Robert “Bob” Mozingo, 84 of Burlington, died May 14, 2023, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf.

Born Nov. 30, 1938, in Maryville, Mo., he was the son of William Earl and Thelma Henry Mozingo.

He graduated from Maryville High School in Missouri in 1956 and earned his BA in engineering at Finlay Engineering College.

Bob was in the United States Marine Reserves for eight years.

On July 21, 1962, he married Brenda Carrington in Maryville, Mo. He attended Harmony Bible Church in Burlington.

Bob was a Master Design Engineer at J.I. Case where he worked for 35 years.

Bob had a strong faith in Jesus! He loved working and spending time with family going on the yearly vacation to the Dells or Branson. He enjoyed working with young people at church, his prison ministry and visiting with his coffee group.

Survivors include his wife, Brenda of Burlington; one daughter Tanya (JD) Henman of Burlington; two sons Nathan (Michelle) Mozingo of Columbia, Mo. and Jonathan (Angela) Mozingo of Moline, Ill.; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers Bill (Patty) Mozingo of Maryville, Mo. and Jerry (Dixie) Mozingo of Bloomfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Gary.

The funeral service for Bob will be 11 a.m. Friday, May 19 at Lunning Chapel with Pastor Nathan Williams officiating.&nbsp;Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Friday from 9 a.m. until the time of service.

Memorials have been established for Samaritan Purse and City Hope.

He worked at the American Ordnance Plant for 15 years, Montgomery Ward for ten years, J.I Case, and Interiors Inc.&nbsp;He enjoyed auctions, dancing, singing and telling stories. He also loved camping, collecting elephants, and Volkswagen&nbsp;Bugs. Robert enjoyed being an elder, Sunday school teacher and song leader in the early days of West Burlington Christian Church.&nbsp;

He is survived by his children: Teresa "Teri" Farris-Critten, of West Burlington; Toni Kirk, of&nbsp;Kansas City, Mo., and Robert "Todd" Farris, of Burlington; seven grandchildren: Shawna, Scott, Shelby, Danielle, Ashley, Jeffrey, and Abigail; seven great-grandchildren: Jillian, Ariana, Aeric, Alexander, Jace, Conor and Brennan. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, infant son Jeffrey C., infant daughter Joni L. Farris, and three siblings, Kenneth, Kathryn and Margaret.&nbsp;

Friends and family are invited to a celebration of life to be held on Sunday, May 14, 2023, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Fort Madison Christian Church,&nbsp;1029 48th St. Fort Madison.&nbsp;Burial will take place at a later time at the Glade City Cemetery, Blandinsville, Ill. Steven Donohoe, 68, of Burlington, died Friday, May 12, 2023, at home.

Born January 2, 1955, in Lawrence, Mass., he was the son of James Francis and Dorothy Anita Gayron Donohoe.&nbsp;

Survivors include his sister, Debra (Shawn) Ste Marie of Burlington; brother, Jamie (Melinda) Donohoe of Canton, lll.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Gary, Patrick and Brian Donohoe.

Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.

Junior Emery, 58, of West Burlington, died Saturday, May 13, 2023, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born Dec, 10, 1964, in Rock Island, Ill., he was the son of Cecil and Genevieve Parsano Emery.

Junior was a day manager for Motel 6. He enjoyed playing cards, watching any sport on TV and he loved animals.

Survivors include two sisters, Barb (Bob) Stalling of West Burlington and Mildred (Jack) Palm of Wever; many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Junior Emery

Edward A. Mohnike, 79, of Burlington, died Thursday, May 11, 2023, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington surrounded by his family.

Born May 18, 1943, in Burlington, he was the son of Arthur Edward and Cleola Hall Mohnike. On May 1, 1999, he married Pennie Jo Hardinger in New London.

Ed worked at Exide Company for 30 years until his retirement.

He loved to go fishing, camping, and loved fixing things. Ed was a member of The New London Country Club. He dearly loved to spend time with his family.

