Paula) Mehaffy of Burlington, Diane (Dan) Buechel of Danville and Kathleen (Duane) Smith of Sperry; nine grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; two sisters Rosemary (Henry) Luchner of Enterprise, Alabama and Sharon Green of Sandy, Utah.&nbsp; She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one son Garry Mehaffy.&nbsp; There will be no formal funeral service for Mrs. Mehaffy. According to her wishes, cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel. Inurnment will be held at a later date in Long Creek Cemetery, rural Danville.