Survivors include his wife; son, Eddie Wasson of Burlington; step-son, Gene Polhans of Savanna, Ill.; two step-daughters, Kim Polhans of Monmouth, Ill. and Karla Andies of Burlington; 24 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; brother Ben (Val) Mohnike of Roseville, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; one daughter; one step-son; one brother; and two sisters.&nbsp;

The memorial service for Mr. Mohnike will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at Parkside First Baptist Church with Pastor Bill Price officiating. A time of food and fellowship will be held at Parkside First Baptist Church&nbsp; following the service.

Edward A. Mohnike

Aletha Christina Carter, 99 of Des Moines, formerly of Burlington, died at Unity Point Health-Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines on Thursday, May 11, 2023.

Born July 28, 1923 in Burlington she was the daughter of John and Amelia Wirt Burgus. Aletha was a previous member of Bethany Lutheran Church. She married Allie Carter on May 14, 1954 in Burlington. He died September 27, 1985.

Aletha was an operator supervisor for Northwestern Bell where she worked for 15 years. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers.

Survivors include two daughters Sharon Carter of Boone and Carol Carter of Des Moines; one son Thomas Carter of Burlington; three grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

The graveside service for Aletha will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 16 at Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery.

Donald W. Mathews, 73, of rural Danville, died May 4, 2023, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Health Center Hospice house. &nbsp; Born June 19, 1949, Donald was the son of Ralph E. and Vera I. Stevenson Mathews. Don was a graduate of Danville High School class of 1967.&nbsp;&nbsp;He also attended Burlington&nbsp;Junior College and Iowa State University.&nbsp;&nbsp;Don held those school relationships in very high regard throughout his life.&nbsp;

From a young age Donald was deeply rooted in the Danville community.&nbsp; He helped on his parents’ farm&nbsp;and eventually took over management when his father passed.&nbsp; Recently the farm has been transferred to its fifth generation.&nbsp;&nbsp; Don was a founding member&nbsp;of the Des Moines County Corn Growers and the Danville Jaycees.&nbsp;&nbsp;Along the way he has been a member on the boards of the Des Moines County Pork&nbsp;Producers, the Des Moines County Farm Bureau, the Danville Mutual Telephone Company and Jaggar Cemetery.&nbsp;&nbsp; Don started No-till farming in&nbsp;1979 and spent the rest of his life promoting the benefits of progressive farming.&nbsp;&nbsp;Conservation and providing for the next generation were always his top priority.&nbsp; Don started at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant during the farm crisis and ended up staying for 25 years. Hobbies largely took over after Don retired.&nbsp; He was a member of both 3 Rivers and Big Creek tractor clubs.&nbsp; He participated with numerous tractorcades&nbsp;and rides of all sizes across Eastern Iowa.&nbsp; Don was an avid presenter at Midwest Old Threshers, cherishing his participation in the parades and&nbsp;daily&nbsp;cavalcade of power.&nbsp; He was very much anticipating the 2023 reunion as Allis Chalmers is the featured tractor.&nbsp;&nbsp; Don was a near constant presence&nbsp;at Danville High School events and was especially devoted to boys and girls basketball.&nbsp; He took great pleasure in sharing his knowledge with the FFA chapter at school and had been a 4-H member himself.&nbsp;&nbsp;Most importantly Don delighted in the connections and friends he made everywhere he went.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Above all, Don loved his family.&nbsp; Don and Cindy were married in August of 1982 and together they raised Cora (Steve) Beltramea of Fairfield,Jessica (Justin) Boecker of Danville, and David (Alaina) Mathews of Danville.&nbsp; Don and Cindy have four grandchildren.&nbsp; Don always had his camera in hand, which has yielded a stockpile of memories to be shared for generations to come.&nbsp; He could fix just about anything, was a constant support and had patience as wide as the day is long. Diana Lynn "Nannies" Smith, 68, of Fort Madison, died Thursday, May 11, 2023, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington surrounded by her family.

Born Dec. 29, 1954, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Lawrence Raymond and Patricia Ann Pitzer Rice. On May 26, 1978, she married Randall Dean Smith in Burlington. He died Jan. 9, 2023.

Diana was a teaching associate for James Madison Middle School and Edward Stone Middle School. She worked at Head Start prior to that.

Diana loved playing cards with her family and spending time with family, especially with her grandchildren, and she loved to go camping at the cabin. She also enjoyed sister night with her sisters and traveling with them to Ohio and Texas whenever she could.

Survivors include her two daughters, Stephanie (Mathew) Kinneer of Burlington and Shayna (Jesse) Smith of Fort Madison; seven grandchildren, Malena (Tobin), and Claytin Kinneer, Randall, Laila, Harper, and Amelio Smith; three brothers, Mike Rice of Danville, Kevin Rice of West Burlington, and Darrin (Mindy) Rice of West Burlington; five sisters, Laura (David) Smith of Bedford, Tex.,&nbsp; Connie Rice of Burlington, LeAnna (Gary) Wagler of Burlington, Rhonda (Alan) Murphy of Burlington, and Stacy (William) Sturdivant of Burlington; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband of 44 years, she was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Darryl and Larry Rice.

Coleen Kay Klevjer, 84, of West Burlington, died Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at her home surrounded by family.

Born April 25, 1939, in Oelwein, she was the daughter of Wren and Nettie Adrian Vargason. On Aug. 9, 1956, she married Merle Walters. She later married Harry Klevjer on Oct. 18, 1997. He preceded her in death on March 1, 2004.

She enjoyed collecting books, bird-watching, puzzles, and listening to music. She especially loved spending time with her family and being a Nana.

Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Ida M. Walters of West Burlington; grandchildren, Kimberly (Kip) Walters-Saben of West Burlington, Daniel (Kellie) Walters of West Burlington, Kayla Richardson, and Jacob Richardson; great-grandchildren, Jabari, Jayden, Jo'dyiah and Adrian; sister-in-law, Aggie Varagason; grand fur-babies, Lego, Sig, Max, Gizmo, Dio, and Eddie; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, parents, brothers, LaVern (Kate) and Marion Vargason, son, Robert Walters, daughter, Jody Richardson, and grandson, Matthew Richardson.

Joseph E. “Ed” Power Jr., 84, of Des Moines died at home Friday, Feb. 24, 2023.&nbsp;

Ed was born on Dec. 2, 1938, to Margaret Birkett and Joseph E. Power in Peoria, Ill. His family moved to Burlington in 1950, where Ed graduated from Burlington High School in 1956. After receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Iowa, he served in the U.S. Army, later joining the U.S. Naval Reserve JAG Corp. He retired with the rank of commander.&nbsp;

Ed married Camille June Repass in 1964 after graduating from the University of Iowa Law School with a Juris Doctorate degree. He served as a law clerk for Federal Judge Roy Stephenson and then was a partner in the Bradshaw, Fowler, Proctor &amp; Fairgrave Law Firm in Des Moines for 44 years.

Ed treasured family, friends, and client relationships. He enjoyed leadership roles in the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation, Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines, Plymouth Congregational Church Board of Trustees, Girl Scouts of Central Iowa, American College of Trust &amp; Estate Council, AIB, and University of Iowa College of Law Foundation. He was proud of his 30-year-perfect attendance record at the Des Moines Rotary Club. Ed relished his free time fly fishing in northeast Iowa, civil war history and events, travel, golf, and wintering in Green Valley, Ariz.

Ed leaves behind his wife of 58 years, Camille “Cammy”, and three sons, Joseph Power of West Des Moines, David Power of Seattle, Wash., and James Power of Appleton, Wis., one granddaughter, Camilla Power of Seattle, Wash., in-laws, Dick and Judy Smith of Fairfield and Diane Repass of Dubuque, and many cherished nieces and nephews. Ed was predeceased by his parents and brother-in-law Dale Repass.

James A. Geng, 83, of Largo, Fla., formerly West Burlington, died Saturday, May 6, 2023, at Accent Care IHC Oak Manor in Largo, Fla. Born Aug. &nbsp;15, 1939, in Burlington, he was the son of Reuben Francis and Margaret Winters Geng. On Nov. 29, 1969, he married Sarah C. Kirkpatrick in Lomax, Ill. He graduated in 1957 from Burlington High School and joined the U.S. National Guard Reserves. James worked 22 years at J.I. Case Company, retiring in 1992. He enjoyed playing cards, especially Cribbage and Bridge. He loved riding his motorcycle up until the start of this year. Survivors include wife of 53 years, Sarah C. Geng of Largo, Fla.; daughter, Kathy (Mark) Messer of New London, two sons, Mark Kirkpatrick of Burlington and John (Amy) Geng of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Barry, sister-in-law Sue and a daughter-in-law, Teresa. Cremation has been accorded and burial will be held in Sacred Heart Cemetery at a later date. James A. Geng

Mary P. Marshall, 88, of Burlington, died Saturday, May 5, 2023, at her daughter’s home.

Born June 6, 1934, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Carl and Ruby Sutcliffe Schultz. She married Donald Marshall on Aug. 18, 1951. He died in 2008.

Mary was a waitress at the former Holiday Inn hotel in Burlington for over 30 years until her retirement in 1999.

She was of the Catholic faith. She was a HUGE Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed playing cards and bingo. She was a social butterfly.

She is survived by her two children; John Marshall and Cindy Loyd, both of Burlington; her son Kevin’s longtime companion Shelly Wendt of Nebraska; seven grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Kevin Marshall, grandson Louis Loyd, daughter-in-law Sherry Metzger, son-in-law Louis “Louie” Loyd, four brothers and one sister.

The memorial funeral service for Mary will be 10 a.m. Friday, May 8 at Lunning Chapel. Pastor Dean Graber will officiate. The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until the time of services. A time of food and fellowship will be held following the memorial service at the Burlington Gym.

According to her wishes, cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.

Mary Dean, 92, of Mediapolis, died Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at Bickford&nbsp;of Burlington. &nbsp;

Mary Helen Dean was born on Dec. 20, 1930, the daughter of Ruth Marie Tieman. &nbsp;On Oct. 13, 1948, Mary was united in marriage to Robert N. Dean.&nbsp; Mary was a school&nbsp;bus&nbsp;driver for Mediapolis Community School District for 20+&nbsp;years.&nbsp; She was a member of the Centenary Methodist Church in Morning Sun, Eastern Star Chapter of Mediapolis and was the Worthy Matron along with the other positions of the chapter.&nbsp; &nbsp;Mary was an avid card player, loved bowling on the Wednesday morning league in Burlington, and loved to fish.&nbsp; Every pond or lake she saw, she would&nbsp;always comment “that looks like a good place to fish.”&nbsp;

Grandma/Great Gram always loved watching her grandkids and great grandkids in their sports or whatever else they were involved in. &nbsp;&nbsp;She was everybody’s biggest fan.&nbsp; Mom was the best hugger.&nbsp; She was always giving hugs when needed and even just because she liked to.&nbsp; Everyone always felt better after receiving a hug from her.

Mary will be deeply missed by her children, Edie Whitaker (Randy) of Hickory, Ky., Sonny Dean (Ellen) of Morning Sun, David Dean (Debby) of Marshall, Texas, Babe Dean (Mark Knippling) of Hazel, S.D., and Debbie Swan (Terry) of Libertyville, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren and the 3rd&nbsp;on the way; special cousin-sister, Sharon Weyrick Fangman of Burlington and of course, her special furry friend Benji, who stayed by her side constantly.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; mother, Ruth; several aunts and uncles; special parents, Charles and Ruth (Mommy) Bowman and special brother, John Bowman.&nbsp;

Special thanks to the whole staff at Bickford of Burlington who adopted mom these last few years and treated her with love, respect and kindness. She would always refer to them as “my special kids.”

Mary Dean

Shirley LaRue Bailey died May 4, 2023. She was born to Corliss and Nettie Elliott Williams on Feb. 11,1925, in Danville. 

After graduating from Danville High School in 1942, she worked for the Danville Telephone Company, then worked in Washington D. C. for the FBI.&nbsp;

On May 9, 1944, she married Leslie “Tim” Bailey at the Laurinburg-Maxton Air Base, N.C., where he was in WW II training in the Glider Pilot program. Two months later, Tim was deployed to India and Burma for two years. During that time, she worked for the Iowa Ordinance Plant in Middletown.&nbsp;

Shirley was a wonderful and loving mother of five children, living in Danville then New London. She enjoyed attending WWII Glider Pilot reunions with Tim. She was a member of Harmony Bible Church for many years, then a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Mount Pleasant.&nbsp; Her gift was hospitality and she loved studying the Bible along with her husband, who taught many classes. Her faith in Jesus Christ, a listening ear, and her wonderful sense of humor were an encouragement and inspiration to many. &nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; siblings, Lt. Russell Williams, Rev. Wendell Williams and Naomi Johnson; son Randel Bailey; and great-granddaughter, Grace Rinn. Family remaining include sons Kevin (Gail) Bailey of New London and Ridge (Ghada) Bailey of Melbourne, Fla.; daughters Susan (Tim) Rinn of Denton, Texas, and Dinah Bailey at Sunrise Terrace in Winfield; eleven&nbsp;grandchildren; Ben (Holly) Bailey, Christine (Jeff) Kline, John Bailey; Brad Bailey, Matthew (Kelly) Bailey; Zachary Bailey, Lauren (James) Hansing, Norean (Charles) Gardner; David (Bethany) Rinn, Jonathan (Kristy) Rinn, and Michael (Megan) Rinn; and twenty-two great grandchildren.&nbsp;

Shirley trusted in Jesus Christ as her Savior at the age of 27 and is now enjoying the reality of her faith in heaven.&nbsp; She is now more alive than she has ever&nbsp;been.&nbsp;

Shirley LaRue Bailey

Ruth Louise Strawhacker, 73, of Burlington, died Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2022, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born Dec. 27, 1948, at her family home in rural Mediapolis, she was the daughter of Arthur R and Marjorie C Gillette Strawhacker.&nbsp;

She was a 1967 graduate of Mediapolis High School. Following high school, she attended the University of Iowa and NIACC.

Ruth worked as an in-home companion for many years.&nbsp;She enjoyed reading, flowers, and plants. She had a green thumb.

Survivors include her four brothers, Joe Strawhacker of Granbury, Texas, Tom Strawhacker of Iowa, Tim (Lisa) Strawhacker of New Prague, Minn., and Bob (Kathy) Strawhacker of Mediapolis; and one sister, Barb Blow of West Burlington.

She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, David Strawhacker, Bill Strawhacker, and Steve Strawhacker.

The Graveside Committal Service for &nbsp;Strawhacker will be 3 p.m. Saturday, April 29, 2023,&nbsp;at St. Mary's Cemetery in rural Kingston.

 </figure>Ruth Louise Strawhacker, 73, of Burlington, died Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2022, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.Born Dec. 27, 1948, at her family home in rural Mediapolis, she was the daughter of Arthur R and Marjorie C Gillette Strawhacker.&nbsp;She was a 1967 graduate of Mediapolis High School. Following high school, she attended the University of Iowa and NIACC.Ruth worked as an in-home companion for many years.&nbsp;She enjoyed reading, flowers, and plants. She had a green thumb.Survivors include her four brothers, Joe Strawhacker of Granbury, Texas, Tom Strawhacker of Iowa, Tim (Lisa) Strawhacker of New Prague, Minn., and Bob (Kathy) Strawhacker of Mediapolis; and one sister, Barb Blow of West Burlington.She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, David Strawhacker, Bill Strawhacker, and Steve Strawhacker.Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory.The Graveside Committal Service for &nbsp;Strawhacker will be 3 p.m. Saturday, April 29, 2023,&nbsp;at St. Mary's Cemetery in rural Kingston.

Edwin “Ed” Charles Krogmeier, 71, of Burlington, died Tuesday, May 3, 2023, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.

Born Feb. 11, 1952, in Burlington, he was the son of Albert and Darlene Hester Krogmeier.

Ed worked for C &amp; E Mattress Factory for over 30 years until its closure. He was of the Catholic faith.

Ed enjoyed playing pool and played for many area leagues. He loved watching sports and coached little league softball for a few years. He was a loving brother and uncle. His family was very important to him.

Survivors include his two sisters; Sharon (Terry) Wiley of West Burlington and Cindy (Wayne) Bowen of Burlington; brother Gary (Dale) Krogmeier of New London, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Georgia McCollum and two brothers, Danny Krogmeier and Eugene Krogmeier.

A family inurnment will be held on Monday, May 8 at Aspen Grove Cemetery. Cremation has been accorded and entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.

Valeria Marie Szewczyk , 52, of Burlington, died Saturday, April 29, 2023, at her home.&nbsp;

Born April 3, 1971, in Aledo, Ill., she was the daughter of Peggy Harmon. On May 4, 2013, she married Chad Szewczyk in Burlington.

She was a graduate of Aledo High School and attended Black Hawk College.

Valeria worked at Aledo Genesis Medical and then as an office manager for Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center.

She enjoyed singing and spending time with her grandchildren and fur babies.&nbsp;

Survivors include her husband; daughter, Megan (Brent) Shearer of New Boston, Ill., and their children, Alyvia, Dylan, Ayden, and Owen; son, Aaron (Jessica) Bigger of New Boston, Ill. and their child, Bentley; and daughter, Hannah Bigger of New Boston; sister, Teresa (Montie) Schell of New Boston; uncle Delmar Harmon; aunt Mary Brasmer and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother, two aunts, Donna and Marge, one uncle, Bob, and her mother-in-law, Shirley McDonald. &nbsp;&nbsp;

Susan K. Phillips, 80, of Burlington, died Friday, Nov. 11, 2022, at the Klein Center in West Burlington.

Born May 22, 1942, in Marshalltown, &nbsp;she was the daughter of Cecil Emerson and Bertha Hauder Biklen Orr. She attended Burlington Schools graduating from Burlington High School in 1960 and then went to the University of Iowa where she received her nursing certification and her business Bachelor's Degree.&nbsp; She was married to John David Killian in 1962, and they had their first son Marc David Killian in August of 1963.

The family then moved to Ann Arbor Michigan where she worked at Ypsilanti State Hospital as a psychiatric nurse.&nbsp; Susan and David had their second son Peter James in June of 1967.&nbsp; Susan and David separated amicable in 1971 and continued to coparent their two boys.&nbsp; She continued to work as a psychiatric nurse and supervisor until 1976 when she moved to Ojai California for a fresh start and to provide better education for Marc and Peter.

In California she began a career as a counselor and hypnotherapist helping people lose weight, stop smoking, and overcome traumatic past experiences.&nbsp; During this time, she was very dedicated to raising her two sons and helping people overcome their difficulties through her counseling.&nbsp; She worked as a therapist until 1988 when she moved back to Burlington briefly to help her aging parents relocate to an assisted living facility in Milwaukee Wisconsin where she continued to reside along with her sister Janet and her husband David Dahl.

Two years prior to moving to help her parents her oldest son Marc was killed in an automobile accident on October 16, 1986.&nbsp; She was of tremendous comfort to her youngest son, ex-husband David, and all of Marc’s many close friends during this time.&nbsp; She chose to view this tragic death as the unfolding of&nbsp;God’s plan and was an inspiration to her son, his father, and even to the driver who was at fault.&nbsp; She demonstrated absolute love, trust in God, and dedication for the well-being of her family during this time.&nbsp; She allowed the family to heal and make sense of this tremendous loss.

In Milwaukee she and one of her close friends opened a care facility for disabled elders and oversaw the care and management of this facility.&nbsp; They were almost immediately at full capacity and had a long waiting list given the outstanding care that was provided to the patients.&nbsp; She stepped away from the day-to-day management of this facility after 8 years and moved on to begin a new business in home rentals in Wisconsin.&nbsp; Unfortunately, this venture was not as successful given her kind and generous nature.&nbsp; She did not have the capacity to be a tough landlord when it required displacing people from their homes when they could not pay rent.&nbsp; She realized this and had the insight to step away from this business.

Over all these years she kept in touch and talked regularly to her clients from her old counseling practice because she genuinely cared for them.&nbsp; She did this free of charge and out of love and dedication to these people that she felt responsible for.

In 2016 she found a wonderful partner and kindred spirit in Bill Ell of Burlington. In 2017 Susan moved back to Burlington, Iowa where she spent her final years with her partner, Bill. In 2021 she went to the Klein Center in West Burlington, where she resided until her passing.&nbsp;

Susan attended Zion United Church of Christ. She enjoyed nature, gardening, flowers and reading. Susan would frequently like to collect leaves in the fall and also enjoyed collecting small realistic looking rabbits. She worked hard all her life to do what was right. Susan was always willing to look at the adversities in her life as openings for her own personal growth.

Survivors include her son, Peter (Jennifer) Killian of Eagle, Idaho; three grandchildren Roan, Cade and Niall; and her partner, Bill Ell of Burlington.

She was preceded in death by her son Marc, parents, brother, Jim Orr, and sister, Janet Dahl and her husband, David.

The celebration of life for Susan will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 20, 2023, at Zion United Church of Christ with Reverend Carolyn Blair officiating. A reception will follow the service at Zion United Church of Christ.

Darlene Alice Wolfe, 94, of Burlington, died Saturday, April 29, 2023, at Klein Center in West Burlington.

Born, Feb. 16, 1929, in Roland, she was the daughter of Morris “Tiny” and Hazel Rasmussen Hill. On June 4, 1948, Darlene was married to John Wolfe at First United Methodist Church Parsonage by Reverend John Poole. John died Dec. 16, 2011.

Darlene attended Roland Iowa grade school and graduated from Burlington High School.

Darlene worked at Sylvania Electric, IRC and as the postmaster of the Sperry post office until her retirement. She was a previous member of Sperry United Methodist Church and most recently a member of Grace United Methodist Church.

Darlene was a member of Moose Lodge #579. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and bird watching. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and she liked to listen to country western music.

She and John lived and farmed in Winfield and Sperry before moving to Burlington.

Survivors include two sons John (Terrie) Wolfe of Ames, and Gary Wolfe of Burlington; two daughters Sue Wolfe and Patty (James) Russell both of Burlington; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren with two adopted children on the way; three sisters Delores Lee of Phoenix, Ariz.; Janet Bowman and Carol Carns of Burlington; two brothers Bob Hill of Burlington and Morris Hill Jr. of Newton, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

The funeral for Darlene will be 10 a.m. Friday, May 5 at Lunning Chapel with Reverend Tamara Wirt officiating. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. The visitation will be 9 a.m. until the time of service on Friday.

Donald Dean Nafziger, 76, of Danville, Iowa died Thursday, April 27, 2023, from cancer, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington, Iowa. &nbsp; He was born on May 18, 1946, to Menno and Anna Rich Nafziger.

Don graduated from West Burlington High School in 1964. He served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War and was stationed in Taiwan and Okinawa as a firefighter. He earned the rank of Sgt. and was honorably discharged in 1969.&nbsp; On Aug. 26, 1972, he married Wanda Johnson in West Burlington. They were married for fifty years.&nbsp; Don was employed at Security Lab, worked in construction, Burlington Trailways and Centre States.&nbsp; Some of Don's favorite pastimes were fishing, deer hunting, bowling, yard selling, flea markets, garden­ing, and talking to people - he didn't know a stranger. Keegan Scott Miller, 7, of New London, died Thursday, April 27, 2023, at his home.

Born Oct. 4, 2015, in Mount Pleasant, he was the son of Bradley Michael Miller and Brittany Megan Hamann Noble. He was of the Christian faith.

Keegan was in the first grade at Clark Elementary School in New London. He loved to play Minecraft, watch Pokemon and Bluey. Keegan enjoyed music and really loved to sing. He even learned the planets of the solar system by singing. Keegan was very interested in the Solar System and Space.

Survivors include his mother and step-father Brittany and Jake Noble of New London; father Bradley M. Miller of Mediapolis; brother Rex Noble of New London; grandparents Sharon and Dennis Detrick of Mount Pleasant, Brenda and Steve Strothoff of Mediapolis, Dan Noble of New London and Coty Parker of Mount Pleasant; great grandmother Ann Edwards of Washington, Iowa. and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Keegan was preceded in death by his grandfather Bryan Miller and Aunt Jennifer Box.

Victor Rudolph Clegg Sr., 88, of Burlington, Iowa died April 26, 2023 in Kansas City, Mo.

Born Sept. 10, 1934 in Poplar Bluff, Mo., he was the son of Vernon Giles and Lillie Mae Rankin. Victor was raised by his step-father Curtis Clegg.

He attended Burlington High School, but received his diploma while serving in the U.S. Air Force. He enlisted in August of 1952 and was honorably discharged as Airman 1st Class in May of 1963. Following service to his country, he became a machine shop setup and repairman at JI Case Company.

He was a member of U.A.W Local 807 Union, V.F.W Post 10102 and Union Baptist Full Gospel Fellowship Church. Victor enjoyed life and family. He was an artist who expressed his talent in paintings, drawings and photography. In his later years he volunteered at a Senior Center where he was loved by all.

Survivors include his daughters, Helene Clegg of Clarksville Tenn., Yolanda Brown of Aubrey Texas, Brigitte (Jason)&nbsp;Thomas of Kansas City Mo., Davota Clegg of Detroit Mich., and Vernet Bright (Scott) Diehl of Burlington; sons, Victor Clegg Jr of Cedar Rapids and Louis (Vivan) Clegg of Phoenix Ariz.; 16 grandchildren; 18 (soon to be 19) great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Sandra Sands of Miami, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by both his parents, his sister and one son.

Visitation will be from noon until 7 p.m. with the family to receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 3, 2023 at Prugh Funeral Service, 3940 Division Street.

John Wayne Ibbotson, 80, of Burlington, died Thursday, April 27, 2023, at the Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington. Born January 15, 1943, in Burlington, he was the son of John Luther and Eunice Louisa Houseman Ibbotson. On May 1, 1965, he married Carolyn Ann Kuntz in Biggsville, Ill. They later divorced. He graduated in 1961 from Yarmouth High School. He was a U.S. Veteran and was in the U.S. Naval Reserves. John worked for the U.S. Gypsum Plant and Champion Company, retiring in 1987. He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #579.&nbsp; He enjoyed the river, going out on the boat, taking cruises, canoeing and was an avid fisherman. He liked to go dancing, sing karaoke and listen to country music. Survivors include his children John Paul Ibbotson of Colorado Springs, Co., Dianne Hayes of Morning Sun, Lynn (Paul) Humphreys of Winfield and Meredith (Benny) Lee of Mt. Pleasant; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Nola Wilson of Milton; and several nieces and nephews.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents, two grandchildren, two sisters Nina Vosecky and Nadine Ibbotson, brother-in-law, Jimmy Wilson and special friend, Marjorie Hampton. Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh Crematory. Eugene William Krogmeier, 77, of Danville, died Thursday, April 13, 2023, at his home.

Gene was born in Burlington on February 5, 1946, the son of Albert Joseph and Darlene Hester Krogmeier.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was a 1965 graduate of Burlington High School.&nbsp;&nbsp;On August 14, 1965, he married Nancy Sue Gray in Burlington and he was very proud that they had been married for 57 years.&nbsp;&nbsp;He had worked at the Danville Elevator for 35 years, through numerous owners, and also had been farming for 55 years.

Gene was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Burlington and a member of the Geode Houndsman Club.&nbsp;&nbsp;He enjoyed baling hay, coon and coyote hunting, his Danville morning coffee club, and most of all, his family.

Gene is survived by his wife of Danville; daughters, Julie (John) Robinson of Chicago, and Shelly (Chris) Mortensen of Dwight, Ill.; sons, Richard (Amy) Krogmeier of Burlington, Ryan (Ami) Krogmeier of Webster City; brothers, Gary (Dale) Krogmeier of New London, Ed Krogmeier of Burlington; sisters, Sharon (Terry) Wiley and Cindy (Wayne) Bowen, both of Burlington; grandchildren, Blake (Lindsey) Clark, Bryce (Jenna) Mortensen, Reece Mortensen, Gabe, Mason and Avery Krogmeier; many great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Georgia McCollum and brother Danny Krogmeier.
